 Responsible tourism is any form of tourism
that can be consumed in a more responsible
way. “Responsible tourism is tourism
which: minimizes negative social, economic
and environmental impacts. generates
greater economic benefits for local people
and enhances the well-being of host
communities.
 Responsible tourism is like sustainable
tourism, however as often the word
sustainability is often overused and not
understood, responsible tourism has been
adopted as a term used by industry

characteristics, Responsible
Tourism:
 minimises negative economic,
environmental, and social impacts;
 generates greater economic benefits for
local people and enhances the well-
being of host communities, improves
working conditions and access to the
industry;
 involves local people in decisions that
affect their lives and life chances;
 makes positive contributions to the
conservation of natural and cultural
heritage, to the maintenance of the
world’s diversity;

4.  provides more enjoyable experiences
for tourists through more meaningful
connections with local people, and a
greater understanding of local cultural,
social and environmental issues;
 provides access for physically
challenged people;
 and is culturally sensitive, engenders
respect between tourists and hosts,
and builds local pride and confidence.

6. INDIGENOUS TOURISM
 Indigenous Tourism can be defined
as a tourism activity in which
Indigenous people are directly
involved either through control and/or
by having their culture serve as the
essence of the attraction.
 Indigenous tourism centered on a
native community and described by
various terms is steadily growing as
an integral part of tourism industry.

7.  For instance, it is referred to as Aboriginal
or Indigenous tourism in Australia; as
Aboriginal, Native or First Nations tourism
in Canada; and Indian or Native American
tourism in the USA. It is also referred to as
Anthropological Tourism or Tribal Tourism
in some nations.
 Indigenous peoples are the holders and
custodians of unique languages,
knowledge systems and beliefs and
possess invaluable knowledge of practices
for the sustainable management of natural
resources.
 They have a special relation and a very
strong bond with their land.
