Summary Of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
The Weinstein Company, Netflix, and IMAX are teaming up to produce the movie Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend through both the streaming and in the IMAX theaters. Sarah
Moran states this has angered AMC, Regal, and Cinemark as they feel this is cutting them out of the
distributing process and have refused to screen the film. This article continues to discuss how movie
theaters do not want to work with streaming services such as Netflix, and even more so when they
believe new films being streamed online as well in theaters are a huge threat.
Sarah Moran continues to state in her article about how much easier it is to rent or own movie and
watching it at home where most televisions are flat and widescreen. The TV's we have now

Examples Of Allusions In The Outsiders
The Outsiders In the novel, "The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton" allusions played a big part in the book.
An example of this is when Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally and go to Dairy Queen and engorged
themselves in barbeque and banana splits. "We stopped at a Dairy Queen and the first thing I got
was a Pepsi. Johnny and I gorged on barbeque sandwiches and banana splits," (Hinton 83). The
reason the Author used Dairy Queen as an allusion is because Dairy Queen is a well known
restaurant and it came out in the 1940s, so it was a still kinda new thing and very popular to go to.
Another example of an allusion is how the Madras T–shirts are constantly brought up in the book. "I
really couldn't see what the Socs would have to sweat about–good grades, good cars,

Comparison between the Movie and Book: The Outsiders
It is an experience of a lifetime to read a story in a book and watch the movie. The book and movie,
The Outsiders, share many similarities and differ in equally many ways. S. E. Hinton narrated the
Outsiders, and this high–quality narration was equally translated to the movie (2). However, they
seem to vary in so many ways. This write–up examines the similarities and differences between the
book and movie, The Outsiders, in terms of the plot, characters, setting, style, and theme.
The Outsiders Novel
This is S.E. Hinton's coming–of–age novel first published by Viking Press in 1967. Hinton was only

When Ponyboy returns home at 2 a.m. in the morning, Darry is agitated and begins to yell at Pony
and Soda, all in a fit of rage. Darry slaps Ponyboy, causing him to run away with Johnny. Later after
Ponyboy calms down, he begins wondering whether running away from all this was a good idea.
When these boys wander into a park within the neighborhood, the Socs' Randy, Bob, and three
others confront them, and after they exchange derogatory remarks, the tension intensifies after
Ponyboy spits at the rival gang. The Socs grab Ponyboy and attempt to drown him in a fountain. His
gang member Johnny, feeling anxious and terrified because Bob had brutally jumped him on a
previous occasion, spontaneously stabs Bob, causing his accidental death (Coppola 11.30). Johnny
and Ponyboy, now feeling frightened and without a clue of what to do next for they are well aware
that those who take life in Oklahoma face execution on the electric chair, decide to seek the counsel
of Dally, who gives them some cash and a loaded gun and asks them to hide inside an abandoned
church in Windrixville. While staying there, Pony decides to cut and dye his hair to disguise.
When Dally pays them a visit, he talks of the intensified tension between Greasers and Socs
following Bob's death. Dally agrees to take them home

Drive In Theater Essay
As a mother, I often wonder what all can be done, as a family, where we can go and have a great
time. I imagine going to a drive in theater, the excitement of enjoying a movie in my own way. This
is an all American pastime. My children will have fond memories of everyone driving into the
theater, going to the playground and swinging on a swing while watching their favorite movies.
Memories filled with joy, laughter, milk shakes, eating their favorite junk food, and being able to
dress up in a costume of whatever character is featured in a certain movie. They will want to bring
their children, their children's children to recreate those nostalgic feelings of being able to enjoy a
drive–in theater. Let's say you and your sweetheart want a date night. Grab a blanket and some
pillows, relax under the stars for a romantic comedy on our plush green lawn. You'll be able to
snuggle up next to your sweetie, the weather is just perfect, and breezy. Fall in love under the stars,
maybe even propose to her. This movie theater will always keep that memory alive, and in turn you
will be able to bring your future children. Do you want the drive–in experience without having to be
outside? We have just the solution. Everyone can come and enjoy our restaurant with car seating and
the look of being in a drive–in. Friends and family will come in and sit at one of our 50' style car–
booths and be able to enjoy a great burger and a shake while watching one of the featured films for
that evening.

Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed
Prepare to be Boarded:
Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed
From the moment consumers were able to use the internet to get music, software, and movies,
piracy has had serious financial implications for the motion picture industry. Copyright protection
presents some difficulty in illegally obtaining movies, but there are many avenues around most of
these systems. The RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, has tried several legal
ploys to prevent people from accessing this material, but many consumers continue to access it with
little concern. Much like the music industry, which was challenged to reinvent its distribution
model, the movie industry has to do the same thing. To counter the amount of piracy the movie
studios must develop new systems for content delivery including streaming new release movies at
home. First, the current system of forcing consumers to go to a movie theater is no longer desirable
for many. Entertainment seekers can now get almost instant access to desired content, whether it's
music or movies via streaming services like Netflix. These services exist due to the demand for
them and to satiate the desire for content when and where the customer wants it. While my
generation patiently grew up waiting for Thursday night for The Cosby Show the current generation
is not oriented around content on a television or at a specific date and time. As this younger
generation becomes paying customers their desires will have to be considered with

Subaru Ad Vs. Volkswagen Commercials
Both ads use pathos to convince their audience, they both appeal to your emotions. The subaru ad
makes you feel bad for the people that were involved in the crash, even though you know that they
survived. The volkswagen commercial inspires you not to text while you're driving because you can
cause and accidents in just a second. Both products are being introduced until the end of the
commercial. They both start by showing you everything that's going on in the commercial, the cars
are crashed but they are trying to make you purchase their vehicles and to stop texting, and the very
end they show the brand that produced the commercial. The product for the subaru ad is their strong

The Importance Of Enjoying Hi-Res Audio
Hi–Res audio is just a fancy way of saying that the music is at a high resolution to provide the
nuances of sound that the artist intended. Enjoying high–quality audio is something that can be done
at home and which only requires a minimal adding to of the components already found in your
home theater in order to enjoy a superior quality sound that will make new titles, as well as old
favorites sound impressive.
So you're sold on the idea, but what has to be set up to make it happen? Here's what is needed in
order to be able to enjoy Hi–Res audio.
THE AUDIO PLAYER
Because Hi–Res audio files are digital, the audio player must be too. So that means the player will

"concert" and others. You'll also find such enhancements as Bluetooth and other audio streaming
technologies, along with setup technologies for automating a well–modulated sound between all the

History of the Drive-In Movie Theater Essay
History of the Drive–In Movie Theater
The story of the drive–in movie theater begins with one man. That man was Richard Milton
Hollingshead, Jr., born on February 25, 1900, the "father" of the drive–in.
The drive–in got its humble beginnings in the driveway of Hollingshead's Riverton, New Jersey
home, at 212 Thomas Avenue. This is where his first experimentations took place. Setting a 1928
Kodak projector on the hood of the family car, he projected the film onto a screen he had nailed to a
tree. He tested the potential hazards of foul weather by turning on his lawn sprinkler to simulate a
rainstorm. His home radio sitting behind the screen to provide sound, Hollingshead sat in his car
watching and listening. The car windows up or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pennsauken Township was the location. The theater was called the Automobile Movie Theatre. The
marquee simply stated "Drive–in Theatre."
Opening night drew a full house. Many were there for free, however, as Hollingshead and Smith had
distributed free passes to as many local media as they could. The first film ever shown at a drive–in
was the 1932 release Wife Beware, starring Adolphe Menjou. The partners complained they were
not able to obtain a first–run film from a distributor. This was due to the fear that the gate at indoor
houses would be lessened. This problem would plague drive–ins forever. Many shorts accompanied
the feature. Admission was twenty–five cents per person. Three or more in a car were admitted for
the price of one dollar.
Initially the plan was to have three shows a night. There would be one at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30
P.M. But in order to fit all shows in, films had to be edited. This system did not work well.
Apparently the partners realized this mistake early; for after only the second night, the schedule was
changed to only two shows a night. Now there would be one at 8:45 and 10:45 P.M. The program
changed twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The two men also learned early on about the
difficulties in preparing a quality scheduling format. The films had to be started early enough to
allow time to fit both in, but late enough to be visible against the fading sunlight of

Personal Narrative-Impact Dance Theater
As I arrived to the theater, many memories came flooding back to my mind of my times being on
stage. But that day was not another day on stage; it was a day in the audience. I was at the theater to
help Impact Dance Theater with their winter show. When I walked into the lobby, I saw my teacher
and the others standing around waiting to be told what to do. About the time I walked to them
another volunteer came over as well. "Today you guys will be ushers" the volunteer said "I need
some of you to scan tickets and some to hand out programs." I was one of usher's who would be
scanning tickets. We waited about another 20 minutes in the lobby before told where we would be
at. The manager of the theater walked over to us with a pleasant smile. "Thank you so much" she
stated "We will go over the rules the theater has and then I will tell you where to go." Once she told
us the rules and where we would be, we received our usher badges and when on our way. ... Show

The doors did not open until 2:30pm, so I some time to myself. During this time I sat in the balcony

cleared the stage. The tech crew started checking lights and sound while the dancers ran their
numbers. I got distracted by them and time flew by. I checked my phone and it was 2:30pm, so I
went back to the doors and waited for the audience to arrive. There was now a man playing
Christmas songs on the piano. People are now being to slowly file in. I started scanning tickets, and
only scanned about 25 tickets. It is now 3 o'clock and the audience is in their seats and the show has
started. I was lucky and got to stand on the inside of the house to open the door for people as
needed. I watched first act and opened the door about three times. It is now intermission and my

Personal Narrative: W Is For Wicked
W is for Wicked I love musicals, and I had only ever seen Limestone and Cornstalk perform their
plays, which is completely different from seeing a musical done by people who act for a living. This
past November, I got to go see Wicked with my sister in Wisconsin. I was supposed to go with my
sister, Theresa, and my mom, but there were not enough seats in our budget to allow for my mom to
go as well. I drove up to Wisconsin with my brother, Jimmy, and the co–founders of his game
company, as they had a game convention in Madison they wanted to go to. Well, we got to my
sister's house on Friday, and the showing we were going to was the first Saturday performance. We
got ready to go, by ready to go, I mean painting nails, trying on shoes, and doing make–up. ... Show

We went to the most elegant restaurant in the whole world for lunch; Culver's. It was probably one
of the messiest ones I'd ever seen, and apparently EVERYONE in Wisconsin goes to Culver's for
lunch, because it was jam packed, shoulder to shoulder, and it was just a small one off the
ainterstate. After finishing lunch, we continued on our trek. To be honest, most of the drive was
pretty boring, but it was scary multiple times, which is more than a little strange. At one point, while
my sister was driving, a few people on the interstate wouldn't let her get in the lane she needed to be
in to reach the exit, luckily we still managed to squeeze in, so we didn't end up being late to the

Drive In Theatre History
June 6, 2008 the flag flying over the U.S. Capitol commemorated the 75th birthday of a distinctive
slice of Americana: the drive–in movie theater.
It was on that day in 1933 that Richard Hollingshead opened the first theater for the auto–bound in
Camden, N.J. People paid 25 cents per car as well as per person to see the British comedy Wives
Beware under the stars.
The concept of showing movies outdoors wasn't novel; people often watched silent films on screens
set up at beaches or other places boasting an abundance of sky. However, it took an auto–parts
salesman such as Hollingshead to see the genius in giving a car–loving society one more activity
they could do in their vehicles.
He first conceived the drive–in as the answer to a problem. ... Show more content on

"Digital cinema will be both an opportunity and a threat for drive–in owners," said the association's
director of media and research Patrick Corcoran in an e–mail. "An opportunity because digital will
allow them to get new movies sooner than they do–they are often weeks behind the break for new
films. It's a threat in that the digital transition will be expensive to manage, and some may not be
able to do it."
Kopp of course bets on the drive–ins' survival. In 2005, he and his wife bought the Raleigh Road
Outdoor Theatre in Henderson, N.C., for $22,000 on eBay. He said they've invested about $300,000
since to clear the seven acres of weeds and modernize the technology. Today the theatre can
accommodate 265 cars and show movies in a 60–foot–by–80–foot screen. The sound comes through
car radios.
Film fare of the Raleigh Road and other drive–ins typically consists of G–rated films, Kopp said.
Disney movies thrive, as do animated films.

Movie Stereotypes
I am a movie fanatic. My friends count on me to know movie trivia. If one asks who was the
pigtailed little girl in E.T.: The Extra–Terrestrial, I know the answer: Drew Barrymore. I also
remember every big Oscar awarded since I was in grade school. What was the best picture 1994? It
was Forrest Gump. My friends, however, have stopped asking me if I want to go out to the movies.
While I love movies as much as ever, the inconvenience of going out, the temptations of the theater,
and the behavior of some patrons are reasons for me to wait and rent the video.
To begin with, I just don't enjoy the general hassle of the evening. Since small local movie theaters
are a thing of the past, I have to drive for fifteen minutes to get to the nearest multiplex. The parking
lot is shared with several restaurants and a supermarket, so it's always jammed. I have to drive
around at a snail's pace until I spot another driver backing out. Then it's time to stand in an endless
line, with the constant threat that tickets for the show I want will sell out. If we do get tickets, the
theater will be so crowded that I won't be able to sit with my friends, or we'll have to sit in a front ...

Netflix Case Study
The Big Red Monster vs. The Theatres The arrival of Netflix and other streaming services have had
an enormous impact on the Television and Movie industries. With these changes that have happened
comes drastic opinions on economic utility. Economic utility is the amount of satisfactory a
customer is granted from a product or service. On one hand you have the customer that would rather
stay home and watch a movie on Netflix. On the other hand you have a customer that would go to
the theatre to watch the newest movies. These are the movies that people on netflix can't experience
yet. In this project I am going to discuss the impact that Netflix has had on the movie and television
industries. There are four different variables of economic utility that have evolved with the arrival of
Netflix. These include product form, time, place, and product possession. First off, I'm going to talk
about the impact the movie industry had on economy before the arrival of Netflix. Before Netflix,
movie theatres had different competitors. Some of these include sporting events, restaurants, and
clubs. People would have to decide what they wanted to do during their free time. One of the
economic utilities that was very different before Netflix was place. Unless people were using the
internet to watch videos they would have to go to the theatres or rent a movie to take home. They
were not able to just pull up the Netflix app and start watching a movie. Before there were few

What Makes A Fast Food Restaurant?
Ancient Rome and Greece had thermopoliums, which is where ready–to–eat food was served for
travelers. Unfortunately, when the volcanoes erupted in Pompeii, the thermopoliums were
destroyed. The thermopolium is often compared to the modern day fast food restaurant, due to the
already prepared food and quick service. Everyone has eaten fast food in their life, but do they know
the history and consequences of choosing the fast food life?
White Castle, which opened in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921 is credited as the first fast food restaurant.
White Castle's founders decided to change how the public perceived hamburgers, since many people
saw hamburgers as low quality. For this reason, they built their restaurant so that the customers
could see their food being prepared. The term fast food was not widely used when White Castle first
opened. The actual term fast food was recognized in the Merriam–Webster dictionary in 1951. A fast
food restaurant is generally known for its fast food cuisine, minimal table service, and quick service.
The customers place their own orders and take care of picking up their own condiments, utensils,
etc. The Curb Service started as a novelty at an A&W shop, but soon spread nationwide.
In 1955, April 15, the first McDonald's restaurant opened in Des Plaines, Illinois. The first assembly
line was introduced in 1937. An assembly line is a line of method where meals are put together very
quickly by several employees. McDonald's growth spread tremendously

Why Drive Car
Why drive to the movies when we have the luxuries of Netflix in the comfort of our own home? A
recent Ford patent has given us all a new reason to jump in the car for the movies, except you won't
actually need to drive there.
NEW FORD PATENT WILL TURN CAR INTO A CINEMA
The recently released patent shows the automaker's plans to offer a drop–down projection screen
that will cover car windshields. This will effectively turn your car into a four–wheeled cinema,
however, the imagination can lead to several other risque ideas for this technology. Perhaps a
fascinating part of this is that it will not render your car useless. Yes, people can still drive
somewhere and watch a movie at the same time. You could even drive to the movies while watching
a movie. This will give you a great chance to catch up on a film before going to see its sequel in the
real theaters ( if those will even exist in the future). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When your car is in self–driving mode, the screen will fully cover the windshield. This not only
provides a complete cinematic experience but helps those forget that a robot has your lives in its
hands. Don't fret, though, there will be an on–board computer to monitor the other computer that's
driving. Kind of like a co–pilot. If things get too real, the driver can take over. In manual mode, the
screen would disappear on the windshield, but there would be smaller, in–dash displays to take over.
If something's up, the sensors will automatically cut off your movie screen and give you control.

However there is a big difference between seeing something online and experiencing it in person.

The Ford Wyoming Drive Development
A. Background Info and Context
The Ford Wyoming Drive–In (Now known as the Ford Drive–In) is located at 10400 Ford Rd in
Dearborn, Michigan with the cross streets at Ford Road and Wyoming. Interstate I–94 is just nearby.
The city of Dearborn grew rapidly in the nineteenth century. The families of Dumais, Drouillard,
and Cissne began the formulation of the city. The name of the city came from Lewis Cass, the
governor of the Michigan Territory at the time. He named it from his friend Major General Henry
Dearborn. In 1825 much construction took place in the city as The Detroit Arsenal moved out the
city for safety concerns onto Chicago Rd which is now Michigan Avenue. The arsenal was used as a

managed his company by implementing upgraded techniques for retrieving the clay such as steam
shovels and the work accumulated an approximate one point five million bricks within the first year.
The company continued to do very well with projects to Dearborn's and Detroit's development,
however a snag occurred with the economy. The Great Depression took its toll on the brickyard
silencing the industry for a while and developments stopped. The Haggerty bricks were able to find
some work to be used with President Roosevelt's New Deal projects, which survived the company
until all the majority of the clay was dug out from the property. John Haggerty himself became
Wayne County's Road Commissioner and later president of Michigan State Fair Association. He
became involved in politics as well and was a Michigan delegate to the Republican National
Convention. From 1927 to 1929 John was appointed as the Republican Party treasurer and his final
role in the poitical main stage was when we was the Michigan Secretary of State from 1927–1930.
The brickyard the Haggerty family left behind after all the clay had been removed had become
littered with rough terrain and remnants of large holes dug out throughout the property. With the
difficult soil, not many developments could take place there.

The Influence Of Ford On American Culture
At the start of the 20th Century, there were 8,000 cars in the US and 25,000 worldwide. By 1985
there were more than 375 million cars worldwide ("Car"). One company that changed the way of car
production was The Ford Motor Company. The owner of this company was named Henry Ford. He
was born on July 30, 1863, and died on April 7, 1947, (Gelderman). Ford came up with an idea
where he would just make one car model called the Model T so he could mass produce cars. He did
this so that he would use the same types of materials and save money. Doing this also reduced waste
because he used the same materials every time. On October 1, 1908, Ford successfully produced the
first Model T. In 1914 the assembly line was created and that made it possible ... Show more content

Cars may be loved by all Americans around the US, but what people don't think about is the
negative effects cars have. One major effect that cars create is pollution. Cars run off of gasoline,
and when the gasoline is being used, the car emits the exhaust through the exhaust pipe. This gas
that is released has a huge impact on the environment because it pollutes the air we breathe. Not
only that, but it affects the atmosphere's ozone layer which protects Americans from harmful gases.
Without the ozone layer the world would not be sustainable to live on. Another thing the pollution
from the cars causes is global warming. Pollution affects the earth's temperatures, which can affect
places that are usually cold. So, even though cars have many positive effects on Americans pollution
is one negative effect cars have on the

Paul's Case by Willa Cather
Some say money changes you, some say money changes the people around and others say money
changes everyone. In Willa Cather's "Paul's Case", Paul is a teenage misfit who lives in a Pittsburgh
neighborhood. The love of money is put on such a high pedestal that it consumes Paul and the way
which he lives. Everything he does is influenced by his desire for wealth. His love for theater and art
becomes an addiction and drive him to steal money and retreat to New York. Here, Paul experiences
the "fast life" as he dines and shops expensively. Paul then realizes he is the victim of his own
demise and takes his own life. Paul's obsession with theater, luxury and the dystopian society he
lives in are the reasons for his isolation and loss of life. Willa Cather provides insights to how Paul
wants to feel important in his life instead of being an outsider in society. In his job, Paul works as an
usher in Carnegie Hall. The narrator states,"As the house filled, he grew more and more vivacious
and animated, and the color came to his cheeks and lips. It was very much as though this were a
great reception and Paul were the host." (Cather 13). The narrator shows the reader how Paul feels
more important as he helps people in the theater. It is as if the sight of people filling the room and
needing Paul's help breathes life into Paul. Author E.K. Brown writes, "He felt the pull of New
York...to feel himself in the center of "the plot of all dreams"..."(Brown 1). Brown uses this

When we think of drive–in movie theaters, we picture black and white movies, vintage cars, diners,

tradition. Over the years, while technology may have transformed the movie industry, some prefer
to remain faithful to the tradition.

Introduction
Village Roadshow began in 1954 as one of the first drive–in cinemas in Australia in the Melbourne
suburb of Croydon. From there, it expanded its drive–in cinemas into more traditional 'hardtop'
cinemas in largely populated areas. Strengthening its business diversity, in the 1960's Village
entered into the film distribution industry, followed by the film production industry in the 1970s. By
the 1980s Village Roadshow was a pioneer in the development of state of the art multiplex cinema
complexes (Anton Clavé, 2007). In the 1990s Village Roadshow sought to further strengthen its

A new study from 2015 suggests that internet piracy has reduced substantially in the past year and is
down 29% due to the introduction of new legal streaming services. Access to legal media content
can reduce piracy as 33% of respondents in the study cited streaming services like Netflix as the
biggest reason they ceased pirating. According to the research, internet piracy has dropped across
every age group, except those aged 35–49, since 2014 (Nicholas, 2016). During 2015 VRL signed a
content licensing deal with Australia's subscription video–on–demand service Stan, providing them
access to a selection of VRL's award–winning films and TV series. They also made an agreement
with global video–on–demand service Netflix, also providing a selection of their films and TV
series (annual report). Entering into the growing digital marketplace is a strong move, and VRL can

A Short Story : A Story?
It was a bright summer day in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mary Jefferson was relaxing on her couch,
watching TV, when she received a phone call from her best friend, Ava Daniels. "Mary, great
news!"Ava said excitedly. "You got tickets to Hamilton!" Mary yelled back. "I wish. That's not the
reason. Someone has invented a time machine and is showing it at the Four Corners! Do you want
to come see it with me?" Ava told Mary. "Yeah, but, isn't the ride really long?" "Yes, but, this is a
once in a lifetime opportunity! I want to share this historical moment with you!" "I'll text my mom.
Let's go!" She drove to Ava's house and parked her mazda near it. She rang the 20th century
doorbell and Ava greeted her with a large bear–hug. "I'm so glad you're here! Let's get to the place.
We are going to stay in a bunk bed in the RV and my dad will take us in that RV!" Ava told Mary
joyfully. "Can I bring my stuff from my car into the RV?" Mary asked. "Duh! Of course you can!"
Ava said loudly. As you may have noticed, Ava is an optimist. She once broke her leg, but she said it
was an amazing experience. She once lost a fingernail, she said it was cool science. Mary grabbed
her bags and brought them into the RV. The RV was huge. it had a little living room and two sets of
bunk beds. Ava and Mary would sleep in the same one. She also noticed little closets to put
belongings in. She set her bags in one. She put her phone on the top bunk of one of

Amc's Dine-In Theater Analysis
In 2008, AMC launched its dine–in program and it is still growing today. They have more than fifty
dine–in theaters in eleven different states which have gross revenues of more than $40 million
(Puente). They offer four different dine–in environments. Cinema Suites is an adult theater which
has recliners and offers a full bar. Fork and Screen is a family friendly theater which has a menu for
all ages. AMC Red Kitchen's menu consists of burgers, sushi, and milkshakes. Last, MacGuffins Bar
and Lounge offers beer, wine, and assorted cocktails (AMC). AMC also has an event portion that

They made statements claiming that this is their test theater and hope to expand if it is successful
(Hallman). Carmike offers all of the events that have been listed in the strategy. They offer sporting
events, concerts, classics, and art shows, such as ballets (Carmike Cinemas). Regal Entertainment
has opened a dine–in theater called Cinebarre in 2007. Cinebarre is a restaurant and theater
combination that is located in seven different states. These theaters are for ages eighteen and up.
They serve drinks, appetizers and entrees (Schuker). Regal also offers special events at their
theaters. For example, they are hosting Star Wars marathons where they will play all seven of the
films on Saturdays for a specific amount of time. This allows them to attract a specific customer
base (Regal Entertainment Group). Cinemark has opened a nine–screen, dine–in movie theater in
Colorado where it offers luxurious recliners and drinks, such as beer, wine, and cocktails. They

Case Study Movie Exhibition Industry Essay
Strategic Analysis of Movie Exhibition Industry
By: Kim Saline
February 24, 2010
Objective:
To provide an analysis and make recommendations to increase revenue in the movie exhibition
industry.
Overview:
Ticket sales for movie theaters are at their lowest point since 1996. With the core demographic
group expected to grow slower than the US population and with technological advances growing at
speeds faster than the industry can keep up, ticket sales will continue to decline if the current
business strategy continues to be followed.
Concession sales and ticket sales are the two biggest sources of revenue for a movie theater. Both
continue to increase in cost to the consumers and may have reached a price point that is starting ...

They also initiate the contracts with the theaters and negotiate the percentage of box office sales
they will receive. Many of the distribution companies are integrating with the production studios
because the need for distribution is diminishing with the conversion to digital. This makes these
suppliers a strong force.
On the concession side the bargaining power is weak due to economies of scale. Theaters earn most
of their profits on concessions so they use their power to reduce their costs from their suppliers.
4. The bargaining power of buyers: The outlook for the target market isn't favorable for the movie
industry because it will not be growing as fast as the overall population. Buyer power is a strong
force because of the target market and several other factors including: the undifferentiated product
offered, switching to an alternative is simple and low cost, and customers can stay home and watch
movies. The consumers are also complaining about concession and ticket costs, along with the
advertisements before the film is shown.
5. The threat of substitutes: This is the strongest force of competitive pressure that the movie
exhibition industry faces. Not only are they competing among each other but they have to compete
with every leisure activity a consumer has to choose from.
Consumers are also investing in home theaters. TV's are bigger than ever and have digital and 3D
capability. As the costs of all the components go down consumers are

Watching a Movie at Home vs. Theater Essay example
Movies are one of the biggest entertainment sources for anyone in the world, and for the same
reason film industry is the largest of any industries with India making the most number of movies
per year than any other country. People watch movies at home on their television or in the theaters
on a big screen where the film is been displayed with a movie projector onto a large projection
screen at the front of the auditorium. Watching a movie at home or in theater is an enjoyable
experience for everyone depending on personal preferences.
In a theater, one can watch movies as soon as they are released without having to wait until they are

It can be easier for parents to exercise their control over children if they are watching a movie at
home. If a movie scene is not appropriate for a child, then they have the choice of fast forwarding it
or stopping the movie whereas one does not have that choice in the theater. Movie theaters make it
more difficult on parent's pockets by having a huge variety and display of goodies for children. The
food items are overly priced in a theater and that could be a big dent in the pocket if added on to the
price of entrance ticket.
Some theaters give people and option to go movie hopping where one can see as many movies with
one theater entrance purchase. This is very economical for people who wait for all their favorite
movies to accumulate and watch all of them together in day. This is difficult to do if one wants to
wait for the television channels to telecast them.
There is a broad variety of types of theaters available– conventional theaters, IMAX and drive in's.
Going to a theater is a good change for a person in contrast to watching it at home. Theaters are a
popular dating spot for person any age. One can choose between the types of theater one wants to go
to and what suits their needs, but a home television might not be able to give you all these options.
One does not even have to spend extra money on special glasses or other accessories needed to

Movies Are Better Than In The 1960's
Imagine sitting down in the cool air of an air conditioned movie theater, bursting with anticipation
to see the new blockbuster. It has a 98% score? It better be good! Then, the lights go dark. The
opening screen floods the theater with light. Breathtaking visuals flash across the screen. "How did
they do that?!" you ask. In the 1960's, this never happened. Special effects in movies are more
realistic than ever before. Instead of sitting in a sticky theater on a hot day, you can now escape into
a cool theater. Today, movie reviews are more in–depth and reliable than ever. Therefore, movies are
better for teens today because of special effects, movie theaters, and movie reviews.

Today, most people use Rotten Tomatoes to view movie reviews. Rotten Tomatoes is a website that
reviews movies and TV shows. It uses the "Tomatometer" system to determine if a movie is "fresh"
or "rotten" (Atchity). Due to the fact that professional critics review everything, and they have
multiple people reviewing movies, they are the most trusted review company today (Atchity). This
means that the movie reviews are extremely reliable. However, movie reviews in the sixties weren't
always reliable. An article from the New York Film Academy says "Since there would usually be
only one reviewer per local paper, that individual's opinion held great sway over the viewers in the
area–it wasn't too easy to get a second opinion" (New York Film Academy). This shows that some
movie reviews were not reliable. Next, review scores today are more in depth than scores in the
sixties. The Tomatometer is one of the best review scores available today. It combines multiple
aspects when creating a review score. Many opinions of critics are used in the creation of the score.
A percentage shows how well the movie was received, which does an incredible and accurate job of
showing the score. However, in the 1960's, movies were scored "like restaurants and hotels"(New
York Film Academy) with stars. If the film received four or five stars, then it's a good movie.
However, this is a small spectrum. Each star is worth 20%, so the

Movie Exhibition Industry Persuasive Essay
Are you tired of forking over movie ticket AND concession prices added together? Then the theaters
don't allow you to bring in your own cheaper food, which forces you to–if you're thirsty or hungry–
to buy their overpriced junk sized servings of popcorn and soda! They're tricking us into thinking
we have to buy it! We deserve the right to take our own food in! Theaters already get plenty of
money from ticket sales and don't need the money from concessions! The average movie ticket is
already $8.61, so multiply that by 50–100 people in a single movie! Add concessions and it doubles
the price! The theaters show about 20 movies in a day, so add that to the math! When concessions

Drive In Movie Theater History
History of Drive–In Movie Theater Drive–in movie theaters were extremely popular during the
1930' through the early 2000's. Creators, facts, and closed are main points in the history of drive–in
movie theaters. Richard Hollingshead made history June 6, 1933, when he opened the first drive–in
movie theater in Camden, New Jersey (Cohen). Richard was a sales manager at his dad's store,
Whiz Auto Products (Cohen). The idea for a drive–in movie theater came to him because his mother
would be very uncomfortable when she would sit in theater seats. He experimented in his own
driveway (Cohen), by nailing a screen to a tree, putting a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of a car,
and using a radio to produce sound ("Drive–In Movie History"). He also ... Show more content on

technology: in–car RCA Victor speakers (Cohen), movie soundtracks played through the radio
(History.com), and mobile concession stands became available (Cohen) and stared serving hot dogs,
hamburgers, French fries, and sodas. By 1948, there were about eight hundred and twenty drive–in
theaters (Cohen). Mobile concession stands became more popular and started serving a bigger
variety of foods (Cohen). In the late 1940's and early 1950's, more families than before were going
to the drive–in movie theaters (Cohen). By 1958, there were about four thousand and sixty–four
drive–ins in the United States and Canada (Cohen). The largest drive–in movie theater was the All–
Weather Drive–In in Copiague, New York (Drive–in Movie History). It had two thousand five
hundred parking spaces, one thousand two hundred indoor seats, a restaurant, playground, and a
shuttle train to transport people across the twenty–eight acre lot (Drive–In Movie History). The two
smallest drive–ins were the Harmony Drive–In in Harmony, Pennsylvania and the Highway Drive–

My Favorite Experience Of Living In A Small Town Life?
Small Town Life
I am from a small town named Winner that has roughly 3,500 people in it. We don't have a whole
lot, but it is still a nice place to live. Moving to Aberdeen has been a challenge, but I am slowly
getting the hang of things. Small towns have multiple perks that people from bigger areas do not get
to experience, just like bigger towns have things that small towns do not get to experience. My
favorite thing about living in Winner is having a sense of community. Because we live in a small
town, everybody knows everyone. Sometimes it can be a pain because everyone knows your
business but it does have benefits. If someone has cancer, or a loved one has passed away, or
someone has a house fire, people are always there to help you. Whether it's a benefit, locals sending
you sympathy cards, or people starting a meal chain for you, you can always count on the people
who live in your small town. I have had an amazing group of people who have helped my family in
tough times and it means the world to us. Smaller communities seem to have an unbreakable
backbone of people who will always be there for you in whatever situation you are going through.
Another thing I realized is how great the traffic in Winner is. Obviously, we have our normal lunch
rush, but Aberdeen's traffic has been a different experience. It was quite overwhelming when I first
moved here because things move at such fast pace. People seem to be in such a hurry and I find it
difficult to avoid

Drive In America
America is home to many unique things. For instance, movie entertainment is native to the United
States. In the early nineteen hundreds, Americans combined two of their favorite things; cars and
movies. They were called drive–ins they were very popular in the United States. Drive–ins spread
like a wildfire throughout America, but started rather small, families all over the United States seem
to have loved them no matter the quality of the sound and picture of the move; however, for various
reasons, they sadly died out and there are very few left today. In 1928 a man named Richard

It says, "A night at the drive–in was still a popular activity among adolescents, but many drive–ins
were family–oriented, offering a household an inexpensive night out. To attract the family trade,
drive–ins sometimes offered playgrounds, baby–bottle warmers, fireworks, and laundry services,
not to mention concession stands serving such traditional movie–house fare as popcorn, hot dogs,
and sodas." (Baughman, 2001) Teens also very much enjoyed drive–ins. Most drive–ins showed
low–budget horror movies that were meant just for teens. Drive–ins were a place where teens could
escape from their parents and from school and have some sort of privacy. Because of this they were
often referred to as "passion pits." (Baughman, 2001) This just goes to show that even though the
quality of the movies may have been bad that many families and even teens enjoyed the Drive–ins.
Sadly even all of this was not enough to save them from the

Motion Picture Attendance Essay
In the Post–World War II era of the late 1940's into the 1950's, Hollywood's motion picture industry
went through a rapid unexpected transition. During this time frame, weekly motion picture
attendance dropped off tremendously from 90 million immediate post–war in 1945–1948 to 46
million in 1953. Many observers tend to attribute this downturn to the rise of the television, which
surged to popularity during the same time period. Opposite to the declining trend of motion picture
attendance, the trend of televisions in homes skyrocketed from only 940,000 in 1949 to upwards of
52 million by the end of 1950's.2 Although it's easy to point the finger at television for the decrease
of moviegoers, there were other economic and social trends that played a major role as well. While

attendance, this paper will also carefully outline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How A Usb Drive Can Be Used For More Than Just Storing Data
A USB Drive is known for carry data, be it music, photos, documents, videos, etc. But there 's a
whole other side to these handy little gadgets. Take a look at these 10 ways that a USB drive can be
used for more than just storing data. 1. Run portable applications (just like your smart phone)
Portable apps are becoming more and more popular everyday and businesses are starting to see the
benefits of using them internally and externally to market their products. USB drives are perfect
devices for these applications. For instance, OpenOffice, which is a complete office suite that
contains a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, drawing software and database, is
available as a portable app. Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird offer portable web navigation as
portable applications. If you take these tools, namely the ability to check your email, surf the web
and be able to use a full office suite, in combination with the mobility of a USB drive, you 've given
yourself the ability to redefine your office environment! If you need more, you can choose a variety
of other applications for use on a USB drive from Portableapps.com. You can even download an
entire package of applications that include some cool tools like an audio player, games, antivirus
utilities and a customizable menu system that is dedicated to your USB drive. 2. Boot an operating

Gitchie Girl Analysis
Gitchie Girl "We're with the police! Come out with your hands up" (Hamman, 55.) Sandra Cheskey,
a thirteen year old girl, who survived a horrific encounter at Gitchie Manitou along with four of her
other good friends has a amazing but scary story. Sandra being the youngest of four, loved to go out
and do crazy things with her friends, until one night when the group of five ventured out to Gitchie
and decided to smoke and drink. Sandra would've been taken as a nice, kind girl who cared for
everything and anything, she was never too naughty, never did anything of the sort like drinking or
smoking. Taking care of many more responsibilities than she needed too, following a Christian
church and spending time with her grandma and grandpa helping out with her grandpa's farm were
just some of the things she loved to do. Her grandpa once said, "You're a kind girl. God did good
with you" (Hamman 8.) Debbie, Sandra's best friend, introduced her to a boy named Roger while
they were at the Starlight drive–in movie theater. Sandra was never a big fan of boys when Roger
made her feel rather special, once they started talking Roger then invited Sandra to go see a movie
the following weekend, so Roger picked her up to go see the movie Night of the Living Dead. As
regular dates continued Roger asked Sandra if she would want to go out to Gitchie Manitou, of
course Sandra replied yes and was picked up later that night and they drove out there. Once the five
teenagres got out to Gitchie they found a fire pit that was already made as if someone had just been
there, Dana was putting more logs into the fire pit and suddenly stood up and said, "Did you guys
hear something?" (Hamman 36.) Suddenly Stew had taken a bullet, then Mike, Dana, and finally
Stewart. The men that had shot at them claimed that they were cops and called themselves The
Boss, J.R. and Hatchet Face. Sandra asked herself many questions like, 'If he's a cop, he would've
answered my questions' or 'Wouldn't a real police man let me sit down?' but she never said anything
out loud because she didn't want to make the men mad. Sandra had been the only one left in the car
alone with J.R. he started making commands at her and soon J.R. had raped Sandra. The idea was to

Effects Of Piracy On The Motion Picture Industry
From the moment consumers were able to use the internet to get music, software, and movies,
piracy has had serious financial implications on the motion picture industry. Copyright protection
presents some difficulty in illegally obtaining movies but there are many avenues around most of
these systems. The RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, has tried several legal
ploys to prevent people from accessing this material but many consumers continue to access it with
little concern. Much like the music industry, which was challenged to reinvent its distribution
model, the movie industry has to do the same thing. To counter the amount of piracy the movie
studios must develop new systems for content delivery including streaming new release movies at
home. First, the current system of forcing consumers to go to a movie theater is no longer desirable
for many. Entertainment seekers can now get almost instantaneous access to desired content whether
it's music or movies via streaming services like Netflix. These services exist due to the demand for
them and to satiate the desire for content when and where the customer wants it. While my
generation patiently grew up waiting for Thursday night for The Cosby Show the current generation
is not oriented around content on a television or at a specific date and time. As this younger
generation becomes paying customers their desires will have to be considered with all delivery
based decisions. To decrease the desire

The Similarities Of A Cinemax Theater Vs. Cinemax Theater
Going to the movie theater has been a well–known activity. People go to the movies to watch all the
new movies with the company of either their girlfriend or boyfriend, a group of friends, or with
family. There are many qualities one has to think about when they are choosing a location to watch a
movie. They have two options, a Cinemax theater or a Drive In theater. A Drive In theater tends to
have more qualities when watching a move rather than a Cinemax. Although a Cinemax theater does
have some qualities of interest a Drive In theater seems more valuable. For one, the Drive in is
inexpensive compared to a Cinemax theater. The customer gets to watch two movies for the price of
one at a Drive in unlike the Cinemax theater where you only watch one movie for one price.
Secondly, at a Cinemax theater they do not let their customers bring their own food from outside
therefore, you have to buy their pricey food. While at the Drive In anybody is welcomed to bring
any type of outside food into the theater area. Thirdly, in a Cinemax theater one is in a building with
a large amount of other people and at a Drive In a person is in their own car with people they do
know. There are times when someone would like to go watch a movie but, price tickets can be a bit
too expensive. At a local movie theater like AMC or Edwards Cinemax a movie ticket for one movie
ranges from a minimum of fourteen dollars to twenty–two dollars depending on the time you go and

Food is a vital component of a theater's profit making. Most profits come from the high markup on
popcorn and soda. Movie theaters are really in the snack business. In the bloom of the cinema,
popcorn really wasn't a must have item when going to the movies as it wasn't sold during the "silent
film "era. However when the Great Depression hit, theaters began to sell popcorn and gained huge
profits that kept them alive through the hard economy. Knowing that there are movie theaters that
offer gourmet food and liquor, people will be willing to watch the movie while enjoying their food.
A recent fad in the industry is serving the guests as they are waiting for their movie to begin.
Consumers can order during previews, and enjoy their food as the movie begins. The audience also
pays twice sometimes triple the price of a product just to experience the food at the theater, because
it "taste different". People do not notice a small tax rate of an additional 5–10 cents, yet realize the
prices have gone up 12–20 cents but still continue to purchase

Summary Of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

  • 1. Summary Of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon The Weinstein Company, Netflix, and IMAX are teaming up to produce the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend through both the streaming and in the IMAX theaters. Sarah Moran states this has angered AMC, Regal, and Cinemark as they feel this is cutting them out of the distributing process and have refused to screen the film. This article continues to discuss how movie theaters do not want to work with streaming services such as Netflix, and even more so when they believe new films being streamed online as well in theaters are a huge threat. Sarah Moran continues to state in her article about how much easier it is to rent or own movie and watching it at home where most televisions are flat and widescreen. The TV's we have now ... • 2. Examples Of Allusions In The Outsiders The Outsiders In the novel, "The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton" allusions played a big part in the book. An example of this is when Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally and go to Dairy Queen and engorged themselves in barbeque and banana splits. "We stopped at a Dairy Queen and the first thing I got was a Pepsi. Johnny and I gorged on barbeque sandwiches and banana splits," (Hinton 83). The reason the Author used Dairy Queen as an allusion is because Dairy Queen is a well known restaurant and it came out in the 1940s, so it was a still kinda new thing and very popular to go to. Another example of an allusion is how the Madras T–shirts are constantly brought up in the book. "I really couldn't see what the Socs would have to sweat about–good grades, good cars, ... • 3. The Outsiders Movie And Book Comparison Name: Professor: Course: Date: Comparison between the Movie and Book: The Outsiders It is an experience of a lifetime to read a story in a book and watch the movie. The book and movie, The Outsiders, share many similarities and differ in equally many ways. S. E. Hinton narrated the Outsiders, and this high–quality narration was equally translated to the movie (2). However, they seem to vary in so many ways. This write–up examines the similarities and differences between the book and movie, The Outsiders, in terms of the plot, characters, setting, style, and theme. The Outsiders Novel This is S.E. Hinton's coming–of–age novel first published by Viking Press in 1967. Hinton was only 15 when she began writing this novel. However, she did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Ponyboy returns home at 2 a.m. in the morning, Darry is agitated and begins to yell at Pony and Soda, all in a fit of rage. Darry slaps Ponyboy, causing him to run away with Johnny. Later after Ponyboy calms down, he begins wondering whether running away from all this was a good idea. When these boys wander into a park within the neighborhood, the Socs' Randy, Bob, and three others confront them, and after they exchange derogatory remarks, the tension intensifies after Ponyboy spits at the rival gang. The Socs grab Ponyboy and attempt to drown him in a fountain. His gang member Johnny, feeling anxious and terrified because Bob had brutally jumped him on a previous occasion, spontaneously stabs Bob, causing his accidental death (Coppola 11.30). Johnny and Ponyboy, now feeling frightened and without a clue of what to do next for they are well aware that those who take life in Oklahoma face execution on the electric chair, decide to seek the counsel of Dally, who gives them some cash and a loaded gun and asks them to hide inside an abandoned church in Windrixville. While staying there, Pony decides to cut and dye his hair to disguise. When Dally pays them a visit, he talks of the intensified tension between Greasers and Socs following Bob's death. Dally agrees to take them home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Drive In Theater Essay As a mother, I often wonder what all can be done, as a family, where we can go and have a great time. I imagine going to a drive in theater, the excitement of enjoying a movie in my own way. This is an all American pastime. My children will have fond memories of everyone driving into the theater, going to the playground and swinging on a swing while watching their favorite movies. Memories filled with joy, laughter, milk shakes, eating their favorite junk food, and being able to dress up in a costume of whatever character is featured in a certain movie. They will want to bring their children, their children's children to recreate those nostalgic feelings of being able to enjoy a drive–in theater. Let's say you and your sweetheart want a date night. Grab a blanket and some pillows, relax under the stars for a romantic comedy on our plush green lawn. You'll be able to snuggle up next to your sweetie, the weather is just perfect, and breezy. Fall in love under the stars, maybe even propose to her. This movie theater will always keep that memory alive, and in turn you will be able to bring your future children. Do you want the drive–in experience without having to be outside? We have just the solution. Everyone can come and enjoy our restaurant with car seating and the look of being in a drive–in. Friends and family will come in and sit at one of our 50' style car– booths and be able to enjoy a great burger and a shake while watching one of the featured films for that evening. ... • 5. Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed Prepare to be Boarded: Why Piracy Laws Must Be Changed From the moment consumers were able to use the internet to get music, software, and movies, piracy has had serious financial implications for the motion picture industry. Copyright protection presents some difficulty in illegally obtaining movies, but there are many avenues around most of these systems. The RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, has tried several legal ploys to prevent people from accessing this material, but many consumers continue to access it with little concern. Much like the music industry, which was challenged to reinvent its distribution model, the movie industry has to do the same thing. To counter the amount of piracy the movie studios must develop new systems for content delivery including streaming new release movies at home. First, the current system of forcing consumers to go to a movie theater is no longer desirable for many. Entertainment seekers can now get almost instant access to desired content, whether it's music or movies via streaming services like Netflix. These services exist due to the demand for them and to satiate the desire for content when and where the customer wants it. While my generation patiently grew up waiting for Thursday night for The Cosby Show the current generation is not oriented around content on a television or at a specific date and time. As this younger generation becomes paying customers their desires will have to be considered with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Importance Of Enjoying Hi-Res Audio Hi–Res audio is just a fancy way of saying that the music is at a high resolution to provide the nuances of sound that the artist intended. Enjoying high–quality audio is something that can be done at home and which only requires a minimal adding to of the components already found in your home theater in order to enjoy a superior quality sound that will make new titles, as well as old favorites sound impressive. So you're sold on the idea, but what has to be set up to make it happen? Here's what is needed in order to be able to enjoy Hi–Res audio. THE AUDIO PLAYER Because Hi–Res audio files are digital, the audio player must be too. So that means the player will have a hard drive to contain the files and store them for play. • 8. History of the Drive-In Movie Theater Essay History of the Drive–In Movie Theater The story of the drive–in movie theater begins with one man. That man was Richard Milton Hollingshead, Jr., born on February 25, 1900, the "father" of the drive–in. The drive–in got its humble beginnings in the driveway of Hollingshead's Riverton, New Jersey home, at 212 Thomas Avenue. This is where his first experimentations took place. Setting a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of the family car, he projected the film onto a screen he had nailed to a tree. He tested the potential hazards of foul weather by turning on his lawn sprinkler to simulate a rainstorm. His home radio sitting behind the screen to provide sound, Hollingshead sat in his car watching and listening. The car windows up or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pennsauken Township was the location. The theater was called the Automobile Movie Theatre. The marquee simply stated "Drive–in Theatre." Opening night drew a full house. Many were there for free, however, as Hollingshead and Smith had distributed free passes to as many local media as they could. The first film ever shown at a drive–in was the 1932 release Wife Beware, starring Adolphe Menjou. The partners complained they were not able to obtain a first–run film from a distributor. This was due to the fear that the gate at indoor houses would be lessened. This problem would plague drive–ins forever. Many shorts accompanied the feature. Admission was twenty–five cents per person. Three or more in a car were admitted for the price of one dollar. Initially the plan was to have three shows a night. There would be one at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 P.M. But in order to fit all shows in, films had to be edited. This system did not work well. Apparently the partners realized this mistake early; for after only the second night, the schedule was changed to only two shows a night. Now there would be one at 8:45 and 10:45 P.M. The program changed twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The two men also learned early on about the difficulties in preparing a quality scheduling format. The films had to be started early enough to allow time to fit both in, but late enough to be visible against the fading sunlight of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Personal Narrative-Impact Dance Theater As I arrived to the theater, many memories came flooding back to my mind of my times being on stage. But that day was not another day on stage; it was a day in the audience. I was at the theater to help Impact Dance Theater with their winter show. When I walked into the lobby, I saw my teacher and the others standing around waiting to be told what to do. About the time I walked to them another volunteer came over as well. "Today you guys will be ushers" the volunteer said "I need some of you to scan tickets and some to hand out programs." I was one of usher's who would be scanning tickets. We waited about another 20 minutes in the lobby before told where we would be at. The manager of the theater walked over to us with a pleasant smile. "Thank you so much" she stated "We will go over the rules the theater has and then I will tell you where to go." Once she told us the rules and where we would be, we received our usher badges and when on our way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I got distracted by them and time flew by. I checked my phone and it was 2:30pm, so I went back to the doors and waited for the audience to arrive. There was now a man playing Christmas songs on the piano. People are now being to slowly file in. I started scanning tickets, and only scanned about 25 tickets. • 10. Personal Narrative: W Is For Wicked W is for Wicked I love musicals, and I had only ever seen Limestone and Cornstalk perform their plays, which is completely different from seeing a musical done by people who act for a living. This past November, I got to go see Wicked with my sister in Wisconsin. I was supposed to go with my sister, Theresa, and my mom, but there were not enough seats in our budget to allow for my mom to go as well. I drove up to Wisconsin with my brother, Jimmy, and the co–founders of his game company, as they had a game convention in Madison they wanted to go to. Well, we got to my sister's house on Friday, and the showing we were going to was the first Saturday performance. It was probably one of the messiest ones I'd ever seen, and apparently EVERYONE in Wisconsin goes to Culver's for lunch, because it was jam packed, shoulder to shoulder, and it was just a small one off the ainterstate. After finishing lunch, we continued on our trek. To be honest, most of the drive was pretty boring, but it was scary multiple times, which is more than a little strange. At one point, while my sister was driving, a few people on the interstate wouldn't let her get in the lane she needed to be in to reach the exit, luckily we still managed to squeeze in, so we didn't end up being late to the ... • 11. Drive In Theatre History June 6, 2008 the flag flying over the U.S. Capitol commemorated the 75th birthday of a distinctive slice of Americana: the drive–in movie theater. It was on that day in 1933 that Richard Hollingshead opened the first theater for the auto–bound in Camden, N.J. People paid 25 cents per car as well as per person to see the British comedy Wives Beware under the stars. The concept of showing movies outdoors wasn't novel; people often watched silent films on screens set up at beaches or other places boasting an abundance of sky. However, it took an auto–parts salesman such as Hollingshead to see the genius in giving a car–loving society one more activity they could do in their vehicles. He first conceived the drive–in as the answer to a problem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Digital cinema will be both an opportunity and a threat for drive–in owners," said the association's director of media and research Patrick Corcoran in an e–mail. "An opportunity because digital will allow them to get new movies sooner than they do–they are often weeks behind the break for new films. It's a threat in that the digital transition will be expensive to manage, and some may not be able to do it." Kopp of course bets on the drive–ins' survival. In 2005, he and his wife bought the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre in Henderson, N.C., for $22,000 on eBay. He said they've invested about $300,000 since to clear the seven acres of weeds and modernize the technology. Today the theatre can accommodate 265 cars and show movies in a 60–foot–by–80–foot screen. The sound comes through car radios. Film fare of the Raleigh Road and other drive–ins typically consists of G–rated films, Kopp said. Disney movies thrive, as do animated films. "We've had some folks that come out on a weekly basis. It's almost like a tailgate party," Kopp ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If one asks who was the pigtailed little girl in E.T.: The Extra–Terrestrial, I know the answer: Drew Barrymore. I also remember every big Oscar awarded since I was in grade school. What was the best picture 1994? It was Forrest Gump. My friends, however, have stopped asking me if I want to go out to the movies. While I love movies as much as ever, the inconvenience of going out, the temptations of the theater, and the behavior of some patrons are reasons for me to wait and rent the video. To begin with, I just don't enjoy the general hassle of the evening. Since small local movie theaters are a thing of the past, I have to drive for fifteen minutes to get to the nearest multiplex. The parking lot is shared with several restaurants and a supermarket, so it's always jammed. I have to drive around at a snail's pace until I spot another driver backing out. Then it's time to stand in an endless line, with the constant threat that tickets for the show I want will sell out. If we do get tickets, the theater will be so crowded that I won't be able to sit with my friends, or we'll have to sit in a front ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these changes that have happened comes drastic opinions on economic utility. Economic utility is the amount of satisfactory a customer is granted from a product or service. On one hand you have the customer that would rather stay home and watch a movie on Netflix. On the other hand you have a customer that would go to the theatre to watch the newest movies. These are the movies that people on netflix can't experience yet. In this project I am going to discuss the impact that Netflix has had on the movie and television industries. There are four different variables of economic utility that have evolved with the arrival of Netflix. These include product form, time, place, and product possession. First off, I'm going to talk about the impact the movie industry had on economy before the arrival of Netflix. Before Netflix, movie theatres had different competitors. Some of these include sporting events, restaurants, and clubs. People would have to decide what they wanted to do during their free time. One of the economic utilities that was very different before Netflix was place. Unfortunately, when the volcanoes erupted in Pompeii, the thermopoliums were destroyed. The thermopolium is often compared to the modern day fast food restaurant, due to the already prepared food and quick service. Everyone has eaten fast food in their life, but do they know the history and consequences of choosing the fast food life? White Castle, which opened in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921 is credited as the first fast food restaurant. White Castle's founders decided to change how the public perceived hamburgers, since many people saw hamburgers as low quality. For this reason, they built their restaurant so that the customers could see their food being prepared. The term fast food was not widely used when White Castle first opened. The actual term fast food was recognized in the Merriam–Webster dictionary in 1951. A fast food restaurant is generally known for its fast food cuisine, minimal table service, and quick service. The customers place their own orders and take care of picking up their own condiments, utensils, etc. The Curb Service started as a novelty at an A&W shop, but soon spread nationwide. In 1955, April 15, the first McDonald's restaurant opened in Des Plaines, Illinois. The first assembly line was introduced in 1937. In Willa Cather's "Paul's Case", Paul is a teenage misfit who lives in a Pittsburgh neighborhood. The love of money is put on such a high pedestal that it consumes Paul and the way which he lives. Everything he does is influenced by his desire for wealth. His love for theater and art becomes an addiction and drive him to steal money and retreat to New York. Here, Paul experiences the "fast life" as he dines and shops expensively. Paul then realizes he is the victim of his own demise and takes his own life. Paul's obsession with theater, luxury and the dystopian society he lives in are the reasons for his isolation and loss of life. Willa Cather provides insights to how Paul wants to feel important in his life instead of being an outsider in society. In his job, Paul works as an usher in Carnegie Hall. The narrator states,"As the house filled, he grew more and more vivacious and animated, and the color came to his cheeks and lips. It was very much as though this were a great reception and Paul were the host." (Cather 13). The narrator shows the reader how Paul feels more important as he helps people in the theater. It is as if the sight of people filling the room and needing Paul's help breathes life into Paul. Author E.K. Brown writes, "He felt the pull of New York...to feel himself in the center of "the plot of all dreams"..."(Brown 1). Brown uses this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Drive–ins spread like a wildfire throughout America, but started rather small, families all over the United States seem to have loved them no matter the quality of the sound and picture of the move; however, for various reasons, they sadly died out and there are very few left today. In 1928 a man named Richard Hollingshead Jr had the idea to put a projector on the top of his car and projected a film onto a screen and the idea of the Drive–in was born. (Woloson, 2013) ... It says, "A night at the drive–in was still a popular activity among adolescents, but many drive–ins were family–oriented, offering a household an inexpensive night out. To attract the family trade, drive–ins sometimes offered playgrounds, baby–bottle warmers, fireworks, and laundry services, not to mention concession stands serving such traditional movie–house fare as popcorn, hot dogs, and sodas." (Baughman, 2001) Teens also very much enjoyed drive–ins. Most drive–ins showed low–budget horror movies that were meant just for teens. Drive–ins were a place where teens could escape from their parents and from school and have some sort of privacy. Because of this they were often referred to as "passion pits." (Baughman, 2001) This just goes to show that even though the quality of the movies may have been bad that many families and even teens enjoyed the Drive–ins. • 33. Motion Picture Attendance Essay In the Post–World War II era of the late 1940's into the 1950's, Hollywood's motion picture industry went through a rapid unexpected transition. During this time frame, weekly motion picture attendance dropped off tremendously from 90 million immediate post–war in 1945–1948 to 46 million in 1953. Many observers tend to attribute this downturn to the rise of the television, which surged to popularity during the same time period. Opposite to the declining trend of motion picture attendance, the trend of televisions in homes skyrocketed from only 940,000 in 1949 to upwards of 52 million by the end of 1950's.2 Although it's easy to point the finger at television for the decrease of moviegoers, there were other economic and social trends that played a major role as well. While analyzing these various factors along with television's impact on the shift in motion picture attendance, this paper will also carefully outline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. Gitchie Girl Analysis Gitchie Girl "We're with the police! Come out with your hands up" (Hamman, 55.) Sandra Cheskey, a thirteen year old girl, who survived a horrific encounter at Gitchie Manitou along with four of her other good friends has a amazing but scary story. Sandra being the youngest of four, loved to go out and do crazy things with her friends, until one night when the group of five ventured out to Gitchie and decided to smoke and drink. Sandra would've been taken as a nice, kind girl who cared for everything and anything, she was never too naughty, never did anything of the sort like drinking or smoking. Taking care of many more responsibilities than she needed too, following a Christian church and spending time with her grandma and grandpa helping out with her grandpa's farm were just some of the things she loved to do. Her grandpa once said, "You're a kind girl. God did good with you" (Hamman 8.) Debbie, Sandra's best friend, introduced her to a boy named Roger while they were at the Starlight drive–in movie theater. Sandra was never a big fan of boys when Roger made her feel rather special, once they started talking Roger then invited Sandra to go see a movie the following weekend, so Roger picked her up to go see the movie Night of the Living Dead. As regular dates continued Roger asked Sandra if she would want to go out to Gitchie Manitou, of course Sandra replied yes and was picked up later that night and they drove out there. Once the five teenagres got out to Gitchie they found a fire pit that was already made as if someone had just been there, Dana was putting more logs into the fire pit and suddenly stood up and said, "Did you guys hear something?" (Hamman 36.) Suddenly Stew had taken a bullet, then Mike, Dana, and finally Stewart. The men that had shot at them claimed that they were cops and called themselves The Boss, J.R. and Hatchet Face. Sandra asked herself many questions like, 'If he's a cop, he would've answered my questions' or 'Wouldn't a real police man let me sit down?' but she never said anything out loud because she didn't want to make the men mad. Sandra had been the only one left in the car alone with J.R. he started making commands at her and soon J.R. had raped Sandra. The idea was to kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Effects Of Piracy On The Motion Picture Industry From the moment consumers were able to use the internet to get music, software, and movies, piracy has had serious financial implications on the motion picture industry. Copyright protection presents some difficulty in illegally obtaining movies but there are many avenues around most of these systems. The RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, has tried several legal ploys to prevent people from accessing this material but many consumers continue to access it with little concern. Entertainment seekers can now get almost instantaneous access to desired content whether it's music or movies via streaming services like Netflix. These services exist due to the demand for them and to satiate the desire for content when and where the customer wants it. While my generation patiently grew up waiting for Thursday night for The Cosby Show the current generation is not oriented around content on a television or at a specific date and time. As this younger generation becomes paying customers their desires will have to be considered with all delivery based decisions. To decrease the desire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Similarities Of A Cinemax Theater Vs. Cinemax Theater Going to the movie theater has been a well–known activity. People go to the movies to watch all the new movies with the company of either their girlfriend or boyfriend, a group of friends, or with family. There are many qualities one has to think about when they are choosing a location to watch a movie. They have two options, a Cinemax theater or a Drive In theater. A Drive In theater tends to have more qualities when watching a move rather than a Cinemax. Although a Cinemax theater does have some qualities of interest a Drive In theater seems more valuable. For one, the Drive in is inexpensive compared to a Cinemax theater. The customer gets to watch two movies for the price of one at a Drive in unlike the Cinemax theater where you only watch one movie for one price. Secondly, at a Cinemax theater they do not let their customers bring their own food from outside therefore, you have to buy their pricey food. While at the Drive In anybody is welcomed to bring any type of outside food into the theater area. Thirdly, in a Cinemax theater one is in a building with a large amount of other people and at a Drive In a person is in their own car with people they do know. There are times when someone would like to go watch a movie but, price tickets can be a bit too expensive. At a local movie theater like AMC or Edwards Cinemax a movie ticket for one movie ranges from a minimum of fourteen dollars to twenty–two dollars depending on the time you go and the seats you choose. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food is a vital component of a theater's profit making. Most profits come from the high markup on popcorn and soda. Movie theaters are really in the snack business. In the bloom of the cinema, popcorn really wasn't a must have item when going to the movies as it wasn't sold during the "silent film "era. However when the Great Depression hit, theaters began to sell popcorn and gained huge profits that kept them alive through the hard economy. Knowing that there are movie theaters that offer gourmet food and liquor, people will be willing to watch the movie while enjoying their food. A recent fad in the industry is serving the guests as they are waiting for their movie to begin. Consumers can order during previews, and enjoy their food as the movie begins. The audience also pays twice sometimes triple the price of a product just to experience the food at the theater, because it "taste different".
