Definitions of the roman government.

1. Government Terms of the
Romans

2. Republic
• A government that is not run by a specified
king or group, but rather the people/citizens.

3. Senate
• The aristocratic (rich people in community)
group of elders who influence the result of
dilemmas in the government.

4. Conflict of Orders
• The conflict of Italian citizens against one
another for rights/reputation, while Rome was
trying to expand.

5. Patricians
• The aristocrats or higher ruling richer class
people of the community.

6. Plebeians
• The average or poorer citizens of the Roman
empire. (Commoners)

7. Veto
• To cancel a proposed decision.

8. Dictator
• A ruler that can perform tasks higher than the
ordinary legislative branch.

9. Tribunes
• Commoners elected by farmers and
aristocrats, who held lots of power for the
Plebeians.

10. Assembly of the Plebs
• A group of tribunes who could elect officials,
try for criminal cases, and pass legislation.

11. Censor
• Two of these people took the census, and
determined the amount of property an man
could afford, and had to have.

12. Executive
• The executive branch of the Italian
government that was run by the Consuls.

13. Legislative Branch
• The Legislative branch of the Italians
government was run by the Assemblies of the
senate.

14. Judiciary branch
• The Judiciary branch of the Italian government
was run by the Praetor.

15. Praetor
• An officer of the law, elected by the Military
assembly. They intercept opinions non
political related

16. Twelve Tables
• The laws written on twelve stone tablets,
pertaining to the citizens everyday life.

17. Consuls
• Commoners that served as Chief in Command
in the Military, they had to promote others to
higher authority.
