This document provides instructions for an annotated bibliography assignment for an English 102 summer course. Students must write a description of their social justice research topic, develop 3 potential research questions, and find 10 credible sources on their topic that include at least 2 opposing viewpoints and 4 different types of sources. They need to create an MLA works cited entry for each source and a 1-2 sentence description of each. The compiled description, works cited entries, and sources must be uploaded to the class learning platform by the given deadline to earn a B grade on the assignment.

Annotated Bibliography Research Assignment
We will be creating an annotated bibliography in this class for the social justice research
topic you selected during the first week of the semester. The first step of this is to find
sources that are directly relevant to your topic and narrow down on a research question.
In order to earn a B on this assignment, you must complete all of the following tasks:
1. Write a detailed description on your topic and what you hope to learn/discover
from your research. This should be about 300 words long.
2. Create a list of 3 possible research questions. Rank these (which one is your #1
choice?)
a. Think about what problem you want solved. Refer to the assigned reading in
Chapter 6 for help with this.
3. Find ten credible sources for your topic. Before selecting them, read the
abstract/skim to make sure it is actually relevant to your topic.
a. You must have two sources that oppose your view point.
b. You must have at least 4 different types of sources (books, articles,
newspaper, websites, etc.)
4. Create an MLA Works Cited entry for each source (these should be in alphabetical
order).
5. Write a brief (1-2 sentence) description of each source. This is mostly for you. It
should be just enough so that you remember why you selected that source.
6. Compile your description and Works Cited entries on a single, MLA formatted
document.
