Activity 1: KWL Chart
K - What do we know?
In your table groups, share your knowledge about
student-led conferences and write it in the K
column

W - What do you want to know?
Now write down under W anything you still wonder
or would like to know.
IB student led conferences
• Student led conferences involve the student and
the parent.

• The student demonstrates their understanding
through a variety of different learning situations.

• The students are responsible for leading the
conference, sharing the process of their learning
with their parents.

• It enables parents to gain a clear insight into the
kind of work their child is doing and offers an
opportunity for them to discuss it with their child.

Activity 2:
Agree/disagree/unsure
• As a table, read through the statements in the
plastic wallet.

• Decide whether you agree with them, disagree
with them or are unsure and place them under
that heading.

• Gallery walk – look for any differences with
your group

• Discussion
Roles
Student - will lead the conference in
their preferred language. They will have
prepared an agenda or map to guide
them and have selected some samples of
their work and/or activities to share.
Parent(s) – listen, ask questions, give positive
feedback.
Teacher – facilitate the conference
Activity 3: Role play
• Watch the short role play and as you do, try to
identify 5 things that are preventing the SLC
being a successful event

• Our roles: student – Kim, teacher – Ruth,
parent – Annabel, other parent – Memory

• Discussion
What does the SLC look like?
• 3 or 4 students and their parent(s) in the room at
the same time
• Each student will lead their own conference

• ELC – student plan and activities
• Y1 – 6 Class and single subject rooms to be
visited

Student-Led Conference Essentials

  • 4. Activity 1: KWL Chart K - What do we know? In your table groups, share your knowledge about student-led conferences and write it in the K column W - What do you want to know? Now write down under W anything you still wonder or would like to know.
  • 5. IB student led conferences • Student led conferences involve the student and the parent. • The student demonstrates their understanding through a variety of different learning situations. • The students are responsible for leading the conference, sharing the process of their learning with their parents. • It enables parents to gain a clear insight into the kind of work their child is doing and offers an opportunity for them to discuss it with their child.   • 6. Activity 2: Agree/disagree/unsure • As a table, read through the statements in the plastic wallet. • Decide whether you agree with them, disagree with them or are unsure and place them under that heading. • Gallery walk – look for any differences with your group • Discussion
  • 7. Roles Student - will lead the conference in their preferred language. They will have prepared an agenda or map to guide them and have selected some samples of their work and/or activities to share. Parent(s) – listen, ask questions, give positive feedback. Teacher – facilitate the conference
  • 8. Activity 3: Role play • Watch the short role play and as you do, try to identify 5 things that are preventing the SLC being a successful event • Our roles: student – Kim, teacher – Ruth, parent – Annabel, other parent – Memory • Discussion
  • 9. What does the SLC look like? • 3 or 4 students and their parent(s) in the room at the same time • Each student will lead their own conference • ELC – student plan and activities • Y1 – 6 Class and single subject rooms to be visited
