2. Research
To begin my research I first looked at a range of action and adventure posters from the
film industry. From this I found that a lot of the latest films used deep colours in the
background of their posters such as reds and greys. In my opinion the red is used as it
symbolises explosions and action, although red could also represent the journey of love
throughout an action and adventure film. An interesting point I noticed in some of the
posters was that there was a range of red and blue. This also works well in an action and
adventure themed poster as it represents good vs. evil.
Here are some examples of the film posters I found:
3. Analysis - Batman
This poster shows all of the key attributes to an action and adventure film.
The explosion of the building in the background hints to the reader of the
films genre. Also there is a character looking straight down at the audience
which gives the impression that he is the protagonist or the antagonist. In
my opinion the batman character gives the impression to the audience that
he is a villain as he is dressed in dark clothing and has a very serious face.
Also the body language of his fist represents his strength and his anger.
Batman could also be seen as the protagonist as his logo is surrounded in
blue beams of light. The colour blue usually represents the character with
a good side to them as it is a cool colour, on the other hand the red fire
represents the opposite as it symbolises anger.
The tagline at the top of the poster also represents that there could be
some destruction in the film as there is no rules. The poster also shows a
large font which catches the readers eye straight away when looking at the
poster, the reason this is done is to advertise the date at which the film will
arrive in cinemas. The poster also does not advertise that it is batman, but
the popularity of the films instantly tells the reader that the character is
batman. This could also be seen as a new beginning for the Batman films
as it does not want to be part of the previous films. Finally, the poster lists
the names of the important characters in the film, the reader instantly
looks at these as they are capitalised, this is also done to advertise the top
actors in the film.
4. Overview
In light of my research I have decided
that using colours such as red for the
antagonist and blue for the
protagonist would be best for my stop
motion animation. In my opinion
using an explosion in my film poster
would look effective and hint to the
reader of its genre. A tag line that is
capitalised could also give off the
same effect. Showing the protagonist
preferably looking down at the camera
or in an action shot would also look
effective for my poster.
