1. INTRODUCTION
World War II is a war fought from 1939 until 1945, in which Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, the United States, China and some other allies defeated Germany, Italy and Japan, due to certain reasons that will be discussed as we move on.
Briefly, The World War II began in Europe in 3rd September 1939, when the Britain’s Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain declares war on Germany. This war involved many world countries and it ended in summer 1945. It was estimated that more than 50 million people died due to the war. Basically among the reasons of this war are due to the Great Depressions, Treaty of Versailles, and some other peace agreements that signed due to World War I consequences.
After World War I ended, the United States dominated the world market in terms of foods, minerals and industrial sect. As in 1929, the stock market crashed due to the domination and imbalance of market situation. Due to that, many countries were affected by the financial crisis, thus caused the Great Depression.
After World War I, Germany, Italy and Japan were anxious to regain and increase their power and during that time, the League of Nation was unable to promote disarmament among countries. In Germany, Adolf Hitler at that time wanted to end the humiliating conditions caused by German defeat in World War I.
Germany, Italy and Japan felt that they are handicapped in the unjust way in terms of market dominating, raw materials and colonies, compared to other nations. They also believed that countries like Belgium, France, Great Britain, Netherlands and United States unfairly controlled and dominated most of the world’s wealth and people.
Therefore Germany, Italy and Japan began to search for lands to be conquered in order to obtain what they considered to be their rights of share of the world’s resources and markets. Meanwhile, the Great Depression destroyed the Japan’s market of silk importing business, which had provided Japan 2/5 of its export income. And somehow military leaders took control over the Japan’s government, and in 1931, Japan invaded China, in order to look for more raw materials and bigger markets for their factories.
In 1932, the League of Nations called for a conference of 60 nations which has been occurred in Geneva, Switzerland, and the focus of the conference was about the disarmament among nations.
By that time, Germany’s military power had been severely limited because of the Treaty of Versailles. Therefore they had announced that the world of disarmament that has been promoted by the conference in 1932 had to be accomplished. Or otherwise Germany would rearm and achieve the military equality. But at that time France was refused to disarm, until an international police system could be established.
The conference was adjourned temporarily and by the time it was back in session, Adolf Hitler had become chancellor of Germany and was already preparing to rearm. Not long after that, Germany announced that they withdrew from the conference, which ended in failure, without any hope of disarmament. And that is how the World War II began.
In every events occurred, there must be impact of it. And there are numbers of impacts in terms of politic, history and some other aspects. Politically, World War II resulted in a weaker influence of Western Europe, in general. Western Europe has shaped much of the way the world run.
After the World War II, when nations involved in it were exhausted economically, politically, militarily and other aspects, they began to be shaped. And the result was a bipolar equilibrium, which is the two world’s super powers, the United States and Soviet Union.
Some political analysts had come out with seven major consequences of World War II which are the first and the second one are the end of European age and the rise of United States to super power status, as mentioned above. The third one is the expansion of Soviet Union and its rise to super power status, as mentioned above as well.
The other major consequences of World War II are the emergence of the Cold War and the beginning of the nuclear age. The rise of nationalism spirit and independent movements in Asia and Africa is also considered as one of the major consequences of World War II. And the final consequence of World War II that has been highlighted by political analysts is a renewed effort to secure lasting peace through several international organizations that some of them are still active nowadays.
