Mysterious Entities Of The Pacific Northwest Part 1 Summary
"Mankind's imagination has always been excited by the possibilities of unknown regions" (Nickell,
109). In the article "Mysterious Entities of the Pacific Northwest Part 1", Joe Nickell explains the
possibilities of pseudoscience, a presented scientific belief that is not yet scientifically valid, as well
as the possibility of hoaxes. While there have been many claimed sightings of paranormal activity
such as Bigfoot, Ghosts and the Loch Ness Monster, there has not been evidence to prove these
claims as real. Almost everybody has heard their share of ghosts stories and the myths behind
Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. These stories are universally shared, and recently, people have
provided evidence claiming to have seen such mysterious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Being the first to witness a true sign of a paranormal activity is a dream for many people who
believe that humans are not the only ones in the universe today. With the amount of publicity and
beliefs that come with pseudoscience, people start to become delusional because of their want to
witness a UFO or the infamous Bigfoot. When one is in an area that is said to contain the possibility
of UFO's, such as the Northwest, the possibility that a UFO will show up can be deceiving and lead
people to depict objects in the distance as such phenomena. In Nickell's second article, the
"Mysterious Entities of the Pacific Northwest Part 2", a pilot claims to have a seen a group of
UFO's, when further investigation revealed that the objects turned out to be pelicans. "A veteran
Northwest Airlines pilot who has flown over the Pacific Northwest's 'flying saucer' country for 15
years spotted nine "big round discs weaving northward two thousand feet below us." Capt. Gordon
Moore stated, 'We investigated and found they were real all right–real pelicans'" (117). This claim
was made soon after two scientists Arnold and Johnson claimed to have seen numerous amounts of
UFO's while flying in the Cascade Mountains. The short duration of time between these two claims
shows that your brain can play tricks on you when trying to witness pseudoscience. Had the
possibility of UFO's never been brought up, Moore, the pilot, would probably never

Northwest General Case
The Emergency Room (ER) at Northwest General (A) 1. What is your opinion of the level at which
the data is being collected? What are some of the advantage and this advantage of collecting data at
this level? * My opinion on the data at which the data is being collected would be very taskfull for
the forecaster. The actual data should be presented and emphasize by shift in order to have an
accurate forecast or the census of the number of patient and to determine the number of staff needed

Analyse your data for patterns. Can you find any? * For the new set of data please refer to the next

of the whole month, per day or per of the whole month. If you will look at the computation of the
data in the per hour of the same day for the whole month, it is consistent to have more numbers of
patients in the afternoon from 1pm to 3pm. This is maybe because of traffic accidents, and most of
the people are already outside of their house and they are already prone to accidents. There were
also high demands in the ER in the middle of the night from 10pm to 12 mn. In my opinion most of
the patient at this hour is either due to drunkenness so they meet an accident or maybe because of
the tiredness some of the drivers fall asleep for a moment while driving vehicles. If we also base our
observation to the pattern of days, it is already observable that there were high demands for the ER
from Friday till Sunday. Of course for workers and students, it is the best time to go out like parties,
group gathering, family bonding and etc. most of the times and some unexpected events and
accidents occur during those days. And lastly if we will observe the computed data in a weekly
manner, it is hard to determine the pattern. It is difficult to identify the

Mistaken Identity In Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest
Stirring and innovative, Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 thriller North by Northwest is a meticulous and
mysterious tale of mistaken identity. Starring one of the most prominent and suave leading actors in
classic Hollywood, North by Northwest depicts Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill – a New York hot
shot mistaken for the enigmatic 'George Kaplan'. Furthermore, the film follows his quest to clear his
name and intercept the devious plan of a secret consortium that aims to discredit the US
Government. The shot from 14:25 to 14:45 makes use of lighting and camera techniques to
foreshadow Thornhill's involvement with the law, the enigmatic Vandamm and his devious cronies.
Ultimately, this evaluation proposes that the shot is one of the most pivotal and integral ... Show

North By Northwest Identity
Comparing the protagonists and antagonists seen in the films North by Northwest and Inception it is
revealed that false identity will bring despondency and concern. By comparing the two films
together we can closely relate the Idea of false identity and how it does bring a state of
despondency. North by northwest demonstrates this using The protagonist Roger Thornhill as well
as the Antagonist Vandamm. In inception it is shown by using the Protagonist Dominick Cobbs and
the Antagonist Mal Cobbs. Misguided information plays a role in North by northwest when
Vandamm Suspects Thornhill of being Kaplan. When two criminals are searching for a "george
Kaplan" at a hotel bar, they run into Roger thornhill, who is mistaken for Kaplan by two criminals ...

When the film opens we find Dominick cobbs washed up on a shore, who is taken to palace. We
then meet a woman he do not yet know who she is but later it is revealed that she is Mal Cobbs,
Dominick's wife. It is here when we first see the struggle Cobbs is put through whenever Mal
appears, we learn that Mal is dead and that the woman we see is a part of cobb's dream. Upon seeing
Mal, Cobbs finds it near impossible to determine the reality of Mal, It's as if he thought she never
died. Cobbs had created a false identity of Mal in his head. Mal has such an impact on Cobbs
throughout the film that if cobbs were to run into Mal, the only way he can decipher whether he is in
reality or not is by using his totem, the spinning top. If the top were to fall, he knows he would be in
reality, if it never stopped spinning, he is in a dream. During the peak of the rising action cobbs is
seen holding a sniper and aiming it towards the room where Fischer is to give him protection. As the
scene progresses cobbs eliminated any threats in the room, all but the one who showed up from
above mysteriously, Mal. After seeing Mal Cobbs struggled to decipher whether she was real or not.
The shot jumped back and forth between Cobbs and the room, ultimately, Fischer was killed. Mal
had shown up multiple times throughout the film and every time Cobbs found it nearly impossible

Pacific Northwest Dialect Essay
Introduction The country of America consists of many dialects. This essay will, specifically, be
focusing on the dialect of the Pacific Northwest. It mainly includes the states of Washington,
Oregon, and Idaho. Other states such as Montana and Wyoming could be arguable as being part of
the Pacific Northwest as well. The Standard American English dialect (SAE) is, in many ways,
similar to the Pacific Northwest dialect as well as different in other ways. The following essay will
go into detail of the unique linguistic features that the Pacific Northwest dialect comprises of.
Phonology

Northwest dialect compared to the SAE. For example, they ... Show more content on

Syntax Based on what I heard from the Youtube video file, their syntax, or their formation of
grammatical sentences, sounded exactly like the Standard American English. There were no
grammatical differences from the sentences spoken that I could comment on. I could not compare
the IDEA Washington file due to the fact that all the speakers from that site read from the same
dialogue.
Lexicon
In Wassink's article "Sociolinguistic patterns in Seattle English", she found that hypercorrection was
found in many younger female speakers, which could be in result to the gender effect (Wassink,
2015). This was an observation based off some of Reed's data, which I was unfortunately not able to
find. After watching the Youtube video, I was able to see how they used some words differently, and
not just how they pronounced their words differently, phonetically. When they were speaking about
Coke (which I believe is what most people call soda in the Standard American English) both girls
shown would call it pop. Another difference I found was that they call a TV remote a remote, but I
found that a lot of people I know call it a flicker, including

The Pacific Northwest Region Is A Good First Step
While we have been focusing on the whole Pacific Northwest region as a whole this class, we have
finally delved into a subregion that is close to all of us: the Inland Empire. This area in the Pacific
Northwest came into being during the late 19th Century and encompassed much of Eastern
Washington, the Idaho Panhandle and parts of Eastern Oregon. The people of this region were very
proud of their land and some even held more pride for the Inland Empire than their own state. This
fierce loyalty to one's home was just as much a product of economic growth as many of the other
changes being see all around the Pacific Northwest in general. The Inland Empire was, and is, an
important subregion that was born of economic development and competition with the cities on the
coast.
To set the stage for the Inland Empire, a broader look at the changes occurring throughout the
Pacific Northwest region is a good first step. Around the late 19th century, the region was
experiencing economic boom. Industrialization of many of the region's commodities like salmon
processing flooded the region with money and immigrants. These peoples came from the Far East to
work in the factories and lumber mills that were making Seattle and other cities such as Portland
and Tacoma booming hubs of trade. Foreigners took note of the changes as well, Rudyard Kipling
was just a young man when he visited the region but he wrote about the progress in his journals.

The Northwest Territories in Northern Canada
The Northwest Territories is a large mass of Northern Canada. This territory has many advantages
regarding its physical and social settings. The three factor that make the Northwest Territories an
adequate territory to live in is the economy, population, and physical geography.
The economic factors contribute to the Northwest Territories' accomplishments. The main industries
in the Northwest Territories are tourism and mining. Since the ground has permafrost and is
unsuitable for farming and agriculture, we use the land for other resources. The Territories' most
valuable natural resources are minerals. Copper is extracted on the Coppermine River and oil is
pumped on the Mackenzie River. Gold and diamonds can also be found in the region. The amount of
diamonds makes the Northwest Territories the third largest manufacturer of diamonds in the world.
The territory also has silver, cadmium, lead, tungsten, zinc, and nickel. As measured by the GDP,
The Northwest Territory's economy is highly influenced by the global economy. Its workforce
currently has the highest average income in Canada and amongst the lowest tax rates in Canada. As
of January 2014 the employment rate was 68.4 percent. With its success in industry and increase in
population, the Northwest Territories will continue to thrive for a better future.
Its population is among one of the greatest aspects of the Northwest Territories. Although it is large
in size, the territory has a sparse population. In 2011 its

Essay about The Northwest Passage
The opening up of the north polar sea between 1815 and 1817 had prompted Barrow to propose a
plan to send two expedition voyages, one in search of the Northwest Passage and the other to
proceed from the sea of Spitzbergen towards the North Pole. Accordingly he sent the plan to the
President and Council of the Royal Society which duly returned with their approval and the orders
were issued by the Board of the Admiralty. Examining such interplay between scientific institutions,
such as the Royal Society and the British Admiralty, one can see a well defined division of labour, in
the collaboration between gentleman scientists at home and their field workers in the navy ship on
voyages of exploration, in which the navy sent the ship to collect ... Show more content on

On one side there are those who regard the naval scientific expedition as an instrument for
imperialism, such as Jane Samson in the 'That Extensive Enterprise', in which she had indicated that
there was considerable evidence of imperial tendency in Berthold Seemann, who as the naturalist on
board the Herald in responded to landscape and noted connections between the collection of
scientific data and the interests of British commercial and political expansion. In her analysis, she
shows that the characteristic of many explorers and naturalists on the naval scientific expeditions
evidently represent the tendency towards imperial power and the exploitation of nature. She states
that, 'Naval survey expeditions did far more than chart coast lines; they also mapped Europe's
conquest of the non–European world, cataloguing the future of empire'. This was amplified by Janet
Browne, who emphasised the activity of naturalists in studying animal and plant distribution
patterns or biogeography as a proxy for colonial ideology, in which 'interpretations of animal and
plant distribution patterns over the globe...were intimately related to the emerging ideology of
colonialism'. On the other side there are some naval historians, who believe that international
cooperation in science between imperial rivals and the number of foreigners involved in

Life In The Northwest
The abundance of inexpensive land in the Northwest Territory gave opportunities to make a living
for many people who came. However, life in the Northwest was daily challenging to live in back
then, as a settler came in to settle down in those lands, they had to fight against Native Americans as
well as with the environment. However, eventually as more and more settlers came into the land,
towns and cities developed from trading posts as transportation improved and populations increased.
Indians and settlers faced harsh winters as they continued to live neck and neck with each other,
each was a threat to the other in the fight for survival. With all the much needed supplies in the East,
being hard to get to, it had also became a challenge to the settlers, being as they were hard to get to,

North By Northwest Identity
Mistaken identities are key elements in archetypal thrillers as they add to the suspense of the film,
by constantly diverting the viewer's expectations of the character. In North by Northwest, Hitchcock
incorporates one of his main character conventions of an innocent man being framed for a crime he
didn't commit. In North By Northwest, Thornhill is mistaken for a fabricated agent and is made to
believe that he was the cause of Townsend's murder. Furthermore, Because of this misunderstanding
everyone from his mum to Vandam, refuse to believe him about the fake identity. This is apparent in
the film when Vandam states "Has anyone ever told you that you overplay your various roles rather
severely Mr. Kaplan?". Implying that Thornhill However,

Introduction The following information outlines current recruiting events and the changes that
should be incorporated within Northwest State College to make staffing new instructors more
streamlined. Less Appealing Instructor Position Northwest State College has 900 students majoring
in business with only seven full–time instructors. The workload for an instructor would be
enormous and time consuming. There are part–time instructors who are used as needed, but no
guarantee this would occur to alleviate the burden of the class size. Pay scale is less than competing
colleges in the area even for those with an MBA. Without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The recruiter also limits their selection of choices by only visiting and soliciting candidates from
various professional meetings. Current Approval Process Northwest State College's approval
process is a bit outdated. It takes the college two months to complete their hiring process, which
would make it hard for them to compete with other colleges who are quicker to make decisions and
extend offers. Select Choice: Other schools would staff the more qualified and sought after
instructors, leaving Northwest State with the bottom of the barrel, if they were able to extend offers
in half the time. If they are not able to staff adequately trained instructors then what they are
teaching the students would be less than par and could lead to them going elsewhere for their
education. Overhaul Recruiting System Northwest State should open recruiting to job fairs, internet
job boards, their college website and classrooms. They should also offer a quicker turn around time
for staffing with a competitive salary/benefit package. Classroom and Job Fairs: The recruiter
should be a guest speaker in the classrooms in an attempt to recruit in–house instructors after
graduation. By soliciting instructor's right after graduation they are more likely to accept the
challenge of oversized classrooms and low pay.

Deforestation of the Pacific Northwest
Deforestation of the Pacific Northwest One of the most controversial areas associated with the
global problem of deforestation is the Pacific Northwest of the US. The problem can be broken
down into several issues that all tie in together. These include the near extinction of the Northern
Spotted Owl, the "business" aspect of logging versus the environmental aspect, and the role of the
government in this problem. In 1973, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was passed. This enabled
the Dept. of Commerce and Dept. of the Interior to place species, either land or marine, as either
threatened or endangered. Under these terms species could no longer be hunted, collected, injured or
killed. The northern spotted owl falls under the more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Guest speaker Jerry Howe would fall into this category as a private land owner. As a land "steward,"
he believes he can do what he wants with his land. The term "steward" is used to mean that no one
can truly "own" the land, it can only be used or under the care of a person. He uses clear–cutting
when it has the smallest effect on the environment, he also uses strip cutting in which the forest is
cut in strips to provide a buffer zone and is more aesthetically pleasing. His methods are better for
the forest due to conservative forestry practices that speed up the regeneration of the forest. This
produces a more sustainable yield than clear–cutting alone. While neither of these techniques is
good for the environment, using wise management practices can still produce a large profit while
conserving precious ecosystems. For large companies, such as Pacific Lumber, to switch to using
conservative forestry practices would take more than proposals by environmentalists and the Forest
Service to help the environment to change their current ways. For these companies to switch, it
would cost them money to follow the more sustainable approach while also decreasing their profit
due to less tree cutting in the short–term. In my opinion, it is up to the government to set standards
that force these companies to switch by making regulations more strict as well as a greater number
of them if need be. The role

Hydroclimate of the Northwest of the United States Essay
Although runoff and streamflow have generally decreased in the Northwest over the past century
(Luce and Holden, 2009), instances of flooding – particularly in rain–dominated and 'transition'
basins – have increased over the same period (Hamlet and Lettenmaier, 2007), and are often driven
by exceptional precipitation events. Impacts are basin specific and dependent on antecedent
conditions, though higher intensity storms generally result in increased flooding and runoff risk, and
such events can disrupt systems ranging from ecological (e.g. Knapp et al., 2008), to agricultural
(e.g. Rosenzweig et al., 2000), to urban (e.g. Rosenberg et al., 2010). Further, the synchronicity of

Gershunov and Barnett, 1998). ii. The Inland Northwest The region to the east of the Cascades is
typified by generally sunnier and drier conditions as compared to the PNW. Annual average
precipitation across the Inland Northwest (INW) is less than 50cm, with a greater percentage of that
precipitation coming during the late spring and early summer months. Lower average annual
precipitation amounts exist even within the higher elevation mountainous areas of northern Idaho,
northeastern Oregon, and western Montana, with annual averages of only 150–250cm as compared
to the 200–500cm MAP in the mountain ranges west of the Cascade crest (CESE, UW). The sub–
regional variability of MAP within the INW exists primarily as a result of orographic effects (is this

'extreme' can vary across studies. In some studies (e.g. Karl et al., 1995), if a fixed threshold value is
exceeded an event is considered extreme. However, this method for defining extreme events is not
suitable for a region like the Northwest with large spatial variability in rainfall amounts. A
preferable method is to define an extreme event at point i as one in which the precipitation total for

The Pros And Cons Of The Creation Of The Northwest Territory
The assertion that the creation of the Northwest Territory was one of only successful outcomes of
the United States of America under the Articles of Confederation is very true. The Northwest
Ordinance, or the Ordinance of 1787, was implemented by the Congress of the Confederation of the
States on July 13, 1787. The Ordinance provided for a more unified and structured territory. The
creation of the territory created the framework for the states that would eventually become a part of
the Union. The Ordinance also provided a formal legislature system with governors and judges until
the territory contained a minimum of 5,000 citizens, white males. At this point, they could send
delegates to Congress. As the territory grew, a state Constitution was submitted to Congress. The
submission of the constitution, subject to approval, would admit the state into the union. The
Ordinance also clarified that all newly admitted states, in the Union, were equal in power and
importance as the previous ones. In addition, the Ordinance also contained a declaration of rights for
citizens. It ensured that residents of the territory would be full citizens of the United States. The
Ordinance ensured basic rights such as habeas corpus, freedom of religion, and trial by jury ... Show

This passage of the ordinance, which took precedence over all unsettled lands to the federal
government and established the public domain, followed the relinquishing of all such claims over
the territory by the states. These territories were to be administered directly by Congress, with the
intent of their eventual admission as newly created states. The legislation was unlike anything at the
time as it established a precursor for new lands to be admitted into the Union, rather than under the
jurisdiction of the individually sovereign original states, which was the intent of the Articles of

Globalization in the airline industry may seem to be a natural flow of the business model. However,
some companies have a better fit, or culture that lends itself to a smooth and prosperous integration
into the global market. In comparing this integration into the global market one might take a
historical look at American and Northwest. Both carriers were formed just after World War I, as
mail carriers (3,4). Eventually both evolved into passenger carriers. Americans roots are traced to
Charles Lindberg and the cities of Chicago and St Louis (4). Northwest also has its roots in
Chicago, but their first routes went north to Minneapolis / St Paul (3). Northwest eventually evolved
into Northwest–Orient Airlines and expanded its routes into Japan, being the first airline to make a
profit in the Asian market without subsides (3). Northwest continued to globalize with their alliance
with KLM Airlines and eventual expansion into the Netherlands (3). American, on the other hand,
concentrated their growth in the Americas. With an extensive route system into Central and South
America (4), American Airlines seems to have centered its expansion in the United States. A
possible result of American's expansion, or lack of expansion outside the U.S., might have reduced
the artifacts that could have otherwise further enhanced their global culture mix and thus created a

history, societies have defined and transformed themselves through their art. When looking at works
of art today, a person sees not only the work of art itself, but also the world from which it came
from. The same is true for this transformation mask, which reflects the works of art and beliefs of
the Northwest Coast Tribes. Almost all artwork of the Northwest Coast Tribes has a story behind it.
This mask is about a young boy named Alikwamae who was successful and well known among the
people in his village. He was orphaned as a child and was therefore sent to live with his jealous
uncle who one day abused him in hopes that he would die. He was very weak when he woke up but
he found a mouse who took him to an Undersea Kingdom where he met the Chief of the Undersea
Kingdom, Kumugwe. Alikwamae wanted to help his people so Kumugwe gave him a power that
would allow him to transform into a sea bear. Alikwamae went back to his village and was able to

Early Pacific Northwest History Essay
The first three major eras of the Pacific Northwest show some remarkable changes. What begins
with the first people rapidly becomes a barrage of settlers, development and the harvesting of
resources. Each period of time in the PNW brings changes in the people, the geography, and the
culture. First is the Era of the First People. Scientific theories suggest that man first came to the
PNW via land bridges from Russia or perhaps waterways. Some legends suggest a similar nomadic
journey following the migrating animals or the work of spirits or Gods who created companions for
a lonely human; usually a mother figure.

The next era is that of Contact and Trade. Just after declaring independence from British rule,
Captain James Cook began an exploration of the PNW on behalf of the newly formed thirteen
colonies of the United States. Seeking the ever elusive Northwest Passage, Cook instead found
himself docked in Nootka Sound to repair his ships. Here he traded trinkets for local furs, an
unexpected valuable treasure. Cook also made stops in Alaska and wintered in Hawaii. Following
Cook, more explorations from the U.S., France, Britain, Russian, and Spain soon sought to discover
the treasures – however unknown they remained – and claim them as their own. The changes
brought on by these new explorers were vast ranging from depletion of local population due to
unfamiliar European diseases to new settlements to increased harvesting of resources. There were
also treaties made with the native Indians for land or goods. Still seeking the Northwest Passage,
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark began an expedition to the Oregon coast in 1804. While still
failing to find that passage, they do explore more of the west and PNW than anyone up to that time.
Among journals of native plants, native people, and many maps that opened the way for settlers,
Lewis and Clark opened the way for trade with their revelation that the

would allow the U.S to expand its boundaries out to the Pacific, it was adopted on july 13 1787.
That plan was made by the second Continental Congress. Before the northwest ordinance plan was
in motation there was another plan also made my the Continental Congress "Resolution on Public
Lands." The northwest territory ordinance was the first ordinance made. It was made to get all the
states north of the ohio river and west of Pennsylvania to become part of the union. The northwest
ordinance not only added more states but it also provided a stronger government. There was a bill of
rights that came with this ordinance that made the government a ... Show more content on

It also influenced how the United States is set up today. The ordinance guaranteed that the new
states would get treated the same as the original 13 states.
The northwest ordinance didn't just makes the 5 states part of the union but it also became the slave
free states. So slave that got released or free could go to any of those 5 states and live a normal life.
Some people would take the slaves papers and rip them up and send them back to the slave states to
make money. So that made it hard for the slaves to live a new normal life.
The troubles they had with this treaty was how divide the land into states. Because the population
had to reach 60,000 to become a statehood. But once that happened they divided the land north of
the ohio river into 5 states. The bill of rights played a important role in the northwest ordinance. It
provided a method for admitting new states to the Union from the territory, and listed a bill of rights
guaranteed in the territory. It also provides rights for the people living in one of the 5 states.

The Impact Of The Northwest Ordinance Of 1787
Throughout the course of United States history, there have been multiple occurrences in which
influenced and impacted the United States as it is today. Since the colonization of the colonies, the
United States has proven to have improved its nation through many acts, movements, political
persons, and governmental theories. However; the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, the creation of the
Erie Canal, Henry Clay's "American System", the Fugitive Slave Act, and the Emancipation
Proclamation were all specific occurrences and events that impacted the development of the United
States politically and economically.
The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was an important occurrence that effected the United States
politically and economically because it was one of the first movements that introduced the abolition
or freedom of slaves. The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was a land act that provided for orderly
settlement and established a process by which settles territories would become the states of Ohio,
Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. It therefore banned the slavery in these Northwest
Territories. Furthermore, this Ordinance prohibited slavery and ear marked funds from land sales for
the support of schools. The land ordinances of the 1780s were a great and enduring achievement of
the Confederation Congress. It therefore provided for an orderly settlement and the admission of

The Pacific Northwest Region In The United States: Analysis
Through the history of the Pacific Northwest region in the United States, it has been built on and
written with multiracial backgrounds. Especially, the oldest racial group, the Native Americans, has
been a profound beginning of the Pacific Northwest history. In addition, the irreplaceable Chinese
immigrants have become another significant part of the history. Fundamentally, these two groups
have contributed their lives to developments in the region, and their developments provide benefits
to other racial group. Yet, the Natives and the Chinese do not get valuable credits, and they do not
have imartial opportunities to express their voices like the white Americans. They become the a part
of the minority in the Pacific Northwest under the economic system and social structure. Despite the
economic and social imperfections, they still believe in themselves, that they would discover and
forge their own great American dreams like how their ancestors persevered the own American
dreams in the daunting circumstances. However, the Native and the Chinese receive consistent
ignorances under the economic model and the social structure in the Pacific Northwest.

Comparing The Inuit And Haida People
Inuit and Haida The Inuit and the Haida people can be very different at times. But they also can be
the same. The Inuits live in the Arctic and the Haida live in the forest. The Haida group also puts
underwater traps in lakes and rivers to trap fish. They also both gather nuts, berries, and eggs. They
use tools that are unique to them. The challenges that the Inuit people face are that they have a
chance of crushing, their ships when they go whale hunting because of the icebergs. A challenge that
the Haida people have is that they are chopping the trees down they can be crushed. Another
challenge that the Inuit have people face is that if they don't get warm then they can freeze to death.
Sometimes they face not even having food because it goes away from both tribes. Another thing for
the Inuit people is that they can get their boat sank because of big walrice. Also they have to get it

1. What exactly went wrong? How bad was this situation? Ans: There was a snowstorm on
Saturday, January 2nd, which was very serious and caused over 10 inches of snowfall. Northwest
Airlines had been too late to halt the departure of their planes from other cities to Detroit, on of its
largest hub. They made the decision to let 30 planes land in Detroit on Sunday, neglecting those 14
inches of snow and the severe weather condition. Luckily, all the planes were landed successfully
without any major accidents or disasters. However, the planes had to sit on the tarmac for over 8
hours before they could deplane their passengers. All the food, water and drinks were used up ...

Other airlines had claimed that they had not received any call from Northwest Airlines regarding the
situation nor asking any help from them. Also, the situation could be mitigated if Northwest Airlines
had integrated stairs on their planes. Spirit Airlines had in fact safely deplane their passengers using
the integrated stairs. The passengers were then immediately taken into waiting rental car company
buses to the terminal. The Northwest Airlines could borrow the appropriate mobile passenger stairs
from another airline to mitigate the situation, but they had not considered to do so. 3. Who is
responsible and why? Was the cause of this situation an "act of God" (the weather) or some
organization? If an organization was responsible, which was it? Ans: The Systems Operations
Control ("SOC") group had to be responsible for this situation. They are the one responsible for
monitoring and coordinating Northwest Airline's response to schedule problems and any other
potential problems. On Saturday, January 2nd, Northwest Airline's Chief Dispatcher had already
suggested that the conditions were bad enough to justify a shutdown of NWA's operations.
However, the director of the SOC department insisted to carry on the departures due to given that
conditions were still above legal minimums. He was the one to decide the NWA's operations at

The incident involving the Detroit snowstorm and Northwest Airlines is the quintessential of a
failure to deliver a "Now you're flying smart" experience for our travelers. The course of events
detail the experience of travelers, mis–calculated decisions by the ground staff and the lack of an
effective emergency response plan that should have been implemented to provide the promise of
delivering passengers from point A to point B.
The "act of god" and the associated repercussions in this case could have been managed and avoided

The experience quality of our passengers and frequent flyers were marred and the situation required
a drastic service recovery strategy to regain their confidence, loyalty and support in the long run. "A
good service recovery can turn angry, frustrated customers, into loyal ones... can in fact create more
goodwill than if things had gone smoothly in the first place"[Hart et al]. Hence, a team that looks at
the service recovery process from the view of the passenger would need immediate mobilization.
Personalized apologies in conversations followed up with a written note and compensation that
caters to the individual passengers' desire would be a necessity to avoid future litigations and court
cases. A timely note in the next 24 hours from the CEO to the media about the company's response
to the situation with key reasons and effective measures that prevent such occurrence in the future
will fortify the service recovery strategy.
Rationale: The above mentioned recommended step shows empathy towards customer by the senior
management and works towards bridging the trust deficit that was created between the customer and
the airline. The zone of tolerance had long been passed and the irate customers needed cajoling.
c. Northwest had been too late to halt the departure of the planes from other cities to Detroit. The

Summary: The Pacific Northwest
The Pacific NorthWest are bound to have natural hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis and floods.
For example japan, Japan sits at the intersection of three continental plates. The Eurasian,Pacific,
and Philippines. Which, these plates are rubbing together causing hard friction, resulting in an
earthquake. Tsunamis are a reaction from an earthquake, when earthquakes occur they shake the sea
floor causing tsunamis. And floods are caused when the pacific overflows its natural banks. In 2011,
Japan was experiencing several earthquakes a week. It became so common citizens began to stop
paying them any attention, and started laughing them off just like Chris Goldfinger. However, these
laughed at earthquakes were just foreshocks from "The Big One".

Northwest Ordinance Essay
The Northwest Ordinance is considered if not, one of the most important legislative acts of the
Confederation Congress. Officially titled "An Ordinance for the Government of the Territory of the
United States North West of the River Ohio" the Northwest Ordinance was a document adopted by
the Confederation Congress. Sometimes known as the Ordinance of 1787, adopted July 13, 1787, by
the Second Continental Congress established a government for the Northwest Territory. This
ordinance outlined the process for admitting a new state into the Union, and guaranteed that the
newly created states would in fact be equal to all original thirteen states, the Northwest Ordinance
also focused on protecting civil liberties and completely outlawed slavery within the new territories.
Adopting the Northwest Ordinance ended a long bitter period of debating how to organize the
western territories of the United States. Through the early part of the 1780 period congress reviewed
and considered countless proposals to govern the territories. Congress finally decided to pass the
Ordinance of 1785 which authorized the sale and survey of all government owned and operated
land. The adoption of this Ordinance required the Indians occupying the Ohio land to migrate due to
the surveying of the land. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

provide both a stable source of revenue and organizational pattern for the future settlers. Though,

Describe The Northwest Coast
Northwest coast By: Emerson, Cambell, Chevy Hello! This region we are talking about the
Northwest coast. We learned that they wore bark clothing because they had many more trees around.
It kept them warm and it was waterproof. Homes and shelters: The Pomo Indians used nearby trees,
such as redwoods, to build their homes. They would take a center pole and pile thick pieces of bark
against it. These homes were small, usually 8–10 feet tall. These homes were not portable, but they
were small and easy to build. (native–languages.org). Among the Indian tribes who lived here were

Northwest Passage Summary
Nearing the summer of 1804, Meriwether Lewis was selected to lead an expedition across the
continent in order to find a waterway that spanned the continent, the Northwest Passage, and also to
document new discoveries he made along the way. He picked his best friend William Clark to lead
the expedition with him, and they were "to ascend the Missouri river with a boat as far as it is
navigable, and then go by land to the western ocean if nothing prevents."1 Their mission, given to
them by Thomas Jefferson, who was president at the time; was of the utmost importance for
whoever found the fabled Northwest Passage first and controlled it, would effectively control the
entire continent. So they Corps of Discovery, as the expedition group was called, set off on a
journey they wouldn't return from for two years, four months, and ten days. The difficulties that
plagued their journey were many and numerous. One of the big difficulties that plagued the group
many times was trying to make good relationships with all the Native Americans they met along the
way, especially the Lakota. The Lakota Indian tribe wasn't friendly and was extremely powerful,
dominating over every other tribe. Oftentimes they intimidated the Spanish and French and
confiscated canoes and even cargo. When the Corps of Discovery came upon the Lakota tribe, they
"gave the 3 chiefs 3 new medals and one American flag, some knives, and other small articles of
goods", but the Lakota wanted bigger prizes to let them pass.

Social Responsibility Of KLM And Northwest Airlines
In 1967, KLM had moved their airport to Schiphol, Netherlands with improvements to the length of
the runway and the airport infrastructure. The 1970's introduced the new generation aircrafts called
wide–bodies. KLM found this as an opportunity to increase their transportation services by
purchasing the new Boeing 707. This aircraft has the capability to fit over 500 passengers. This
aircraft was the start of mass transportation for KLM as they are able to fly more passengers than
before. In 1989, for the first time in the history of air transport, an alliance was reached: KLM and
the US carrier Northwest Airlines merged to offer their customers convenient access to both their
networks. A first "open skies" agreement was reached in 1991 between the Netherlands and the
United States, allowing for all KLM and Northwest Airlines flights between Europe and the United
States to be operated on a joint–venture basis starting in 1993 (History, n.d.). After that, KLM began
mergers with other airlines such as NLM Cityhopper and Netherlines for domestic and international
routes.

A possible result of American's expansion, or lack of expansion outside the U.S., might have
reduced the artifacts that could have otherwise further enhanced their global culture mix and thus
created a better organizational fit. The cultural mix or organizational fit found at Northwest may
help to explain the greater adaptability of the corporation, in comparison to American. American, it
would appear, has a more centralized management structure that relishes its power and releases it
sparingly. American's stockholders appear to be second, possibly third, in line when it comes to
organizational decisions. First, it appears, in every decision American makes, is how it will effect
upper management. The greed shown by upper management has poisoned the adaptability and trust
that is needed by a global organization. This "cautious management" (2, 548) style was most
recently evident when management was asking the flight attendant union for pay concessions, while
at the same time insuring their financial future, with retirement and pay guaranties (4). The
"cautious management"(2,548) style is not as evident at Northwest. Although they have had their

its ability to adapt to the ever changing global environment is inbred in the Northwest culture. This
ability to adapt helps to insure that the needs of the customer, stockholder and

North By Northwest Essay
The film North by Northwest was released in 1959 and is a suspenseful film, directed by Alfred
Hitchcock. The films protagonist is actor Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill. He plays New York City
ad executive pursued by ruthless spy Phillip Vandamm after Thornhill is mistaken for a government
agent. Hunted relentlessly by Vandamm's associates, the harried Thornhill ends up on a cross–

In the opening scene Hitchcock uses the opening credits to create a scene of suspense and contrast.

This smoothness effect lets the scene cuts seem more natural which keeps the viewer engaged to the
story. North by Northwest is a film where the location of the key characters often changes
frequently. It is therefore important to incorporate the technique of 'establishing shots' to ensure the
viewers know what is taking place in the scene. The film North by Northwest uses a wide range of
camera techniques throughout the film in order to create a feeling of suspense and danger. The
establishing shots, close ups, medium shots, and shot–reverse–shots all play an significant role in
conveying suspense to the audience, while also creating continuousness as well as adding a
believable element.
Hitchcock avoids the killing scene cliché by placing Roger Thornhill in the middle of nowhere
rather than a cliché, for example, placing him in a dark street, with only the light from the street
lamp, the killer then comes from behind, emerges from the darkness and kills him. Instead
Hitchcock places Roger Thornhill in the uncommon position to most suspense films, a crop field.
This creates questions from the viewers, what's going to happen

Mysterious Entities Of The Pacific Northwest Part 1 Summary

  • 1. Mysterious Entities Of The Pacific Northwest Part 1 Summary "Mankind's imagination has always been excited by the possibilities of unknown regions" (Nickell, 109). In the article "Mysterious Entities of the Pacific Northwest Part 1", Joe Nickell explains the possibilities of pseudoscience, a presented scientific belief that is not yet scientifically valid, as well as the possibility of hoaxes. While there have been many claimed sightings of paranormal activity such as Bigfoot, Ghosts and the Loch Ness Monster, there has not been evidence to prove these claims as real. Almost everybody has heard their share of ghosts stories and the myths behind Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. These stories are universally shared, and recently, people have provided evidence claiming to have seen such mysterious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being the first to witness a true sign of a paranormal activity is a dream for many people who believe that humans are not the only ones in the universe today. With the amount of publicity and beliefs that come with pseudoscience, people start to become delusional because of their want to witness a UFO or the infamous Bigfoot. When one is in an area that is said to contain the possibility of UFO's, such as the Northwest, the possibility that a UFO will show up can be deceiving and lead people to depict objects in the distance as such phenomena. In Nickell's second article, the "Mysterious Entities of the Pacific Northwest Part 2", a pilot claims to have a seen a group of UFO's, when further investigation revealed that the objects turned out to be pelicans. "A veteran Northwest Airlines pilot who has flown over the Pacific Northwest's 'flying saucer' country for 15 years spotted nine "big round discs weaving northward two thousand feet below us." Capt. Gordon Moore stated, 'We investigated and found they were real all right–real pelicans'" (117). This claim was made soon after two scientists Arnold and Johnson claimed to have seen numerous amounts of UFO's while flying in the Cascade Mountains. The short duration of time between these two claims shows that your brain can play tricks on you when trying to witness pseudoscience. Had the possibility of UFO's never been brought up, Moore, the pilot, would probably never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are some of the advantage and this advantage of collecting data at this level? * My opinion on the data at which the data is being collected would be very taskfull for the forecaster. The actual data should be presented and emphasize by shift in order to have an accurate forecast or the census of the number of patient and to determine the number of staff needed to meet the demand of the patients. * At this rate there were advantage and disadvantage on the way the data has been presented. Can you find any? * For the new set of data please refer to the next page. * After computing there were patterns in the data presented if computed either the same hour of the whole month, per day or per of the whole month. If you will look at the computation of the data in the per hour of the same day for the whole month, it is consistent to have more numbers of patients in the afternoon from 1pm to 3pm. This is maybe because of traffic accidents, and most of the people are already outside of their house and they are already prone to accidents. There were also high demands in the ER in the middle of the night from 10pm to 12 mn. In my opinion most of the patient at this hour is either due to drunkenness so they meet an accident or maybe because of the tiredness some of the drivers fall asleep for a moment while driving vehicles. If we also base our observation to the pattern of days, it is already observable that there were high demands for the ER from Friday till Sunday. Of course for workers and students, it is the best time to go out like parties, group gathering, family bonding and etc. most of the times and some unexpected events and accidents occur during those days. And lastly if we will observe the computed data in a weekly manner, it is hard to determine the pattern. It is difficult to identify the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Mistaken Identity In Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest Stirring and innovative, Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 thriller North by Northwest is a meticulous and mysterious tale of mistaken identity. Starring one of the most prominent and suave leading actors in classic Hollywood, North by Northwest depicts Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill – a New York hot shot mistaken for the enigmatic 'George Kaplan'. Furthermore, the film follows his quest to clear his name and intercept the devious plan of a secret consortium that aims to discredit the US Government. The shot from 14:25 to 14:45 makes use of lighting and camera techniques to foreshadow Thornhill's involvement with the law, the enigmatic Vandamm and his devious cronies. • 5. North By Northwest Identity Comparing the protagonists and antagonists seen in the films North by Northwest and Inception it is revealed that false identity will bring despondency and concern. By comparing the two films together we can closely relate the Idea of false identity and how it does bring a state of despondency. North by northwest demonstrates this using The protagonist Roger Thornhill as well as the Antagonist Vandamm. In inception it is shown by using the Protagonist Dominick Cobbs and the Antagonist Mal Cobbs. Misguided information plays a role in North by northwest when Vandamm Suspects Thornhill of being Kaplan. When the film opens we find Dominick cobbs washed up on a shore, who is taken to palace. We then meet a woman he do not yet know who she is but later it is revealed that she is Mal Cobbs, Dominick's wife. It is here when we first see the struggle Cobbs is put through whenever Mal appears, we learn that Mal is dead and that the woman we see is a part of cobb's dream. Upon seeing Mal, Cobbs finds it near impossible to determine the reality of Mal, It's as if he thought she never died. Cobbs had created a false identity of Mal in his head. Mal has such an impact on Cobbs throughout the film that if cobbs were to run into Mal, the only way he can decipher whether he is in reality or not is by using his totem, the spinning top. If the top were to fall, he knows he would be in reality, if it never stopped spinning, he is in a dream. During the peak of the rising action cobbs is seen holding a sniper and aiming it towards the room where Fischer is to give him protection. As the scene progresses cobbs eliminated any threats in the room, all but the one who showed up from above mysteriously, Mal. After seeing Mal Cobbs struggled to decipher whether she was real or not. The shot jumped back and forth between Cobbs and the room, ultimately, Fischer was killed. • 6. Pacific Northwest Dialect Essay Introduction The country of America consists of many dialects. This essay will, specifically, be focusing on the dialect of the Pacific Northwest. It mainly includes the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Other states such as Montana and Wyoming could be arguable as being part of the Pacific Northwest as well. The Standard American English dialect (SAE) is, in many ways, similar to the Pacific Northwest dialect as well as different in other ways. The following essay will go into detail of the unique linguistic features that the Pacific Northwest dialect comprises of. Phonology In Foster and Hoffman's journal article, they state many phonological differences in the Pacific Northwest dialect compared to the SAE. For example, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Syntax Based on what I heard from the Youtube video file, their syntax, or their formation of grammatical sentences, sounded exactly like the Standard American English. There were no grammatical differences from the sentences spoken that I could comment on. I could not compare the IDEA Washington file due to the fact that all the speakers from that site read from the same dialogue. Lexicon In Wassink's article "Sociolinguistic patterns in Seattle English", she found that hypercorrection was found in many younger female speakers, which could be in result to the gender effect (Wassink, 2015). This was an observation based off some of Reed's data, which I was unfortunately not able to find. After watching the Youtube video, I was able to see how they used some words differently, and not just how they pronounced their words differently, phonetically. When they were speaking about Coke (which I believe is what most people call soda in the Standard American English) both girls shown would call it pop. Another difference I found was that they call a TV remote a remote, but I found that a lot of people I know call it a flicker, including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Pacific Northwest Region Is A Good First Step While we have been focusing on the whole Pacific Northwest region as a whole this class, we have finally delved into a subregion that is close to all of us: the Inland Empire. This area in the Pacific Northwest came into being during the late 19th Century and encompassed much of Eastern Washington, the Idaho Panhandle and parts of Eastern Oregon. The people of this region were very proud of their land and some even held more pride for the Inland Empire than their own state. This fierce loyalty to one's home was just as much a product of economic growth as many of the other changes being see all around the Pacific Northwest in general. The Inland Empire was, and is, an important subregion that was born of economic development and competition with the cities on the coast. To set the stage for the Inland Empire, a broader look at the changes occurring throughout the Pacific Northwest region is a good first step. Around the late 19th century, the region was experiencing economic boom. Industrialization of many of the region's commodities like salmon processing flooded the region with money and immigrants. These peoples came from the Far East to work in the factories and lumber mills that were making Seattle and other cities such as Portland and Tacoma booming hubs of trade. Foreigners took note of the changes as well, Rudyard Kipling was just a young man when he visited the region but he wrote about the progress in his journals. The three factor that make the Northwest Territories an adequate territory to live in is the economy, population, and physical geography. The economic factors contribute to the Northwest Territories' accomplishments. The main industries in the Northwest Territories are tourism and mining. Since the ground has permafrost and is unsuitable for farming and agriculture, we use the land for other resources. The Territories' most valuable natural resources are minerals. Copper is extracted on the Coppermine River and oil is pumped on the Mackenzie River. Gold and diamonds can also be found in the region. The amount of diamonds makes the Northwest Territories the third largest manufacturer of diamonds in the world. The territory also has silver, cadmium, lead, tungsten, zinc, and nickel. As measured by the GDP, The Northwest Territory's economy is highly influenced by the global economy. • 9. Essay about The Northwest Passage The opening up of the north polar sea between 1815 and 1817 had prompted Barrow to propose a plan to send two expedition voyages, one in search of the Northwest Passage and the other to proceed from the sea of Spitzbergen towards the North Pole. Accordingly he sent the plan to the President and Council of the Royal Society which duly returned with their approval and the orders were issued by the Board of the Admiralty. Examining such interplay between scientific institutions, such as the Royal Society and the British Admiralty, one can see a well defined division of labour, in the collaboration between gentleman scientists at home and their field workers in the navy ship on voyages of exploration, in which the navy sent the ship to collect ... On one side there are those who regard the naval scientific expedition as an instrument for imperialism, such as Jane Samson in the 'That Extensive Enterprise', in which she had indicated that there was considerable evidence of imperial tendency in Berthold Seemann, who as the naturalist on board the Herald in responded to landscape and noted connections between the collection of scientific data and the interests of British commercial and political expansion. In her analysis, she shows that the characteristic of many explorers and naturalists on the naval scientific expeditions evidently represent the tendency towards imperial power and the exploitation of nature. She states that, 'Naval survey expeditions did far more than chart coast lines; they also mapped Europe's conquest of the non–European world, cataloguing the future of empire'. This was amplified by Janet Browne, who emphasised the activity of naturalists in studying animal and plant distribution patterns or biogeography as a proxy for colonial ideology, in which 'interpretations of animal and plant distribution patterns over the globe...were intimately related to the emerging ideology of colonialism'. However, life in the Northwest was daily challenging to live in back then, as a settler came in to settle down in those lands, they had to fight against Native Americans as well as with the environment. However, eventually as more and more settlers came into the land, towns and cities developed from trading posts as transportation improved and populations increased. Indians and settlers faced harsh winters as they continued to live neck and neck with each other, each was a threat to the other in the fight for survival. In North by Northwest, Hitchcock incorporates one of his main character conventions of an innocent man being framed for a crime he didn't commit. In North By Northwest, Thornhill is mistaken for a fabricated agent and is made to believe that he was the cause of Townsend's murder. Essay On Northwest State College Northwest State College Sam Anderson MGT 212 November 21, 2011 Northwest State College Introduction The following information outlines current recruiting events and the changes that should be incorporated within Northwest State College to make staffing new instructors more streamlined. Less Appealing Instructor Position Northwest State College has 900 students majoring in business with only seven full–time instructors. The workload for an instructor would be enormous and time consuming. The recruiter also limits their selection of choices by only visiting and soliciting candidates from various professional meetings. Current Approval Process Northwest State College's approval process is a bit outdated. It takes the college two months to complete their hiring process, which would make it hard for them to compete with other colleges who are quicker to make decisions and extend offers. Select Choice: Other schools would staff the more qualified and sought after instructors, leaving Northwest State with the bottom of the barrel, if they were able to extend offers in half the time. If they are not able to staff adequately trained instructors then what they are teaching the students would be less than par and could lead to them going elsewhere for their education. Overhaul Recruiting System Northwest State should open recruiting to job fairs, internet job boards, their college website and classrooms. They should also offer a quicker turn around time for staffing with a competitive salary/benefit package. Classroom and Job Fairs: The recruiter should be a guest speaker in the classrooms in an attempt to recruit in–house instructors after graduation. By soliciting instructor's right after graduation they are more likely to accept the challenge of oversized classrooms and low pay. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He uses clear–cutting when it has the smallest effect on the environment, he also uses strip cutting in which the forest is cut in strips to provide a buffer zone and is more aesthetically pleasing. His methods are better for the forest due to conservative forestry practices that speed up the regeneration of the forest. This produces a more sustainable yield than clear–cutting alone. While neither of these techniques is good for the environment, using wise management practices can still produce a large profit while conserving precious ecosystems. For large companies, such as Pacific Lumber, to switch to using conservative forestry practices would take more than proposals by environmentalists and the Forest Service to help the environment to change their current ways. For these companies to switch, it would cost them money to follow the more sustainable approach while also decreasing their profit due to less tree cutting in the short–term. In my opinion, it is up to the government to set standards that force these companies to switch by making regulations more strict as well as a greater number of them if need be. The role ... • 15. Hydroclimate of the Northwest of the United States Essay Although runoff and streamflow have generally decreased in the Northwest over the past century (Luce and Holden, 2009), instances of flooding – particularly in rain–dominated and 'transition' basins – have increased over the same period (Hamlet and Lettenmaier, 2007), and are often driven by exceptional precipitation events. Impacts are basin specific and dependent on antecedent conditions, though higher intensity storms generally result in increased flooding and runoff risk, and such events can disrupt systems ranging from ecological (e.g. Knapp et al., 2008), to agricultural (e.g. Rosenzweig et al., 2000), to urban (e.g. Rosenberg et al., 2010). Annual average precipitation across the Inland Northwest (INW) is less than 50cm, with a greater percentage of that precipitation coming during the late spring and early summer months. Lower average annual precipitation amounts exist even within the higher elevation mountainous areas of northern Idaho, northeastern Oregon, and western Montana, with annual averages of only 150–250cm as compared to the 200–500cm MAP in the mountain ranges west of the Cascade crest (CESE, UW). The sub– regional variability of MAP within the INW exists primarily as a result of orographic effects (is this correct???). B. Extreme precipitation events in the Northwest i. Defining 'extreme' The definition of 'extreme' can vary across studies. In some studies (e.g. Karl et al., 1995), if a fixed threshold value is exceeded an event is considered extreme. However, this method for defining extreme events is not suitable for a region like the Northwest with large spatial variability in rainfall amounts. A preferable method is to define an extreme event at point i as one in which the precipitation total for the event falls within the xth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Pros And Cons Of The Creation Of The Northwest Territory The assertion that the creation of the Northwest Territory was one of only successful outcomes of the United States of America under the Articles of Confederation is very true. The Northwest Ordinance, or the Ordinance of 1787, was implemented by the Congress of the Confederation of the States on July 13, 1787. The Ordinance provided for a more unified and structured territory. The creation of the territory created the framework for the states that would eventually become a part of the Union. The Ordinance also provided a formal legislature system with governors and judges until the territory contained a minimum of 5,000 citizens, white males. At this point, they could send delegates to Congress. As the territory grew, a state Constitution was submitted to Congress. The submission of the constitution, subject to approval, would admit the state into the union. The Ordinance also clarified that all newly admitted states, in the Union, were equal in power and importance as the previous ones. In addition, the Ordinance also contained a declaration of rights for citizens. It ensured that residents of the territory would be full citizens of the United States. However, some companies have a better fit, or culture that lends itself to a smooth and prosperous integration into the global market. In comparing this integration into the global market one might take a historical look at American and Northwest. Both carriers were formed just after World War I, as mail carriers (3,4). Eventually both evolved into passenger carriers. Americans roots are traced to Charles Lindberg and the cities of Chicago and St Louis (4). Northwest also has its roots in Chicago, but their first routes went north to Minneapolis / St Paul (3). Northwest eventually evolved into Northwest–Orient Airlines and expanded its routes into Japan, being the first airline to make a profit in the Asian market without subsides (3). Northwest continued to globalize with their alliance with KLM Airlines and eventual expansion into the Netherlands (3). American, on the other hand, concentrated their growth in the Americas. With an extensive route system into Central and South America (4), American Airlines seems to have centered its expansion in the United States. What begins with the first people rapidly becomes a barrage of settlers, development and the harvesting of resources. Each period of time in the PNW brings changes in the people, the geography, and the culture. First is the Era of the First People. Scientific theories suggest that man first came to the PNW via land bridges from Russia or perhaps waterways. Cook also made stops in Alaska and wintered in Hawaii. Following Cook, more explorations from the U.S., France, Britain, Russian, and Spain soon sought to discover the treasures – however unknown they remained – and claim them as their own. The changes brought on by these new explorers were vast ranging from depletion of local population due to unfamiliar European diseases to new settlements to increased harvesting of resources. American, it would appear, has a more centralized management structure that relishes its power and releases it sparingly. American's stockholders appear to be second, possibly third, in line when it comes to organizational decisions. First, it appears, in every decision American makes, is how it will effect upper management. The greed shown by upper management has poisoned the adaptability and trust that is needed by a global organization.
