Art Persuasive Essay
Currently, schools teach different curriculums throughout America. Each state decides the basic lessons, but the teachers are able to choose how they
teach each concept As a result, some teachers strictly follow conventional methods, while others transcend from traditional teaching by using atypical
learning strategies. One way of progressing from ordinary strategies is by using musicals, music, and other art forms to teach lessons. After many
schools in America cut the arts programs, students lacked the knowledge that art and music exposed to them. Using the method of the arts to teach not
only allows for students to experience what some schools cut from funding, but also allows for new types of learning. Students can use the core classes
to express their imagination and talent. Although some people may not believe that using the arts to teach is effective, there is proof that it will benefit
the students and maybe even the teachers. Teachers and professors should use musicals and all other art types to teach because of their many
advantages; they inspire creativity, allow for a deeper understanding, and offer multiple ways to learn. When utilizing art in the classroom, students can
express their creativity. In classrooms with conventional lessons, children fill out notes and worksheets, which creates little room for individual
expression. Most worksheets make the students write down one specific answer to obtain full credit. Contradictory to the conventional homework

Protest Rhetoric
Introduction:
The rhetorical functions of protest videos are important to study because they enable us to understand and learn from opposing ideologies that are
expressed. Music has a lot of power than we realize, it can express every feeling, mood, or desire. It has many genres and holds a broad and diverse
listening audience. It also has the power to rally different people's backgrounds, cultures, and values to come together and listen to a cause. Music
holds a persuasive element; with a catchy beat and strong lyrics, one can create a movement. Protest music holds all these traits mentioned and the
trend is not new, it has started as early as the late 18th century (Library of Congress). However, the genre of pop/hip–hop uses the ... Show more content

The video, which was released in 1996, had many circumstances and events occurring during this time. Since Jackson became a superstar, the USA has
changed three presidents, and Michael met each of them – Reagan, who was the first to invite him to the White House, Bush–senior and Bill Clinton at
whose inauguration Jackson performed and whom he apparently liked the most. But all this had nothing to do with politics (Johnson, B.(n.d.).
Moreover, as previously mentioned, this time period was facing, the police attacking African Americans, the military crackdown on the protest in the
Tiananmen Square, the Ku Klux Klan, war crimes, genocide, execution, martial law, and were just some the issues occurring. On the other hand, with
that aside, Jackson too had issues of his own. Jackson was accused of sexually abusing a 13–year–old boy and was in and out of court for this case.
Jackson settled the case out of court for $22 million with no wrongdoing and no liability (Nolasco, S. 1994). This time period had a lot of going on
and Jackson used one song to address it

Relationship Between Math And Music
blue = goodPink =doesn't make sense/ Incomplete SentencesRed = make it longerGreen = missingPurple = unsure about it
Have you ever wondered why music doesn't get in the way when you do math homework? It's because the harmonics in math and music go in a
geometric pattern and so on, let me simple it down for you in this paper. In paper will discuss about the relationships between math and music, the
reasons music is better when doing math, what type of music uses math, and what types of math has the most connection to music.
What kinds of relationships does math have to music? The relations between math and music are like altruism between animals. "The connection
between mathematics and music is often touted in awed, mysterious tones, but it is grounded in hard–headed science. For example, mathematical
principles underlie the organization of Western music into 12–note scales. And even a beginning piano student encounters geometry in the "circle of
fifths" when learning the fundamentals of music theory." In music there are different types of simple math where you have to add different
combinations of notes to equal a 4/4 or else the beat of the music won't be right. Even complex math is in music like, Geometry, Fibonacci, and
Pythagoras where they further deepen the music. There are even jobs a person needs to learn math and music relationships like an Acoustic Engineer,
a musician, or a DJ. "Chris can then build his set for the night. He knows that to keep

Writing Using The Music Vocabulary
[Students are writing using the music vocabulary in the written summative unit assessment at the end of the unit on vocal health. First the students
created a list on the white board at the beginning of the unit of what good sitting and standing posture looks like. The students then wrote a peer
review on a peers review. Student work samples A, B, and C include examples of this peer review that student performed during lesson one. The
students then had to apply the vocabulary to write a plan for correction for the student. Then in lesson two the students used the vocabulary to describe
their own posture. This assessment of vocabulary was not as effective as in lesson one. Student work samples A, B, and C include a copy of this
self–assessment and the students' evaluations. Then once again students demonstrated that they understood the posture vocabulary by writing a
narrative on the final summative assessment for vocal. The students wrote how they would explain proper singing posture to a new student. Refer to
student work samples to see student improvement in this area between the pre and post–test. The students discussed the vocal anatomy involved in
vocal production at the end of lesson two. They then demonstrated their basic recall knowledge (Webb's depth of knowledge) on their homework
assessment for lesson two. In this assessment the students had to draw and label the section of the body used in resonation, phonation, respiration,

Music As A Psychological Force
Music as a Psychological Force
"Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends." French writer Alphonse de Lamartine immaculately summarized society's
preconceptions and widely accepted notions about music. Music is often incorporated in daily life, fluctuating from being used as a tool to combat
silence and boredom, to acting as a method of expression for emotions, and events. However, the power of music is monumental, and the idea that it is
so greatly entwined with numerous aspects of life serves to make music a volatile authority, acting as either a weapon, or a cure. Because music has
such influence upon perception, emotion, and the brain itself, it can be used as therapy, or used to completely dismember the ... Show more content on

Additionally, music creates movement by triggering motor areas in the brain, thereby solidifying music's presence in the brain. (Vinther) Music
provides sensations similar to that of drugs, or sex, as the same sections of the brain are stimulated. (Fick, Shilts) The sensations created are due to the
influx of dopamine, along with the plasticity of the neurons itself. Composers have latched on to this knowledge, creating songs that specifically
delay the musical pattern established in the very beginning, which in turn causes the dopamine neurons to remain "in suspense". The very end result
is a greater, more powerful emotional response. (Lehrer) Conclusions can be derived that music provides a sense of euphoria, thereby explaining why
society views it in such a positive manner. It also leads into exactly why using music as therapy is an obvious solution, yet contributes justification for
how devious and deleterious weaponizing music is. Because music generates a sense of exhilaration, using it to heal someone aligns flawlessly with
society's notions of music; in contrast, for the same reason, manipulating music to destroy one's sanity goes against the very idea society holds dear.
Music as therapy is an idea that makes complete sense in correspondence with society's perception as music as an enjoyable activity. In regards to
therapeutic treatment, music can be used in a capacious manner, with treatments

How Did Technology Shape American Culture
Technology and music have always been interlinked. As technology improves ways of recording and distributing music improves. Over history we
have gone from scratchy records to clear and portable MP3s. New and innovative technology have helped to shape America's culture as a nation.
In 1877 the first human voice was recorded by Thomas Edison using tinfoil. He was attempting to improve the telegraph when he realized that when
he moved tape through the machine it made a noise that sounded similar to speech. He then placed a stylus on to a cylinder made of tinfoil and spoke
the words of Mary had a little lamb into the makeshift machine.
Edison is widely considered to be the first person to record sound but a man in France actually beat him to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before music radio stations broadcasted things such as sermons, sports and the news. Department stores would also have their own stations and they
used them to advertise their merchandise.
In 1926 the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began the National Broadcasting Network (NBC). These were groups of stations that worked with
local stations to syndicate radio shows. These shows focused mostly on music and featured several different live performers. The types of music were
diverse and could vary from country to jazz.
The Golden Age of Radio was the time period of 1930– 1955. During this time was the great depression and radio was a way to listen to music and
receive the news for free. It was a cheap way to have entertainment instead of more expensive ways such as going to a live concert or the movies.
Eventually radio shows and broadcasts about news decreased in popularity. All that was left was music. Radio networks transitioned to playing
prerecorded music of popular artists. The most popular type of station was a station that plays Top 40. Top 40 is the top 40 songs on the music charts
in that particular time period. FM or radio was introduced soon after this and it instantly became popular because it offered music in a high

The Manitous: The Ojibway
While researching for Native American music and dance, I initially approached this essay with the idea that native americans used music and dance
like we have done today. When researching I have discovered that dance is used as a form of entertainment and storytelling. But after reading multiple
authors and sources on Native tribes music and dance, they are multiple tribes that not only use music and dance as a form of entertainment, but use it
as mean to tell the history of their tribe and to pass on their teachings to others.
When I was looking into sources about this subject, I have read a lot from websites that contain information of how they performed their music and
dance, through various instruments from the drums, whistles and flutes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the other boys, Pukawiss did not show an interest in running, swimming, or hunting. He was however, fascinated with animals and because of
this his fascination drove other people of his tribe away. But that was not stopping Pukawiss, so he "learned much about the animals like the eagles,
bears, and snakes, learning their movements and that taking their life a way would have been wrong"(Johnston p. 27–35). As Johnston stated, "The
animals had much to teach the humans about values and relationship like loyalty, kindness and friendship. Pukawiss taught his village about the
animals by spinning like an eagle in flight or hopping through grass like rabbits or bouncing like a baby deer." Because of this he became a dancer
for his tribe. Because of this, many villages wanted him to teach them about the ways of the animals. Because of this, he had to give up his home and
became a traveling teacher. Because of this "Pukawiss and his brother Cheeby–aub–oozoo added drums and flute later to the dance."(Johnston, p.31) He
also added the stories of humankind to his performances. It is from this, as Johnston wrote, that he invented the hoop dance to help him with this goal.
The dancer had become a counsellor with "the hoops representing a circle that returns each problem back to the responsibility of its creator"(Johnston).

The Origins Of Jazz Music
The artists that took a part of a fascination for syncopation and for improvisation were possibly brass group (cornet or trumpet for the melody, clarinet
for counterpoint, trombone or tuba or percussion for tempo), that rather frequently were marching bands, or single pianists, who quite commonly were
jazz pianists. Contrary to blues music, that was particularly done by afro–americans, jazz music was as inter–racial as the fusion of New Orleans.
Blacks were not the just one that performed jazz. Jazz bands were established by Italians, Creoles and entire type of European settlers. The "African"
origins of the music might or might not have been evident to the professionals, but precisely it did not prevent them from using it. Meanwhile, New

African Music Research Paper
People have always wondered what exactly African music is. African music is labeled as "African music" but it has never been defined. African
music is a form of music that came from indigenous people of Africa. Indigenous people are those who settled in a region from the beginning of time.
These people have cultural and historical background tied to Africa. Most importantly they are the original people of Africa. Most indigenous people
originated from South Africa. The kind of music that Africans created was their own musical style that has been transformed into many other genre.
When people listen to blues, rap, ragtime, jazz, and so many other genres, they are listening to a music form based off African music and African
Americans. Early African music has paved a way for American music styles.
It is no secret that African Americans have influenced American music in a major way. African Americans are important in the development of every
genre of American music. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People do not know that most African music was created because of the obstacles they faced and the music gave them an outlet. African music first had
a polyrhythmic structure which was complicated combinations of simple rhythms played at once. There were other music cultures like Western music
whose rhythm and combinations differed from African music. Western music did not add a third rhythm in their music, the only combination used was
"the triplet played against two 'full value' notes at the same time.'" On the other hand African music used as many as a dozen rhythms and beats at once.
Western music began using multiple rhythms but would rarely attempt to use more than two rhythms, let alone using a dozen simultaneously.
However, American music began using which is using several tones at once. The idea of playing rhythms, notes, and tones at the same time was

Positive And Negative Effects Of Music
Positive and Negative Effects of Music:
Soulful Noise, Destructive Harmony Music is a form of art, entertainment and pleasure. There are both positive and negative factors when it comes to
music.
"A change to a new type of music is something to beware of as a hazard to all of our fortunes. For the modes of music are never disturbed without
upsetting of the most political and social conventions." (Pluto) I decided to write my essay about this subject backwards. This is because there are
less harmful effects of music then there are positive. Also, when people ask the question "Good or shocking news first?" Most people choose to exploit
the unwelcomed news first. When it comes to the disturbing factors of music, most automatically assume that all the problems rely on the physical
effects such as listening to music harshly. Which is true, music can damage your ability to hear. (Coleman) Children ages from thirteen to seventeen
have a higher risk of hearing loss than most fifty–year old's. This is because this age range is the group of pesky teenagers. Teenagers believe that
music is a way to escape responsibility and they also believe that its cool to have someone hear your music from a mile away. Personally, I
understand the concern. When I'm alone in my car, I love to blast my music and pretend that my car is my stage. I never really knew it was bad for
my ears because it wasn't like a headphone. It turns out that the increased levels of bass and treble can alter

Using An Artist's Music In Advertising
Some artist's choose to license out their music to businesses to be used in advertisements and other artists choose to just keep to their music. I oppose
using artist's music in advertisements for a variety of reasons.
One of the main reasons why I oppose using artist's music in advertisements is because there are many ways that licensing out your music to businesses
can backfire. According to The Changing Landscape of the Music Business by Jacob Carter, "Alex Sally, instrumentalist for the indie–pop duo Beach
House, notes that when bands take on corporate sponsors they may lose the image they have worked to create," (paragraph 4).Moreover, a band or
solo artists entire concept of their music can be altered. Another reason why I oppose using artist's music in advertisements is because it puts a great
deal of stress on the artist who signed a corporate partnership. According to Selling Out Not Worth the Risk by Darrius Johnson, "As soon as a
musician signs on the dotted line of a corporate partnership, he or she has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of reasons people support using the artist's music in advertisements is that they think it helps promote new artists music. By using songs for
advertisements from relatively unknown musicians can help promote the artists music, making him or her more widely known. According to The
New Necessity in the Music Business by Stacia Coates, "Some bands have thoroughly embraced branding and see it more as an opportunity rather
than a necessity," (paragraph 14). A widely known and successful group called the Black Eyed Peas used branding and licensing their music to
advertisements was one of their main sources of income. Furthermore, Stacia Coates also states, "For years, they've allowed corporations to use their
music in advertisements for cars, electronics, and jeans, among many other goods," ( paragraph 14). This means that branding was a very successful
source of income for

Music And Infant/Bedroom Music Analysis
What Might and Infant/Toddler Music Class Look Like:
"Musical experiences like these are a common occurrence in a young child's life" (Mayesky, 2012, p. 397). Music and movements for children, is the
first languages of childhood.
A 10 –15–minute informal chat outlining how music supports and nurtures children's developmental skills would start off like this, "Music is central to
the human experience of children, just as it is to adults, and for this reason, music should be an important part of the early childhood curriculum"
(Mayesky, 2012, p. 397). Music creates an avenue for children to use their creative expression. Music supports and nurtures children's developmental

Repetition helps to reinforce and enable children to repeat words and phrases in an enjoyable way so they get to learn the versus in each song.
Repetition helps children learn songs by heart and therefore so many nursery rhymes and children's songs have very simple words which are
frequently repeated. It can also be a good idea to let children make up their own verses once they learn the structure and tune of the songs. I would
suggest to the parents that when they sing with their children, they share ideas, activities, and tell stories about each song so children have the freedom
to express themselves while they sing the versus. "Appropriate musical experiences for young children must take into account the child's
developmental level and need for self–expression" (Mayesky, 2012, p. 411). Some ways to support music development in non–mobile babies is to
quietly sing or hum to them. Infants can have music experiences daily when they are given caring and physical contact from adults. When you sing to
infants during feeding and changing time, you are providing them with music experiences in more of a basic way.

I Run Away : A Short Story : Running Away
I ran away when I was ten years old. It was a small argument with my parents that provoked it. The situation was contentious and furor. I wanted to
have a sleepover with five girls from school, they said that we couldn't fit five other girls in our apartment. I lashed out at them, throwing a full–fledged
tantrum, and then I left. Marched out of the door, ignoring their calls for me to come back. My plan was to spend the night at my grandparents
house and go back in the morning. It was a short walk, only four blocks to my grandparents, but I didn't make it. On the second block the light was
about to turn red. I convinced myself I could make it and ran out into the middle of the street, only to get struck by a car. Funny, I don't even remember
dying. I don't remember what it felt like, or if I saw God waiting for me. As soon as the car hit me, my eyes closed, only to be snapped open a few
seconds later. But I was no longer in the street, I was in my favorite park. I looked down to see my wrinkled t–shirt and jeans had been replaced with a
long, flowy white dress. I felt odd, almost hollow. I broke out into a sprint, and ran in the direction of my house, but when I reached the front gate
of the park, I was thrown backwards by an invisible force. I hit the ground hard, and let out a painful groan. I slowly got up, ignoring the pain in my
side. I started to run out of the park when I was thrown backwards again. I couldn't leave. Why couldn't I leave? Out of the corner of my eye I

Call And Response ( Whole Class )
BEAT, RHYTHM & PITCH
Activity:
Call & response (Whole class)
Instrumental composition (small group of 3)
Obi sana sa nana (Whole class)
Play with instrument – Ukulele
Today:
The lesson was focused on learning the beat and rhythm. "Beat is the basic unit of time, the pulse, of the mensural level" (World ebook library, 2016).
The beat is constant and repetitive, for example, the heartbeat or a clock movement noise. On the other hand, rhythm consists of the pattern that is a
mixture of sound and silence.
Our Art professor highlights the focus of this course with three main Performing Arts:Music, Drama, and Dance. Every Arts teacher requires
pedagogical approach in order to make learning art effective. Fiona introduces to us 2 ways as strategies to draw a better picture for students to
understand Beat and Rhythm better, which are: Body Percussion and Instrumental composition. In music, Body Percussion [Figure 1] refers to using
oneself body as an instrument. One's can hit on their chest and make a 'boom' sound, or tap on their legs, or flick their fingers to make a 'snap' etc... A
teacher could introduce their students to a 4/4 beat by using Body Percussion strategy and play a make–up pattern, such as Boom, snap, tap, stop,
boom, boom, snap tap.
Another strategy that can become handy is Instrumental composition. Fiona asked everyone to choose one untuned percussion and create any sound
within a 4/4 beat. Everyone was giving a chance to be creative and we

Use Of Music And Its Effects On Patients With Dementia
Step 1: Read the Article:
1.Read the Abstract. This is a brief summary of the research questions that are targeted and the methods that are used to answer those questions.
First thoughts: By reading the abstract one can gain the knowledge that due to the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987, LTC facilities are
required to provide the highest well–being for its residents. It states that the therapeutic use of music could be a method to decrease the disruptive
vocalizations associated with patients with dementia. 2.Read the Introduction. This is the beginning of the article, which contains information about
the author's interest in the research, why they chose the topic, and their hypothesis.
First thoughts: The introduction of this article lists two treatment approaches that exist to treat repetitive disruptive vocalizations (RDV). They are the
use of medications and environment modifications. Due to the adverse side effects of medications, OBRA required the reevaluation of behavior
control in DAT patients living in LTC facilities. The authors write that altering the environment to be more sensory appealing instead of using
medications is a possible treatment option. This study was conducted to determine what effect the presence of music had on the frequency of RDV in
three LTC residents.
3.Read the Discussion Section. This information will explain the main findings in great detail and discuss any methodological problems and flaws that
the researchers discovered.

The Effects Of Music Therapy On Reducing Pain
Effects of Music Therapy on Reducing Pain in the Terminally Ill
Pain, increased weakness, decreased intake of food and fluid, altered breathing patterns are some physical symptoms often experienced by the
terminally ill (Kouch, 2006 as cited in Leow, Drury & Poon, 2010). Treating pain in the terminally ill is very important and challenging for nurses.
Therefore, it is important to use both pharmacologic and nonpharmacological methods to reduce pain. The ability of nurses to use music therapy as a
nonpharmacological method to manage pain in the terminally ill is a phenomenon of great importance to nursing. Terminally ill in this literature refers
to patients with cancer that have six months or less to live and patients that are hospice or are undergoing palliative care. This literature revealed that
using a multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA), significantly less posttest pain was reported in the music versus the control group. Cancer
patients that listened to soft music in addition to using analgesics experienced increased compared to those using analgesics alone (Huang, Good, &
Zauszniewski, 2010). Furthermore, statistical difference was noticed between the groups for mood level and oxygen saturation during live saxophone
performance (Burrai, Micheluzzi, & Bugani, 2014). In addition, this research indicated that music may have a more positive effect on females and
elderly than younger and more educated males (Chan, Chung, Chung, & Lee, 2008). The

Technology And Garage Band: The Evolution Of Music
Technology and music have a strong correlation and as technology has improved, so has music. Technology has allowed music to be expressed in so
many unique ways and has also inspired people, like myself, to learn more about the evolution of music throughout the years. Therefore, for my final
music project, I chose to do the creative option and decided to compose my own music through a music software called, Garage Band. It is a
technological support that allows people to play around with pre–made loops, recordings and a variety of sounds from different musical instruments

In this chapter, Katz talked about the origins of digital sampling. I found it interesting to find out how with digital sampling, sounds can be altered
by layering, adding, cutting and looping. There was one main example about digital sampling in this chapter that intrigued me. It was a case study
named, 'The Uncommon Parlance of Paul Lansky'. Lansky created a music piece named 'Notjustmoreidlechatter' where he took small fragments of
his wife's voice when she was reading a novel and then digitally transformed her voice by mixing up her chattering noises, to the point where no
word was long enough to be understood. After reading and hearing his digitally sampled piece, I started thinking about the unique ways in which
music could be expressed and how it could bring out a creative side in a person, which could then further engage the audience. The second reading
that enthralled me was from a book called 'Power Tools for Garage Band'. After reading through the book, I realized how much fun creating a music
piece on Garage Band could be and so, I further read about how this music software worked and learned about the basic techniques that went along with

Music and Memory: The Impression of the Soul
Franz Liszt once said "Music embodies feeling without forcing it to contend and combine with thought, as it is forced in most arts and especially in
the art of words. If music has one advantage over the other media through which a person can represent the impressions of the soul, it owes this to its
supreme capacity to make each inner impulse audible without the assistance of reason. Reason, after all, is restricted in the diversity of its means and is
capable only of confirming or describing our affections, not of communicating them directly in their full intensity. To accomplish this even
approximately, reason must search for images and comparisons. Music, on the other hand, presents at once the intensity and the expression of
feeling. It is the embodied and intelligible essence of feeling, capable of being apprehended by our senses. It permeates them like a dart, like a ray,
like a mist, like a spirit, and fills our soul." Music has been passed down from generation to generation to show an audience beauty and associate with
their emotions. My violin teacher Brunilda Myftaraj once stated that I could play violin all day without ending and I would feel empty, she advised that
unless I connect with my audience than the music I'm playing has no exquisiteness and means nothing to no–one. My teacher said a respectable
performance is one in which the audience is drawn into the beauty of the playing and adores the music so much that they effortlessly remember the

The Audio Of The Movie Beauty And The Beast
I listen to the audio of the movie "Beauty and The Beast." Having the topic being about sound, this type of movie would be an example, for there are
more technical obligations to take care of than those of realistic movies. The movie is about a prince who was curse and turns into a beast, in which a
woman has to fall in love with him in order for the curse to be lifted. Throughout this movie, there were many sounds effects including fairy dust sound
that represent magic. Additional sound effects include swooshes and roars represent the sound of the beast. Other sound effects would be the thunder
and rain, in which represent the darkness. In the beginning scene, the movie introduces Belle, and the village she lived in that's filled with the sound
effect of rooster crowing and birds flapping their wings, in which represents peacefulness accompany by happy singing. From watching Foley video, it
shows how the Foley artist used a bundle of plants rubbing against each other to create thunder sound. Another example from the movie includes using
a pair of boots to make the sound horses jogging.
Since this is the cartoon version of the movie, it definitely will sound cartoony. For each character in the movie, there are uses of high and low pitch,
to which it doesn't sound realistic. This is through the used of ADR, which is also called Additional Dialogue Recording. This is a process in which

Charles Siebert 's An Elephant Crackup?
Over the past few decades, relations between animals and humans have been modified drastically. From domesticated species' to wildlife, it seems as
though human interaction has taken a dramatic toll on the way animals' function in the 21st century. Particularly, an account that focuses on this
dramatic toll is that of Charles Siebert's, an essayist whose observations bring a fascinating perspective to the correlation between wildlife habitat
disruption and uninhibited human nature. Siebert's essay for The New York Times Magazine, entitled, "An Elephant Crackup?" has raised many
eyebrows over the past few years with regard to the destruction of a species that might suffer from something more than meets the eye. The author of
this essay is aware of his audience, so respectively, the tone of his essay diverges into a new plane, a plane that is dreary and drab, yet in the same way,
remains thought provoking and systematically contingent. Siebert doesn't waste a second pushing his account across the table. New information is
provided within each paragraph, which proves his use of systematic contingency. Charles Siebert, who is also responsible for writing "Wickerby: An

STUDENTS 2 Abstract Learning disabilities can diversely and seriously affect a student's ability in music, even though it is not an "academic" class.
Purposeful adaption of the environment, academic content, and presentation of that content can greatly increase effectiveness of music education with
students with learning disabilities. Music can have additional applications for students with learning disabilities throughout school. Researchers have
found success in using lyrics to teach decoding, and have seen gains in writing with background music. Still, the breadth of learning disabilities means
best practices are always changing; parents and educators should remain well–trained and up to date on the most current research available. Keywords:

Bad Ideas Of Using Artists Music In Advertising
Have you ever heard your favorite song in an advertisement on television? Well use of artists' songs in advertisements is a bad idea. It can put an
image with their song or band they didn't want, or it could be played so much on the television everyone would be tired of hearing it. There are even
more reasons why using artists' music in advertising could be bad. Using artists' music in advertising is not a fantastic idea. Moreover, using artists'
music in an advertisement could put an image with it. Such as if one of your favorite songs were used in a Pepsi commercial you might think of

Using Music Therapy in the Treatment of Stress and Anxiety...
One of the largest mental health issues that people face is stress and the anxiety that it can cause. It can also be the trigger for many of the physical
health ailments that are experienced on a daily basis. Typically a normal response to situations that may be harmful, anxiety helps alert people of
danger. But it is when that emotional response is elevated beyond a normal level that prolonged disruption of daily life occurs. As stated in the Journal
of Music Therapy, "anxiety is generally regarded a negative emotional response to situations that are appraised to be threatening" (Elliot, Polman and
McGregor 2011, p. 264) (as cited in Spielberger, 1989, p. 3–17). At the cognitive level, anxiety can produce feelings of apprehension, ... Show more

One technique that would fulfill the recommended criteria is music listening. Music therapy is a practice that can help therapists with their patients. In
order to optimally meet their clients' needs, music therapists seek ongoing clinical and educational training to add depth and breadth to their clinical
skills (Ghetti, 2011). The Canadian Journal of Music Therapy pointed out that "the body of scientific research builds to support the effect of the mind
on the body, the use of music therapy as complementary medicine is becoming more widespread" (Mohammadi,Shahabi ,and Panah , 2011, p. 59) (as
cited in Hanser,2002). Using music as a treatment to treat stress and anxiety, seems to be an excellent option for those seeking a medicine free therapy
to find relief and calmness. Recently, music therapy has been applied to children who have severe emotional disturbances, high degrees of impulsivity
and limited ability to self–regulate (Layman, Hussey, & Laing, 2002). These emotional disturbances can lead the affected child to feel higher levels of
stress and anxiety. Research has found that early trauma affects the developing nervous system, causing chronic states of over–arousal in traumatized
children. Music is an ideal way to assist these children to self–regulate and soothe as it creates a middle ground between over–arousal and numbness

Ludwig Van Beethoven : The Relationship Between Music And...
Introduction:
Humans, like any other organism have a relationship with the environment surrounding them. These connections are what make up life as we know it.
One relationship which is often overlooked as being not that significant, is the relationship between a person and music. It is overlooked because of its
common use, as we listen to, play and experience music often. However, it is such an important connection, because music has the ability to speak
past the ear to the soul. Any musician would agree that music is not just heard, it's felt. Even if one doesn't come from a musical background or know
any of the theory related thereto, they can still agree that music has the power to speak to us. So, if we all can agree on this fact, why then does the
phrase "deaf musician" present such a strange idea? A deaf musician is like any other musician, they just experience music using different senses.
Although deaf or hard of hearing individuals can't hear music very well through their ears, they can still experience it greatly and enjoy it. In this essay
I would like to address the most famous deaf musician, Beethoven, and how he experienced music; the technique of feeling vibrations; and the
importance of music even to a deaf individual.
Beethoven:
When thinking of deaf musicians, the most famous one that comes to mind is Beethoven. Ludwig Van Beethovenwas one of the greatest composers and
musicians known. He is greatly loved even today for his amazing musical

Comedy Of Comedy Analysis
'A Comedy of Errors' is a traditional play by William Shakespeare. In 2009, the Royal Shakespeare Company's 'As Told by An Idiot' performed to a
primary school a comedic, imaginative version of this play. It included many techniques which make it an example of a combined arts piece. It is
also made more comedic to appeal to the younger audiences. The performance included actors, a band and dancers. The actors of the show became
the band when they were not on stage. It also allows the audience to get involved during the performance. The troupe used little in the form of
backgrounds but made up for it in the ingenious and truly imaginative ways they used props and their own skills to bring the story to life.
One way it is a piece of combined arts is the use of the band. There are various uses of music within the piece. These ranged from full songs to
background music. The background music helped to set the tone for the scene and the company created an atmospheric score. There were also parts
where they helped to convey the drama techniques being used, for example the slowing of music to assist in the slow–motion parts. There was a scene
where the whole cast sang as part of the script. This worked to create a more comedic view on the play. Another thing about the music is that all of it
is live music. This shows off the actor/ musicians' talents in a way perhaps recorded music could not because it could be edited. It also allows for
more techniques to be used. This can be seen

After listening to "Clair de Lune" a few times, I find Claude Debussy's piano music to be claiming and relaxing. Debussy used various tones and Keys
to create a soft natural melody. At times in this piece he would change his tones and pitch using half–tones between notes given more intense melody.
He composed a rhythms of patterns of alternation that was appropriate with his impressionism approach.
I personally think that the musical tone of "Clair De Lune" mostly have a Dionysian effect. The soft tones and alternation in his rhythms express

Teaching a children's choir requires a careful selection of music and educating the kids about music notation. Kids need to have a basic understanding
of note values and pitches and how to interpret them into musical sounds. By teaching them how to read music first, future choir rehearsals will be
more productive. Many children's choir instructors will incorrectly assume that it takes too long to teach a child how to read music. The reality is that
by teaching these basics first it will allow the choir to sing much more effectively in the future.
Step 1: Begin by teaching the children how to read rhythm aurally. Teach them only the most basic rhythms: whole notes, half notes and quarter notes.

Step 3: Start teaching the children about pitch notation after the first week. Since they are children, all of them will sing in the treble clef. Have them
remember the spaces on the staff by using the following trick: "If you look between the lines, you see your FACE." Explain that the spaces spell the
word F – A– C – E.
Step 4: Teach the names of the lines of the treble clef by using an acronym. A good acronym to use is "Every Good Boy Does Fine." The first letter of

Step 5: Explain that the correct way to breathe is through the diaphragm and that the children should never force a note that is too high. If a child is
having trouble singing a part, give them a higher or lower part to sing.

Making Music with Different Online Programs: High School student tries to become a Record Producer
1.THE INTRODUCTION
I've listened to a lot of music in my 514,561,058 seconds of life.
Of course the beginning first few years of my life did not consistent of heavy articulation and rhythm interpretation, rather it was to see if I could sing
back the ABC's or mumble the Arthur theme song to my sister.
Most of the music influence I have was harvested back when I was eleven. I listened to a wide variety of genres of music from pop, to rock, to rap, to
country, to concert band music, even to Bollywood music as that's what would be playing in my home as my mom cooked food for all of us.
The audio quality of the music always interested me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I learned the correlation between blowing into an instrument and the sounds that come out.
This really changed my perception about music. I found myself enjoying the classical music that I would be playing on my clarinet, but I always
kept it in correlation with the new sounds and technology music was sounding like. The new electronic based sounds created on the computer with
the melodies and movement like a classical piece set that a part for me. I think this was generated by sounds from Kanye West and his albums such as
Graduation, and 808s & Heartbreaks, even the blending of genres from Coldplay between pop tunes and classical music using implications such as
organs, bells, and synthesizers in doing so.
So what I ended up learning and continue to learn is I that like music really no matter what condition it comes in. The examination of the work that
takes place behind it demonstrates more than what someone on the internet can tell me about how bad an album is or how weak the lyrics are. Of
course there's some analysis if a song is deemed as good or bad, but I always respect the work that is done in order to produce music.
2.WHY I'M DOING THIS?
I was given the opportunity to generate music on the computer. I wasn't necessary handed or forced into doing this, but when the opportunity came, I

Music In The Godfather
The most important function of music in film is to set a mood. Choices of musical style, instrumentation, and emotional quality are critical in creating
the director's vision. Even the absence of music in a scene or an entire movie can contribute to the overall tone of a film. (Forney and Machlis, 639)
Most Hollywood films use music to reflect the emotions of a given scene. For example, John Williams guides the viewer's emotions at the end of E.T.:
The Extra–Terrestrial from sorrow at the apparent death of E.T. through joy at his recovery, excitement at the chase scene, to sadness at his final
farewell. (Forney and Machlis, 639) Some composers establish a single mood for the entire film, no matter what happens on the screen. This can be seen

in a film. This is due to two very important types of music: underscoring and source music. It is because of music that viewers are able to associate a
leitmotif with their favourite character or anticipate when something bad is about to happen. Without music in films, people would not be able to feel
the intensity and joy that music brings to the screen, and would not be able to witness the true magic of what music can

Music : The Relationship Between Music And Music
The relationship between music and mood has been studied as far back as ancient Greece. Since then, scientists and researchers have been using music
in therapy in an attempt to change and explain emotions. While the beliefs behind the ability to change one's mood have changed over the millennia,
from the idea that the planets control human emotions to modern–day music therapy, it remains an accepted belief in psychological research that
listening to music has an impact on the mood and emotion of the listener. Up until the Enlightenment, music was viewed as something to be studied
using mathematics and science rather than enjoyed as an art form. Pythagoras, known best for his mathematical equations and studies of triangles,
believed that the planets vibrated in the same frequencies as note harmonies in music. He referred to this as the "harmony of the spheres," and used
this theory to support his claim that heavenly bodies in motion produced a series of musical tones. Another theory of the ancient Greeks was the
"ethos doctrine." This claimed that all melodies had a special ethos, or characteristic spirit, which influenced mood. Aristotle, perhaps one of the best
known Greek philosophers and scientists, believed that a person's "very soul" could be altered by music. He argued that in terms of rhythms, "some
fix the disposition, others occasion a change in it; some act more violently, others more liberally." A final theory of music and mood is called the

As I have discussed a little bit earlier that the instrumentation for this music scores, unlike traditional orchestra music, it mostly uses strings. Even
though there are no brasses and percussions (usually play the lower register and bass melody) in the film, I think Bernard Herrmann used the strings
in a way that they are the whole orchestra. He used the double basses and cellos to play out the bottom line of melody and the violins and violas to
play the upper melody. He is using the string ensemble but creates the sounding effect of a whole orchestra. As we discussed during class last week
that most composers back into that time prefer to use more neo–romantic style music; however, this music score definitely has nothing relate to
romantic style. It is dissonant as I said before, and creates lots of tensions but it does not resolve, and I feel like that is one big thing that makes it

Background/ Introduction
Music has been a major hobby of mine since 7 years old when I started learning the piano. Since then I have picked up the flute, the violin and the
guitar along the way. Before attending my current high school, which is Auckland International College, I attended Westlake Boy High School.
WBHS is a school where the students are classed based on their academic abilities. The classes are segmented into 3 main sections: A–class, B–class
and C–class. A–class students are those who have higher academic abilities. The academic abilities of the students are gauged by an overall exam at
the end of each year.
Many studies have been conducted throughout the years investigating whether playing a musical instrument affect a student's academic aptitude. From
my research online, I found that most of these studies yield results that show that students who play a musical instrument generally have higher
academic abilities. I decided that I want to investigate this claim within my own community in the suburb I live in and the exploration provided me
with the opportunity to do this. Westlake Boy High School was the optimum choice for me to conduct my investigation

How Do Horror Films Create Suspense
While not everybody has seen the iconic thriller Psycho, most people will recognize its now infamous, chilling theme. Though, how exactly does a
music piece like it or other horror film pieces, the Jaws theme for example, succeed in making its audience uneasy and thrilled? It's easy to tell when a
song is meant to be scary or creepy because of the way it is executed. Horror or creepy music is unlike other genres in the sense that its instrumentation,
tempo, and such things, when put together, produce an eerie tone and trigger a feeling of fear in its listeners. By using non–linearities, noises that alert
the human brain, and specific techniques in their music, horror films create suspense and fear in viewers. Nonlinearities, harsh and chaotic ... Show

Argumentative Essay On Music Education
One of my biggest passions in life has been advocating for music education. This takes after my father who does this for a living. Defending why
music education is important is oddly a very difficult task. The issue with this topic, is that there is no real argument saying that the arts are not
important. However, when it comes down to budget cuts and funding the arts always seem to get the boot first. There are plenty of ways to effectively
defend music education, yet so many people take the wrong pathway and preach what they think the general public wants to hear. People will express
how taking music classes helps with test scores and overall GPA, when in reality this is not why we should be defending why music is important.
My project serves to help other music advocates truly understand why this argument is ineffective. Do not get me wrong, the studies have proven
how music can positively affect the brain and that music students tend to do better on standardized testing. This is a phenomenal discovery that was
only proven to be true a few years ago. However, people are using this fact as their main argument and people who are not affiliated with the arts are
getting this perception that music is only important to help with test scores. Recently, music was defined as a core subject. When people believe that
music is only important because it helps with test scores that is the equivalent of saying that effective writing class is only useful to help with writing
scientific conclusions. We live in a test driven society where students are measured by a number on a test rather than what they have to offer outside
of the classroom. There are an abundance of examples when people have come up to defend music education by explaining how much it helps with
test scores. One of the most iconic articles was done by PBS (Public Broadcasting Station). PBS released an article with the benefits of music and the
first comment in the article was, "Research has found that learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably
use in other areas." (Insert Cite) At first glance someone would perceive this as a correct and effective argument. But in reality it is vague, confusing and

Essay about Fine Quality Baroque Music in the Era of...
Baroque music is the western music art style that was composed in the era of Renaissance, that is, between 1600 and 1750. Music at any given period
reflects tendencies, impulses and influences that are found in art of other kinds of the same period. Therefore the name baroque also applied to the
architecture, literature and art in the same period. Baroque has in the past and to some degree in the present had the implications of abnormality,
grotesqueness and absurdity. But in its applications to music in the Renaissance period the term baroque does not have connotations that are pejorative
because much of the music composed in this period is of high and fine quality (Swain, 7).
The instruments that are used for baroque music even now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The performer however should be guided by some factors that help them know what instrument to use where and what sound to get from what
instrument (Donington, 131).
One, the performer should be able to distinguish indications that are scanty for the instruments that the notations may be showing. In that all the
instruments that the performer is using fit in the kind of that they are playing. They should also look out for the effects of the musician that may need
working on for the actual performance (Donington, 131).
Two, as much as it is the responsibility of the performer to choose the instruments, looking up for alternative instruments that are listed is important.
That way, if there is an instrument that is missing, the performer should always be able to get an alternative. This also suitable when the there are many
instruments needed, the alternative instruments can be used interchangeably (Donington, 131).
Three, the notion that instruments that are suitable are acceptable may not always work. A performer should understand that every instrument is made
for a specific use and should be the only use it must be put to. That is, it would be impossible to use an instrument and try to make it sound in a
particular way. The distinctions were made in the baroque era as much as they do now (Donington, 131). Every instrument in baroque music should be
used to what it really is designed to, this is to make sure that the sound of

Essay The Relationship Between Music and The Brain
The relationship between music and the brain has always intrigued me; why dose listening to music help ease certain task, things we do everyday like

The music at 95 decibels triggered the brain to continue even though the heart rate was unaffected by the music. This means music is neurological, that
there is a relationship between music and the brain. Listening to music while excessively working out could be dangerous, someone wouldn't notice the
need to stop and injure him or herself. Another study which was to determine if continuous background music could enhance the effects of monetary
reinforcement showed that just music made the participants cycle for a few more minuets, and less then five more revolutions per minuet (Cohen).
Listening to music can improve ones ambitions to working out. There have also been studies to show motivational music effected people differently
based on their athletic skills, showing untrained participants did better compared to trained (Brownley 197). This shows music can also be a distraction
to professional athletes. Listening to up beat music during certain workouts can improve ones performance through the brain.
The idea that music can enlighten ones mood can be traced to a man named Robert Burton who wrote in "Melancholy's Anatomy" in 1632: "music is
the more grateful and effective remedy for sadness, fear and mood disorders". There was few research done tell 1899, the idea that music can be used

Art Persuasive Essay

  • 1. Art Persuasive Essay Currently, schools teach different curriculums throughout America. Each state decides the basic lessons, but the teachers are able to choose how they teach each concept As a result, some teachers strictly follow conventional methods, while others transcend from traditional teaching by using atypical learning strategies. One way of progressing from ordinary strategies is by using musicals, music, and other art forms to teach lessons. After many schools in America cut the arts programs, students lacked the knowledge that art and music exposed to them. Using the method of the arts to teach not only allows for students to experience what some schools cut from funding, but also allows for new types of learning. Students can use the core classes to express their imagination and talent. Although some people may not believe that using the arts to teach is effective, there is proof that it will benefit the students and maybe even the teachers. Teachers and professors should use musicals and all other art types to teach because of their many advantages; they inspire creativity, allow for a deeper understanding, and offer multiple ways to learn. When utilizing art in the classroom, students can express their creativity. In classrooms with conventional lessons, children fill out notes and worksheets, which creates little room for individual expression. Most worksheets make the students write down one specific answer to obtain full credit. Contradictory to the conventional homework ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Protest Rhetoric Introduction: The rhetorical functions of protest videos are important to study because they enable us to understand and learn from opposing ideologies that are expressed. Music has a lot of power than we realize, it can express every feeling, mood, or desire. It has many genres and holds a broad and diverse listening audience. It also has the power to rally different people's backgrounds, cultures, and values to come together and listen to a cause. Music holds a persuasive element; with a catchy beat and strong lyrics, one can create a movement. Protest music holds all these traits mentioned and the trend is not new, it has started as early as the late 18th century (Library of Congress). However, the genre of pop/hip–hop uses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The video, which was released in 1996, had many circumstances and events occurring during this time. Since Jackson became a superstar, the USA has changed three presidents, and Michael met each of them – Reagan, who was the first to invite him to the White House, Bush–senior and Bill Clinton at whose inauguration Jackson performed and whom he apparently liked the most. But all this had nothing to do with politics (Johnson, B.(n.d.). Moreover, as previously mentioned, this time period was facing, the police attacking African Americans, the military crackdown on the protest in the Tiananmen Square, the Ku Klux Klan, war crimes, genocide, execution, martial law, and were just some the issues occurring. On the other hand, with that aside, Jackson too had issues of his own. Jackson was accused of sexually abusing a 13–year–old boy and was in and out of court for this case. Jackson settled the case out of court for $22 million with no wrongdoing and no liability (Nolasco, S. 1994). This time period had a lot of going on and Jackson used one song to address it ... • 4. Relationship Between Math And Music blue = goodPink =doesn't make sense/ Incomplete SentencesRed = make it longerGreen = missingPurple = unsure about it Have you ever wondered why music doesn't get in the way when you do math homework? It's because the harmonics in math and music go in a geometric pattern and so on, let me simple it down for you in this paper. In paper will discuss about the relationships between math and music, the reasons music is better when doing math, what type of music uses math, and what types of math has the most connection to music. What kinds of relationships does math have to music? The relations between math and music are like altruism between animals. "The connection between mathematics and music is often touted in awed, mysterious tones, but it is grounded in hard–headed science. For example, mathematical principles underlie the organization of Western music into 12–note scales. And even a beginning piano student encounters geometry in the "circle of fifths" when learning the fundamentals of music theory." In music there are different types of simple math where you have to add different combinations of notes to equal a 4/4 or else the beat of the music won't be right. Even complex math is in music like, Geometry, Fibonacci, and Pythagoras where they further deepen the music. There are even jobs a person needs to learn math and music relationships like an Acoustic Engineer, a musician, or a DJ. "Chris can then build his set for the night. He knows that to keep ... • 5. Writing Using The Music Vocabulary [Students are writing using the music vocabulary in the written summative unit assessment at the end of the unit on vocal health. First the students created a list on the white board at the beginning of the unit of what good sitting and standing posture looks like. The students then wrote a peer review on a peers review. Student work samples A, B, and C include examples of this peer review that student performed during lesson one. The students then had to apply the vocabulary to write a plan for correction for the student. Then in lesson two the students used the vocabulary to describe their own posture. This assessment of vocabulary was not as effective as in lesson one. Student work samples A, B, and C include a copy of this self–assessment and the students' evaluations. Then once again students demonstrated that they understood the posture vocabulary by writing a narrative on the final summative assessment for vocal. The students wrote how they would explain proper singing posture to a new student. Refer to student work samples to see student improvement in this area between the pre and post–test. The students discussed the vocal anatomy involved in vocal production at the end of lesson two. They then demonstrated their basic recall knowledge (Webb's depth of knowledge) on their homework assessment for lesson two. In this assessment the students had to draw and label the section of the body used in resonation, phonation, respiration, stomach, diagram, lungs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Music As A Psychological Force Music as a Psychological Force "Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends." French writer Alphonse de Lamartine immaculately summarized society's preconceptions and widely accepted notions about music. Music is often incorporated in daily life, fluctuating from being used as a tool to combat silence and boredom, to acting as a method of expression for emotions, and events. However, the power of music is monumental, and the idea that it is so greatly entwined with numerous aspects of life serves to make music a volatile authority, acting as either a weapon, or a cure. Because music has such influence upon perception, emotion, and the brain itself, it can be used as therapy, or used to completely dismember the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, music creates movement by triggering motor areas in the brain, thereby solidifying music's presence in the brain. (Vinther) Music provides sensations similar to that of drugs, or sex, as the same sections of the brain are stimulated. (Fick, Shilts) The sensations created are due to the influx of dopamine, along with the plasticity of the neurons itself. Composers have latched on to this knowledge, creating songs that specifically delay the musical pattern established in the very beginning, which in turn causes the dopamine neurons to remain "in suspense". The very end result is a greater, more powerful emotional response. (Lehrer) Conclusions can be derived that music provides a sense of euphoria, thereby explaining why society views it in such a positive manner. It also leads into exactly why using music as therapy is an obvious solution, yet contributes justification for how devious and deleterious weaponizing music is. Because music generates a sense of exhilaration, using it to heal someone aligns flawlessly with society's notions of music; in contrast, for the same reason, manipulating music to destroy one's sanity goes against the very idea society holds dear. Music as therapy is an idea that makes complete sense in correspondence with society's perception as music as an enjoyable activity. In regards to therapeutic treatment, music can be used in a capacious manner, with treatments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Did Technology Shape American Culture Technology and music have always been interlinked. As technology improves ways of recording and distributing music improves. Over history we have gone from scratchy records to clear and portable MP3s. New and innovative technology have helped to shape America's culture as a nation. In 1877 the first human voice was recorded by Thomas Edison using tinfoil. He was attempting to improve the telegraph when he realized that when he moved tape through the machine it made a noise that sounded similar to speech. He then placed a stylus on to a cylinder made of tinfoil and spoke the words of Mary had a little lamb into the makeshift machine. Before music radio stations broadcasted things such as sermons, sports and the news. Department stores would also have their own stations and they used them to advertise their merchandise. In 1926 the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began the National Broadcasting Network (NBC). These were groups of stations that worked with local stations to syndicate radio shows. These shows focused mostly on music and featured several different live performers. The types of music were diverse and could vary from country to jazz. The Golden Age of Radio was the time period of 1930– 1955. During this time was the great depression and radio was a way to listen to music and receive the news for free. It was a cheap way to have entertainment instead of more expensive ways such as going to a live concert or the movies. Eventually radio shows and broadcasts about news decreased in popularity. All that was left was music. Radio networks transitioned to playing prerecorded music of popular artists. The most popular type of station was a station that plays Top 40. Top 40 is the top 40 songs on the music charts in that particular time period. FM or radio was introduced soon after this and it instantly became popular because it offered music in a high ... • 8. The Manitous: The Ojibway While researching for Native American music and dance, I initially approached this essay with the idea that native americans used music and dance like we have done today. When researching I have discovered that dance is used as a form of entertainment and storytelling. But after reading multiple authors and sources on Native tribes music and dance, they are multiple tribes that not only use music and dance as a form of entertainment, but use it as mean to tell the history of their tribe and to pass on their teachings to others. When I was looking into sources about this subject, I have read a lot from websites that contain information of how they performed their music and dance, through various instruments from the drums, whistles and flutes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the other boys, Pukawiss did not show an interest in running, swimming, or hunting. He was however, fascinated with animals and because of this his fascination drove other people of his tribe away. But that was not stopping Pukawiss, so he "learned much about the animals like the eagles, bears, and snakes, learning their movements and that taking their life a way would have been wrong"(Johnston p. 27–35). As Johnston stated, "The animals had much to teach the humans about values and relationship like loyalty, kindness and friendship. Pukawiss taught his village about the animals by spinning like an eagle in flight or hopping through grass like rabbits or bouncing like a baby deer." Because of this he became a dancer for his tribe. Because of this, many villages wanted him to teach them about the ways of the animals. Because of this, he had to give up his home and became a traveling teacher. Because of this "Pukawiss and his brother Cheeby–aub–oozoo added drums and flute later to the dance."(Johnston, p.31) He also added the stories of humankind to his performances. It is from this, as Johnston wrote, that he invented the hoop dance to help him with this goal. The dancer had become a counsellor with "the hoops representing a circle that returns each problem back to the responsibility of its creator"(Johnston). The hoop is also ... • 9. The Origins Of Jazz Music The artists that took a part of a fascination for syncopation and for improvisation were possibly brass group (cornet or trumpet for the melody, clarinet for counterpoint, trombone or tuba or percussion for tempo), that rather frequently were marching bands, or single pianists, who quite commonly were jazz pianists. Contrary to blues music, that was particularly done by afro–americans, jazz music was as inter–racial as the fusion of New Orleans. Blacks were not the just one that performed jazz. Jazz bands were established by Italians, Creoles and entire type of European settlers. The "African" origins of the music might or might not have been evident to the professionals, but precisely it did not prevent them from using it. Meanwhile, New York ... • 10. African Music Research Paper People have always wondered what exactly African music is. African music is labeled as "African music" but it has never been defined. African music is a form of music that came from indigenous people of Africa. Indigenous people are those who settled in a region from the beginning of time. These people have cultural and historical background tied to Africa. Most importantly they are the original people of Africa. Most indigenous people originated from South Africa. The kind of music that Africans created was their own musical style that has been transformed into many other genre. When people listen to blues, rap, ragtime, jazz, and so many other genres, they are listening to a music form based off African music and African Americans. Early African music has paved a way for American music styles. It is no secret that African Americans have influenced American music in a major way. African Americans are important in the development of every genre of American music. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People do not know that most African music was created because of the obstacles they faced and the music gave them an outlet. African music first had a polyrhythmic structure which was complicated combinations of simple rhythms played at once. There were other music cultures like Western music whose rhythm and combinations differed from African music. Western music did not add a third rhythm in their music, the only combination used was "the triplet played against two 'full value' notes at the same time.'" On the other hand African music used as many as a dozen rhythms and beats at once. Western music began using multiple rhythms but would rarely attempt to use more than two rhythms, let alone using a dozen simultaneously. However, American music began using which is using several tones at once. The idea of playing rhythms, notes, and tones at the same time was derived from African ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Positive And Negative Effects Of Music Positive and Negative Effects of Music: Soulful Noise, Destructive Harmony Music is a form of art, entertainment and pleasure. There are both positive and negative factors when it comes to music. "A change to a new type of music is something to beware of as a hazard to all of our fortunes. For the modes of music are never disturbed without upsetting of the most political and social conventions." (Pluto) I decided to write my essay about this subject backwards. This is because there are less harmful effects of music then there are positive. Also, when people ask the question "Good or shocking news first?" Most people choose to exploit the unwelcomed news first. When it comes to the disturbing factors of music, most automatically assume that all the problems rely on the physical effects such as listening to music harshly. Which is true, music can damage your ability to hear. (Coleman) Children ages from thirteen to seventeen have a higher risk of hearing loss than most fifty–year old's. This is because this age range is the group of pesky teenagers. Teenagers believe that music is a way to escape responsibility and they also believe that its cool to have someone hear your music from a mile away. Personally, I understand the concern. I oppose using artist's music in advertisements for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons why I oppose using artist's music in advertisements is because there are many ways that licensing out your music to businesses can backfire. According to The Changing Landscape of the Music Business by Jacob Carter, "Alex Sally, instrumentalist for the indie–pop duo Beach House, notes that when bands take on corporate sponsors they may lose the image they have worked to create," (paragraph 4).Moreover, a band or solo artists entire concept of their music can be altered. Another reason why I oppose using artist's music in advertisements is because it puts a great deal of stress on the artist who signed a corporate partnership. Repetition helps children learn songs by heart and therefore so many nursery rhymes and children's songs have very simple words which are frequently repeated. It can also be a good idea to let children make up their own verses once they learn the structure and tune of the songs. I would suggest to the parents that when they sing with their children, they share ideas, activities, and tell stories about each song so children have the freedom to express themselves while they sing the versus. "Appropriate musical experiences for young children must take into account the child's developmental level and need for self–expression" (Mayesky, 2012, p. 411). I wanted to have a sleepover with five girls from school, they said that we couldn't fit five other girls in our apartment. I lashed out at them, throwing a full–fledged tantrum, and then I left. Marched out of the door, ignoring their calls for me to come back. My plan was to spend the night at my grandparents house and go back in the morning. It was a short walk, only four blocks to my grandparents, but I didn't make it. On the second block the light was about to turn red. I convinced myself I could make it and ran out into the middle of the street, only to get struck by a car. Funny, I don't even remember dying. I don't remember what it felt like, or if I saw God waiting for me. As soon as the car hit me, my eyes closed, only to be snapped open a few seconds later. But I was no longer in the street, I was in my favorite park. I looked down to see my wrinkled t–shirt and jeans had been replaced with a long, flowy white dress. I felt odd, almost hollow. I broke out into a sprint, and ran in the direction of my house, but when I reached the front gate of the park, I was thrown backwards by an invisible force. On the other hand, rhythm consists of the pattern that is a mixture of sound and silence. They are the use of medications and environment modifications. Due to the adverse side effects of medications, OBRA required the reevaluation of behavior control in DAT patients living in LTC facilities. The authors write that altering the environment to be more sensory appealing instead of using medications is a possible treatment option. Treating pain in the terminally ill is very important and challenging for nurses. Therefore, it is important to use both pharmacologic and nonpharmacological methods to reduce pain. The ability of nurses to use music therapy as a nonpharmacological method to manage pain in the terminally ill is a phenomenon of great importance to nursing. Terminally ill in this literature refers to patients with cancer that have six months or less to live and patients that are hospice or are undergoing palliative care. This literature revealed that using a multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA), significantly less posttest pain was reported in the music versus the control group. Lansky created a music piece named 'Notjustmoreidlechatter' where he took small fragments of his wife's voice when she was reading a novel and then digitally transformed her voice by mixing up her chattering noises, to the point where no word was long enough to be understood. • 20. Music and Memory: The Impression of the Soul Franz Liszt once said "Music embodies feeling without forcing it to contend and combine with thought, as it is forced in most arts and especially in the art of words. If music has one advantage over the other media through which a person can represent the impressions of the soul, it owes this to its supreme capacity to make each inner impulse audible without the assistance of reason. Reason, after all, is restricted in the diversity of its means and is capable only of confirming or describing our affections, not of communicating them directly in their full intensity. To accomplish this even approximately, reason must search for images and comparisons. Music, on the other hand, presents at once the intensity and the expression of feeling. It is the embodied and intelligible essence of feeling, capable of being apprehended by our senses. It permeates them like a dart, like a ray, like a mist, like a spirit, and fills our soul." Music has been passed down from generation to generation to show an audience beauty and associate with their emotions. My violin teacher Brunilda Myftaraj once stated that I could play violin all day without ending and I would feel empty, she advised that unless I connect with my audience than the music I'm playing has no exquisiteness and means nothing to no–one. In the beginning scene, the movie introduces Belle, and the village she lived in that's filled with the sound effect of rooster crowing and birds flapping their wings, in which represents peacefulness accompany by happy singing. From watching Foley video, it shows how the Foley artist used a bundle of plants rubbing against each other to create thunder sound. These connections are what make up life as we know it. One relationship which is often overlooked as being not that significant, is the relationship between a person and music. It is overlooked because of its common use, as we listen to, play and experience music often. However, it is such an important connection, because music has the ability to speak past the ear to the soul. Any musician would agree that music is not just heard, it's felt. Even if one doesn't come from a musical background or know any of the theory related thereto, they can still agree that music has the power to speak to us. So, if we all can agree on this fact, why then does the phrase "deaf musician" present such a strange idea? A deaf musician is like any other musician, they just experience music using different senses. Although deaf or hard of hearing individuals can't hear music very well through their ears, they can still experience it greatly and enjoy it. In this essay I would like to address the most famous deaf musician, Beethoven, and how he experienced music; the technique of feeling vibrations; and the importance of music even to a deaf individual. In 2009, the Royal Shakespeare Company's 'As Told by An Idiot' performed to a primary school a comedic, imaginative version of this play. It included many techniques which make it an example of a combined arts piece. It is also made more comedic to appeal to the younger audiences. The performance included actors, a band and dancers. The actors of the show became the band when they were not on stage. It also allows the audience to get involved during the performance. The troupe used little in the form of backgrounds but made up for it in the ingenious and truly imaginative ways they used props and their own skills to bring the story to life. One way it is a piece of combined arts is the use of the band. There are various uses of music within the piece. These ranged from full songs to background music. The background music helped to set the tone for the scene and the company created an atmospheric score. There were also parts where they helped to convey the drama techniques being used, for example the slowing of music to assist in the slow–motion parts. There was a scene where the whole cast sang as part of the script. This worked to create a more comedic view on the play. Another thing about the music is that all of it is live music. Choices of musical style, instrumentation, and emotional quality are critical in creating the director's vision. Even the absence of music in a scene or an entire movie can contribute to the overall tone of a film. (Forney and Machlis, 639) Most Hollywood films use music to reflect the emotions of a given scene. For example, John Williams guides the viewer's emotions at the end of E.T.: The Extra–Terrestrial from sorrow at the apparent death of E.T. through joy at his recovery, excitement at the chase scene, to sadness at his final farewell. • 33. Music : The Relationship Between Music And Music The relationship between music and mood has been studied as far back as ancient Greece. Since then, scientists and researchers have been using music in therapy in an attempt to change and explain emotions. While the beliefs behind the ability to change one's mood have changed over the millennia, from the idea that the planets control human emotions to modern–day music therapy, it remains an accepted belief in psychological research that listening to music has an impact on the mood and emotion of the listener. Up until the Enlightenment, music was viewed as something to be studied using mathematics and science rather than enjoyed as an art form. Pythagoras, known best for his mathematical equations and studies of triangles, believed that the planets vibrated in the same frequencies as note harmonies in music. He referred to this as the "harmony of the spheres," and used this theory to support his claim that heavenly bodies in motion produced a series of musical tones. Another theory of the ancient Greeks was the "ethos doctrine." This claimed that all melodies had a special ethos, or characteristic spirit, which influenced mood. Aristotle, perhaps one of the best known Greek philosophers and scientists, believed that a person's "very soul" could be altered by music. He argued that in terms of rhythms, "some fix the disposition, others occasion a change in it; some act more violently, others more liberally." Even though there are no brasses and percussions (usually play the lower register and bass melody) in the film, I think Bernard Herrmann used the strings in a way that they are the whole orchestra. He used the double basses and cellos to play out the bottom line of melody and the violins and violas to play the upper melody. He is using the string ensemble but creates the sounding effect of a whole orchestra. As we discussed during class last week that most composers back into that time prefer to use more neo–romantic style music; however, this music score definitely has nothing relate to romantic style. Since then I have picked up the flute, the violin and the guitar along the way. Before attending my current high school, which is Auckland International College, I attended Westlake Boy High School. WBHS is a school where the students are classed based on their academic abilities. The classes are segmented into 3 main sections: A–class, B–class
  • 36. and C–class. A–class students are those who have higher academic abilities. The academic abilities of the students are gauged by an overall exam at the end of each year. Many studies have been conducted throughout the years investigating whether playing a musical instrument affect a student's academic aptitude. From my research online, I found that most of these studies yield results that show that students who play a musical instrument generally have higher academic abilities. I decided that I want to investigate this claim within my own community in the suburb I live in and the exploration provided me with the opportunity to do this. Westlake Boy High School was the optimum choice for me to conduct my investigation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

'Most desktops offer a better price–to–performance ratio' (Kb.wisc.edu, 2014), they are also the most versatile in terms of upgrading. Although it is possible in many cases to replace the RAM and hard drive in a laptop, a desktop allows for all the main components of a computer (including the motherboard and CPU) to be upgraded when they become outdated or need to be replaced. Operating system 'An operating system or OS is a software program that enables the computer hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software. Without a computer operating system, a computer and software programs would be useless ' (Computerhope.com, 2014, online). The most common and reputable OS used in computers is Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS. Internet research suggests that many of the latest DAW software companies recommend Windows 7 or 8 for Microsoft and OS X 10.8/10.9 for Mac. Microsoft Windows offers the most flexibility in terms of computer choice, as it is not limited to one brand, whereas MacOS will only run on Apple computers. • 38. How Do Horror Films Create Suspense While not everybody has seen the iconic thriller Psycho, most people will recognize its now infamous, chilling theme. Though, how exactly does a music piece like it or other horror film pieces, the Jaws theme for example, succeed in making its audience uneasy and thrilled? It's easy to tell when a song is meant to be scary or creepy because of the way it is executed. Horror or creepy music is unlike other genres in the sense that its instrumentation, tempo, and such things, when put together, produce an eerie tone and trigger a feeling of fear in its listeners. By using non–linearities, noises that alert the human brain, and specific techniques in their music, horror films create suspense and fear in viewers. Nonlinearities, harsh and chaotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A composer gives his insight on creating horror soundtracks and says "Obviously the instruments utilized in a piece of horror music have a lot of impact. Certain instruments ––– especially deep, sonorous instruments such as the pipe organ* or cello ––– are often used by horror composers." (Forbis). As mentioned before low sounds (in this case, low instruments can impact) a person's emotions. Using instruments like the ones previously mentioned, a horror film can create fear in its audience. The way instruments are used in film is mentioned by a study saying,"Film score composers have traditionally used knowledge of the natural, nonlinear possibilities of western orchestral, musical instruments, to modify harmonic spectrum and perceived roughness....There are musical composition techniques that mimic what would naturally be called a nonlinear acoustic attribute. These include frequency–based effects...created by the use of harmonic dissonance, trills, vibrato and sudden pitch change... or sudden amplitude change"(Blumstein). Composers will use many musical techniques to achieve particular sounds and create nonlinear noises. How instruments are played can play a significant role to creating a truly fear–worthy piece. This along with what instruments are used and what pitches are played contribute to how successful a horror film is in evoking fear in its audience through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Argumentative Essay On Music Education One of my biggest passions in life has been advocating for music education. This takes after my father who does this for a living. Defending why music education is important is oddly a very difficult task. The issue with this topic, is that there is no real argument saying that the arts are not important. However, when it comes down to budget cuts and funding the arts always seem to get the boot first. There are plenty of ways to effectively defend music education, yet so many people take the wrong pathway and preach what they think the general public wants to hear. People will express how taking music classes helps with test scores and overall GPA, when in reality this is not why we should be defending why music is important. My project serves to help other music advocates truly understand why this argument is ineffective. Do not get me wrong, the studies have proven how music can positively affect the brain and that music students tend to do better on standardized testing. This is a phenomenal discovery that was only proven to be true a few years ago. However, people are using this fact as their main argument and people who are not affiliated with the arts are getting this perception that music is only important to help with test scores. Recently, music was defined as a core subject. When people believe that music is only important because it helps with test scores that is the equivalent of saying that effective writing class is only useful to help with writing scientific conclusions. We live in a test driven society where students are measured by a number on a test rather than what they have to offer outside of the classroom. There are an abundance of examples when people have come up to defend music education by explaining how much it helps with test scores. One of the most iconic articles was done by PBS (Public Broadcasting Station). PBS released an article with the benefits of music and the first comment in the article was, "Research has found that learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in other areas." • 40. Essay about Fine Quality Baroque Music in the Era of... Baroque music is the western music art style that was composed in the era of Renaissance, that is, between 1600 and 1750. Music at any given period reflects tendencies, impulses and influences that are found in art of other kinds of the same period. Therefore the name baroque also applied to the architecture, literature and art in the same period. Baroque has in the past and to some degree in the present had the implications of abnormality, grotesqueness and absurdity. But in its applications to music in the Renaissance period the term baroque does not have connotations that are pejorative because much of the music composed in this period is of high and fine quality (Swain, 7). The instruments that are used for baroque music even now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The performer however should be guided by some factors that help them know what instrument to use where and what sound to get from what instrument (Donington, 131). One, the performer should be able to distinguish indications that are scanty for the instruments that the notations may be showing. In that all the instruments that the performer is using fit in the kind of that they are playing. They should also look out for the effects of the musician that may need working on for the actual performance (Donington, 131). Two, as much as it is the responsibility of the performer to choose the instruments, looking up for alternative instruments that are listed is important. That way, if there is an instrument that is missing, the performer should always be able to get an alternative. This also suitable when the there are many instruments needed, the alternative instruments can be used interchangeably (Donington, 131). Three, the notion that instruments that are suitable are acceptable may not always work. A performer should understand that every instrument is made for a specific use and should be the only use it must be put to. That is, it would be impossible to use an instrument and try to make it sound in a particular way. The distinctions were made in the baroque era as much as they do now (Donington, 131). Every instrument in baroque music should be used to what it really is designed to, this is to make sure that the sound of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
