4. Lupus is an incurable disease of the immune system – where the antibodies
become over-active and attack the vital organs. Over 50,000 people in the UK
are thought to have the disease, however symptoms can go misdiagnosed for
years.
Lupus is an invisible illness, and the sufferers are often overcome with pain and
fatigue which makes even the simplest of tasks seem physically impossible.
LupusNI was set-up to increase social awareness of the disease, and to ensure
that all doctors receive training in the diagnosis, treatment and care of the
patients.
