couple decades. The changes, although economically beneficial for America as a whole, are
becoming a detriment to the health of our society. Perhaps the biggest innovation is the rise of fast
food culture. The mass fast food monopoly is growing more and more every day, and with the aid of
the government in forms of subsidies, the food culture of the United States is being run by big
business. "Corporate enterprises" are "moving in to take advantage of" the American food market
(Campbell). This shift in the food economy has come to be accepted as the norm, and so the average
American consumer is being exposed to the dangers of fast food. Americans are finding it harder
and harder to eat healthy. Fast food is causing diseases and deaths to skyrocket, and the happiness
level of America is plummeting, all because of ignorance and the greed of big business.

or region. They can help connect people with places, and through this loyalty, a sense of civic pride

individuals and communities. In recent years dozens of new sports stadiums have been built
throughout the country, with major funding coming from public subsidies. The aim of this paper is

The US spent 699 billion dollars to subsidize the fossil–fuel sector in 2015. The removal of fossil–
fuel subsidy will enormously benefit energy markets, strengthen climate change policy and
government budgets.
Not only do fossil–fuel subsidies undermine global efforts to mitigate climate change, but they also
aggravate local pollution problems, causing further damage to human health and the environment.
They represent a considerable strain on public budgets as well, draining scarce fiscal resources that
could be put to better use, such as strategic investment in the education, skills, and physical
infrastructure that people value most in the 21st century. Last, fossil–fuel subsidies distort the costs
and prices that inform the decisions of many producers, investors, and consumers, thereby
perpetuating older technologies and energy–intensive modes of production.
Eliminating billions of dollars that subsidize the production of fossil fuels in the United States and
implementing this proposal will contribute to a leveling of the playing field among oil and gas
companies, since independent producers enjoy greater tax benefits than the oil majors, and will
promote the efficiency in allocating capital across the U.S. economy.

compared to the current use and distribution of federal resources to identify inefficiencies and
