Oct 2009 to March 2010, 45 women with previously operated carcinoma cervix were recruited in
the study. Patients who had a final histopathology diagnosis and no contraindications to
chemotherapy/ radiotherapy or any MRI contraindications and or were lost to follow up were
excluded. 30 patients were included for the final analysis. 2 years follow–up was performed all the

recurrence received image guided intensity modulated radiotherapy (IG–IMRT) with concomitant

with concurrent weekly cisplatin (40 mg/m 2). Response assessment and brachytherapy preplanning
MRI were performed within a week of completing IG–IMRT. Subsequently, all patients underwent
template guided high dose rate pelvic interstitial brachytherapy (20 Gy/5 #/ 3 days).

Aim: The aim of study was to compare the influence of either general anaesthesia(GA) or combined
spinal epidural anaesthesia (CSEA) on post operative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in elderly (60
to 70 years) subjects undergoing hip surgery and to note the impact of preoperative hospitalization
on POCD. Methods: A total of 60 ASa physical status 1 & 2patients were recruited for a Prospective
Randmoized Parallel–group study, comparable in age and sex. Subjects were enrolled and
randomized to receive either GA ( Group A, n=30) or CSEA (Group B, n=30).All of them screened
using Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Clock Drawing Test (CDT)preoperatively. The
operated patients Re–Evaluated by same scale on 3rd postoperative day for POCD. The impact of
preoperative hospitalization on POCD also noted. The data collected were analyzed to assess
statistical significance. Results: We observed no statistical difference in cognitive behaviour in
either group pre–operatively, which were comparable with respect age and sex. Postoperatively a
significant difference was seen between the two groups in MMSE scores and CDT scores. No
association of POCD and pre operative days of hospital stay seen. Conclusions: We observed a
significant Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction with GA in comparison to CSEA. Gender and
preoperative hospitalization have no association with POCD.

Source apportionment, distribution and mobilization of arsenic (As) in groundwater are hot topic
that have received a significant attention among the scientific communities in the last two decades
as a consequence of the human health risk associated with ingestion of As–containing water in the
Ganges delta region (Welch and Stollenwerk 2003; Reza and Jean 2012; Joseph et al. 2015).
Geochemical process of As in groundwater is increasing with time, which aggravates anxiety due to
its toxic effects for the human. It is reported that 35 million of the residents in Bangladesh and West
Bengal of India are exposed to the potential health risk of As poisoning (Chowdhury et al. 1999;
BGS and DPHE 2001). High concentrations of As are mainly limited to sedimentary strata of
Holocene age in Bangladesh and West Bengal of India (Bhattacharya et al. 1997; Ahmed et al.
2004). Unfortunately, most of the environmental problems associated with As are the results of
mobilization from geogenic sources under natural reducing condition (Nickson 1998; Reza et al.
2013). Arsenic can be released into groundwater by reductive dissolution of Fe(III) oxy– hydroxides
(Bhattacharya et al. 1997; Nickson et al. 2000; Harvey et al. 2002). Furthermore, several studies
have stated that chemical fertilizers and organic wastes may enhance As into groundwater by ionic
reaction with phosphorus resultant from fertilizers (Chowdhury et al. 1999; Anawar et al. 2006).
