The document provides an evaluation of the filmmaking process for a short film. It discusses three main lessons learned: 1) the importance of scheduling and timing, as actors were unavailable on scheduled days; 2) choosing appropriate locations, such as moving scenes closer to bushes to block wind noise; and 3) managing expectations, as the final film was longer than initially estimated despite having a detailed storyboard and shotlist. It also reflects on addressing challenges like windy conditions, traffic noise, and camera malfunctions through problem-solving techniques during production.
1. Evaluation
The three main things I have learnt about filming is the location, the schedule and the
timing. The reason why I chose these three aspects is because the schedule was important
for the first scene and it went as planned and everyone was present but the second and
final part of our short film, the Silhouette Man wasn’t able to make it on the day so we
changed it to the Tuesday of the following week but he didn’t turn up so we decided to use
a different actor and that succeeded. Timing was also very off because we planned to shoot
the second part of our film on a Friday at 11a.m. but people didn’t show up at that time
including myself, caused by traffic. The actors were all on time but the actual crew had
trouble making it on time.
The location was a good location apart from the wind so we decided to move the scene
closer towards the bushes because it was way more efficient for us and it blocked out most
of the sounds from the traffic but the day we filmed the second and third scenes, it was a
very windy day hence why some of the dialogue had to be removed when I was editing and
since it was a sad scene I muted the sound to make the atmosphere more sympathizing and
it worked out well when I had finished editing.
