Saddleback College Jazz Concert Report
The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz
Combos perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats
but seemed to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it was
the holiday season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas trees
with christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this concert is
a cumulation of different jazz students put into small groups and perform in front of an audience.
This concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level amongst the
combos.
As for the first group, the Alvarado Combo consisted of a bass, piano, trombone, saxophone
(switched from alto to tenor after the first piece), and drums played two songs. While the titles of
each song were not disclosed, one of them is originally composed by the drummer and the trombone
player, John and Andrew respectively. In effort to classify this genre of music, it would fall under
cool jazz as it stayed in a relaxed tempo and lighter tone. This piece is paired well with the holiday

The beginning sounded similar to a salsa type of music due to the drum's rhythm on the crash
cymbal. Each musician had a solo within each piece. The rhythm section (double bass and drums)
did a phenomenal job at maintaining as well as driving the tempo when it felt dragging. Moreover,

The film "This is England" is a movie about twelve year old Shaun growing up and trying to fit in
with the local skinheads. The film takes place during 1983 in a small town in England. The eighties
in England was a time under Thatcher's government, and society was deeply affected by how
Thatcher had governed the country. The Thatcher years had caused a lot of problems for the working
class like unemployment, poverty, racism, and people were angered by the unnecessary Falkland

Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982 and Thatcher used that opportunity to play the part
of a heroic war leader, some people praised her, while most of the working class felt the whole war
in itself was absolutely unneeded. In the film Shaun's father was killed in the conflict with

Upon watching This is England directed by Shane Meadows initial thoughts that went through my
head were this movie is excellent. This genre of this film can be described as drama, there are many
emotions this film highlights such as, jealousy and anger. For the purpose of reviewing this film the
main things to consider are plot, reliability, acting, and social relevance. We have a plot that is deep
with a well written storyline with meaning for a variety of audiences. The film is edited in a way
there is no point in the film where the viewer is left confused as to what the meaning of something
is. The characters made you feel as if you were present in the moment with each of them. You have
to consider all the thought and effort which went into production of this film to appreciate This is

This film covers many aspects of sociology, we as the viewer are confronted with issues such as
racism and peer pressure. The other main character is Combo, he is introduced as a recently released
convict that has some bold nationalistic beliefs. As the movie goes on the viewer is given the
impression that psychologically, Combo has some deep rooted issues that he has not confronted.
This issues play into his nationalistic views of the world, he appears to act out his anger among

Angry Birds Match is Rovio Games' sixteenth entry in their ever–popular series of action puzzle
games for mobile and tablet devices. The game launched for iOS on November 11th, 2016 and on
Android on August 31st, 2017. The app is available for download on all current iOS and Android
devices (later than Android 5.0). The game also ties into the recently released feature film The
Angry Birds Movie (2016) and its tie–in television series, Blues.
The main storyline of this game focuses on you rescuing Hatchlings from pigs by solving puzzles.
The Bad Piggies want to disrupt the eternal party of the Hatchlings via some well–placed petty theft
for mysterious, spiteful reasons as yet unknown. This injustice is resolved by you clearing levels to
return the Hatchling's 'stuff and things' to their rightful owners.

were live. Combining historic footage of McCarthy with black–and–white imagery further conveys

My First Part Of The Combo
In the beginning of the year, from week one to week five, we began learning some of the warmups
and getting our body used to dance. I have never taken a dance class before so when I first entered
the classroom, I was a little intimidated. One of the first things we learned was a warm up
combination. The first part of the combo was where we had our right foot go forward, back to the
other foot, side, back to the other foot, back behind us, and then back to the original position while
clapping at the end. Then, we would repeat this process on the other side while trying to make your
body not so stiff but free flowing. Next, we repeated these two steps fastly and then turn after your
foot would return with the other foot. After that, we ran forward, lifting our arms and right leg up
"neighing", and then repeated on the other side. We repeated both sides twice. Next, we went to our

Attention Getting Device: Killer Instinct is a six button fighting that was released in November 2013

Jazz Workshop and Class Material The Jazz Workshop, Wednesday night, was conducted by
Professor Madsen. There were two other groups that performed before the workshop. Those were
two bands were the Rich Armandi Combo, coached by Rich Armandi, and the
Funk Combo, coached by Chris Madsen, and the Jazz Workshop, conducted by Professor Madsen,
and special guest Victor Garcia. All three groups did an outstanding job. They had many moments
that I could hear were very similar to what we have been learning in jazz history. It was interesting
to actually hear everything that was being taught in class being exercised in the concert. In this
paper I will be talking about the concert as well as the parallels that showed up in the concert that
relate back to what our class has been learning.
In the first group, the Rich Armandi Combo, did really well over all. When listening to the combo
there were many things that stood out. You can hear the basic jazz techniques, the drum keeping
time, he never stops or goes off beat. In the second song the combo performed Forest Flower was
very well done, the trumpet added to the song. I thought that some of the trumpet playing sounded
similar to Miles Davis. This was because the trumpeter was playing in a middle register, but not to
low. Just like Davis would play, the trumpet also had great a great sound for the long notes she was

As a student who makes it their goal to involve himself in every musical activity, I have had the
privilege to play music in large groups like a marching band, big band, and orchestra, in addition to
small groups like a jam band and a traditional gypsy jazz band. I've participated in competitions at
tens of schools, auditioned into region bands, and played big band charts on the steps of the Navy
Memorial. With that being considered the group that had the most profound effect on me is a
student–run Jazz combo, a small group of around eight high school musicians who played jazz
standards at smaller high–class events. My four years in this group contain some of my most
significant experiences of my high–school career. These experiences were what changed a nervous
and absent minded freshman into the confident student leader that I act as today.

On November 18, 2015, I attended a UAB concert involving jazz combos and a guitar ensemble.
This concert was filled with amazing musicians, intricate solos, and thick harmonies. There were
three jazz combos and one guitar ensemble; the first set was the guitar ensemble, which contained
four guitarists and one bass player. The ensemble consisted of four songs: "Swing It," a swing–style
song; "Samba #1"; "A Child is Born," a waltz; and "Bill's Bay." The main theme of "Bill's Bay" was
very catchy and memorable, and the ensemble's most impressive player to me was Michael Galanti
on the bass guitar. His solos involved precise pizzicato and quick movement that I have never

was socially, culturally, politically, and ethically different from that of my own. It was interesting to

In COMBO group, patients received metformin (initiated at 500 mg by mouth once daily and
increased to 1000 mg twice daily) and liraglutide (started at 0.6 mg inject subcutaneous once daily
and increased to 1.2 mg once daily). On the other hand, in LIRA3 group, liraglutide was started at
0.6 mg injected subcutaneous once daily and increased up to 3 mg daily. Therefore, the primary
outcome was focused on the mean change in anthropometric measures (heights, weight, and waist
circumference) of obesity. Besides, the secondary outcomes were based on metabolic and hormonal
changes.6
For safety clinical assessment, patients were screened at the beginning and week 4, 8 and 12 during
the study; overall results were analyzed after twelve weeks. From pre– and post–treatment resutls,
there was a significant decrease (p < 0.01) in weight and BMI in both groups, and a significant
decrease (p = 0.003) in waist circumference in LIRA3. Hence, there was a clinically significant of
each group in reducing weight (35.7% in COMBO and 57.1% in LIRA3) with OR = 0.42, 95% CI =
