Cooing - 0 to4 months
Babbling - 5 to12 months
One word utterance - 9 to 18 months

3. NEWBORNS
They can localize a sound to their right
or left side
Shortly after being born and will turn
their head or look in the direction of a
sound
They can also begin to smile
spontaneously and in response to
someone by 1month
Infants learn to recognize their parents
by 1-2 months
4. BY 3 MONTHS
Baby should hold an eye
contact
They should turn there
head towards sound
They be quite or smile in
response to your voice
Other than crying they
make cooing sounds
5. BY 6 MONTHS
Baby begin to imitate
speech sounds
They make isolated
sounds with vowels
(BA,DA,GA,GOO etc)
They generally use
babbling to get
attention
Monosyllabic babbling
6. BY 9 MONTHS
Polysyllabic babbling or
repeating vowels like
(BABABA , LALALA ,
MAMAMA)
They generally add new
sounds when babbling and
looking at people and
familiar objects like (teddy ,
ball)
Many infants can follow a
one step command with a
gesture
For example: asking for an
object
7. BY 12MONTHS
They use mama (or) dada to call
mom (or) dad
Respond to simple directions
like: come here and go there
They will be attentive to the
sounds
Remember names of common
objects like (ball , dog etc)
They use voice to relate to the
environment
They repeat sounds that parents
make
Startle in response to a loud
noise
8. 18 MONTHS
They identify body parts
Understand simple
words like YES and NO
They can include
phrases like ‘want milk’
and ‘more juice’
They can able to say the
simple names of family
members and pet
names
9. 2 TO 3YEARS
Ask two words questions
like ‘where`s daddy’
They should start
playing with other
children's and get
interacted
A vocabulary spurt
leading to 50 to 500
words occurs
10. Before they start speaking firstly they start developing
their communication skills
They are two types
1. Receptive skills
2. Expressive skills
These both are developed by
watching and imitating their
parents

during developmental stage

baby cries or coos or even if they r
trying to communicate with you
