Little Shop Review
This evening I went to go see an anomalous play called Little Shop, which struck me as a fantastic
performance put together by the ESU theatre department. The plays setting took place in an area
called "Skid Row", a large city somewhere in the U.S around the early 1960s. The characters
interacted either in the flower shop or outside of the flower shop. The only other scene that takes
place in a different setting is when Seymour attempts to kill Orin at his dentist shop. The area
enclosing around the flower shop hint to have a high unemployment right as many homeless people
appear on stage at a given time in which begging for food and money. As a member of the audience

An issue that I tried to ignore through the play but soon became very trouble sum for me was the
continuous singing that would occur either by the girl group or Seymour. I believe Act I was much
stronger and more enjoyable overall than Act II. Act I opened up with the singing of the girl group
and initially the introduced the main characters of the performance by them interacting with each
other throughout the flower shop. Mr.Mushnik was the owner of the shop while Seymour and
Audrey were employees. Audrey has a black eye from her boyfriend which she continues on to see
which troubles Seymour because he has a crush on her. Mr.Mushnik says he needs to fire them
because they have been getting no busy. Seymour then discovers a plant from a sketchy guy one day
that he believes will draw in the attention of customers if displayed out of the window. Seymour
names the plant Audrey II after the name of his crush Audrey. As soon as he puts the plant out in
display the business starts to bloom. Unfortunately, the plant feeds on fresh human blood which

The Effects Of High Compliance Rate On Municipal City Of...
Research Design and Methodology
4.1Introduction
The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of the high compliance rate in property
taxes in the municipal city of Portmore, Jamaica. Taxes are of essential importance to small
developing countries as they do not have much needed resources. As further developments takes
place in the municipal city property values will increase, hence the amount of property tax collected
by the Portmore municipal council will also increase. This increase however, is not a guarantee that
the tax collection will be sufficient in the maintenance of the community due to the rising cost of
goods and services. Hence continuous voluntary compliance is essential and important as it most
efficient for both the tax payer and the tax authorities.
This section gives the hypothesis or research perspectives, the design of the research and the
methods that were used to gather the data.
4.2 Hypotheses/ Research Perspectives
My research perspective on the Municipal City of Portmore attaining the highest compliance rate
property tax collections in Jamaica are:
That the tax payers have recognised the need and importance of property tax to the community.
The taxpayers are knowledgeable about property tax and the consequences if not paid.
The local authorities are ensuring that the community is well maintained by effectively and
efficiently using the tax collecting in providing services such as timely collection of garbage,
maintaining and

Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish
John Steinbeck suggests that " to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is
normal to himself". Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth
defect, such as a birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world
around them or lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not
visible to others in society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe
case of PTSD after returning from war that causes his actions to seem 'abnormal' to those around
him, even his family. Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the
materialistically obsessed, are difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger's "A Perfect Day for
Bananafish", Salinger depicts how life is for the "monsters" like Seymour in such a materialistic
society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him.
Searching for an escape from such an uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help
before committing to his eventual demise. Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through disdain
before he brings the audience to his heart breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the
emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic and superficial society because society is not
willing to accept those who are different. Salinger begins his short story by depicting a materialistic
society; in turn, he creates

Observation Of Road Race
OPERATION OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE: On December 12, 2016, at 2202 hours, I was
conducting a stationary traffic post in the area of North Crescent Boulevard (Rt130) and Grant
Avenue. While doing so, I observed a dark colored Ford pickup truck disregard the posted stop sign
at the intersection of Grant Avenue and South Crescent Boulevard. The vehicle then continued into
the intersection and struck the concrete center divider which divides the north and south bound lanes
of Crescent Boulevard head–on with great force. See MVA crash report 16–514–A. I then observed
the male driver quickly exit his vehicle and inspect his damaged vehicle, while I communicated with

vehicle in the open driver's side door gathering belongings. The driver also seemed to be oblivious
the danger of the passing traffic as he bent down picking up items in the roadway. Upon noticing my
police vehicle, the driver quickly exited the roadway, and onto the sidewalk. I approached the driver,
later identified as Mr. Michael C. Delp of 10 Drexel Avenue in Stratford, New Jersey, and inquired if
he was injured. Mr. Delp responded that he was injured in the crash and I requested an ambulance
and a tow truck. I then sat Mr. Delp down on the step of 12xx of Grant Avenue while a conducted an
injury assessment. I noted at that time, Mr. Delp's stance to be unsteady and he was having difficulty
standing. While speaking with Mr. Delp in the open air of the night about the crash, I detected an
odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. In addition, I observed Mr. Delp's eyes to
be bloodshot and watery and his speech was slow. Suddenly without warning, Mr. Delp leaped to his
feet and fled running north in the southbound lanes of Crescent Boulevard placing himself in danger
as well as assisting officers, which were know arriving on scene. Mr. Delp continued running in the

A Community Assessment Highlights The Needs Of The Community
A community assessment highlights the needs of the community. The main purpose of this
assessment is to understand the reasons of occurrence of issues and implement methods to reduce
these issues that may rise from those needs. Understanding the conditions of environment in which
members of these community lives in, and how it impacts the members' lives is essential in
providing proper and effective care to their health. I will focus on Queens Community Board One

infrastructures in the five New York City Housing buildings, including Astoria, Queensbridge South

The Minister’s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne
One of literatures greatest quality is allowing the reader's mind to uncover subliminal messages in
an attempt to form their own understandings and ideas. Perhaps, this particular process is commonly
described in the idiom "reading between the lines." While many writers have implanted this literary
aspect into their works, this essay focuses on a specific parable written by Nathaniel Hawthorne
entitled The Minister's Black Veil. Notably, a parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or
spiritual lesson. The characters and setting of which Hawthorne uses to get his point across creates
an overwhelming atmosphere that increases the power of his message. An analysis of Nathaniel
Hawthorne's The Minister's Black Veil offers readers an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this parable, Mr. Hooper gives an invisible element in sin a physical appearance in the black veil
which now makes his sin a connection between himself, God, and the townspeople. It is apparent
that Mr. Hooper is dealing with some sort of internal conflict and his way of confronting his issue is
by covering his face from everyone with the black veil.
Lastly, there are several themes in The Minister's Black Veil relating to topics including sin, guilt,
fear, and judgment. The first theme focuses on people's reaction to change. Soon after Mr. Hooper
covers his face, people secluded themselves from him and gave him bewildered stares even after he
showed them courtesy. Likewise, his wife Elizabeth left him after she failed to persuade him to
abandon the black veil. The narrator also explains how Mr. Hooper created a group of converts as
well as how people at their deathbed would not take their last breath until they received consolation
from Mr. Hooper. Strangers began to travel from long distances just to hear his sermons and gaze at
his figure. Another theme found in The Minister's Black Veil is that people fear what they do not
know and do not understand. The mystery of the black veil perhaps was the biggest thing that
intimidated the townspeople. Mr. Hooper is overcome with the same horror as the townspeople
when he catches a glimpse of himself. In an attempt to solve the mystery of the black veil, the
townspeople past judgment and create

The Road To Winter Character Analysis Essay
Mark Smith's novel 'The Road to Winter' explores the behaviours of characters after their
experiences of loss, and their ability to persevere whilst trying to continue to act to their own ethical
principles. The protagonist of the novel, Finn, is one of the many who have lost their family and
way of life to the deadly disease that has ravaged the world, yet has managed to survive without
much external help and relative isolation. Whilst he has managed to keep his benevolent nature,
others have not been as lucky and have grown bitter throughout their trauma, weakening their
morality and beliefs. Finn no longer has a family to care or provide for him, but despite his struggle
for sufficient resources he still assists Rose when she's being hunted by Ramage and his men. This

Barnes, separately, had commenced proceedings in the District Court of NSW. Both proceedings
were transferred to the Federal Court and heard with the proceedings issued by the ACCC. The
judgment on this case was delivered on February 27, 1998 six years after Australia passed a
statutory code dealing with defective goods in 1992 sixty years after the verdict on the Donoghue v
Stevenson's case. The ACCC sought orders restraining Glendale from engaging in conduct contrary
to Section 52 which states that a corporation shall not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that
is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive. The action brought by the ACCC
against Glendale based on Section 52 and 53(c) of the Act was unsuccessful. There was insufficient
evidence to demonstrate that Barnes did understand the label to constitute a representation in the
form suggested. It was found that Glendale was negligent and in all circumstances, it was
considered there was a duty on Glendale to include in the packaging a warning as to the
consequences of using corrosive product with hot water in a confined space such as a drain. There
was no specific defect with the caustic soda but the issue is whether it was defective within the
meaning of Section 75AC. It was found by the court the label to be defective within the meaning of
section 75AC. It was argued on behalf of Glendale that the damages should be reduced based on the
fact that Barnes

Analysis: Dogville
I analysen
undersøges denne tese, og i diskussionen holdes filmens form op imod dens indhold. Rapporten

personal vs. professional situations that may arise. In certain situations, it would be wise of the
practitioner to broach the boundary issues with the client as early in their relationship as possible
and discuss reasonable ways of handling potentially awkward circumstances in a manner that both
find comfortable and in a way that protects the client's interests to the greatest extent possible

Crusher And The Black Death
Wreaking havoc throughout Europe, The Black Death was a destructive plague that left over twenty
million dead in its track. Despite the atrocious consequences of this disease, it yielded a favourable
aftermath such as the stability of the European population and the increase in demand for work
(Damen, 2015). Similarly to The Black Death, the novel Crusher by Niall Leonard shows that
positive outcomes often appear from situations that may seem negative. The protagonist of the
novel, Finn Maguire, finds himself as the prime suspect in the murder investigation of his father,
Noel. The murder of Finn's father and his pursuit to clear his name reflect the notion that there are
trials that appear bitter to the core which are often blessings in disguise. As a result of Noel's
murder, Finn forms a passionate relationship with a girl named Zoe, reconnects with his mother, and
obtains a grand inheritance from Noel's friend.
Meeting Zoe is one of the positive things that happen to Finn as a result of his father's murder
investigation. Their paths intersect when Finn is gathering information about Noel from his friends.
Zoe and Finn are the first person in each other's lives that reciprocate the love and affection they
have to offer. Unlike Zoe, Noel fails to deliver the In Noel's case, his drinking addiction and naive
optimism of reviving his acting job leave Finn as the caregiving figure and the one responsible for
paying most of the bills, struggling to make financial ends meet.

Effective Methods Of Becoming A Paperless Organization
Being ecofriendly has become a target for most hospitality related fields. Increasingly, consumers
have become aware of the impact of unsustainable business practices that, many argue, contribute to
global warming and harm nature. It has even become a criterion that refines a search for hotels and
hence many hotels are trying to alter their business practices, by making them more ecofriendly.
Going "paperless" means that an organization decides to stop using so many printed items and
would rather opt for an electronic version. Whether that is a receipt you get from a restaurant or an
invoice from a hotel it is all sent via email. Some hotels and restaurants in the hospitality industry
have found alternative techniques, as opposed to using paper. This essay will examine different
methods used by certain organizations, which have been proven as effective methods of becoming a
paperless organization. These include The Hilton hotels and even more specifically, The Waldorf
Astoria. In terms of restaurants, El Monumento is a privately owned restaurant in Texas, that
employ's paperless services. Furthermore, the large franchise, Chilis offers some paperless services
as a way of improving their service. The reasons these companies decided to go paperless will be
highlighted within this essay. When it comes to leaving behind the old tradition of printing
everything, some owners may be skeptical. Go Paperless Solutions Inc. is an organization who's

Hunterdon County Essay
Hunterdon county is a New Jersey is not known for much. It has about twenty–seven towns and is
located in central New Jersey. There are no big cities or any sports teams. It is mostly a rural county
with tons of farms and woods. There is not much to do for the younger generation. Everything is a
good drive away. For me the beach, New York City, and Philadelphia are all about a one hour drive
away from me. Many people leave Hunterdon after college because they want to start their lives and

Maybe all the people wanted to leave Hunterdon to find better jobs. For the towns that are really
dark in map four got hired right out of college and have enough money to live in Hunterdon but for
the towns that had a lot of jobs in map three but got worse in map four they could have found better
jobs somewhere else or maybe it just did not work out. I know from living there that it is not the
cheapest place to live. It is the fourth most expensive county in the nation and with college being so
expensive, people are not making enough right out of college to live in Hunterdon. The difference
between the two maps is insane. If you look at all four of these maps it makes sense that people all
these people are leaving. If you are fifteen you are obviously still going to be living with your

Critique Of The Waldorf Astoria
When you hear the name Waldorf Astoria, the image of a spectacular and grand hotel instantly
comes to mind. A place of dapper gentlemen and regal ladies dashing about without a care in the
world. One envisions men in tux and tails and women in sequined dresses off to a gala as they did in
1900s when the Waldorf and the Astoria hotels opened in New York City. The Waldorf Astoria Ras
al Khaimah is such a regal place. A regal and grand resort that provides the finest luxury travel
experience one could desire.
The Waldorf Astoria Ras al Khaimah is an absolute masterpiece created as a refuge from the brutal
heat of the Arab desert as well as an escape from the bitter cold of winters in Europe and America.

Operation Of The Motor Vehicle
OPERATION OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE: On February 14, 2016 at 2250 hours, I responded to
the intersection of Crescent Boulevard and Wilson Avenue for a report of hit and run motor vehicle
crash. Prior to my arrival, I was notified by Central Communications that a witness followed the
fleeing vehicle north on Route 130. The witness was able to flag down Officer Cordero #562 of the
Camden County Metro Police in the parking lot of the Save–a–Lot, located at 2780 Mt. Ephraim
Avenue, in Camden City. At this time, the driver was being detained for my arrival, while Sergeant
Blanchard responded to the accident scene to check for injuries.
Upon my arrival, I spoke with the witness, Mr. Sergio Cumba. He related that he was traveling north
on Crescent Boulevard behind the white Dodge Ram as they approached the intersection of Wilson
Avenue with a red traffic signal. Mr. Cumba then related that suddenly, the driver of the Dodge did
not brake for the red traffic signal. Instead, the driver squeezed between two vehicles, which were
stopped in the right and left lanes of north Crescent Boulevard. Upon doing so, Mr. Cumba related
that driver of the Dodge collided with both vehicle, disregarded to red traffic sign and fled north on
Crescent Boulevard at a high rate of speed. Mr. Cumba related that he was able to follow the fleeing
vehicle until it pulled into the Save–a–Lot parking lot and Officer Cordero was flagged down.
I then spoke to Officer Cordero who related that while detaining the

The Road To Winter Analysis
The Road to Winter – Topic 3
Mark Smith's, The Road to Winter (2016), charts the narrative of Australian teenager, Finn, who has
survived a virus that has wiped out the majority of his town. Finn is forced to survive, protecting
himself from the violent gangs in the North on his own, following the death of his parents. With
survival being the main theme of the novel, the characters in The Road to Winter exhibit their
exceptional and awful capabilities when their survival is threatened. Despite characters living in
seclusion, they will go to any means to protect their own survival. Furthermore, when Finn, Rose or
Kas' lives are threatened, alternate characters will rise to their assistance, completing formidable acts
of bravery to save them. Finally, Ramage displays his awful capabilities, threatening others survival,
if his own leadership is jeopardised.
With characters in the novel living in hiding as a result of the constant threat that the Wilder's pose,
they need to abandon their seclusion to protect their own lives, despite the possible fatalities. When
Finn is first introduced in the novel, he is living a life of secrecy, demonstrated through his first
encounter with Ray when Finn "was so shocked to hear another voice". It is furthermore emphasised
with the unexpected arrival of Rose, forcing Finn to come out of the shadows and stand up to the
Wilders. When Finn is away from home looking for Kas, Rose must make her way to Ray's house,
where she is

What I Learned About My Time
When I walked into class and saw this daunting project sitting on my desk, I was in shock. No
teacher has ever asked me to do an assignment requiring the level of work that this portfolio
required. While no one component seemed too difficult, all of them together seemed impossible.
However, in reflection I see that this portfolio was only as difficult as I sought to make it; if I
approached each section with an open mind, a plan, and a schedule, it was rather easy to complete
this assignment.
While completing this portfolio, I had to learn how to manage my time. Now, as I am typing this
over a week before this project is due, I am glad I did not procrastinate as many of my peers did.
Most of them are still scrambling to finish with the deadline fast approaching. I also learned more
than I imagined I would about our government, especially in the projects concerning local
government. I knew that local government was important, but did not realize the magnitude of its
impact on daily life. The actions of local representatives affect the quality of roads, the tax we pay
on meals, the cost of water and electricity, the number of teachers in school, the amount of supplies
those teachers have, and what recreational and community opportunities are available to our
community. Attending the government meetings and interviewing local leaders provided the most
insight into governmental workings. Talking with Mayor Coleburn taught me that the mayor does
not "run the town" like

Essay A Decision Made
Across the period of one's life, decisions are made, consequences are endured, and rewards are
accepted. In most instances, one does not think before they act on possible actions or decisions;
however it is the rare few that do think, and do realize the cause and effect of decisions about to be
made.
Margaret Sanger was an advocate for women's rights, a nurse, a feminist, and most important she
offered women information about contraceptives, something that was relatively hidden from many
women in the early 1900's. Margaret Sanger may have single handily changed the fact that "women
would achieve personal freedom by experiencing their sexuality free of consequence" (Margaret
Sanger, 1).
As a nurse she saw failed abortions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" had a decision made by Fraquhar that knowingly went
against the opposing side of where he stood. Like Sanger who went against Comstock laws,
Fraquhar interfered with troops. Although Fraquhar knew his punishment would be death if caught,
he was willing to risk it, and eventually was put to death because of his actions. Sanger also knew
going against Comstock could result in possible jail time, which she did receive for her actions.
In "The Censors," Juan knowingly risked being caught by becoming a censor, in hopes of getting his
letter through to his loved one. Although he knew what would happen if he was caught smuggling
his letter in, he was more then willing to take the risk. Juan's boss acknowledged his hard work,
"soon he was moved to section E where he was now reading and analyzing letter contents, his work
became so absorbing that his original purpose for being a censor was blurred (Valenzuela, 653).
While he excelled, he one day came across his letter to Marina, but without reading it, tossed it into
the censored pile, causing his death the very next morning. The theory that giving someone a little
power can eventually lead to destruction is evident in Juan's case. Although Sanger wasn't given
power, she made people knew who she was, and she was empowering women. She strived to get
information out, create an oral contraceptive, and have a place that women could eventually go to.
She dedicated

Why Syl Hates Christmas
I don't know if I want to title this story "How I spent my Christmas Vacation" or "Why Syl Hates
Christmas" or "The Gift that Keeps on Giving". Please read on and help me out. This story actually
started many years ago. Sylvio's ex–wife Richelle invited Denise and me to a silent auction in
Haddon Heights. It was for the benefit of the Haddon Heights Ballet Company and was held in the
home of one of her rich friends. Spread throughout the house were paintings, sculptures, prints and
drawings, all donate by local artists. As we walked around the house eating hors d'oeuvres and
sipping wine, I was also busy writing Sly's name under a couple dozen pieces of art. At the end of
the night, Syl had been outbid on all the items except one. He was shocked when they called his
name. Syl was the high bidder on a small sculpture that I would best describe as bizarre. The
sculpture was of a human hand, palm up, with fingers spread apart on a rocky base. It was about five
inches high, seven inches wide and seven inches deep. It was not anatomically correct but it was
definitely a hand. Oh yeah, it was dark blue with streaks of gold. A truly bizarre piece. Syl got the
joke. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Syl told me that when he opened the Christmas present, he unwrapped the box with The Hand in it
but never opened the box. The box was in such pristine condition that he assumed that it contained a
brand new outdoor spotlight fixture. He thought, "Why is he sending me a spotlight fixture?" and
then passed it off as between the two of us we have sent each other some strange shit on Christmas.
Once I sent him a copy of "Gone With the Wind" that was hollowed out to hold a handgun. I figured
that every house in the South should have a copy of "Gone With the Wind" and every house in the
South already has a gun. Oh yeah, I need to tell you that Syl and Ronda live in a house that is not
quite in the Deep South and is not quite a plantation but is close to being

I am applying for the position of Class Executive because I am interested in helping our class of
2020, create our own story. I want to help to organize events and help to monitor any official or

events or anything asked of them. I also am very interested in the government and helping to lead
our global studies class. The past three years, I have been apart of my middle school, Dwight D.

I have the drive and passion to lead our class into four years of fun and success. I am extremely
passionate about local government and helping others to create a hardworking community.
Perseverance applies directly to me because I am a very hard worker. I am determined to help
others, and when I get a task I make sure it is complete with my best effort. No matter how easy or
difficult a task is, my work will reflect on a passionate and hardworking effort. I value collaboration
because without getting along as a team member, family member, or executive board memeber
things get very unorganized. As a team member you need to collaborate and work together with your
team to pass and shoot and win. As a family member in order to make sure the house is clean and all
chores are done, you need to help each other in order to make the task easier and done more quickly.
In terms of the executive board I will make sure to implement these values by making sure I
surround myself with people who are passionate about what they do. Having passion also means
having drive as if you are not passionate about what you are doing, your drive will not be strong. I
will make sure to also be on top of what I do show how passionate I truly am. I will model
perseverance by working hard and making sure everything is done on time and with my best effort. I
will model collaboration by making sure to discuss with my peers and administrators before making

Lost Our Homes Pet Foundation (LOH)
The name of the community that I researched is Lost Our Homes Pet Foundation(LOH). It is located
on 2323 South Hardy Drive in Tempe, Arizona. L.O.H. was founded in 2008 when the founder, Jodi
Polanski, wanted to have a world in which all pets have loving homes and are treated with respect.
Now, that is the vision and purpose of L.O.H. The mission of L.O.H. is to ensure that all pets have
loving homes when families face major life changes and have to give up their pets. L.O.H. also is
striving to have no pets living on the streets. They are making as much effort as they can to rescue
any stray animals they find. L.O.H. will give medical care and shots to those animals if needed.
When the cat/dog is back to health, L.O.H. will put the cat/dog in a room with other cats/dogs in the
same age group. The rooms are almost always clean and well kept by volunteers. IMPORTANT:
Lost Our Homes Pet Foundation is a non–kill animal shelter. It does not and will never kill any
animals even if there is a overpopulation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Narrative Essay On The Island
"Astoria!" His cries echoed. The bounced off of the long brick corridors and along the panels of
glass that encompassed the walls on his left. "Astoria!!" Fish swam on the other side of the glass
emitting bubbles, as if mocking his pleas. The queen stood across the castle, both hands placed on
the huge cold bricks. Her head hung low leaving about a centimeter of space between her and the
wall. She listened to his calls, each one filled itself with more desperation and urgency than the last.
Yet, Astoria didn't flinch. The castle was huge and, for the most part, built underwater. It was what
most people may refer to as the most city of Atlantis. The only lighting was provided by randomly
placed candles that, after years of use, had layered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the dead silence. They both knew the answer. "Please...." He pleaded with her. She found herself in

hardly ashamed. "He's dead because of me! Can't you see that!?" She practically hissed, "And I

She exclaimed with shame. Confusion filled his face before he took one slow step forward, he
obviously didn't get the message. Panicked, Astoria spun around and ran out of the room and down
the nearest hall. Draco's trance broke as he rushed after Astoria, catching her by the arm and
spinning her around. "Would you stop bloody running from me!?" He snarled. She fought to get
free, avoiding eye contact. His grip tightened while he reached to grab her other arm and hold her
steady. "Draco let go!" She pounded on his chest the best she could. He refused her order, "No." She

Theme Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish
American Society's Materialism in "A Perfect Day For Bananafish" J.D Salinger believes society
turns each and every person into bananafish. In his short story A Perfect Day For Bananafish he
expresses some of his views on the American society and the problems that he has with it. He
believes Americans put too much value in material possessions and that their lives, shaped by a
constant bombardment of advertisements and new products that are bigger and better than the last,
are harmful to them, and the people around them. Salinger uses his short story A Perfect Day for
Bananafish to represent the materialism and consumerism of American society.
Salinger sets the scene for materialism from the very beginning by dedicating the first and most
important sentence of his short story to New York advertising men. The first sentence of a story is
the hook and what makes people want to read further and figure out what happens so it is not spent
lightly. Salinger uses his first sentence here to tell the reader that there are "..ninety seven New York
advertising men in the hotel, and, the way they were monopolizing the long distance lines, the girl in
507 had to wait from noon till almost two thirty to get her call through."(pg1). This is extremely
important and says a lot about the purpose of the story and what it was written for. The fact that it
was also placed right at the beginning of the story only adds to its significance. Ninety seven
advertising men are staying in this resort hotel in Florida and are calling out long distance,
presumably doing there job and still working. They value their job and the money and possessions it
brings so much that they can't take the time to appreciate what they already have and enjoy their
vacation.
Salinger goes on to talk about what Muriel did while waiting for her phone to ring and using it as an
example of the effects society can have on a person's personality. He says "She used the time,
though. She read an article in a woman's pocket sized magazine, called "Sex Is Fun–or Hell."She
washed her comb and brush." and that "She tweezed two freshly surfaced hairs from her mole."
(pg1). These actions portray Muriel as a very vane and materialistic person. Though normal people

  • 3. Little Shop Review This evening I went to go see an anomalous play called Little Shop, which struck me as a fantastic performance put together by the ESU theatre department. The plays setting took place in an area called "Skid Row", a large city somewhere in the U.S around the early 1960s. The characters interacted either in the flower shop or outside of the flower shop. The only other scene that takes place in a different setting is when Seymour attempts to kill Orin at his dentist shop. The area enclosing around the flower shop hint to have a high unemployment right as many homeless people appear on stage at a given time in which begging for food and money. An issue that I tried to ignore through the play but soon became very trouble sum for me was the continuous singing that would occur either by the girl group or Seymour. Mr.Mushnik was the owner of the shop while Seymour and Audrey were employees. Audrey has a black eye from her boyfriend which she continues on to see which troubles Seymour because he has a crush on her. Mr.Mushnik says he needs to fire them because they have been getting no busy. Seymour then discovers a plant from a sketchy guy one day that he believes will draw in the attention of customers if displayed out of the window. • 5. The Effects Of High Compliance Rate On Municipal City Of... Research Design and Methodology 4.1Introduction The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of the high compliance rate in property taxes in the municipal city of Portmore, Jamaica. Taxes are of essential importance to small developing countries as they do not have much needed resources. As further developments takes place in the municipal city property values will increase, hence the amount of property tax collected by the Portmore municipal council will also increase. This increase however, is not a guarantee that the tax collection will be sufficient in the maintenance of the community due to the rising cost of goods and services. Hence continuous voluntary compliance is essential and important as it most efficient for both the tax payer and the tax authorities. This section gives the hypothesis or research perspectives, the design of the research and the methods that were used to gather the data. 4.2 Hypotheses/ Research Perspectives My research perspective on the Municipal City of Portmore attaining the highest compliance rate property tax collections in Jamaica are: That the tax payers have recognised the need and importance of property tax to the community. The taxpayers are knowledgeable about property tax and the consequences if not paid. The local authorities are ensuring that the community is well maintained by effectively and efficiently using the tax collecting in providing services such as timely collection of garbage, maintaining and ... • 10. Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish John Steinbeck suggests that " to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to himself". Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after returning from war that causes his actions to seem 'abnormal' to those around him, even his family. Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the materialistically obsessed, are difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger's "A Perfect Day for Bananafish", Salinger depicts how life is for the "monsters" like Seymour in such a materialistic society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him. Searching for an escape from such an uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help before committing to his eventual demise. Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through disdain before he brings the audience to his heart breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic and superficial society because society is not willing to accept those who are different. Salinger begins his short story by depicting a materialistic society; in turn, he creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Observation Of Road Race OPERATION OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE: On December 12, 2016, at 2202 hours, I was conducting a stationary traffic post in the area of North Crescent Boulevard (Rt130) and Grant Avenue. While doing so, I observed a dark colored Ford pickup truck disregard the posted stop sign at the intersection of Grant Avenue and South Crescent Boulevard. The vehicle then continued into the intersection and struck the concrete center divider which divides the north and south bound lanes of Crescent Boulevard head–on with great force. • 16. The Minister’s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne One of literatures greatest quality is allowing the reader's mind to uncover subliminal messages in an attempt to form their own understandings and ideas. Perhaps, this particular process is commonly described in the idiom "reading between the lines." While many writers have implanted this literary aspect into their works, this essay focuses on a specific parable written by Nathaniel Hawthorne entitled The Minister's Black Veil. Notably, a parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. The characters and setting of which Hawthorne uses to get his point across creates an overwhelming atmosphere that increases the power of his message. In this parable, Mr. Hooper gives an invisible element in sin a physical appearance in the black veil which now makes his sin a connection between himself, God, and the townspeople. It is apparent that Mr. Hooper is dealing with some sort of internal conflict and his way of confronting his issue is by covering his face from everyone with the black veil. Lastly, there are several themes in The Minister's Black Veil relating to topics including sin, guilt, fear, and judgment. The first theme focuses on people's reaction to change. Soon after Mr. Hooper covers his face, people secluded themselves from him and gave him bewildered stares even after he showed them courtesy. Likewise, his wife Elizabeth left him after she failed to persuade him to abandon the black veil. The narrator also explains how Mr. Hooper created a group of converts as well as how people at their deathbed would not take their last breath until they received consolation from Mr. Hooper. Strangers began to travel from long distances just to hear his sermons and gaze at his figure. Another theme found in The Minister's Black Veil is that people fear what they do not know and do not understand. The mystery of the black veil perhaps was the biggest thing that intimidated the townspeople. Mr. Hooper is overcome with the same horror as the townspeople when he catches a glimpse of himself. The Road To Winter Character Analysis Essay Mark Smith's novel 'The Road to Winter' explores the behaviours of characters after their experiences of loss, and their ability to persevere whilst trying to continue to act to their own ethical principles. The protagonist of the novel, Finn, is one of the many who have lost their family and way of life to the deadly disease that has ravaged the world, yet has managed to survive without much external help and relative isolation. Whilst he has managed to keep his benevolent nature, others have not been as lucky and have grown bitter throughout their trauma, weakening their morality and beliefs. Barnes, separately, had commenced proceedings in the District Court of NSW. Both proceedings were transferred to the Federal Court and heard with the proceedings issued by the ACCC. The judgment on this case was delivered on February 27, 1998 six years after Australia passed a statutory code dealing with defective goods in 1992 sixty years after the verdict on the Donoghue v Stevenson's case. The ACCC sought orders restraining Glendale from engaging in conduct contrary to Section 52 which states that a corporation shall not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive. The action brought by the ACCC against Glendale based on Section 52 and 53(c) of the Act was unsuccessful. There was insufficient evidence to demonstrate that Barnes did understand the label to constitute a representation in the form suggested. It was found that Glendale was negligent and in all circumstances, it was considered there was a duty on Glendale to include in the packaging a warning as to the consequences of using corrosive product with hot water in a confined space such as a drain. There was no specific defect with the caustic soda but the issue is whether it was defective within the meaning of Section 75AC. It was found by the court the label to be defective within the meaning of section 75AC. It was argued on behalf of Glendale that the damages should be reduced based on the fact that Barnes ... The workers will have to deal with how to be professional not to breach any information about other patients. They will also have to deal with personal vs. professional situations that may arise. In certain situations, it would be wise of the practitioner to broach the boundary issues with the client as early in their relationship as possible and discuss reasonable ways of handling potentially awkward circumstances in a manner that both find comfortable and in a way that protects the client's interests to the greatest extent possible (Frederic G. Despite the atrocious consequences of this disease, it yielded a favourable aftermath such as the stability of the European population and the increase in demand for work (Damen, 2015). Similarly to The Black Death, the novel Crusher by Niall Leonard shows that positive outcomes often appear from situations that may seem negative. The protagonist of the novel, Finn Maguire, finds himself as the prime suspect in the murder investigation of his father, Noel. The murder of Finn's father and his pursuit to clear his name reflect the notion that there are trials that appear bitter to the core which are often blessings in disguise. As a result of Noel's murder, Finn forms a passionate relationship with a girl named Zoe, reconnects with his mother, and obtains a grand inheritance from Noel's friend. Meeting Zoe is one of the positive things that happen to Finn as a result of his father's murder investigation. Their paths intersect when Finn is gathering information about Noel from his friends. Increasingly, consumers have become aware of the impact of unsustainable business practices that, many argue, contribute to global warming and harm nature. It has even become a criterion that refines a search for hotels and hence many hotels are trying to alter their business practices, by making them more ecofriendly. Going "paperless" means that an organization decides to stop using so many printed items and would rather opt for an electronic version. Some hotels and restaurants in the hospitality industry have found alternative techniques, as opposed to using paper. This essay will examine different methods used by certain organizations, which have been proven as effective methods of becoming a paperless organization. After one year of competition the team folded. Cooper revealed that there was not enough student interested from the 135 students enrolled at RSD. Cooper noted that the communication between the mentors and the students was difficult because there were only two interpreters for the entire team. He went on to say that the interpreters did not have engineering or technical expertise so this was another factor that made it difficult in the communication process. The interview also revealed that there were communication issues at the Finger Lakes Regional at RIT. There are no big cities or any sports teams. It is mostly a rural county with tons of farms and woods. There is not much to do for the younger generation. Everything is a good drive away. For me the beach, New York City, and Philadelphia are all about a one hour drive away from me. Many people leave Hunterdon after college because they want to start their lives and these maps are showing that many chose not to do that in Hunterdon. If you look at map four the map looks a lot darker but if you look at the legand the highest it goes is under five hundred. This is showing that careers are extremely hard to find in Hunterdon. Maybe all the people wanted to leave Hunterdon to find better jobs. For the towns that are really dark in map four got hired right out of college and have enough money to live in Hunterdon but for the towns that had a lot of jobs in map three but got worse in map four they could have found better jobs somewhere else or maybe it just did not work out. I know from living there that it is not the cheapest place to live. It is the fourth most expensive county in the nation and with college being so expensive, people are not making enough right out of college to live in Hunterdon. The difference between the two maps is insane. If you look at all four of these maps it makes sense that people all these people are leaving. If you are fifteen you are obviously still going to be living with your parents and when you just get out of college you will still live with them until you get enough money and have to move out. No teacher has ever asked me to do an assignment requiring the level of work that this portfolio required. While no one component seemed too difficult, all of them together seemed impossible. However, in reflection I see that this portfolio was only as difficult as I sought to make it; if I approached each section with an open mind, a plan, and a schedule, it was rather easy to complete this assignment. While completing this portfolio, I had to learn how to manage my time. Now, as I am typing this over a week before this project is due, I am glad I did not procrastinate as many of my peers did. Most of them are still scrambling to finish with the deadline fast approaching. I also learned more than I imagined I would about our government, especially in the projects concerning local government. I knew that local government was important, but did not realize the magnitude of its impact on daily life. The actions of local representatives affect the quality of roads, the tax we pay on meals, the cost of water and electricity, the number of teachers in school, the amount of supplies those teachers have, and what recreational and community opportunities are available to our community. Attending the government meetings and interviewing local leaders provided the most insight into governmental workings. In most instances, one does not think before they act on possible actions or decisions; however it is the rare few that do think, and do realize the cause and effect of decisions about to be made. Margaret Sanger was an advocate for women's rights, a nurse, a feminist, and most important she offered women information about contraceptives, something that was relatively hidden from many women in the early 1900's. Margaret Sanger may have single handily changed the fact that "women would achieve personal freedom by experiencing their sexuality free of consequence" (Margaret Sanger, 1). Like Sanger who went against Comstock laws, Fraquhar interfered with troops. Although Fraquhar knew his punishment would be death if caught, he was willing to risk it, and eventually was put to death because of his actions. Sanger also knew going against Comstock could result in possible jail time, which she did receive for her actions. In "The Censors," Juan knowingly risked being caught by becoming a censor, in hopes of getting his letter through to his loved one. Although he knew what would happen if he was caught smuggling his letter in, he was more then willing to take the risk. Juan's boss acknowledged his hard work, "soon he was moved to section E where he was now reading and analyzing letter contents, his work became so absorbing that his original purpose for being a censor was blurred (Valenzuela, 653). While he excelled, he one day came across his letter to Marina, but without reading it, tossed it into the censored pile, causing his death the very next morning. The theory that giving someone a little power can eventually lead to destruction is evident in Juan's case. It was for the benefit of the Haddon Heights Ballet Company and was held in the home of one of her rich friends. Spread throughout the house were paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings, all donate by local artists. As we walked around the house eating hors d'oeuvres and sipping wine, I was also busy writing Sly's name under a couple dozen pieces of art. At the end of the night, Syl had been outbid on all the items except one. He was shocked when they called his name. Syl was the high bidder on a small sculpture that I would best describe as bizarre. The sculpture was of a human hand, palm up, with fingers spread apart on a rocky base. It was about five inches high, seven inches wide and seven inches deep. • 56. Theme Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish American Society's Materialism in "A Perfect Day For Bananafish" J.D Salinger believes society turns each and every person into bananafish. In his short story A Perfect Day For Bananafish he expresses some of his views on the American society and the problems that he has with it. He believes Americans put too much value in material possessions and that their lives, shaped by a constant bombardment of advertisements and new products that are bigger and better than the last, are harmful to them, and the people around them. Salinger uses his short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish to represent the materialism and consumerism of American society. Salinger sets the scene for materialism from the very beginning by dedicating the first and most important sentence of his short story to New York advertising men. The first sentence of a story is the hook and what makes people want to read further and figure out what happens so it is not spent lightly. Salinger uses his first sentence here to tell the reader that there are "..ninety seven New York advertising men in the hotel, and, the way they were monopolizing the long distance lines, the girl in 507 had to wait from noon till almost two thirty to get her call through."(pg1). This is extremely important and says a lot about the purpose of the story and what it was written for. The fact that it was also placed right at the beginning of the story only adds to its significance. Ninety seven advertising men are staying in this resort hotel in Florida and are calling out long distance, presumably doing there job and still working. They value their job and the money and possessions it brings so much that they can't take the time to appreciate what they already have and enjoy their vacation. Salinger goes on to talk about what Muriel did while waiting for her phone to ring and using it as an example of the effects society can have on a person's personality. He says "She used the time, though. She read an article in a woman's pocket sized magazine, called "Sex Is Fun–or Hell."She washed her comb and brush." and that "She tweezed two freshly surfaced hairs from her mole." (pg1). These actions portray Muriel as a very vane and materialistic person. Though normal people do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
