3. The RoSA
In February 2012 the Education Minister announced that the
Record of Student Achievement (RoSA), would replace the Year
10 School Certificate. The RoSA is:
• A record of the full range of student achievements right up to the
day they do their HSC or leave school
• Only be issued to students when they leave school prior to
completing the HSC.
• An electronic record of achievements that students can access
(and print off) anytime after successfully finishing Year 10
through the NESA website and logging into Students Online.
4. The RoSA will:
• Use assessment by teachers in schools (no external exam in
Year 10)
• Report results of school-based assessment against NESA’s
grade performance descriptors A-E
• Involve students being awarded a grade A-E in each subject
based on assessment in Year 10 (formative and summative)
• Provide an ongoing, cumulative record for students
• Record grades for courses students complete in Year 10 (and
in Year 11/Year 12)
5. Who will get a RoSA?
• Students entering Year 9 in 2020 will be eligible for the
credential when they have completed Stage 5 (Year 10 in
2021)
• Students will need to have successfully completed the
mandatory requirements for Stage 5 (Year 10) to eligible for a
RoSA. This includes:
o Following and completing a pattern of courses required by
NESA
o Applying themselves with diligence and sustained effort in
their studies

15. How is the decision made to
run a subject?
• Edval will match the best fit of subjects.
• Subjects which only a few students have selected may
not run. (This decision is made by the principal.)
• Students may not always get their first choices.
• In this instance, the reserve subject will be placed into the
student’s choices by Edval.
16. Literacy and Numeracy
Requirements
• A key element of the recent HSC reforms is the
establishment of a minimum standard in literacy and
numeracy for the award of the HSC.
• All students will sit online literacy and numeracy tests during
Year 10, Year 11 or Year 12 to demonstrate they have met
the standards in reading, writing and numeracy.
• Note: Year 9 NAPLAN results no longer prequalify students
to meet these minimum standards.
