Task -3

Camerawork
Shot types/Composition
Film shots are an essential aspect of a movie where angles, transitions and
cuts are used to clearly express emotion, ideas and movement. The term
"shot" can refer to two different parts of the filmmaking process: In
production, a shot is the moment that the camera starts rolling until the
moment it stops. The four basic kinds of field size shots are:
1.the long shot (often used as an establishing shot)
2.the full shot,
3.the medium shot,
4.the close-up.
Camerawork

Three less often used field size are
5.the extreme long shot (used for epic views and panoramas),
6.the American shot (also 3/4 shot),

FULL SHOT: Itshows the entire human body, with the head near the top
of the frame and the feet near the bottom. It is used when the women was
lying on the floor to create a sense of vulnaravity

Medium Shot: This is the framing of the character( subject of their torso).
It’s used to show facial expressions, body language, gestures. Usually used
during dialogues. It is mostly used for the man to show his body language
or actions

Close Up: More intimate than the medium shot, the expressions and emotions of an actor are
more visible and affecting and is meant to engage the character in a direct and personal
manner. You are starting to lose visual information about the character’s surroundings,
but the character’s actions are more intimate and impacting. It is used in the movie to show
the women’s face and the pain she is feeling and her reaction to the occurrences.

lighting
Lighting
High-key Lighting
Final Destination and lighting
In most of the part of the movie, lighting is kept high key as this
film is set inside someone's home. At the end of the movie, high
key lighting is used to show that the house is burning. Basically
high key lighting is used to show the effect of fire.
Lighting
Low-key Lighting
Final Destination
Low key lighting is used at some point of the movie to create a
sense of suspense .
it is used again t show the outside of the house to show the
darkness surrounding or give a feel of isolation.
Editing includes telling the story according to it’s structure, order and pace. Editing makes the
movie fast going or slow, excited or dull, sad or happy.
Editing consists of types of cuts, transitions and visual effects., like dissolve, fade or colour
effects.
The movie Final Destination follows the classic continuity of movies and involves a lot of
straigt cuts and visual effects.
Visual Effects
The movie uses visual effects. Visual effects means creating sceneries close to real-life using
technology.
In the movie it is used to show the computer explode.
Cut
cross cutting
Cutting back and forth quickly between two or more lines of action,
indicating they are happening simultaneously.
It is commonly used to define the spatial relationship in a movie. It is
used in the movie to show the things happening all around the set at the
same time. Like the girl was struggling and at the same time the boy
was coming to her
Editing
Jump Cut:
In these shots sequential shots of the same
object are taken which only vary slightly. It
is noticeable to the eye. In the movie, jump
cut is used to show that the girl is doing her
work ( taking something to drink). They
used jump cut to leap through a certain
amount of time to show that she is pouring
herself a drink . This is how the jump cut is
used to cover the time leap so that the
audience won’t feel bored or they won’t feel
that the film is dragging.
Mise En Scene
Mise en Scene means the visual codes of the movie. It includes sound,
lighting, costume, props, setting.
Lightings include High-key lighting and Low-key lighting.
Setting includes the place where the scene is being shotted, it’s
environment etc.
Props are the tools or objects used in the scene.
Costumes means what the actors are wearing during the scene.
Sound includes digetive and non-digetive sound.
Final Destination:
Mise-en-scene
Characters:
Throughout the sequence we have seen, there are not many characters introduced. But we got to see
some characters. Two of them had important roles in the sequence we have seen.
The Women:
The character of the women is shown to be scared for some reason. She is shown to be terrified of the
sudden sound she heard and her reactions were clearly stating that she is afraid that something might
happen. She is trying to calm helself by talking and drinking. It is shown that she is working on
something. She is shown to be courageous as well as she was shown to struggle to live for along time
after many injuries. In some of the scenes, she is shown to have panicked.
Final Destination:
Mise-en-scene
Final Destination:
Mise-en-Scene:
Costumes:
Costumes in the movie were not that special.
Just regular clothes worn by normal people.
The girl was wearing pants, t-shirt and a shirt
on top of it.
The man was shown wearing a jacket and a
jumper.
Other characters were also dressed as
civilians.
Setting:
The movie is set in a house. It is not that isolated but still quite
far away. It is in a locality as people are shown to pass from in
front of the house. But many people don’t live near it. The setting
inside house is also quite normal.
This suggests that the house is ordinary , but something
dangerous happened inside it . it gives the audience a feeling of
insecurity that the incident can happen to them as well. It is also
somewhat isolated which meets the feature of a steriotypical
horror movie.
Final Destination:
Mise-en-Scene:
Props:
The objects used in films, plays or TV are called
props. In the movie, the things that were used
were all everyday items like the computer, cup,
kettle, knives. The knife- stand was covered with
a cloth. All of these normal things were used in a
way that all of them became threats , weapons
and participated in the death of the women. The
computer exploded, the cup broke and leaked
the alcohol, the alcohol bottle caused an
explosion and the knives fell on her chest. These
props specifically linked to genre of horror to
threaten people. Thus for the audience supports
the type of film in their mind.
Final destination:
Sound:
Dialogue:
Dialogues are the conversations between two or characters in a movie. There
are not many dialogues in the sequence we’ve watched. The dialogues from the
girl at the start are when she w as shocked by the sound.
Diagetic-Sound:
The are also the sound of dropping the tea and the sound that shocked her ,the
sound of explosion too. These are digestive sound that exists inside the world
of text
Final destination:
Sound:
Non-digestive sound:
It defines the doesn’t exist inside the world of text. For example : the
background given when the boy was coming to her, the sound effects
including the sound of explosion of the computer, the ominous music in
the background.
Final destination:
Sound:
Sound Bridge:
These are the sounds that connects two scenes. It is used when the
scene shifted from the girl talking to herself to taking food from the
refrigerator with the sound of opening the fridge.

  • 11. Camera Angles And Movement
  • 14. Final Destination and lighting In most of the part of the movie, lighting is kept high key as this film is set inside someone's home. At the end of the movie, high key lighting is used to show that the house is burning. Basically high key lighting is used to show the effect of fire.
  • 16. Final Destination Low key lighting is used at some point of the movie to create a sense of suspense . it is used again t show the outside of the house to show the darkness surrounding or give a feel of isolation.
  • 17. Editing includes telling the story according to it’s structure, order and pace. Editing makes the movie fast going or slow, excited or dull, sad or happy. Editing consists of types of cuts, transitions and visual effects., like dissolve, fade or colour effects. The movie Final Destination follows the classic continuity of movies and involves a lot of straigt cuts and visual effects.
  • 18. Visual Effects The movie uses visual effects. Visual effects means creating sceneries close to real-life using technology. In the movie it is used to show the computer explode.
  • 19. Cut cross cutting Cutting back and forth quickly between two or more lines of action, indicating they are happening simultaneously. It is commonly used to define the spatial relationship in a movie. It is used in the movie to show the things happening all around the set at the same time. Like the girl was struggling and at the same time the boy was coming to her
  • 20. Editing Jump Cut: In these shots sequential shots of the same object are taken which only vary slightly. It is noticeable to the eye. In the movie, jump cut is used to show that the girl is doing her work ( taking something to drink). They used jump cut to leap through a certain amount of time to show that she is pouring herself a drink . This is how the jump cut is used to cover the time leap so that the audience won’t feel bored or they won’t feel that the film is dragging.
