Those Things I Fear Short Story
Those Things We Fear This'll be my and last entry before I head out So I'll try to make things short
and sweet. to start things off, it was June 14?..15? i don't exactly recall the date, but that doesn't
matter right now. It was nighttime and I was at my friend, steve's party, he's a country guy so we
were out in the river drinking beer and all that stuff. Anyways, I decided to get some solitude and go
to this bunker we used to go to when we were younger. We never knew the purpose of it,and it
seemed abandoned so we made it ours. The bunker was pretty simple, to go in, there was a hatch.
When you went down the ladder you would end up in this medium sized room, we would decorate
the walls with pictures and add old furniture that would...sorry, ... Show more content on

What I found there wasn't there when we first discovered it, I swear. What I found was an old VHS
tape. It was settled on top of the old TV we had there. The title of the VHS read "Those Things I
fear". At first I thought it was some horror movie one of my friends left there. But, I asked my
friends if they knew of the movie, and none of them had an idea. So I decided to watch it. At first it
started off with some static, when it cleared out, there was this room. it was the exact bunker my
friends and I would go too. The camera view was from the corner of the room, like a security
camera. It was dark but I could see the outlines of some furniture. I saw the hatch open letting the
sunlight seep in, and saw a boy slowly climb down the ladder. It was me. the rest of the video was
just me and my friends talking, and after a while, leaving. I took the VHS out of the player, studied
it and looked in the upper right corner of the room. There I found a security camera, I didn't
remember seeing it before, so I observed it for a while. When I got home I sat and thought for a
minute. I tried to fit all the pieces together, but It didn't make sense. Why would someone have a
recording of me and let me see

X Ambassadors: A Song Analysis Of Unsteady'
X Ambassadors is a band who originated from Ithaca, New York. X Ambassadors are a more recent
band that has only released one album, VHS. VHS consists of songs such as, "Renegades,"
"Unsteady," and "Unconsolable," and was released on June 30, 2015. The band consists of four
members, Casey Harris, Sam Harris, Noah Feldshuh, and Adam Levin. These four have been
together since the year 2009. The song, "Unsteady," really stood out to me. The song is a mix of pop
and alternative rock, and even incorporates versus with acapella. Unsteady is about a man who is
constantly making the same mistakes with his family, which eventually leads to a divorce. The song
is written to his family telling them to hold on and give him a chance to overcome

Video Games : The Decade Of Decadence
The 1980s were also known as the decade of decadence. Technology that had been introduced in the
1980s was not any different. Although most of the major technology began in the 1970s, the 1980s
improved on the technology and made it more affordable and available for mass consumer
consumption. The 1980s was truly the beginning of the personal electronic device revolution,
making everything from computers to music and video games more available for personal use.
Video games were around long before the 1980s. Programmers had been making video games for
arcades as far back as the early 1960s (Kent 65). The late 1970s, however, brought video games into
the home with gaming consoles. Nonetheless, these consoles remained quiet until a small ... Show

The system went on to sell out at almost all locations. The success of the NES System has been
attributed to its impressive graphics and the speed and game control that the Nintendo developers
had created. By 1991 more than 33 millions homes had an NES system (Kent 73). Nintendo lead the
way in the home gaming console industry paving the way for such companies as Sony and
Microsoft, which dominate the video game industry today. However, video games were not the only
technology that made the leap to personal use. Computer technology was well in the works before
the 1980s, yet, it was in the 1980s that the leap to home computing was made and thus launched the
careers of two of the most famous men in the computing industry, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft,
and Steve Jobs, of the Apple Corporation. However, it was IBM that won the race to producing the
first personal computer. IBM introduced the first personal computer PC in August of 1991 (History
of the PC). "The first PC was good but not spectacular (History of the PC). However, IBM used
many third party developers and companies, which helped, make the IBM the preferred PC. The
first PC ran off of Microsoft Dos operating system. This made the IBM easier to add features to, but
also made it easier for other companies to come up with their own versions of the PC. Microsoft was
not exclusive to IBM allowing room for competitors. Competition came from all different kinds of

The Roth v United States marked a setback for pornography, however pornography continued to
strive in various parts of the world. Things changed for the better in the Miller V California case
when the supreme court redefined the definition of obscenity. It led to less obscenity prosecutions all

advancements in the media aspect (VHS, DVD 's, and television), cell phones and the internet. But
the one I find that isn 't as recognized as most in my opinion would be DVD 's. DVD 's have
expanded so much since their release in 1996, they have become more detailed, high def, and
affordable compared to other technology costs. During this research I will try and help you learn the
history of the DVD, the knowledge of how DVD 's were created, and the different types of DVD 's
there are. When it comes to DVD 's how many of us actually no the process of them being made or
when they were actually produced? Not many, we know that they have been around for years and
have progressed in different types of DVD 's such as blu rays. But "in the early 90 's two high

Structural MRI Literature Review
Structural MRI Studies Finding Related to Delusions and Hallucinations (Table: 2)
Delusions and hallucinations appear in middle to later phases of AD, studies conducted in delusion
and hallucination are fewer than that in apathy, as the prevalence of these behaviors are unequal. In
this section of review we summarized the studies of delusion and hallucination in AD by means of
structural MRI, studies subjects, assessment used for delusion and hallucination and the main
finding. This will helps in understanding the AD patients brain changes and their association to
delusion and hallucination scales and severity.
Holroyd, S et al., 2000. Analyzed 3–D MRI data of seven AD patients for those with and without
visual hallucination, they found that AD patients with visual hallucinations had a significantly
smaller occipital/whole brain ratio than AD patients without visual hallucination. The authors
proposed that their findings suggest that visual hallucinations in AD patients may be associated with
neuropathology of the occipital lobe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Business Model : Symbolic Representation Of The Core...
Introduction A business model is a symbolic representation of the core services of an organization
that may be abstract or graphical/ textual encompassing the intricate architecture, co–operation and
designed financial arrangements for present and future. Thus, the business model encompasses the
value architecture, value proposition, value finance and value network of the organization. It
elucidates the organization's creation, delivery and capturing valuable services in terms of social,
economic, cultural and related fields. The process used to construct a business model is denoted as a
business strategy (Schumacher, 1999). A disruptive innovation is a concept of innovation that
encompasses and establishes a new market by disrupting the current trends in the market and their
existing value network (West, n.d.). It results in the replacement of the ruling market firms, alliances
and products by capture a niche and an untapped field in the market. Usually the untapped market
includes a segment of customers whose needs are either not addressed or overlooked. Capturing
these essentials, thus the concept defines a substantial societal influence. Despite a disruptive
innovation being revolutionary in nature, an innovation does not necessarily mean disruptive
always. In most cases, it has been seen that the light of disruptive innovation is usually brought by
the outsiders instead of the existing pioneers in the market. Basically, a process of disruptive
innovation takes a longer

Criminal Copyright And Intellectual Property Laws
Criminal copyright infringement can come in many forms. Anything that has been created by one's
mind can technically be considered intellectual property. While the initial idea itself is not
something that can be protected by copyright law, patents and actual plans from ideas can be. Many
copyright cases are of a civil nature. This occurs when a person or organization feels their
intellectual property has been used without their consent and want either compensation or for the
accused party to cease use of the material.
While civil cases aim to make the offended party whole criminal cases are intended to penalize
those who break the law. Throughout time criminal copyright legislation and penalties have
changed. This is partially due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There seems to be no solid explanation of why this is. The No Electronic Theft Act, Digital
Millennium Copyright Act, and Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement Act
of 1999 are all aimed at "decreasing the threshold for what counts as criminal infringement" and
"increasing penalties" for criminal copyright infringement (Masnick, 2012). Mike Masnick wrote his
article in 2012 and the last law listed was enacted in 2008. Since this time there have been even
more shifts in how copyrights are infringed upon.
International Copyright Law When it comes to international copyright law things can get quite
complicated. To put things in the simplest possible terms, there is no one set of laws that govern all
intellectual property disputes around the world. Different countries have different rules on
copyrights and there are also different rules and levels of enforcement. There is however some
common ground among countries in the realm of intellectual property. This common ground comes
in the form of treaties. These treaties between territories help with both the protection of intellectual
property and enforcement against those who infringe upon copyrights. Copyright.gov, the United
States governments official website for information on copyright law list two treaties as being
principal in governing international

Pros And Cons Of Natural Vanillin
In 2015, young friends of the earth Europe launched a campaign referred to as "Extreme Genetic
Engineering in your ice cream". It campaigned against "natural" vanillin produced through synthetic
biology or "extreme genetic engineering". An example is Evolva a Swedish company that produces
pure vanillin by fermenting sugars using genetically modified yeast (Diederik VH, 2015). Evolva
acknowledges that the public does not welcome the use of synthetic biology or GM products due to
little or no public awareness for such products, but there are other means of overcoming such
challenges. One example is when the company asked for permission to label synthetic biology
produced vanillin as "natural" since the product is produced through a natural fermentation process,
just like alcohol fermentation process. Although the permit was granted, and the products labelled as
natural in the market, there is still pressure from NGO's such as the young friends of the earth as
they campaign against such innovative products (Diederik VH, 2015). It is possible that if pressure
group campaigns are successful in persuading other companies in the supply chain that purchase the
raw materials for their products, production innovation could be affected. One example is when
young friends of the earth campaigned against synthetic vanillin to the extent that it demanded
assurance from major ice cream producers e.g. a European ice cream company Haagen Dasz
(Diederik VH, 2015). The company

Movie Review : Easy Rider
Section 1:
"Easy Rider" was a significant film because its success helped start a new Hollywood phase of
filmmaking in the early 1970s. Films like "Duel in The Sun", and "Red River" are what preceded
films like "Easy Rider". These films came into being and were financially successful because they
temporarily relieved the fears aroused by a recognition of social and political conflicts. While
studios suffered through a box–office slump from 1947 to 1968, the western proved to be a
consistently if modestly bankable genre.
In an era that seemed to emphasize conformity, the iconoclastic western hero proved to be a
seductive archetype. Along with a revival of the westerns came the emergence of a new genre
(auteur films), one targeted at an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The studios used the rating system less to regulate or censor the content of their films than to
differentiate among products to advertise their pictures better and target audiences more precisely.
1968 was also a pivotal year in American social and political history. It saw two political
assassinations (of the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and the presidential candidate Robert
F. Kennedy) and a dramatic turn for the worse for the us forces in the Vietnam war. To produce a
new American cinema that might reflect or capture this tumultuous era, the studios turned to a
coterie of young directors, later dubbed the movie brats.
The film easy rider made it clear just how important the youth audience would be to a Hollywood
recovery. Its free form style and evocative use of a rock and pop–music score provided a template
for future gestures in the younger generations direction, easy rider is very much an auteur picture, on
in which an auteur's eccentric style and form transformed a familiar genre (the road picture) into
something undeniably modern and idiosyncratic. Hopper fashioned a complex mix of the teen biker
picture, the French New Wave where he broke down narrative structure, toyed with genre, mixed
and matched styles and most important, captured the ambience of cool. The documentary style was
especially important to the films larger appeal as it enticed viewer to sympathize with its
counterculture heroes.

for profession growth and development, as well as opportunities to learn from peers. Specifically,
case studies are used within the systems as a useful problem–solving tool that enables clinical

The ICF is currently utilized in clinical practice, clinical research, and policy development. Thus, it's
used at the individual level, institutional level, and social level, such as:
– Assessment and treatment planning of an individual
– Collecting data regarding outcomes of a specific treatment or intervention
– Multidisciplinary communication
– Quality improvement
– Protocol development
– Educational and training purposed (i.e. case studies)
– Needs assessment at a societal level
– Environmental assessment for universal design
The ICF and the ICD–10 are intended to be complementary. The ICD–10 provides a diagnosis of
diseases, disorders, and other health conditions, whereas the ICF provides information on the
patient's functioning. Used together they create a broader picture of the patient and their experiences
with regards to health and function.

mage fusion based on fuzzy sets
The fuzzy logic approach is widely used in image process–ing. The fuzzy logic gives decision rules
and fusion motivation for image fusion [17]. the two inputs images are converted into membership
values based on a set of predefined MFs, where the degree of membership of each input pixel to a
fuzzy set is determined. Then, the fusion operators are applied to the fuzzified images. The fusion
results are then converted back into pixel values using defuzzification.

Betamax Innovation
With the standard innovation spillovers that innovation policy scholars are used to considering,
innovators benefit one another because each individual innovator is unable to reap the full rewards
from her innovations. This feature captures an important part of the innovation process, but not the
whole story. Another feature is path dependence in innovation, in which the innovation choices of
past innovators influence the types of innovation pursued by future innovators. Path dependence
spillovers do not necessarily directly benefit innovators. Rather, they redirect innovators toward the
types of technologies with the larger stock of knowledge by changing the relative profitability of
different types of technologies. Redirecting technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Under these circumstances, there are four dirtytech blocks and only one cleantech block, reflecting
the reality that dirtytech has a century head start on cleantech. As a result of this mismatch in
knowledge stocks, dirtytech produces electricity at a much lower cost than cleantech, even in the
presence of a carbon tax. Consider the incentives facing the profit–maximizing innovator. She
knows that she can immediately commercialize an innovation in dirtytech because it would reduce
the cost of the already–cheapest form of electricity–producing technology. Thus, she can profit in
the near term. In contrast, if she innovates in cleantech, there is no guarantee of profits, at least in
the near–term. A single innovation–i.e., a single innovation block–will not be enough for cleantech
to overtake dirtytech as the cheapest form of energy production in the short run. Instead, energy
producers will continue to rely on dirtytech–and the cleantech innovator will receive little for her
efforts. Faced with such incentives, then, the profit–maximizing innovator will likely invest in
dirtytech, thereby further increasing its profitability and entrenching its dominance. Of course, in a
more complex model, some innovators will have such brilliant cleantech innovations that they will
invest in cleantech even if the product would be far from commercialization, but the overall
tendency will

It’s Time to Demand More from Corporate America Essay
It's Time to Demand More from Corporate America
Michael Moore exposes corporate America's dark side in Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return
to Flint, and The Big One (Moore). These show that corporate America is committing a form of
domestic terrorism by dehumanizing and exploiting their workers then forcing them to the streets to
survive.
The actions by individuals such as Roger Smith and Phil Knight are perfect examples of capitalists
constantly oppressing the working class described by Karl Marx. By dehumanizing workers
business owners are able to push them to the streets by closing factories and remain a good public
image. Who cares if these degenerate people lose their jobs?
The first step in the terrorism plot is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doing manual labor and never getting recognition builds on a person after years causing a
dehumanizing effect on them. This is just the beginning of corporate terrorism leading into the later
stage.
After successfully breaking down the working class the CEO is able to close down factories and
move them to countries with lower worker standards to increase profit. This disregard of human life
pushes workers to the streets forcing them into poverty. What do these people have to look forward
to after losing their homes? They live in dirt, disease, and fear with many having to choose between
food and soap (Parker). Now the homeless stand stripped of integrity asking for help. Instead of help
they are viewed as criminals. Peter Marin details the thoughts of many people on homeless,
"Drinking, doping, loitering, panhandling, defecating, urinating, molesting, stealing..." (Marin).
Why are the homeless being ridiculed? Why not point at those putting these people on the street?

The VCR: The DVD Player of the Early 1980’s Essay
The VCR: The DVD Player of the Early 1980's
The rate at which technology advances, even by today's standards, continues to amaze and astonish
people. Even the simplest of daily tasks are influenced and molded by the increasingly original
inventions that continue to explode into the public's eye. One's everyday life is constantly updated,
reinvented, and (if you will) reprogrammed in order to adapt to the new ways of technology. Yet this
phenomenon is not unique to this decade alone. As modern and as fast–paced as things may seem
now, people in 1984 were going through very similar circumstances. The invention of the VCR was
quickly becoming an obviously important product, while advertisers, media executives, and the

"Rentals, driven by popular theatrical releases, accounted for 80% of the home video market...while
sales, also dominated by popular films, such as Paramount's 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' accounted for
the remaining 20%" (Broadcasting 43). With the increase in demand for VCR's, the price for
consumers has gone down significantly. While the average price of a VCR was $1,200 in 1978, it
dropped to around $500 in 1984. The necessary component of the VCR, the VHS cassette tape, was
priced anywhere between $60 and $80 ("VCR's" 43). The VCR was an obvious advance for the film
industry, but how would the world of cable and broadcasting react to such an invention? There arose
VCR enthusiasts, skeptics, and (as always) undecided as the VCR's growth become quite apparent.
Although the benefits of a VCR are apparent to today's society, the device had its opponents in
1984. Advertisers saw the VCR as a threat to their industry due to the capability of commercial
"zapping". Because programs were able to be recorded, commercials were capable of being edited
or deleted (zapped). While many advertisers saw the VCR as a hindrance, others saw it as a creative
challenge for the industry. According to Robert E. Buchanan, executive vice president, U.S. media
director, J. Walter Thompson USA, the solution was in the hands of the advertisers. Commercials

Vitreous Humor
As discussed before, vitreous humor (VH) is a transparent gel (Chirila and Hong, 1998) , rich in
hyaluronic acid and unbranched collagen Type II fibrils (Scott, 2003) which fills the posterior cavity
of the eye. The hyaluronan content in the vitreous humour is higher than the protein content and
plays an integral role in maintaining the internal tension (Kummer et al., 2007) of VH by a process
called Donnan swelling (Kleinberg et al., 2011). Several materials have been tested as substitutes for
VH, each of them serving either of the main purposes as described. The implants may either be used
to replace a dysfunctional VH when opacification or physical collapse of the original structure has
occurred or they may have a temporary or permanent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only mimicking the biofunctionality, they also respond to external physical stimulus and
environment really well. Some of the hydrogels that have been under consideration so far for
vitreous tissue engineering include PVA, PVP , PAP. PVP (Poly(1–vinyl–2–pyrrolidone)) (Hong et
al., 1998) is the first studied polymer for vitreous replacement. However, opacification of vitreous ,
inflammation due to the presence of vacuoles and granules(Swindle–Reilly et al., 2009) and
intraocular reactivity are the main issues that prevents its use alone for vitreous replacement. Many
other blends with this polymer are underway in research as the material has density and viscosity
similar to vitreous. PVA (Poly–vinyl–alcohol) has good optical and rheological properties making it
a suitable biomaterial for this application. Maruoka et al added trisodium–triphosphate as a cross–
linking agent to PVA. The addition of this molecule improved the material properties such as
rheological characteristics and diffusion behaviour when compared to PVA alone (Maruoka et al.,
2006) Another blend of the polymer Poly(vinyl alcohol methacrylate) (PVA–MA) has also laid its
ground in vitreal tissue engineering (Cavalieri et al., 2004). This polymer contains a photoinitiator
which forms a gel network after being irradiatied at 365 nm. The degree of gelification can be
regulated by polymer concentration and light intensity. PVA–MA

Virginia Horn Project Essay
1.0 Summary Historic data analysis, 3D models, interpretations of geophysical data, prospecting
results and a mineral potential map of the Virginia Horn (VH) project are presented. Comparison of
data from the VH to analog gold–hosting rocks in Canada suggest that future exploration should
focus on identifying Au–bearing veins in the Midway sequence, within 300 meters of the Pike River
fault (PRF). Specifically, exploration drilling should be conducted in the buried area north of the
Jola and Sopp excavation pit, where the PRF is inferred to have experienced compressional bending
and a silicified/arsenopyrite–rich metasediment (?) boulder has been discovered. A high–resolution
aeromagnetic (or electromagnetic) survey would enhance a geologic interpretation of the VH, but
may not be necessary as currently available data justify further exploration in the high–potential area
outlined in this report.
2.0 Introduction
The VH is located in northern MN, USA, approximately 60 miles north of Duluth and 3 miles
southeast of Virginia. It is named for the abrupt bend in the Proterozoic Biwabik iron formation and
subsequent horn–shape of exposed Archean bedrock. Rocks in the VH are part of the southern
exposed margin of the Neoarchean Wawa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the PFR is considered to be a 2nd order splay off the Fayal Fault (FF), most holes in the VH
were drilled outside the 300 meter buffer that is prospective for hosting significant gold deposits.
Although drill holes in the 2009 and 2010 campaigns did intercept significant Au mineralized zones
800+ meters from the PFR, currently available data suggest these mineralized zones are likely small
ore shoots that will not constitute a large (+1 Moz) and mineable

The Musical Essay
The Musical The classical period of the musical coincided with the heyday of the Hollywood studios
from the early thirties to the early fifties. The conventions of the integrated musical were formed in
the Astaire––Rogers musicals made at RKO in the thirties and the form peaked at MGM in the
forties and early fifties, most notably in films produced by Arthur Freed.
Thomas Schatz has provided a useful definition of the integrated musical. `Rather than create a
realistic ––or at least plausible ––world whose inhabitants find reasonable motives for breaking into
song (rehearsals, shows, etc.) the music itself seems to determine the attitudes, values and
demeanour of the principal characters. As the musical genre evolved it ... Show more content on

Each package is made up of either two or three VHS videocassettes and notes which contextualise
the packages within the genre and place them in relation to other musicals in the Film Study
Collection on film. The notes also provide specific suggestions for the use of extracts from the films
on videocassette.
Films on both VHS and 16mm are organised below into three sub–genres (fairytale, show and folk)
proposed by Rick Altman. Not all musicals fall neatly within boundaries of one of these sub–genres.
It's Always Fair Weather, for example, as a whole operates as an urban folk musical but the satire of
television in the last third of the film draws it towards the show musical. Although Altman locates
Ziegfield Follies in the fairytale sub–genre it seems marginally placed between the fairytale and
show musical. Ostensibly a tribute to the Follies it lacks any unifying narrative. Although the
introductory numbers ––`Bring on the Beautiful Girls' and `Bring on the Wonderful Men' ––display
sexual desire as a motive force, this is not consistently maintained through the series of musical
numbers and comedy sketches that follow. The Fairytale Musical
This sub–genreborrowed massively from a long (pre–cinema) tradition of European and American
operettas. Methods are a combination of those used by the fairytale and the romantic comedy. In the
early sound years (1929––1934) the sexual energy driving the plot is clearly

The major risks involved in this migration are discussed in the following. Governance: The vendor
requires a third party control over the chosen cloud provider during any issues, which affects the
data security. The local system administrator will have little control over the administration, leading
to slow recovery and longer downtime. Lock In: The service provider has certain constrains and
limits to the services they provide. So immediate modification and customizations to the system can
be complicated. Isolation Failure: Shared resources and multi tenancy is a feature in cloud
computing. Therefore, failure in quick access memory, storage issues or application latency between
users might be common if the system does not have the capacity to support all users.. Compliance
Risks: Each company maintains a different set of compliance levels. Therefore, if the entire system
is migrated to the cloud, and the company cannot audit the compliance level of the service provider,
it might be risky. Management Interface Compromise: Remote access and background processing
can put the users' credentials at risk.. Data Protection: This is by far the main risk involved. Most
service providers do not have a clear stand on how the data protection service is carried out. Most of
them outsource these services to third parties and unknown locations. It can be a risk if the user is
not clear on how the service provider carries this process. Malicious Insider: Hacking and

Movie Review : Easy Rider
Section 1: "Easy Rider" was a significant film because its success helped start a new Hollywood
phase of filmmaking in the early 1970s. Films like "Duel in The Sun", and "Red River" are what
preceded films like "Easy Rider". These films came into being and were financially successful
because they temporarily relieved the fears aroused by a recognition of social and political conflicts.
While studios suffered through a box–office slump from 1947 to 1968, the western proved to be a
consistently if modestly bankable genre. In an era that seemed to emphasize conformity, the
iconoclastic western hero proved to be a seductive archetype. Along with a revival of the westerns
came the emergence of a new genre (auteur films), one targeted at an audience demographic that the
studios coveted more than any other: The American teenager. And with the emergence of television
in order for films to compete with television, movies needed more than a new shape and new sound;
they needed to present material that could not be found on the small screen. 1968 was a pivotal year
in American history. The voluntary movie rating system that was introduced that year finally put to
rest the motion picture production code, which had hamstrung the filmmakers throughout the sound
era, and it completely changed the look and sound of American cinema, making possible more adult
themed films, films that explored in explicit detail formerly regulated subjects like sexuality and
criminality; films like easy

The video Game Console Wars Essay
MKTG6340 Contemporary Issues in International Marketing
Case Study: Now underway in your living room: The Video Game Console Wars
1. Compare and contrast Nintendo's marketing strategy for the Wii with Sony's strategy for PS3.
By the end of 2006, two game console industry giants, Nintendo and Sony had launched their
respective new products; the Wii and PS3. Various marketing strategies were implemented by both
rivals and this writing attempt to analyse common and differing elements.
Similarly, both companies had a product differentiation strategy, with the aim of being distinctly set
apart from their competitors by the viewing market. However, different elements of this strategy
were focused on by the firms. For instance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nintendo appears to have implemented a market–penetration pricing strategy. The Wii at a cost of
$250 is 50% less than the 20–gigabyte PS3 (smaller hard drive machine). At this lower price, it is
easier for the product to penetrate the market due to affordability in most segments. This aligns with
the assumed company's aim of maximising market share in the current and new segments. To
achieve this, Nintendo ensured that the Wii was less costly to manufacture. Moreover, a higher sales
volume may lead to lower unit costs and higher long run profits. Conversely, Sony is believed to
have a market–skimming pricing strategy. The company invested $2 billion in technology, so this
strategy aims at recovering the maximum amount of revenue to cover the high costs incurred in the
early stages of the product life cycle. Additionally, Sony has a strong brand due to the success of
their previous machines (PS2 and playstation) and the high price assists in communicating the image
of a superior product with quality.
2. What is the key to the Wii's popularity?
The key facet responsible for the Wii's popularity lies in the innovative design, which "calls to
action" the player with physical movement. The writer views the wireless motion sensitive game
console as a new, simple and fun method of gaming for all age groups. As a result, it may appeal not
only to the traditional expert video game player like the PS3, but other individuals outside that

A Pixel shift method allows for high resolution imaging, and by specifying the measurement point
on a high–resolution image, the measurement is taken at an increased accuracy. This along–side the
automatic edge detection function, reduces measurement discrepancies between users. Along with
the ability to make accurate measurements quickly, the VHX–6000 allows for clean and
contamination analysis in line with ISO–16232 Standards . The sample surface image is divided into
multiple regions and these regions are analysed individually, which allows for large areas to be
contamination analysed. If using a high–resolution microscope lens with a large depth of field,
highly precise measurements of samples can be taken down to 1m. This allows for calculations
such as porosity areas, volume fraction of defects etc. If a sample surface has height variations a
fully focused image can be obtained instantaneously by bringing together images taken over a range
of focal planes. This focal position data can then be used to produce a three–dimensional model. The
VHX–6000 can create a three–dimensional image, by using a depth from defocus method by
calculating height and analysing extremely small changes in texture. Even within areas of low
contrast or under and over saturated pixels can be accurately calculated unlike when imaged using
conventional microscope methods such

My Life
I woke up in a queen sized bed next to my four year old brother, completely lost as to where we
were. I looked around as i saw walls, half wood, half dry wall. There were clothes covering the
floor, along with many other receipts, plastic wrappers and many other pieces of garbage. The was a
dark oak dresser, on top sat an old 15" tv playing Ice Age. I was a little scared and confused but i
was overall distracted to the film playing on the old scratched up screen. My brother, james, was in a
deep sleep, drenched in his own sweat, so i decided i would try and explore. I slowly, trying not to

door, i realized that it had been locked from the outside. I was very confused. I thought i had done
something wrong, or my dad was mad at me for some other reason.i started to timidly knock and ask
if anybody was there, which quickly escalated into me screaming and kicking at the door. I knew
somebody was home because i could hear the dishes being washed. What felt like a lifetime later,
Lindsay answered the door with what was intended to be a reassuring smile but just ended up
looking fake. I woke my brother as we were let out, to find she had been the one washing the dishes
as my dad had been laying on the couch watching tv. He mumbled something to himself when he
saw us. He quickly then got up and said, let 's go! I was confused, where were we going? Why now?
Why did he allow me to stay in the room for so long if he was so close? Why was the door locked?
He then continued to say, more sternly this time, "get into the truck". We both moved promptly. We
pulled up to a Chuck E Cheese, or another alike facility. I ran into play. So excited i had completely

Reactions Of The Children Were Mixed For Both Videos
Reactions of the children were mixed for both videos. There seem too be a common theme of
disappointment during the beginning half of the videos. Some of the reactions in the old cameras
video were, "why things had to be so hard back then", " I hope there is a YouTube tutorial on this"
and " Who knew taking a picture was so much work". They were all speechless, banging their heads
and had big eyes. One girl admits that it is sad that the albums on our phones are named after the
physical albums people use to have with physical photos. The biggest shock cam when they were
told that they did not take any pictures and that after taking the picture you cant immediate see it
unless you went to the store to develop it. In the VCR video the first question had the kids all
confused, " What is this?" The kids responded with "DVD player" and " you put in tape and it will
play music right?" Some other unusual responses were, it's a CD player, alarm clock and even radio
was said. The questions in both videos were very similar because both videos started of by asking
the children what the item was and did they ever see it before. Then the questions asked were about
the functions of the device and how to make it work. As the interview progressed the questions
became more realistic and the child then realizes how the item connects to society today and how
different things work now. In contrast to the old camera video, in the VCR video the children made
more connections to certain devices

However, the tale is "a lot of crap", according to co–founder Marc Randolph1. The myth was
created to show the simplicity of Netflix's business model: order online and return whenever you're
done, no late fees. Their humble beginnings actually began when Randolph and Hastings, while
working at software company Pure Atria, were fascinated by direct mail marketing and saw the
internet as a channel to cut into the video rental business1. Because VHS tapes were too costly to
keep as inventory, they focused on a new technology: DVDs. When Randolph tells the creation
story, he argues that the real "aha" moment was when he and Hastings realized that they could mail
compact discs through the US Postal Service without damaging the discs1. They began serious work
on Netflix in the summer of 1997 after Pure Atria was sold. At the time, the video rental market was
dominated by Blockbuster and a handful of other players who were focused entirely on renting VHS
titles in brick and mortar stores.
While their business plan called for renting DVDs by mail, the success of the DVD player was a big
gamble in 1997. At the time the format was brand new but growing fast, with 400,000 machines sold
in the first six months of 19972. The technology faced an uphill battle to unseat the more ubiquitous
VHS player. Part of the reason for the technology's slow adoption was the price; most machines cost

Blu–ray vs. DVD: What Is the Difference? VHS and DVD were once the norm for watching
prerecorded movies on television. You could even record a program on these devices. Then, in the
late 1990 's came the arrival of high definition television (HDTV). This caused great excitement for
people who like to watch movies with better image details and in clearer resolution (Singh n.d.).
Soon, people wanted something similar to DVDs with HD quality picture and sound. Therefore, the
"Blu–ray Disc" was introduced. What is the difference between blu–ray disc (BD) and DVD? Here

supports BD–Live (Calonge 2009). It is similar to video on demand. Blu–ray discs are more durable
than DVDs. They are hard coated using a special technology. This means more protection from dirt,
dust, and scratches. DVDs scratch very easily. Current BD players are backward compatible. Once
you purchase a new blu–ray player, you can always play back your collection of DVD 's on the same
player. Unfortunately, you cannot play a BD on your current DVD player. Therefore, if your DVD
player has become redundant, there is still hope for your DVD collection. BD players also up
convert your DVD image to near 1920x1080p resolution. We have looked at the history of DVDs
and blu–ray discs. We have also looked at the storage capacity, interactivity, and playback resolution
of the two formats. It is expected that the demand for blu–ray, due to the rising popularity of the
format, will increase. By the manufacturers making their blu–ray players backward compatible you
can play your collection of DVDs on a blu–ray player. Whatever your preference is, sit back and
enjoy your movies.

the advent of new technology. In reality though there are many various degrees of susceptibility to
competitors within network effects. Take for example social media sites. The relative ease of
creating and deleting a social media page gives incentive for competition, because there are low
costs for use incurred by consumers. Going back to the utility equation, if costs decrease or
disappear then only a small fraction of consumers need to use the product for it to be successful.
Therefore, by introducing a superior product to market and convincing enough people to join, that
new site can effectively take over the market. This happened with MySpace in the early 2000s due
to competition from Facebook. Notably it did not happen to the VHS and the home video market,
even though they were technologically inferior. This is because the relatively larger sunk cost of
buying the equipment and videos greatly weighed on the utility received from that

Is Betamax A Success Or A Failure
The first failed campaign that drew my interest was Nike. I would say the failure of this ad
campaign started from the deployment stage with the company's marketing strategy. The ad brought
upon much controversy in suggesting violence and weakness of woman, ask questions of why it
would premiere during the 2000 Olympics. Furthermore, other viewers complain of the trauma their
children experienced. With an ad campaign such as this; mocking our most popular, cult horror
flicks...a company must really take the time and understand that this "theme" can be a little tricky.
Granted, in the past, Nike has been known for controversial ads; whereas not all have been failures.
There were other segments of this "Why Sport?" campaign that were not nearly ... Show more

This campaign is interesting to me, because I do not believe so much that the campaign was a
complete failure. What I believe is the failure lies within licensing issues. Furthermore, from Team
B Marketing online, the article mentions the past on–going competition with JVC's VHS. The article
goes into further detail to explain why Betamax failed to the VHS. The big issue, "JVC designed
VHS technology to license to any manufacturer that was interested, which included all major motion
picture companies at the time. Sony was the only manufacturer of Betamax for 10 years and did not
provide licensing to other companies," states Patrick from Team B Marketing. Sony has in the past
had a very strong brand and it has changed slightly over time. However, with mention to missteps in
executive marketing plans, the major misstep with Sony happened during the strategy stage of the ad
campaign. The company lack competitive advantage and definitely begs the question if Sony
completed all the necessary research and asked the right questions. The lesson that presents itself
here is: at the time you may be the stronger brand but it's not always going to be the equivalent to
the stronger marketing plan. Failure will

Those Things I Fear Short Story

  • 1. Those Things I Fear Short Story Those Things We Fear This'll be my and last entry before I head out So I'll try to make things short and sweet. to start things off, it was June 14?..15? i don't exactly recall the date, but that doesn't matter right now. It was nighttime and I was at my friend, steve's party, he's a country guy so we were out in the river drinking beer and all that stuff. Anyways, I decided to get some solitude and go to this bunker we used to go to when we were younger. We never knew the purpose of it,and it seemed abandoned so we made it ours. The bunker was pretty simple, to go in, there was a hatch. When you went down the ladder you would end up in this medium sized room, we would decorate the walls with pictures and add old furniture that would...sorry, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I found there wasn't there when we first discovered it, I swear. What I found was an old VHS tape. It was settled on top of the old TV we had there. The title of the VHS read "Those Things I fear". At first I thought it was some horror movie one of my friends left there. But, I asked my friends if they knew of the movie, and none of them had an idea. So I decided to watch it. At first it started off with some static, when it cleared out, there was this room. it was the exact bunker my friends and I would go too. The camera view was from the corner of the room, like a security camera. It was dark but I could see the outlines of some furniture. I saw the hatch open letting the sunlight seep in, and saw a boy slowly climb down the ladder. It was me. the rest of the video was just me and my friends talking, and after a while, leaving. I took the VHS out of the player, studied it and looked in the upper right corner of the room. There I found a security camera, I didn't remember seeing it before, so I observed it for a while. When I got home I sat and thought for a minute. I tried to fit all the pieces together, but It didn't make sense. Why would someone have a recording of me and let me see ... VHS consists of songs such as, "Renegades," "Unsteady," and "Unconsolable," and was released on June 30, 2015. The band consists of four members, Casey Harris, Sam Harris, Noah Feldshuh, and Adam Levin. These four have been together since the year 2009. The song, "Unsteady," really stood out to me. The song is a mix of pop and alternative rock, and even incorporates versus with acapella. Unsteady is about a man who is constantly making the same mistakes with his family, which eventually leads to a divorce. Although most of the major technology began in the 1970s, the 1980s improved on the technology and made it more affordable and available for mass consumer consumption. The 1980s was truly the beginning of the personal electronic device revolution, making everything from computers to music and video games more available for personal use. Video games were around long before the 1980s. Programmers had been making video games for arcades as far back as the early 1960s (Kent 65). The late 1970s, however, brought video games into the home with gaming consoles. Nonetheless, these consoles remained quiet until a small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The system went on to sell out at almost all locations. The success of the NES System has been attributed to its impressive graphics and the speed and game control that the Nintendo developers had created. By 1991 more than 33 millions homes had an NES system (Kent 73). Nintendo lead the way in the home gaming console industry paving the way for such companies as Sony and Microsoft, which dominate the video game industry today. However, video games were not the only technology that made the leap to personal use. Computer technology was well in the works before the 1980s, yet, it was in the 1980s that the leap to home computing was made and thus launched the careers of two of the most famous men in the computing industry, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, and Steve Jobs, of the Apple Corporation. However, it was IBM that won the race to producing the first personal computer. IBM introduced the first personal computer PC in August of 1991 (History of the PC). "The first PC was good but not spectacular (History of the PC). However, IBM used many third party developers and companies, which helped, make the IBM the preferred PC. The first PC ran off of Microsoft Dos operating system. This made the IBM easier to add features to, but also made it easier for other companies to come up with their own versions of the PC. Vhs, Dvd, And Television Composition II Jastaa Stubbs 12/09/16 DVD 's During the years we have seen so much progress with technology, we have seen advancements in the media aspect (VHS, DVD 's, and television), cell phones and the internet. But the one I find that isn 't as recognized as most in my opinion would be DVD 's. DVD 's have expanded so much since their release in 1996, they have become more detailed, high def, and affordable compared to other technology costs. During this research I will try and help you learn the history of the DVD, the knowledge of how DVD 's were created, and the different types of DVD 's there are. When it comes to DVD 's how many of us actually no the process of them being made or when they were actually produced? Structural MRI Literature Review Structural MRI Studies Finding Related to Delusions and Hallucinations (Table: 2) Delusions and hallucinations appear in middle to later phases of AD, studies conducted in delusion and hallucination are fewer than that in apathy, as the prevalence of these behaviors are unequal. In this section of review we summarized the studies of delusion and hallucination in AD by means of structural MRI, studies subjects, assessment used for delusion and hallucination and the main finding. This will helps in understanding the AD patients brain changes and their association to delusion and hallucination scales and severity. Holroyd, S et al., 2000. Introduction A business model is a symbolic representation of the core services of an organization that may be abstract or graphical/ textual encompassing the intricate architecture, co–operation and designed financial arrangements for present and future. Thus, the business model encompasses the value architecture, value proposition, value finance and value network of the organization. It elucidates the organization's creation, delivery and capturing valuable services in terms of social, economic, cultural and related fields. The process used to construct a business model is denoted as a business strategy (Schumacher, 1999). A disruptive innovation is a concept of innovation that encompasses and establishes a new market by disrupting the current trends in the market and their existing value network (West, n.d.). It results in the replacement of the ruling market firms, alliances and products by capture a niche and an untapped field in the market. Usually the untapped market includes a segment of customers whose needs are either not addressed or overlooked. Capturing these essentials, thus the concept defines a substantial societal influence. Anything that has been created by one's mind can technically be considered intellectual property. While the initial idea itself is not something that can be protected by copyright law, patents and actual plans from ideas can be. Many copyright cases are of a civil nature. This occurs when a person or organization feels their intellectual property has been used without their consent and want either compensation or for the accused party to cease use of the material. While civil cases aim to make the offended party whole criminal cases are intended to penalize those who break the law. Throughout time criminal copyright legislation and penalties have changed. This is partially due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There seems to be no solid explanation of why this is. The No Electronic Theft Act, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement Act of 1999 are all aimed at "decreasing the threshold for what counts as criminal infringement" and "increasing penalties" for criminal copyright infringement (Masnick, 2012). Mike Masnick wrote his article in 2012 and the last law listed was enacted in 2008. Since this time there have been even more shifts in how copyrights are infringed upon. International Copyright Law When it comes to international copyright law things can get quite complicated. To put things in the simplest possible terms, there is no one set of laws that govern all intellectual property disputes around the world. Different countries have different rules on copyrights and there are also different rules and levels of enforcement. There is however some common ground among countries in the realm of intellectual property. This common ground comes in the form of treaties. These treaties between territories help with both the protection of intellectual property and enforcement against those who infringe upon copyrights. • 19. Pros And Cons Of Natural Vanillin In 2015, young friends of the earth Europe launched a campaign referred to as "Extreme Genetic Engineering in your ice cream". It campaigned against "natural" vanillin produced through synthetic biology or "extreme genetic engineering". An example is Evolva a Swedish company that produces pure vanillin by fermenting sugars using genetically modified yeast (Diederik VH, 2015). Evolva acknowledges that the public does not welcome the use of synthetic biology or GM products due to little or no public awareness for such products, but there are other means of overcoming such challenges. One example is when the company asked for permission to label synthetic biology produced vanillin as "natural" since the product is produced through a natural fermentation process, just like alcohol fermentation process. Although the permit was granted, and the products labelled as natural in the market, there is still pressure from NGO's such as the young friends of the earth as they campaign against such innovative products (Diederik VH, 2015). It is possible that if pressure group campaigns are successful in persuading other companies in the supply chain that purchase the raw materials for their products, production innovation could be affected. One example is when young friends of the earth campaigned against synthetic vanillin to the extent that it demanded assurance from major ice cream producers e.g. a European ice cream company Haagen Dasz (Diederik VH, 2015). Films like "Duel in The Sun", and "Red River" are what preceded films like "Easy Rider". These films came into being and were financially successful because they temporarily relieved the fears aroused by a recognition of social and political conflicts. While studios suffered through a box–office slump from 1947 to 1968, the western proved to be a consistently if modestly bankable genre. In an era that seemed to emphasize conformity, the iconoclastic western hero proved to be a seductive archetype. The studios used the rating system less to regulate or censor the content of their films than to differentiate among products to advertise their pictures better and target audiences more precisely. 1968 was also a pivotal year in American social and political history. It saw two political assassinations (of the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and the presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy) and a dramatic turn for the worse for the us forces in the Vietnam war. To produce a new American cinema that might reflect or capture this tumultuous era, the studios turned to a coterie of young directors, later dubbed the movie brats. The film easy rider made it clear just how important the youth audience would be to a Hollywood recovery. Its free form style and evocative use of a rock and pop–music score provided a template for future gestures in the younger generations direction, easy rider is very much an auteur picture, on in which an auteur's eccentric style and form transformed a familiar genre (the road picture) into something undeniably modern and idiosyncratic. Hopper fashioned a complex mix of the teen biker picture, the French New Wave where he broke down narrative structure, toyed with genre, mixed and matched styles and most important, captured the ambience of cool. The fuzzy logic gives decision rules and fusion motivation for image fusion [17]. the two inputs images are converted into membership values based on a set of predefined MFs, where the degree of membership of each input pixel to a fuzzy set is determined. Then, the fusion operators are applied to the fuzzified images. The fusion results are then converted back into pixel values using defuzzification. 1) Fuzzy sets: The fuzzy sets are used to describe the gray levels of the input images. we have two inputs and one output. the two inputs are ; the first input is the Pan image and the second input is the first principal component( PC 1 ) of the MS ... This feature captures an important part of the innovation process, but not the whole story. Another feature is path dependence in innovation, in which the innovation choices of past innovators influence the types of innovation pursued by future innovators. Path dependence spillovers do not necessarily directly benefit innovators. Rather, they redirect innovators toward the types of technologies with the larger stock of knowledge by changing the relative profitability of different types of technologies. Under these circumstances, there are four dirtytech blocks and only one cleantech block, reflecting the reality that dirtytech has a century head start on cleantech. As a result of this mismatch in knowledge stocks, dirtytech produces electricity at a much lower cost than cleantech, even in the presence of a carbon tax. Consider the incentives facing the profit–maximizing innovator. She knows that she can immediately commercialize an innovation in dirtytech because it would reduce the cost of the already–cheapest form of electricity–producing technology. Thus, she can profit in the near term. In contrast, if she innovates in cleantech, there is no guarantee of profits, at least in the near–term. A single innovation–i.e., a single innovation block–will not be enough for cleantech to overtake dirtytech as the cheapest form of energy production in the short run. Instead, energy producers will continue to rely on dirtytech–and the cleantech innovator will receive little for her efforts. Faced with such incentives, then, the profit–maximizing innovator will likely invest in dirtytech, thereby further increasing its profitability and entrenching its dominance. Of course, in a more complex model, some innovators will have such brilliant cleantech innovations that they will invest in cleantech even if the product would be far from commercialization, but the overall tendency will ... These show that corporate America is committing a form of domestic terrorism by dehumanizing and exploiting their workers then forcing them to the streets to survive. The actions by individuals such as Roger Smith and Phil Knight are perfect examples of capitalists constantly oppressing the working class described by Karl Marx. This disregard of human life pushes workers to the streets forcing them into poverty. What do these people have to look forward to after losing their homes? Even the simplest of daily tasks are influenced and molded by the increasingly original inventions that continue to explode into the public's eye. One's everyday life is constantly updated, reinvented, and (if you will) reprogrammed in order to adapt to the new ways of technology. Yet this phenomenon is not unique to this decade alone. As modern and as fast–paced as things may seem now, people in 1984 were going through very similar circumstances. "Rentals, driven by popular theatrical releases, accounted for 80% of the home video market...while sales, also dominated by popular films, such as Paramount's 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' accounted for the remaining 20%" (Broadcasting 43). With the increase in demand for VCR's, the price for consumers has gone down significantly. While the average price of a VCR was $1,200 in 1978, it dropped to around $500 in 1984. The necessary component of the VCR, the VHS cassette tape, was priced anywhere between $60 and $80 ("VCR's" 43). The VCR was an obvious advance for the film industry, but how would the world of cable and broadcasting react to such an invention? There arose VCR enthusiasts, skeptics, and (as always) undecided as the VCR's growth become quite apparent. Although the benefits of a VCR are apparent to today's society, the device had its opponents in 1984. Advertisers saw the VCR as a threat to their industry due to the capability of commercial "zapping". Because programs were able to be recorded, commercials were capable of being edited or deleted (zapped). While many advertisers saw the VCR as a hindrance, others saw it as a creative challenge for the industry. According to Robert E. Buchanan, executive vice president, U.S. media director, J. The hyaluronan content in the vitreous humour is higher than the protein content and plays an integral role in maintaining the internal tension (Kummer et al., 2007) of VH by a process called Donnan swelling (Kleinberg et al., 2011). However, opacification of vitreous , inflammation due to the presence of vacuoles and granules(Swindle–Reilly et al., 2009) and intraocular reactivity are the main issues that prevents its use alone for vitreous replacement. Many other blends with this polymer are underway in research as the material has density and viscosity similar to vitreous. PVA (Poly–vinyl–alcohol) has good optical and rheological properties making it a suitable biomaterial for this application. Maruoka et al added trisodium–triphosphate as a cross– linking agent to PVA. The addition of this molecule improved the material properties such as rheological characteristics and diffusion behaviour when compared to PVA alone (Maruoka et al., 2006) Another blend of the polymer Poly(vinyl alcohol methacrylate) (PVA–MA) has also laid its ground in vitreal tissue engineering (Cavalieri et al., 2004). Comparison of data from the VH to analog gold–hosting rocks in Canada suggest that future exploration should focus on identifying Au–bearing veins in the Midway sequence, within 300 meters of the Pike River fault (PRF). Specifically, exploration drilling should be conducted in the buried area north of the Jola and Sopp excavation pit, where the PRF is inferred to have experienced compressional bending and a silicified/arsenopyrite–rich metasediment (?) boulder has been discovered. The conventions of the integrated musical were formed in the Astaire––Rogers musicals made at RKO in the thirties and the form peaked at MGM in the forties and early fifties, most notably in films produced by Arthur Freed. Thomas Schatz has provided a useful definition of the integrated musical. `Rather than create a realistic ––or at least plausible ––world whose inhabitants find reasonable motives for breaking into song (rehearsals, shows, etc.) the music itself seems to determine the attitudes, values and demeanour of the principal characters. Films on both VHS and 16mm are organised below into three sub–genres (fairytale, show and folk) proposed by Rick Altman. Not all musicals fall neatly within boundaries of one of these sub–genres. It's Always Fair Weather, for example, as a whole operates as an urban folk musical but the satire of television in the last third of the film draws it towards the show musical. Although Altman locates Ziegfield Follies in the fairytale sub–genre it seems marginally placed between the fairytale and show musical. Ostensibly a tribute to the Follies it lacks any unifying narrative. Although the introductory numbers ––`Bring on the Beautiful Girls' and `Bring on the Wonderful Men' ––display sexual desire as a motive force, this is not consistently maintained through the series of musical numbers and comedy sketches that follow. The Fairytale Musical This sub–genreborrowed massively from a long (pre–cinema) tradition of European and American operettas. Methods are a combination of those used by the fairytale and the romantic comedy. In the early sound years (1929––1934) the sexual energy driving the plot is clearly ... Along with a revival of the westerns came the emergence of a new genre (auteur films), one targeted at an audience demographic that the studios coveted more than any other: The American teenager. And with the emergence of television in order for films to compete with television, movies needed more than a new shape and new sound; they needed to present material that could not be found on the small screen. 1968 was a pivotal year in American history. The voluntary movie rating system that was introduced that year finally put to rest the motion picture production code, which had hamstrung the filmmakers throughout the sound era, and it completely changed the look and sound of American cinema, making possible more adult themed films, films that explored in explicit detail formerly regulated subjects like sexuality and criminality; films like easy ... Nintendo appears to have implemented a market–penetration pricing strategy. The Wii at a cost of $250 is 50% less than the 20–gigabyte PS3 (smaller hard drive machine). At this lower price, it is easier for the product to penetrate the market due to affordability in most segments. This aligns with the assumed company's aim of maximising market share in the current and new segments. To achieve this, Nintendo ensured that the Wii was less costly to manufacture. Moreover, a higher sales volume may lead to lower unit costs and higher long run profits. Conversely, Sony is believed to have a market–skimming pricing strategy. The company invested $2 billion in technology, so this strategy aims at recovering the maximum amount of revenue to cover the high costs incurred in the early stages of the product life cycle. Additionally, Sony has a strong brand due to the success of their previous machines (PS2 and playstation) and the high price assists in communicating the image of a superior product with quality. 2. The bright red "N" bookmarked on your favorite web browser. You probably have sunk into old episodes of your favorite TV shows. Netflix serves as the model for delivering legitimate video content to the consumer for a reasonable price. Two men from Silicon Valley had an idea in a time where few people knew the existence of DVDs, and slowly rose to power into today's multi–billion dollar empire. The road to success was far from perfect, as many business decisions caused controversy. From small beginnings Netflix challenged industry powerhouses like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. Now, Netflix contests the control of network television while working in conjunction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the tale is "a lot of crap", according to co–founder Marc Randolph1. The myth was created to show the simplicity of Netflix's business model: order online and return whenever you're done, no late fees. Their humble beginnings actually began when Randolph and Hastings, while working at software company Pure Atria, were fascinated by direct mail marketing and saw the internet as a channel to cut into the video rental business1. Because VHS tapes were too costly to keep as inventory, they focused on a new technology: DVDs. When Randolph tells the creation story, he argues that the real "aha" moment was when he and Hastings realized that they could mail compact discs through the US Postal Service without damaging the discs1. They began serious work on Netflix in the summer of 1997 after Pure Atria was sold. At the time, the video rental market was dominated by Blockbuster and a handful of other players who were focused entirely on renting VHS titles in brick and mortar stores. While their business plan called for renting DVDs by mail, the success of the DVD player was a big gamble in 1997. At the time the format was brand new but growing fast, with 400,000 machines sold in the first six months of 19972. The technology faced an uphill battle to unseat the more ubiquitous VHS player. Part of the reason for the technology's slow adoption was the price; most machines cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

VHS and DVD were once the norm for watching prerecorded movies on television. You could even record a program on these devices. Then, in the late 1990 's came the arrival of high definition television (HDTV). This caused great excitement for people who like to watch movies with better image details and in clearer resolution (Singh n.d.). Soon, people wanted something similar to DVDs with HD quality picture and sound. Therefore, the "Blu–ray Disc" was introduced. What is the difference between blu–ray disc (BD) and DVD? Some blu–ray players are internet enabled so you can access the internet for additional blu–ray disc features. This feature is called BD–Live. It is a digital pay–per–view video delivery service that, through novel use of Java software, lets users rent movies via any blu–ray player, provided it supports BD–Live (Calonge 2009). It is similar to video on demand. Blu–ray discs are more durable than DVDs. They are hard coated using a special technology. This means more protection from dirt, dust, and scratches. DVDs scratch very easily. Current BD players are backward compatible. Once you purchase a new blu–ray player, you can always play back your collection of DVD 's on the same player. Unfortunately, you cannot play a BD on your current DVD player. Therefore, if your DVD player has become redundant, there is still hope for your DVD collection. BD players also up convert your DVD image to near 1920x1080p resolution. We have looked at the history of DVDs and blu–ray discs. • 76. Betamax Essay 3. Network effects can be a major consequence of an emerging product space. Often times, they occur when an individual derives part of their own utility from the fraction of other people using the product as well. These effects though understated in the public, can be absolutely pivotal for a market and can set path dependencies that last for years. The commonly referred to instance of network effects is VHS vs. Betamax. In this case, a competition existed in the 1980s between two different video platforms that were looking to dominate the home video market. The technologically inferior VHS eventually grabbed enough of the market to give it the edge in the competition, which netted them the entire home video market. Betamax eventually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By doing so, it allows the software to exist in a sort of insulation from others, and makes winning the market crucial for future revenue. Going back to VHS vs. Betamax, that market was very robust in the sense that only one competitor could exist and it did not change until 20 years later through the advent of new technology. In reality though there are many various degrees of susceptibility to competitors within network effects. Take for example social media sites. The relative ease of creating and deleting a social media page gives incentive for competition, because there are low costs for use incurred by consumers. Going back to the utility equation, if costs decrease or disappear then only a small fraction of consumers need to use the product for it to be successful. Therefore, by introducing a superior product to market and convincing enough people to join, that new site can effectively take over the market. This happened with MySpace in the early 2000s due to competition from Facebook. Notably it did not happen to the VHS and the home video market, even though they were technologically inferior. This is because the relatively larger sunk cost of buying the equipment and videos greatly weighed on the utility received from that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 80. Is Betamax A Success Or A Failure The first failed campaign that drew my interest was Nike. I would say the failure of this ad campaign started from the deployment stage with the company's marketing strategy. The ad brought upon much controversy in suggesting violence and weakness of woman, ask questions of why it would premiere during the 2000 Olympics. Furthermore, other viewers complain of the trauma their children experienced. With an ad campaign such as this; mocking our most popular, cult horror flicks...a company must really take the time and understand that this "theme" can be a little tricky. Granted, in the past, Nike has been known for controversial ads; whereas not all have been failures. There were other segments of this "Why Sport?" campaign that were not nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This campaign is interesting to me, because I do not believe so much that the campaign was a complete failure. What I believe is the failure lies within licensing issues. Furthermore, from Team B Marketing online, the article mentions the past on–going competition with JVC's VHS. The article goes into further detail to explain why Betamax failed to the VHS. The big issue, "JVC designed VHS technology to license to any manufacturer that was interested, which included all major motion picture companies at the time. Sony was the only manufacturer of Betamax for 10 years and did not provide licensing to other companies," states Patrick from Team B Marketing. Sony has in the past had a very strong brand and it has changed slightly over time. However, with mention to missteps in executive marketing plans, the major misstep with Sony happened during the strategy stage of the ad campaign. The company lack competitive advantage and definitely begs the question if Sony completed all the necessary research and asked the right questions. The lesson that presents itself here is: at the time you may be the stronger brand but it's not always going to be the equivalent to the stronger marketing plan. Failure will ...
