The document discusses abounding or being present in great quantity spiritually. It outlines several areas Christians should abound in according to the Bible: faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love, liberality, good works, consolation, hope, thanksgiving, and pleasing God. The document encourages readers to consider what they are abounding in and exhorts Christians to abound more in the work of the Lord.
2. Deuteronomy 30:9-10 The LORD your
God will make you abound in all the work
of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in
the increase of your livestock, and in the
produce of your land for good. For the
LORD will again rejoice over you for good
as He rejoiced over your fathers, 10 if you
obey the voice of the LORD your God, to
keep His commandments and His statutes
which are written in this Book of the Law,
and if you turn to the LORD your God with
all your heart and with all your soul.
3. ABOUNDING
A. ABOUND: to be present in large numbers or
in great quantity, be prevalent
B. In what do you abound, in your life?
C. God wants us to abound in some things in
our life here on earth.
4. I. ABOUND IN FAITH,
VIRTUE, KNOWLEDGE,
SELF-CONTROL,
PERSEVERANCE,
GODLINESS, BROTHERLY
KINDNESS, LOVE
5. I. ABOUND IN THESE THINGS
2 Peter 1:5-11 But also for this very reason, giving all
diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control
perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to
godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly
kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and
abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks
these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has
forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make
your call and election sure, for if you do these things
you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be
supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting
kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
6. I. ABOUND IN THESE THINGS
A. ABOUND IN FAITH - Colossians 2:6-7 As you have therefore
received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and
built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been
taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
B. ABOUND IN LOVE
1. Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound
still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
2. 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 And may the Lord make you
increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as
we do to you, 13 so that He may establish your hearts
blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
3. 2 Thessalonians 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for
you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows
exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds
toward each other,
8. II. ABOUND IN LIBERALITY
A. ABOUND IN LIBERALITY TO HELP FOR THE NEEDY SAINTS -
Corinthians 8:1-7 Moreover, brethren, we make known to
you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of
Macedonia: 2 that in a great trial of affliction the
abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded
in the riches of their liberality. 3 For I bear witness that
according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability,
they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much
urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship
of the ministering to the saints. 5 And not only as we had
hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and
then to us by the will of God. 6 So we urged Titus, that as
he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you
as well. 7 But as you abound in everything--in faith, in
speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for
us--see that you abound in this grace also.
9. II. ABOUND IN LIBERALITY
B. ABOUND IN LIBERALITY WITH AID TO
PREACHERS - Philippians 4:15-17 Now you
Philippians know also that in the beginning
of the gospel, when I departed from
Macedonia, no church shared with me
concerning giving and receiving but you only.
16 For even in Thessalonica you sent aid
once and again for my necessities. 17 Not
that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that
abounds to your account.
10. III. ABOUND IN GOOD WORKS
A. ABOUND IN THE WORK OF THE LORD - 1 Corinthians
15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast,
immovable, always abounding in the work of the
Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the
Lord.
B. ABOUND IN EVERY GOOD WORK - 2 Corinthians 9:6-
8 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap
sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap
bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in
his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God
loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all
grace abound toward you, that you, always having
all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance
for every good work.
11. IV. ABOUND IN CONSOLATION
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who
comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may
be able to comfort those who are in any
trouble, with the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the
sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our
consolation also abounds through Christ.
12. V. ABOUND IN HOPE
Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill
you with all joy and peace in believing, that you
may abound in hope by the power of the Holy
Spirit.
13. VI. ABOUND IN THANKSGIVING
2 Corinthians 4:15 For all things are for your
sakes, that grace, having spread through the
many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the
glory of God.
14. VII. ABOUND IN PLEASING GOD
1 Thessalonians 4:1 Finally then, brethren, we
urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you
should abound more and more, just as you
received from us how you ought to walk and to
please God;
15. IN WHAT ARE YOU ABOUNDING?
A. What is happening abundantly in your life?
B. Are you a Christian?
C. Are you abounding in the work of the Lord?
