2. I am going to present my pitch to a small group of
people. The majority of this group will be girls aged
16-19, because this is my target audience. Following
my pitch l will ask them questions regarding my
pitch (5 questions). The answers given will influence
my choices on magazine design.
3. My Questions
1. What name would best represent a pop magazine?
The front
Treasure
Logic
Bijoux
Bizzar
Your Fix
4. Question 1
Katie “I think that you should go with Logic,
compared to the other names it shows more of a pop
magazine feel to it and something a pop magazine
would typically be called”
Mollie “For me, l like the name Your Fix. I just think
that appeals to me most and l would pick up that
magazine expecting it to be a pop music magazine”
Gina “I agree with Katie. Logic just sounds like the
most representative name for the pop genre. I think
it would pair up with the rest of your ideas quite well
and set the basis for a good pop music magazine.
5. a
Faye “I think that the name you should go for is Logic.
It just sounds like the typical pop magazine name
and the others don’t really relate to music. It’s also
unique-I haven’t seen a magazine name like that
anywhere else on the market.”
Kayleigh “I a on the same side as Gina, l think your fix
is more of a magazine name compared with the
others. It also gives more of what the magazine could
be about compared with the other names.”
7. Question 2
Katie “I like pop music and magazines so for me to be
interested in it it’d have to include the latest music trends
and bands/artists. As well as having gossip of whats
going on in the music industry because I’m not always
aware of whos dating who etc. and that’s what interests
me most after music itself.”
Mollie “The content that would most satisfy your audience l
think would be interviews about the newest bands and
artists as well as the latest music trends. Oh and the
charts, for the people who don’t have time to tune into
the music channels all the time.”
8. Gina “Apart from the articles and gossip l think that
there should be visual aspects to it as well, so that it
appeals to the younger band of your genre as well as
the older ones. So include free posters and
accompany the articles and interviews with decent
photography to keep the readers interest there.”
Faye “I love competitions in magazines. So make sure
you include competitions to win tickets to tours and
a chance to meet the popstars. This will appeal to
your audience more and be a insentive to buy the
magazine.”
9. Kayleigh “I think the actual content in the interviews
should be questions to the stars about and to find out
secret information about them. Because then your
magazine would get a good reputation for finding out
never before heard information which could raise
popularity for your magazine. Also because in your
pitch you said it was targeted at girls the content of
the whole magazine could contain boys and fashion
as well as music. So the magazine becomes more
then just a music magazine.”
11. Question 3
Katie “I agree with your mode of address. Chatty and
informal fits perfectly with the age your targeting your
audience at. Its more mature then ‘we love pop’ but less
informal as ‘Billbaord’. So your readers can understand
and follow the magazine content without getting
confused or lose interest.”
Gina “I think that your magazine should be informal and
chatty but try not to make it to chatty, else that will make
your magazine look childish and won’t represent your
original target audience. So be careful of your language
choices, try to avoid using slang but also avoid complex
vocabulary.”
12. Mollie “I agree with Gee and Katie. Its the correct
mode of address choice but be wary of using it
incorrectly else you’ll end up loosing interest in your
magazine.”
Faye “I agree with a chatty mode of address, this can
really make the reader feel involved with the
magazine. So keep with the chatty concept of it but
don’t dull down the vocabulary because you’re
aiming it at college/uni students and they’re not
stupid so you don’t have to be to concerned about
keeping your lexis simplistic. “
Kayleigh “Everyone else has taken my points. I agree
with your mode of address.”
14. Question 4
Katie “I think your house styles should consist of
feminine colours. They should also be quite bright
because that represents the pop genre.”
Gina “I think that you should use colours like pink and
blue because that really draws your eye in and you
can use multiple colours to make it interesting to
read and to make certain words stand out.”
Mollie “I think that you should go with feminine
colours but keep them consistent throughout the
whole magazine so use about 4-5 throughout.”
15. Faye “I think as well as sticking to a feminine colour
scheme you should also add in vibrant youthful
colours to reassure your audience that your
magazine is fun & exciting.”
Kayleigh “I think that a vibrant colour palette would be
better because that would give readers enthusiasm
and excitement about the magazine.”
17. Question 5
Katie “I think that the photos you should have should
be a combination of close up shots of a models face
and some full body ones so you can say what their
wearing and where you can get a compromise for
that outfit. Also the models should have eye contact
with the camera so that the audience feel more
involved in that image and can get more direct
understanding of their body language.”
18. Gina “I think that the shot on the front cover should be
a close up one because then the reader can easily
identify who it is. I also think that the models should
have minimal make up because then the readers
don’t feel intimidated by the put on apperance by
them. So the images should also be natural and
recognisable instead of edited and fake.”
19. Mollie “For it to appeal to girls i think you need a mixture
of male and female models so that they can be used as
inspiration as well as be their ‘crush’ .
Faye “I think that you should include inanimate objects as
well as people. Such as make up and clothes to make it
look like a professional music magazine.”
Kayleigh “The images you use should contain happy
motivated looking people to represent your target
audience. So they can see that if you work hard then you
will strive to succeed. This compliments your audience
and will lead to repeat purchase of your magazine.”
