7. Today’s children require a motivating learning
environment powered by technology. These
students, the children of the “Neo-Millennial“
generation, were born into an exciting world where
it is quite natural for
• all learning to be interactive,
• content to be vast,
• and people to be both connected and
collaborative at all times.

GFK, 2016
85% of teachers think VR
would be beneficial for their
classrooms, but only 2% are
currently using it.
15. THE 5-POINT ENGAGEMENT PROPOSAL FOR TEACHERS
BY NEO-MILLENIALS
1. All lessons should be designed to be interactive. The world is now digital – let’s MIX IT UP!
Incorporate a wide variety of teaching resources including videos, presentation slides,
documents, webpages, your own content
2. All classroom technology devices should be able to work TOGETHER (regardless of what
company made the device or what operating system it runs on)
3. We learn best by building on each other’s ideas. We want to be able to team up and go
deeper than just “surface” level both in class and at home.
4. Students’ personal mobile devices (Notebooks, tablets, smartphones) should not be viewed as
a distraction. Rather, they should allow us to participate in your interactive lessons (answer
your provocative questions, conduct research in the moment of learning, and share our work
with others)
5. Customize what you teach to fit the unique learning needs and styles of different students

THE NEW-AGE LEARNER:
PRACTICAL METHODS FOR
INCREASING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
18. 1. Ensure the active participation & engagement of every student
2. Enable the “flow” of dynamic, interactive content across multiple
devices to create a collaborative learning environment.
3. Measure student comprehension in the moment of
learning
4. Provide differentiated instruction to groups and
individual students
5. Extend learning beyond the classroom

Thanks to the worldwide explosion in popularity of Pokémon Go last summer, augmented reality and virtual reality have become huge buzzwords in the education world this year.
Interestingly, a recent survey sponsored by Samsung found that an overwhelming 85 percent of teachers think VR would be beneficial for their classrooms, but only 2 percent are currently using it.
On Nov. 8, 2015 every subscriber to the Sunday New York Times received a Google Cardboard kit with their Sunday paper. That’s 1.3 million! It was all part of an effort to unveil a new way to experience the news. Using the New York Times VR app, readers could watch a series about children displaced by war. The stories, which will capture your heart and possibly inspire a language arts or cultural studies writing assignment, demonstrate the power of VR as a storytelling device
