Ideas generation –
mind map / mood
board
An idea generation allows you to think deeper into your idea for your film and see
what path you want thestory to beginto take. By generating different idea paths, you
are able tothen go on to consider a vaster rangeof plot developments. Thisdocument
allowed me to really thinkabout what I wanted from my film and then continue from
there.
Proposal By creating a proposal form you can generate a summary of all of your plans for the
future of your film, in my case ‘Pursued’. The proposal form allowed me to create
almost like a pitch document that places everything in one place that shows exactly
what Iam trying toachievefrom myfilm. Finally, it allowed metoshow mycontextual
thoughtsregardingaspectssuch as: audience, cost, how long it might taketofilm etc.
Script A script establishes the narrative of the film. A narrative summary is able to be
generated through thescript. Asa result, thisformsthebasisof a productionscriptas
the technicalstructuregivesenough to detailto figureout how I how want the scenes
in Pursued to appear. Due to this, the script acts as a guide to creating a stronger
visualisation and a general basis for storyboards.
Storyboard A storyboard is useful for visualisation as you can begin to piece together how you
want your characters and scenes to appear during the film. Furthermore, by
generating a storyboard I can find the pace of my sequence and how long each shot
should be. As a result of this, I was able to use the storyboard tomake sure that what
I have written fits in the time I expect it to take. Additionally, a storyboard can be
useful for identifying the look of the film and can call attention to specific
iconographies.
Lighting Plans A lighting planwill firstly allow me tolight the scene for illumination. I will be ableto
make sure that there is enough light for everyone to see what is going on whilst they
are on set. Next, the lighting plan allows me to create a lighting arrangement that

generates a dramatic effect. This enables me to cast shadows or bring someone into
the light. During my horror film I will need to generate a scary shadow to follow my
protagonist. Finally, the lighting plan allows me to create something that I can
practically shoot. I will be able to create something that I can make sure that its
possible and can quickly get my lights set up when I am on the set.
Production Schedule By generating a production schedule, I will be ableto organizemy timefor when I am
filming Pursued. Theproductionscriptcanportraywhat and whenI should be doing.
Thisties together what isrequired for the shooting of the film: thepeople equipment,
places, props, timesavailableetc. Furthermore, the schedule allows me to generatea
breakdownof time, I can describethelength of timeI think I will need for each shot.
Finally, this schedule allows for contingencies – things going wrong – and creates
room for things to take longer than you expect.
Location Recce A location recce is used for three key things. First of all, by creating a location recce
you will be able to check the locationis suitableor compareand choose between two
or more locations. Secondly, the location recce allows you to highlight any potential
problems –what might gowrong whileyou areshooting. Finally, whilegenerating the
location recce permission to shoot in your chosen location must be gained.
Risk Assessment Risk assessments allow risks to be identify and see what reasonably might go wrong
and while shooting for a film. There are two stages that you can follow while
conducting a risk assessment to thoroughly assess what could potentially not go to
plan. First of all, I needed to develop strategies sothat theserisksthat Ihad identified
don’t go wrong. The next step involves if they do go wrong how will you minimisethe
risk of the outcome. Thisensures that everyone is kept as safe as possibleat all times.
Budget Budgets allow film creators to get ensure that they are financially organised and
secure. They can generate an accurate costing plan of the project as they track what
they need to purchase and when. Also, budgets allow you to make sure you have got
funds that meet the costs of everything you have budgeted in for your film. Budgets

will also enableyou toidentifywhere you might save money as you canevaluate what
is and isn’t working.
Call Sheets Call sheets allow you to create a daily list of who needs to be where, when they need
to bethereand with what. Thisgeneratesa senseof organisationfor thoseinvolved in
the shooting of any movie. It enables people to know what time they are required to
be there and work in timeto them to get there early to carryout lighting testsand get
their makeup done etc. Call sheets arealso extremely useful so you canbe financially
organised. For example, if you were to only need an actor on set for 2hours then you
wouldn’t have them there all day as you pay people a daily rateor half daily rate – so
you will arrangeit to only paythem for when you need them to be there. Additionally,
call sheets area useful wayof knowing when you need to hireequipment and for how
long. You can check against the production script and storyboards to make sure you
have got everything such as props.
Booking forms Booking formsarequitesimilar tocallsheets inregard to you knowing whenyou need
everything for and where you need it to be at that specific time. As a result of this
organisation ahead of the event, you will have the correct resources when you need
them on set. Also, due to the forms including your equipment, it makes it harder to
lose trackof what you’ve got on set. Due to this you always know everything that you
booked out and can easily recall what needs to be sent back to which company and
when.
Contributor Release
forms
A contributor release form is similar to how a films initial creative planning involves
laying a paper trail for future referral if you get a copy right issue appear. The forms
establish that you own the content and that the actors don’t. This is because they
consent to their image and their representations being down to you to decide. As a
result of the contributor releaseform, you have ownership of the materialrather than
the actors. Some actors have been known to insist on clauses during these forms in
order to gain some control over their representation. For example, an actor may ask
for a non-nudity clause in their form if they don’t feel comfortable being naked on

screen. The contributor releaseform establishesthe fact theycan’t object towhat you
do with the footage and thereforeties people into your project that you are creating.
