1. How effective is the
combination of your main
products and ancillary texts?

2. In order to create a successful marketing device for my Trailer, film poster and Magazine cover I
used various techniques to achieve the most innovative design to attract movie goers. In order to
achieve this I experimented with many different media devices. All my advertising devices are
significant in teasing the audience and making them want to see the content of what is being
shown to them, which is a unique selling device.
Colours and font use
I constructed the ancillary texts with connotations which fit in with the horror genre. This consists
of the colour red, black, grey, white and dark fuchsia pink. The reasons for these choices of colours
are to fit the typical conventions of a horror movies marketing devices. The significance of having
the colour red and black are to signify and foreshadow danger, death and evidently distinguishing
between the antagonists nature of being evil. Therefore they are all powerful colours with
connotations of danger and death. Black is also symbolic of anarchism which is significant in
portraying the fact that there should be no law against murder and trial from the antagonists point
of view.
Film poster and Empire magazine cover
My film poster and magazine cover both consist of the protagonist characters face. This is because
the girl who is acting as my main characters face in immersing and brings the audiences attention
to her significant facial expressions. I carefully edited the main characters face through the use of
adjusting the contrast and brightness in order to make her appear more visible to the audience and
make her appear a little ghastly and ghost-like due to the fact the narrative is in aid of her having
nightmares and eventually becoming possessed by the antagonist.

3. Film poster connotations and denotations
Using the same character on both my film poster and magazine cover identifies to the audience that
she is the central protagonist and focalises on her facial features and expression by enhancing the
colour scheme in order to make her appear more clear. The protagonist character has conventional
features of a typical protagonist character, with the long dark hair and
feminine young face and a pale complexion emphasizing on her
vulnerability and innocence as a teenager. Another reasons for using
this particular character as the main focus for the
poster and magazine cover is to emphasize on the
appearance and importance of her role in the entire
movie.
The background and foreground to my poster consists
Of a dark forest with a cropped image of the
protagonist to make it appear she is clearly alone
In the forest which adds to the isolation and secluded
Atmosphere.
