3. INTRODUCTION
‘Oliver twist’ subtitled ‘The parish boy’s
progress’ is the second novel by English
author Charles Dickens published by
Richard Bentley in 1838
‘Oliver twist’ is notable for Dickens’s
unromantic portrayal of criminals and their
dirty lives.
4. MEANS OF OLIVER
Oliver means ‘holly’ ‘pure’ and also extreme
power of tolerance.
In French word ‘pure Aeternus’ (child hero)
and ‘senex’ archetypes which means old
hero.
5. WHAT IS ‘PURE AETERNUS’
‘pure aeternus’ is Latin for eternal
boy, used in mythology to designate
a child-god who is forever young.
6. THE PURE IN MYTHOLOGY
The word pure aeternus come from
metamorphoses, an epic work by the Roman
poet Ovid dealing with Greek and roman
Myths. in the poem, Ovid addresses the child
god latches as pure aeternus and raises him
for his role in the Eleusinian Mysteries.
7. THE PURE IN JUNGIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung
developed a school of thought called
analytical Psychology.
In analytical Psychology (often called
Jungian Psychology) the pure aeternus is
an example of what Jung called an
archetype, one of the primordial-structural
element of human Psyche.
8. SENEX
The shadow of the pure is senex (Latin for
“OLD MAN”) associated with the god
Crones-disciplined, controlled, responsible,
ordered.
The positive side of pure appears as the
Divine child who symbolizes, Newness,
potential for growth, hope for future.

Oliver is a saint, an unchanging exemplary of
sacred essences a stable icon in a violently
fallen world.

coming darkness and providing a ‘high
consciousness’ through his capacity to
overcome or shed light on the unconscious.
