Children With Asd Produced The Same Amount Of Antigens...
This study showed that children with ASD produced the same amount of antigens from vaccines as kids who did not have ACD did (CDC, np). In
total, the CDC has conducted nine studies, all of which show no link between autism and vaccines (CDC, np). Another study done on 95,000 children
showed no link between vaccines and autism (Ross, np). Another claim anti–vaxxers make is that vaccines contain mercury which is toxic to humans
(Ross, np). Thimerosal, which was in multi–dose vaccines to prevent bacteria growth, did in fact contain traces of mercury (Ross, np) (CDC, np).
However, there are two types of mercury: methylmercury and ethylmercury (CDC, np). Methylmercury, which is found in some kinds of fish, is
toxic to humans in high doses, while ethylmercury is cleaned out of the body rapidly and is less likely to cause any harm, especially at low doses
(CDC, np). Thimerosal contained a very low dose of ethylmercury, and studies showed it would not be toxic to humans, aside from some minor side
effects such as redness or swelling after injection (CDC, np). Even so, the FDA decided to remove thimerosal from vaccines back in 2001 (Ross, np).
Some anti–vaxxers claim that they don't need to vaccinate their children because "measles isn't really that bad" (Ross, np). Measles is a respiratory
disease within the lungs and breathing tubes that results in fever and rash, and it is very contagious (CDC, np). Measles causes cough, runny nose,
rash, diarrhea, and ear infection (CDC, np).

The Negative Effects Of Vaccination
Finally, there are negative effects of vaccines. The most common side effects of vaccines are mild cases of fever, nausea, and redness or swelling at
the site of the injection (Kwok, 2011). Researchers are constantly working to improve the safety of vaccines by utilizing more inactive and killed
vaccines (Kwok, 2011). However, since experimental trials do not catch all side effects since some only effect one per 10,000– 100,000 people (Kwok,
2011). Though the most common side effects are mild, the rare side effects are more dangerous. The rare side effects occur in roughly one in every
100,000– 1 million cases (Kwok, 2011). These side effects include fever–induced convulsions and severe allergic reactions (Kwok, 2011). As rare as
they are, they do pose a significant threat to the safety of the individual. Researchers are continuously developing new vaccines that offer safe
immunization.
As discussed with biological effects of vaccines, there are several factors that come into a consideration when a person decides to receive a vaccination.
Some of these factors include religious and personal beliefs, as well as general mistrust in scientific and medical communities. Within the United States,
individuals who view vaccines as dangerous or unnecessary, are usually met with the social label "anti–vax" or the more accepted term for medical
professionals "vaccine hesitant" (McClure et al.). As with biological factors, the results can influence both individual and community

Q Fever Essay
Q fever in abattoir workers
What is Q fever?
Q fever is a ubiquitous zoonotic disease caused by the organism Coxiella burnetii, which is an obligate gram–negative intracellular bacterium.1 The
disease was first described in Brisbane, Australia in the 1930s where there was an outbreak of respiratory illness in abattoir workers.2 Q fever is a
notifiable disease in all states and territories in Australia. The organism has been identified in a wide range of domestic and wild animal hosts
including birds, arthropods, marsupials, rodents and livestock, but by far the most common reservoirs are sheep, cattle and goats.3
The pathogenesis of C. burnetii is unusual in that it undergoes a biphasic life cycle generating a spore–like form that is extremely ... Show more content

National Q fever vaccination program (NQFMP) in Australia
A nationally funded vaccination program for Q fever was introduced to Australia in 2002 with the aim of reducing Q fever morbidity in at–risk
personnel.12 The program included the cost of the vaccine itself, as well as pre–screening to determine those already sensitised to Q fever antigens.
Phase one of the NQFMP was specifically targeted towards abattoir workers and sheep shearers.12 Followed by the second phase, which expanded to
include sheep and cattle farmers, their family members and employees working on the farms. Program uptake varied from almost 100% amongst
abattoir workers to only 43% in farmers.
Subsequent Q fever notification and hospitalisation rates following the implementation of the vaccination program declined by more than 50%
between 2002 and 2006 to the lowest levels on record (Fig. 1).12 The greatest decline occurred in young adult males, which typically make up majority

The Problem Of Vaccines For Pharmaceutical Companies
Another claim against immunization is personal opposition to big pharmaceutical companies. Some believe vaccines are charged to patients solely for
profit. This pharmaceutical profit–motive can call into question product safety and integrity. The overwhelming majority of vaccines are not highly
profitable though (Lam). Due to the massive investment of time and funds required to create vaccines, coupled with only marginal returns on this
investment, pharmaceutical corporations do not focus on them. As result, nonprofit health organizations and political agencies such as the CDC, and
the WHO, generally lead the charge in vaccine development. It is a real danger that companies will stop developing vaccines altogether (Lam). Drug
companies instead concentrate on well, drugs. Continuous treatment medications require patients to purchase repeatedly, until it is no longer necessary.
(In some cases, patients may even take certain drugs until death.) The time interval of vaccinations is, at the very least, yearly. In the case of the flu,
rather than one flu shot, pharmaceutical companies can profit more from selling antivirals, painkillers, and a host of other treatments to patients that
contract viral sickness. Medications, rather than cures are economically desirable. As a biochemistry student myself, upon graduating I face the
decision between conducting decent paying scientific research or developing pharmaceuticals with the opportunity of making upwards of $200,000 a
year for

Anti Vaccination Pros And Cons

Spring 2017 These two articles I came across are about the anti–vaccine movement. The anti–vaccine movement oppose the use of vaccinations. A
vaccine is a biological agent that stimulates a person's immune system to produce immunity to a specific pathogen, protecting the person from a
disease. Some of the activists "anti–vaxxers" and parents believe the vaccines are responsible for cases of autism, learning disabilities and death. The
risk of outbreaks is even greater today. Children are not being immunized due to their parents personal beliefs. The number of school children not being
vaccinated are growing rapidly. One of the articles talks about mainly the school children in Texas, but other states such as Washington and Colorado
have the same amount of exemptions as Texas. Although people may think Texas is the center of the anti
–vaccine movement, the law requires the kids
to be vaccinated but parents do not need to submit proof of vaccination. Now for the anti–vaxxers who think vaccines cause autism, they do not. In
these articles, they explain that it was a fraudulent study done in 1998 published by a British doctor who admitted he falsified his results. ... Show more

Q Fever Research Paper
Q fever is a disease caused by infection with Coxiella burnetii, a bacterium that affects humans and other animals. This organism is uncommon, but may
be found in cattle, sheep, goats and other domestic mammals, including cats and dogs. The infection results from inhalation of a spore–like small cell
variant, and from contact with the milk, urine, feces, vaginal mucus, or semen of infected animals. Rarely, the disease is tick borne. The incubation
period is 9–40 days. Humans are vulnerable to Q fever, and infection can result from even a few organisms. The bacterium is an obligate intracellular
pathogenic parasite.
Signs and symptoms
Incubation period is usually two to three weeks.

This is an extremely low infectious dose, making C. burnetii one of the most infectious known organisms. Disease occurs in two stages: an acute stage
that presents with headaches, chills, and respiratory symptoms, and an insidious chronic stage.
While most infections clear up spontaneously, treatment with tetracycline or doxycycline appears to reduce the symptomatic duration and reduce the
likelihood of chronic infection. A combination of erythromycin and rifampin is highly effective in curing the disease, and vaccination with Q–VAX
vaccine is effective for prevention of it.
The bacteria use a Type IVB secretion system known as Icm/Dot to inject effector proteins called Ank proteins into the host. These effectors increase
the bacteria's ability to survive inside the host cell. In Legionella pneumophila, which uses the same secretion system and also injects Ank proteins,
survival is enhanced because these Ank proteins interfere with fusion of the bacteria–containing vacuole with the host's degradation endosomes.

The Decision Of Childhood Vaccination
Following contentious medical declarations in years gone by, the decision of childhood vaccination has proven to be highly controversial, with
various stakeholders possessing very strong stances. either defending individual freedoms or the track record of medical science. Following the death
of several young children, and the implementation of the "no jab, no pay" scheme, political journalist Waleed Aly produced a measured, well
considered editorial published in 'The Age' on the 17 April, 2015 titled 'Sledgehammer cannot win battle of the needle'. Aly takeshas the view that the
Government's recent " no tolerance" policy will be ineffectively punitive, and more calculated persuasion is required to win over those who oppose the
policy. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

high–minded certainty on this issue, and Aly puts forward the question of whether or not, as a society, we truly do want to force those who possess
opposing beliefs into "symbolic excommunication", a metaphorical idea that we "gleefully" direct towards groups including "terrorists". The slightly
hyperbolic comparison between the two groups forcing puts the readers in an uncomfortable position where they are perhaps 'forced' to reevaluate
what unintended consequences the "no jab, no pay" policy may induce. Adding clarity to this line of argument, Aly is then logically reminding the
audience that the main objective of the policy is to "get more people immunised"; and so to further dismiss the merit and perceived gains that come
with "exiling]" anti–vaxxers, and establish the idea that "no jab, no pay" is ineffective, Aly tactically references "health experts", who agree that
currently proposals are unlikely to provide "practical difference". This second opinion on the matter provides reassurance for the audience that Aly's
potentially controversial idea nonetheless

products covered. It all started in 1985 with a bipartisanship between Horst Pudwill and Roy Chi Chung, since then TTI has become a leader in home
improvement power tools worldwide. This was achieved by the thoughtful consideration by both owners, through the implementation of several
different techniques and management styles. In this paper I will describe the multiple techniques used in making TTI group the successful business it is
today. One large focus of TTI is to continue its aggressive culture. The culture has since day one been to strive to advance the home goods department
of the industry. In recent years, the company has hired younger aged employees; the older employees were having a hard time adjusting to the style of
work and culture the younger generation bring to the company. As a solution, "The Board and senior management continuously update, develop and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Printers
Introduction Since the earliest digital electronic computers, instruction sets have tended to grow larger and more complex. The MARK–1 (in 1948)
had seven instruction of trivial complexity, yet a contemporary machine like the VAX has more than three hundred instructions. In addition, its
instructions can be more complicated. Any high performance implementation of the VAX has to rely on complex implementation techniques such as
pipelining, caches and prefetching. During the late sixties, there was much experimentation with very complex instructions. It was made possible by
the interpreter. Hardly anyone thought of designing simpler machines. In 1970, a group led by IBM's John Cocke, worked on a high–performance
minicomputer, named the 801. IBM never marketed this machine but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
RISC allows freedom of using the space on microprocessors because of its simplicity. Instead of using Stack, many RISC processors use the
registers for passing arguments and holding the local variables. RISC functions uses only a few parameters, and the RISC processors cannot use the
call instructions, and therefore, use a fixed length instructions which are easy to pipeline. The speed of the operation can be maximized and the
execution time can be minimized. Very less number of instruction formats (less than four), a few number of instructions (around 150) and a few
addressing modes (less than four) are needed. Disadvantage of RISC With the increase in the length of the instructions, the complexity increases for
the RISC processors to execute due to its character cycle per instruction. The performance of the RISC processors depends mostly on the compiler or
the programmer as the knowledge of the compiler plays a major role while converting the CISC code to a RISC code; hence, the quality of the
generated code depends on the

The Pharmacological Treatments For Opiates, Drugs, And Drugs
In this essay, the effectiveness of the pharmacological treatments for opiates, nicotine, cocaine, and alcohol in relation to addiction relief and prevention
will be critically evaluated. This will be accomplished through an investigation of the respective substances and their current treatment's methods and
levels of success, such as the use of Substitution Therapy, agonist and antagonist treatments, and preventative drugs. Furthermore, the generation of
directions for future research and treatments will be performed, particularly assessing the potentiality for remedying addiction through
substance–tailored vaccinations and suggestions for solidifying a scientifically accepted methodology for the treatment of cocaine dependency.
Concurrently, pharmacological treatment efficacy has been assessed heavily within academic texts. The present essay will incorporate a multitude of
these findings, in order to appraise the effectiveness of current addiction prevention proposals in determining empirically and clinically substantive
degeneration of the largely aggressive symptoms, and the possible detrimental short and long–term effects, correlated with addiction to opiates,
nicotine, cocaine, and alcohol. Opiate dependency is a result of addiction to specific prescription drugs such as oxycodone, morphine, hydrocodone,

Issues Of Immunization With Children
Immunization with Children
Marisa Harvey
University of Toledo
Immunization with Children Immunizing children is a huge issue between parents, schools, daycares, and doctors all around the world. It is becoming
more and more common for parents and doctors to blame health problems on the side effects of immunizations. I learned about the importance of this
topic from working at a daycare. Over the past two years, we have had a few parents who are completely against immunizing their children and that
causes other parents to be concerned with their children's health. Children who do not get immunization are at a higher risk of getting sick and
infecting other children that they are around. Every parent should get their children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A child who is not immunized can spread a disease to other children. Future generations are also protected when children are immunized. The amount
of disease have been reduced and in some cases, even eliminated completely because of vaccinations. Diseases that injured and even killed people in
past decades are no longer a worry because of vaccinations. The smallpox vaccination wiped out that disease. Smallpox shots are no longer given to
children because the disease does not exist anymore ("Five important reasons to vaccinate your child"). It has been proven that the risks for side effects
of immunizations outweighs the risk of injuring or killing thousands from a disease. Immunizing your child will help lower the number of how many
children are affected by diseases that occur in our country and other countries

The Invention Of Modern Medicine
A revolutionary invention in modern medicine has changed the world in the past fifty years. In the 20th century, diseases such as polio, diphtheria, and
rubella were commonplace and claimed millions of lives. Now they are something of the past– these illnesses are considered 'eradicated diseases'. This
massive increase in population immunization is due to the invention of vaccines and artificially acquired immunity. Vaccinations are critically
important in preventing and maintaining individual and public health concerns. When people have infections or illnesses for the first time their
immune systems have to fight them off. At first the invader is defined by foreign and unknown by an individual's immune system, but it progressively
gets better and better until the infection is eradicated. By then, your immune system has 'memorized' how to fight them off, resulting in what is known
as naturally acquired immunity. Unfortunately naturally acquired immunity has some serious health risks such as being permanently crippled, dying,
and the potential risk of passing on the disease to others around you. This is where vaccines come into play. Vaccines harmlessly imitate infections to
stimulate an individual's immune system. The artificial 'infection' is taken down by the body very quickly with virtually no side effects or risk of
death. Your immune system has 'memorized' how to fight off a certain disease through training wheels, and once a vaccinated individual encounters that

Post-Vaccination Paper
Many infectious diseases that once quickly spread and easily killed have been controlled or eradicated due to vaccinations. The efficacy of vaccines in
reducing morbidity and mortality, particularly in children, is undeniable. Per the World Health Organization, childhood vaccinations prevent
approximately 2–3 million deaths per year worldwide (WHO, 2016). In the United States, the value of immunizations is clearly displayed by
comparing pre–vaccine era morbidity/mortality rates to post–vaccine era in regards to vaccine–preventable diseases. For example, prior to the
diphtheria vaccine in the 1920's, 206,000 people annually contracted the disease resulting in 15,520 deaths (History of Vaccines, 2009). However,

Although the arguments against vaccines have remained consistent for over two centuries, the ways in which information is disseminated to the public
through media has changed. Technological advancements of the internet and social media have allowed everyone quick and easy access to
anti–vaccination propaganda. These false messages can negatively influence parental attitudes and beliefs regarding vaccines (LA County Department
of Public Health, 2015). Currently, most women of child–bearing age who will be making vaccination decisions for their children are Millennials – a
term used to describe those born between 1980 and the early 2000s. Millennials are less inclined than older generations to vaccinate their children. This
can mainly be attributed to their utilization of readily available health information regarding vaccines from the media and internet rather than asking
and trusting a doctor. For example, a recent study shows that 70 percent of people are influenced by what they read on the internet regarding
vaccination information (Kata, 2012). This is a dangerous way to form opinions about health and vaccination, as the information on social media is not

The Nature Of Vaccination
Should all people who work in government education centres go through mandatory vaccination?
The act of vaccination has been discussed frequently over the past decade, with arguments from supporters of vaccination and anti–vax advocates
impacting on the opinions of others regarding child vaccination. While the focus is primarily on the act of vaccinating babies and young children as
well as adolescents in high school, this report will investigate into the "mandatory nature" of vaccination as this is a current contemporary issue affecting
Australians. The question of 'Should all people in government education centres go through mandatory vaccination?' will be further explored through
three focus questions including 'Why were vaccinations introduced?', 'What are the benefits and risks of vaccines?' and 'Should vaccination be
mandatory for adults working in education centres?' In order to gain highly effective and relevant information, primary sources in the form of an
interview by a Nurse Unit Manager from the Immunisation Section of the South Australian Communicable Disease Control Branch and a survey of the
general public have been conducted, as well as the use of secondary sources from various websites, including medical journal articles and news reports.

Vaccines Are Not Only Safe
On the side of defending vaccinations, many people, as well as myself, stand firm in our beliefs, that vaccinations are good. The fact of the matter is
there wouldn't be such thing as vaccinations if they didn't work. I believe a lot of the troubles come from the Autism scare, which I do understand is a
frightening thought for a lot of parents, but with countless studies conducted and all pointing to a negative correlation of the two, I think its time to
stop using that as an excuse, with Steven Salzberg a writer for Forbes saying, "Most of the anti–vax crowd have no scientific training or expertise,
which might explain (but doesn't excuse) their complete ignorance of the science. Over the past 15 years, dozens of studies involving hundreds of
thousands of people have shown convincingly that neither vaccines nor any of the ingredients in them are linked to autism. Vaccines are not only
safe, but they are perhaps the greatest public health success in the history of civilization" (Forbes 2015). It is due to the many people who believe
they are smarter than science and medical research that we are having the measles and whooping cough scares that are occurring today. Without the
use of vaccines many of the diseases that were under control, or completely depleted are now slowly starting to reappear. Measles being the biggest
offender, with it said to have been fully eradicated in 2000, we had over 600 cases of measles in 2014. For all of the measles cases you read about, as

Argumentative Essay On Vaccination
"I had a son that played with toys...and he disappeared. I didn't question it until it was too late." This is the sentiment of a mother, a caretaker who has
suffered along with her autistic son in a daily struggle of lost motor skills and bureaucratic red tape. Why? Vaccinations. Now, before we go any
further, I must tell you: I am not anti–vaxx. Other than skipping the occasional flu shot out of a lack of necessity, I am up to date on every possible
vaccination a nineteen year old American female is expected to have. But this piece doesn't fight for one side or the other, it doesn't seek to make a
statement on if someone should receive vaccinations or not. It is about the misrepresentation of this group that is going on in the mass media,
sensationalizing the members and arguments and essentially sequestering pro–choice–for–vaccination believers into nothing but Facebook groups,
blog posts, and opinion pieces.
Also, most of these pieces reference facts and statistics from state and national Departments of Health, and medical professionals. And this is fine,
obviously: they are reporting, which is an essential part of a journalist's job. But it is primarily the choices surrounding these facts that are at fault.
Journalists are not bothering to ask this group, these believers, what they happen to think about things, and with that are only printing statements that

effective, but there is still 5% that can still come in contact with the disease (Pros and Cons, 2015). They think it doesn't capture the illness and
immunity lasts longer if created by natural circumstances (Pros and Cons, 2015). Some schools require certain vaccinations to be taken before starting
to school. Fourteen studies have been conducted by Amanda Peet, a vaccine manufacturer, and she believes there is no association between autism and
vaccines. No real studies have ever been done but medical professions believe this is fake (Peet, n.d). Whether or not a parent cannot pay for
vaccinations is no problem. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) distributes vaccines to state health departments and other local agencies. These
agencies distribute them to private–physicians' offices, at no charge to those receiving vaccines (Vaccines for Children, 2014). The Childhood
Immunization Support Program (CISP) has

Adequacy of Organization's Long-term Counter Attack Actions
Introduction
In Case study number one (Dhillon, 2007), Stellar University(SU), which is public education institution, had a system breach in its Information
Systems(IS). The IS of SU contained many types of IT such as Mainframe, AS400, Linux, VAX, Unix, AIX, Windows(3.1 and up to 2003), Apple,
RISC boxes Storage Area Networks(SAN), Network Attached Storage(NAS) and much more. Sadly, SU has had asecurity breach on some of its
systems. Even though everything was fixed but there are issues that need to be discussed about this breach. The first issue is adequacy of
organization's long–term counter attack actions. The second issue is helpfulness of immediate counter attack actions. Hopefully, the discussion will be
concise and to the point.
Adequacy of Organization's Long–term Counter Attack Actions
Sadly, the measures SU IS staff has taken were not adequate enough. The post–mortem check they conducted to determine the what and why of the
breach was not done in a formal fashion. It was basically, a written summary presented to the management, along with an analysis of how to avoid such
future breaches of similar type presented to the System Administrators(SAs). It was done in several steps. First, after viewing monitoring tool logs the
SAs decided to put the Anti–Virus(AV) program in the watch list of services so they would be alerted when a hacker for instance disables the AV. Still,
this step will not prevent the intrusion! This is another proof that the actions were not

LEL Task 1– Learner Profile
LEARNER IDENTIFICATION:
Information about Faisa was gathered through a recorded interview, informal conversations in class, class assessments and a learning styles test (VAX).
INTRODUCTION
Faisa is a 21–year–old Somali woman. She moved to the UK in 2006 as a refugee. She lives in a council flat with her brother, his wife and her baby
nephew. She worked in a mobile–phone shop for five months in 2008, but has been unemployed for the past eighteen months and claims benefits.
Faisa attended classes at Enfield College before joining my ESOL Entry 3 class, and has a full ESOL Entry 2 certificate. She joined my class because

Her requests to read and write stories led me to use Penguin Readers in class and she was very involved in reading some of the stories aloud,
discussing the ideas in the stories and writing short reviews and stories. This new goal motivates her language learning and supports the Andragogical
theory that adult learners learn best when they are interested in the subject they are learning and the lesson is useful to them. Her high aspirations with
regard to understanding English keeps her focused on improving her expression in English. The result is that her basic communication skills, e.g. with
the Housing office or the doctor is better than most E3 learners.
FACTORS AFFECTING LEARNING:
Despite her very positive approach to language class, Faisa has many personal factors affecting her progress.
When she was fourteen her sister was killed and she was seriously injured in a bombing on her home in Mogadishu. As a result Faisa suffers
extreme migraine headaches and often cannot come to class, or has to leave early. She says the pain is like a fire in her skull. Faisa is also dyslexic,
having been diagnosed while in Sweden. She does not see this as a difficulty. She wears tinted glasses and has a transparent blue plastic ruler that she
uses over her reading material to aid her. At the moment Faisa's sister–in–law is gong through a difficult pregnancy and so Faisa has a greater amount
of responsibility at home. She does not mind this but

Benefits Of Vaccination
Why should we get vaccinated? What are the benefits? Do vaccinations even work? Many people in America are/have been questioning if they even
need to get vaccinated. In fact, "Between 2006 and 2013, the percentage of pediatricians who had encountered a parent refusing a vaccine went from
about 75 percent to 87 percent." (Greenberg) There are many reasons why people refuse to get vaccinated, three of the major reasons is for religious
purposes, they are unnecessary and that they have a negative effect on the human body. A commonly asked question is, "What would happen if I did
not have my child immunized?" (Shelov) Well, without getting these immunizations the possibility of ones' child getting the whooping cough, polio, or
other diseases... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immunizations have reduced and gotten rid of many diseases that have been severe in the past. An example of this is the smallpox. By people
getting the small pox vaccination for generations the small pox disease is no longer. Since this disease does not exist anymore, there is no need to
get this vaccination. Along with many other diseases like Chicken pox, polio, or malaria may have not been fully "cured," but they have been limited
and are very rare due to the vaccinations that have been received for generations. If we continue to vaccinate our children this process will continue
meaning that more and more diseases will be cured or be shut out to a minimum. It has been said that the ingredients in vaccines are harmful to
children, but this is un–true. Aluminum, for example, targets your central nervous system which could lead to brain diseases like Alzheimer's and
Parkinson's. It could be a dangerous ingredient if used in large amounts, however, in immunizations scientists and doctors have used just the right
amount of aluminum in vaccines not to be damaging to the human body. In fact, "Children are exposed to more aluminum in breast milk and infant
formula than they are exposed to in vaccines." (Procon.org) Vaccines are tested for ten or more years by the FDA before they become licensed,
demonstrating that these vaccines are not just tested a couple of times and then all of a sudden thrown out there because scientists think that they are
going to work.

Children Vaccinated Against Common Illnesses
In recent years vaccines have been a major topic of discussion. While some people still think having your children vaccinated against common
illnesses such as chicken pox and the flu is dangerous, I myself think it is perfectly fine to have your children vaccinated on the schedule
recommended by pediatricians. Some parents choose to have their children vaccinated on a delayed schedule, which I still find acceptable. However,
the parents who choose not to have their children vaccinated at all are a danger to the public.
Unvaccinated people can cause outbreaks of viruses that have been eradicated. In late 2014 a measles outbreak occurred when an unvaccinated child
who was a carrier of the disease visited Disneyland. This caused 173 people from seventeen different states to contract the virus that was eradicated
from the United States in 2002. In order for measles to be under control 94–99% of the population must be vaccinated. With the recent trend of not
vaccinating, measles, along with other once eradicated, or nearly eradicated diseases are making a come–back.
Since early 1998 autism and the MMR vaccine, a vaccine that protects the body from measles, mumps, and rubella viruses, has said to been linked. In
an article written by Jeffery S. Gerber and Paul A. Offit published in Clinical Infectious Diseases, Andrew Wakefield discovered this apparent link.
According to Gerber and Offit:
On 28 February 1998, Andrew Wakefield, a British gastroenterologist, and colleagues

The Anti-Vaccination Movement
The earth is flat, and lightning never strikes the same place twice are common scientific misconceptions. In most cases, these misunderstandings are
relatively harmless. In other cases, they are critical.
Perhaps nowhere is science more important than in the anti–vaccination (anti–VAX) movement. Throughout the last 10 years many "dead" diseases
such as the measles, mumps, and whooping cough have begun to come back in meager outbreaks. Pockets of unvaccinated children or
under–vaccinated children have led to these outbreaks. More importantly, there are growing pockets of vaccine refusal throughout the nation. With these
growing pockets comes disruption in the local herd immunity resulting in vaccine–preventable disease outbreaks. Local herd ... Show more content on

Many getting treated will still have the peril of acquiring a disease because of the terrifying number of people going around unvaccinated. The
anti–VAX group's suspicion is making it difficult to find a solution that could find a way out of the ditch already created. Many people in the
anti–VAX group believe that many vaccines have the capabilities of causing things such as autism. Great Britain debunked this theory after being
published in the journal Lancelet and the lead author of this article, Andrew Wakefield, lost his medical license in 2010. However, as the years went
along, the fear of life–saving vaccines took hold of millions of parents. Due to the suspicions created by the anti–VAX group, the lack of trust in
America's doctors is near the bottom of all the industrial countries: 24th out of 29 countries surveyed. Recent research has found that those who have
the least faith in the government are the least likely to vaccinate in the case of an outbreak of

A Brief Summary Of Scanlan's Things Fall Apart
It's not the first time they've done something like this, although previously it had been more for warmth than solace. But Scanlan gets it, he really
does. And it's Vax asking, openly, for the simplest form of comfort there is: don't let me be alone. The twins pull the thick bedspreads from the
mattresses and carry them into the large den nearest the corridor with their bedrooms. Scanlan commands several of his ethereal servants to shift the
furniture to the sides of the room, against the bookcases. (He hasn't found the time or interest to crack the books open since their creation. The pages
could be blank; he liked the look of them, is all.) Vex's braid is half–undone and tangled. Her dark hair falls in her face as she unrolls her blankets
across the thick carpet – it's shag, of course. Vax sits back on his heels, fists planted on his thighs, watching Vex as she works. When Vex finishes,
she collapses to the blankets and curls up, hugging her knees and pressing her forehead against them. Vax gives Scanlan a wordless look and pulls the
blankets over him and his sister. The blankets stir as he curls around his sister, one arm moving over her waist. He tips his forehead down against her
hair and doesn't say anything.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Anti Vaxers By Claire Harvey
The issue of vaccines was addressed in an opinion article by Claire Harvey titled Anti–vaxers, you are baby killers published on the 22nd of March
2015. Appealing to parents who are outraged by the anti–vaccine parents, the writer contends, in an angry tone, that parents who don't vaccinate their
children are irresponsible and should be labelled as 'baby killers'. Keeping her target audience in mind, Harvey manages to persuade readers about the
importance of vaccinating babies and making sure that others do as well by using inclusive language and evidence. Her vocab choice and use of
loaded language also helps support her argument.
Claire Harvey creates a 'us and them' mentality with her use of inclusive language. She targets two different groups of readers in the article; those who
don't vaccinate their children and those that do vaccinate their children. It's quickly established that Harvey wants to create this divide in the article by
targeting those who don't vaccinate their children with sentences like 'you killed the twelve babies who have died of whooping cough in the past six
years' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could be offensive to those who don't vaccinate their children which is Harvey's intention and will likely draw attention to those who are pro
vaccination. Her byline prompts readers to think about their morals and question what they would do for a baby. Out of context, it seems like a simple
moral question but in the first paragraph, readers discover that is it an attack on the 'anti–vaxers'. The image of baby Riley is an appeal to the emotions
of her readers. By including a photo of the child who inspired the article, readers are prompted to feel sadness and guilt about the loss of this child. It's
a reminder to the target audience that they should be speaking up about this issue so that another child like Riley doesn't die from a preventable

The Anti Vaccination Movement ( 283 )
Vaccines are helpful. They heal sick people, prevent diseases, and strengthen immune systems. In the words of Bartoszewska, Patel, and Carter–Blanks,
"Since their discovery, some of the world's deadliest diseases have been eradicated, countless others have been prevented, and hope continues to be
found as new and improved vaccinations are being developed" (283). Yet as the efficiency of vaccines keeps growing, so does the number of people
opposed to them. The anti–vaccination movement, or AVM for short, is the term used to describe the growing wave of hesitancy or outright refusal to
vaccinate. This normally would not be so controversial; however, some parents who are anti–vax also refuse to vaccinate their children, which is
incredibly serious. It is important for us to understand the anti–vaccination movement because we as people do not make decisions in a vacuum, we
make decisions in an environment with other people and those decisions usually tend to affect those other people. This issue is largely a psychological
issue, and just as psychology can help people understand other people, it can also help us understand anti–vaccinators.
Much of the reasoning behind the AVM can be explained through psychological concepts. The perception of risk plays a large role in anti
–vaccination;
the belief that vaccines cause autism is one of the main reasons why easily–worried parents may not vaccinate their children (Wang, Baras, and
Buttenheim 6703). According to the risk/benefit

Comments on performanceAs the hardware basis for such capabilities, an interactive graphics computer station––SaberStation for short––equips the
application programmer with more than enough processing power for the job. Based on a National Semiconductor 32–bit chip set and running at 10
MHz under the BSD Unix operating system, the unit puts the performance of a VAX–like minicomputer on an engineer's desk. Its architecture, which
employs a floating–point coprocessor and ultrafast, 32–bit–wide DMA channels, executes 1.2 million instructions a second.
Comments on programmabilityPrograms in this system can often, even typically, be written in a single line of code. Inexperienced users can be taught
to write simple programs in a matter of minutes. Beginners often produce simple programs without effort within their first day using it.
The elements of the Unix environment have been called software tools. A software tool is very much like a component, but a bit different. Throughout
this piece, we'll refer to components as "tools," but remember that you can almost always substitute "component" for "tool." In Unix, the standard shell
utilities are all tools. So is the shell. A tool takes a standard data format–– lines of textual input –– and produces output in the same format. No special
code is needed to handle data types; everyone agrees on a simple format and does a small amount of translation.

However, it is not difficult for the local management to add such measures, or others such as a delay of several seconds after each attempt. And unlike
Unix, it is difficult to evade these even once you're in. Without heavy in–depth knowledge, you can't test a username– password combination except
through a system call, which will enforce delays and limited failures and such against password–trying programs.
So, TOPS–20 is easy to defend against the "database hack", in which you try many different common passwords with many different usernames. (Unix
is much more vulnerable to this.) But any particular system, especially a lax one like a college machine (DEC is always popular in academia), might
have little defense here. But you might not know how much defense until too late.
Do try the GUEST username.
But TOPS–20 can be very vulnerable to trojan horses. See, there's this thing called the Wheel bit. A username that has the Wheel property can do
anything the system operator can do, such as ignore file protection masks, edit the disks at the track/sector level, change any area of memory... On
Unix, only one user, the superuser, can read and write protected files. On TOPS–20,

Tetanus, Diphtheria And Whooping Cough ( Pertussis )
Vaccination has strongly integrated into modern medicine, and several generations have grown up without being exposed to epidemics of rubella,
whooping cough, measles, etc. However, during the recent decade an anti–vaccine movement has emerged, powered by the complaints and claims of
parents in on the internet and videos associated with the supposed specific effects of vaccines. Many mothers choose not to immunize their kids, or
refuse from certain vaccinations. Before the major vaccination campaigns of the 1960s and '70s, diseases like tetanus, diphtheria and whooping
cough (pertussis) killed thousands of young children every year. Today, deaths from these diseases are extraordinarily rare in Australia, and the
remainder of the developed world("health.gov.au", 2015). Even with the knowledge of the reality that vaccinations have greatly reduced the
diagnosis of many deadly diseases, there is still a group of individuals who refuse to vaccinate their children out of fear. Despite the long history of
safety and effectiveness, vaccines have had their fair share of criticism, some parents and a small fringe of doctors question whether or not vaccinating
kids are worth what they perceive as the risks. In recent years, the anti–vaccination movement, largely based on poor science and fear–mongering, has
become more vocal and even hostile (Hughes 2015). Thanks to a reduction in parental willingness to immunize children, vaccine–preventable diseases
are on the rise. Last year, the

Negative Effects Of Vaccinations
The discovery of vaccines is one of the biggest medical achievements of the 20th century. Ever since the experiment performed by Edward Jenner
where he inoculated a boy with cowpox to gain immunity from deadly smallpox, the vaccination has greatly reduced the rate of infection and death by
vaccine–preventable diseases. However, when receiving the vaccination became a compulsory law in the mid–1800's in the UK, protestors shot up
expressing that the laws go against their civil liberty. This was the beginning of the anti–vaccination movement, a movement which has not ceased to
this day, full of people with deeply rooted beliefs that vaccinations aren't as beneficial as the general public believes they are.

In the United States alone there are 30,000 deaths annually that could be have been saved by a simple vaccine.
Another reason for immunity decline is the article published on the research done by Andrew Wakefield in 1998 on the MMR (measles, mumps,
and rubella) vaccine and its contents causing autisms. This claim caused a decrease in MMR vaccines, especially in the UK. And because measles is
highly exploitative even in the smallest decrease in population immunity it resurfaced and ended up killing two children. Wakefield's credentials are
now stripped and the research discredited because all 12 cases were based on parents recalls or beliefs and not one of the cases studied were left
unaltered. However, it gave momentum to the anti–vaccination movement and it is still a common reason used by parents to avoid vaccinating their
child because mass media allows false information to spread quickly and be blown out of proportion. The internet allows anybody to look up any
information whether credible or not, leading to citizen doing their research on vaccines, feeding into the false ideas and potentially increasing the
number of anti–vaxxers that weren't originally opposed to vaccines.
Many parents are also concerned with the idea that too many vaccines can cause an "immune system overload". This idea causes parents to either push
off the immunizations until they believe their child's immune system is strong enough to

The first crude mouse brain derived inactivated Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccines were produced in the 1930s by the Japanese and Russians, and

also a part of the routine immunization programs in some Asian countries (4). However, concerns appeared regarding temporal association of rare, but

Children With Asd Produced The Same Amount Of Antigens...

  • 1. Children With Asd Produced The Same Amount Of Antigens... This study showed that children with ASD produced the same amount of antigens from vaccines as kids who did not have ACD did (CDC, np). In total, the CDC has conducted nine studies, all of which show no link between autism and vaccines (CDC, np). Another study done on 95,000 children showed no link between vaccines and autism (Ross, np). Another claim anti–vaxxers make is that vaccines contain mercury which is toxic to humans (Ross, np). Thimerosal, which was in multi–dose vaccines to prevent bacteria growth, did in fact contain traces of mercury (Ross, np) (CDC, np). However, there are two types of mercury: methylmercury and ethylmercury (CDC, np). Methylmercury, which is found in some kinds of fish, is toxic to humans in high doses, while ethylmercury is cleaned out of the body rapidly and is less likely to cause any harm, especially at low doses (CDC, np). Thimerosal contained a very low dose of ethylmercury, and studies showed it would not be toxic to humans, aside from some minor side effects such as redness or swelling after injection (CDC, np). Even so, the FDA decided to remove thimerosal from vaccines back in 2001 (Ross, np). Some anti–vaxxers claim that they don't need to vaccinate their children because "measles isn't really that bad" (Ross, np). Measles is a respiratory disease within the lungs and breathing tubes that results in fever and rash, and it is very contagious (CDC, np). Measles causes cough, runny nose, rash, diarrhea, and ear infection (CDC, np). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Negative Effects Of Vaccination Finally, there are negative effects of vaccines. The most common side effects of vaccines are mild cases of fever, nausea, and redness or swelling at the site of the injection (Kwok, 2011). Researchers are constantly working to improve the safety of vaccines by utilizing more inactive and killed vaccines (Kwok, 2011). However, since experimental trials do not catch all side effects since some only effect one per 10,000– 100,000 people (Kwok, 2011). Though the most common side effects are mild, the rare side effects are more dangerous. The rare side effects occur in roughly one in every 100,000– 1 million cases (Kwok, 2011). These side effects include fever–induced convulsions and severe allergic reactions (Kwok, 2011). As rare as they are, they do pose a significant threat to the safety of the individual. Researchers are continuously developing new vaccines that offer safe immunization. As discussed with biological effects of vaccines, there are several factors that come into a consideration when a person decides to receive a vaccination. Some of these factors include religious and personal beliefs, as well as general mistrust in scientific and medical communities. Within the United States, individuals who view vaccines as dangerous or unnecessary, are usually met with the social label "anti–vax" or the more accepted term for medical professionals "vaccine hesitant" (McClure et al.). As with biological factors, the results can influence both individual and community ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Q Fever Essay Q fever in abattoir workers What is Q fever? Q fever is a ubiquitous zoonotic disease caused by the organism Coxiella burnetii, which is an obligate gram–negative intracellular bacterium.1 The disease was first described in Brisbane, Australia in the 1930s where there was an outbreak of respiratory illness in abattoir workers.2 Q fever is a notifiable disease in all states and territories in Australia. The organism has been identified in a wide range of domestic and wild animal hosts including birds, arthropods, marsupials, rodents and livestock, but by far the most common reservoirs are sheep, cattle and goats.3 The pathogenesis of C. burnetii is unusual in that it undergoes a biphasic life cycle generating a spore–like form that is extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... National Q fever vaccination program (NQFMP) in Australia A nationally funded vaccination program for Q fever was introduced to Australia in 2002 with the aim of reducing Q fever morbidity in at–risk personnel.12 The program included the cost of the vaccine itself, as well as pre–screening to determine those already sensitised to Q fever antigens. Phase one of the NQFMP was specifically targeted towards abattoir workers and sheep shearers.12 Followed by the second phase, which expanded to include sheep and cattle farmers, their family members and employees working on the farms. Program uptake varied from almost 100% amongst abattoir workers to only 43% in farmers. Subsequent Q fever notification and hospitalisation rates following the implementation of the vaccination program declined by more than 50% between 2002 and 2006 to the lowest levels on record (Fig. 1).12 The greatest decline occurred in young adult males, which typically make up majority of the abattoir ... • 6. The Problem Of Vaccines For Pharmaceutical Companies Another claim against immunization is personal opposition to big pharmaceutical companies. Some believe vaccines are charged to patients solely for profit. This pharmaceutical profit–motive can call into question product safety and integrity. The overwhelming majority of vaccines are not highly profitable though (Lam). Due to the massive investment of time and funds required to create vaccines, coupled with only marginal returns on this investment, pharmaceutical corporations do not focus on them. As result, nonprofit health organizations and political agencies such as the CDC, and the WHO, generally lead the charge in vaccine development. It is a real danger that companies will stop developing vaccines altogether (Lam). Drug companies instead concentrate on well, drugs. Continuous treatment medications require patients to purchase repeatedly, until it is no longer necessary. (In some cases, patients may even take certain drugs until death.) The time interval of vaccinations is, at the very least, yearly. In the case of the flu, rather than one flu shot, pharmaceutical companies can profit more from selling antivirals, painkillers, and a host of other treatments to patients that contract viral sickness. Medications, rather than cures are economically desirable. As a biochemistry student myself, upon graduating I face the decision between conducting decent paying scientific research or developing pharmaceuticals with the opportunity of making upwards of $200,000 a year for ... The FA–61 helicopter, designed by Heinrich Focke, first flew in June 1936, and was later used in publicity stunts by the Nazis. The FL–282 helicopter, designed by Anton Flettner, became operational with the German Navy, and over 1000 of them were produced. This helicopter utilized twin intermeshing rotors, had a forward speed of 90 mph (145 km/h), and could operate at an altitude of 13,000 ft (3,965 m) with a payload of 800 lb (360 kg). The first American helicopter was the VS–300, designed by Igor Sikorsky of the Vought–Sikorsky Company. The VS–300 was the first helicopter to use a tail rotor to counteract the torque produced by the main rotor, and it was this innovation that solved the last major hurdle in making helicopters practical flying vehicles. This design is now the most common in today's helicopters. • 9. Anti Vaccination Pros And Cons Karissa Santero SDV 101 Mid–term Exam Spring 2017 These two articles I came across are about the anti–vaccine movement. The anti–vaccine movement oppose the use of vaccinations. A vaccine is a biological agent that stimulates a person's immune system to produce immunity to a specific pathogen, protecting the person from a disease. Some of the activists "anti–vaxxers" and parents believe the vaccines are responsible for cases of autism, learning disabilities and death. The risk of outbreaks is even greater today. Children are not being immunized due to their parents personal beliefs. The number of school children not being vaccinated are growing rapidly. One of the articles talks about mainly the school children in Texas, but other states such as Washington and Colorado have the same amount of exemptions as Texas. Although people may think Texas is the center of the anti –vaccine movement, the law requires the kids to be vaccinated but parents do not need to submit proof of vaccination. Now for the anti–vaxxers who think vaccines cause autism, they do not. • 10. Q Fever Research Paper Q fever is a disease caused by infection with Coxiella burnetii, a bacterium that affects humans and other animals. This organism is uncommon, but may be found in cattle, sheep, goats and other domestic mammals, including cats and dogs. The infection results from inhalation of a spore–like small cell variant, and from contact with the milk, urine, feces, vaginal mucus, or semen of infected animals. Rarely, the disease is tick borne. The incubation period is 9–40 days. Humans are vulnerable to Q fever, and infection can result from even a few organisms. The bacterium is an obligate intracellular pathogenic parasite. Signs and symptoms Incubation period is usually two to three weeks. During its course, the disease can progress to an atypical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an extremely low infectious dose, making C. burnetii one of the most infectious known organisms. Disease occurs in two stages: an acute stage that presents with headaches, chills, and respiratory symptoms, and an insidious chronic stage. While most infections clear up spontaneously, treatment with tetracycline or doxycycline appears to reduce the symptomatic duration and reduce the likelihood of chronic infection. A combination of erythromycin and rifampin is highly effective in curing the disease, and vaccination with Q–VAX vaccine is effective for prevention of it. The bacteria use a Type IVB secretion system known as Icm/Dot to inject effector proteins called Ank proteins into the host. These effectors increase the bacteria's ability to survive inside the host cell. In Legionella pneumophila, which uses the same secretion system and also injects Ank proteins, survival is enhanced because these Ank proteins interfere with fusion of the bacteria–containing vacuole with the host's degradation endosomes. The Decision Of Childhood Vaccination Following contentious medical declarations in years gone by, the decision of childhood vaccination has proven to be highly controversial, with various stakeholders possessing very strong stances. either defending individual freedoms or the track record of medical science. Following the death of several young children, and the implementation of the "no jab, no pay" scheme, political journalist Waleed Aly produced a measured, well considered editorial published in 'The Age' on the 17 April, 2015 titled 'Sledgehammer cannot win battle of the needle'. The slightly hyperbolic comparison between the two groups forcing puts the readers in an uncomfortable position where they are perhaps 'forced' to reevaluate what unintended consequences the "no jab, no pay" policy may induce. Adding clarity to this line of argument, Aly is then logically reminding the audience that the main objective of the policy is to "get more people immunised"; and so to further dismiss the merit and perceived gains that come with "exiling]" anti–vaxxers, and establish the idea that "no jab, no pay" is ineffective, Aly tactically references "health experts", who agree that currently proposals are unlikely to provide "practical difference". When you look at your typical household maintenance items you may not notice that they are all owned by the same over arching company. TTI group owns nine different brands under their company. (2016) Ranging from outdoor products to floor care, TTI group has the home maintenance products covered. It all started in 1985 with a bipartisanship between Horst Pudwill and Roy Chi Chung, since then TTI has become a leader in home improvement power tools worldwide. This was achieved by the thoughtful consideration by both owners, through the implementation of several different techniques and management styles. In this paper I will describe the multiple techniques used in making TTI group the successful business it is today. One large focus of TTI is to continue its aggressive culture. The culture has since day one been to strive to advance the home goods department of the industry. In recent years, the company has hired younger aged employees; the older employees were having a hard time adjusting to the style of work and culture the younger generation bring to the company. As a solution, "The Board and senior management continuously update, develop and improve the internal control system of the Group." (TTI Group website). By doing so TTI ensures fluidity between all employees, which increases overall work quality, output, and employee satisfaction. The MARK–1 (in 1948) had seven instruction of trivial complexity, yet a contemporary machine like the VAX has more than three hundred instructions. In addition, its instructions can be more complicated. Any high performance implementation of the VAX has to rely on complex implementation techniques such as pipelining, caches and prefetching. During the late sixties, there was much experimentation with very complex instructions. It was made possible by the interpreter. Hardly anyone thought of designing simpler machines. In 1970, a group led by IBM's John Cocke, worked on a high–performance minicomputer, named the 801. IBM never marketed this machine but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Very less number of instruction formats (less than four), a few number of instructions (around 150) and a few addressing modes (less than four) are needed. Disadvantage of RISC With the increase in the length of the instructions, the complexity increases for the RISC processors to execute due to its character cycle per instruction. The Pharmacological Treatments For Opiates, Drugs, And Drugs In this essay, the effectiveness of the pharmacological treatments for opiates, nicotine, cocaine, and alcohol in relation to addiction relief and prevention will be critically evaluated. This will be accomplished through an investigation of the respective substances and their current treatment's methods and levels of success, such as the use of Substitution Therapy, agonist and antagonist treatments, and preventative drugs. Furthermore, the generation of directions for future research and treatments will be performed, particularly assessing the potentiality for remedying addiction through substance–tailored vaccinations and suggestions for solidifying a scientifically accepted methodology for the treatment of cocaine dependency. Concurrently, pharmacological treatment efficacy has been assessed heavily within academic texts. The present essay will incorporate a multitude of these findings, in order to appraise the effectiveness of current addiction prevention proposals in determining empirically and clinically substantive degeneration of the largely aggressive symptoms, and the possible detrimental short and long–term effects, correlated with addiction to opiates, nicotine, cocaine, and alcohol. It is becoming more and more common for parents and doctors to blame health problems on the side effects of immunizations. I learned about the importance of this topic from working at a daycare. Over the past two years, we have had a few parents who are completely against immunizing their children and that causes other parents to be concerned with their children's health. • 19. The Invention Of Modern Medicine A revolutionary invention in modern medicine has changed the world in the past fifty years. In the 20th century, diseases such as polio, diphtheria, and rubella were commonplace and claimed millions of lives. Now they are something of the past– these illnesses are considered 'eradicated diseases'. This massive increase in population immunization is due to the invention of vaccines and artificially acquired immunity. Vaccinations are critically important in preventing and maintaining individual and public health concerns. When people have infections or illnesses for the first time their immune systems have to fight them off. At first the invader is defined by foreign and unknown by an individual's immune system, but it progressively gets better and better until the infection is eradicated. By then, your immune system has 'memorized' how to fight them off, resulting in what is known as naturally acquired immunity. Unfortunately naturally acquired immunity has some serious health risks such as being permanently crippled, dying, and the potential risk of passing on the disease to others around you. This is where vaccines come into play. Vaccines harmlessly imitate infections to stimulate an individual's immune system. The artificial 'infection' is taken down by the body very quickly with virtually no side effects or risk of death. Your immune system has 'memorized' how to fight off a certain disease through training wheels, and once a vaccinated individual encounters that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The efficacy of vaccines in reducing morbidity and mortality, particularly in children, is undeniable. Per the World Health Organization, childhood vaccinations prevent approximately 2–3 million deaths per year worldwide (WHO, 2016). In the United States, the value of immunizations is clearly displayed by comparing pre–vaccine era morbidity/mortality rates to post–vaccine era in regards to vaccine–preventable diseases. For example, prior to the diphtheria vaccine in the 1920's, 206,000 people annually contracted the disease resulting in 15,520 deaths (History of Vaccines, 2009). However, between 2004 and 2014, only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Technological advancements of the internet and social media have allowed everyone quick and easy access to anti–vaccination propaganda. Currently, most women of child–bearing age who will be making vaccination decisions for their children are Millennials – a term used to describe those born between 1980 and the early 2000s. Millennials are less inclined than older generations to vaccinate their children. This can mainly be attributed to their utilization of readily available health information regarding vaccines from the media and internet rather than asking and trusting a doctor. For example, a recent study shows that 70 percent of people are influenced by what they read on the internet regarding vaccination information (Kata, 2012). The act of vaccination has been discussed frequently over the past decade, with arguments from supporters of vaccination and anti–vax advocates impacting on the opinions of others regarding child vaccination. While the focus is primarily on the act of vaccinating babies and young children as well as adolescents in high school, this report will investigate into the "mandatory nature" of vaccination as this is a current contemporary issue affecting Australians. The question of 'Should all people in government education centres go through mandatory vaccination?' will be further explored through three focus questions including 'Why were vaccinations introduced?', 'What are the benefits and risks of vaccines?' and 'Should vaccination be mandatory for adults working in education centres?' In order to gain highly effective and relevant information, primary sources in the form of an interview by a Nurse Unit Manager from the Immunisation Section of the South Australian Communicable Disease Control Branch and a survey of the general public have been conducted, as well as the use of secondary sources from various websites, including medical journal articles and news reports. • 22. Vaccines Are Not Only Safe On the side of defending vaccinations, many people, as well as myself, stand firm in our beliefs, that vaccinations are good. The fact of the matter is there wouldn't be such thing as vaccinations if they didn't work. I believe a lot of the troubles come from the Autism scare, which I do understand is a frightening thought for a lot of parents, but with countless studies conducted and all pointing to a negative correlation of the two, I think its time to stop using that as an excuse, with Steven Salzberg a writer for Forbes saying, "Most of the anti–vax crowd have no scientific training or expertise, which might explain (but doesn't excuse) their complete ignorance of the science. Over the past 15 years, dozens of studies involving hundreds of thousands of people have shown convincingly that neither vaccines nor any of the ingredients in them are linked to autism. Vaccines are not only safe, but they are perhaps the greatest public health success in the history of civilization" (Forbes 2015). It is due to the many people who believe they are smarter than science and medical research that we are having the measles and whooping cough scares that are occurring today. Without the use of vaccines many of the diseases that were under control, or completely depleted are now slowly starting to reappear. Measles being the biggest offender, with it said to have been fully eradicated in 2000, we had over 600 cases of measles in 2014. For all of the measles cases you read about, as ... This is the sentiment of a mother, a caretaker who has suffered along with her autistic son in a daily struggle of lost motor skills and bureaucratic red tape. Why? Vaccinations. Now, before we go any further, I must tell you: I am not anti–vaxx. Other than skipping the occasional flu shot out of a lack of necessity, I am up to date on every possible vaccination a nineteen year old American female is expected to have. But this piece doesn't fight for one side or the other, it doesn't seek to make a statement on if someone should receive vaccinations or not. It is about the misrepresentation of this group that is going on in the mass media, sensationalizing the members and arguments and essentially sequestering pro–choice–for–vaccination believers into nothing but Facebook groups, blog posts, and opinion pieces. Also, most of these pieces reference facts and statistics from state and national Departments of Health, and medical professionals. And this is fine, obviously: they are reporting, which is an essential part of a journalist's job. But it is primarily the choices surrounding these facts that are at fault. • 24. Parents And Children Should Not Have Vaccinations Some critics believe parents and children should not have vaccinations. There's still a debate going on because the medical community does not agree. Healthcare professionals believes everyone should be vaccinated and it is very important. They believe vaccinations protect you when traveling, prevent childhood illnesses, it's painless, and you take it once and you are protected for life (Pros and Cons, 2015). These diseases from other countries can be brought back into the United States and cause an outbreak of diseases. Other people believe vaccinations are 90%–95% effective, but there is still 5% that can still come in contact with the disease (Pros and Cons, 2015). They think it doesn't capture the illness and immunity lasts longer if created by natural circumstances (Pros and Cons, 2015). Some schools require certain vaccinations to be taken before starting to school. Fourteen studies have been conducted by Amanda Peet, a vaccine manufacturer, and she believes there is no association between autism and vaccines. No real studies have ever been done but medical professions believe this is fake (Peet, n.d). Whether or not a parent cannot pay for vaccinations is no problem. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) distributes vaccines to state health departments and other local agencies. These agencies distribute them to private–physicians' offices, at no charge to those receiving vaccines (Vaccines for Children, 2014). The Childhood Immunization Support Program (CISP) has ... Along with many other diseases like Chicken pox, polio, or malaria may have not been fully "cured," but they have been limited and are very rare due to the vaccinations that have been received for generations. While some people still think having your children vaccinated against common illnesses such as chicken pox and the flu is dangerous, I myself think it is perfectly fine to have your children vaccinated on the schedule recommended by pediatricians. Some parents choose to have their children vaccinated on a delayed schedule, which I still find acceptable. However, the parents who choose not to have their children vaccinated at all are a danger to the public. Unvaccinated people can cause outbreaks of viruses that have been eradicated. In late 2014 a measles outbreak occurred when an unvaccinated child who was a carrier of the disease visited Disneyland. This caused 173 people from seventeen different states to contract the virus that was eradicated from the United States in 2002. In order for measles to be under control 94–99% of the population must be vaccinated. With the recent trend of not vaccinating, measles, along with other once eradicated, or nearly eradicated diseases are making a come–back. However, as the years went along, the fear of life–saving vaccines took hold of millions of parents. Due to the suspicions created by the anti–VAX group, the lack of trust in America's doctors is near the bottom of all the industrial countries: 24th out of 29 countries surveyed. Recent research has found that those who have the least faith in the government are the least likely to vaccinate in the case of an outbreak of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. A Brief Summary Of Scanlan's Things Fall Apart It's not the first time they've done something like this, although previously it had been more for warmth than solace. But Scanlan gets it, he really does. And it's Vax asking, openly, for the simplest form of comfort there is: don't let me be alone. The twins pull the thick bedspreads from the mattresses and carry them into the large den nearest the corridor with their bedrooms. Scanlan commands several of his ethereal servants to shift the furniture to the sides of the room, against the bookcases. (He hasn't found the time or interest to crack the books open since their creation. The pages could be blank; he liked the look of them, is all.) Vex's braid is half–undone and tangled. Her dark hair falls in her face as she unrolls her blankets across the thick carpet – it's shag, of course. Vax sits back on his heels, fists planted on his thighs, watching Vex as she works. When Vex finishes, she collapses to the blankets and curls up, hugging her knees and pressing her forehead against them. Vax gives Scanlan a wordless look and pulls the blankets over him and his sister. The blankets stir as he curls around his sister, one arm moving over her waist. He tips his forehead down against her hair and doesn't say anything.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. Summary Of Anti Vaxers By Claire Harvey The issue of vaccines was addressed in an opinion article by Claire Harvey titled Anti–vaxers, you are baby killers published on the 22nd of March 2015. Appealing to parents who are outraged by the anti–vaccine parents, the writer contends, in an angry tone, that parents who don't vaccinate their children are irresponsible and should be labelled as 'baby killers'. Keeping her target audience in mind, Harvey manages to persuade readers about the importance of vaccinating babies and making sure that others do as well by using inclusive language and evidence. Her vocab choice and use of loaded language also helps support her argument. Claire Harvey creates a 'us and them' mentality with her use of inclusive language. She targets two different groups of readers in the article; those who don't vaccinate their children and those that do vaccinate their children. It's quickly established that Harvey wants to create this divide in the article by targeting those who don't vaccinate their children with sentences like 'you killed the twelve babies who have died of whooping cough in the past six years' ... Her byline prompts readers to think about their morals and question what they would do for a baby. Out of context, it seems like a simple moral question but in the first paragraph, readers discover that is it an attack on the 'anti–vaxers'. The image of baby Riley is an appeal to the emotions of her readers. By including a photo of the child who inspired the article, readers are prompted to feel sadness and guilt about the loss of this child. It's a reminder to the target audience that they should be speaking up about this issue so that another child like Riley doesn't die from a preventable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Anti Vaccination Movement ( 283 ) Vaccines are helpful. They heal sick people, prevent diseases, and strengthen immune systems. In the words of Bartoszewska, Patel, and Carter–Blanks, "Since their discovery, some of the world's deadliest diseases have been eradicated, countless others have been prevented, and hope continues to be found as new and improved vaccinations are being developed" (283). Yet as the efficiency of vaccines keeps growing, so does the number of people opposed to them. The anti–vaccination movement, or AVM for short, is the term used to describe the growing wave of hesitancy or outright refusal to vaccinate. This normally would not be so controversial; however, some parents who are anti–vax also refuse to vaccinate their children, which is incredibly serious. It is important for us to understand the anti–vaccination movement because we as people do not make decisions in a vacuum, we make decisions in an environment with other people and those decisions usually tend to affect those other people. This issue is largely a psychological issue, and just as psychology can help people understand other people, it can also help us understand anti–vaccinators. Much of the reasoning behind the AVM can be explained through psychological concepts. The perception of risk plays a large role in anti –vaccination; the belief that vaccines cause autism is one of the main reasons why easily–worried parents may not vaccinate their children (Wang, Baras, and Buttenheim 6703). Beginners often produce simple programs without effort within their first day using it. The elements of the Unix environment have been called software tools. A software tool is very much like a component, but a bit different. Throughout this piece, we'll refer to components as "tools," but remember that you can almost always substitute "component" for "tool." In Unix, the standard shell utilities are all tools. So is the shell. A tool takes a standard data format–– lines of textual input –– and produces output in the same format. No special code is needed to handle data types; everyone agrees on a simple format and does a small amount of translation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The word "hacking" is here used the way the non–hacking public thinks it is used, to mean breaking into somebody else's computer. Its purpose is to expand and clarify the information about the TOPS–20 operating system, which runs on DECsystem–20 mainframes. The Mentor basically lumped this system in with TOPS–10 and didn't note important differences between the two. I will here reproduce in full what The Mentor had to say about TOPS–10 and about VMS, which are the parent and the offspring of TOPS–20. However, it is not difficult for the local management to add such measures, or others such as a delay of several seconds after each attempt. And unlike Unix, it is difficult to evade these even once you're in. Without heavy in–depth knowledge, you can't test a username– password combination except through a system call, which will enforce delays and limited failures and such against password–trying programs. So, TOPS–20 is easy to defend against the "database hack", in which you try many different common passwords with many different usernames. (Unix is much more vulnerable to this.) But any particular system, especially a lax one like a college machine (DEC is always popular in academia), might have little defense here. But you might not know how much defense until too late. Do try the GUEST username. But TOPS–20 can be very vulnerable to trojan horses. See, there's this thing called the Wheel bit. • 40. Tetanus, Diphtheria And Whooping Cough ( Pertussis ) Vaccination has strongly integrated into modern medicine, and several generations have grown up without being exposed to epidemics of rubella, whooping cough, measles, etc. However, during the recent decade an anti–vaccine movement has emerged, powered by the complaints and claims of parents in on the internet and videos associated with the supposed specific effects of vaccines. Many mothers choose not to immunize their kids, or refuse from certain vaccinations. Before the major vaccination campaigns of the 1960s and '70s, diseases like tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough (pertussis) killed thousands of young children every year. Today, deaths from these diseases are extraordinarily rare in Australia, and the remainder of the developed world("health.gov.au", 2015). Even with the knowledge of the reality that vaccinations have greatly reduced the diagnosis of many deadly diseases, there is still a group of individuals who refuse to vaccinate their children out of fear. Despite the long history of safety and effectiveness, vaccines have had their fair share of criticism, some parents and a small fringe of doctors question whether or not vaccinating kids are worth what they perceive as the risks. In recent years, the anti–vaccination movement, largely based on poor science and fear–mongering, has become more vocal and even hostile (Hughes 2015). Thanks to a reduction in parental willingness to immunize children, vaccine–preventable diseases are on the rise. Last year, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Negative Effects Of Vaccinations The discovery of vaccines is one of the biggest medical achievements of the 20th century. Ever since the experiment performed by Edward Jenner where he inoculated a boy with cowpox to gain immunity from deadly smallpox, the vaccination has greatly reduced the rate of infection and death by vaccine–preventable diseases. However, when receiving the vaccination became a compulsory law in the mid–1800's in the UK, protestors shot up expressing that the laws go against their civil liberty. This was the beginning of the anti–vaccination movement, a movement which has not ceased to this day, full of people with deeply rooted beliefs that vaccinations aren't as beneficial as the general public believes they are. The anti–vax movement, a small yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the United States alone there are 30,000 deaths annually that could be have been saved by a simple vaccine. Another reason for immunity decline is the article published on the research done by Andrew Wakefield in 1998 on the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine and its contents causing autisms. This claim caused a decrease in MMR vaccines, especially in the UK. And because measles is highly exploitative even in the smallest decrease in population immunity it resurfaced and ended up killing two children. Wakefield's credentials are now stripped and the research discredited because all 12 cases were based on parents recalls or beliefs and not one of the cases studied were left unaltered. However, it gave momentum to the anti–vaccination movement and it is still a common reason used by parents to avoid vaccinating their child because mass media allows false information to spread quickly and be blown out of proportion. The internet allows anybody to look up any information whether credible or not, leading to citizen doing their research on vaccines, feeding into the false ideas and potentially increasing the number of anti–vaxxers that weren't originally opposed to vaccines. Many parents are also concerned with the idea that too many vaccines can cause an "immune system overload".
