Persuasive Short Story
Lisa and Kate are sisters and they go on a vacation to Mexico. Lisa and her boyfriend had just broke
up before they left for the vacation but Lisa did not tell Kate. Kate eventually finds out about Lisa
and her boyfriend breaking up. Kate takes Lisa to a party so she is not as sad. At the party they meet
two men, Louis and Benjamin. The next day Lisa and Kate go hang out with Louis and Benjamin
and they introduce Taylor to the girls. Taylor is the captain of a boat that takes people scuba diving.
The sisters decide to go with them to go scuba diving. When they get on the boat Louis and
Benjamin get in the cage and go see the sharks first. When Lisa and Kate are getting into the cage
Taylor informs them about the meter that tells them how much oxygen they have left. While Lisa
and Kate are in the cage the cable holding the cage to the boat breaks. They fall 47 meters down in
the ocean. They are too far down to get in contact with Taylor through the radio. Kate gets out of the
cage and swims higher so she can get in touch with Taylor. Taylor tells Kate to get back in the cage
and stay in there. He says he's going to send Javier (Taylor's first mate) down with another cable to
hook on the cage. Kate is getting low on oxygen but they see a flashlight so Lisa goes to see if it is
Javier. While Lisa is headed to meet Javier great white sharks show up, but she is able to hide. After
the sharks leave Lisa keeps swimming to the flashlight but when she gets there Javier is not

Descriptive Essay On A Bathtub
In a nook, hidden away in a spacious house, on the shore of Cape Cod, lies a bathtub. The white
acrylic platform glistens when the sun shines through the lengthy window. During darkness, a
candle can be seen, with the flame standing still, no wind, and no sound. The aroma of Sun and
Sand scented Yankee Candle turns the blue walls of the bathroom into a clear, sky and the tile floors
into warm sand of a tropical island. Beyond this bathroom door lies chaos. As the door creaks open,
eight siblings, loud television shows, and pots and pans tossing, would bombard you. If you are
lucky my black cuddly dog would knock you over. You may believe that a bathtub is just an
ordinary household essential, but take all of your life experiences and dump them here. It is as if it is
a shark cage protecting you from the massive great white shark approaching. In the cage you know
you are safe, you can hear your deepest thoughts, and all is well. Take a deeper look into the bathtub
bubbles– it will become so much more.
I became hooked from the start, my very first bath. I certainly did not remember this occurrence, but
the picture of my bald head with that from the ear to ear smile, sitting in a bubbly sink, proved that
it was love at first sight. Then onto the days where my mother would put my brother and I in the
bath together. Then came four children, then six. Luckily for me, by the time my eighth sibling came
along I was far too old for these family bath sessions. I was granted my own,

Environmental Summary: The Great White Shark
Environment
The Great White Shark, scientifically known as the Carcharodon carcharias, was possibly 2016's
scasriest fish. The Great White shark's environment was the aquatic marine biome, and it usually
lived off the coasts of Australia, South Africa, and California. Although thier usual habitat was
shallow coastal waters, Great Whites have been recorded in depths up to 3,900ft. The climate of the
water they lived in was between 54 and 75°F. The limiting factors of the shark's habitat were the
nutrients and oxygen levels in the water. The Great White shark was the largest predatorial fish in
the whole world. The Great White shark shared the ocean with about 440 other species of sharks, but
its only natural predator was the Killer Whale, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most promient feature was the 300 triangle shaped teeth in multiple rows that were designed to
rip apart the flesh of thier prey. Another adaptation of the Great White was its impeccable sense of
smell. These giant carnivores can detect one drop of blood per 25 gallons of water. They even had
special organs to detect the electromagnetic field that the movement of living animals produces.
These particular sharks are so sensitive that the can pick up variations as small as half a billionth of
a volt. This shark's coloring was also a carefully selected adaptation due to natural selection. They
had a grey dorsal area and a white belly. When viewed from the side, the color change broke up the
sharks silhouette, making it more capable at blending in with the mottled water. This is all because
of natural selection. For example, the sharks with the colorings that stood out the most would die
from lack of food, while the grey and white sharks would keep surviving because they could blend
into the water more. So the Great White sharks inherieted thier coloring from thier ancestorsThe
ecological niche of the Great White shark was to control the food chain, because it was at the top of
it's food chain and could control how the population of its prey increased and

Creative Story : A Short Story
It was turning dark, starting to rain and shadows were cast all over the cemetery. The only light was
from the headlights of the car we came in. There was a slight cold breeze from the north and it was
about 60 degrees. My hair would be all over the place if it weren't for my bandana with the
American flag pictured on the front. "Napoleon, come here." Gertrude my 18 year old sister told me.
"This is the spot of mom and pa's murder when they were looking at grandpa's grave." "Wait
murder! You said they got in a car crash! Why didn't you tell me." "You were three years old when it
happened 11 years ago and you weren't very mature until now!" Gertrude explained. "You lied to me
for 11 years!" I screamed and ran to the car.
The car ride home was quiet. It was like the car was filled with dead people. When we got there I
went to the docks downstairs where I was working on a new submarine. The only problem is the
door I made is 5 foot tall and I'm 5' 2" and Gertrude is 5' 11". A week has passed and the mansion is
still dead quiet from the argument a week ago. Luckily, I finished the submarine and Gertrude and I
are leaving today to try and find Atlantis. "Gertrude are you ready?" I screamed up the stairs toward
her room. "Yes, I am just grabbing my camera. I'll be down at the dock in a few minutes." Gertrude
replied. "Ok, I have all of your diving gear and 2 oxygen tanks." I responded. Starting to walk down

Jaws Cinematography
During the film Steve Spielberg uses music, a mysterious shark and camera techniques such as
simultaneous track and zoom, long shot, close up shots and medium shots to build suspense, tension
and scare the audience. The music represents the shark, especially its movements and its presence.
In the title sequence the camera is moving along the seabed like a shark. Spielberg makes the
audience believe that the camera is viewing things through the shark's eyes, he uses a camera shot
called point of view shot. The music makes the shark seem a mystery because you haven't yet seen
the shark but you can feel its presence. The music clouds your vision and makes you imagine and
believe something that actually isn't even there. It builds tension ... Show more content on

Police Chief Brody jumps up from his tense sitting position and shouts for everybody to get out of
the water. This was what Police Chief Brody was worried about. The boy, Alex is a lost cause can do
nothing but scream, splash and attempt to believe he can escape from the sharks clutches. Alex is
dragged down violently as he tries to gasp for breath; he is finally dragged and lost to the depths of
the dark sea. The camera shot is really close up to the boy as he is fighting for his life; we see his
pain, his struggle and his death. Everyone on the beach couldn't miss the raft in the distance flip
over and the blood spill into the sea. Though audience might have had to do a double take, because
if you look carefully the camera does show the shark, the shark is the one that flipped over the raft.
After everybody's out of the water it is silent like the previous attack not necessarily calm but
perhaps subdued shock. There is lots of clever camera techniques used in the second attack scene,
which are used to create tension and fear. Close ups of Police Chief Brody looking intensely into the
sea, views of the sea and the underwater camera shot where we view through the sharks eyes are all
clever camera techniques which create tension and fear. The camera shots also pay close attention to
detail. For example, when the man with the dog throws a stick for his dog to fetch into the sea, the

What Is The Theme Of Who Moved My Cheese
Who Moved My Cheese "Who Moved My Cheese?" written by Spencer Johnson is a philosophical
book directed to the people who find difficulty in finding their ultimate destiny in life, or in this
case, their "Cheese". The story starts with a high school reunion, where several former schoolmates
gather for lunch. After lunch, they start exchanging their stories of how far they have succeeded in
their careers, and it turns out that all of them had some sort of fear of changes that have taken place
in their lives, after school. One of the alumni, who claim to have gone through the same phase,
narrates a story which had helped him in moulding his career in a much better way. He started his
narration with the introduction of the different characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When the mice came to know about this, they strapped on their shoes and again started their journey
in search of cheese. The little people though, didn't do the same, and mourned on the fact that the
supply which they thought would stay forever has suddenly vanished. They kept searching for the
same old cheese around the station and waited for someone to refill the station with cheese. After
some days, the mice, Sniff and Scurry came across another station, Cheese Station N which had the
biggest cheese supply they had ever seen. And all this time, Hem and Haw were waiting at the
Station C for the cheese to come back. At last Haw realised that there wouldn't be any cheese
coming back and wondered what the mice might be doing now. He dreamt of biting on the new
cheese they might find if they go out and starts out in his journey. Hem doesn't acknowledge the
same fact and still decides to wait for his old cheese to come back. And after some days Haw returns
with some crumbs of the New Cheese but Hem doesn't accept it, saying that he wants the cheese
which he finds for himself and not what Haw brings for him. At that moment, Haw decides to move
on and search for cheese again. And eventually he too finds the Station N and is greeted by the
mice, which evidently have been enjoying the cheese at the N Station. From that day onwards, Haw
didn't stop looking for more supplies, and was

The Wastebasket of The Sea
The Tiger shark, also known as the "wastebasket of the sea"(National Geographic), is the fourth
largest predatory shark in the ocean, measuring between twenty and twenty five feet long and can
weigh more than 2000 pounds. They have dark, vertical stripes on their bodies which is the reason
they are named tiger sharks. According to National Geographic, these stripes fade lighter as the
shark grows older, and eventually disappears with age. The head of the tiger shark is somewhat
wedge–shaped which greatly helps the shark to turn quickly from one side to the other. Like other
sharks, they have small pits on the side of their upper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the egg is hatched within the mother, it stays within the mothers body for up to sixteen
months. The litter usually ranges from ten to eighty pups, each one measuring between twenty to
thirty inches long. Unlike many other animals, the young leave it's mother upon birth. Because tiger
sharks have become such a threat to humans in Hawaii, between 1959 and 1976, 4668 tiger sharks
were hunted and killed, but who is to say it is all their fault? Popular movies incorporating shark
attacks such as Jaws sent frightened sun bathers running from the ocean, and as every beach
lifeguard knows, there's nothing like a gruesome shark attack to provoke a giant hysteria of public
paranoia. Theses shark attacks upon swimmers and surfers off the coast of mainly Hawaii and
Florida's Atlantic coast has left the public seeking and demanding an explanation for the high
number of attacks. The truth?
"'The one thing that's affecting shark attacks more than anything else is human activity,' said Dr
George Burgess of Florida University, a shark expert who maintains the database. 'As the population
continues to rise, so does the number of people in the water for recreation. And as long as we have
an increase in human hours in the water, we will have an increase in shark bites."(Richard
Luscombe)
This quote basically suggests that we, humans, are one large portion of the problem concerning
shark attacks. The ocean is a sharks

Analysis of Jaws Essay
Analysis of Jaws
This essay will analyse the film 'Jaws' and look at the ways that Steven Spielberg (The director)
builds suspense and scares the audience in the film. Jaws was the box–office sensation of 1975 and
the number–one hit movie of the decade until 1977's 'Star Wars'; this was a time when the success or
failure of a few blockbusters began to determine the course of the entire motion picture industry.
The film is about a killer shark that causes havoc among an island resort town, called Amity,
somewhere in New England. The film is set on the 4th of July this is because in America the 4th of
July is a national holiday. It is one of the only times in the year in which the whole of America ...

The scene looks so innocent, but we then see a high angle shot of the teenagers who are unaware of
the threat nearby. We then see a wide shot of the sea and can hear the noise of the waves crashing
against the shore. Then above the calm noise of the sea we hear the load cry of a buoy with its bell
ringing. The bell is a warning sound and gives us the impression that something bad is going to
happen. We also know that the girl will be part of the attack for a two reasons. One, the camera
focuses on her and follows her around the screen and two, she is the first person in the water and we
know that the there is a contrast between the safety of the land and the dangers that lurk in the sea.
Now that the young girl is in the sea, we being to hear the theme of the shark. The two very low
semitones create suspense in the viewer because we know the shark is nearby and that the young
girl is in danger. The two notes begin to get faster and faster, until there is silence and we see the
young girl swimming. We know something is going happen, but we are in suspense because the
music has stopped and we are waiting to see if the shark is still there. We then get our answer when
we see the girl, seemingly getting pulled underneath the water. We do not see what is pulling her
down but we know it is something strong and powerful.

Splendor Ship Research Paper
Carnival Cruise Lines: Fire Aboard a Stranded Cruise Ship In the early morning hours of November
8, 2010 the aft engine room of the Carnival Splendor ship caught fire, and left the ship without
power. The Splendor ship is one of the largest ships in the Carnival fleet with 13 passenger decks.
The ship is so large it requires six diesel engines to operate. Half of the engines are located in the aft
(or rear) engine room and the other half are located in a forward engine room. These engine rooms
are connected together by electric switchboards and cables. "The blaze was extinguished within a
few hours by crew members with the aid of the built–in fire–suppression system" (O'Rourke, 2013,
p140). Fortunately, no crew or passengers were injured (O'Rourke, 2013). The Splendor ship had
been inspected regularly pursuant to the Coast Guard and all regulations. It was designed by Italian
shipbuilders to "ensure that damage to a single generator and switchboard wouldn't inhibit the rest ...

Essay on Bottlenose Dolphins
Bottlenose Dolphins This essay is NOT formatted Bottlenose dolphins are among the most vocal of
the nonhuman animals and exhibit remarkable development of the sound production and auditory
mechanisms. This can be seen in audition, which is shown in the animal's highly refined
echolocation ability, and in tightly organized schools in which they live that are made up by sound
communication. In testing the communication skills of dolphins, extensive studies have been done
on vocal mimicry, in which the animal imitates computer–generated sounds in order to test motor
control in terms of cognitive ability. Language comprehension on the other hand has been tested

1986). In order to understand the complexity of these highly mechanized acoustic systems, it is
necessary to learn the process for which the dolphin hears. In most water–adapted cetaceans, tissue
conduction is the primary route of sound conduction to the middle ear. The isolation of the bullae
shows an adaptation for tissue conducted sound. The lower jaw contains fat that is closely
associated with the impedance of seawater. The lower jawbone of most odontocetes becomes
broadened and quite thin posteriorly, and the fat forms an oval shape that closely corresponds to the
area of minimum thickness of the jaw. This fat body leads directly to the bulla, producing a sound
path to the ear structures located deep within the head. Paired and single air sacs are scattered
throughout the skull, which serve to channel these tissue–conducted sounds (Popov & Supin, 1991).
Other than this description, there are still more studies needed to determine the function of the
middle ear and the type of bone conduction that occurs within the bulla. Due to detailed audiograms,
dolphins have been shown to have the ability to detect high–frequency sounds. In an experiment by
Johnson (1966) as cited in Schusterman et al. (1986), sine–wave sounds ranging in frequency from
75 Hz to 150 Hz were presented to a bottle–nosed dolphin. The animal was trained to swim in a
stationary area within a stall and to

A Case Of Nuturant Care : Adoption Of A Presumed Delphinus...

A novel case of nuturant care: Adoption of a presumed Delphinus calf by bottlenose dolphin
(Tursiops truncatus) in Far North waters, New Zealand.
CH Petersa* and KA Stockina aCoastal–Marine Research Group, Institute of Natural and
Mathematical Sciences, Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand
Worldwide inter–specific behavioural interactions in the order Cetacea are diverse and often
complex. Epimelatic care can be described as nurturant or Succorant in nature. Adoption can be
classified as nuturant behaviour, however very few examples of nuturant adoption have been
reported among wild cetaceans and even less between species. During routine dedicated transect
surveys, an adult female bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) was found in the presence of a
young common dolphin calf that did not appear to be her own. This mother–calf–like relationship
lasted 9 months until the mother was sighted on multiple occasions without the calf. This paper
describes repeated behavioural observations of apparent inter–specific association, and discusses the
"type" and potential function of this interaction.

The Battle Of The Somme
Myths & Misperceptions Outlasting the worst catastrophes Earth has undergone, it seemed merely
forty years ago sharks could and would outlive any event. Yet, even as sharks have the ability to
adapt to changing circumstances, the summer of 1916 presented the first unexpected change for
these great animals. 1916 July 1st, 1916: The Battle of the Somme begins and the British army
suffers 57,470 casualties and 19,240 deaths in just one day 's time. In the span of that week, children
were dying at the rate of one per hour from a polio epidemic in New York City alone. Yet, the
American press turned all attention to the "man–eaters" on New Jersey 's shore during July of 1916,
as five unprovoked attacks shocked America and it 's beach–goers. Up until the summer of 1916 the
average American was by large shielded from sharks, and the idea of attacks was deemed as being
far–fetched in the small New Jersey beach towns. Despite this belief and most beliefs surrounding
these unique animals at the time, Charles Vansant was attacked just three and a half feet in water on
July 1st, 1916; dying hours later from blood loss. Five days later on the 6th of July, Charles Bruder
had both legs severed off while on a solo swim– 45 miles out from the attack on Vansant. The third
day of attacks came on the 12th of July. Just a day before this, fourteen–year–old Rensselaer Cartan
encountered a bump while swimming in the Matawan Creek, leaving bloody scrapes across his
chest and warned others in

Great White Shark Ocean Life
Great White Shark Ocean Life The Carcharodon Carcharias, or more commonly known as the Great
White Shark, is the outspoken king of the ocean. They are a nektonic organism. Every organism has
a full biological classification. The Kingdom is Animalia, the Phylum is Chordata, the Class is
Chrondrichtyes, the order is Lamniformes, the Family is Lamnidae, the Genus is Carcharodon, and
the Species is the Carcharias. The Great White Shark has a robust, torpedo shaped body, a hefty,
conical snout. It has a white underside and a gray or brownish blue dorsal area. There are five gill
slits between the mouth and the lower pectoral fin. There are three major fins; the dorsal fin located
on their back, and two pectoral fins on their sides. Their tail fin is bow shaped. The average size for
an adult shark ranges from 13 to 17 feet long and 1500 to 2500 pounds. Although in most cases, the
females tend to be bigger than the males. The sharks have multiple rows of teeth, up to 3000 in total.
The Great White lives in warm water along the coasts of land masses. You can find the sharks
swimming on the coasts of California up to Alaska, all over the eastern coast of the states, the Gulf,
Hawaii, most of South America, South Africa, the entire perimeter of Australia besides the north
coast, New Zealand, and in the Mediterranean Sea. Although you can find the sharks in all these
areas, they are mostly concentrated in the United States, Japan, and the Mediterranean Sea. The

Incendiary Fire Analysis and Investigation
Summary of the Incident
On February 20, 2003, at 23:10 hours, the West Warwick, Rhode Island fire department was
dispatched to a structure fire at 211 Cowesett Avenue (Grosshandler, Bryner, Madrzykowski, &
Kuntz, 2005). The structure was the location of "The Station" nightclub, which contained an
estimated 458 occupants, which was above the maximum allowed occupancy of 404 which was
established by the City of West Warwick (Grosshandler et al., 2005). The fire resulted in a massive
loss of life as 96 people died at the scene, 3 died within days, and one person died 70 days later,
bringing the death toll to 100 persons (Grosshandler et al., 2005). The large crowd was present at
the nightclub to witness a performance of the rock band "Great White", who used pyrotechnics
during the performance which directly contributed to the ignition of polyurethane foam panels that
were installed in the building by the club owners to serve as soundproofing. As the fire began to
grow occupants began to panic and immediately headed for the exits. The majority of the occupants
attempted to use the front main exit which was composed of a set of double doors, which led to a
corridor, which included a single door that exited to the outside of the building (Grosshandler et al.,
2005). The exit was quickly blocked as occupants began to stack up at the exit. The fire rapidly
spread throughout the occupancy and the structure quickly become untenable. The investigation

Essay on The Station Nightclub Fire West Warwick, Rhode...
The Station Nightclub Fire West Warwick, Rhode Island.
The building of the Station Nightclub was constructed in approximately 1946. Many restorations
and repairs were made to the building since the time of construction by different owners to fulfill
their business needs. The building was a wood–frame construction with wooden shingles on the
exterior walls that also included a flat roof, but the interior walls surrounding the stage were staffed
with sound proof polyurethane insulating foam. Windows were located on the north side of the
building and on the east side of the front entrance. All of the windows had security bars on them
(this could be an issue!). The building had only four doors; a front main door, a bar side exit door, a

They had to request for mutual aid from the encompassing jurisdictions for any apparatus and
ambulances available. The end result was a combination of 583 fire, EMS, and police personnel
including 57 ambulances (BLS & ALS) and two buses for transportation and shelter.
The Local, State and Federal agencies were called to investigate the Station Nightclub fire incident
and they found many issues. The polyurethane foam that was on the interior walls was the major
factor in the Station Nightclub fire. It was easily ignited and also contributed to a faster fire spread
within the building. According to NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, the interior finish is required to be
Class A or B for general assembly areas with occupant loads of more than 300. It has been
calculated that the number of occupants at the Station Nightclub was around 440–458 people,
obviously well over this limit. The ignition of polyurethane foam gave out a magnitude of smoke
and heat in such a short period of time and created mass chaos, thus resulting in a crowd–wide panic
towards the initial entry point. Also NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, section 13.2.3.6.1 states that the
main entrance/exit shall be of a width that accommodates one–half of the total occupant load and
shall be at the level of exit discharge or shall connect to a stairway or ramp leading to a street. If the

Jaws Response Paper. Throughout Steven Spielberg’S Jaws
Jaws Response Paper Throughout Steven Spielberg's Jaws social class and wealth play a large role
in character development as well as story progression. As seen from the beginning, the town of
Amity is the hotspot for vacationers and in most cases, those of higher economic status. A stark
difference can be seen between the status of islanders (those who live in Amity) versus those who
only come to vacation, such as between Sheriff Brody and Dr. Hooper. Money and stature are also
key throughout the film as a motivator for several of the film's characters, specifically Mayor Larry
Vaughn, Quint and Dr. Hooper to drive their major decisions. In the very beginning of the film we

In contrast to the first incident the townspeople are now immediately swarming over the attack and
searching for answers. Mrs. Kinter, in her desperation for justice, even goes as far as blaming Brody
(again a non–islander) for her son's death rather than Mayor Vaughn who had been the real culprit
behind keeping the beaches open. She also enables two more examples of money and status driven
character development by offering a cash reward to anyone that can catch and kill the shark that
attacked her son. The character most obviously driven by financial gain is the fisherman Quint who
at the town meeting immediately following the attack on Alex Kintner explains that he will bring in
the shark for $10,000 instead of the $3,000 offered by Mrs. Kintner. Just as Mayor Vaughn seeks to
capitalize on the summertime and tourists, Quint is interested in his own financial gain rather than
the safety and wellbeing of the town. Dr. Hooper, as Mayor Vaughn points out, is also likely
motivated by money and stature related to finding and killing the monstrous shark. While trying to
explain how big and dangerous the shark really is, Mayor Vaughn criticizes Hooper for only
wanting to get fame and fortune by having his name in a National Geographic magazine. Although
he insists that he is strictly interested in the science behind the beast and protecting the people of
Amity the act of discovery often can harbor monetary and status related gain. As a researcher,

Musky Fish
Have you ever felt the feeling to hook into a lurking monster. Outdoor adventurists probably
targeted these species of fish one or multiple times. These wild creatures have taken a toll on the
most experienced anglers. Musky fishing has evolved such as by the equipment, the anglers
themselves, and the fish. This specific fish is a very interesting animal. The muskellunge (muskie) is
the largest member of the pike family. These fish love to lurk around rock bars, stumps, ledges, and
many different types of weeds. "A lean mean fightin' machine that is arguably the most sought–after
trophy in Wisconsin." (Terrance Dehring WI DNR). Muskies will attack almost anything that can fit
in there mouths such as muskrats, ducks, mice, and others. These fish are very aggressive they are a
superlative predator that lurks in the freshwaters of the northern states. Muskies can be located in
many states such as Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New
york and some provinces in Canada. The muskie is a very pressured fish in the northern states and
spots you have fished in the past have been overfished. The fish is a very smart animal that isn't

Analysis Of The Book ' Revelation ' Relationship Between...
Dale Ralph Davis, a theologian, professor, and pastor wrote a persuasive journal article involving
the book of Revelation entitled Relationship Between the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls in the Book
of Revelation. In this article he lays out his thesis as 'Each of these series of judgments [the Seals,
Trumpets, and Bowls] is primarily sequential to the preceding one(s), but that the end of each series
is parallel to the end of the other series (i.e., that the sixth and seventh seals, the seventh trumpet,
and the seventh bowl are parallel to each other)." He deems this view at the end of his article as a
"Successive–Final" view. Davis is taking two views of Revelation, the sequential view, and the
parallel view, and joining them together to creative the successive–final view that he and other
theologians hold to. He makes this point in his article by walking through the evidence for each
piece of his view. He begins with the evidence for the sequential view, where he mentions five
points that he believes backs up his view. First, as the book of Revelation progresses, the intensity of
the judgments does as well. Which we can see through the judgment from the seals being ¼ of the

Short Story : The Disney Dream
"Hurry up! We're going to miss the boat!," Sonali yelled back to her mom and dad who were
running behind her in the hot Florida sun. As she was running, pulling her 1,000 pound suitcase and
carrying a bulging green backpack, she caught a whiff of the ocean which smelled like a sewer.
Dripping with sweat and tired from what seemed like an eternity of running down the mile long
dock, they made it onto the boat just in time. The crew welcomed them by announcing "The Disney
Dream welcomes the Ciolino Family." After they checked into the room and unpacked, Sonali
suggested they take a tour of the enormous cruise ship and cool off with a frosty mug of lemonade.
"We should check out the opening concert on the upper deck and see everything that there is to do
on the boat." Sonali's parents agreed with her and they made their way to the upper deck. The deck
it smelled like chlorine from the pools and warm homemade chocolate chip cookies the size of
frisbees. The cool sea breeze was refreshing and was making the ornate streamers and balloons
dance in the sky. All of a sudden there was a loud explosion and it began raining rainbow colored
confetti all over us and the music started blaring "Party in the U.S.A." by Miley Cyrus, as the entire
cast of Disney characters flooded the dance floor that magically appeared over the olympic sized
pool on the deck. It was a giant party and, Sonali and her parents had a blast. Before they knew it, it

The Overfishing Problem Of South Africa
Sharks in South Africa
South Africa is known today to have problems in their waters. Not only are they just found in their
waters, but they are also found in many other familiar waters of other countries. The topic I will be
discussing about is the overfishing problem in South Africa. Not just ordinary overfishing, but
overfishing for sharks in particular. I decided to go with this topic because sharks are the top of the
food chain and often get misunderstood. From my knowledge, I am also aware that some species
like the Great White Shark are close to the level of extinction. To further my research, I would like
to find out why there is no protection for the sharks, how endangered are they to be coming extinct,
what laws if any are put into play to protect these apex predators, and finally why is shark fin soup
so expensive. Through some extensive research, I hope to answer most of these questions that
concern me about these apex predators.
A shark is equivalent to a black widow. You can live with it as long as you don't cross paths. The
basic instinct would be to kill a spider on spot once you see it. The personal instinct when
encountering a shark is to get away as possible from it. Both are deadly in their own personal way
and at the same time, both have the majority populous disagreeing against them as far as nobody
wanting anything to do with them. According to Cindy Watson, "Admittedly, sharks are not cuddly
and lovable" (Watson, 2010). This leads us to the "cuddly

Essay on Sharks
SHARKS
There are more that 250 species of sharks, ranging from the harmless whale shark to the ferocious
great white. I will describe the feeding habits and localities of the three greatly known to mankind:
the great white shark (Carcharodon Carcharias), the tiger shark (Galeocerdo Cuvieri), and the bull
shark (Carcharhinus Leucas).
The great white shark, known as Carchardon Carcharias, feeds regularly on marine mammals, such
as seals, sea lions, otters, dolphins, and whales. Samuel Gruber in Discovering Sharks writes that the
great white consumes marine mammals when they come across a deceased one. Even though the
great white has the reputation of a man–eater; they attack thinking that the diver or surfers on a short
board are part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They graze the Bahamas, Hawaii, Cuba, the Mediterranean, and any other warm waters.
The bull, shark known as Carcharimus Leucas, are widely cannibalistic. This means that they attack
their prey when it is still alive. Also like both the great white and tiger shark, bull sharks hunt
marine mammals. In Sharks and Other Dangerous Sea Creatures Idaz and Jerry Greenberg remark
that bull sharks encounter a large number of people since they (bull sharks) inhabit fresh and salt
water rivers and oceans. Bull sharks are found in the Pacific, Indian, and on both sides of the
Atlantic Ocean. Bull sharks rarely are found far from the shore line. Bulls have traveled up the
Mississippi, Zambezi, Amazon, Euphrates, and Tigris Rivers. The Greenbergs note that the bull
shark was thought to being separate species until recently. In South Africa the bull shark is known as
the Zambezi shark, one of the creatures that have been terrorizing the Natal Coast.
The Great White, Tiger, and Bull sharks are the greatest threat to mankind. I have told you what
they feed on and where they are located. These are just the three most dangerous out of 250 species
of sharks. Sharks are everywhere; you may be swimming with one every time you visit the beach
without knowing it.

Gentle Giants Have you ever thought of a shark being gentle? The whale shark is known as a
"gentle giant" because they do not attack humans, it would be very uncommon. Scientists still have
not discovered many others, as they may say. The whale shark has many very cool characteristics
that help them live their life. Whale sharks feed from what is called a "Filter Feeder". A filter feeder,
according to page 2, strain the zooplankton. The article states, "As it cruises through the ocean,
water flows continuously into its mouth. Filter pads in its throat strain out the zooplankton, and the
filtered water is expelled through the shark's gills..." (2).This shows how a filter feeder works and
what it is used for. Scientists still have not yet

Movie Analysis : ' Jaws '
Over the past few weeks we have watched a few horror movies "Jaws, "The Others", "Signs" and
"Frankenstein" but today we are just focusing on these three movies: "Jaws", "The Others" and
"Signs". "Frankenstein" was just a flat out boring movie because it was a movie that was black and
white and it showed portrayed nothing about how it made the movie suspenseful and scary. "Jaws"
was a movie that was made in 1975 which had nothing to scare people of this generation but at least
they used appropriate techniques to make the movie suspenseful. "The Others was a movie that was
made in 2001 and they did a excellent job of foreshadowing by stating the obvious at the beginning
of the movie but the weird part was nobody got what they meant but with this said I don't think that
the movie had used better techniques than "Signs", in "Signs" I think their techniques standed out
the most primarily because of the special effects they used to make the movie jaw–dropping, blood
curdling and eye–catching with this said I think the movie "Signs" did the best job in using the
proper techniques to create suspense and fear in addition the director of the movie "Signs", M.
Night, Shyamalan, has been nominated for 2 Best Screenplay awards and 1 Best Director award for
the movie "Signs" alone.
First I 'm going to discuss the techniques used in the 3 movies, the first technique is music; music in
horror movies is used to create a sense of fear. In "Jaws" they used music that went from slow,

Argumentative Essay On Rogue Sharks
To kill, or not to kill? That was the question everyone was asking on the 6th of November, 2000,
when Ken Crew was attacked and killed by a rogue shark off of Cottesloe Beach. Said shark also
turned to attack Crew's friend Dirk Avery who was able to escape with just a nip on the ankle and
was soon followed by WA Fisheries Officials in a boat, one of whom was carrying a rifle and
waiting for special permission from the Australian Government to shoot the shark. Eventually the
Officials received an order to let the shark live but at that point the 5m long great white had
disappeared into the ocean. The objective of this short essay is to examine the information the unit
has given, develop an opinion on rogue sharks and then present my opinion as to whether rogue
killer sharks should be killed or conserved.

regarding the question of this essay at Crew's funeral, which was "Let the shark live. Ken loved the
sea and appreciated the creatures that live in it. He would not have wanted the shark killed, and
neither do we." This statement was personally surprising as it could be seen as a rare view,
especially coming from the family of a man who was killed by a shark. People who have been
attacked by sharks and lived have stated that they feel no ill will towards their attacker. An example
of this is Heather Boswell, who went swimming with some friends in 1994 and lost her leg to a

The Blue Button is, in fact, a colony made up of different types of polyps, including some that are
specialised for catching food, defense, or reproduction.
Size: its disc is up to 2.5 cm across.
Behaviour

with their sting and then move the food to its mouth, which is on the underside of its disc.
Movement: it floats freely in the water, and is moved along by ocean currents and wind.
Breeding: Blue buttons are hermaphrodites (i.e. both male and female). The specialised reproductive
polyps release both eggs and sperm into the water. When the eggs have been fertilised by the sperm,
they develop into larvae that subsequently metamorphose into individual polyps. A Blue Button
colony forms when one polyp divides to form new types of polyps which become specialised for
different functions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Each Career In The Science Field Comes With Its Own Set
Each career in the science field comes with its own set of challenges. Aspiring wildlife biologists
and current scientists should know what the major challenges are in the field. Wildlife biologists
struggle to find a permanent job in general. There is a considerable amount of research projects that
rely on the government's funding (Wildlife Biologists Careers: Job Description & Salary Info).
Funding from the government can be limited, which puts time constraints on projects. Often, people
do not realize how important biologists are to their environment and do not care to know the impact,
they, as regular citizens, have on their world. This, consequently, pushes research to the side when it
comes to funding. This career is not one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because donations tend to run out quickly and volunteers may only be able to work for short periods
of time before they need a permanent job, organizations such as WWF have a high turnover rate of
workers. Considering the government is not able to finance every biology project needed, donations
are essential and only come from people who are adequately informed about what biologists do for
their environment. Organizations, such as the World Wildlife Fund, rely on volunteers and donations
from people surrounding the research area. People must care about for the environment to help it;
bringing awareness to everyone will help funding and eventually create new and permanent jobs for
scientists in this occupation. Jane Goodall, a primatologist who has been studying primates, such as
apes and chimpanzees, for over fifty years, states, "Only if we understand can we care. Only if we
care will we help (Denys 106). In other words, it is imperative that people be informed in order to
help biologists. The public's knowledge of their environment could help bring awareness to wildlife
organizations and government associations that help fund biologists. Overall, a properly educated
public can better understand what wildlife biologists do and citizens are more likely to help through
volunteering or donating to research projects. Although some say Along with the public being

Climate Change Is Damaging The Shrimp Species
It has been brought to attention that climate change is damaging the shrimp species. The U.S
government has become involved in regulating laws that benefit shrimp in order to recover.
However, this kind of regulation isn't happening for all species The Great White Shark for example
is also being affected by climate change. Unlike shrimp, the U.S. government isn't as strict when it
comes to laws protecting the Great White Shark. Thus, the difference between the Great White
Shark and shrimp suggest that the human population is willing to enforce protection to species that
have value to the human population.
In the United States only 24% of Americans believe that climate change is something to worry about

Increasing water temperatures decrease the amount of phytoplankton, which is what shrimp eat. As
the water temperature increases it takes a ripple effect into the marine ecosystem, phytoplankton
decrease in numbers, shrimp decline in numbers, those that prey off of shrimp decline and so on
(Trotter). This then leads species to migrate to stable habitats, but survival of the fittest takes into
place and large amounts die off in the process. In South Carolina, Charleston, Harriet McLeod talks
about a "tiny" parasite killing shrimp by targeting their gills and making it hard for them to breathe.
In the article this parasite was described such as having the shrimp smoke about three packets of
cigarettes and then making it run a marathon. It attacks their respiratory system and this then "ruins
their endurance making them weak amongst predators," says McLeod. This was said to cause
decline profit from the shrimp industries and to make the shrimp season much shorter. There was a
theory that the reason for declining shrimp numbers for this parasite being existent was the drought,
but when rainfall was recorded in the southeast they knew that it wasn't the drought. The rainfall
caused a change in the salinity of the water which means that the shrimp wouldn't be able to survive
from the freshwater mixture with the salty water (McLeod). This was said

The Bottle-nosed Dolphin Essay
The Bottle–nosed Dolphin is the most studied and generally the best–known species of dolphin.
Bottle–nosed dolphins are classified "Tursiops truncates" in scientific name, and belong
to the family Delphinidae, in the suborder Odontoceti, order Cetacea.
This animal is a very intelligent individual. Bottle–nosed dolphins are commonly found in zoos or
marine parks because of their capability to perform tricks. They can jump through hoops 5 meters
high because of their incredibly powerful tail. As well as jumping, Bottle–nosed dolphins can raise
themselves upright out of the water and travel backwards, by threshing their tails.

Bottle–nosed dolphins live for 30 to 50 years and grow from about a 6–inch calf, up to 10–foot long
mature adult in some cases. The female Bottle–nosed dolphin has a gestation period of 12 months
long, after which the mother nurses the calf for about 18 months. During this period, the calf will
learn practical skills such as how to find and capture food, how to recognize other dolphins. Bottle–
nosed dolphins have a multimale, multifemale mating society. There no aggression when it comes to
mating from either male or female.
Generally, Bottle–nosed dolphins are a dark gray or black colour above, with a lighter colour on its
stomach, which can change to a flushed pink colour in warm water. These animals have a
prominent, curved back fin with a thin trailing edge that readily tatters. The Bottle–nosed dolphin
gets its name from its rostrum, which is shaped like a bottle.
Bottle–nosed dolphins were hunted in the 19th and 20th century for their skin, but now are a legally
protected species but killings still occurring due to angry fishermen and fishing nets. If this creature
were to of become extinct, I believe there would not of been that greater change because the Bottle–
nosed dolphin has no immediate predators and feeds on a wide range of sea life.

Have you ever had a dream where you are alone, drifting in the middle of the ocean, and you see a
fin piercing through the waves? What you were seeing was the Carcharodon carcharias or the Great
White Shark. It is a member of the Pisces class and mainly lives in tropical and subtropical areas..
The Great White Shark is unlike many sharks because it jumps out of the water. The Great White
Shark truly is a great shark. Living in the wild is no easy task, and that is why Great White Sharks
have many special ''features'' to help them survive and hunt, those functions have been developed
over million years. Although they haven't been perfected they still help the shark. One of those
''features'' is the shark's dorsal fin. The dorsal fin is a dynamic stabilizer when the shark is
swimming fast after it's prey. The next ''feature'' is the tail. The tail is used to propel the shark
forward and assist in turning while swimming at high speeds. The final ''feature'' are the jaws. The

subtropical things interact with the Great White Shark. Living things that interact with the
organisms are called biotic factors. One biotic factor is the amount of prey the shark can find. If the
shark can't find any fish or they escape from the shark he might be affected in negative ways.
Another biotic factor is if there are any human hunters in the area. If there are some human hunters
in the area the shark has to be careful so he doesn't get caught. And the final biotic factor I will tell
you about are symbiotic relationships. The shark doesn't eat all fish, and one of the types of fish the
shark doesn't eat is the remora fish. The smaller ones cling to the shark and eat the scraps of food
the shark drops but it also feeds of the parasites on the sharks skin and in the shark's

Steven Spielberg 's Jaws And Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg is a director who has made many movies including Jaws (1975) and Jurassic Park
(1993). Both Jaws and Jurassic Park show animals behaving in the way that nature intended them to
behave. However, in Jaws the animal finds himself trapped in an unnatural environment, an inlet
where humans swim. In Jurassic Park, animals that became extinct millions of years ago, dinosaurs,
also find themselves in unnatural environment occupied by humans. I want to compare these two
movies because I enjoy action movies and thrillers. Also they were both made before I was born and
I have only seen them now for the first time. Both movies hold the audience attention from the very
beginning and you feel yourself going through the emotions that the actors display. Steven Spielberg
uses nature in both films as his theme to develop his story. In Jaws there is a great white shark that
terrorizes a small island town and in Jurassic Park there are manufactured dinosaurs that are
developed out of altered DNA that terrorize an island that was to be a theme park.
In Jaws there is a large white shark who seems to be unstoppable. The movie begins with an
unsuspecting girl swimming when the shark comes up on her and kills her. From the moment the
movie begins the viewer knows who the villain is. The cast consists of Roy Schneider as Chief
Brody who struggles throughout the movie to do the right thing to save lives while the politicians

The Causes And Impacts Of The Great White Shark
Widely feared by all is the shark and leading the charge is the Great White Shark. The Great White
is a species of large mackerel shark, which can be found in almost all coastal and offshore waters
which have water temperatures between 12 and 24°C with greater concentrations in the United
States, Oceania, Chile, South Africa and the Mediterranean. The Great White is a keystone species,
which regulates abundance, distribution, and diversity of marine life. Additionally, they provide
essential food for scavengers and help in natural selection to remove the weak from populations.
(Sharks as keystone species, 2016)
Sharks ancestry dates back more than 400 million years, and they are even older than dinosaurs.
These animals are uniquely adapted to their environment with six highly refined senses of touch,
taste, sight, smell, hearing and electromagnetism. They are the top predators in the ocean, with the
only real threat to their survival being humans. Each year, thousands of sharks are being killed by
human activity including illegal poaching, illegal hunting, culling, and shark nets place along
coastlines. (Sharks as keystone species, 2016)
Although relatively rare, shark bite incidents draw an immense level of interest from both the public
and the media, as they often result in serious consequence for those involved. Globally the number
of negative shark bite incidents has increased over the years, but this has been largely attributed to
population increase and more people

designed to display a shower of sparks. The sparks ignited foam soundproofing near stage. The fire
spread quickly. Most were killed either in the crush to exit the building or overcome by fumes while

Several handheld extinguishers are located at various points in the club. There was no fire

Station was required to have a sprinkler installed. The Station had recently received an inspection by
West Warwick Fire Marshal Dennis Laroque. The owners were cited for several violations including
expired fire extinguishers and some that needed to be hung along with gasoline stored inside the
building. In his statements to police, Laroque says that the critical violation that he was concerned
about was the exit door near the stage. It had a second inner door that did not have panic hardware
attached and opened into the showroom. They had been previously cited and had removed the door
to pass follow–up inspections only to replace it shortly after. The occupancy capacity for the Station
is also up for debate. There are notations in West Warwick permitting documents as low as 253 and
as high as 404. The NIST estimates that 2003 model codes would place occupancy at about 430
people with no tables and chairs. Estimates of the crowd on the night of the fire range from 440 to

and a timeless classic. A traditional story about man against beast takes place on an island that

The three main (human) characters are Brody (Roy Scheider), the police chief, who came to the

Down at the docks someone does manage I to reel in an impressive sized tiger shark. While
everyone is giving out pats on the back Hooper is the one that finds out that the wrong shark has
been caught. He states that while this species has attacked humans and is foreign to these waters the
bite radius doesn't match up to the first victim.
Being an outsider no one is inclined to listen to Hooper. To proven his point Hooper and Brody
sneak down to the docks to cut open the shark. Among many strange findings none are human
remains. This piques Hooper's curiosity and he drags Brody (who is afraid of boats and water) out
on his boat to see what they can find in the waters surrounding the island. They come across a boat
wreck and upon closer inspection they discover that the wreck is the work of the sought after shark.
With the evidence they've uncovered Hooper and Brody go to the Mayor and demand he shut down
the beaches. With no physical evidence that the wrong shark has been caught the Mayor decides to
open the beaches for the 4th of July.
The 4th of July is a bright and sunny day but no one is going in the water. The Mayor, fearing the
worst, coaxes on of his friends to make the first move and go for a swim. In no time everyone is in
the water enjoying their 4th of July.
By this time Sheriff Brody's summer help has arrived

Why Should We Protect Sharks
Should We Protect Sharks? "Sharks are among the most perfectly constructed creatures in nature.
Some forms have survived for two hundred million years." (Eugenie Clark) This may be a beautiful
quote, but it is often the opposite of what comes to mind when people think of sharks. Shark's safety
has never been a big concern; but should it be? Many articles are now saying that we should be
doing more to protect these aquatic creatures. They balance ecosystems, and barely bite – but we
harvest them like meat!
One of the many reasons we should protect sharks is the fact that they are very important to the
oceans ecosystem. Many people enjoy sea food like salmon, cod, etc. With no sharks, many other
species would be off the map. Peter Benchley describes them as, "... above all, integral members of
the ocean food chain." Sharon Guynup's article What Do You Know About Sharks says something
similar. "Without sharks, the ocean's delicate ecosystem would be disrupted." Species that sharks
normally eat such as seals would start overpopulating and would soon wipe out the animals they
normally eat, like small fish. Because sharks are such dangerous predators to ... Show more content

Scientists are estimating that, worldwide, populations of some species of sharks dropped by 80%!
We harvest these poor sharks like its nothing. Sharon Gunyup says, "But the shark's greatest enemy
is people. Humans kill sharks for food, use their skins for leather, make medicine from their oil, and
use shark teeth for jewelry." Not only is it bad that we are killing them, but what you probably don't
know is that shark populations take a while to rebound. Most sharks take at least 9–10 years to reach
the reproductive age and produce very small litters of pups. Sharks have been around longer than
dinosaurs; these are majestic creatures and we need to stop finning, harvesting, and hurting them.
They deserve to live, just like

Persuasive Short Story

 • 1. Persuasive Short Story Lisa and Kate are sisters and they go on a vacation to Mexico. Lisa and her boyfriend had just broke up before they left for the vacation but Lisa did not tell Kate. Kate eventually finds out about Lisa and her boyfriend breaking up. Kate takes Lisa to a party so she is not as sad. At the party they meet two men, Louis and Benjamin. The next day Lisa and Kate go hang out with Louis and Benjamin and they introduce Taylor to the girls. Taylor is the captain of a boat that takes people scuba diving. The sisters decide to go with them to go scuba diving. When they get on the boat Louis and Benjamin get in the cage and go see the sharks first. When Lisa and Kate are getting into the cage Taylor informs them about the meter that tells them how much oxygen they have left. While Lisa and Kate are in the cage the cable holding the cage to the boat breaks. They fall 47 meters down in the ocean. They are too far down to get in contact with Taylor through the radio. Kate gets out of the cage and swims higher so she can get in touch with Taylor. Taylor tells Kate to get back in the cage and stay in there. He says he's going to send Javier (Taylor's first mate) down with another cable to hook on the cage. Kate is getting low on oxygen but they see a flashlight so Lisa goes to see if it is Javier. While Lisa is headed to meet Javier great white sharks show up, but she is able to hide. After the sharks leave Lisa keeps swimming to the flashlight but when she gets there Javier is not ... • 2. Descriptive Essay On A Bathtub In a nook, hidden away in a spacious house, on the shore of Cape Cod, lies a bathtub. The white acrylic platform glistens when the sun shines through the lengthy window. During darkness, a candle can be seen, with the flame standing still, no wind, and no sound. The aroma of Sun and Sand scented Yankee Candle turns the blue walls of the bathroom into a clear, sky and the tile floors into warm sand of a tropical island. Beyond this bathroom door lies chaos. As the door creaks open, eight siblings, loud television shows, and pots and pans tossing, would bombard you. If you are lucky my black cuddly dog would knock you over. You may believe that a bathtub is just an ordinary household essential, but take all of your life experiences and dump them here. It is as if it is a shark cage protecting you from the massive great white shark approaching. In the cage you know you are safe, you can hear your deepest thoughts, and all is well. Take a deeper look into the bathtub bubbles– it will become so much more. I became hooked from the start, my very first bath. I certainly did not remember this occurrence, but the picture of my bald head with that from the ear to ear smile, sitting in a bubbly sink, proved that it was love at first sight. Then onto the days where my mother would put my brother and I in the bath together. Then came four children, then six. Luckily for me, by the time my eighth sibling came along I was far too old for these family bath sessions. I was granted my own, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 3. Environmental Summary: The Great White Shark Environment The Great White Shark, scientifically known as the Carcharodon carcharias, was possibly 2016's scasriest fish. The Great White shark's environment was the aquatic marine biome, and it usually lived off the coasts of Australia, South Africa, and California. Although thier usual habitat was shallow coastal waters, Great Whites have been recorded in depths up to 3,900ft. The climate of the water they lived in was between 54 and 75°F. The limiting factors of the shark's habitat were the nutrients and oxygen levels in the water. The Great White shark was the largest predatorial fish in the whole world. The Great White shark shared the ocean with about 440 other species of sharks, but its only natural predator was the Killer Whale, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most promient feature was the 300 triangle shaped teeth in multiple rows that were designed to rip apart the flesh of thier prey. Another adaptation of the Great White was its impeccable sense of smell. These giant carnivores can detect one drop of blood per 25 gallons of water. They even had special organs to detect the electromagnetic field that the movement of living animals produces. These particular sharks are so sensitive that the can pick up variations as small as half a billionth of a volt. This shark's coloring was also a carefully selected adaptation due to natural selection. They had a grey dorsal area and a white belly. When viewed from the side, the color change broke up the sharks silhouette, making it more capable at blending in with the mottled water. This is all because of natural selection. For example, the sharks with the colorings that stood out the most would die from lack of food, while the grey and white sharks would keep surviving because they could blend into the water more. So the Great White sharks inherieted thier coloring from thier ancestorsThe ecological niche of the Great White shark was to control the food chain, because it was at the top of it's food chain and could control how the population of its prey increased and ... • 4. Creative Story : A Short Story It was turning dark, starting to rain and shadows were cast all over the cemetery. The only light was from the headlights of the car we came in. There was a slight cold breeze from the north and it was about 60 degrees. My hair would be all over the place if it weren't for my bandana with the American flag pictured on the front. "Napoleon, come here." Gertrude my 18 year old sister told me. "This is the spot of mom and pa's murder when they were looking at grandpa's grave." "Wait murder! You said they got in a car crash! Why didn't you tell me." "You were three years old when it happened 11 years ago and you weren't very mature until now!" Gertrude explained. "You lied to me for 11 years!" I screamed and ran to the car. The car ride home was quiet. It was like the car was filled with dead people. When we got there I went to the docks downstairs where I was working on a new submarine. The only problem is the door I made is 5 foot tall and I'm 5' 2" and Gertrude is 5' 11". A week has passed and the mansion is still dead quiet from the argument a week ago. Luckily, I finished the submarine and Gertrude and I are leaving today to try and find Atlantis. "Gertrude are you ready?" I screamed up the stairs toward her room. "Yes, I am just grabbing my camera. I'll be down at the dock in a few minutes." Gertrude replied. "Ok, I have all of your diving gear and 2 oxygen tanks." I responded. Starting to walk down the ... Jaws Cinematography During the film Steve Spielberg uses music, a mysterious shark and camera techniques such as simultaneous track and zoom, long shot, close up shots and medium shots to build suspense, tension and scare the audience. The music represents the shark, especially its movements and its presence. In the title sequence the camera is moving along the seabed like a shark. Spielberg makes the audience believe that the camera is viewing things through the shark's eyes, he uses a camera shot called point of view shot. The music makes the shark seem a mystery because you haven't yet seen the shark but you can feel its presence. The music clouds your vision and makes you imagine and believe something that actually isn't even there. It builds tension ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Police Chief Brody jumps up from his tense sitting position and shouts for everybody to get out of the water. This was what Police Chief Brody was worried about. The boy, Alex is a lost cause can do nothing but scream, splash and attempt to believe he can escape from the sharks clutches. Alex is dragged down violently as he tries to gasp for breath; he is finally dragged and lost to the depths of the dark sea. The camera shot is really close up to the boy as he is fighting for his life; we see his pain, his struggle and his death. Everyone on the beach couldn't miss the raft in the distance flip over and the blood spill into the sea. Though audience might have had to do a double take, because if you look carefully the camera does show the shark, the shark is the one that flipped over the raft. After everybody's out of the water it is silent like the previous attack not necessarily calm but perhaps subdued shock. There is lots of clever camera techniques used in the second attack scene, which are used to create tension and fear. Close ups of Police Chief Brody looking intensely into the sea, views of the sea and the underwater camera shot where we view through the sharks eyes are all clever camera techniques which create tension and fear. What Is The Theme Of Who Moved My Cheese Who Moved My Cheese "Who Moved My Cheese?" written by Spencer Johnson is a philosophical book directed to the people who find difficulty in finding their ultimate destiny in life, or in this case, their "Cheese". The story starts with a high school reunion, where several former schoolmates gather for lunch. After lunch, they start exchanging their stories of how far they have succeeded in their careers, and it turns out that all of them had some sort of fear of changes that have taken place in their lives, after school. One of the alumni, who claim to have gone through the same phase, narrates a story which had helped him in moulding his career in a much better way. The little people though, didn't do the same, and mourned on the fact that the supply which they thought would stay forever has suddenly vanished. They kept searching for the same old cheese around the station and waited for someone to refill the station with cheese. After some days, the mice, Sniff and Scurry came across another station, Cheese Station N which had the biggest cheese supply they had ever seen. And all this time, Hem and Haw were waiting at the Station C for the cheese to come back. At last Haw realised that there wouldn't be any cheese coming back and wondered what the mice might be doing now. He dreamt of biting on the new cheese they might find if they go out and starts out in his journey. Hem doesn't acknowledge the same fact and still decides to wait for his old cheese to come back. And after some days Haw returns with some crumbs of the New Cheese but Hem doesn't accept it, saying that he wants the cheese which he finds for himself and not what Haw brings for him. At that moment, Haw decides to move on and search for cheese again. And eventually he too finds the Station N and is greeted by the mice, which evidently have been enjoying the cheese at the N Station. Tiger Shark DeGrandis Ashley DeGrandis Oceanography December 12, 2008 Prof. Eric Stern The Wastebasket of The Sea The Tiger shark, also known as the "wastebasket of the sea"(National Geographic), is the fourth largest predatory shark in the ocean, measuring between twenty and twenty five feet long and can weigh more than 2000 pounds. They have dark, vertical stripes on their bodies which is the reason they are named tiger sharks. According to National Geographic, these stripes fade lighter as the shark grows older, and eventually disappears with age. The head of the tiger shark is somewhat wedge–shaped which greatly helps the shark to turn quickly from one side to the other. Like other sharks, they have small pits on the side of their upper ... The litter usually ranges from ten to eighty pups, each one measuring between twenty to thirty inches long. Unlike many other animals, the young leave it's mother upon birth. Because tiger sharks have become such a threat to humans in Hawaii, between 1959 and 1976, 4668 tiger sharks were hunted and killed, but who is to say it is all their fault? Popular movies incorporating shark attacks such as Jaws sent frightened sun bathers running from the ocean, and as every beach lifeguard knows, there's nothing like a gruesome shark attack to provoke a giant hysteria of public paranoia. Theses shark attacks upon swimmers and surfers off the coast of mainly Hawaii and Florida's Atlantic coast has left the public seeking and demanding an explanation for the high number of attacks. The truth? "'The one thing that's affecting shark attacks more than anything else is human activity,' said Dr George Burgess of Florida University, a shark expert who maintains the database. 'As the population continues to rise, so does the number of people in the water for recreation. And as long as we have an increase in human hours in the water, we will have an increase in shark bites."(Richard Luscombe) This quote basically suggests that we, humans, are one large portion of the problem concerning shark attacks. Jaws was the box–office sensation of 1975 and the number–one hit movie of the decade until 1977's 'Star Wars'; this was a time when the success or failure of a few blockbusters began to determine the course of the entire motion picture industry. The film is about a killer shark that causes havoc among an island resort town, called Amity, somewhere in New England. The bell is a warning sound and gives us the impression that something bad is going to happen. We also know that the girl will be part of the attack for a two reasons. One, the camera focuses on her and follows her around the screen and two, she is the first person in the water and we know that the there is a contrast between the safety of the land and the dangers that lurk in the sea. Now that the young girl is in the sea, we being to hear the theme of the shark. The two very low semitones create suspense in the viewer because we know the shark is nearby and that the young girl is in danger. The two notes begin to get faster and faster, until there is silence and we see the young girl swimming. We know something is going happen, but we are in suspense because the music has stopped and we are waiting to see if the shark is still there. We then get our answer when we see the girl, seemingly getting pulled underneath the water. We do not see what is pulling her down but we know it is something strong and powerful. ... • 9. Splendor Ship Research Paper Carnival Cruise Lines: Fire Aboard a Stranded Cruise Ship In the early morning hours of November 8, 2010 the aft engine room of the Carnival Splendor ship caught fire, and left the ship without power. The Splendor ship is one of the largest ships in the Carnival fleet with 13 passenger decks. The ship is so large it requires six diesel engines to operate. Half of the engines are located in the aft (or rear) engine room and the other half are located in a forward engine room. These engine rooms are connected together by electric switchboards and cables. "The blaze was extinguished within a few hours by crew members with the aid of the built–in fire–suppression system" (O'Rourke, 2013, p140). Fortunately, no crew or passengers were injured (O'Rourke, 2013). The Splendor ship had been inspected regularly pursuant to the Coast Guard and all regulations. • 10. Essay on Bottlenose Dolphins Bottlenose Dolphins This essay is NOT formatted Bottlenose dolphins are among the most vocal of the nonhuman animals and exhibit remarkable development of the sound production and auditory mechanisms. This can be seen in audition, which is shown in the animal's highly refined echolocation ability, and in tightly organized schools in which they live that are made up by sound communication. In testing the communication skills of dolphins, extensive studies have been done on vocal mimicry, in which the animal imitates computer–generated sounds in order to test motor control in terms of cognitive ability. Language comprehension on the other hand has been tested through labeling of objects, which has proven to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1986). In order to understand the complexity of these highly mechanized acoustic systems, it is necessary to learn the process for which the dolphin hears. In most water–adapted cetaceans, tissue conduction is the primary route of sound conduction to the middle ear. The isolation of the bullae shows an adaptation for tissue conducted sound. The lower jaw contains fat that is closely associated with the impedance of seawater. The lower jawbone of most odontocetes becomes broadened and quite thin posteriorly, and the fat forms an oval shape that closely corresponds to the area of minimum thickness of the jaw. This fat body leads directly to the bulla, producing a sound path to the ear structures located deep within the head. Paired and single air sacs are scattered throughout the skull, which serve to channel these tissue–conducted sounds (Popov & Supin, 1991). Other than this description, there are still more studies needed to determine the function of the middle ear and the type of bone conduction that occurs within the bulla. Due to detailed audiograms, dolphins have been shown to have the ability to detect high–frequency sounds. In an experiment by Johnson (1966) as cited in Schusterman et al. (1986), sine–wave sounds ranging in frequency from 75 Hz to 150 Hz were presented to a bottle–nosed dolphin. The animal was trained to swim in a stationary area within a stall and to ... SHORT COMMUNICATION A novel case of nuturant care: Adoption of a presumed Delphinus calf by bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) in Far North waters, New Zealand. CH Petersa* and KA Stockina aCoastal–Marine Research Group, Institute of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand Worldwide inter–specific behavioural interactions in the order Cetacea are diverse and often complex. Epimelatic care can be described as nurturant or Succorant in nature. Adoption can be classified as nuturant behaviour, however very few examples of nuturant adoption have been reported among wild cetaceans and even less between species. During routine dedicated transect surveys, an adult female bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) was found in the presence of a young common dolphin calf that did not appear to be her own. This mother–calf–like relationship lasted 9 months until the mother was sighted on multiple occasions without the calf. This paper describes repeated behavioural observations of apparent inter–specific association, and discusses the "type" and potential function of this interaction. Yet, even as sharks have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, the summer of 1916 presented the first unexpected change for these great animals. 1916 July 1st, 1916: The Battle of the Somme begins and the British army suffers 57,470 casualties and 19,240 deaths in just one day 's time. In the span of that week, children were dying at the rate of one per hour from a polio epidemic in New York City alone. Yet, the American press turned all attention to the "man–eaters" on New Jersey 's shore during July of 1916, as five unprovoked attacks shocked America and it 's beach–goers. Up until the summer of 1916 the average American was by large shielded from sharks, and the idea of attacks was deemed as being far–fetched in the small New Jersey beach towns. Despite this belief and most beliefs surrounding these unique animals at the time, Charles Vansant was attacked just three and a half feet in water on July 1st, 1916; dying hours later from blood loss. Five days later on the 6th of July, Charles Bruder had both legs severed off while on a solo swim– 45 miles out from the attack on Vansant. The third day of attacks came on the 12th of July. Incendiary Fire Analysis and Investigation Summary of the Incident On February 20, 2003, at 23:10 hours, the West Warwick, Rhode Island fire department was dispatched to a structure fire at 211 Cowesett Avenue (Grosshandler, Bryner, Madrzykowski, & Kuntz, 2005). The structure was the location of "The Station" nightclub, which contained an estimated 458 occupants, which was above the maximum allowed occupancy of 404 which was established by the City of West Warwick (Grosshandler et al., 2005). The fire resulted in a massive loss of life as 96 people died at the scene, 3 died within days, and one person died 70 days later, bringing the death toll to 100 persons (Grosshandler et al., 2005). The large crowd was present at the nightclub to witness a performance of the rock band "Great White", who used pyrotechnics during the performance which directly contributed to the ignition of polyurethane foam panels that were installed in the building by the club owners to serve as soundproofing. As the fire began to grow occupants began to panic and immediately headed for the exits. The majority of the occupants attempted to use the front main exit which was composed of a set of double doors, which led to a corridor, which included a single door that exited to the outside of the building (Grosshandler et al., 2005). The exit was quickly blocked as occupants began to stack up at the exit. The fire rapidly spread throughout the occupancy and the structure quickly become untenable. The end result was a combination of 583 fire, EMS, and police personnel including 57 ambulances (BLS & ALS) and two buses for transportation and shelter. The Local, State and Federal agencies were called to investigate the Station Nightclub fire incident and they found many issues. The polyurethane foam that was on the interior walls was the major factor in the Station Nightclub fire. It was easily ignited and also contributed to a faster fire spread within the building. According to NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, the interior finish is required to be Class A or B for general assembly areas with occupant loads of more than 300. It has been calculated that the number of occupants at the Station Nightclub was around 440–458 people, obviously well over this limit. The ignition of polyurethane foam gave out a magnitude of smoke and heat in such a short period of time and created mass chaos, thus resulting in a crowd–wide panic towards the initial entry point. Also NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, section 13.2.3.6.1 states that the main entrance/exit shall be of a width that accommodates one–half of the total occupant load and shall be at the level of exit discharge or shall connect to a stairway or ramp leading to a street. Throughout Steven Spielberg’S Jaws Jaws Response Paper Throughout Steven Spielberg's Jaws social class and wealth play a large role in character development as well as story progression. As seen from the beginning, the town of Amity is the hotspot for vacationers and in most cases, those of higher economic status. A stark difference can be seen between the status of islanders (those who live in Amity) versus those who only come to vacation, such as between Sheriff Brody and Dr. Hooper. In contrast to the first incident the townspeople are now immediately swarming over the attack and searching for answers. Mrs. Kinter, in her desperation for justice, even goes as far as blaming Brody (again a non–islander) for her son's death rather than Mayor Vaughn who had been the real culprit behind keeping the beaches open. She also enables two more examples of money and status driven character development by offering a cash reward to anyone that can catch and kill the shark that attacked her son. The character most obviously driven by financial gain is the fisherman Quint who at the town meeting immediately following the attack on Alex Kintner explains that he will bring in the shark for $10,000 instead of the $3,000 offered by Mrs. Kintner. Just as Mayor Vaughn seeks to capitalize on the summertime and tourists, Quint is interested in his own financial gain rather than the safety and wellbeing of the town. Dr. Hooper, as Mayor Vaughn points out, is also likely motivated by money and stature related to finding and killing the monstrous shark. While trying to explain how big and dangerous the shark really is, Mayor Vaughn criticizes Hooper for only wanting to get fame and fortune by having his name in a National Geographic magazine. Although he insists that he is strictly interested in the science behind the beast and protecting the people of Amity the act of discovery often can harbor monetary and status related gain. Dale Ralph Davis, a theologian, professor, and pastor wrote a persuasive journal article involving the book of Revelation entitled Relationship Between the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls in the Book of Revelation. In this article he lays out his thesis as 'Each of these series of judgments [the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls] is primarily sequential to the preceding one(s), but that the end of each series is parallel to the end of the other series (i.e., that the sixth and seventh seals, the seventh trumpet, and the seventh bowl are parallel to each other)." He deems this view at the end of his article as a "Successive–Final" view. Davis is taking two views of Revelation, the sequential view, and the parallel view, and joining them together to creative the successive–final view that he and other theologians hold to. He makes this point in his article by walking through the evidence for each piece of his view. He begins with the evidence for the sequential view, where he mentions five points that he believes backs up his view. First, as the book of Revelation progresses, the intensity of the judgments does as well. Which we can see through the judgment from the seals being ¼ of the people and the judgments of the trumpets being ⅓ of the people. Second, the differences in the sequence of the series. The topic I will be discussing about is the overfishing problem in South Africa. Not just ordinary overfishing, but overfishing for sharks in particular. I decided to go with this topic because sharks are the top of the food chain and often get misunderstood. From my knowledge, I am also aware that some species like the Great White Shark are close to the level of extinction. To further my research, I would like to find out why there is no protection for the sharks, how endangered are they to be coming extinct, what laws if any are put into play to protect these apex predators, and finally why is shark fin soup so expensive. Through some extensive research, I hope to answer most of these questions that concern me about these apex predators. A shark is equivalent to a black widow. You can live with it as long as you don't cross paths. The basic instinct would be to kill a spider on spot once you see it. The personal instinct when encountering a shark is to get away as possible from it. Both are deadly in their own personal way and at the same time, both have the majority populous disagreeing against them as far as nobody wanting anything to do with them. In Sharks and Other Dangerous Sea Creatures Idaz and Jerry Greenberg remark that bull sharks encounter a large number of people since they (bull sharks) inhabit fresh and salt water rivers and oceans. Bull sharks are found in the Pacific, Indian, and on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Bull sharks rarely are found far from the shore line. Bulls have traveled up the Mississippi, Zambezi, Amazon, Euphrates, and Tigris Rivers. The Greenbergs note that the bull shark was thought to being separate species until recently. Funding from the government can be limited, which puts time constraints on projects. Because donations tend to run out quickly and volunteers may only be able to work for short periods of time before they need a permanent job, organizations such as WWF have a high turnover rate of workers. Considering the government is not able to finance every biology project needed, donations are essential and only come from people who are adequately informed about what biologists do for their environment. Organizations, such as the World Wildlife Fund, rely on volunteers and donations from people surrounding the research area. People must care about for the environment to help it; bringing awareness to everyone will help funding and eventually create new and permanent jobs for scientists in this occupation. Jane Goodall, a primatologist who has been studying primates, such as apes and chimpanzees, for over fifty years, states, "Only if we understand can we care. Only if we care will we help (Denys 106). Evaluation Of AApplication Criteria Results 5.5 Application Criteria Results At the broader level of all kinds of rest stopping station's planning, it is important to identifying all stopping opportunities along the Expressway No.1 route. Locations of stopping opportunities along the route include Full–Service Traveler Center, Traveler Service Centers, Rest area and Check and Control Points. Examining these assists in finding sections of the route where new rest centers or improvements will complement existing stopping opportunities [60]. Adding Security & Control Check Points for the facilities in developing these criteria was to ensure the safety journey for all future Dry Canal project and to control the goods movement through this intercontinental hub over the Iraqi territory. Following this route, application criteria over the southern section of the Expressway No.1according to regulation (E.C.)561/2006 could be that; Cargo vehicles/truck drivers and all the route users must stop for a defined period in accordance with law. These stops which regulated by Regulation (EC) No.561/2006 could be definite over the Expressway No.1 both sections accordance to the actual lengths. Starting from the point R0, which represents the closer station to Baghdad city near Abu–Gharib region in the middle of the country it is considered as the main station over the middle of the Expressway No.1 route as well. • 30. Climate Change Is Damaging The Shrimp Species It has been brought to attention that climate change is damaging the shrimp species. The U.S government has become involved in regulating laws that benefit shrimp in order to recover. However, this kind of regulation isn't happening for all species The Great White Shark for example is also being affected by climate change. Unlike shrimp, the U.S. government isn't as strict when it comes to laws protecting the Great White Shark. Thus, the difference between the Great White Shark and shrimp suggest that the human population is willing to enforce protection to species that have value to the human population. In the United States only 24% of Americans believe that climate change is something to worry about and is a serious issue (Riffkin). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Increasing water temperatures decrease the amount of phytoplankton, which is what shrimp eat. As the water temperature increases it takes a ripple effect into the marine ecosystem, phytoplankton decrease in numbers, shrimp decline in numbers, those that prey off of shrimp decline and so on (Trotter). This then leads species to migrate to stable habitats, but survival of the fittest takes into place and large amounts die off in the process. In South Carolina, Charleston, Harriet McLeod talks about a "tiny" parasite killing shrimp by targeting their gills and making it hard for them to breathe. In the article this parasite was described such as having the shrimp smoke about three packets of cigarettes and then making it run a marathon. It attacks their respiratory system and this then "ruins their endurance making them weak amongst predators," says McLeod. This was said to cause decline profit from the shrimp industries and to make the shrimp season much shorter. There was a theory that the reason for declining shrimp numbers for this parasite being existent was the drought, but when rainfall was recorded in the southeast they knew that it wasn't the drought. The rainfall caused a change in the salinity of the water which means that the shrimp wouldn't be able to survive from the freshwater mixture with the salty water (McLeod). This was said ... • 31. Rhode Island Fire Research Paper Rhode Island Nightclub Fire A fire can happen anywhere at any time, if the conditions are right. These conditions could be, the condition of the building is in, the weather, how many people are in the structure, or what is going on inside that structure. A fire is defined as the rapid oxidation with evolution of heat and light (flame) or as an uncontrolled combustion. An investigation happens at every fire so that way the cause and origin are known (DeHaan, 2). A specific fire happened on February 20, 2003, at a night in Rhode Island. The night club is called The Station, and this club was located in West Warwick, Rhode Island, and was holding a concert where the Great White performed. • 32. The Bottle-nosed Dolphin Essay The Bottle–nosed Dolphin is the most studied and generally the best–known species of dolphin. Bottle–nosed dolphins are classified "Tursiops truncates" in scientific name, and belong to the family Delphinidae, in the suborder Odontoceti, order Cetacea. This animal is a very intelligent individual. Bottle–nosed dolphins are commonly found in zoos or marine parks because of their capability to perform tricks. They can jump through hoops 5 meters high because of their incredibly powerful tail. As well as jumping, Bottle–nosed dolphins can raise themselves upright out of the water and travel backwards, by threshing their tails. Bottle–nosed dolphins are generally coastal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bottle–nosed dolphins live for 30 to 50 years and grow from about a 6–inch calf, up to 10–foot long mature adult in some cases. The female Bottle–nosed dolphin has a gestation period of 12 months long, after which the mother nurses the calf for about 18 months. During this period, the calf will learn practical skills such as how to find and capture food, how to recognize other dolphins. Bottle– nosed dolphins have a multimale, multifemale mating society. There no aggression when it comes to mating from either male or female. Generally, Bottle–nosed dolphins are a dark gray or black colour above, with a lighter colour on its stomach, which can change to a flushed pink colour in warm water. These animals have a prominent, curved back fin with a thin trailing edge that readily tatters. The Bottle–nosed dolphin gets its name from its rostrum, which is shaped like a bottle. Bottle–nosed dolphins were hunted in the 19th and 20th century for their skin, but now are a legally protected species but killings still occurring due to angry fishermen and fishing nets. If this creature were to of become extinct, I believe there would not of been that greater change because the Bottle– nosed dolphin has no immediate predators and feeds on a wide range of sea life. Bottle–nosed dolphins rarely fight with each other because there is no power to be gained by it. They communicate by means of whistles and rasping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 33. Great White Shark Research Paper Have you ever had a dream where you are alone, drifting in the middle of the ocean, and you see a fin piercing through the waves? What you were seeing was the Carcharodon carcharias or the Great White Shark. It is a member of the Pisces class and mainly lives in tropical and subtropical areas.. The Great White Shark is unlike many sharks because it jumps out of the water. The Great White Shark truly is a great shark. Living in the wild is no easy task, and that is why Great White Sharks have many special ''features'' to help them survive and hunt, those functions have been developed over million years. Although they haven't been perfected they still help the shark. One of those ''features'' is the shark's dorsal fin. The dorsal fin is a dynamic stabilizer when the shark is swimming fast after it's prey. The next ''feature'' is the tail. The tail is used to propel the shark forward and assist in turning while swimming at high speeds. The final ''feature'' are the jaws. The can exert about 1.8 tons of force on their ... Living things that interact with the organisms are called biotic factors. One biotic factor is the amount of prey the shark can find. If the shark can't find any fish or they escape from the shark he might be affected in negative ways. Another biotic factor is if there are any human hunters in the area. If there are some human hunters in the area the shark has to be careful so he doesn't get caught. And the final biotic factor I will tell you about are symbiotic relationships. The shark doesn't eat all fish, and one of the types of fish the shark doesn't eat is the remora fish. The smaller ones cling to the shark and eat the scraps of food the shark drops but it also feeds of the parasites on the sharks skin and in the shark's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 34. Persuasive Essay Suddenly the unforgettable "Jaws" music plays in my mind, like a broken record on repeat. Cue the monstrous "Jaws" that broke the box office in the summer of 1975. With the mock–up of a twenty five foot shark, this brilliant movie caused watchers everywhere to considerably rethink their summer destination spot. Every summer, I at least watch this horror film with my family during the quaint summer party that we have at the beginning of each summer break, but you could probably catch me watching it the night before vacation. In the summer of 2016, my family and I had decided that the perfect, relaxing vacation would be in Topsail Island, North Carolina where we could sit by the waves or swim in the canals. I had always been a little scared of sharks and their pointy teeth, but the thought of seeing one in open water causes chills across my skin because sharks are known for prowling and harming anything in their vicinity. After school was out, I was counting down the days until we left for vacation. When that day had finally arrived, we packed our things and headed on the road. Sharks were already on my mind of course, with me being the overthinker of the family, but they definitely wouldn't stop me from enjoying a warm, sunny day by the water. It seemed like forever before we reached our cute, beach cottage at the canals down in South Topsail. Since my whole family had anticipated this relaxing break from the "real world", we quickly unpacked our things into the cottage and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 35. Steven Spielberg 's Jaws And Jurassic Park Steven Spielberg is a director who has made many movies including Jaws (1975) and Jurassic Park (1993). Both Jaws and Jurassic Park show animals behaving in the way that nature intended them to behave. However, in Jaws the animal finds himself trapped in an unnatural environment, an inlet where humans swim. In Jurassic Park, animals that became extinct millions of years ago, dinosaurs, also find themselves in unnatural environment occupied by humans. I want to compare these two movies because I enjoy action movies and thrillers. Also they were both made before I was born and I have only seen them now for the first time. Both movies hold the audience attention from the very beginning and you feel yourself going through the emotions that the actors display. Steven Spielberg uses nature in both films as his theme to develop his story. In Jaws there is a great white shark that terrorizes a small island town and in Jurassic Park there are manufactured dinosaurs that are developed out of altered DNA that terrorize an island that was to be a theme park. In Jaws there is a large white shark who seems to be unstoppable. The movie begins with an unsuspecting girl swimming when the shark comes up on her and kills her. From the moment the movie begins the viewer knows who the villain is. The cast consists of Roy Schneider as Chief Brody who struggles throughout the movie to do the right thing to save lives while the politicians constantly interfere with his concern to prevent ... • 36. The Causes And Impacts Of The Great White Shark Widely feared by all is the shark and leading the charge is the Great White Shark. The Great White is a species of large mackerel shark, which can be found in almost all coastal and offshore waters which have water temperatures between 12 and 24°C with greater concentrations in the United States, Oceania, Chile, South Africa and the Mediterranean. The Great White is a keystone species, which regulates abundance, distribution, and diversity of marine life. Additionally, they provide essential food for scavengers and help in natural selection to remove the weak from populations. (Sharks as keystone species, 2016) Sharks ancestry dates back more than 400 million years, and they are even older than dinosaurs. These animals are uniquely adapted to their environment with six highly refined senses of touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing and electromagnetism. They are the top predators in the ocean, with the only real threat to their survival being humans. Each year, thousands of sharks are being killed by human activity including illegal poaching, illegal hunting, culling, and shark nets place along coastlines. (Sharks as keystone species, 2016) Although relatively rare, shark bite incidents draw an immense level of interest from both the public and the media, as they often result in serious consequence for those involved. Globally the number of negative shark bite incidents has increased over the years, but this has been largely attributed to population increase and more people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Station Fire Synopsis In West Warwick Rhode Island, on February 20th, 2003, during the performance of the band Great White, a fire broke out that eventually claimed the lives of 100 people and injured an additional 200. The band's tour manager arranged for, and ignited pyrotechnic props, large fireworks designed to display a shower of sparks. The sparks ignited foam soundproofing near stage. The fire spread quickly. Most were killed either in the crush to exit the building or overcome by fumes while trying to find an exit. The immediate cause was well documented due to witness reports and a videotape that was taken during the concert. In the period that followed the tragedy there were many attempts to fix blame. Following a Grand Jury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several handheld extinguishers are located at various points in the club. There was no fire suppression system. Sprinklers had never been installed. There is some debate over whether the Station was required to have a sprinkler installed. The Station had recently received an inspection by West Warwick Fire Marshal Dennis Laroque. The owners were cited for several violations including expired fire extinguishers and some that needed to be hung along with gasoline stored inside the building. In his statements to police, Laroque says that the critical violation that he was concerned about was the exit door near the stage. It had a second inner door that did not have panic hardware attached and opened into the showroom. They had been previously cited and had removed the door to pass follow–up inspections only to replace it shortly after. The occupancy capacity for the Station is also up for debate. There are notations in West Warwick permitting documents as low as 253 and as high as 404. The NIST estimates that 2003 model codes would place occupancy at about 430 people with no tables and chairs. Estimates of the crowd on the night of the fire range from 440 to 458. Attorney General, Patrick Lynch's office puts the number at 458. Pyrotechnics and Foam The pyrotechnics that ignited the fire were designed to spray sparks 15 feet for 15 seconds. • 38. A Sociological Look at JAWS Essay A Sociological Look at JAWS The movie I choose to review was Jaws, which is one of my favorites and a timeless classic. A traditional story about man against beast takes place on an island that depends on its summer tourist business. When the summer season in threatened by a series of shark attacks three men are sent out to track down a great white shark. The three main (human) characters are Brody (Roy Scheider), the police chief, who came to the island from New York looking, so he thought, for a change from the fears of the city. There's Quint (Robert Shaw), a caricature of the crusty old seafaring salt, who has a very personal reason for hating sharks. And there's Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), the rich kid turned ... While everyone is giving out pats on the back Hooper is the one that finds out that the wrong shark has been caught. He states that while this species has attacked humans and is foreign to these waters the bite radius doesn't match up to the first victim. Being an outsider no one is inclined to listen to Hooper. To proven his point Hooper and Brody sneak down to the docks to cut open the shark. Among many strange findings none are human remains. This piques Hooper's curiosity and he drags Brody (who is afraid of boats and water) out on his boat to see what they can find in the waters surrounding the island. They come across a boat wreck and upon closer inspection they discover that the wreck is the work of the sought after shark. With the evidence they've uncovered Hooper and Brody go to the Mayor and demand he shut down the beaches. With no physical evidence that the wrong shark has been caught the Mayor decides to open the beaches for the 4th of July. The 4th of July is a bright and sunny day but no one is going in the water. The Mayor, fearing the worst, coaxes on of his friends to make the first move and go for a swim. In no time everyone is in the water enjoying their 4th of July. • 39. Why Should We Protect Sharks Should We Protect Sharks? "Sharks are among the most perfectly constructed creatures in nature. Some forms have survived for two hundred million years." (Eugenie Clark) This may be a beautiful quote, but it is often the opposite of what comes to mind when people think of sharks. Shark's safety has never been a big concern; but should it be? Many articles are now saying that we should be doing more to protect these aquatic creatures. They balance ecosystems, and barely bite – but we harvest them like meat! One of the many reasons we should protect sharks is the fact that they are very important to the oceans ecosystem. Many people enjoy sea food like salmon, cod, etc. With no sharks, many other species would be off the map. Peter Benchley describes them as, "... above all, integral members of the ocean food chain." Sharon Guynup's article What Do You Know About Sharks says something similar. "Without sharks, the ocean's delicate ecosystem would be disrupted." Species that sharks normally eat such as seals would start overpopulating and would soon wipe out the animals they normally eat, like small fish. Because sharks are such dangerous predators to ... Not only is it bad that we are killing them, but what you probably don't know is that shark populations take a while to rebound. Most sharks take at least 9–10 years to reach the reproductive age and produce very small litters of pups.
