Dog Bite Injury
There are a lot of people out there that will buy a dog without knowing how to properly train or
handle the dog. These people buy big mean looking dogs to try and look cool to their peers and
other people they encounter in the streets while not taking the proper responsibilities to own the
dog. These are the people who cause the highest percentage of dog bite injury cases.
If you or someone you care about has been attacked or injured by one of these negligent dog owners
you should contact a dog bite lawyer who can help you to figure out whether or not you have the
basic rights to file a law suit against the negligent party for financial damages. These attorney's will
make sure that you get the full compensation you deserve from the negligent

A Short Story : A Story?
'He was pushing the bushes and tree branches to the side, making his way through the cold and dark
forest.' Said grandma Lizzie. 'It was fine until,' she lifted her arm and... 'OUCH! Snake bite!'
screamed grandma hitting the wooden table. Amanda and Stephen jumped back scared, as the loud
bang echoed inside their ears. Suddenly, loud thunder storms started, and the clouds started heavily
crying. Moments later the windows opened and let the cold air inside. 'What's going on?' cried
Stephen. 'It shouldn't be this cold, it's summer.' Stephen was confused. Everyone was confused. 'I
remember this happened to your father one time' mentioned grandma, stroking her chin. 'It was all
over the newspapers and radios'. Grandma rushed to her room and came back with a small tin box.
There were cut outs about an old article and pictures of Amanda and Stephen's father. 'Someone had
sent a missile towards the sun,' explained Lizzie, as she flipped through the cut outs. 'the weather
changed, and your father was sent out to stop whoever did this. Now it's happening again.'. Amanda
stood up and quickly glanced out the window. 'I can do this!' said Amanda, with a confident look on
her face. 'If dad did it, I can do it!' Grandma Lizzie shook her head and stared at the ground in
disagreement. Amanda's dad died when he tried to stop whoever changed the seasons, Lizzie didn't
want the same to happen with her only grandchildren. 'She won't do it by herself.' Stephen stood up
with Amanda. The day

Application Of The Quick Bite
The 'Quick Bite' is a mobile application that allows the customers to place an
order for their favorite food by themselves without waiting for someone to come to
them and taken an order. The customer who wants to use this service he/she has to
download the application of the restaurants in prior to the visit of the restaurant.
Once the application has been downloaded customer just need to connect to a WI–FI

This application might be very useful in countries like India because I have
gone through many restaurants and I have experienced the waiting time for
someone to take an order. There may be situations when there or more number of
people visited a restaurant then it takes more time to place an order because they
need to finalize what they are going to have. So, the Quick bite application would
definitely make the things quite simpler.
The problem I am trying to solve is the waiting period a customer waits for
someone to take an order or when there are a group of customers there would be
more discussions on what food to order. So the best answer would be the 'Quite Bite
application'. There are good benefits with this application like it would be the
customer who could order his food whenever he is ready to order. This would
definitely saves time for customers and they would feel the advancement in the
technology and will like the interface. I would

Descriptivetive Of The Beast : Personal Narrative : The Beast
The Beast
It was and endless repetition of when we jump dog bites our feet through the tramp. When out of
nowhere the dog jumps on. Uh! Oh! We all thought. They all huddled together and I was face to
face with the growling beast. It felt like it was slow motion. My friends moving like a snail towards
each other each step louder and slower than the other. I saw them look towards me and their smile
was changing. What was it changing into? Oh no their face looked worried. Scared to turn my head
in the direction they were staring at it was Brooklyn's dog. He was flying through the air. His feet
one by one landed on the tramp, and making the tramp scream as if he was a roller coaster making
people scream. There standing was the beast. I felt like it was a stare down. Neither one of us dared
to blink and then the dog blinked. When he was barely going to close his eye I decided to move a
little away from where he was staring. He noticed he hurried and opened his eyes. He lunged
forward towards me. Then BOOM!!!! I was tackled by the dog. I immediately went into a ball. As
scared as I was I couldn't let my friend's dog hurt me. "OW!!" I shouted from the top of my lungs.
Then all I saw was blood.... One blazing hot summer day I was walking down the street to my
friends house to jump on her super bouncy tramp. I had just arrived at her two story blue house
when I heard them jumping on the tramp, so I decided to knock (her gate doesn't open). I knocked

3.1 Describe how to manage an infant and a child with foreign bodies in their eyes, ears and nose.
Children having foreign bodies in their eyes, ears and noses are common things you will see this a
lot if you were to work in a minor injuries unit or in a walk in centre. There are several things that
can gets stuck in any of these places crayons, glitter and beads. Beads fit into the ears and noses
incredibly well, its almost like they are asking for it to happen. When things get stuck up a child's
nose or ears, unless there is enough sticking out to get a firm grip on E.g. a crayon, and gently ease

It isn't uncommon for children to have to use these before they do any exercise and they should
always have their inhaler to help deal with there asthma should they need it. If they do not have it
available and it is left untreated then the child could then die from an asthma attack.
To help the child you can: Try making the child more comfortable it is recommended to put them in
a seating position so that are comfy and it encourages air to get to the lungs. Encourage the child to
use their inhaler. It will usually be a blue inhaler. Reassure the child n try to get them to breathe
deep, slow breaths. If the attack does not calm down then call for an ambulance.
Sickle cell anaemia
Sickle cell anaemia is caused when the red blood cells are of an unusual shape. This is a condition
which is genetically inherited and is especially common in Afro–Caribbean children. Children who
have sickle cell disease can have what's called a sickle cell crisis, this is due to the misshaped blood
cells that cling to each other and gather in the joints of the body. This is usually very painful and can
make the child very uncomfortable and distressed. The setting should be given instructions from the
parents on how to treat the child. This is usually done by comforting the child and calling for
medical help or an ambulance.

Diabetes is a life long medical condition that is due to the body not producing enough insulin to
control the sugars that are in the body.

Analysis Of The Bite Of The Mango
Childs soldier in conflict, Mariatu Kamara along with Susan Mcclelland together wrote the book
called The Bite of the Mango. Mariatu Kamara who was born and raised in the west African nation
of Sierra Leone wrote this book based on her experience living in brutal civil war with the help of
Susan Mcclelland who is a freelance magazine journalist based in Toronto. Mariatu Kamara
harrowing experiences as a child victim of war and the aftermath are the subject of her story The
Bite of the Mango. Throughout the book Mariatu went through hardships and got to the point
wanting to commit suicide multiple time. She show us that even through time of pain and
discouragement, if you keep your head up and always look forward you will successfully find joy in
life. The moral and ethical issues that the story raised were how in so many countries in poverty,
many innocent citizens are caught in the crossfire of violent parties fighting against the government.
Mariatu and her whole village are one example of the thousands of innocent citizens who were
caught in the crossfire, many of which lost their hands and were told to go to their president and
show him. The problem with the violent groups injuring these innocent citizens then telling them to
go show their president, is that many of these citizens are uneducated and poor and did not even
know what a president was. Mariatu Kamara led a carefree childhood growing up in a small village
in Sierra Leone, until the unfateful day she was sent

Snakes In Pennsylvania
Often in Pennsylvania many people walk passed one of these 3 types of snakes without being aware
they are in their presence. In Pennsylvania there are very few, but extremely venomous snakes. With
all of them living in varied habitats, these snakes are found throughout the entire state. These 3
snakes are the timber rattlesnake, the eastern massasauga, and the copperhead (Pennsylvania Fish &
Boat Commission). The venom these snakes contain can be very dangerous and harmful and they
can all affect the organism bitten in many different way. Many symptoms may show after being
bitten and there are various treatments to help overthrow the effects of the venom. Pennsylvania has

The timber rattlesnake has a yellow (light) and black (dark) color phases, there are no markings on
their heads, and they have a dark band along their back (Pennsylvania Boat & Fish Commission).
Each time a rattlesnake sheds its skin, it adds a new rattle to the end of its tail (Pennsylvania Boat &
Fish Commission). It is quite well known that these snakes have a rattle at the end of their tail that
they will shake to warn predators to stay away. The eastern massasauga is known for its small body
size averaging less than 2 feet in length with a row of dark blotches down the middle of of its back
with smaller spots along each side (Pennsylvania Boat & Fish Commission). Comparing the 2
snakes, it is apparent that they are quite different in size and have different colors and patterns to
their scales. The copperhead snake is tan or light brown in color and also has larger but more narrow
blotches along the length of his body and their head are a copper color with no markings
(Pennsylvania Boat & Fish Commission). As these snakes all show different traits they all are
similar because they are all from the pit viper family and are extremely

Bite of Twilight
The feminist idea was designed to define, establish, and defend equal political, economic, and social
rights for women. In the articles Taking a Bite Out of Twilight, written by Carmen D. Siering an
assistant professor of English and women's studies at Bell State University, and Two Ways a Women
Can Get Hurt, written by Jean Kilbourne who is an award winning author and educator, the idea of
feminism in today's media is questioned. Seiring writes about a popular book, titled Twilight, and
how the main female character of the novel goes against the idea of feminism. Kilbourne, however,
writes about how advertising in today's society is portraying women in a distinctively non–feminist
way. Both authors are trying to convey to their readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then shows an ad in her article that shows three men tearing at a woman's clothes. One man is
pulling her leg, another at her arm and the third man has her lifted off the ground by pulling the
waistband of her pants. Kilbourne also believes that ads are increasing the likelihood of rape on
women. She writes, "Men are also encouraged to never take no for an answer. Ad after ad implies
that girls and women don't really mean "no" when they say it, that women are only teasing when
they resist men's advances. (Kilbourne pg. 462)." She then follows up her statement with an
advertisement of perfume that says to, "Apply generously to your neck so he can smell the scent as
you shack your head 'no' (Kilbourne pg. 462)." The ad isn't even trying to mask the message of its
true meaning which only enhances Kilbourne's claim that it is becoming socially acceptable.
Kilbourne's major claim is that the advertising of women has extended to a point where their bodies
are represented as objects which leads to normalizing the attitudes that lead to sexual aggression.
In both Taking a Bite Out Of Twilight and Two ways a women can get hurt the authors speak about
how women are influenced by media; although both articles do discuss it in different aspects.
Siering discusses in her article the way that women become influenced by the certain books they
read, while in contrast Kilbourne discusses how women are influenced by what they see

Summary Of Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver
The book I chose to read was Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater.
The story is set in the cold months of October and December, with flashbacks to summertime. It is
set in modern–day America on the border of Canada and the fictional town of Mercy falls,
Minnesota. The book mostly surrounds Boundary Woods, were the wolf pack lives; the Crooked
Shelf, a bookstore; and Duluth, another busy town bordering Mercy Falls.
The story is set in present day, probably in early 2000s because there are no smart phones and not all
teens have a phone like most people today.
The story is narrated by two teenagers: Grace and Sam.
The story's protagonists are Grace Brisbane, a seventeen–year–old girl, and Sam Roth, an eighteen–
year–old boy. Grace was bitten by wolves when she was eleven but she does not fear them. In fact,
for the past six years, she has had an infatuation with one wolf who visits her most days during the
winter. This wolf has yellow eyes and turns out to be Sam. Sam was bitten by a wolf at the age of
seven and becomes a wolf when it turns cold outside. He is not a werewolf, but he is not a human or
a wolf. He refers to himself as "just Sam" because he feels he is not wolf or human. Even though
Grace was bitten, she did not become a human–wolf, unlike everyone else who has ever been bitten,

This symbolizes the gunshot wound that Sam sustained after Jack had gone missing. The wolf pack
was being hunted and Sam was shot in the shoulder, which somehow made him turn human. That
gunshot wound is what brought him and Grace together. Another symbolism example is also on the
cover of the book. It is what I presume to be Grace in a forest– probably Boundary Wood– and Sam
in wolf form. This is an image of the forest that they spend so much time in. It also gives an
example of the creepy place where the wolves live, and it is foggy, which represents the mystery
surrounding the wolves and their

A Bite Of The Mango Analysis
The mere idea of a child under the age of eighteen being directly affected by war is unimaginable.
However, it has happened and is still happening, and the effects these children confront in the
aftermath is awful. When a country is participating in a war, it creates an environment that is
psychologically more damaging to boys than girls.
For starters, when it comes to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the children of war–torn
countries, such as Sierra Leone, suffer more mental challenges before they are sixteen than most
people in America will ever experience. The adolescent child soldiers in particular battle the
struggles of PTSD the hardest:
Children's scars from armed conflict are not always as evident as a bullet wound or a lost ... Show

During the Sierra Leonean war, when a boy is recruited into the army or the rebel group, they
quickly turn to drugs. "The combination of these drugs gave us a lot of energy and made us fierce.
The idea of death didn't cross my mind at all and killing had become as easy as drinking water"
(Beah 122). With the help of drugs, these boys see themselves as invincible; as a result, they keep
taking them in order to continue to feel powerful and to suppress all of their terrible memories.
Girls, on the other hand, in Sierra Leone during the civil war have not been known to establish an
addiction to drugs. More often than not, women are there to focus on taking care of the children and
the family and do not have time for drugs. When it comes to addiction, it is easy to understand that
in these circumstances boys are more likely to become addicted to drugs than girls

The Bite Of The Mango
Compare and Contrast Essay
The Bite of the Mango speaks about the war in Sierra Leone in the 1990s and is through the eyes of
Mariatu Kamara, a female and amputee, while A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier is
written by Ishmael Beah, a boy soldier that lost everything. They both were casualties to one of the
most brutal civil wars; however, their experiences were different due to gender.
Kamara originated from Sierra Leone and lived in small villages until the age of 12. She heard talk
of rebels coming to her villages and she and her family prepared for it every time until the day her
grandmothers superstitions came true. "Whenever you dream of palm oil', my grandmother had told
me when I was seven, 'blood will spill by the end of the day" (Kamara 25). Her first night in
Manarma she dreamt of palm oil, and the next morning her life was changed forever. Ambushed by
the rebels and nowhere to go, she was forced to watch villagers burned alive inside a house. After
the rebels let her go, she travelled around until she found help from a man who pointed her in the
direction of women who would help her to a clinic in Port Loko. Upon reaching the village, she was
treated as if she was a threat, and after clearing up the misunderstanding, was told why. The rebels
had been sending young girls under the guise of needing help, into villages, and once their guards
were done, the rebels would attack. Teens were to be wary of in the villages. Once she reached the

¨The biggest increase in dog bites came from dogs that were owned but not on a leash¨,(Victor,
Daniel). Because many people think that their dogs won't run off when they aren't on a leash, but
when a dog senses something they will take off. If you own a dog that is aggressive then to try and
find a trainer or try to educate yourself on how to control it and also if you have a dog that could
potentially be dangerous while taking it on a walk do not to take the leash off and to be extra careful
of the people around you. Because people do not realize that your dog could potentially bite
someone if it is roaming freely. ¨A dog needs to see a constant social structure and that is
authoritative¨, said Mr. Paquette. ¨That same family may be democratic among itself . But nature
dictates that a dog sees dominant hierarchy¨,( Corman). Before people get a dog they need to know
how to be properly educated on how to train one.
Dogs can be very protective they can either be protecting themselves, pups, food, toys, and even
their owners.¨Dogs do not think the way we think. They have no conscience, and do not feel guilty
about anything we judge as wrong¨,(Wilson). Dogs have no control over what they do it's all about
instinct and a person as an owner has to be able to control that. People see dogs as pets not as
vicious animals, but if a dog is feeling threatened, then it will do the best to protect and

Descriptive Essay On The Day Of The Dog
"Hold on mom, I'm in the bathroom," I yell as I hurry to finish. "Dot, I need you right now!" my
mom exclaims, obviously needing something. As I finish and wash my hands, I run out of the
bathroom, down the stairs, out of the back door, and into the backyard. I spot her down at the
bottom of the hill, by the fence. I don't see my American Bulldog, Larry, in the backyard. Still
wearing my shin guards and jersey from my field hockey game I just came home from, I run down
the hill to see what she was yelling about. I notice that Larry is on the other side of the fence, in the
woods, barking at a brown creature. Neither my mom nor I knew what it was, but Larry seemed
pretty intrigued by it.
My mom and I were holding treats out to him to try to get him to come back under the medium–
sized hole in the fence, but none of our efforts worked. Larry being a large dog, we didn't
understand how he got through a hole that wasn't that big. As we discussed what we thought it was,
the animal, which we discovered was a deer, got up and started to run deeper into the woods,
followed by Larry. In that moment, I decided to hop my wooden fence and run after the deer and my
dog. Holding a bag of treats in my hand and running through the woods dodging trees and spiky
plants, I repeatedly called his name, trying to get him to come back to me. After around thirty
seconds of me running after Larry and the deer, the deer stopped. I kept trying to get my dog's

Black Widow Spiders Essay
Adult black widow spiders have a shiny, black, rounded, circular abdomen and
are about 1/3 inch long (about 1–1/2 inches when their legs are spread).
Adult spiders have two reddish or yellowish triangles on their bottom which
looks like an hourglass marking, and their body color is dark colored usually
black or sometimes dark brown. They are usually recognized because of their
red or red–orange hourglass design on the bottom of their abdomen. This
pattern is changeable and may look like two separated spots. In some spiders
there is no pattern on the abdomen. The immature stages of both sexes of the
widow spiders have red or red–orange or yellow spots and strips on the top
of their abdomen. Females are colored gray ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Death usually results
from respiratory paralysis. People with a history of high blood pressure are
at the greatest risk. But immediate medical treatment can reduce the danger
from widow bites and has reduced fatalities to very low rates in recent
years. However, this spider is considered the most venomous spider in North
America.
If you are bitten stay calm, get the spider, if you can for positive
identification and because of the possible severity of black widow bites you
should get immediate medical attention is important. If you apply an
antiseptic such as iodine or hydrogen peroxide prevents infection.
Physicians can inject calcium gluconate to help the effects of the toxin so
it is less harmful. This helps support levels of calcium salts that are low
by the effects of a bite. You can also get black widow antiserum. Since the
toxin moves quickly through the body trying to suck out the poison doesn't
work. People younger than 16 and older than 60, especially those with a
heart condition might have to stay at a hospital.
The black widow spider is shy and usually not aggressive and bites can be
rare even when there are lots of them. The adult female spiders usually stay
in their webs unless they have to because of the temperature or if their web
gets destroyed. They do not search for food and they eat the insects they
get in their webs and are eaten when they get to them. Human bites

Brown Recluse Research Paper
While almost all spiders have venom and possess the ability to bite, most arachnids found in New
Jersey pose little to no risk to humans. With that said, a few potentially dangerous species do reside
in Jersey, and knowing the habit and appearance of these venomous spiders can help you avoid
them.
Brown Recluse Spider
An adult brown recluse (Loxosceles reclusa) measures between 6 and 11 millimeters with a dark
brown to dull yellow coloring. The most distinctive characteristic is the violin or fiddle–shape mark
located on the cephalothorax. Unlike other spiders who have 8 eyes, the brown recluse only has six.
However, counting the eyes of a spider can be a bit difficult without a magnifying glass or
microscope. The brown recluse dwells in barns, homes, basements, storage boxes, woodpiles,
behind furniture and various other dark, sheltered areas. The brown recluse hunts for its food and
doesn't use its web for catching prey.
A bite from the brown recluse may go undetected until symptoms start to appear several hours later.
In serious cases, tissue damage, necrosis or open wounds that won't heat can occur from the bite of
this spider. The bite also poses a fatal risk to children, the elderly and individuals suffering from a

Bite Mark Analysis
Bite Mark Analysis Criminal cases many times call for the examination of evidence that can tie a
suspect or victim to a crime scene or to one another. These physical traces frequently include blood
and other bodily fluids, hair, fibers, and even bite marks. Here we will focus our attention to the
latter and its accuracy, as it applies to the field of forensic science referred to forensic odontology or
forensic dentistry. Forensic odontology is the field of forensic science dealing with the recognition
of unique attributes present in each individual's dental composition.[1] This branch of forensics
relies heavily on extensive and detailed knowledge of the teeth, jaws, and dental anatomy possessed
by a dentist. In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also seems to be the case that skin gets distorted when bitten or the teeth slide during the act of
biting.[8] Furthermore, the level of distortion tends to increase after the bite mark was made. A
studies suggest that for the bite mark to be accurately analyzed, the body must be examined in
exactly the same position it was in when the bite occurred which can be a difficult if not an
impossible task to accomplish. In addition, bite mark analysis is also controversial because dental
profiles are subject to change. The loss and/or chipping of teeth, or the alteration of arch
configuration through a variety of procedures, such as the use of braces, is common in human
populations. The onset of oral diseases such as dental caries has been shown to alter the arch and
tooth configuration and must be taken into account when comparing a dental profile to the bite mark
after a significant amount of time has passed since the mark was made.[9] All of these variables
affect the validity of a bite mark analysis and trying to identify an biter through the uniqueness of
his or her dentition. One particular case that highlighted the lack of uniqueness in bite marks
involved two suspects accused of attacking a man that had sustained a bite mark injury. Two
separate forensic dentists, one representing the prosecution and one the defense, were brought in to
analyze the mark. They

A Short Story : A Story?
I see the sweet, alluring flowers in the crammed valley. The raw herbs itch my legs, satisfying my
pleasure with bliss. Picking from the sticky weeds, I find a handsome blossom and add it to my
assortment. I glance to the town as the people worship me with the joys of Spring. I grin in
satisfaction and love.
As the day grows old, I sigh in content. My delight and basket overflow with hard work. My legs
covered in bug bites and cuts from the overgrown grass. The once white dress is now bitten by the
meadow. I swallow the heartbreak as the sun hides, but smile when I remember how tomorrow will
be.
Unexpectedly, I feel a shiver through my spine. The rolling hills shift in temperature. I break to the
golden gates of home. The carefully chiseled arches stand tall, unafraid of the sudden bleak climate.
I tremble with uneasiness and wish my dress can swallow me.
''Persephone!'' a deep rumble trails behind me.
The ground wobbles in horror. I swivel around quick and get light headed at the sight in front of me.
A scream would never exit my body, it froze in dread. There stood the devil, King of the
Underworld, Hades.
Hades palm crashed against my arm. My frigid skin felt foreign to his burning hand. I hiss in pain
and discomfort. I know nothing good can ever happen out of this. Why was he here? I thought. A
hard tug made my shoulder blade burn. I tremble as he starts to open his mouth.
" Come with me, Persephone." his mouth closes in a hum.
I finally grab my courage.

for the audio, which is DTS–HD Master Audio Stereo for both, it's a bit on the low side in Curse II's

It all started one day when out of the blue a rice farmer named John in Asia specifically in the
mountains in northern China was tending to his crops and got bitten by a bug that he has never
encountered before. Not worried about it he continued to work, but soon enough he started to feel
some pain. His arm started to swell, his body began to ache, and his skin started to change color.
The bite started to ooze out a yellow pus and it also started to change color to a deep purple . When
he got home his wife not knowing what to do, took him down to the local doctor, Dr.Gunj. The
doctor examined the farmer and explained to his wife," I have never seen anything like that before
and must take him to emergency room in Hong Kong if you wish to find out what that bite is from."

Benefits Of Pet Ownership Essay
“I think I could turn and live with the animals. They are so placid and self–contained,';
writes American poet Walt Whitman (Schellenberg 1). Yes, pets have been part of human culture
throughout history, and in American households, they are more common than children. It is reported
that 58% of U.S. households have at least one pet, whereas only 35% have children (Whitaker;
Witherell 76). Owners spend billions of dollars each year on pet food, accessories, and veterinary
care, but apparently pets give back, too (Schellenberg 1). Medical studies show that pet
companionship offers concrete health benefits (Simross 14). While only in the past few decades
have scientists become interested in the benefits of pets on human health ... Show more content on

A recent study at UCLA found that 37% of Medicare patients who owned pets visited their doctor
less frequently and seemed to tolerate stressful events better (Whitaker). These are only the physical
benefits.
“Being with animals. . .is just good for our hearts and souls. We . . .know that animals
can lower blood pressure and help us live longer. But there is a whole other spiritual level there,';
writes Susan McElroy, author of Animals as Teachers and Healers (Simross 15). The psychological
benefits include reduced mental distress, a sense of security, lower rates of depression, and higher
morale (Schellenberg 2). Serving as an effective stress reducer, “stroking an animal is
calming,'; says UCLA psychologist Dr. Judith Siegel (Witherell 77). Patients who watched a fish
tank before going into surgery did as well as those who underwent hypnosis to reduce anxiety and
discomfort (Schellenberg 2). The benefits are obvious no matter if the animal has four legs, wings,
fins, or even scales.
Why such beneficial effects? “Ironically, the most common reason people give for not
having pets–having to care for them–is one of the reasons pets improve health. Pets require that you
‘extend’ yourself when you normally wouldn’t, and for
people who are ill or just want better health, pets turn them into ‘care

Bite Marks Weaknesses
Weaknesses of Bite Mark Analysis The lack of large–scale systematic research and data collection
on the correlation between bite marks and dentition limits the degree to which bite marks can be
considered a unique character. By its nature, research concerning bite marks, especially on humans,
are difficult to conduct. Models using animal skin or wax are often used in bite mark research as
well as education. Though these models are a good tool for research, they cannot replace data
sourced from humans. A study has shown that examiners have a lower degree of reliability when
examining bite marks in animal skin versus those in wax (Whittaker, 1975). This decrease in
reliability can easily roll over to the examination of human bite marks. Research also varies in their
findings: some negating their uniqueness (Bush, Bush, & Sheets, 2010), while others support it
(Rawson, Ommen, Kinard, Johnson , & Yfanits, 1984). These differing results can be attributed to
the sample size which the researchers used. Forensic odontologists lack sufficient data to
conclusively ascertain the prevalence of specific dental characteristics within a given population and
thus have difficulty providing scientifically–proven probabilities of dentition patterns matching. A
'match' is described as "specimens that could not be determined as distinguishable within
measurement error" (Saks, Albright, Bohan, Bierer, & Bowers, 2016, p. 558). However, it is found
that the probability of having matches

Analysis Of 'The Bite Of The Mango'
"Things had rapidly changed in a matter of seconds and no one had any control over anything"
(Beah 29). Ishmael Beah's harrowing story about what it meant to be a rebel during the war in Sierra
Leone is disturbing and unfathomable. For him, killing was a second nature and he considered the
war to be as addictive as cocaine and marijuana. Unlike A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy
Soldier, Mariatu Kamara's story is told from a completely different perspective. In The Bite of the
Mango, she describes having her hands chopped off by the rebels and became impregnated by her
uncle's close friend. With the help of journalism, Mariatu's story was heard globally. At the end of
the book, she learns how to use her voice as a catalyst for good and ... Show more content on

After moving back home, she was fortunate enough to move to Canada, where she found a Sierra
Leonean family that looked after her and made her feel like she was back in Magborou. Although
both Mariatu and Ishmael were on unclear journeys, their involvements in the war were radically
different. After experiencing the power and brute force of the rebels, Ishmael was soon seduced by
the notion of fighting and violence. He began beating and attacking innocent civilians, which later
escalated into full–blown killings. "The idea of death didn't cross my mind at all and killing had
become as easy as drinking water" (Beah 122). Ishmael felt the need to constantly hold a weapon
and was irascible once the effects of marijuana and cocaine had vanished from his bloodstream. He
soon lost control of his own actions, which made him even more dangerous. His addiction to
cocaine, marijuana, and the war only provoked him further to harm more innocent people. Unlike
Ishmael, Mariatu did not engage or instigate violence. Like most other Sierra Leoneans, she lived in
constant fear for her life. Even though the rebels decided to let her go, they cut off her hands as a
declaration that they did not want her to cast a vote. "'Which hand do you want to lose first?'"
(Kamara 39). The loss of her hands was a permanent reminder of why the war in Sierra Leone was
being fought. Mariatu did not let her disability get the best of her; she learned how to

Did you know that a spider's bite actually doesn't kill you? The bite causes side effects that can lead
up to death if untreated. The brown recluse spider prefers to live and hide in dark corners, and even
places inside your own home, they live under furniture, boxes, and books. The brown recluse's
behavior tends to be shy rather than aggressive. The brown recluse spider only bite when they feel
disturbed or when they are touched. More common attacks by the brown recluse are from clothing.

Open bite malocclusion is either inherited or due to habits, that may persist for a long period.
Treating an open bite malocclusion is challenging, as it requires a high patient compliance and good
orthodontist knowledge and experience, which could be decisive in choosing a suitable treatment
plan. After treating open bite patients, for example, using a palatal crib and a chin cup, only a
significant extrusion of the incisors, as well as an increase in the overbite and the exposure of the
maxillary incisors will be gained, and no significant changes in the level of eruption of the molars,

The Bite Of The Mango Analysis
Life is full of many unknowns. It is unknown what will happen tomorrow, what will happen next
week, next month, next year, and twenty years from now. Some unknowns are negligible. For
instance, like what will be served for dinner next Sunday. But some unknowns are life–changing.
Ishmael Beah's and Mariatu Kamara's unknowns were the wars that lead to the demolition of their
childhoods. But, both fortunate enough to survive their civil wars, Beah and Kamara have written
memoirs of their experiences in the war, Beah, as a child soldier in the war, and Kamara, as a child
victim of the war. This provides vastly different perspectives, however, due to Ismael Beah's A Long

It is heart–wrenching to vividly be made aware of the torture this child had to undergo.
Both Beah and Kamara describe what it is like to live under the cruel conditions of the war, and
although these authors lived in similar world, filled with blood and horror, their life stories are fairly
divergent. Beah's story includes the lives of many people who were also involved in the war. "Some
people tried to hurt us to protect themselves, their family and communities...This was one of the
consequences of civil war. People stopped trusting each other, and every stranger became an enemy.
Even people who knew you became extremely careful about how they related or spoke to you,"
(Beah 37). Ishmael Beah wrote about the wartime experience for the community as a whole, rather
than solely about himself. He included how even people who were close were able to turn on each
other due to the high levels of paranoia. Kamara, on the other hand, wrote mainly about her own
story and how she survived the war. This can still be informative, but Ishmael Beah is able to make
himself more relatable by including in his memoir the ways in which everyone was affected.
At times, Kamara even came across a bit negative. "'Another rainy day,' I growled as I rolled out of
bed, rubbing my eyes. From the kitchen window, I peered at the choppy Thames River below.
'There's more rain in London than I ever saw during the rainy season in Sierra Leone...Do we have
to go out today?'" (Kamara 143).

Generation View Of Reality Essay
Generation's View of Reality
Ben Stiller's 1994 film, Reality Bites, portrays the broad based struggles of
America's twentysomethings through a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of the movie's main
characters. Four friends, recently graduated from college, find themselves over–educated and
under–employed, a theme reiterated in the lives of many Generation Xers according to critic
Marilyn Gardner. She states, "unemployment is higher for those under 25 then it is for the
workforce as a whole." (pg. 14, col. 1) Though Reality Bites bills itself as "a comedy about love
in the 90's," the film is more of a commentary on the issues facing young adults today
(Kempley, Sec. C., pg 7). The central theme concerning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael is a producer for In Your Face Television, a spoof on MTV, the

Somewhere in the middle is Lalaina, a strange mixture of the two. She is the
valedictorian of her graduating class and is briefly employed by a television talk show as an
intern–like production assistant until she is fired. In her valedictory address, she condemns the
BMW driving older generation of her parents who have left a lack of employment and natural
resources for her and her peers. Ironically, her graduation gift from her father is a used
BMW, which she concedes to drive until she can afford an inexpensive car of her own. Lalaina's
unemployment leads her to look for jobs where she is inexperienced (working as a news
journalist) to over–qualified (flipping burgers at Burgerama), none of which are fruitful. Lalaina
then becomes a slacker herself by eating chips and chain smoking in her pajamas for hours a day.
The social issues facing the characters in the film are what differentiates Reality Bites
from other so–called generational flicks such as Rebel Without a Cause, The Graduate, and The
Big Chill. In one of the opening montages, Vicky (Jeanne Garafalo) is shown

Wheels: A Short Story
When I was younger, I had a pet dog named Wheels. My dad got him from a guy at work in 2002. I
was just a little baby when they got him. I had him up until about the 4th or 5th grade. He was a
blue heeler, that loved to chase cars and cattle. He was mainly black and white. He got his name,
because he loved to bite wheels on a car. He sometimes got out of hand and went after people. He
was very protective of our family, not letting unknown people on the deck. My brothers and I would
come home from school, and play with him. If we rode our bikes around the farm he would try and
take the front tire off of the bike. One time he got his teeth stuck in the tire and he got whipped
around it hard. You would think he learned his lesson after that, but he didn't. We had another dog at
the same time as Wheels. His name was Pouché. We'd chase them around the yard and try and pull
their tails, and when we did they got mad. They would try and bite us, we thought it was funny
when the other person was screaming and running away, but when it was our turn it wasn't so funny.
We'd also try and catch some cats with them. My brothers and I would have fishing nets and the
dogs would be chasing them. We always had this one cat that we tried to go after. We called it the
"psycho" cat. It was kind of strange looking, pudgy, scar by his eye, and huge ... Show more content

Essay on How Serious Can a Cat Bite Be?
Pets can make our lives much happier. We must be very careful, though, when it comes to being hurt
by a pet. Playful scratches and bites are common, but some of these bites can become serious and
cause complications.
Animal Bites
The American Pet Association reports that there are about 150M dogs and cats living in the United
States, with cats outnumbering dogs. Animal bites are therefore very common in the US, with about
two to five million people being affected each year, accounting for one percent of emergency room
visits. It is estimated that bout 10–20 people die yearly from animal bites.
Children are the most likely victims, and dogs are the most likely attackers. In fact, up to 90% of all
animal bites are caused by dogs, with cats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lymph nodes in the armpits may become swollen. You may lose sensation in the fingers or hand, as
well as ability to move the hand or arm. Fever, chills, sweating and loss of energy may also occur.
These symptoms should send you to the emergency room or to your doctor's office. More serious
complications include meningitis (affecting the brain coverings) and sepsis (widespread or
disseminated infection).
A recent study published in the Journal of Hand Surgery showed that about a third of patients who
sought emergency treatment for cat bites needed to stay in the hospital for further treatment of
wound infections. Most of these cat bite victims were middle–aged women. Those who were bitten
over the wrist or other joints were the most likely to be hospitalized since antibiotic treatments
failed to prevent infection. The joints are good breeding sites for bacterial growth, and treatment
usually involved flushing the wounds and removing infected tissues every other day, in addition to
antibiotic treatment.
One patient reported washing her bitten wrist and applying antiseptic but was unable to move her
wrist after a week, prompting her to seek further treatment. She ended up spending eight weeks in
the hospital and spending about $150,000 for medical bills.

The Bite Of The Mango Analysis
In history, there is a brutal civil war, but not many people know or talk about it. The war in Sierra
Leone lasted for years, and many families were affected. The rebel army destroyed villages and
killed countless individuals. People lost their homes, families, body parts, and most importantly,
their reality. Young boys were taken on both sides to fight in the war. The books The Bite of the
Mango and A Long Way Gone tell two different points of view during the war. The first being from
a young girl, named Mariatu Kamara, who was physically mutilated, and the other from a boy
soldier, named Ishmael Beah. Even though Mariatu Kamara and Ishmael Beah were both victims of
the war in Sierra Leone, each had a different recovery process. Mariatu Kamara's life was changed
forever by the war. She lived a peaceful life with her aunt and uncle, until the rebels came close to
her village. One day after moving to a nearby town, Mariatu's aunt and uncle sent her and her
cousins to go back to their town to get food, but they never made it. They were sent back early to a
village that was now overrun by rebels. These rebels brutally killed and mutilated people, and
Mariatu was no different. They decided to let her live, but she was still punished. "I closed my eyes
tightly, but then they popped open and I saw everything. It took the boy two attempts to cut off my
right hand...It took three attempts to cut off my left hand" (Kamara 40–41). The rebels took off her
hands so that she would

When A Man Bites A Dog And The Dog: Is It Canine Justice?
When a man bites a dog and the dog is put down for protecting itself; is it Canine Justice?
A dog could clip somebody with their teeth on accident while playing and it gets put down; Do

To dog owner's, losing a family pet is the same thing. Dog's don't bite without reason. Dog bites
are not for illogical or irrational reasons. Many important factors stand out when looking at dog

An owner's negligence is no reason
to execute an animal. The owner of the dog/s could've abused them. There are many dog owners
who raise their animals to attack. A lot of questions should be asked before throwing a dog bite
case away like many judges do. For example; Was the dog provoked, was the owner present, was
the dog contained, and has the dog bitten before? They go ahead with euthanization without
questioning anything. The state believes that since it's a "dangerous" animal, it should be put
down. Because of this a lot of innocent animals are killed for bites when they are not at fault.
Euthanasia is as much of a bother to the state as it is to the family who's losing their pet.
"Depending on the options you choose, putting your dog down can cost anywhere between $50
and $300 (or more)." Euthanization is extremely expensive which means a lot of people cannot
afford it. With how many dogs that get put down every day because of state, the price adds up.
"In America, each year 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs. Out of that only are fatal. More

Since the start of the Sierra Leonean war in March of 1991, innocent civilians have been the primary
target of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF)'s wrath. The people of Sierra Leone have faced
significant problems due to the invasions and attacks by the Rebel Forces and are the main
population that is being affected by this group's disapproval of the government. One person who
experienced profound changes in her life due to the start of this war is Mariatu Kamara, a victim of
a Rebel attack that cost her both her childhood and her hands. Throughout her memoir, "The Bite of
the Mango," she is faced with numerous traumatic events and meets an abundance of people who
were very significant in her life and some of whom helped her survive the war. Kamara also gives
the reader a variety of themes to use as a foundation to understanding war life, which also serve to
help readers learn more about life, grow as people, and rise above to help others in need. Mariatu
Kamara has not only changed the lives of people all throughout Sierra Leone by giving them a voice
and an outlet to share their experiences, but has also proved to be an inspiration for countless

Overt Behavior Paper
Over the years I've noticed my brothers demonstrate several behaviors that I could include in this
paper. Behavior is defined as is any activity of an organism that can be observed or somehow
measured. (BOOK pg 4) There is a specific behavior I've observed my youngest brother, Jeremy do.
More specifically an overt behavior, a behavior that is observed by another person. This is when he
bites the skin off from around his fingers/fingernails. When asked why he bites his skin off, he states
he does this when he is bored. He says he does this to occupy his time, mostly when he feels there is
nothing else to do. I then asked when did he notice he did this particular behavior the most, his
answer was when he is playing baseball. He commented that ... Show more content on

This is a bad and unhealthy habit that needs to be broken, I believe that trying several different
techniques could help in breaking this habit. I think the best way to see what is the best course of
action is to run multiple sets of trials using different techniques to assess if the behavior has
changed. There are countless numbers of experiments I would perform to try and break this habit,
such as; classical conditioning, both positive and negative operant conditioning, etc. to determine
the technique to use I must first decide which theorists I want to be. Either looking at this behavior
as a behavioral One of the first methods I would use is Pavlov's classical conditioning, which is
when a stimulus elicits a response because it is paired with another stimulus (pg.

Dog Bite Injury

  • 1. Dog Bite Injury There are a lot of people out there that will buy a dog without knowing how to properly train or handle the dog. These people buy big mean looking dogs to try and look cool to their peers and other people they encounter in the streets while not taking the proper responsibilities to own the dog. These are the people who cause the highest percentage of dog bite injury cases. If you or someone you care about has been attacked or injured by one of these negligent dog owners you should contact a dog bite lawyer who can help you to figure out whether or not you have the basic rights to file a law suit against the negligent party for financial damages. These attorney's will make sure that you get the full compensation you deserve from the negligent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A Short Story : A Story? 'He was pushing the bushes and tree branches to the side, making his way through the cold and dark forest.' Said grandma Lizzie. 'It was fine until,' she lifted her arm and... 'OUCH! Snake bite!' screamed grandma hitting the wooden table. Amanda and Stephen jumped back scared, as the loud bang echoed inside their ears. Suddenly, loud thunder storms started, and the clouds started heavily crying. Moments later the windows opened and let the cold air inside. 'What's going on?' cried Stephen. 'It shouldn't be this cold, it's summer.' Stephen was confused. Everyone was confused. 'I remember this happened to your father one time' mentioned grandma, stroking her chin. 'It was all over the newspapers and radios'. Grandma rushed to her room and came back with a small tin box. There were cut outs about an old article and pictures of Amanda and Stephen's father. 'Someone had sent a missile towards the sun,' explained Lizzie, as she flipped through the cut outs. 'the weather changed, and your father was sent out to stop whoever did this. Now it's happening again.'. Amanda stood up and quickly glanced out the window. 'I can do this!' said Amanda, with a confident look on her face. 'If dad did it, I can do it!' Grandma Lizzie shook her head and stared at the ground in disagreement. Amanda's dad died when he tried to stop whoever changed the seasons, Lizzie didn't want the same to happen with her only grandchildren. 'She won't do it by herself.' Stephen stood up with Amanda. Application Of The Quick Bite The 'Quick Bite' is a mobile application that allows the customers to place an order for their favorite food by themselves without waiting for someone to come to them and taken an order. The customer who wants to use this service he/she has to download the application of the restaurants in prior to the visit of the restaurant. Once the application has been downloaded customer just need to connect to a WI–FI of the service provider so that it automatically allows the application to display the This application might be very useful in countries like India because I have gone through many restaurants and I have experienced the waiting time for someone to take an order. There may be situations when there or more number of people visited a restaurant then it takes more time to place an order because they need to finalize what they are going to have. So, the Quick bite application would definitely make the things quite simpler. The problem I am trying to solve is the waiting period a customer waits for someone to take an order or when there are a group of customers there would be more discussions on what food to order. So the best answer would be the 'Quite Bite application'. There are good benefits with this application like it would be the customer who could order his food whenever he is ready to order. This would definitely saves time for customers and they would feel the advancement in the

When out of nowhere the dog jumps on. Uh! Oh! We all thought. They all huddled together and I was face to face with the growling beast. It felt like it was slow motion. My friends moving like a snail towards each other each step louder and slower than the other. I saw them look towards me and their smile was changing. What was it changing into? Oh no their face looked worried. Scared to turn my head in the direction they were staring at it was Brooklyn's dog. He was flying through the air. His feet one by one landed on the tramp, and making the tramp scream as if he was a roller coaster making people scream. There standing was the beast. I felt like it was a stare down. Neither one of us dared to blink and then the dog blinked. When he was barely going to close his eye I decided to move a little away from where he was staring. He noticed he hurried and opened his eyes. He lunged forward towards me. Then BOOM!!!! I was tackled by the dog. I immediately went into a ball. As scared as I was I couldn't let my friend's dog hurt me. "OW!!" I shouted from the top of my lungs. Then all I saw was blood.... • 7. Analysis Of The Bite Of The Mango Childs soldier in conflict, Mariatu Kamara along with Susan Mcclelland together wrote the book called The Bite of the Mango. Mariatu Kamara who was born and raised in the west African nation of Sierra Leone wrote this book based on her experience living in brutal civil war with the help of Susan Mcclelland who is a freelance magazine journalist based in Toronto. Mariatu Kamara harrowing experiences as a child victim of war and the aftermath are the subject of her story The Bite of the Mango. Throughout the book Mariatu went through hardships and got to the point wanting to commit suicide multiple time. She show us that even through time of pain and discouragement, if you keep your head up and always look forward you will successfully find joy in life. The moral and ethical issues that the story raised were how in so many countries in poverty, many innocent citizens are caught in the crossfire of violent parties fighting against the government. Mariatu and her whole village are one example of the thousands of innocent citizens who were caught in the crossfire, many of which lost their hands and were told to go to their president and show him. The problem with the violent groups injuring these innocent citizens then telling them to go show their president, is that many of these citizens are uneducated and poor and did not even know what a president was. • 9. Bite of Twilight The feminist idea was designed to define, establish, and defend equal political, economic, and social rights for women. In the articles Taking a Bite Out of Twilight, written by Carmen D. Siering an assistant professor of English and women's studies at Bell State University, and Two Ways a Women Can Get Hurt, written by Jean Kilbourne who is an award winning author and educator, the idea of feminism in today's media is questioned. Seiring writes about a popular book, titled Twilight, and how the main female character of the novel goes against the idea of feminism. Kilbourne, however, writes about how advertising in today's society is portraying women in a distinctively non–feminist way. Both authors are trying to convey to their readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She then shows an ad in her article that shows three men tearing at a woman's clothes. One man is pulling her leg, another at her arm and the third man has her lifted off the ground by pulling the waistband of her pants. Kilbourne also believes that ads are increasing the likelihood of rape on women. She writes, "Men are also encouraged to never take no for an answer. Ad after ad implies that girls and women don't really mean "no" when they say it, that women are only teasing when they resist men's advances. (Kilbourne pg. 462)." She then follows up her statement with an advertisement of perfume that says to, "Apply generously to your neck so he can smell the scent as you shack your head 'no' (Kilbourne pg. 462)." The ad isn't even trying to mask the message of its true meaning which only enhances Kilbourne's claim that it is becoming socially acceptable. Kilbourne's major claim is that the advertising of women has extended to a point where their bodies are represented as objects which leads to normalizing the attitudes that lead to sexual aggression. In both Taking a Bite Out Of Twilight and Two ways a women can get hurt the authors speak about how women are influenced by media; although both articles do discuss it in different aspects. • 10. Summary Of Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver The book I chose to read was Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. The story is set in the cold months of October and December, with flashbacks to summertime. It is set in modern–day America on the border of Canada and the fictional town of Mercy falls, Minnesota. The book mostly surrounds Boundary Woods, were the wolf pack lives; the Crooked Shelf, a bookstore; and Duluth, another busy town bordering Mercy Falls. The story is set in present day, probably in early 2000s because there are no smart phones and not all teens have a phone like most people today. The story is narrated by two teenagers: Grace and Sam. The story's protagonists are Grace Brisbane, a seventeen–year–old girl, and Sam Roth, an eighteen– year–old boy. Grace was bitten by wolves when she was eleven but she does not fear them. In fact, for the past six years, she has had an infatuation with one wolf who visits her most days during the winter. This wolf has yellow eyes and turns out to be Sam. Sam was bitten by a wolf at the age of seven and becomes a wolf when it turns cold outside. He is not a werewolf, but he is not a human or a wolf. He refers to himself as "just Sam" because he feels he is not wolf or human. • 11. A Bite Of The Mango Analysis The mere idea of a child under the age of eighteen being directly affected by war is unimaginable. However, it has happened and is still happening, and the effects these children confront in the aftermath is awful. When a country is participating in a war, it creates an environment that is psychologically more damaging to boys than girls. For starters, when it comes to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the children of war–torn countries, such as Sierra Leone, suffer more mental challenges before they are sixteen than most people in America will ever experience. The adolescent child soldiers in particular battle the struggles of PTSD the hardest: Children's scars from armed conflict are not always as evident as a bullet wound or a lost ... With the help of drugs, these boys see themselves as invincible; as a result, they keep taking them in order to continue to feel powerful and to suppress all of their terrible memories. Girls, on the other hand, in Sierra Leone during the civil war have not been known to establish an addiction to drugs. • 13. The Bite Of The Mango Compare and Contrast Essay The Bite of the Mango speaks about the war in Sierra Leone in the 1990s and is through the eyes of Mariatu Kamara, a female and amputee, while A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier is written by Ishmael Beah, a boy soldier that lost everything. They both were casualties to one of the most brutal civil wars; however, their experiences were different due to gender. Kamara originated from Sierra Leone and lived in small villages until the age of 12. She heard talk of rebels coming to her villages and she and her family prepared for it every time until the day her grandmothers superstitions came true. "Whenever you dream of palm oil', my grandmother had told me when I was seven, 'blood will spill by the end of the day" (Kamara 25). Her first night in Manarma she dreamt of palm oil, and the next morning her life was changed forever. Ambushed by the rebels and nowhere to go, she was forced to watch villagers burned alive inside a house. After the rebels let her go, she travelled around until she found help from a man who pointed her in the direction of women who would help her to a clinic in Port Loko. Upon reaching the village, she was treated as if she was a threat, and after clearing up the misunderstanding, was told why. The rebels had been sending young girls under the guise of needing help, into villages, and once their guards were done, the rebels would attack. Teens were to be wary of in the villages. As I finish and wash my hands, I run out of the bathroom, down the stairs, out of the back door, and into the backyard. I spot her down at the bottom of the hill, by the fence. I don't see my American Bulldog, Larry, in the backyard. Still wearing my shin guards and jersey from my field hockey game I just came home from, I run down the hill to see what she was yelling about. I notice that Larry is on the other side of the fence, in the woods, barking at a brown creature. Neither my mom nor I knew what it was, but Larry seemed pretty intrigued by it. My mom and I were holding treats out to him to try to get him to come back under the medium– sized hole in the fence, but none of our efforts worked. Larry being a large dog, we didn't understand how he got through a hole that wasn't that big. As we discussed what we thought it was, the animal, which we discovered was a deer, got up and started to run deeper into the woods, followed by Larry. In that moment, I decided to hop my wooden fence and run after the deer and my dog. Holding a bag of treats in my hand and running through the woods dodging trees and spiky plants, I repeatedly called his name, trying to get him to come back to me. With that said, a few potentially dangerous species do reside in Jersey, and knowing the habit and appearance of these venomous spiders can help you avoid them. Brown Recluse Spider An adult brown recluse (Loxosceles reclusa) measures between 6 and 11 millimeters with a dark brown to dull yellow coloring. The most distinctive characteristic is the violin or fiddle–shape mark located on the cephalothorax. Unlike other spiders who have 8 eyes, the brown recluse only has six. However, counting the eyes of a spider can be a bit difficult without a magnifying glass or microscope. The brown recluse dwells in barns, homes, basements, storage boxes, woodpiles, behind furniture and various other dark, sheltered areas. The brown recluse hunts for its food and doesn't use its web for catching prey. A bite from the brown recluse may go undetected until symptoms start to appear several hours later. It also seems to be the case that skin gets distorted when bitten or the teeth slide during the act of biting.[8] Furthermore, the level of distortion tends to increase after the bite mark was made. A studies suggest that for the bite mark to be accurately analyzed, the body must be examined in exactly the same position it was in when the bite occurred which can be a difficult if not an impossible task to accomplish. In addition, bite mark analysis is also controversial because dental profiles are subject to change. The loss and/or chipping of teeth, or the alteration of arch configuration through a variety of procedures, such as the use of braces, is common in human populations. The onset of oral diseases such as dental caries has been shown to alter the arch and tooth configuration and must be taken into account when comparing a dental profile to the bite mark after a significant amount of time has passed since the mark was made.[9] All of these variables affect the validity of a bite mark analysis and trying to identify an biter through the uniqueness of his or her dentition. One particular case that highlighted the lack of uniqueness in bite marks involved two suspects accused of attacking a man that had sustained a bite mark injury. Yes, pets have been part of human culture throughout history, and in American households, they are more common than children. It is reported that 58% of U.S. households have at least one pet, whereas only 35% have children (Whitaker; Witherell 76). Owners spend billions of dollars each year on pet food, accessories, and veterinary care, but apparently pets give back, too (Schellenberg 1). But there is a whole other spiritual level there,'; writes Susan McElroy, author of Animals as Teachers and Healers (Simross 15). • 24. Bite Marks Weaknesses Weaknesses of Bite Mark Analysis The lack of large–scale systematic research and data collection on the correlation between bite marks and dentition limits the degree to which bite marks can be considered a unique character. By its nature, research concerning bite marks, especially on humans, are difficult to conduct. Models using animal skin or wax are often used in bite mark research as well as education. Though these models are a good tool for research, they cannot replace data sourced from humans. A study has shown that examiners have a lower degree of reliability when examining bite marks in animal skin versus those in wax (Whittaker, 1975). This decrease in reliability can easily roll over to the examination of human bite marks. Research also varies in their findings: some negating their uniqueness (Bush, Bush, & Sheets, 2010), while others support it (Rawson, Ommen, Kinard, Johnson , & Yfanits, 1984). These differing results can be attributed to the sample size which the researchers used. Forensic odontologists lack sufficient data to conclusively ascertain the prevalence of specific dental characteristics within a given population and thus have difficulty providing scientifically–proven probabilities of dentition patterns matching. A 'match' is described as "specimens that could not be determined as distinguishable within measurement error" (Saks, Albright, Bohan, Bierer, & Bowers, 2016, p. 558). After experiencing the power and brute force of the rebels, Ishmael was soon seduced by the notion of fighting and violence. People stopped trusting each other, and every stranger became an enemy. Even people who knew you became extremely careful about how they related or spoke to you," (Beah 37). Ishmael Beah wrote about the wartime experience for the community as a whole, rather than solely about himself. He included how even people who were close were able to turn on each other due to the high levels of paranoia. Kamara, on the other hand, wrote mainly about her own story and how she survived the war. This can still be informative, but Ishmael Beah is able to make himself more relatable by including in his memoir the ways in which everyone was affected. At times, Kamara even came across a bit negative. "'Another rainy day,' I growled as I rolled out of bed, rubbing my eyes. From the kitchen window, I peered at the choppy Thames River below. 'There's more rain in London than I ever saw during the rainy season in Sierra Leone...Do we have to go out today?'" (Kamara 143). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Generation View Of Reality Essay Generation's View of Reality Ben Stiller's 1994 film, Reality Bites, portrays the broad based struggles of America's twentysomethings through a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of the movie's main characters. Four friends, recently graduated from college, find themselves over–educated and under–employed, a theme reiterated in the lives of many Generation Xers according to critic Marilyn Gardner. She states, "unemployment is higher for those under 25 then it is for the workforce as a whole." (pg. 14, col. 1) Though Reality Bites bills itself as "a comedy about love in the 90's," the film is more of a commentary on the issues facing young adults today (Kempley, Sec. C., pg 7). • 35. Wheels: A Short Story When I was younger, I had a pet dog named Wheels. My dad got him from a guy at work in 2002. I was just a little baby when they got him. I had him up until about the 4th or 5th grade. He was a blue heeler, that loved to chase cars and cattle. He was mainly black and white. He got his name, because he loved to bite wheels on a car. He sometimes got out of hand and went after people. He was very protective of our family, not letting unknown people on the deck. My brothers and I would come home from school, and play with him. If we rode our bikes around the farm he would try and take the front tire off of the bike. One time he got his teeth stuck in the tire and he got whipped around it hard. You would think he learned his lesson after that, but he didn't. We had another dog at the same time as Wheels. His name was Pouché. We'd chase them around the yard and try and pull their tails, and when we did they got mad. They would try and bite us, we thought it was funny when the other person was screaming and running away, but when it was our turn it wasn't so funny. We'd also try and catch some cats with them. These symptoms should send you to the emergency room or to your doctor's office. More serious complications include meningitis (affecting the brain coverings) and sepsis (widespread or disseminated infection). A recent study published in the Journal of Hand Surgery showed that about a third of patients who sought emergency treatment for cat bites needed to stay in the hospital for further treatment of wound infections. Most of these cat bite victims were middle–aged women. Those who were bitten over the wrist or other joints were the most likely to be hospitalized since antibiotic treatments failed to prevent infection. The joints are good breeding sites for bacterial growth, and treatment usually involved flushing the wounds and removing infected tissues every other day, in addition to antibiotic treatment. One patient reported washing her bitten wrist and applying antiseptic but was unable to move her wrist after a week, prompting her to seek further treatment. She ended up spending eight weeks in the hospital and spending about $150,000 for medical bills. They were sent back early to a village that was now overrun by rebels. These rebels brutally killed and mutilated people, and Mariatu was no different. They decided to let her live, but she was still punished. "I closed my eyes tightly, but then they popped open and I saw everything.
