The World Of World War II
World War II The world has experienced many wars. However, two of them have particularly
influenced the world history, World War I and World War II. However, the most pronounced among
the two is World War II. World War II was a global war, which took place between 1939 and 1945.
This war grew out of issues left unresolved by earlier conflicts of World War I. It involved virtually
every part of the world. The primary combatants were the Axis powers– Germany, Italy and Japan
and the Allies– France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union and China. WW II was the
most prevalent historical war, which involved over 100 million people from approximately 30
countries. Characterized by mass civilian deaths, including the Holocaust as ... Show more content

However, the peace agreements that led to the end of WW I did not bring safety and democracy to
the world, but rather caused bitterness, alongside with anger that initiated WW II. Initially,
Germany, with its allies lost in WW I. Particularly, it has lost a sixth of its territory, in addition to
being forced to pay colossal recompenses. Thus after WW I, Germany had to tackle issues of high
level of unemployment together with uncontrollable inflations. The German currency lost almost all
its value, and this led to many Germans fuming with anger at the peace treaty. A Confederation of
Nations was formed after WW I to peace. However, the U.S was not involved, and other states were
extremely busy to think about Germany, alongside other trouble spots. Consequently, in 1930s, an
economic depression hit the world and led to the loss of jobs, falling of trade, and times became
extremely hard. Thus, people went about in search of leaders that could initiate change. At that time,
Italy, Japan, and Germany were under the leadership of dictators. Italy was under the rule of
Mussolini, who took power in 1922, while Japan was under military leaders who took power in the
30s. Adolf Hitler took power in 1933 to rule Germany. These three leaders pledged to reinstate their
nations to prominence. However, they formed totalitarian governments (totalitarian governments are

The World Of The Second World War
The Second World War lasted from 1939 to 1945, which involved most of the world 's nations,
organized into two opposing military alliances: The Allies and the Axis. It is considered the most
extensive war, with more than 100 million armed forces assembled. The Allied forces placed their
entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort, destroying the
difference between civilian and military resources. It was the deadliest conflict in human history
(Reference), which resulted in over 70 million fatalities caused by military action against civilians,
the Holocaust and the use of nuclear weapons in warfare. This essay concerns itself with why and
how the allies won the Second World War. Joachim von ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several reasons for the transformation of Soviet fighting power and morale. Firstly, the
soviet army learned a lot from their previous encounters with the German army. The soviet air and
tanks were adjusted to copy the Germans, communication and intelligence, training for officers and
men was improved and the soviet technology was modernized to match Germany 's (reference).
Secondly, the pre–war economic planning and mobilization helped the regime to run a war on an
emergency basis, while the very large number of workers and factories allowed the soviets to
reconstruct its armaments quickly (reference). Until 1942 Stalin closely controlled the army.
Political officials of the communist party worked alongside senior officers and reported straight
back to the Kremlin, that is the Russian government housing. Stalin came to realize that political
control hold the army back and cut the amount politics influenced the army in 1942. Stalin created a
deputy supreme commander who worked under him, Marshal Zhukov, and stepped back from
conducting the war. The Soviet General Staff demonstrated that they could match the Germans on
the battlefield. It was not until later in the war that Stalin began to regain control, when victory was
in sight. Furthermore, from 1942 a flow of food and raw materials continued the Soviet war effort.
There was enough food to ensure a meal for every Soviet soldier; most of the Soviet

The World Of World War I
Prior to the beginning of World War I, the world economy was held up by four pillars: the gold
standard, free trade, communication and transportation, and capital and labor labor mobility. After
facing two world wars and a worldwide economic depression, economists and governments from
around the world implemented several development strategies. Some strategists tried to rebuild the
order from before World War I in a more flexible and stable way while others bucked the traditional
world order all together in an attempt to develop more quickly. While import–substituting
industrialization provided short term benefits and long–term problems to the nations that practiced
it, the Bretton Woods System provided sustainable economic growth to ... Show more content on

Nations that practiced ISI could never entirely eliminate their dependence on the world economy,
and ISI's bias against exports left nations with very little export revenue which could be used to pay
for things that the nation absolutely had to import. These balance of payments crises hurt domestic
economies, often leading to social unrest and coups. Compounding the problems caused by balance
of payments problems, nations which practiced ISI also tended to have high inflation rates as well as
high income–inequality caused by privileging industrialization at the expense of agricultural classes.
Ultimately, ISI nations began experiencing massive social, political, and economic problems which
stifled further development.
After World War II, the Western economic powers implemented the Bretton Woods System, an
attempt to concurrently return to, build upon, and strengthen the pre–World War I economic system.
The stringency of the Gold Standard was replaced by an economic system in which currencies were
tied together by the more flexible US dollar, which was itself backed by gold. Free trade was
reimplemented by GATT, which would later become the WTO. Under the Bretton Woods System,
the world saw an incredible amount of post–war economic growth. Jeffry Frieden points out that in
the postwar period, advanced capitalist nations "grew three times as fast as in the interwar years and
twice as fast as before World War I". The Bretton Woods System allowed for

World War I and World War II
Many people know about World War I and World War II seeing that they are a couple of the world's
most famous wars. Have you ever wondered how much you really know? This paper is here to
inform you of all of the propaganda used to persuade people to follow Hitler, the Nazi party, and
Stalin, terms that were used during this time period, and some of the very important people involved
in World War I and in World War II.
In the heat of World War I there were two groups, the Allies and the Central Powers. The Allies,
which included France, Britain and Russia, went against the Central Powers. The Russian
Revolution was also going on during this time period, which was a term that described a series of
revolutions in Russia. These series of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically Hitler was saying that if children of Germany were weak and did not conform to his
beliefs and become an ideal Nazi, the children had no chance. After Hitler came to power all of the
other youth movements were abolished. By 1933 the Hitler Youth membership was up to 100,000
members and it was seen as repulsive if a child from ages 10 through 18 were not a member.
Anti–Semitism is a prejudice belief and the hatred of a certain racial group. Anti– Semitism is a
form of racism. Anti–Semitism members expressed their feelings towards the Jewish community in
many different ways. Most showed their hatred of the Jews and discriminated individually. Others
organized extremely violent mobs, and military attacks on entire Jewish communities.
The Allied forces of World War II included the United States, Britain and the USSR. The Allies
were the countries opposing the Axis Powers. Their goal was to stop German, Italian and Japanese
aggression. The Soviet Union joined the Allied forces after being invaded by Germany and its Allies
in 1941, the United States also joined after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December of
1941. The relationship between Britain and the US were extremely close, but other key alliances
were China, Canada and India.
The Axis Powers were the nations that fought in World War II against the Allied forces. The Axis
Powers were brought together by their opposition against the Western world and the Soviet Union.

The War Of The World War I
War arises due to the ever changing relationships between several conditions. it is never provoked
by one sole cause; be it social, economic, cultural, opposing interests, etc... But it is rather caused by
an amalgamation of these particular concepts, trends, movements, or policies. Peace is an equipoise
amidst these countless forces, and at any particular time, any of these changes in forces, trends, or
movements, can make for war, while at other times they make for peace. Post World War One
Germany felt the need to redeem its sovereignty from their great loss in World War One, and to also
assert their dominance to the rest of the world. It was already on thin ice, and if it were to be broken
for any reason, it would cause humankind's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two opposing powers were the Allied forces; predominantly Great Britain (led by Neville
Chamberlain initially, then Sir Winston Churchill), Russia (led by Josef Stalin), and the USA
(initially by President Franklin Roosevelt then by President Harry Truman) and The Axis Powers;
mainly Nazi Germany (led by Adlof Hitler), Fascist Italy (led by Benito Mussolini who was Prime
Minister and Victor Emmanuel the Third who was King of Italy and the supreme head, with
Mussolini, of the Royal Italian Army) , and Japan (led by Hirohito, the Emperor, and Hideki Tojo,
the Prime Minister). The Axis powers were brought together through the contradiction towards the
Allied Forces and the Soviet
Union in order to become a master race and dominate Europe. Adolf Hitler was elected
Chancellor/Führer/Leader of Germany in 1933, Adolf Hitler lead the Nazi party with an ideology of
"racial superiority, nationalism, and destruction of all who opposed them". The ramifications of
WW1, the Treaty of Versailles in particular, inhibited Germany's capabilities (on an ambassadorial
level), and subsequently, during the 1930s, the Nazis, under Hitler's jurisdiction, failed to follow the
laws that had been laid down in 1919 by the allied forces, and when the Nazis invaded Poland in
September 1939, France and Britain officially declared war on Germany.
What followed was six years of utter upheaval. One of Hitler's predominant aims as Fuhrer of

The War Of The World War
Weapons have always been a critical factor in warfare, but in the 20th century, they became even
more important and destructive, such that the world started to create new and unimaginable
weapons, like war tanks. The idea of protecting the soldiers as well as the necessity to have vehicles
that can do more damage to the enemies in warfare and the development of industrial technologies
made war tanks possible. They became very important in warfare, especially during the Second
World War and they are still important in modern warfare. They became the world warfare solution
to keep move forward while being under fire. The British first employed tanks in September 1916
during the Battle of the Somme, where they tried to end the bloody stalemate of trench warfare on
the Western Front. The result was negative because they didn´t have sufficient training in combined
arms operations and also because the tanks were very heavy and they consumed a lot of fuel. Mainly
for these reasons, war tanks did not a critical factor in the First World War. In the Second World
War, the cavalry became obsolete and was replaced with tanks. They performed the same tasks, such
as breaking the front lines, surround the enemy and attacking from the rear, but with more
devastating results. Tanks became one of the most important weapons in combat, especially for the
Germans during their "German blitzkrieg" (lightning war), where tanks advanced quickly, surprised
the enemy and proceeded to the next battle,

The World Of The Second World War
The Second World War left the world in a very terrible state. World economies were struggling, and
the population grew, demanding a better life from its leaders. The side that won ended up dividing
the world again into two parts or more. The United States, the United Kingdom, France and West
Germany ended up forming the western bloc. Russia, or as it was called during that period, the
Soviet Union, took control of East Germany, and much of eastern Europe as part of a settlement
plan between the winning Allied forces. They were referred to as the Eastern Bloc. These two
regional groups, engaged with one another by ideology, where one side wished the world would

Technology did threaten to end the two nations at once. Historical records show the simulations of
attacks and the resulting defense measures for both sides and how at the end, not one of either
country would be victorious. Therefore both the United States and the Soviet Union continued to
explore science to come up with better ways of defeating their enemies. Technology and science
went as far as to render basic weapons useless and instead moved to improve efficiency in
operational and functional systems. Therefore, you could hear about a new detonation system that
could work with any bomb or even a better and small explosive that could be used to launched
nuclear or other mass destruction weapon components.
As the cold war progressed and with every minute being closer to war than the previous, attention
began to shift to other unexploited fields in science (Hanhimäki 673–683). Nuclear bomb
technology began to be a primary feature in military functions with sites sprouting up in equal
measure for both countries. Besides the scientific expansion began to look into other alternatives
like hydrogen bombs which were said to be more dangerous and destructive. Both nations were not
shy in the expression of their desire to destroy the other. However, the most notable move in the
race for the ultimate weapon moved to space exploration where both countries turned to space to
offer the new frontier in war. As such, Russia would build a spaceship and brag about

The War Of The World War II
Historically, the World War II is considered to be the most bloody and brutal military conflict in
mankind history. Furthermore, it is the only war in which there was use of nuclear weapons by
Americans against Japanese in 1945. In fact, it was fought by 61 countries. Start and end dates of
the war September 1, 1939 and September 2, 1945, which are among the most significant dates for
the entire civilized world. World War II began because of the imbalance of power on the planet and
the problems that had arisen as a result of the First World War, particularly disagreement on the
issue of territories. Those who won the First World War such as USA, England, and France signed

For example, the famous English historian and military theorist John Fuller unequivocally calls the
conquest of Lebensraum as the main reason the Nazis attack on the Soviet Union in his book "The
Second World War, 1939–1945.", which was published in London in 1948: "Why, then, Hitler did
not see in alliance with Russia, which could be concluded even a few years before, a much more
reliable guarantee against the war on two fronts? The answer is given in the 14th chapter of the
second volume 'Mein Kampf'. Here Hitler expresses his theory of living space so clearly and in
detail that it really surprises: why Hitler invaded Russia? ". However, the representation of Hitler as
the main author of hundreds of millions of victims in the Second World War, is clearly not satisfied
with the anti–Soviet forces of the West, under whose influence in the sixties began creeping revision
of the fundamental provisions of the Nuremberg judgment associated with changes in motivation,
which explains the reason for the attack on Soviet Union by the Nazis. In this case, military–
strategic situation that developed by June 1941 was exposed to the forefront and allegedly fraught
with the potential aggression of the foreign policy of the Soviet Union in the pre–war period but not

The War Of The World War II
Going through the different levels of the educational system most everyone has talked about the
Second World War in great detail. The European and Pacific Theaters were the main focus of many
historians and their writing, because war pertained to the audience of the time. WWII revolved
around the idea of freedom and liberating the fascist governments of Europe, the homefront back in
the states was the war machine that kept the war churning. Millions of pages have been written
about the experiences and battles during WWII, and still continue, not much in the way of the
American homefront history has been written. Classical historicism reigned supreme early after the
war, and historians saw that war was a major topic as it reflected the top down approach. This
included looking at men such as, Patton, Eisenhower, and Hitler, and also telling the more economic
side of war. As early as January, 1944 historians thought about the historiography of World War II.
In The American Historical Review, historians geared up for the writing of this history. Some
historians already thought about the American homefront. Though attempts in the 1940s were a
start, nothing in the way of homefront writing came until the 1960s. These attempts merely focused
upon how the homefront funded the war, metal production of the states, and how the American spirit
was fueled by the homefront. 1960s historians did not go into depth of these areas until the 1970's
and 1980's. Most historians were focusing on

World War II was the mightiest struggle humankind has ever seen. It killed more people, cost more
money, damaged more property, and affected more people in nearly every country than any other
war in history. It is estimated that more than 55 million people. More than 50 countries took part in
the war, and the whole world felt its effects. Men fought in almost every part of the world, on every
continent except Antarctica. Chief battlegrounds included Asia, Europe, North Africa, the Atlantic
and Pacific oceans, and the Mediterranean Sea. The United States hoped to stay out. Drawing on its
experience from World War I, Congress passed a series of Neutrality Acts between 1935 and 1939,
which were intended to prevent Americans becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most American officials agreed that the best defense against the Soviet threat was a strategy called
containment. If the United States could keep the Soviets from expanding their power in a matter of
time their system would fall apart thus beating communism without going to war. The Long
Telegram circulated widely in Truman's administration. It became the basis for the administration's
policy of containment. Truman and his advisers believed Western Europe's prosperity depended on
Germany's recovery but the Soviets still wanted Germany to pay for war debts. American officials
had decided that the Soviets were trying to undermine Germany's economy to bring them down. The
United States, Britain, and France merged their German zones and allowed the Germans to have
their own government. This merged land became known as West Germany and the Soviets land
became known as East Germany. West Germany was mostly independent but not allowed to have a
military. The creation of West Germany convinced the Soviets they would never get the reparations
they wanted. In June 1948, Soviet troops blockaded West Berlin hoping to force the United States to
reconsider its decision. In response Truman sent airplanes capable of carrying atomic weapons to
bases in Britain and requested that air force to fly supplies into Berlin rather than troops bring them
in. Even though

The War On The World
Fundamentally speaking, warfare is the means by which human society has been organized. The
modern world is divided up into a number of states whose sovereignty is based either on the results
of warfare or the threat of warfare. The ability of a states to wage and win wars is what determines
the geopolitical pecking order. Those who cannot hope to win wars alone pursue policies and deals
that ensure the intervention of more capable states in their defense, should one come about.
Domestic policies and cultural developments, as well, are understood as wars: at this very moment,
there is a War on Drugs, a War on Terror, a War on Women, a War on Poverty, even an alleged War
on Christmas. Indeed, the uneasy peace that exists between the world's current superpowers is a
result of the expected outcome of Nuclear War. The nature of war, being so essential to the shape
and nature of the world we live in, must be understood. To aid us in our own understanding of war,
we can benefit tremendously from exploring the ways in which war was practiced, understood, and
experienced by our cultural and ideological progenitors, the Greeks and Romans of Classical
Antiquity. Classical Greek warfare can be best understood through the manner in which it was
practiced: hoplite warfare. Hoplite warfare was communitarian, strictly organized and ritualistic.
This particular style of combat shaped and was shaped by the culture in which it developed. In a
traditional hoplite battle, men armed with

In 1914, a war began that would turn into one of the deadliest combats in all of human history. A
war that was fought between two alliances named the Triple Entente, consisting of Russia, France
and Great Britain, and the Triple Alliance, which consisted of Germany, Austria–Hungary, and Italy.
One of the reasons the war was so deadly was because many of the commanders and generals did
not develop the tactics at the rate at which the weapons had progressed. Artillery and Machine Guns
would decimate anyone who came over the edge of a trench, leading to millions of deaths. The old
style of face–to–face trading fire combat had become obsolete due to the invention of the automatic
and semi–automatic weapon. A single gun could now kill or injure ... Show more content on

It would cause burning of the throat and lungs, and would blind the soldiers. As many of the French
troops fell back due to the gas, the Canadian troops had a genius idea. They urinated into cloths and
handkerchiefs in order to neutralize the Chlorine Gas. Although the attack created an 8–kilometer
long gap in the defensive line, the Germans did not advance through it, since it was partially
defended by the Canadian troops. The Canadians gave the British reinforcements time to help fill in
the gap, although it was thinly defended. The Canadian troops managed to hold their ground and
keep the enemy troops from advancing. In the third Battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, a
new and even deadlier gas was introduced. The gas that is commonly called Mustard Gas was used
for the first time by German forces on the Allied forces. Mustard gas was very potent and would
cause effects that could last for days. Throughout the war, poison gas was used very effectively, with
many tens of thousands of troops dying from its effect. Santos 3 During the war, many of the
soldiers that were forced to go above the edge of the trenches were injured or killed. The strategy of
charging the enemy was extremely ineffective because of 2 weapons, the Machine Gun and
Artillery. Many of the Generals never thought to change up the tactics, and with Machine Guns

Albert Einstein, a famous physicist, once said on the topic of war, "I know not with what weapons
World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." According to
Einstein and many people even today, war is like a self–destruct button, and if pressed, the world
would be destroyed. It would be in ruins and the human race would have to start all over again.
Even though we, as humans, know this, people have fought many wars in the past, and wars still
happen around the world today. Humans overestimate the effects of this button and there has been
times in history, where we almost pressed it. An example of an important and deadly war that took

This angered many Protestants around the nation. Protestants from Austria and Bohemia fought
Ferdinand, which just ended in disaster for the Protestants. According to Britannica, "Although the
struggles that created it erupted some years earlier, the war is conventionally held to have begun in
1618, when the future Holy Roman emperor Ferdinand II, in his role as king of Bohemia, attempted
to impose Roman Catholic absolutism on his domains, and the Protestant nobles of both Bohemia
and Austria rose up in rebellion. Ferdinand won after a five–year struggle," (Britannica). Now, at
this point, the fight got serious. A Swedish king, Gustav II Adolf, won much of Germany and
influenced all the princes to follow non–Roman Catholic beliefs. Protestants took help from the
Swedish king, The United Netherlands which was trying to free itself from Spain, a Protestant rival,
and France, whose king disliked Ferdinand, and some more countries. Ferdinand didn't fight alone
either. He got help and aid from Spain, an ally and many other countries that were strictly on
Catholic beliefs. The intense war had now officially started.
For the first few years, both sides seemed equal. Although this was a fight of Protestants allowance

necessary to approach the United States for assistance When Harry S. Truman was elected president

In the 20th century there are so many different events that happened during this time. One of the
most major events that effected the world is World War II. It is an event that will never be forgotten
because of how many different countries were involved and how it affected the Jews as well. During
the war, the United States started to put up posters to get people to join the army and there were
other countries that convinced the people to invest money into the war. Without the propaganda and
the use of artwork on posters and flyers that they used to influence people in the U.S. they may have
never won the war.
One of the main countries that helped support the Allies the most out of every country is the United
States. They provided the most troops and have spent the most money on the war to help other
countries and to help the Jews. The war could not have been won without the support of the
American people fighting and investing into the war. However, people would not have supported the

A war crime is an act that constitutes a serious violation of the law of war that gives rise to
individual criminal responsibility. Examples of war crimes include intentionally killing civilians or
prisoners, torture, destroying civilian property, taking hostages, perfidy, rape, soldiers, pillaging,
declaring that no quarter will be given, and using weapons that cause superfluous injury or
unnecessary suffering. The concept of war crimes began to emerge during the end of the 19th
century and the beginning of the 20th century when the body of customary applicable to warfare
between sovereign states was codified. Such codification occurred at the national level, such as with
the publication of the Lieder Code in the United States, and at the international level with the
adoption of the treaties during the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907. Moreover, trials in
national courts during this period further helped clarify the law. Following the end of World War II,
major developments in the law occurred. Numerous trials of Axis war criminals established the
Nuremberg principles, such as notion that war crimes constituted crimes defined by international
law. Additionally, the Geneva Conventions in 1949 defined new war crimes and established that
states could exercise universal jurisdiction over such crimes. In the late 20th century and early 21st

Hitler, who was over Germany, successfully invaded Poland causing Great Britain and France to
declare war on Germany." On June 10,1940, Italy joined the war because they wanted to defeat
France. Japan joined the war because they wanted to expand in Asia and was determined to take
their land. The United States had produced resources such as oil for the Japanese. When Japan and
China were at war with each other, the United States did not support Japan and prohibited any
further resources from them. Because of this act, the Japanese grew hatred toward the United States
and decided to get revenge. December 7,1941, would go down in United States history as one of the
most tragic events to happen to them. Japan had bombed the United States naval base Pearl Harbor
in Hawaii, killing and injuring over 3,500. The bombing destroyed a lot of the United States aircraft
and destroyed all of their resources. This mournful event caused the United States to enter the war a
year after. They were ready to fight. France reached out to Germany by signing an armistice that
would hope create peace. The Armistice divided France into two parts,

The War Of World War I
Although all countries should be blamed for World War I, Germany did the most to provoke the war
to its extremes by attempting to send the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico, which would result in
conflict with the United States of America. In 1917, Germany attempted to send the Zimmerman
Telegram to Mexico, which would try to persuade them in joining their side of the war by promising
them they would help Mexico take back the territory and states they had lost in the Mexican
American War that occurred from 1846 to 1848. Since Mexico had lost around a third of their
territory from the Mexican Cession including Texas, New Mexico, and California, where gold was
discovered shortly after it was appropriated, the offer from Germany would have been too good to
ignore. Nevertheless, British cryptographers had intercepted the secret message before it was able to
reach Mexico and showed it to America. The Zimmerman Telegram spurred outraged Americans to
join the war against Germany on April 6, 1917 on the Allies' side because they were angry that
Germany would pull such a deal behind their backs. The boost of America joining the Allies' side
refreshed the Allies' morale to resume their ceaseless warfare and the war became more extreme
with the addition of the powerful nation (Lecture, 12/3/14). America's steel industry dominated any
other country in size, so they were able to provide tons of weapons and ammunition like machine
guns and tanks for the Allies. With the addition of America

Joint intentionalist and structuralists are perhaps even more applicable to the Second World War.
The Germans as a whole were embarrassed by not only their loss of the First World War, but also
the components of the Versailles Treaty, including, but not limited to the reparations and the territory
loss. Before Hitler's rise to Chancellor in 1933, he published Mein Kampf as a clear plan for the
German Reich (Copeland 121). Going along with the intentionalist theory, Mein Kampf once again
called for lebensraum for the German nationals, domestic or not, and taking back what they had lost
in Versailles (Kershaw 110). Further evidence for German long–term goals is evident by Germany's
withdrawal from the League of Nations and plan for rearmament, showing that they were planning
something of which the international community would not approve (Kershaw 116, Copeland 125).
Of course, there are also strong structuralist arguments for the outbreak of the war. While Hitler
planned for war in different stages, there was not a clear strategy that the Germans were going to
take at every given moment. After France's invasion of the Ruhr Valley to get their reparations, the
Germans could see that the British and other Allies were not going to hold them accountable
(Copeland Lecture). There was no way that they could foresee this general appeasement, but they
definitely put it to their advantage. They used this opportunity to remilitarize the Rhineland and then
take the Sudetenland

The World Of World War II
Before addressing the changes themselves, it is important to fully understand the circumstances
leading up to – and following – the launch of Sputnik 1. Following World War II, of which had
officially ended as of 1945, many of the world's previous powers –– namely Britain, France, and
Germany –– were in a state of ruin, struggling to recuperate following the bloody war. However,
despite being largely strained for economic and military resources, Britain was not finished with
challenging other nations. In British leader Winston Churchill's famous 1946 remarks regarding
communism, he spoke: "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an 'Iron Curtain' has

Thankfully for Britain, the United States was prepared to help its oversea ally through the
introduction of the Marshall Plan – a proposed effort that would provide Western Europe with
financial aid so that it may help with the reconstruction. Seemingly upset by this provision, the
Soviet Union introduced their own doctrine – the Zhdanov Doctrine – that claimed that the United
States was attempting to dominate Europe through the use of imperialism. As a response, the United
States made its official policy the "containment of Communism", thusly making the US and USSR
undeclared enemies in a war that would eventually be referred to as the "Cold War". As described by
historian Ari Cushner, the Cold War was a global, political, and ideological struggle between the
United States and the USSR. Despite what the name may imply, the "cold" in Cold War does not
refer to temperature –– rather, the "cold" refers to the war never being a "hot", direct shooting war
between the two combatants. And indeed, the Cold War was anything but direct. The "war" can
largely be defined as an era of heated tension and anger–fueled competition, rather than a bloody
series of encounters. Due to it not being a "traditional" war, there is no exact start and end date for
the Cold War, but several historians such as Cushner claim it began in 1947 (following the Zhdanov
Doctrine) and ended in 1991 (when the Soviet

The World Of World War II
World War II has been considered one of the worst things to ever occur in history. Violence, death
and aggression took place in the 1930s and 1940s in certain European nations. German leader, Hitler
played an important, yet a very big role during this time. With the rise and domination of fascism in
Germany and Italy, the goal was to maintain peace, established by the Treaty of Versailles ended up
in major disaster. World War II began with the poor economic conditions in Europe after World War
I and the confrontation of clashing forms of governments and in the end it brought about positive
and negative changes of the world. World War II began on September 1st, 1939 when Germany
invaded Poland; this invasion led to the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, The Great Depression, and
the Holocaust. World War II began when Germany invaded Poland when Hitler tried convincing
Britain and France that the invasion was a defensive act by bringing living space for the Germans
but Britain and France was not convinced. "Hitler gave orders for the Poland invasion to begin on
August 26, but on August 25 he delayed the attack when he learned that Britain had signed a new
Long 2 treaty with Poland, promising military support should it be attacked." ("Germans Invade
Poland.") World War II had gotten more than 50 countries to be a part of the Allies who were against
the Axis. These countries were led by Great Britain, The Soviet Union, France, China and The

The War Of The World War
War has been one of the strongest words in the English dictionary that represented the bravery of the
American people. Our nation had been branded by other countries to be the nation that is brave
enough to spread our political influences to the peripheral countries, even if military forces is
required. The word war brings pride to the American people due to all the international conflicts that
our nation had conquered over history. As it is said in our national anthem, "And the rockets' red
glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there..." (Key).
The spirit of war revolved around our nation's history. In contrast, the word war brings great sadness
to the ones that have lost a loved one and to the citizens that had been forced out of their will during
the military draft that occurred for the duration of the Second World War. Joseph Heller, an
American citizen during the mid–1900s, experienced the Second World War at a young age and the
postwar situations during his middle–adulthood (Heller). With that being said, Heller's works are
heavily influenced by his life experiences. Through summarization and deconstruction of the text,
the school of criticism can highlight the current events that was taking place or took place while the
work of literature was being written. Joseph Heller wrote numerous novels throughout his entire
life. The novel that stood out the most was his famous novel, Catch–22. Catch–22 is a story of an

The War Of World War II
I. Introduction
World War II was the second major war that broke out across the world. It was fought between the
Axis Powers and the Allied Powers. The Axis Powers originally consisted of Germany, Italy, Japan,
and later were joined by Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania. The Allied Powers were the United
States, Britain, France, Soviet Union, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece,
Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia. The United States
involvement in World War II lead to many changes overseas and at home. One of the greatest
changes that occurred for the U.S. centered on how the war altered women's roles and how children
were affected by these changes.
1Before World War II women were not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6Men leaving for war allowed for an incline of women in the workforce. 7During the war "the
percentage of women in the American work force had expanded from 25 percent to 36 percent"
("History"). 8Many women came into workforce for the first time. 9To help win the war effort,
many changes needed to happen.
1World War II was a widely known conflict. 2It was one of the largest international struggle in
history. 3The United States had many people involved in the war. 4Due to this, "few families were
untouched by the war" (Horton). 5This military conflict caused much devastation to households
because of the extensive national involvement. 6However without the mass numbers of Americans
involved, the outcome may have changed.
On the home front children's lives were changed due to having parents off fighting war. Also, for the
first time women on the military went to war, this freed men to fill more important roles in the
military, and also forced them to leave their families in the United States.
II. Argument One – Changes on the Home front for Women and Children
1Many things changed during the war years in both lifestyle and work. 2Various programs were put
into place to help with adjustments associated with war life. 3The war outbreak caused changes in
the availability of everyday essentials along with different obstacles that women and children had to

World War 2 was a huge turning point in history, that fixed most of the things related to wars that
World War 1 was supposed to do but did not. There were many differences between the attitude of
the US in World War 1, and their attitude in World War 2, mainly due to what happened in between
the wars. Unlike World War 1, the second World War, was not about proving a point in the
American's case, but instead revenge for what had happened in between. In the process, the attitude
of the American people towards war changed dramatically from the end of World War 1, to the end

The 1920s in America, can be divided into two different parts. The first being the boom itself, and
the other being the problems that indirectly lead to the catastrophic 30s. "The 1920s was a period
that saw the deep south being urbanized, thus moving away from ordinary farming, to factories.
This also included the great migration, which saw many african american moving the upper north
states like New York, creating what was known as the harlem renaissance in Harlem, New York. A
lot of the current big money places like LA and Chicago started their boom in the 20s." While many
great things happened in the 1920s many questionable things also happened in the decade. For
example, in 1924, "the evil racists political group from the post civil war era, known as the Ku Klux
Klan or the KKK, reorganized as a racist–nativist group who opposed anyone who was not an
american born white protestant. They successfully got the government to block immigrants from
entering the country, as to lessen the fear of communism spreading." The Problems associated with
the KKK and immigration, indirectly lead to the great depression seen in the 1930s.
The backend of the 1920s, saw the US transition from greatest boom to the greatest recession,
known as the great depression. The 1920s was all about the credit system. "This credit system did

The World Of World War 2
World War 2 was one of the most catastrophic events in human history. With millions dying in very
few years, the destruction has left a scar on nations that is still visible in the present day. One of the
most terrifying nations back during the days of war was Japan. Their culture promoted war, fighting,
and being as ruthless as possible, causing them to be an extreme threat to world peace. The military
looked into ancient myths about the Japanese, and the Emperor in particular, as they were said to be
directly related to the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. The nation and military of Japan wanted
to bring racial and spiritual purity into the world, and as Laurence Rees put it, "The Japanese had
been 'brainwashed' for centuries". The war in the Japanese front took longer to end, and many
speculate that if the United States had not created the atom bomb, the war in Asia would have lasted
many more years. The answers for this prolongation is rooted deep in Japanese culture and history.
There are many strange examples and acts from the Japanese military during World War 2. For
example, not a single soldier would ever surrender as POW. Due to rules by the military and the
indoctrination of beliefs, soldiers would refuse to accept defeat. This had roots in the government as
well, and the Emperor of Japan along with the rest of the government refused surrender even when
defeat was apparent. The interpretation of Japanese social, military, and historical culture caused

After the last great global conflict, the Second World War was the most extensive and lethal war in
history, which involved more than 30 countries. It marked more than 50 million military and civilian
deaths. Though dumbfounded by the events of December 7, Americans were also determined.
President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war against Japan On December 8. The declaration
passed with just one rebel vote. After three days, Germany and Italy, connected with Japan, declared
war on the United States. America was involved into a global war. Great Britain and the Soviet
Union were in allies in this fight. The job the nation faced in December 1941 was daunting. During
World War II, some 350,000 women made a huge job both at home and abroad in the U.S. There is
one thing that states: In World War II there were believe that women became skilled of all kind of
roles in the workforce in society, and that was permanently impressed on the public awareness.
Even though the World War II made significant change in women's life; however, it did not
necessarily bring new employment, military, and civil rights opportunities to black women compare
with white Americans. Moreover, while white American women in military and other area also
shared a history of discrimination based on gender, African American faced as well as gender and
race discrimination. Primarily forbidden that African American women obstinately kept on their

War On The Second World War
War is one of the most dreadful matter in our world today. We have grown up watching news on
wars on television channels and news. I am from a country called Bangladesh, where we fought for
victory to save our country through a nine months bloody war. And, now we see all this war around
different countries in news channels, and newspapers, killing of innocent people. War has nothing to
do with killing innocent citizens of a country. The main purpose of war is to fight against one
another to protect themselves, but instead of protecting they put the life of innocent people of their
country in danger. In our history, we have already had two immense wars. These wars were the
World Wars, simply because they involved most of the vast countries of the world, which made
history. The Second World War was perhaps the most significant period of the 20th century. It is a
very huge topic to discuss about. Many writers wrote books on the Second World War. Some writers
emphasized on the cause, some emphasized on the effects. "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" is
a book on the Second World War written by William L Shirer. Shirer is an American Journalist and a
war columnist. This book is written based on Shirer's own experience while he was living in
Germany during the early years of the Third Reich. William Lawrence Shirer was born in Chicago
in February 23, 1904. His father was a lawyer and served as an assistant United States District

Causes of the World Wars World War I and World War II both had devastating effects worldwide,
and were major turning points in History. Even today we still feel the impact of these terrible
conflicts. These conflicts had many similarities in how they began, but they also had their
differences. Europe was dominated by feelings of nationalism in the early 1900s. The German
government felt that it was in charge of Europe, mainly because of the enormous growth it had gone
through in recent decades. The Germans wanted to continue their growth, and establish colonies.
Colonies would supply Germany with the resources needed to maintain their army and give
Germany a higher status. However, Britain had control over the ocean and it was not about to let

As nations grew in power, they were offered territory as appeasement. Most notably Hitler was
given Czechoslovakia. Fear of communism made people less critical of him and made some
politicians more sympathetic to his demands. Many also thought that the treaty of Versailles had
been too harsh on Germany and that it should regain some territory. The British Prime Minister
Chamberlain was a strong supporter of this tactic, and he ended up handing Hitler territory and
preventing nothing. He believed the only way to prevent a war was to appease Hitler, but he ended
up realizing he was incredibly wrong. Nothing even resembling this appeared preceding WWI. The
causes of both World Wars were similar in many ways but they also had several key differences.
One notable difference was the presence of alliances in World War I, replaced with isolationism in
World War II. But even if they had different causes, they both evolved into bloody, drawn out

World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It led to millions of deaths, and
devastation across the world. Nazi Germany took control of many European countries, and Japan
declared war on the United States. American soldiers were deployed and took action to protect the
nation. The United States was in a constant limbo between being safe, and having war on its
doorstep. Life for citizens, in the United States and other countries, was affected tremendously by
the war, and has shaped the way we view war today. It has changed the way people think about war,
and how they react. Life during World War II, explained in Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, have
shaped how the world approaches war and how it's devastating events have affected people to this
day. A class at The University of California, Irvine made it their mission to collect stories from
World War II survivors and documents them for future use. The class advertised an organization
meeting, where six of the ten people they interviewed showed up. They spoke to one man who said
the class had better begin quickly because their subjects would not be around much longer. (Oberts)

of USSR, France, and US. The axis powers, which consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan, would
try and bomb the allied powers into surrender. This brutal war would go on for nearly five and a half
years, finally ending on May 8, 1945. The end of the war marked both celebration and mourning.
For Great Britain some major turning points during the war were the Battle of Britain, and the
invasion scare. Many families had to make sacrifices during the war, some of them life changing.
The people of Great Britain refused to go to war and were in denial, many of them would not listen
to future Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Churchill warned the people about Hitler and Nazi
Germany . Because of everybody's fear of the war, Britain was not prepared when it came time for
the country to enter the war. After World War I, Great Britain wanted to avoid any war at all costs.
At the time, Neville Chamberlain was the Prime minister of Great Britain and he wanted to keep
peace throughout the country. After the first world war, Chamberlain primarily focused on being in
the League of Nations and that led to the deterioration of his armed forces and turn the focus to the
inside of the country. The League of Nations was founded after World War I and it was there to
ensure that war never broke out again .

The War Of The World War I
It's been over a century since Austria declared war on Serbia. The assassination of Archduke Francis
Ferdinand, in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, sparked a war that was to end all others. It clearly did not.
Countless wars and conflicts have been fought since, each evolving into something different than
the last. As a result, modern warfare has evolved into something completely different than that of a
century ago. Although war is fought for fundamentally the same reasons, warfare, as it is practiced
today, is different from that of World War I. This is primarily due to the rise of counterinsurgency
operations, the focus on air superiority and the use of technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles,
which have led to the decline of mass army against army war. Characterized by the declaration of
war, the amassing of vast battlefield formations, and the use of new technologies, such as the
machine gun and airplane, World War I was the epitome of conventional war. The myriad of
alliances across Europe in the early 20th century allowed military leaders to carefully craft offensive
plans of war focused on the weaknesses of known enemies and designed to swiftly defeat opposing
military forces. For example, Germany's Schlieffen Plan "assumed that the Reich could only win a
two–front war by crushing France before Russia could mobilize." Capitalizing on the lightly
defended French north, a result of France's assumption that Belgium's neutrality would not be
violated, and

The War Of The World War II
Of all the years the human race has occupied this planet, we have not come face to face with many
events that could bring so many people together while simultaneously tearing them apart–– World
War II is one of those events. While the beginning is not set in stone, many will argue that the war
all started with the unwarranted German attack on Poland in September of 1939. As tensions rose
between countries, conflict began to swell. Over 20 countries were involved, and alliances were
established. The war was fought between two major alliances; the Allied powers and the Axis
powers. The Allied powers consisted of the following major countries: France, Great Britain,
Russia, and the United States. The Axis powers were Italy, Japan, and Germany. World War II
involved more nations, cost more money, and killed more people than any war before its time. The
American–English dictionary defines total war as "[a] war that is unrestricted in terms of the
weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in
which the laws of war are disregarded." To say World War II was not a total war would be nonsense.
World War II can be considered the quintessential modern total war by both its physical and
ideological scale. It was a war of ideas, a war of losses, and a war of gains; but over all, it was a war
of total involvement. It ripped the world apart, and mankind was shook to its foundation. Every
single world power in the 1940s was directly

The World Of World War II

  • 1. The World Of World War II World War II The world has experienced many wars. However, two of them have particularly influenced the world history, World War I and World War II. However, the most pronounced among the two is World War II. World War II was a global war, which took place between 1939 and 1945. This war grew out of issues left unresolved by earlier conflicts of World War I. It involved virtually every part of the world. The primary combatants were the Axis powers– Germany, Italy and Japan and the Allies– France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union and China. WW II was the most prevalent historical war, which involved over 100 million people from approximately 30 countries. Characterized by mass civilian deaths, including the Holocaust as ... However, the peace agreements that led to the end of WW I did not bring safety and democracy to the world, but rather caused bitterness, alongside with anger that initiated WW II. Initially, Germany, with its allies lost in WW I. Particularly, it has lost a sixth of its territory, in addition to being forced to pay colossal recompenses. Thus after WW I, Germany had to tackle issues of high level of unemployment together with uncontrollable inflations. The German currency lost almost all its value, and this led to many Germans fuming with anger at the peace treaty. A Confederation of Nations was formed after WW I to peace. However, the U.S was not involved, and other states were extremely busy to think about Germany, alongside other trouble spots. Consequently, in 1930s, an economic depression hit the world and led to the loss of jobs, falling of trade, and times became extremely hard. Thus, people went about in search of leaders that could initiate change. At that time, Italy, Japan, and Germany were under the leadership of dictators. Italy was under the rule of Mussolini, who took power in 1922, while Japan was under military leaders who took power in the 30s. Adolf Hitler took power in 1933 to rule Germany. These three leaders pledged to reinstate their nations to prominence. However, they formed totalitarian governments (totalitarian governments are run by one political party that does not permit any opposition, in addition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The World Of The Second World War The Second World War lasted from 1939 to 1945, which involved most of the world 's nations, organized into two opposing military alliances: The Allies and the Axis. It is considered the most extensive war, with more than 100 million armed forces assembled. The Allied forces placed their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort, destroying the difference between civilian and military resources. It was the deadliest conflict in human history (Reference), which resulted in over 70 million fatalities caused by military action against civilians, the Holocaust and the use of nuclear weapons in warfare. This essay concerns itself with why and how the allies won the Second World War. Joachim von ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several reasons for the transformation of Soviet fighting power and morale. Firstly, the soviet army learned a lot from their previous encounters with the German army. The soviet air and tanks were adjusted to copy the Germans, communication and intelligence, training for officers and men was improved and the soviet technology was modernized to match Germany 's (reference). Secondly, the pre–war economic planning and mobilization helped the regime to run a war on an emergency basis, while the very large number of workers and factories allowed the soviets to reconstruct its armaments quickly (reference). Until 1942 Stalin closely controlled the army. Political officials of the communist party worked alongside senior officers and reported straight back to the Kremlin, that is the Russian government housing. Stalin came to realize that political control hold the army back and cut the amount politics influenced the army in 1942. Stalin created a deputy supreme commander who worked under him, Marshal Zhukov, and stepped back from conducting the war. The Soviet General Staff demonstrated that they could match the Germans on the battlefield. It was not until later in the war that Stalin began to regain control, when victory was in sight. Furthermore, from 1942 a flow of food and raw materials continued the Soviet war effort. There was enough food to ensure a meal for every Soviet soldier; most of the Soviet ... • 3. The World Of World War I Prior to the beginning of World War I, the world economy was held up by four pillars: the gold standard, free trade, communication and transportation, and capital and labor labor mobility. After facing two world wars and a worldwide economic depression, economists and governments from around the world implemented several development strategies. Some strategists tried to rebuild the order from before World War I in a more flexible and stable way while others bucked the traditional world order all together in an attempt to develop more quickly. While import–substituting industrialization provided short term benefits and long–term problems to the nations that practiced it, the Bretton Woods System provided sustainable economic growth to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nations that practiced ISI could never entirely eliminate their dependence on the world economy, and ISI's bias against exports left nations with very little export revenue which could be used to pay for things that the nation absolutely had to import. These balance of payments crises hurt domestic economies, often leading to social unrest and coups. Compounding the problems caused by balance of payments problems, nations which practiced ISI also tended to have high inflation rates as well as high income–inequality caused by privileging industrialization at the expense of agricultural classes. Ultimately, ISI nations began experiencing massive social, political, and economic problems which stifled further development. After World War II, the Western economic powers implemented the Bretton Woods System, an attempt to concurrently return to, build upon, and strengthen the pre–World War I economic system. The stringency of the Gold Standard was replaced by an economic system in which currencies were tied together by the more flexible US dollar, which was itself backed by gold. Free trade was reimplemented by GATT, which would later become the WTO. Under the Bretton Woods System, the world saw an incredible amount of post–war economic growth. Jeffry Frieden points out that in the postwar period, advanced capitalist nations "grew three times as fast as in the interwar years and twice as fast as before World War I". The Bretton Woods System allowed for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper is here to inform you of all of the propaganda used to persuade people to follow Hitler, the Nazi party, and Stalin, terms that were used during this time period, and some of the very important people involved in World War I and in World War II. In the heat of World War I there were two groups, the Allies and the Central Powers. The Allies, which included France, Britain and Russia, went against the Central Powers. Others organized extremely violent mobs, and military attacks on entire Jewish communities. The Allied forces of World War II included the United States, Britain and the USSR. The Allies were the countries opposing the Axis Powers. Their goal was to stop German, Italian and Japanese aggression. The Soviet Union joined the Allied forces after being invaded by Germany and its Allies in 1941, the United States also joined after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. The relationship between Britain and the US were extremely close, but other key alliances were China, Canada and India. The War Of The World War I War arises due to the ever changing relationships between several conditions. it is never provoked by one sole cause; be it social, economic, cultural, opposing interests, etc... But it is rather caused by an amalgamation of these particular concepts, trends, movements, or policies. Peace is an equipoise amidst these countless forces, and at any particular time, any of these changes in forces, trends, or movements, can make for war, while at other times they make for peace. • 6. The War Of The World War Weapons have always been a critical factor in warfare, but in the 20th century, they became even more important and destructive, such that the world started to create new and unimaginable weapons, like war tanks. The idea of protecting the soldiers as well as the necessity to have vehicles that can do more damage to the enemies in warfare and the development of industrial technologies made war tanks possible. They became very important in warfare, especially during the Second World War and they are still important in modern warfare. They became the world warfare solution to keep move forward while being under fire. The British first employed tanks in September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme, where they tried to end the bloody stalemate of trench warfare on the Western Front. The result was negative because they didn´t have sufficient training in combined arms operations and also because the tanks were very heavy and they consumed a lot of fuel. Mainly for these reasons, war tanks did not a critical factor in the First World War. In the Second World War, the cavalry became obsolete and was replaced with tanks. They performed the same tasks, such as breaking the front lines, surround the enemy and attacking from the rear, but with more devastating results. Tanks became one of the most important weapons in combat, especially for the Germans during their "German blitzkrieg" (lightning war), where tanks advanced quickly, surprised the enemy and proceeded to the next battle, ... World economies were struggling, and the population grew, demanding a better life from its leaders. The side that won ended up dividing the world again into two parts or more. The United States, the United Kingdom, France and West Germany ended up forming the western bloc. Russia, or as it was called during that period, the Soviet Union, took control of East Germany, and much of eastern Europe as part of a settlement plan between the winning Allied forces. They were referred to as the Eastern Bloc. Historical records show the simulations of attacks and the resulting defense measures for both sides and how at the end, not one of either country would be victorious. Therefore both the United States and the Soviet Union continued to explore science to come up with better ways of defeating their enemies. Technology and science went as far as to render basic weapons useless and instead moved to improve efficiency in operational and functional systems. Therefore, you could hear about a new detonation system that could work with any bomb or even a better and small explosive that could be used to launched nuclear or other mass destruction weapon components. As the cold war progressed and with every minute being closer to war than the previous, attention began to shift to other unexploited fields in science (Hanhimäki 673–683). Nuclear bomb technology began to be a primary feature in military functions with sites sprouting up in equal measure for both countries. Besides the scientific expansion began to look into other alternatives like hydrogen bombs which were said to be more dangerous and destructive. Both nations were not shy in the expression of their desire to destroy the other. However, the most notable move in the race for the ultimate weapon moved to space exploration where both countries turned to space to offer the new frontier in war. Start and end dates of the war September 1, 1939 and September 2, 1945, which are among the most significant dates for the entire civilized world. World War II began because of the imbalance of power on the planet and the problems that had arisen as a result of the First World War, particularly disagreement on the issue of territories. For example, the famous English historian and military theorist John Fuller unequivocally calls the conquest of Lebensraum as the main reason the Nazis attack on the Soviet Union in his book "The Second World War, 1939–1945.", which was published in London in 1948: "Why, then, Hitler did not see in alliance with Russia, which could be concluded even a few years before, a much more reliable guarantee against the war on two fronts? The answer is given in the 14th chapter of the second volume 'Mein Kampf'. Here Hitler expresses his theory of living space so clearly and in detail that it really surprises: why Hitler invaded Russia? ". However, the representation of Hitler as the main author of hundreds of millions of victims in the Second World War, is clearly not satisfied with the anti–Soviet forces of the West, under whose influence in the sixties began creeping revision of the fundamental provisions of the Nuremberg judgment associated with changes in motivation, which explains the reason for the attack on Soviet Union by the Nazis. In this case, military– strategic situation that developed by June 1941 was exposed to the forefront and allegedly fraught with the potential aggression of the foreign policy of the Soviet Union in the pre–war period but not programmatic positions of Nazi concepts of that ... • 9. The War Of The World War II Going through the different levels of the educational system most everyone has talked about the Second World War in great detail. The European and Pacific Theaters were the main focus of many historians and their writing, because war pertained to the audience of the time. WWII revolved around the idea of freedom and liberating the fascist governments of Europe, the homefront back in the states was the war machine that kept the war churning. Millions of pages have been written about the experiences and battles during WWII, and still continue, not much in the way of the American homefront history has been written. Classical historicism reigned supreme early after the war, and historians saw that war was a major topic as it reflected the top down approach. This included looking at men such as, Patton, Eisenhower, and Hitler, and also telling the more economic side of war. As early as January, 1944 historians thought about the historiography of World War II. In The American Historical Review, historians geared up for the writing of this history. Some historians already thought about the American homefront. Though attempts in the 1940s were a start, nothing in the way of homefront writing came until the 1960s. If the United States could keep the Soviets from expanding their power in a matter of time their system would fall apart thus beating communism without going to war. The Long Telegram circulated widely in Truman's administration. It became the basis for the administration's policy of containment. Truman and his advisers believed Western Europe's prosperity depended on Germany's recovery but the Soviets still wanted Germany to pay for war debts. American officials had decided that the Soviets were trying to undermine Germany's economy to bring them down. The United States, Britain, and France merged their German zones and allowed the Germans to have their own government. This merged land became known as West Germany and the Soviets land became known as East Germany. West Germany was mostly independent but not allowed to have a military. The creation of West Germany convinced the Soviets they would never get the reparations they wanted. In June 1948, Soviet troops blockaded West Berlin hoping to force the United States to reconsider its decision. In response Truman sent airplanes capable of carrying atomic weapons to bases in Britain and requested that air force to fly supplies into Berlin rather than troops bring them in. Even though ... • 11. The War On The World Fundamentally speaking, warfare is the means by which human society has been organized. The modern world is divided up into a number of states whose sovereignty is based either on the results of warfare or the threat of warfare. The ability of a states to wage and win wars is what determines the geopolitical pecking order. Those who cannot hope to win wars alone pursue policies and deals that ensure the intervention of more capable states in their defense, should one come about. Domestic policies and cultural developments, as well, are understood as wars: at this very moment, there is a War on Drugs, a War on Terror, a War on Women, a War on Poverty, even an alleged War on Christmas. Indeed, the uneasy peace that exists between the world's current superpowers is a result of the expected outcome of Nuclear War. The nature of war, being so essential to the shape and nature of the world we live in, must be understood. To aid us in our own understanding of war, we can benefit tremendously from exploring the ways in which war was practiced, understood, and experienced by our cultural and ideological progenitors, the Greeks and Romans of Classical Antiquity. Classical Greek warfare can be best understood through the manner in which it was practiced: hoplite warfare. Hoplite warfare was communitarian, strictly organized and ritualistic. This particular style of combat shaped and was shaped by the culture in which it developed. In a traditional hoplite battle, men armed with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A war that was fought between two alliances named the Triple Entente, consisting of Russia, France and Great Britain, and the Triple Alliance, which consisted of Germany, Austria–Hungary, and Italy. One of the reasons the war was so deadly was because many of the commanders and generals did not develop the tactics at the rate at which the weapons had progressed. Artillery and Machine Guns would decimate anyone who came over the edge of a trench, leading to millions of deaths. The old style of face–to–face trading fire combat had become obsolete due to the invention of the automatic and semi–automatic weapon. A single gun could now kill or injure ... Although the attack created an 8–kilometer long gap in the defensive line, the Germans did not advance through it, since it was partially defended by the Canadian troops. The Canadians gave the British reinforcements time to help fill in the gap, although it was thinly defended. The Canadian troops managed to hold their ground and keep the enemy troops from advancing. In the third Battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, a new and even deadlier gas was introduced. The gas that is commonly called Mustard Gas was used for the first time by German forces on the Allied forces. Mustard gas was very potent and would cause effects that could last for days. Throughout the war, poison gas was used very effectively, with many tens of thousands of troops dying from its effect. The War Of The World War II Albert Einstein, a famous physicist, once said on the topic of war, "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." It would be in ruins and the human race would have to start all over again. Even though we, as humans, know this, people have fought many wars in the past, and wars still happen around the world today. Examples of war crimes include intentionally killing civilians or prisoners, torture, destroying civilian property, taking hostages, perfidy, rape, soldiers, pillaging, declaring that no quarter will be given, and using weapons that cause superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering. The concept of war crimes began to emerge during the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century when the body of customary applicable to warfare between sovereign states was codified. Such codification occurred at the national level, such as with the publication of the Lieder Code in the United States, and at the international level with the adoption of the treaties during the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907. Moreover, trials in national courts during this period further helped clarify the law. Following the end of World War II, major developments in the law occurred. Numerous trials of Axis war criminals established the Nuremberg principles, such as notion that war crimes constituted crimes defined by international law. Additionally, the Geneva Conventions in 1949 defined new war crimes and established that states could exercise universal jurisdiction over such crimes. The War Of World War I Although all countries should be blamed for World War I, Germany did the most to provoke the war to its extremes by attempting to send the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico, which would result in conflict with the United States of America. In 1917, Germany attempted to send the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico, which would try to persuade them in joining their side of the war by promising them they would help Mexico take back the territory and states they had lost in the Mexican American War that occurred from 1846 to 1848. Since Mexico had lost around a third of their territory from the Mexican Cession including Texas, New Mexico, and California, where gold was discovered shortly after it was appropriated, the offer from Germany would have been too good to ignore. Nevertheless, British cryptographers had intercepted the secret message before it was able to reach Mexico and showed it to America. The Zimmerman Telegram spurred outraged Americans to join the war against Germany on April 6, 1917 on the Allies' side because they were angry that Germany would pull such a deal behind their backs. The boost of America joining the Allies' side refreshed the Allies' morale to resume their ceaseless warfare and the war became more extreme with the addition of the powerful nation (Lecture, 12/3/14). The Germans as a whole were embarrassed by not only their loss of the First World War, but also the components of the Versailles Treaty, including, but not limited to the reparations and the territory loss. Before Hitler's rise to Chancellor in 1933, he published Mein Kampf as a clear plan for the German Reich (Copeland 121). Going along with the intentionalist theory, Mein Kampf once again called for lebensraum for the German nationals, domestic or not, and taking back what they had lost in Versailles (Kershaw 110). Further evidence for German long–term goals is evident by Germany's withdrawal from the League of Nations and plan for rearmament, showing that they were planning something of which the international community would not approve (Kershaw 116, Copeland 125). Of course, there are also strong structuralist arguments for the outbreak of the war. While Hitler planned for war in different stages, there was not a clear strategy that the Germans were going to take at every given moment. After France's invasion of the Ruhr Valley to get their reparations, the Germans could see that the British and other Allies were not going to hold them accountable (Copeland Lecture). There was no way that they could foresee this general appeasement, but they definitely put it to their advantage. Seemingly upset by this provision, the Soviet Union introduced their own doctrine – the Zhdanov Doctrine – that claimed that the United States was attempting to dominate Europe through the use of imperialism. As a response, the United States made its official policy the "containment of Communism", thusly making the US and USSR undeclared enemies in a war that would eventually be referred to as the "Cold War". As described by historian Ari Cushner, the Cold War was a global, political, and ideological struggle between the United States and the USSR. Despite what the name may imply, the "cold" in Cold War does not refer to temperature –– rather, the "cold" refers to the war never being a "hot", direct shooting war between the two combatants. And indeed, the Cold War was anything but direct. The "war" can largely be defined as an era of heated tension and anger–fueled competition, rather than a bloody series of encounters. Our nation had been branded by other countries to be the nation that is brave enough to spread our political influences to the peripheral countries, even if military forces is required. The word war brings pride to the American people due to all the international conflicts that our nation had conquered over history. As it is said in our national anthem, "And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there..." (Key). The spirit of war revolved around our nation's history. In contrast, the word war brings great sadness to the ones that have lost a loved one and to the citizens that had been forced out of their will during the military draft that occurred for the duration of the Second World War. Joseph Heller, an American citizen during the mid–1900s, experienced the Second World War at a young age and the postwar situations during his middle–adulthood (Heller). With that being said, Heller's works are heavily influenced by his life experiences. Through summarization and deconstruction of the text, the school of criticism can highlight the current events that was taking place or took place while the work of literature was being written. With millions dying in very few years, the destruction has left a scar on nations that is still visible in the present day. One of the most terrifying nations back during the days of war was Japan. Their culture promoted war, fighting, and being as ruthless as possible, causing them to be an extreme threat to world peace. The military looked into ancient myths about the Japanese, and the Emperor in particular, as they were said to be directly related to the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. The nation and military of Japan wanted to bring racial and spiritual purity into the world, and as Laurence Rees put it, "The Japanese had been 'brainwashed' for centuries". The war in the Japanese front took longer to end, and many speculate that if the United States had not created the atom bomb, the war in Asia would have lasted many more years. The answers for this prolongation is rooted deep in Japanese culture and history. There are many strange examples and acts from the Japanese military during World War 2. For example, not a single soldier would ever surrender as POW. Due to rules by the military and the indoctrination of beliefs, soldiers would refuse to accept defeat. World Wars: Causes Of World War II Ignacio Altamiranda AP Language and Composition Mr. Chesbro 11/15/15 Causes of the World Wars World War I and World War II both had devastating effects worldwide, and were major turning points in History. Even today we still feel the impact of these terrible conflicts. These conflicts had many similarities in how they began, but they also had their differences. Europe was dominated by feelings of nationalism in the early 1900s. The German government felt that it was in charge of Europe, mainly because of the enormous growth it had gone through in recent decades. The Germans wanted to continue their growth, and establish colonies. Colonies would supply Germany with the resources needed to maintain their army and give Germany a higher status. As nations grew in power, they were offered territory as appeasement. Most notably Hitler was given Czechoslovakia. Fear of communism made people less critical of him and made some politicians more sympathetic to his demands. Many also thought that the treaty of Versailles had been too harsh on Germany and that it should regain some territory. The British Prime Minister Chamberlain was a strong supporter of this tactic, and he ended up handing Hitler territory and preventing nothing. He believed the only way to prevent a war was to appease Hitler, but he ended up realizing he was incredibly wrong. Nothing even resembling this appeared preceding WWI. The causes of both World Wars were similar in many ways but they also had several key differences. One notable difference was the presence of alliances in World War I, replaced with isolationism in World War II. But even if they had different causes, they both evolved into bloody, drawn out conflicts that took a massive amount of lives, and left their mark on Europe for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The War Of World War II September 3, 1939 was the day that many people's lives changed. That is date of which Great Britain entered World War II. Great Britain would fight alongside the allied powers, which consisted of USSR, France, and US. The axis powers, which consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan, would try and bomb the allied powers into surrender. This brutal war would go on for nearly five and a half years, finally ending on May 8, 1945. The end of the war marked both celebration and mourning. For Great Britain some major turning points during the war were the Battle of Britain, and the invasion scare. Many families had to make sacrifices during the war, some of them life changing. The people of Great Britain refused to go to war and were in denial, many of them would not listen to future Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Churchill warned the people about Hitler and Nazi Germany . Because of everybody's fear of the war, Britain was not prepared when it came time for the country to enter the war. After World War I, Great Britain wanted to avoid any war at all costs. At the time, Neville Chamberlain was the Prime minister of Great Britain and he wanted to keep peace throughout the country. • 39. The War Of The World War I It's been over a century since Austria declared war on Serbia. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, sparked a war that was to end all others. It clearly did not. Countless wars and conflicts have been fought since, each evolving into something different than the last. As a result, modern warfare has evolved into something completely different than that of a century ago. Although war is fought for fundamentally the same reasons, warfare, as it is practiced today, is different from that of World War I. This is primarily due to the rise of counterinsurgency operations, the focus on air superiority and the use of technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles, which have led to the decline of mass army against army war. Characterized by the declaration of war, the amassing of vast battlefield formations, and the use of new technologies, such as the machine gun and airplane, World War I was the epitome of conventional war. The myriad of alliances across Europe in the early 20th century allowed military leaders to carefully craft offensive plans of war focused on the weaknesses of known enemies and designed to swiftly defeat opposing military forces. For example, Germany's Schlieffen Plan "assumed that the Reich could only win a two–front war by crushing France before Russia could mobilize." Capitalizing on the lightly defended French north, a result of France's assumption that Belgium's neutrality would not be violated, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The War Of The World War II Of all the years the human race has occupied this planet, we have not come face to face with many events that could bring so many people together while simultaneously tearing them apart–– World War II is one of those events. While the beginning is not set in stone, many will argue that the war all started with the unwarranted German attack on Poland in September of 1939. As tensions rose between countries, conflict began to swell. Over 20 countries were involved, and alliances were established. The war was fought between two major alliances; the Allied powers and the Axis powers. The Allied powers consisted of the following major countries: France, Great Britain, Russia, and the United States. The Axis powers were Italy, Japan, and Germany. World War II involved more nations, cost more money, and killed more people than any war before its time. The American–English dictionary defines total war as "[a] war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded." To say World War II was not a total war would be nonsense. World War II can be considered the quintessential modern total war by both its physical and ideological scale. It was a war of ideas, a war of losses, and a war of gains; but over all, it was a war of total involvement. It ripped the world apart, and mankind was shook to its foundation. Every single world power in the 1940s was directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
