Terrorist Attacks On The Cold War
After Al–Qaeda's involvement in the Cold War, their planned attacks were a set–up for something
bigger: the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11th, 2001. Each terrorist
attack got progressively worse in terms of life lost and the amount of lives the attack altered. Each
attack got closer in time, going from years apart to months apart. The increase in attacks should have
set off alarms as to what was going to happen. The attacks that follow are the ones that were
confirmed to have been executed by Al–Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. There are many more attacks
that have occurred that evidence suggests could be linked to the terrorist organization but have not
but confirmed by the organization.

The attacks in Yemen went unnoticed by many people, including the United States, while the attacks
were noted as a success on Al–Qaeda's beliefs. While the attacks did not cause much commotion or
gain a lot of attention it shows it was pivotal is showing the change of direction from fighting armies
to killing civilians.
The second attack occurred on February 26, 1993 carried out in New York, USA. Ramzi Yousef,
who later on is known to plan and execute many attacks planned to use a truck bomb on the World
Trade Center in New York. Yousef drove the truck under the World Trade Center to the parking
garage. He believed the bomb take out Tower One's foundation and knock down Tower Two in the
process. If the attack were to go as planned the attack would have killed over 250,000 people.
However, the foundation did not break, it shook but remained stable. He succeeded in killing six
people and injuring 1,042 others.
The third attack, which was intercepted by intelligence and ultimately failed, was an attempt on the
life of the United States current President, Bill Clinton. The third attack was to happen in Manila,
Philippines engineered by Osama bin Laden. The assassination attempt was intercepted by U.S
intelligence minutes before the President's motorcade was to leave. The agents then found a bomb
strategically planted under a bridge the President would have had to take.
The fourth attacks occurred in August of 1998. Two U.S.

The Beslan Terrorist Attack
The morning of September 1, 2004, a terrorist group encompassed children, parents, and faculty on
the first day of the new school year at School Number One in Beslan, a Russian town in the republic
of North Ossetia, and took them captive. This was just the beginning of the three horrific days that
were experienced by more than one thousand people held hostage. Chechen separatists stormed the
school on Wednesday morning. The standoff lasted until Friday when Russian Special Forces took
back the school following a firefight. After the three days of psychological and physical torture, the
total carnage left 331 people dead and over 700 people injured. This terrorist attack had left Russia
in shambles with the same devastating impact that the 9/11 ... Show more content on

First, as a result of World War II, the Ingush and Chechens were deported from their ancestral lands
and majority of Ingushetia's territory was put into North Ossetia's control. Second, two instances of
ethnic cleansing occurred that are found to be relevant to the Beslan attack. One instance involved
Ossetian authorities forcing over 30,000 Ingush people from their land. Another was a war between
the Russian and the Chechen that resulted in 80,00–100,000 murdered. Third, Vladimir Putin
allowed the use of aerial bombing during the second Chechen war. By doing so, approximately
20,000 Chechen and Ingush people were killed and over 300,000 Chechens were driven out of their
territory. Overall, the citizens of Chechnya and Ingushetia experienced a number of years filled with
trauma and death. The reasons of the Beslan attack are best summarized by two demands given by
the terrorists after capturing the hostages. Both demands involved the Ingush and Chechen. In the
first demand, the rebel fighters that were captured during the raid in Narzan, led by Basaev, were to
be released. The second demand was for President Putin to completely remove Russian troops from
Chechnya. The terrorist group placed the blame for Beslan directly onto President Putin and the

9/11 Terrorist Attacks
Broadcasted fear and alarming unorganized responses to the 9/11 terrorist attacks lead US policy
makers to create the most popular policy affecting homeland security and similar federal agencies.
The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and
Obstruct Terrorism (USA Patriot Act) was enacted by President George W. Bush in 2001. In
response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Patriot Act was promptly
prepared in just six weeks after the attacks. (McCarthy, 2002) Underlying weaknesses of federal

There is no disbelief that the United States has had historical conflicts with North Korea's dictatorial
leaders. Currently there have been passing threats from North Korea's dictatorial leader Kim Jung
Un to US president Donald Trump. Using current international approaches to the North Korean
nuclear problem–solutions are based on the logic of crime and punishment. "According to this
approach, North Korea's crimes – possession of nuclear weapons and violation of UN resolutions –
must be punished through forceful, comprehensive sanctions. Such sanctions, the thinking goes, will
cause so much discomfort in the North that the regime will be at risk of collapse and Kim Jung Un
will be compelled to choose denuclearization (Moon, 2016, pg. 343)." Policy makers ideally want to
ensure that foreign policy is perfected to the best of their knowledge and that national security is
performing to the best of their ability. "America's main motive has always been denuclearization in
line with its nonproliferation policy, especially after post 9/11 security concerns (Petrželová, 2017,
pg. 10)." To avoid similar events to 9/11 posed by North Korea, policy makers should allow
counterterrorism tactics to be executed as thoroughly as possible. The protection and safety of US
citizens should always be a top priority for government agencies and policy makers. Kim Jong Un,

The Terrorist Attacks On 9 / 11
Abstract
The terrorist attacks on 9/11 made a great impact on our nation both economically and
psychologically. This paper reviews the findings of some of the research that has been done since
this tragic event. A big topic is the initial response our government had after the attack. This includes
local, state and federal government. Many new emergency response protocols have been put in place
based on the rescue efforts that took place that day. It took the lives of many for our country to
understand how real the threat of terrorism is in America. Terrorism is so prevalent in other
countries. The United States should have learned from their experiences instead of waiting until
after it happened. Furthermore, in this age of terrorism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also had natural resources that they wanted such as natural gas and copper. Jabeen, Mazhar,
and Goraya (2010) report that the United States provided military support to Pakistan during this
time and did not get directly involved. It was ten years later in 1989 that President Reagan stepped
in and made the Soviet Union pay a high military and political price for becoming involved with
Afghanistan. A civil war erupted after the Geneva Accords were signed and this brought the Taliban
to power.
On the morning of September 11, 2001 (9/11), the nation watched in horror as terrorists attacked.
Four airplanes were hijacked by members of a terrorist organization called al Qaida. The Twin
Towers were targeted successfully by two airplanes. A third airplane had a successful hit into the
Pentagon. The fourth airplane was unsuccessful in their attempt to target Washington D.C. The
terrorists were overtaken by the passengers and the plane ultimately crashed before getting to the
intended target. Americans watched on live television as these events unfolded in disbelief. It
became a media race to get to the scene and provide coverage of the events. It is because America
witnessed almost every detail that it had such a deep, devastating impact. Americans were terrified
and frozen in fear of what was next to come.
In October 2001, the United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan (Smith, n.d.) where they
successfully took down the Taliban. It wasn't

The Threat Of Terrorist Attacks
Terrorist attacks similar to the one experienced in 2001 have left a number of Americans concerned
over the likelihood of future terrorist attacks and their potential impacts, as well. Such attacks have
increased the level of uncertainty regarding what may happen, which only serves to heighten anxiety
and stress levels. Weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), which include chemical, biological, and
radiological weapons, have increased the likelihood of incidents of terrorism in America
(Friedmann, & Cannon, 2009, p. 9). The possibility of terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda employing
WMDs against Americans is very real. A WMD may be defined as a weapon that has the capacity to
cause grievous harm and/or destruction and death on a grand scale ... Show more content on

A modern pattern of terrorism seems to lean towards loosely organized and self–financed global
networks of terrorist groups. Radical Islamic groups such as Al Qaeda, as well as other religious
groups using religion as an excuse, have become a threat to the interests of the United States and
other friendly regimes. International terrorism has become a key threat to U.S. domestic and foreign
security. The timing and selection of target by terrorists has the potential of affecting America's
interests in important areas such as nuclear nonproliferation and the safeguarding of commerce. The
increasing political participation of terrorist and extremist parties in foreign countries and the visible
growth of cross–national connections among various terrorist organizations have also attracted the
attention of the United States. This is because such links usually involve combinations of
technology transfer, funding, and military training. The 2001 terrorist attacks served as a catalyst for
broad and far–reaching changes in the security efforts of the United States (Friedmann, & Cannon,
2009, p. 16). The attacks led to changes in not only how America would identify and respond to
threats, but also its efforts in preventing them, as well. Among the most notable changes was the
establishment of the DHS (Department of Homeland Security), which was intended to lead broader
homeland security endeavors though the

Terrorist Attacks On The United States
September 11th, 2001, alleged Al–Qaeda members attacked the United States of America with four
passenger planes, Boeing 757s. Two planes flew into the North and South Towers of the World
Trade Center in New York, one plane flew into the Pentagon, and the remaining plane was possibly
targeting the White House but was unsuccessful. People all over America felt an utter shock and
disbelief after this tragic event as people demanded answers. After the terrorist attacks, a portion of
Americans started to believe in conspiracies proving the government was behind it all. To add,
Americans also believed that the U.S. government knew in advance of the terrorist attacks on
September 11th due to the time between the attacks and the Bush administration's attempt to
investigate, the National Security Association's lack of investigation of suspicious phone calls, and
the odd "collapse" of World Trade Center Seven. However, the government tried to counter attack
with the points that Al Qaeda was behind the attacks on September 11th, Khalid Mohammed was the
mastermind behind September 11th, and that debris hit World Trade Center Seven. After the tragedy,
the U.S. government believed that Al–Qaeda hijacked the planes used in the attacks. During
investigations after the attacks, the FBI found a copy of the Koran–the holy book of Islam–and pilot
manuals in a hijacker's car at the Logan International Airport in Boston prior to the attacks. The FBI
then traced down the hijackers to

Terrorist Attacks
Introduction Within the last year the United States has been exposed to many terrorist attacks and
threats that could or has harm the American people. The attacks range from mass shooting to suicide
bomber to truck raining over pedestrians. Not to mention, just recently on 11 December 17 there
was an attempted bomber in New York; its just to show that there is no end of stoping terrorism
from happening, however, the American people can find a way to prevent the next terrorist attacks
or threats from happening by increase security measure and predicting the when can the next attack
through statistics calculations.

month in the US. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the graph shows over the course of 30 months it displayed the skewness of the graph to the
right, which mean that more terrorist incident can be expected in the near future.
Figure 2
Results As a results, from the data analysts more terrorist attack are happening every year. The
average number of attack can be expected to happen is once per month, and especially during the
holiday season where the terrorist attack are more likely to increase. Furthermore, base from the
graph it look like the spring time frame is where there is a likely to none terrorist activity. Therefore,
with all the season combine together there is a positive trend of terrorist attack and that can affect
the mean and the standard deviation.
Conclusion In conclusion, the average number of terrorist incidents is about once per month in the
United States, and it's normally increase during the holiday and not so much in the spring time.
Nevertheless, with every problem that the United States face their must be a solution, therefore, an
increase of security measure is needed to protect the American people and to reduce the average
number of terrorist attack from about one per month to zero. As the new year is approaching there is
an uncertainty of when the next attack will happen, but how can the United State prepare to fend off
those attack to project its people? The answer still remains unknown and wait for the future to

The Terrorist Attack on 9/11
The terrorist attack on September 9, 2001, known as 9/11, was the most devastating terrorist attack
to date, due to the high death toll, the suspected secondary explosion found in the Twin Towers, and
the explosion at the Pentagon. In order to learn about the 9/11 Terrorist Attack, one must learn more
about what happened.
On September 9, 2001, at 7:59 am, The American Airlines Flight 11 took off from Boston Logan
Airport with 92 people onboard. At 8:14 am, the United Airlines Flight 175 took off from Boston
with a direct flight to Los Angeles. At 8:19 am, the flight attendants found out that Flight 11 was
hijacked. During that time, the Boston Airport was in contact with the air force, but the air force
ignored them, and thought was an error. At 8:41 am, United Airlines Flight 93 took off from Newark
International Airport. Meanwhile, in New York at 8:46 am, American Flight 11 crashed into the
North Tower of the World Trade Center. All of the New York City Fire Department and Police
Department were sent to evacuate the building. In Florida, 1,184 miles away, Andrew Card the
White House Chief of Staff notified President George Bush that a plane had just hit the World Trade
Center.
In the South Tower, authorities started evacuating about 10,000 to 14,000 people from the building.

The Terrorist Attack 9 / 11 Essay
Multiple groups and civilians have responded to the terrorist attack 9/11 in different ways, having
different viewpoints, values, and ideologies. George W.Bush who was the President of the United
States of America at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks was against what occurred. George W.Bush
talks about the incident as being a monumental day in our nations history, and how he went from
being a "President primarily focused on domestic issues to a war time President", something he
never anticipated or wanted (27). George W.Bush valued America and it's rights to freedom and
believed that whoever was responsible for this act of terrorism is held responsible. His values and
beliefs can be seen as a conservatism ideology as he believes terrorists must be stopped and
destroyed, he doesn't believe that militant Islamists can peacefully co–exist with the Western world,
forever will be on going attacks on America implicated by Islamic terrorists (28). Conservatisms
believe that terrorism posses one of the greatest threats to the United States of America (34).
During the attacks George W.Bush responded by trying to prevent further hijack attacks, which
meant forcing down all flights on September 11th 2001, any flight that didn't cooperate would be
viewed as hostile therefore be shot down by the air force. When he heard about Flight 93 he
believed that it had occurred because of his orders given, later finding out it was because of the

Terrorist Attacks: Weapons Of Mass Destruction
After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 the United States became very focused on
preventing future attacks and preparing first responders for any future attacks. Al Qaeda was not
able to use one of the known weapons of mass destruction (WMD) so they created their own with
air planes, fuel, and dedicated followers. Technically, they combined hazards by using a flammable
chemical to create a bomb. Terrorist groups in today's world have become creative in their attacks
which makes it more difficult to prepare for and respond to attacks. It also increases risk for first
responders. When a first responder arrives on the scene of a terrorist attack they may not know if a
chemical, biological, or radiological agent was used. If they do not have personal protective
equipment to deal with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weapons of mass destruction include chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives
(CBRNE) materials. Terrorist may decide to use them independently or combine hazards to create a
larger attack. While terrorist attacks are usually targeted at humans, CBRN materials can also affect
animals and the environment (containment soil and water). A chemical, biological, radiological or
nuclear "attack against people could be used to cause illness, death, fear, societal disruption, and
economic damage. An attack on agricultural plants and animals would primarily cause economic
damage, loss of confidence in the food supply," and possibly deaths for animals and humans (Forest

The Terrorist Attacks Of The United States Essay
Introduction
Living the United State when one thinks of a terrorist attacks often their mind will first go to a larger
scale attack such as the events of September 11th 2001. "September 11, 2001 changed the United
States forever, the terrorist attack that day marked a dramatic escalation in a trend toward more
destructive terrorist attacks which began in the 1980s. It also reflected a trend toward more
indiscriminate targeting among international terrorists. The vast majority of the more than 3,000
victims of the attack were civilians. In addition, the attack represented the first known case of
suicide attacks carried out by international terrorists in the United States." (Waston, 2002) However
as the years have gone by we have come to learn that terrorist attacks are not always on a large scale
and that even one person who is inspired by the ideologies of a terrorist group without being directly
connected to them can carry out attacks. Those that engage in this type of terrorism are referred to as
lone wolf terrorist. A recent example of such an even was the mass shooting at the San Bernardino
Inland Regional Center in December of 2015.
Synopsis
On December 2, 2015 80 employees of the San Bernardino county health department were attending

The Terrorist Attack on the Twin Towers
When September 11 happened, I was too young to understand the gravity of what caused it and what
the effects were when it happened. When I was growing up, I started to grasp what happened and
understand why certain things about that day were suspicious. Some people believed that terrorists
plotted the entire thing, while others believed that the government was completely behind it; I on the
other hand was the middle. To this day I believe in evidence, and where there is little or no evidence,
I become skeptical. I know that there were planes hitting the Twin Towers because there is video
evidence proving it, but what happened with World Trade Center Building 7, the Pennsylvania field
crash, and the Pentagon are questionable because there is no sophisticated evidence to prove that
terrorists were behind it. Why am I not convinced with what the government says about terrorists
attacking the Pentagon? What makes a person doubt what the government tells us, and what makes
people believe in conspiracies when there is not enough evidence or lack there of? When the Twin
Towers were hit, bystanders claimed to have seen a military plane because it was unmarked and had
no windows. In addition to that, researchers looked at the video evidence of the Twin Towers, and
what the government investigation papers said to understand how it really happened. Steven Jones
of Brigham Young University wrote a research paper about how the Twin Towers and Building 7

Internet in support of a cause that requires little time or involvement, is currently a huge topic in
today's media. Many believe that millennials like myself have no concept of performing anything
other than slacktivism. Indeed, many feel that while slacktivism has no immediate danger, it
encourages the decline of actual progress on issues (Penney, 2015). Terrorism, also all–too–familiar
for millennials, festered and opened up again in way most Americans had not anticipated. Seeing the
devastation and quick responses of these attacks led me to analyze American responses to this
tragedy. The question But this leads me to my question of why? Why did the Facebook community
cover their profile pictures with a French flag? While this question seems like an easily answered
one, it was not easy to arrive at. Following the November 13th attacks I found myself at awe of the
new media we see in our world today. The way that news covers tragedy is different, and even
where people go to for reliable news has changed. I began my search for information at these topics.
Later, my mind marveled at social media in the form of YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
These websites were often the source of public opinion on this event. I wondered if there was any
pressure to participate in Parisian support. Finally, after looking at social media, I arrived at my final
inquiry,

The Israeli-Palestinian Terrorist Attacks
The attack began on September 5, 1972, and involved eight Palestinian terrorists. The terrorists
invaded the Olympic Village, killing two members of the Israeli team and taking an addition nine
other Israelis athletes as hostages in an attempt to bargain for the release of over 230 Palestinian
prisoners in Israeli jails. Following the abduction, all nine athletes, along with five terrorists and a
German policeman, died in a botched rescue attempt (History.com Staff, 2009). I think that this
event is considered significant for a number of reasons. The first is that the Olympics were a
globally televised event with an estimated 1 billion people view the games. This made the terrorist
attack and the events that subsequently ensured, one of the most globally viewed terrorist events of
that time period. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

force that ultimately lead to the death of the hostages due to miscommunication and lack of proper

Terrorist Attacks On The United States
Terrorism is known as the use of violence or power to get ahead in political aims. There have been
numerous different terrorist attacks on the United States in all the years, but 9/11 is by far the worst.
On September 11, 2001, around 8:45 a.m., something that will live in the memories of others
forever. With around 3,000 fatalities and millions of people affected by this disaster it would be day
that is never forgotten. A terrorist group, led by Osama Bin Laden, known as Al Qaeda teamed up
with the Taliban to plan these awful attacks. Bin Laden was a millionaire's son and was found very
fond of by many of the Arab nations. When Al–Qaeda and the Taliban forces joined together, they
became much more powerful, and in 1996 Osama Bin Laden and ... Show more content on

At this moment, everybody there and around the world knew this was a terrorist attack. With both
towers stuck by jets and both on fire, the FAA better known as the Federal Aviation Administration
shut down all New York City area airports to prevent anything else from happening. The city also
shut off all of its bridges and tunnels so that nobody would be able to get in or leave. At 9:43 a.m.,
American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon, creating a huge cloud of smoke and
immediate evacuation from the building. At this moment in time people of the United States began
to question exactly how many of these plans are coming and what they are going to hit. At 10:05
a.m., the south tower of the World Trade Center begins to collapse, falling straight down into the
streets of New York City. A huge mass of dust and debris from the tower slowly drifts away from the
building. Minutes after that, a portion of the Pentagon collapses, then around 10:10 a.m., United
Airlines Flight 93, another hijacked passenger jet, crashes in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, close
to Pittsburg. Around 18 minutes later, the north tower of the World Trade Center also falls to the
ground, creating another big cloud of smoke and debris. The aftermath of this terrible attack affected
people and their communities nationwide. It took many years to rebuild the destroyed parts of New
York City.

Paris was the target of multiple terrorist attacks on November 13. Over 129 people were killed, and
350 more were injured. The most deaths occurred at the concert of a U.S. rock group. Hostages were
taken at this location, and suicide bombers attacked several other locations. This is not the first
terrorist attack in Paris, another one took place less than a year ago at the headquarters of the Charlie

much of Iraq and Syria and have beheaded several journalist and Christians. The authorities believe
that there were three teams of terrorists that performed the attacks. Seven of the terrorist were killed

9/11 Terrorist Attacks
On September 11th, 2001, The US experienced the worst terrorist attack ever planned and executed
on our country's soil. The attacks affected all Americans who watched and were victims of the
horrifying event. Our airport security definitely evolved in many ways, along with everyday lives of
the citizens in our country. One of the tons of people to watch the attack as it happened was my
mother. "I was at home, in the country in McLouth Kansas, watching Good Morning America," my
mom remarked. She was talking to her good friend Cindy Akasaki on the phone, having a nice
morning conversation. Cindy abruptly told my mom she had to leave. Why? The twin towers had

America's Contribution to Terrorist Attacks
Can acts of terrorist violence be morally justified? To any of us who witnessed the attacks of 9/11,
or indeed any terrorist attack in recent history, this may seem an absurd question. How, we ask,
could anyone justify the deaths of over 3,000 innocent civilians? While these acts are morally
reprehensible, so too are the acts of the west that give rise to Islamic terrorism and the west's
military responses to terrorist acts. According to Honderich, every human being is entitled to a
decent lifespan, good health, freedom of expression and respect. We are all morally responsible, he
argues, to see that these conditions are upheld wherever we have that power to uphold them. In the
Middle East we have failed miserably. The history of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this gross negligence on behalf of the US government was a moral crime, then the military
response to 9/11 is nothing short of pure evil. On October 7th 2001, the American military, backed
by Great Britain invaded Afghanistan in an effort to capture Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al
Quaeda. Although no reliable figure exists, civilian casualties are estimated to be as high as 30,557.
The conflict continues and Osama Bin Laden has not been found. In March 2003, the predominantly
American coalition forces invaded the sovereign state of Iraq. The reasons given for the invasion
were to "Disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, end Saddam Hussein's support for terrorism
and free the Iraqi people" . Six years on, Iraq is in a state of civil war, no weapons of mass
destruction have been found and no credible link between Saddam Hussein and Al Quaeda exists.
However, coalition forces have managed to murder an estimated 99,431 innocent civilians. By using
a single act of terrorism to justify the invasion of two sovereign nations and the extermination of
almost 130,000 civilians, with countless allegations of torture and other human rights violations
along the way, the United States of America has become the world's foremost terrorist

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, now referred to as 9/11, were a series of coordinated,

265 people died on the hijacked planes, 2650 people died from inside the World Trade Centers, 343
firefighters died while trying to save others, and 125 people died at the Pentagon. Days after the
twin towers had collapsed people were still searching for the miracle of hope, that they would once
again find their loved ones alive. Amidst all the panic, it was hard for people to step back and realize
that there was a very slim chance that they would find the person they were looking for. The after–
effects of the tragedy involved searching for bodies amongst the rubble of what was left of the
World Trade Center Towers and of the Pentagon. As people witnessed the first and second planes fly
into the trade centers, they saw the buildings shatter to pieces, and watched as people desperate to

Terrorist Cyber Attacks
Terrorist cyber–attacks on national institutions will result in greater devastation than a cyber–crime
directed against an individual. At the current rate in which technology is increasing, establishments
must constantly upgrade their system's security. If the national institutions fail to be vigilant to the
present day cyber threats, they will become victims of terrorist cyber–attacks. "Our nation's
government, military, scientific, commercial and entertainment sectors all operate on the same
networks as our adversaries" (Alexander 18). A terrorist cyber–attack that is successful, has the
potential to put people at risk, by allowing sensitive information to get into the wrong hands,
disrupting resources, or by altering system information in corporations, to cause harm or confusion.
Since a terroristic attack is focused on causing violence or chaos, the targets at risk would be
"energy sources and electric grids, water and sewer systems, manufacturing, banks, transportation
and communication networks" (Brenner 15). The source of a terrorist cyber–attack can be from a

The Terrorist Attacks of 9/11
The tragic events of September 11, 2001 highlighted the vulnerability to terrorist attacks. The
importance of critical infrastructures to the government, people, and organization can be dependent
on the vulnerability towards a national disasters, manmade hazards, and terrorist attack.
Contemporary standard of what constitutes critical infrastructures has evolved as a wide array of
threats has increased in modern times. Critical infrastructures represent aspects of the economy that
makes the nation function as a whole and protecting America's critical infrastructures and key assets
presents an enormous challenge to the Department of Homeland Security.
Understanding Critical Infrastructures & Key Resources (CIKR)
Critical infrastructures are interdependent on other infrastructures and if one fails the other will also
(Kamien, 2012). For example, transportation is an infrastructure that has a significant linkage
between resources and facilities. The Department of Homeland Security states "The nation's
transportation system quickly, safely, and securely moves people and goods through the country and
overseas." How is transportation critical? A highway/bridge can provide emergency transportation
access to a hospital. Should the bridge collapse, resources are not being reached to the hospital. The
protection of our critical infrastructures is a shared responsibility of state, local, and federal
governments. However, not all infrastructures are critical.

There is more anger in America when 9/11 happened. If I were dressed in a burqa would I be
accused of being a terrorist? Will I be without any rights and be stopped at the airport? Will people

been through is what America needed to see. Not all Muslims or any other race dressed in burqas

history were the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Hundreds of lives were lost, leading to extreme reformation
of the United States surveillance and homeland security systems. The 9/11 terrorist attack was an
important event in America's history that has had lasting effects on American society. On September
11, 2001, four planes were hijacked by 19 Arab Islamist extremists and used as weapons of mass
destruction. The first plane was flown into the North Tower at the World Trade Center in Lower
Manhattan at 8:46AM. The people inside the South Tower were told to remain in the building and
that they had nothing to worry about, a decision proven to be a bad one when a second plane hit the
South Tower at 9:03AM. Both buildings collapsed no more than 90 minutes after the crash with
more than 2,600 people dying that day. At 9:37AM, a third plane hit the Pentagon, killing 125
people and at 10:03 the fourth plane crashed into a field in Southern Pennsylvania, killing 256
people. The fourth plane was originally targeting the White House but its course was interrupted by

Terrorist Attacks: The Power Of Government
Even though we live in a democratic society, we tend to give the government too much power. In the
sovereign country that we live in we see selfishness, and discrimination through our government yet,
we give them the authority to control us. People give power out of fear and the best believe the
government knows that. The government uses propaganda and patriotism to support war effort and
big business to make money. Throughout our history there has been deliberately massacre called
"Terrorist Attacks" to scare our nation and to gain more money and power. For example, both the
9/11 attack and war are being manipulated by the politicians. Our democracy is separated into 3
different branches; Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. It is our duty to see how it works and what
authority each branch of government has over its citizens. There has been issues with the law that
have discriminated and abused the civil rights of citizens. The government uses law enforcement to
control the media and keeping things from us. For example, in the article, "A Wrong Turn in the

September 11, 2001, started as a perfect day, but as the day went on, chaos and terror erupted in the

worst attacks the United States has ever experienced. Many factors made the terrorist attacks of
September 11th a day that is permanently etched into the hearts and minds of Americans. Nineteen
radicals linked to the Islamic terrorist group al–Qaeda gained control over four airplanes and carried
out attacks against targets in the United States on 9/11. (History.com Authors) Their leader, Osama
Bin Laden, and his followers viciously opposed the United States. In al–Qaeda's opinion, the United

interpretation of Islam." Other characteristics of America aggravated the extremist group as well,
including our foreign policy and supporting enemies of al–Qaeda. Because of his hatred of America,
Bin Laden declared a "Jihad, or holy war, against the United States, which he has carried out
through al Qaeda and its affiliated organizations." (Smith) As a result, the United States faced many
violent attacks with the group, including the bombing in 1993 that took place before the attacks on

Another reason the attack could have been avoided is if back then America had better airport
security. Back then pocket knives that were at most four inches long were allowed on board. The
hijackers were able to get multiple knives, tear gas, mace, and similar chemicals. One last reason
why the attack could have been avoided is if Zacarias Moussaoui a person who was involved with
the attack was arrested and FBI members were allowed to search his property. CIA Refusal to Share

This integration of FEMA into the DHS was more than just window dressing because this allowed
true integration between other DHS units. Prior to 9/11 and when FEMA was an independent
agency, the traditional Emergency Management system focused on four mission areas; preparedness,
response, recovery, and mitigation (Gerber, 2016). After integrating into DHS, the Emergency
Management system focused on the traditional four mission areas and added protection as the fifth
mission area (Gerber, 2016). In 2003, these five mission areas were incorporated into Homeland
Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) – 8 and provided authority for the development of the
National Preparedness Goal and, for the first time, defined "first responders" and their role in the
early stages of an incident (Office of the Press Secretary, 2003). These are key points in how the
Federal Government took a strong leadership role and provided guidance on how public safety
entities would prepare and respond to threat incidents in a post–9/11 US.
Any government policy or law must evolve and grow with experience, research, practical
application, and understanding. HSPD–8 was no exception and was replaced by then–President
Obama with PPD–8 in 2011, which renewed the fundamental purposes of HSPD–8 and priority
attention was given to preparedness (Palin, 2011). Another key understanding learned from the
previous ten years was the importance of public–private partnerships, and

Terrorist Attacks On The Cold War

  • 1. Terrorist Attacks On The Cold War After Al–Qaeda's involvement in the Cold War, their planned attacks were a set–up for something bigger: the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11th, 2001. Each terrorist attack got progressively worse in terms of life lost and the amount of lives the attack altered. Each attack got closer in time, going from years apart to months apart. The increase in attacks should have set off alarms as to what was going to happen. The attacks that follow are the ones that were confirmed to have been executed by Al–Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. There are many more attacks that have occurred that evidence suggests could be linked to the terrorist organization but have not but confirmed by the organization. The first attack linked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The attacks in Yemen went unnoticed by many people, including the United States, while the attacks were noted as a success on Al–Qaeda's beliefs. While the attacks did not cause much commotion or gain a lot of attention it shows it was pivotal is showing the change of direction from fighting armies to killing civilians. The second attack occurred on February 26, 1993 carried out in New York, USA. Ramzi Yousef, who later on is known to plan and execute many attacks planned to use a truck bomb on the World Trade Center in New York. Yousef drove the truck under the World Trade Center to the parking garage. He believed the bomb take out Tower One's foundation and knock down Tower Two in the process. If the attack were to go as planned the attack would have killed over 250,000 people. However, the foundation did not break, it shook but remained stable. He succeeded in killing six people and injuring 1,042 others. The third attack, which was intercepted by intelligence and ultimately failed, was an attempt on the life of the United States current President, Bill Clinton. The third attack was to happen in Manila, Philippines engineered by Osama bin Laden. The assassination attempt was intercepted by U.S intelligence minutes before the President's motorcade was to leave. The agents then found a bomb strategically planted under a bridge the President would have had to take. The fourth attacks occurred in August of 1998. Two U.S. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Beslan Terrorist Attack The morning of September 1, 2004, a terrorist group encompassed children, parents, and faculty on the first day of the new school year at School Number One in Beslan, a Russian town in the republic of North Ossetia, and took them captive. This was just the beginning of the three horrific days that were experienced by more than one thousand people held hostage. Chechen separatists stormed the school on Wednesday morning. The standoff lasted until Friday when Russian Special Forces took back the school following a firefight. After the three days of psychological and physical torture, the total carnage left 331 people dead and over 700 people injured. This terrorist attack had left Russia in shambles with the same devastating impact that the 9/11 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, as a result of World War II, the Ingush and Chechens were deported from their ancestral lands and majority of Ingushetia's territory was put into North Ossetia's control. Second, two instances of ethnic cleansing occurred that are found to be relevant to the Beslan attack. One instance involved Ossetian authorities forcing over 30,000 Ingush people from their land. Another was a war between the Russian and the Chechen that resulted in 80,00–100,000 murdered. Third, Vladimir Putin allowed the use of aerial bombing during the second Chechen war. By doing so, approximately 20,000 Chechen and Ingush people were killed and over 300,000 Chechens were driven out of their territory. Overall, the citizens of Chechnya and Ingushetia experienced a number of years filled with trauma and death. The reasons of the Beslan attack are best summarized by two demands given by the terrorists after capturing the hostages. Both demands involved the Ingush and Chechen. In the first demand, the rebel fighters that were captured during the raid in Narzan, led by Basaev, were to be released. The second demand was for President Putin to completely remove Russian troops from Chechnya. The terrorist group placed the blame for Beslan directly onto President Putin and the ... • 9. 9/11 Terrorist Attacks Broadcasted fear and alarming unorganized responses to the 9/11 terrorist attacks lead US policy makers to create the most popular policy affecting homeland security and similar federal agencies. The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (USA Patriot Act) was enacted by President George W. Bush in 2001. In response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Patriot Act was promptly prepared in just six weeks after the attacks. (McCarthy, 2002) Underlying weaknesses of federal agencies was expected to be extinguished by the USA Patriot Act. There is no disbelief that the United States has had historical conflicts with North Korea's dictatorial leaders. Currently there have been passing threats from North Korea's dictatorial leader Kim Jung Un to US president Donald Trump. Using current international approaches to the North Korean nuclear problem–solutions are based on the logic of crime and punishment. "According to this approach, North Korea's crimes – possession of nuclear weapons and violation of UN resolutions – must be punished through forceful, comprehensive sanctions. Such sanctions, the thinking goes, will cause so much discomfort in the North that the regime will be at risk of collapse and Kim Jung Un will be compelled to choose denuclearization (Moon, 2016, pg. 343)." Policy makers ideally want to ensure that foreign policy is perfected to the best of their knowledge and that national security is performing to the best of their ability. "America's main motive has always been denuclearization in line with its nonproliferation policy, especially after post 9/11 security concerns (Petrželová, 2017, pg. 10)." To avoid similar events to 9/11 posed by North Korea, policy makers should allow counterterrorism tactics to be executed as thoroughly as possible. The protection and safety of US citizens should always be a top priority for government agencies and policy makers. Kim Jong Un, North Korea's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Terrorist Attacks On 9 / 11 Abstract The terrorist attacks on 9/11 made a great impact on our nation both economically and psychologically. This paper reviews the findings of some of the research that has been done since this tragic event. A big topic is the initial response our government had after the attack. This includes local, state and federal government. Many new emergency response protocols have been put in place based on the rescue efforts that took place that day. It took the lives of many for our country to understand how real the threat of terrorism is in America. Terrorism is so prevalent in other countries. The United States should have learned from their experiences instead of waiting until after it happened. Furthermore, in this age of terrorism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also had natural resources that they wanted such as natural gas and copper. Jabeen, Mazhar, and Goraya (2010) report that the United States provided military support to Pakistan during this time and did not get directly involved. It was ten years later in 1989 that President Reagan stepped in and made the Soviet Union pay a high military and political price for becoming involved with Afghanistan. A civil war erupted after the Geneva Accords were signed and this brought the Taliban to power. On the morning of September 11, 2001 (9/11), the nation watched in horror as terrorists attacked. Four airplanes were hijacked by members of a terrorist organization called al Qaida. The Twin Towers were targeted successfully by two airplanes. A third airplane had a successful hit into the Pentagon. The fourth airplane was unsuccessful in their attempt to target Washington D.C. The terrorists were overtaken by the passengers and the plane ultimately crashed before getting to the intended target. Americans watched on live television as these events unfolded in disbelief. It became a media race to get to the scene and provide coverage of the events. It is because America witnessed almost every detail that it had such a deep, devastating impact. Americans were terrified and frozen in fear of what was next to come. In October 2001, the United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan (Smith, n.d.) where they successfully took down the Taliban. It wasn't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Threat Of Terrorist Attacks Terrorist attacks similar to the one experienced in 2001 have left a number of Americans concerned over the likelihood of future terrorist attacks and their potential impacts, as well. Such attacks have increased the level of uncertainty regarding what may happen, which only serves to heighten anxiety and stress levels. Weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), which include chemical, biological, and radiological weapons, have increased the likelihood of incidents of terrorism in America (Friedmann, & Cannon, 2009, p. 9). The possibility of terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda employing WMDs against Americans is very real. A WMD may be defined as a weapon that has the capacity to cause grievous harm and/or destruction and death on a grand scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A modern pattern of terrorism seems to lean towards loosely organized and self–financed global networks of terrorist groups. Radical Islamic groups such as Al Qaeda, as well as other religious groups using religion as an excuse, have become a threat to the interests of the United States and other friendly regimes. International terrorism has become a key threat to U.S. domestic and foreign security. The timing and selection of target by terrorists has the potential of affecting America's interests in important areas such as nuclear nonproliferation and the safeguarding of commerce. The increasing political participation of terrorist and extremist parties in foreign countries and the visible growth of cross–national connections among various terrorist organizations have also attracted the attention of the United States. This is because such links usually involve combinations of technology transfer, funding, and military training. The 2001 terrorist attacks served as a catalyst for broad and far–reaching changes in the security efforts of the United States (Friedmann, & Cannon, 2009, p. 16). The attacks led to changes in not only how America would identify and respond to threats, but also its efforts in preventing them, as well. Among the most notable changes was the establishment of the DHS (Department of Homeland Security), which was intended to lead broader homeland security endeavors though the ... • 21. Terrorist Attacks On The United States September 11th, 2001, alleged Al–Qaeda members attacked the United States of America with four passenger planes, Boeing 757s. Two planes flew into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, one plane flew into the Pentagon, and the remaining plane was possibly targeting the White House but was unsuccessful. People all over America felt an utter shock and disbelief after this tragic event as people demanded answers. After the terrorist attacks, a portion of Americans started to believe in conspiracies proving the government was behind it all. To add, Americans also believed that the U.S. government knew in advance of the terrorist attacks on September 11th due to the time between the attacks and the Bush administration's attempt to investigate, the National Security Association's lack of investigation of suspicious phone calls, and the odd "collapse" of World Trade Center Seven. However, the government tried to counter attack with the points that Al Qaeda was behind the attacks on September 11th, Khalid Mohammed was the mastermind behind September 11th, and that debris hit World Trade Center Seven. After the tragedy, the U.S. government believed that Al–Qaeda hijacked the planes used in the attacks. During investigations after the attacks, the FBI found a copy of the Koran–the holy book of Islam–and pilot manuals in a hijacker's car at the Logan International Airport in Boston prior to the attacks. George W.Bush who was the President of the United States of America at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks was against what occurred. George W.Bush talks about the incident as being a monumental day in our nations history, and how he went from being a "President primarily focused on domestic issues to a war time President", something he never anticipated or wanted (27). George W.Bush valued America and it's rights to freedom and believed that whoever was responsible for this act of terrorism is held responsible. His values and beliefs can be seen as a conservatism ideology as he believes terrorists must be stopped and destroyed, he doesn't believe that militant Islamists can peacefully co–exist with the Western world, forever will be on going attacks on America implicated by Islamic terrorists (28). Conservatisms believe that terrorism posses one of the greatest threats to the United States of America (34). • 53. Terrorist Attacks: Weapons Of Mass Destruction After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 the United States became very focused on preventing future attacks and preparing first responders for any future attacks. Al Qaeda was not able to use one of the known weapons of mass destruction (WMD) so they created their own with air planes, fuel, and dedicated followers. Technically, they combined hazards by using a flammable chemical to create a bomb. Terrorist groups in today's world have become creative in their attacks which makes it more difficult to prepare for and respond to attacks. It also increases risk for first responders. • 61. The Terrorist Attacks Of The United States Essay Introduction Living the United State when one thinks of a terrorist attacks often their mind will first go to a larger scale attack such as the events of September 11th 2001. "September 11, 2001 changed the United States forever, the terrorist attack that day marked a dramatic escalation in a trend toward more destructive terrorist attacks which began in the 1980s. It also reflected a trend toward more indiscriminate targeting among international terrorists. The vast majority of the more than 3,000 victims of the attack were civilians. In addition, the attack represented the first known case of suicide attacks carried out by international terrorists in the United States." (Waston, 2002) However as the years have gone by we have come to learn that terrorist attacks are not always on a large scale and that even one person who is inspired by the ideologies of a terrorist group without being directly connected to them can carry out attacks. Those that engage in this type of terrorism are referred to as lone wolf terrorist. A recent example of such an even was the mass shooting at the San Bernardino Inland Regional Center in December of 2015. Synopsis On December 2, 2015 80 employees of the San Bernardino county health department were attending a holiday event. The event was taking place in the convention building at the Inland Regional Center. At around 11 a.m. two shooters with semiautomatic rifles and pistols walked in and opened fire. • 69. The Terrorist Attack on the Twin Towers When September 11 happened, I was too young to understand the gravity of what caused it and what the effects were when it happened. When I was growing up, I started to grasp what happened and understand why certain things about that day were suspicious. Some people believed that terrorists plotted the entire thing, while others believed that the government was completely behind it; I on the other hand was the middle. To this day I believe in evidence, and where there is little or no evidence, I become skeptical. I know that there were planes hitting the Twin Towers because there is video evidence proving it, but what happened with World Trade Center Building 7, the Pennsylvania field crash, and the Pentagon are questionable because there is no sophisticated evidence to prove that terrorists were behind it. Why am I not convinced with what the government says about terrorists attacking the Pentagon? What makes a person doubt what the government tells us, and what makes people believe in conspiracies when there is not enough evidence or lack there of? When the Twin Towers were hit, bystanders claimed to have seen a military plane because it was unmarked and had no windows. In addition to that, researchers looked at the video evidence of the Twin Towers, and what the government investigation papers said to understand how it really happened. But the huge event that has truly shocked Americans was the November 13th attacks on Paris. The attacks on Paris monopolized the media, and soon no one found themselves ignorant of the events that occurred on that Friday the 13th. Slacktivism, a common communication term used to describe taking action on the Internet in support of a cause that requires little time or involvement, is currently a huge topic in today's media. Indeed, many feel that while slacktivism has no immediate danger, it encourages the decline of actual progress on issues (Penney, 2015). Terrorism, also all–too–familiar for millennials, festered and opened up again in way most Americans had not anticipated. Seeing the devastation and quick responses of these attacks led me to analyze American responses to this tragedy. The question But this leads me to my question of why? Why did the Facebook community cover their profile pictures with a French flag? While this question seems like an easily answered one, it was not easy to arrive at. Following the November 13th attacks I found myself at awe of the new media we see in our world today. The way that news covers tragedy is different, and even where people go to for reliable news has changed. I began my search for information at these topics. Later, my mind marveled at social media in the form of YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. These websites were often the source of public opinion on this event. As people witnessed the first and second planes fly into the trade centers, they saw the buildings shatter to pieces, and watched as people desperate to escape from the peril jumped out into the streets below. It was hard to put all of these images behind them. These images affect the way the human mind functions. Humans are a unique species, one that feels sorrow, pain, and loss. The psychological effects of such trauma will affect people for the rest of their lives. The effects of 9/11 did lots of damage as it tore the country apart over racism, but it also brought the people of the United States together. Almost all Americans felt prouder than ever about the country they lived in. Surveys showcased that patriotic feelings were higher than ever before among all ethnic groups. At the current rate in which technology is increasing, establishments must constantly upgrade their system's security. If the national institutions fail to be vigilant to the present day cyber threats, they will become victims of terrorist cyber–attacks. "Our nation's government, military, scientific, commercial and entertainment sectors all operate on the same networks as our adversaries" (Alexander 18). A terrorist cyber–attack that is successful, has the potential to put people at risk, by allowing sensitive information to get into the wrong hands, disrupting resources, or by altering system information in corporations, to cause harm or confusion. Since a terroristic attack is focused on causing violence or chaos, the targets at risk would be "energy sources and electric grids, water and sewer systems, manufacturing, banks, transportation and communication networks" (Brenner 15). The source of a terrorist cyber–attack can be from a foreign government or criminal entities, as well as a disgruntle employee. An example of a disgruntle employee who ... • 117. The Terrorist Attacks of 9/11 The tragic events of September 11, 2001 highlighted the vulnerability to terrorist attacks. The importance of critical infrastructures to the government, people, and organization can be dependent on the vulnerability towards a national disasters, manmade hazards, and terrorist attack. Contemporary standard of what constitutes critical infrastructures has evolved as a wide array of threats has increased in modern times. Critical infrastructures represent aspects of the economy that makes the nation function as a whole and protecting America's critical infrastructures and key assets presents an enormous challenge to the Department of Homeland Security. Understanding Critical Infrastructures & Key Resources (CIKR) Critical infrastructures are interdependent on other infrastructures and if one fails the other will also (Kamien, 2012). For example, transportation is an infrastructure that has a significant linkage between resources and facilities. The Department of Homeland Security states "The nation's transportation system quickly, safely, and securely moves people and goods through the country and overseas." How is transportation critical? A highway/bridge can provide emergency transportation access to a hospital. Should the bridge collapse, resources are not being reached to the hospital. The protection of our critical infrastructures is a shared responsibility of state, local, and federal governments. However, not all infrastructures are critical. An example of a ... In 102 minutes, the world was forever changed by one of the worst attacks the United States has ever experienced. Many factors made the terrorist attacks of September 11th a day that is permanently etched into the hearts and minds of Americans. Nineteen radicals linked to the Islamic terrorist group al–Qaeda gained control over four airplanes and carried out attacks against targets in the United States on 9/11. (History.com Authors) Their leader, Osama Bin Laden, and his followers viciously opposed the United States. In al–Qaeda's opinion, the United States was an "infidel because it was not governed in a manner consistent with the group 's extremist interpretation of Islam." Other characteristics of America aggravated the extremist group as well, including our foreign policy and supporting enemies of al–Qaeda. Because of his hatred of America, Bin Laden declared a "Jihad, or holy war, against the United States, which he has carried out through al Qaeda and its affiliated organizations." (Smith) As a result, the United States faced many violent attacks with the group, including the bombing in 1993 that took place before the attacks on September 11th. CIA Refusal to Share Information with FBI When 9/11 happened, people looked at it as an immediate act on war. George W. This integration of FEMA into the DHS was more than just window dressing because this allowed true integration between other DHS units. Prior to 9/11 and when FEMA was an independent agency, the traditional Emergency Management system focused on four mission areas; preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation (Gerber, 2016). After integrating into DHS, the Emergency Management system focused on the traditional four mission areas and added protection as the fifth mission area (Gerber, 2016). In 2003, these five mission areas were incorporated into Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) – 8 and provided authority for the development of the National Preparedness Goal and, for the first time, defined "first responders" and their role in the early stages of an incident (Office of the Press Secretary, 2003). These are key points in how the Federal Government took a strong leadership role and provided guidance on how public safety entities would prepare and respond to threat incidents in a post–9/11 US. Any government policy or law must evolve and grow with experience, research, practical application, and understanding. HSPD–8 was no exception and was replaced by then–President Obama with PPD–8 in 2011, which renewed the fundamental purposes of HSPD–8 and priority attention was given to preparedness (Palin, 2011).
