Yet again, my attention to the supporting cast members of any production combined with Hallmark's
willingness to feature lesser known actors has produced an interview that viewers may not find
anywhere else. And frankly, that's the way I like it. A little while ago, Jason McKinnon, whom
Hearties saw featured as Mr. Higgins in season four of When Calls the Heart, agreed to chat with me
about his unique experience and outlook on the film and television industry in today's society, and
our conversation led us to some worthwhile discussion that I believe could benefit both viewers and
actors alike.

Yeah, IMDB is not always up to date. And sometimes I have to send in my own stuff as well so they

always have to go hunting for the supporting cast members. But I notice you have done a good
amount with Hallmark.

How did you decide to become an actor?
That was a no–brainer since seventh grade when I had a teacher who said I should do this. I was
like, "What? Be in your class?" She was like, "No, be an actor." I had a lot of support. My teacher's

A Room of One's Own Perception
In his novel The Hours, author Michael Cunningham describes his characters in a very unique way.
Cunningham portrays his characters through the descriptions of rooms in which each person spends
most of their day. The rooms become a window to each character's personality and personal
situation. Through reflection of her own room, Clarissa Vaughn comes to realize that she is
completely unhappy with the way her life has turned out. Similarly, Cunningham uses Laura
Brown's time in her kitchen and her two hour stay in a hotel room to assess her mental standing.
These spaces are not only observed by their inhabitants, but also by those close to them. Clarissa's
room is observed by her old friend Louis and the reader is given much of Richard's room
descriptions through the assessment of Clarissa. These observations by others help the reader gain a
sense of not only how the certain character considers their own self, but also how they are perceived
by others. Each individual life intersects with another character, which link together characters that
seemingly would otherwise not be connected. These observations regarding each room come to not
only embody the mental state of each character, but also represent a form of imprisonment for each.

The American Film Industry : The Asian Community
Throughout history, the American film industry undoubtedly collected evidence that it has a huge
racial issue. Despite America's changing demographics, Hollywood's most powerful leaders still
lack behind in responding to the demands for movies that reflect cultural and racial shifts. The
demand for more culturally diverse movies has been increasing over time. There are many great
actors and actresses who are struggling to survive in the film industry due to the fact that they are
categorized as a minority. One community in particular who is struggling the most today is the
Asian Community.
There has been an increase in the amount of Asian representation, but only a steady increase. The
issue is the lack of Asian representatives in American Film. Today's lack of Asian actors and
actresses can be traced back to the beginning of American film. Back then, minorities barely
received any screen time and rarely showed up on screen. When they do, they were used as extras
and/or background characters or as stereotypes. This created a negative view on the Asian
community.
Over the years, there has been an increase in the amount racial diversity, yet some minority groups
still struggle to make it in the spotlight; Specifically the Asian community. The issue is the lack of

I went to go see 2 Pianos 4 Hands at Neptune Theatre on March 6th; I have attached the ticket and
the program. I was impressed overall with the vocal performance but there were a few things that I
noticed. The breath support was diaphragmatic for the most of the play but I did notice some upper
chest breathing in Richard Todd Adams, who played Ted. I only noticed this when he was
downstage and delivering his speech. Bryce Kulak, who played Richard, seemed to be breathing
diaphragmatically the whole time. The sound quality was all over the place with both actors but it
was clearly a character choice. When the actors were switching between different characters they
added glottal attacks to show the harshness of their character. When there was a particularly strict
teacher, extra glottal attacks were added and when they were playing children their voice seemed to
have more of a soft quality. One of the things I really admired about this show was how the actors
used every part of their voice. They used techniques that would normally be considered bad habits
or could be potentially harmful for the voice but being at the end of the run I could not detect any

McCauley sets the tone for Michel Mann's Heat. Mann is able to have high–octane action one would
expect from a crime movie while displaying intimacy in the main characters. The combination of
the two is what makes the film a crime drama (even though Michael Mann argues that it doesn't
belong to a genre). That intimacy is what makes Heat memorable. Mann creates the intimacy in a
number of ways: through types of shots such as close–ups and zoom–ins, the score and the
