4. Frame 1
Mise en scene
In this particular frame the mise
en scene suggests that there is a
casual event taking place there
are different factors that show
this. For example the girls in the
picture are wearing simple cloths
nothing which is particularly
fancy. Another piece of evidence
that suggests that there is a
casual event taking place is the
fact that there are to girls
together who are friends, her
parents are there and in the video
it is cleat that they are
celebrating something. The girls
in this frame are happy and are
about to leave the house to go
and play outside.
Camera work
In the camera work in place
during this particular frame is
a over the shoulder shot. The
purpose of this shot is two
show the two characters in
the film talking to each other.
We can see that the girl is
asking her mum a question.
The shot allows the audience
to get a view of what the
characters are seeing. The
particular shot gives the
audience a chance to see
from the character
perspective and to
understand how he feels,
adding a touch of realism to
the frame.
Sound
There is use of both
diegetic and non-
diegetic sound in this
frame. The diegetic
sound occurs when the
girl is talking to her
mother and then there is
non-diegetic music
being played as the girl
speaks to her mother the
music is cheerful and
makes the frame appear
to be more pleasant.
Editing
In this particular
frame the editing
adopted has
been montage
editing this is
because the
editing is quick
and last for a
short period of
time
5. Frame 2
Mise en scene
In this particular frame there
clothing worn connotes that the
two characters are going outside
to play, the clothing shows that
the weather must be cold in the
setting that they are based as they
are wearing wooly scarfs and
wooly hats in order to keep them
warm.. At this frame in the video
the characters are happy to be
going outside to play and are
looking forward to having fun.
This is shown in there body
language which is positive.
Camera work
In this particular moment the
camera angle used to capture the
characters is an extreme long
shot this allows us to see the
setting/location in the corner of
this frame you can see that they
have just come out of the house.
Further showing where they
could be going next. used in
order to show the audience where
the frame is shot and allowing
them to picture where they are
going next as they have seen
enough of the setting to
understand what is going on.
Sound
There is both usage of
diegetic sound and non-
diegetic sound being used.
As the two characters come
out they are smiling,
laughing and are happy, this
is the diegetic sound .
However non-diegetic sound
is being in the background
and it is an eerie sound
which connotes that
something bad is going to
happen this can only be
heard by the audience so it
builds up tension for them.
Editing
For this frame the form of
editing which adopted
was continuity editing this
we know that this form
editing has been in use
because the frame plays
smoothly without any
abrupt changes. That are
common in montage
editing.
6. Frame 3
Sound
The sound used in this clip is non
diegetic. The sound is dark and
deep, portraying a negative,
disturbing image to the audience.
This is required as the caption is
quit powerful however without
the non-diegetic music it is more
likely to seem less intense to the
audience.
Editing
Continuity editing is the only
form of editing used in this
frame, continuity editing uses
shows a more fuller and longer
piece of a particular clip instead
of showing different snap shots
of different clips in a short period
of time.
Impact
This particular clip is
important and has a big
impact because it states the
main event of the entire
film. This piece of
information allows the
audience to picture the
different scenarios that could
occur and also build up
tension for the views.
7. Frame 4
mise en scene
Formally dressed in forms the
audience that he is some
important or significant in the
film. It turned out that he was "
protective Loci" the mise en
scene is important as it shows the
body language of the character
this is significant the body
language in this frame is
important as it shows the
character being serious and
shaking the fathers hand showing
the audience that he could be the
key to finding the girl that has
gone missing The clothing he is
wearing a shirt shows he is
smartly dressed showing that he
is serious in trying to find out
what happened..
Camera work
Once again
similarly to other
frames an other
the shoulder shot
has been adopted
meaning that the
audience get a
more realistic
perspective on the
situation as they
are viewing the
scene from the
characters
perspective. This
is a clever
technique as it
puts the audience
in the characters
shoes.
Sound
In this frame there has
only been the use of
one sound technique
this is diegetic sound.
They have only
focused on using
diegetic sound in
order to allow the
audience to focus on
what he is saying as
during this particular
moment of time what
he says is an
extremely important
element to the movie
and it tells the
audience how
important he will be to
finding the lost girl
Editing
The form of
editing being used
in this clip is
continuity the
reason why they
have stuck to
continuity editing
instead of montage
editing is because
they are
emphasizing the
how important the
introduction of
this character is
and don't want to
rush over it and is
why the better
option is
continuity editing.
8. Frame 5
Mise en Scene
In this particular frame the
detective is wearing a rain
coat as it is raining, as he
approaches the caravan he
approaches slowly this
shows that he is cautious
his actions show the
audience that there is
danger in the caravan. The
lighting also shows the
mysterious element of the
film as the lighting is
dark.
camera work
As the detective approaches
the caravan it shows a long
shot of him to show the
audience what he is wearing as
well as showing the audience
the setting of the scene, as
soon as this is shown to the
audience it then changes to an
over shoulder shot showing the
audience what the character
sees which at this moment of
time was a caravan which
caused tension for the
character who doesn’t know
what to expect, the same
applies for the audience as
through this particular shot
they are put in the same
position as the detective.
Sound
In this clip there is both
non-diegetic sound
being used and diegetic.
Non-diegetic music in
this clip has been used
quit creatively because
in the non-diegetic
music you can hear a
news report in the
background further
implying and telling the
audience what has
happened. The diegetic
sound is the detective in
the clip shouting to fund
out who's in there, A
very intense moment for
both for the detective
and the audience.
Editing
There has been
use of one
particular form
of editing which
is continuity
editing. This
form of editing
has been
adopted to show
prolonged clips
of the caravan
which is
significant in the
film as the
character who is
inside the
caravan might
know where the
children are.
9. Frame 6
Mise en scene
The mise en scene of this
clip tell the audience that
the character who has been
found is a massive suspect
this is because as soon as
he is found is body
language informs us that he
looks vulnerable.
Slouching and was found
in the wrong place at the
wrong time, the old worn
out clothing he was
wearing also gives away
that. He is weak. This
factors coming together
give the audience the
opinion that he could have
kidnapped the girl.
Camera work
An other the shoulder
shot has been used
again to make the
audience feel what the
detective feels in the
movie, also showing
more clearly what the
character looks
like. creating a
frightening effect for
the audience.
editing
Continuity editing is the
form of editing used this
form of editing is used so
that the audience can get a
clear view of what the
victim looks like,
throughout the film the
character is likely to be a
main figure as he may be
the key to finding the girl
who got kidnapped as it is
likely that he could have
kidnapped her, the
continuity helps to create
that visual effect for the
audience.
Sound
In this frame there
has been a mixture
of both non-
diegetic music and
diegetic music this
combination
includes the
conversation of the
detective and the
suspect and also
include non-
diegetic music
which is a sort of
ticking sound to
emphasizes that
time is running out
and that the girl
must be found as
quickly as
possible.
10. Frame 7
impact
The particular frame has a
significant impact on the
audience and has some
level of importance
throughout the movie as it
shows that time is running
out to find the
girl. Further developing
the tension of the film and
connoting
the thriller genre
Sound
The sound used for this
frame engages the
audience by using intense non-
diegetic music used to build
tension and cause despair for the
audience. This shows the audience
that time is running out.
Editing
The use of editing grabs
the audiences attention
by using various
different techniques,
which
include transitions, and
also the zooming in
of the frame grabbing
the audiences
attention, showing how
important the particular
moment is.
11. Frame 8
Mise en scene
The mise en scene suggests
to us that there is a
serious job underway in
the caravan at this point it
is clear that they
have identified the owner
of the caravan as
a suspect and they are
carrying further checks on
the caravan to see if they
can find any evidence of
the girl being in
the caravan. The overall
mood created from the
scene is considered to be
disturbing and scary due to
the clothing that is being
worn and the way that the
character is acting.
Camera work
In this clip there has
been use of
one camera angle
which is a low angle
shot, the reason
why a low angle
shot has been used
is to make the
character
seem bigger due to
the fact that he is
wearing the clothing
that he is wearing
the angle makes
him look
more intimidating an
d builds further
tension within the
audience.
Editing
In this frame the
form of
editing being used
is montage
editing, montage
editing has been
used in order to
get as
many shots as
possible into the
frame so that
the audience
can get to see as
much as possible
with in a short
period of time.
Sound
For the sound in
this clip there has
been the use
of both non-
diegetic
and diegetic soun
d. The diegetic
sound is the
characters
speaking and then
the non diegetic
sound is
music playing
over there voices.
This
offers heightened
tension for the
audience making
the moment more
intense.
12. Frame 9
Sound
The use of non-
diegetic music
in this
frame makes
the frame appea
r more intense
as the music as
a eerie feel to
it. That
connotes
the effect you
would expect
from a thriller.
Editing
The form of editing used in
this clip is montage editing
a form of editing which is
about being able to
show the audience as much
of the film within a short
period of time. This is
achieved by
showing short and quick sn
apshots of the film this is a
clever way of editing
because it makes the
audience want to see what
happens next and leaves
them wanting more.
Impact
This message is
important as it sums
up the story in the
film very effectively
in one
sentence. This sums
up to the audience
what the film is
mainly about and has
the ability to build up
the audiences interest
even more for the
film.
13. 5. Once your images have been annotated,
consider the following in relation to the whole
trailer
The audience is left with
a question to whether or not the
girl that got kidnapped ever
got found. This is the main part to
the film discovering if the girl
was found is the main question
that the audience will have.
What information is the
audience given in terms of
genre and audience
Unique Selling Point
In this film there are a variety
of different unique selling points. One of the
unique selling points is that there is a time-
period in which the girl must be found
within, there is a mystery figure that isn't
revealed to the audience, there is some sort
of kidnapping when all these unique selling
points come together sound like an attractive
film that is likely to be successful.
What type of audience is
being addressed? You
might like to think in terms
of age.
Adults are the target audience for
this particular film the reason for
this is because it's rated at 18+
meaning anyone under that aged
shouldn’t watch it. Because it is
a kidnapping has both parents
and children involved it could be
argued that it is targeted to adults
with a family or children.
14. Prisoner
• The film in many aspects is similar to the film that we are try to create in are group. In this film
there is a kidnapping the same occurs in prisoner. This task has helped learn more about the genre
and how directors of a high end successful movie production used Mise En Scene, camera work,
sound and editing to create the effects that they created. From this film I would consider borrowing
the editing the montage editing is extremely effective and shows different aspects of the film, the
sound is also something that I would consider borrowing as it adds more depth and has the ability
to make certain clips in the trailer appear more intense and has the ability to build tension.
15. poster
Movie title
The movie title is bold and is one of the main things
that straight away will be noticed when you pick this movie
poster up. Laying in the center of the page it has
an interesting font that matches the genre it is representing.
Actors featuring
When people go to watch a film or are
interested in watching a film they straight
away want to find out about the actors
that are featuring in the movie. Having
it on the poster makes it easier for the
movie's audience to be aware without
having to research else where
Image of actor
Actors in films can be big selling points and
attract a wider audience even if they are not
so massively interested in the genre of the
film.
Release data
The release data is bold and the color is
white making it standout significantly in
the poster as the rest of the poster
is extremely dark and almost black
in color.
Tagline
The poster must have a catchy tagline as its
aim is to make the movie sound as good as it
can possibly be as demonstrated for this
particular poster the tagline has been
extremely well fought-out and creates the
effect that you would want from a tag-line.
Stylish background
Visual effect are important when creating a poster, a
poster which is stylish and has good visuals is straight
away at an advantage from other posters as
more people will actually go and look at the poster if it
looks attractive, better marketing the film and creating a
larger chance that people will go and watch it.
Billing block
In this case the
billing block states
the age restriction for the
film.
Mise en scene
The intense look on the character face,
represents the genre well because
thriller movies tend to be intense and
cause tension to build up the look on the
character's face sums this up well, also
showing the phycological element of the
genre.
Camera work
In this poster the camera angle is a close up. In thriller films in
general this is a common angle as it allows the audience to see
what kind of thoughts the character could be having this is more
useful in physiological thriller.
16. Unique selling point (USP)
• I believe that the poster and teaser trailer share similar points and therefore works
effectively when trying to market the film. I believe that the marketing team is trying to
attract a certain type of audience through the design of the poster and the hidden
messages "A hidden truth", messages like these will grab the audiences attention and will
make them more eager to find out the hidden truth is. "A desperate search" this message
has a similar effect as the previous message does by again attracting people attention
and making them eager to find out about what happened. A strong tagline is doing a good
job in making the film standout and making it seem more intriguing than its possible
competition. When these marketing elements come together a well throughout poster is
created. One that is likely to become successful and attracting peoples attention.
17. What have you taken from this
• The textual analysis of this film has been extremely useful and beneficial to the development of are
film that we will be creating in are groups. From the teaser trailer how mise en scene is used to
represent the genre, editing making sure the correct and most effective form of editing is used
whether this is montage or continuity editing, sound making sure that we use a mixture of both non
diegetic and diegetic music to bring in more depth to are movie, using the appropriate camera
work to highlight and emphasize on key scenes, frames or moments with in the film, making sure
that the ideal lighting is used to create certain effects. Learning all of this has been necessary, has
given a strong idea of how to create a successful thriller film . The poster has taught me about
different marketing strategies that I will borrow in order to make the film poster standout and
attract the audience we are aiming for, the messages and tagline with in the prisoner poster
massively impressed me and have desided to borrow a similar idea in order to create a positive
impact.
