2. Grading Criteria
Class Work: 20%
Class Work is submitted at the beginning of class (first 5
minutes). If your work is not completed, you must wait
until the beginning of class the following day.
How is the class work graded?
4. Tests: 40%
Tests are the largest part of your grade. They are short,
(10 questions), and often. Usually six tests per quarter—
every one-and-a-half weeks. They cover one to two topics.
What they are not is a reflection of how “good” or “bad”
you are at math. The tests simply reflect how you have spent
your time since the last test. Have you;
1. Done all the assigned class work? 20%
2. Completed all of the homework (Khan Academy)? 20%
3. Asked Questions and reviewed your notebook? 10%
Finally, you must use pencil, and submit any scratch paper.
You may use a calculator, but absolutely no phones.
5. Notebook: 10%
The grading criteria for your notebook is:
1. Is it complete? Are you doing the warm-ups, writing the
formulas, class notes, etc.
2. Is it organized? Everything that should be there, is
there, and in the correct section.
3. Is it legible? Can you read and make sense of it? Can I
read and make sense of it?
6. Final Exam: 10%
The Final is comprehensive, meaning it covers everything
for that quarter and for the quarter(s) before it.
Our warm-up questions will include lots of review.
7. Home Work: 20%
To begin, any class work not completed in class must be
completed outside of class, usually at home. Regardless of
where it is completed, is it considered class work.
Our homework is completed on-line at a site called The
Khan Academy.
The focus of the Khan Academy is to learn the topic, or
what they call mastery.
Mastery is achieved by answering 5 consecutive questions
correctly. If it takes you 5, 50, or 500 questions to get 5 in a
row correct, that is mastery, and a 100% grade for that
topic.
8. Home Work: 20%
How does it work?
At the beginning of the week, you will be given 3 topics
(usually). You have until 7:00 pm the following Sunday to
master the topics.
You can complete the topics at any point during the week,
but they must be completed by the deadline for credit.

Let’s look at the Khan Academy:
11. Grading the Khan Academy
B: Mastery not achieved by deadline:
A: Mastery achieved before deadline: 100% grade for that topic.
Because the more you practice anything, the better you will
become, you will receive 2 points for each question you
answer, correctly.
Your maximum grade (if you answer 40 or more questions) will
be 80%. If you were to answer 35 questions correctly, but not
answer 5 in a row, you will receive a grade of 70%.
If you do 5 problems and get 4 correct, your score will be 8%.
If you attempt to answer no questions, your grade will be
0%.
12. We are going to take a 5 minute break, stretch, rest the mind
before beginning our warm-up/test review.
