Rise Above Ebola
The latest outbreak of Ebola is one of the largest epidemics in history. Starting in West Africa, it has spread to neighboring countries such as Guinea,
Liberia and Sierra Leone, causing numerous fatalities (Darrel, 2014). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has identified five different strains of the
Ebola virus–Zaire, Sudan, Reston, Bundibugyo and Tai–with Zaire and Sudan cited as being the most harmful strains with 68% and 53% average
death rate respectively (Darell, 2014). The first strain of Ebola was discovered in 1976, in the Dominican Republic of Congo, and was contained until
the recent mutations of different strains (Felscher, 2013). There is evidence that experimental drug, ZMapp, has helped treat Ebola infected individuals
(Parshley,2014). Although ZMapp can be an expensive drug to produce, Ebola patients should be allowed to get access to this because it can help
control their prognosis and mortality rate.
Why is Ebola a Concern?
Ebola is a global concern primarily because the disease is deadly, and scientists and researchers have very minimal information about the newer strains
of Ebola. Due to the very little data, countries are less willing to send their top researchers to Ebola–stricken countries to conduct researches (Hewlett,
2007). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there has

The Transcontinental Railroad Was A Marvel Of Engineering...
November 17th, 2017
The Transcontinental Railroad is a marvel of engineering and perseverance. A transcontinental railroad is railroad that crosses through a continent. It
was built between 1862 and 1869 across the United States. The initial project was proposed in 1845, but it took more time to start the dangerous
construction. It had multiples consequences for the United States, not all positive. But the Transcontinental Railroad did affect the westward expansion.
In 1845, Asa Whitney, an important New York merchant, asked Congress for charters and funding for the construction of the railroad. Congress
refused, mainly because of Senator Thomas H. Benton of Missouri, who prefered that the transcontinental railroad originated from Saint ... Show more

When the Union Pacific Railroad starts building, it is in 1862, in the middle of the Civil War. There was a lack of labor since most people went to
fight. Because of the lack of workers, during the whole Civil War, only forty miles of track were laid from Omaha by the Union Pacific. However,
when the Civil War ended in 1865, the construction went much faster. The U.P. employed Irish immigrants and Civil War veterans to build the
railroad. The workers laid 1,087 miles of track between Omaha, NE and Utah. The Central Pacific Railroad had much less land to cover, but they had to
build through the harsh Sierra Nevada mountains. The workers were mostly Chinese immigrants that came to California from the Gold Rush of 1849.
They lived in brutal condition, and had very low salaries. "Quote buy some guy that i can 't find" The Central Pacific Railroad Company had to blow
up tunnels and level parts of mountain to get the railroad through.
The Bloomer Cut was the first major engineering problem for the railroad. It took a year to build, from 1864 to 1865. It was eight hundred feet long
and sixty five feet high, and it still exist to this day.
Another challenge was Cape Horn, a steep passage following the curve of the mountain at a thousand and three hundred feet high with a slope of 45 to
75 degrees.. It was named after the dangerous passage that ships use at the southern tip of South America.

The Conflict exists for many years, profits have been made from the illegal trade of diamonds, Rebels and warlords use the diamonds to buy arms.
There are many countries involved in the illicit trading the blood diamond, Sierra Leone, Republic of Congo, Liberia, and Angola.
This assignment is about the history of the Blood diamond, focusing on the Conflicts Issues, Ethical and Unethical Issues and what is been doing to end

The Story Of The Terrible Terrorism
Imagine that you've found the love of your life and that you really want to ask "the question". First, you need a proper diamond encrusted ring. You
spend hours, days looking for the perfect ring, and you finally find it. It's beautiful, and there's a guarantee that "You wont find any other ring like
this!" You immediately snatch it up, and bring it back home to hide in your closet. You quickly think about how this might affect your spending habits,
but you sit down on the couch and switch on the news. The usual bad things come on; wars in Africa, and you just tune it out. The word "diamond" is
uttered, and your attention quickly snaps to the television. The stories of the terrible terrorism that happens to the innocent villages that mine ... Show

Diamonds have no smell, and can't be detected by metal detectors. The only way these diamonds can be found is if every bag is taken completely
apart, and this takes an incredible amount of work. ("Diamonds of War")
These diamonds taken from war zones create mad rushes for power from rebel organizations as well as semi–legitimate governments. The rebel war
efforts want to take control of the villages that mine for these diamonds, and numerous amounts of human rights groups want to protect the people
living in these villages from becoming slaves. Laying down laws on terrorism in these countries, and stopping these illegal diamonds from making it
into commercial hands can prevent this. This has slowly stopped due to organizations like Kimberley Process, who prevent the illegitimate movement
of diamonds across borders. ("Diamondfacts.org")
This mad rush for power can have massive repercussions. In the 1990s, blood diamonds in Sierra Leone alone made up 4% of the world's rough
diamond population. Rebels were using these diamonds to pay for their conflicts. All of these different rebel groups were using one source of
diamonds to pay for practically their whole organization. ("Diamondfacts.org") Blood diamonds are mined in many African countries. One of these
countries is Angola. Angola has seen a lot of conflict over and with these diamonds. From 1975 to 2002, Angola had many civil wars in which rebel
forces used these diamonds to pay for ammunition or weapons. Another one

A Brief Note On Good News For Trail Pounders !
Not far from Ebbetts Pass in Alpine County, sapphire– blue Highland Lakes nest in a sub–alpine flat within Carson–Iceberg Wilderness at 8,600 feet
elevation. Flanked by Hiram and Folger Peaks, the lakes are located six miles off Highway 4 via a lumpy dirt road. Surprisingly, though the scenery in
this neck of the woods is utterly spectacular, it is very lightly visited. Truth is, the 161,000–acre wilderness bordering Ebbetts Pass sees fewer people
than any area in the entire Sierra Nevada. Good news for trail pounders! One explanation for a lonely landscape is the scarcity of lakes. But, there are
plenty of streams; the East Fork Carson River among them is a trout–filled beauty. If you are jonesing for trails that ... Show more content on

That said, this wilderness shows more evidence of volcanism than any other part of the Sierra south of the Lassen region. Highland Lakes offer a
smorgasbord of recreation for outdoor enthusiasts. Kayaking or canoeing on one of the lakes is bliss in this scenic, peaceful environment. Additionally,
a trail from the easternmost lake crosses big beautiful Gardner Meadow and leads to petite Asa Lake and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail. A trail
from the top of the campground across from the western lake leads to a jaunt up Folger Peak, a non–technical hike. Across from the same lake, hikers
can pick up an unofficial use trail to the base of Hiram Peak. Hiram Peak is also a non–technical trek, although along a stretch of ridgeline near the
top, acrophobes will get the willies and should stop. Views from the rather exposed section are nearly as panoramic as from the summit. A stroll
around the lakes is possible, too. Try your luck catching a trout or two for your supper. How about taking a swim? Of course, there's always
relaxing in camp with a good book or catching 40 winks. In my view, Highland Lakes' environs are a fine place to introduce kids to wilderness
activities, especially the short hike to Asa Lake. Here is how to get there. The signed Highland Lakes junction (8N01) is one mile west of Ebbetts

President Roosevelt's National Parks And Preservation...
As President Mckinley condition stabilized, post being shot, Vice–President Theodore Roosevelt embarked to view the vastness of nature in the less
developed west. His trip was cut short, as he got word that Mckinley's condition had turned for the worse. Mckinley was pronounced dead September
14, 1901; subsequently, Roosevelt was sworn into the presidency, along with his progressive views. Although this was not the start of the conservation
and preservation movements, extended from the late 19th through the early 20th century, it was a major step for the movement as Roosevelt had
empathy for activists and nature. The combination of a movement and a president who was willing to move resulted in five national parks and 18
national monuments being established by the end of Roosevelt's presidency. After the establishment of these parks, the lands were to be preserved by
federal government, but the political and economical agendas of those opposed to the conservation and preservation movements still endangered the
pristine land. The fact that it took a president to get assassinated, before any serious legislative help came to aid the conservation and preservation
movements. If the movement came in a more populated group, which could agree on how save the environment around us, then it wouldn't have taken
this mishap to get the ball rolling. The battle for Hetch Hetchy highlighted the different views within the movement, all in favor of environmental
protection. Years later

loving aunt, uncle, and many of her cousins. Mariatu's grandmother had always told her, "Whenever you dream of palm oil...blood will spill by
the end of the day" (Kamara et al. 25). Thinking back to this day, Mariatu believes she could have warned and saved the fellow villagers from the
horrific rebel attack, as she had encountered one of those dreams the night before the rebels invaded the village. Knowing her grandmother could
have "cast a spell to make the demons go away" (Kamara et al. 204). It causes Mariatu to think back to the day she told her aunt Marie about her
dream and wishes she would have listened to her earlier. Despite being a victim caught in a war zone and suffering an unimaginable trauma, Mariatu

The National Park : Yosemite Valley
One of Yosemite National Park's most visited sites is Yosemite Valley. Yosemite Valley is located in the Sierra Nevada around one hundred eighty
miles away from San Francisco, California. This magnificent, tucked away site was not discovered until the 1850s. Yosemite was not called a
national park until 1890, but had been protected by the state since 1864. While it was one of the first lands to be protected it was not the first
national park and because this land was protected so early on, it is thought that this process influenced or even sparked the idea of a national park to
preserve sites in the United States. It was in Yosemite Valley and surrounding area thatAnsel Adams started to recognize his passion for photography
in the 1920s and more importantly his passion for conservation. Ansel Adams used his photography to capture striking images of landscape in order
for tourist to see how important it was to preserve the land as it was found. Adams love for photography is a curious combination of the interest of
both his parents, Charles Hitchcock Adams and Olive Bray Adams. Charles Adams started to study astronomy at the University of California in
Berkeley yet was unable to finish because of problems in his family's business. He often shared his love for astronomy and science with Ansel;
together they shared an interest for stargazing. Olive Adams played the piano frequently when home schooling Ansel at a young age. He learned to

Nature : Conservation And Conservation
Americans began to worry about their connection with nature when cities gained popularity and frontier closed. In the late 1800's, Americans began to
take notice the land they relied on for resources was beginning to show signs of overuse (Roosevelt, Theodore). The two most prominent activists for
the conservation and preservation of American soil were Gifford Pinchot and John Muir. These two men both fought for regulation on how the land was
used, but disputed over what this use looked like. Pinchot believed in conservation which meant using the natural resources to serve the needs of
Americans for the longest time (Warren, 201). On the other side of the movement, Muir believed that man should leave nature untouched and left in its
purist form.(Muir 40) Conservation and preservation impacted not only the land but, also on the people who lived on the land. The conservation and
preservation movement benefited whites of upper and middle class who were able to earn a profit, explore, and utilize the nature that was being
conserved/preserved. Consequently, the conservation and preservation movements created greater hardship for those who relied on nature's resources
to survive, including, but not limited to the working class of Ely, Minnesota and the Indians in Yosemite National Park.
Ely, Minnesota is a prime example of how the conservation and preservation movement created a greater divide between the upper and lower classes.
The elites of Ely greatly benefited from the

The Role Of Private Military Contractors ( Pmcs )
Thesis: The role of private military contractors (PMCs) has expanded tremendously since the end of the Cold War when western governments began the
process of trimming their bloated military forces. As privatization commenced, governments began to rely upon a new kind of contractor that sold not
only hardware but also manpower and expertise. Even as conventional military forces declined, the need for highly capable, professional soldiers
remained pressing, especially in conflict prone areas around the world. PMCs filled these gaps, providing military assistance, advice, and security
services to governments, companies, and NGOs. However, the role of these companies, and the legal framework surrounding them remains up for
debate, and recent cases of misconduct with deadly consequences only muddy the waters further. The question remains: do PMCs serve to help or
hurt human rights in areas where they are deployed? In this paper, I will argue that PMCs do have a critical role in the modern battlefield as
providers of logistical, training, and security services, but their use in offensive actions or assistance with so called "black operations" should be
circumscribed to the point of nonexistence. I will analyze two cases studies where PMCSs were deployed: Iraq and Sierra Leone to determine the
positive and negative ramifications of their deployment. PMCs have upheld human rights in the vast majority of areas where they have been deployed,
and it has not been shown that they are

Compare And Differences Of Fidel Castro And Augusto Pinochet
Compare and contrast the manners in which two authoritarian leaders [Fidel Castro and Augusto Pinochet] established and maintained their rule during
their respective reigns.
Throughout the course of history, several authoritarian leaders have risen to power and maintained their acquired power through physical, violent
means. Two authoritarian leaders that have transformed their acquired power into dictatorial rights are Fidel Castro of Cuba and Augusto Pinochet of
Chile. Interestingly, Castro and Pinochet differed in their ideals about the ideal structure of governments. While Castro advocated for a socialist,
Marxist, anti–imperialist Cuba, Pinochet favored a anti–Marxist, anti–socialist, capitalist Chile. Despite their differing ideals, both shared several
similarities in their efforts to establish and maintain their power. Both individuals rose to power in a similar manner: a sort of coup d'Г©tat. Both
individuals maintained power through positive and negative means. Castro and Pinochet introduced several economic reforms that mostly benefited
the people of Cuba and Chile. While these economic reforms allowed for the financial freedom of many Cubans and Chileans, the dictatorial rulers
politically repressed the residents of Cuba and Chile. While many historians believe that Castro and Pinochet greatly differed due to their opposing
beliefs, both dictators share multiple similarities in the ways that they rose to power, negatively maintained power, and positively

The Development of Royal African Company Essay
England's interest in Africa for trading purposes can be traced back to 1481 when two Englishmen prepared for an expedition to the Guinea Coast.
At this time the King of Portugal, John II asked Edward IV of England if they could not continue with the expedition because of Portugal's claim to
the Guinea Coast, and Edward complied. It was not until 1536 when William Hawkins, father of famous shipbuilder in the Elizabethan era Admiral
Sir John Hawkins, made the first three voyages and traded with Brazil. Hawkins went back in 1553 to the Gold Coast and sold goods mainly for gold
near Elmina on the South Coast of present day Ghana. He then traveled inland to Benin where they obtained pepper and elephant teeth. After losing

Ebola Virus Outbreak Of West Africa
Imagine being isolated from your friends and family, suffering from an illness that feels as though something is burning through your body, while
watching people around you dying of the same illness and wondering when it will be your turn to proverbially "kick the bucket". For many survivors
of the Ebola disease, this situation would be far too familiar. In March 2014, the Ebola virus outbreak began in West Africa, mainly in Sierra Leone,
Liberia, and Guinea. According to a recent figure from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been a total of 28616
Ebola cases and 11310 deaths from Ebola in these three countries (2014). There were many unpalatable symptoms of the disease, such as "fever,
headache, joint and muscle pain, widespread bleeding, diarrhea and other physical symptoms leading to high mortality" (Van Bortel). If one is lucky
enough to survive this virus, however, there are just as many negative results of the virus as there were symptoms. Many West African survivors have
to deal with their new negative image, negative lasting health effects, or a decrease in financial stability due to their inability to work or find work
after they recover. Now that the West African Ebola epidemic is over, (Liberia) there remains the task of assimilating the survivors back into their
societies. Moreover, the best solution to counteract the effects of the Ebola virus on survivors is to expand upon the Ebola–survivor–support
organizations already in place.

Staring into the eyes of a photographed teenager who lost both hands to rebel's machetes at the Waterloo Camp in Sierra Leone I felt a surge of mixed
emotions: pain, compassion, anger, discontent and the need for a more effective campaign against "conflict diamonds."
Recently, rapper Kanye West raised the issue of conflict "blood" diamonds in his song "Diamonds" (featuring Jay–Z). Conflict diamonds – diamonds

The Film Blood Diamond By Edward Zwick
In the film Blood Diamond, the director Edward Zwick uses the opening and closing scenes to show the socio–political effects of western consumerism
in an underdeveloped society, in particular the Conflict Diamond trade and its effects, he uses this to highlight the idea of the 'boy being the diamond'
within the film. Consumerism is seen to be the cause of death and destruction in the once beautiful landscape of Africa with portrait shots of mountains
and beautiful sunsets. In both scenes the director uses camera shots, sounds and overall mis–en–scene/editing to create these themes/ideas.
The socio–political thriller brings chaos and brutality to the forefront of what is a little known conflict trade. While the movie is full with dynamic
characters the real "star" that is brought to light is the diamond, of which many audience members could be adorned in, making the realistic side of the
film more obvious. The movie aims in this way to leave to audience with the question "Is there Blood on my hands?"
In the first scene Zwick uses camera angles and dialogue/sound to emotionally grab the viewers and to shock/intrigue them. The scene opens with a
fire lit match, showing a poor family, everything is quiet and settled in their home front until a group of rebels storm their small village and take
Solomon captive. Against the background once portrayed as serene, a man has his hands amputated and is subsequently killed by the rebels. The scene

Imagine living in a country, where the average life expectancy for men and women in the year 2017 is 49 years old. Imagine living in a country
where electricity is one of the hardest things to obtain. Imagine living in a country with over 60% of the country's population living below the poverty
line. Imagine living in a country that has suffered greatly through civil wars, epidemics, and environmental climate disasters. Just imagine being from
a country that is rich in the world's most precious minerals but still classified as a third world country. What country is that you ask? Its Sierra Leone
of course, named the 11th poorest country in the world located in West Africa. A country who has been going through economic, political, and social
challenges for over two decades now.
July 09 2004, I was about eight years old, excited to travel on a plane for the first time in my life and finally getting to visit what my parents called
"Sweet Salone." I didn't know what to expect when I got to Sierra Leone. I thought it would look just like America but boy was I wrong. As we
arrived I saw nothing but bushes, trees and little houses made out of sticks, and aluminum. I was a bit confused as to what was going on but was hard
to see because it was dark. Once we got to Freetown everything started to change, I started seeing better buildings, stores and restaurants and was a
little bit more courage about being there. As we roamed the streets during the day, that's when I really got to see the good and the bad of the country.
What struck to me the most about the country was the way the hospital buildings were and how they were ran.
Almost every hospitals building is old, run down, no air condition, and have many broken windows. The hospital barely has enough hospital beds for
patients, and very few stable equipment for doctors to use and very little to no sanitation. The lack of experienced doctors and nurses makes it hard for
patients to get treated for long term care and sometimes short term care. As I visited the hospitals I just couldn't believe my eyes, although I was only
eight years old I still didn't expect to see what I saw and hoped for a change. December 2016 was certainly a life changer for me. That was the

Comparing John Muir And Theodore Roosevelt's Camping Trip...
John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt went on a camping trip in Yosemite Valley. They went in March of 1903. They planned a camping trip because
they planned to preserve nature in Yosemite Valley. For thirty years John Muir has tried to persuade people to preserve the area but it wasn't easy.
Soon enough he got a letter from Roosevelt saying he wanted to go on a camping trip with just Muir. According to Fleming ВЁ Roosevelt already
expressed his outrage over destruction of the wilderness.ВЁ. Muir agreed to guide Roosevelt. Roosevelt was dazzled by Yosemite Valley that he went
on to give a speech saying ВЁThe sequoias deserve protection, simply because it would be a shame to let them disappear.ВЁ according to Fleming.

Sierra Leone : The Area Highest Hit By Ebola
Sierra Leone was the area highest hit by Ebola currently as of the 17th of January, 2016 out 15216 laboratory confirmed cases 8705 of those were
from Sierra Leone. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016) It not been where this Ebola outbreak started but when it got there, it hit the

the outbreak settled down. On November 7th of 2015, the World Health Organization officially declared Sierra LeoneEbola free. (Centers for Disease

Even with them trying to create a vaccine, they would not be easily able to vaccinate enough to and quick enough to even possibly consider an
attempt at a social immunity. Not just the low level of medical facilities is an issue. With many diseases as vaccine or medicine can help prevent
coming down with or dying from the disease. Currently, there is no FDA–approved vaccine or medicine available though they are working to create
one. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015) The disease itself continues to help with its own spread due to the fact that survivors can
still carry Ebola in certain body fluids, the main way to pass on the virus is coming in contact with most bodily fluids of an infected. Men can carry
the virus in their semen from as long as 9 months. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015)
To control an outbreak as well as keep it check or even possibly get rid of it, you need to have help available and as well as the support of the
community. Informing and working with those that are at risk can be a big help in keeping down the spread of a disease. If you try and tell
someone something they do not want to believe or do not want to hear, they will just ignore you anyway and do as they wish even if it is not what is
best for the group as a whole.

Diamonds Controversy
Diamonds are made of carbon so they form as carbon atoms under a high temperature and pressure; they bond together to start growing crystals.
Diamonds are formed underneath the Earth's surface requiring them to be mined for, which can be a very high labor task. Out of the top ten countries
in the world with the most diamonds, Africa has six of those countries (Said, Sammy. "Top Ten Countries with the Most Diamonds Found"). With six
African countries being among the world leaders in diamond mining and exportation brings a lot of controversy. Some of these African countries have
already been banned in the past from mining and exporting diamonds for many human rights violations. Angola is one of the world's leading exporters
of diamonds. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The distribution and production of diamonds is largely controlled by a few key players, the main one being Antwerp. Antwerp is where 80 percent of
all rough diamonds, 50 percent of all cut diamonds, and 50 percent of all rough, cut and industrial diamonds are controlled. In New York almost 80
percent of the world diamonds are sold. De Beers is the world's largest diamond miner and holds a governing position in the industry, and has done
so since it was founded in 1888. De Beers owns or operates a large portion of the world's rough diamond production mines and distribution
networks. The DTC or Diamond Trading Company is a subsidiary of De Beers and markets diamonds from De Beers run mines. After being mined
the diamonds are then sent to be cut and polished. The polishing and cutting of diamonds is a specific skill that is done in a limited number of
locations worldwide. Original diamond cutting centers are Amsterdam, Antwerp, Johannesburg, New York, and Tel Aviv. More recently, due to the
lower labor cost, diamond cutting centers have opened in China, India, Namibia, and Botswana. Diamonds which have been prepared as gemstones,
such as the ones you would see in most engagement rings, are sold on diamond exchanges called bourses. "There are 28 registered diamond bourses in
the world" (Linetskaya,Yelena. "Big Apple Secrets").

West Africa is know for its rich trading empire, natural landmarks, for their beautifully designed cloth, and jewelry.
To begin with, West Africa is known for its interesting land features, landforms, and its gradually changing climate. For example, Lake Chad is one of
West Africa's well known features. Lake Chad is one of Africa's largest freshwater lake, and is know for its shrinking over time in size. Some other

Natural resources contribute a huge part in this region. The two main products in this region include gold and salt, which were traded across the
Sahara for many years. Another major contributor is the export of diamonds, gold, and magnesium. Although not many countries in this region are
as fortunate, Ghana relies on the export of these products, which resulted in a Per Capita Income of $1,900. Although this is a very high income for
this region, it is still low compared to the industrialized world. Even though resources play a huge part in this region, culture also contributes to what
the region is like today. For example, The two main types of cultures in West Africa are the Ashanti and the Benin. The Ashanti resides in Ghana, and
is known for their work in colorful weavings which are known as Kente cloth. The designs on this cloth always provide a specific meaning. They are
also known fro carving wooden stools, which represent unity between ancestral spirits and members of a family. The country of Benin however, has
artists that have made objects out of metal and Terra Cota. They are also famous for their statues, masks, and jewelry.

Sierra Leone : Corrupt From Blood Diamonds
Sierra Leone: Corrupt from Blood Diamonds
Isn't the invention of the cotton gin beautiful, almost a miracle that it could produce more cotton without as much work there was to be executed?
This was true, until slave owners in the 1800's decided to buy even more slaves to increase their profits more than ever before, much like how the
industry of blood diamonds worked. Blood diamonds have erupted to the scene as a major problem in the African nation known as Sierra Leone,
causing the major issue of government corruption. Ever science Siaka Stevens inflicted the type of government that would allow for such a resource to
become a weapon, diamonds became the most sought out product in all of North–western Africa. The reason why blood diamonds have stuck around
and isn't just a quick boost in the economic flow of money is because it forms an evident and vicious cycle, along with the concept of blood
diamonds spreading. Things such as law enforcement, poor leaders, and poor overall structure of government has made this the weak nation it is
today. The way this country has resided in diamonds to quickly fix poverty has proven its unhealthy reliance on a resource, eventually causing a civil
war. As blood diamonds become more prominent and vital to the African government, the diamonds have increased the spread and level of political
corruptions, much like how the cotton gin had caused a vicious cycle of the need for slavery.
The conflict diamonds started to be present and

Reflection Paper On Ohio State Fair
Ohio State Fair Everyone remembers something about their childhood. We all remember one specific day or event. We remember something or
someone about our childhood. We remember our school winter breaks, our long hot summer days and more. The perfect time to reflect though is in the
summer. Individuals have enough time to sacrifice in order to venture to their past. For children, summer is permanent freedom for three months while
for adults it is filled with memory lane. Last summer, I was at the Ohio State Fair. It was a beautiful, sunny day. The wind was blowing and out of the
corner of my eye, I recognized a longtime friend from secondary school. We embraced each other in friendship. I introduced him to my two
beautiful children. He was with his two children also. When I asked what he was doing there, he announced he had only come from Kentucky to
attend the Ohio State Fair. After the introductions, we decided to stay together as a group. It was a happy time and we talked about our relationships.
I told him about my beautiful wife of eight years. My friend could not say the same. He had experienced a divorce with the mother of his children. We
took a time to look at the different animals, which then made us reflect back to Sierra Leone. At this moment, I remembered had it not been for
summer I would not have had enough time to process such a thought. We watched our children ride roller coasters and simultaneously conversed about
life and back home. All the children

Factors that Influence Rainfall in the United States
A type of precipitation is rainfall and it develops when water vapor condenses into droplets in the atmosphere thus becoming too heavy to stay
suspended in the air so gravity causes them to fall. The pattern or occurrence of rainfall in the United States or basically anywhere in the world depends
on several factors such as ground elevation, wind directions, location within a continental mass, areas of low pressure, cool fronts, jet streams and even
mountain ranges. For instance mountains have an influence on wind and wind is an important feature in rainfall, "The windward sides of mountainous
islands in the trade wind regime are among the rainiest places on earth, where rains exceed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the pressure is 'high' it means that the air's pressure is higher than the pressure of the surrounding air in the area. A 'low' is where it is lower.
This means that where the air is slowly descending the pressure is high and vice versa. So, as air descends, it warms, which inhibits the formation
of clouds. This means that the air that descends in high pressure area has to get to high altitudes in some way which is why air actually rises in low
pressure areas. Winds tend to blow into low pressure areas because are moves from higher pressure areas into lower pressure areas. When the wind
moves into a low area the air moves up and eventually cools and rainfall comes about. Also the low pressure that causes the air to rise has to do with
the Criolis Effect, which is the force caused by the Earth's spin that redirects moving air to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the
Southern Hemisphere. According to meteorologist Tony Pann, who works with Coriolis Effect stated, "With the Coriolis effect, air circulates in
patterns that depend on latitude. At the mid–latitudes of the USA, most weather systems move from west to east. However, systems tend to move
from east to west near the poles and in the tropic" (Pann). The upslope flow is also related low pressure areas which is basically the result of air rising
and cooling while being forced to ascend to higher terrain.

Analysis Of Ansel Adams ' A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
A picture is worth a thousand words. This phrase has almost become cliched but it is a powerful statement that applies perfectly in photography. When
good photographers observe a powerful scene that moves them, they will use their talents, skills, and techniques to translate that power in their
photography. They can effectively allow their audience to feel the same power they did during their first observation. In turn, this communication of
power often returns power to the original scene. This is true in photography that conveys everything from human rights violations to family history to
nature. One photographer that took this journey with his art was Ansel Adams. At a very young age he felt a spiritual connection and inspiration with
Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada country. He honed his talent and technique as a photographer to capture that power and inspiration so that it
radiated from his final prints. As people observed his prints, they were moved and in turn provided power to protect the majesty of the wilderness
that Ansel so loved. Adams was an only child to his parents and his father "molded into his son a direct expression of Emersonian ideals, raised
above all to adore nature, the straightest path to the eternal." He struggled to fit in at school as he "was an odd, hyperactive child" who "grew
emotionally unstable and cried easily." and was eventually homeschooled. The nature loving boy was 14 years old when his family first visited the

Devils : National Monument Is Preserved And Protected By...
Devils Postpile National Monument is in Madera County, Mammoth Lakes, California on Western side of the Sierra Nevada. In 1911 Devils Postpile
National Monument was preserved and protected by the National Parks Services because of the two main geologic features present there that draw
attention to this area. The Formation of the Columnar Basalt (Devils Postpile), which named the monument and the other feature being Rainbow Falls.
Although Devils Postpile National Monument is relatively small, the 798 acres entices nearly thousands of visitors every year (Arnett et al. 367–368).
This land is home to naturally occurring beauty, great hiking trails, diverse habitats, numerous geologic features and much more which is why Devils
Postpile should be upgraded to National Park Status.
The history behind Devils Postpile started with the Native American Indians about 7,500 years ago who were living on the Sierra Nevada's. The Middle
Fork of the San Joaquin River was their main trade and was using the location for hunting. The forming of the geologic features go way back to
starting with the beginning of North America millions of years ago. The land that is now known as Eastern California, was covered by a shallow sea.
North America was slowly being pushed westward and oceanic crust was being pushed onto the side and being pulled underneath the continent. After
continuous repetition, this accretionary wedge formed. This is when some of the crust pushes up onto the edge of the

Sierra Leone is ranked the world's poorest country by the UN Human Development Index, with about 70% of its people living on less than 70p per

these mines are called conflict diamonds, or blood diamonds. Blood diamonds were used to finance civil war.
Several foreign journalists were killed here during the war.
African tribal war over nothing is more common than war over diamonds. Diamonds are a commodity. African nations benefit much from thediamond

In marine littoral deposits, which fall under the category of secondary deposits, diamonds are mined along beaches and underwater. Industrial diamonds
are also produced synthetically from graphite. Some synthetic diamonds conduct heat 50% more efficiently than natural diamonds and are five times
greater in strength.
Kimberlite mining would be able to place more control on smuggling and production than the current alluvial methods. However, capital outlays for the
development of a kimberlite mining operation are extensive. Kimberlites host the most common type of commercial diamond deposits. Approximately
12% of all known kimberlites contain diamonds, while only 2% contain economic quantities. Kimberlite pipes can lie directly underneath shallow lakes
formed in the inactive volcanic calderas or craters.
Alluvial diamonds were washed down into the coastal area from older, inland terrestrial terraces, by ancient river systems over millions of years. The

While no trip to any country is complete without sampling the regional food, the Camino allowed us to sample the local fare from a new town
every single day. I thought this was such a fantastic aspect of the trip because it forced all of us to try various items and not simply eat the same
old thing every day. Nearly every cafГЁ along the Camino served a pilgrim's dinner, which consisted of two entrees, bread, water and a dessert,
which ends up being a substantial amount of food by the time all is said and done. The pilgrim's dinner varied greatly in quality, but not so much
in menu choices, as many of the restaurants offered similar options. Towards the end of our Camino, we began to stray from the pilgrim's dinners
and indulge in tapas, or small plates, which allowed us to sample everything from tortadas to octopus, However, one option that was never offered
along the entire Camino adventure was free water at the dinner table. While water could be found in random locations scattered along the trail, the
idea of filling up water glasses at the table with water from a faucet was totally foreign to the Spanish. When a group asks for water, the waiter
brings bottled water to the table, which runs up the table's tab pretty quickly. Around the dinner table was also the location where I began to notice a
striking difference between American and Spanish culture. Every time I was sitting at the table, listening to all the members of my group speaking so
loudly you could hear them from across the room, I looked around at other patrons of the restaurant and noticed they weren't speaking nearly as loud.
In fact, you could hardly hear any of them at all. After noticing this phenomenon the first few times, I began to realize exactly why Americans are

The Imprefections of the Societies in The Maze Runner,...
Imagine a life where everything is perfect. Sadly this is not possible. Many societies that were thought to be perfect, like The Maze Runner, Nazi
Germany, Sierra Leone, and Ancient Greece figured this out the hard way. Societies fall due to corrupt leaders, lack of supplies, and a faulty security
system.
Societies fall due to corrupt leaders which is a political problem. What lead to the fall of The Maze Runner was the fact that they had corrupt leaders.
Their leaders all went off in some way or another. Alby was the first one to become corrupt. He burned the the papers which were the only chance the
gladers had at escaping. He was sobbing and just couldn't handle it all. Gally was another person who underwent these changes. He claimed to "know"
things about Thomas that others didnt.
Another once great society known as Nazi Germany fell due to this reason as well. Hitler was a crazed man who can easily be classified as a corrupt
leader. He did some crazy things that people today cant really explain. What we do know is he tried to trick people into thinking what he was doing
was right. In a sick way, he was a fantastic leader. He could convince the whole society that blaming everything on this group of people was the right
thing to do. Hitler basically convinced everyone that locking these people up was only for the sake of humanity, and things would be better after this.
Corrupt leaders can be a giant contribution to the collapse of an society, and that is why several

The Impact Of Ansel Adams On The Conservation Movement
Assess the impact of Ansel Adams as an influential figure in the conservation movement Intro
America's National Parks are deeply indebted to the American photographer Ansel Adams. Through his masterful photography, he turned Yosemite
National Park into an American icon. Ansel spent the majority of his life fighting for the National Parks through intense political activism. He was a
key figure in conservation in the United States, beginning in a time when environmental conservation was a rare concept.
From a young age he showed uncommon interest in wilderness and the outdoors and grew into one of the personalities most responsible for defining
what American wilderness means. In his twenties, Ansel demonstrated incredible mastery of the young art form of photography. Through his
friendships and collaboration with other artists and environmentalists and through his many prestigious art shows and published collections he gained
fame. He used his fame, strong personal voice and persuasive activism for environmental conservation causes such as ... and for environmental
organizations such as the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Society. In particular,Ansel Adams was inspired and captivated by Yosemite at a young age
and found the mountains to be his calling. His passion to preserve the park he experienced as a young boy fueled his efforts.

A Brief Note On The Outbreak Of Ebola

  • 1. A Brief Note On The Outbreak Of Ebola Rise Above Ebola Vanessa Aroonprapun Eric Cabus Darnell Ferrer Kristina Santos Somatey Tan American University of Health Sciences Rise Above Ebola The latest outbreak of Ebola is one of the largest epidemics in history. Starting in West Africa, it has spread to neighboring countries such as Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, causing numerous fatalities (Darrel, 2014). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has identified five different strains of the Ebola virus–Zaire, Sudan, Reston, Bundibugyo and Tai–with Zaire and Sudan cited as being the most harmful strains with 68% and 53% average death rate respectively (Darell, 2014). The first strain of Ebola was discovered in 1976, in the Dominican Republic of Congo, and was contained until the recent mutations of different strains (Felscher, 2013). There is evidence that experimental drug, ZMapp, has helped treat Ebola infected individuals (Parshley,2014). Although ZMapp can be an expensive drug to produce, Ebola patients should be allowed to get access to this because it can help control their prognosis and mortality rate. Why is Ebola a Concern? Ebola is a global concern primarily because the disease is deadly, and scientists and researchers have very minimal information about the newer strains of Ebola. Due to the very little data, countries are less willing to send their top researchers to Ebola–stricken countries to conduct researches (Hewlett, 2007). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Transcontinental Railroad Was A Marvel Of Engineering... November 17th, 2017 The Transcontinental Railroad is a marvel of engineering and perseverance. A transcontinental railroad is railroad that crosses through a continent. It was built between 1862 and 1869 across the United States. The initial project was proposed in 1845, but it took more time to start the dangerous construction. It had multiples consequences for the United States, not all positive. But the Transcontinental Railroad did affect the westward expansion. In 1845, Asa Whitney, an important New York merchant, asked Congress for charters and funding for the construction of the railroad. Congress refused, mainly because of Senator Thomas H. Benton of Missouri, who prefered that the transcontinental railroad originated from Saint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Union Pacific Railroad starts building, it is in 1862, in the middle of the Civil War. There was a lack of labor since most people went to fight. Because of the lack of workers, during the whole Civil War, only forty miles of track were laid from Omaha by the Union Pacific. However, when the Civil War ended in 1865, the construction went much faster. The U.P. employed Irish immigrants and Civil War veterans to build the railroad. The workers laid 1,087 miles of track between Omaha, NE and Utah. The Central Pacific Railroad had much less land to cover, but they had to build through the harsh Sierra Nevada mountains. The workers were mostly Chinese immigrants that came to California from the Gold Rush of 1849. They lived in brutal condition, and had very low salaries. "Quote buy some guy that i can 't find" The Central Pacific Railroad Company had to blow up tunnels and level parts of mountain to get the railroad through. The Bloomer Cut was the first major engineering problem for the railroad. It took a year to build, from 1864 to 1865. It was eight hundred feet long and sixty five feet high, and it still exist to this day. Another challenge was Cape Horn, a steep passage following the curve of the mountain at a thousand and three hundred feet high with a slope of 45 to 75 degrees.. It was named after the dangerous passage that ships use at the southern tip of South America. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You spend hours, days looking for the perfect ring, and you finally find it. It's beautiful, and there's a guarantee that "You wont find any other ring like this!" You immediately snatch it up, and bring it back home to hide in your closet. You quickly think about how this might affect your spending habits, but you sit down on the couch and switch on the news. The usual bad things come on; wars in Africa, and you just tune it out. The word "diamond" is uttered, and your attention quickly snaps to the television. The only way these diamonds can be found is if every bag is taken completely apart, and this takes an incredible amount of work. ("Diamonds of War") These diamonds taken from war zones create mad rushes for power from rebel organizations as well as semi–legitimate governments. The rebel war efforts want to take control of the villages that mine for these diamonds, and numerous amounts of human rights groups want to protect the people living in these villages from becoming slaves. Laying down laws on terrorism in these countries, and stopping these illegal diamonds from making it into commercial hands can prevent this. This has slowly stopped due to organizations like Kimberley Process, who prevent the illegitimate movement of diamonds across borders. ("Diamondfacts.org") This mad rush for power can have massive repercussions. In the 1990s, blood diamonds in Sierra Leone alone made up 4% of the world's rough diamond population. Rebels were using these diamonds to pay for their conflicts. All of these different rebel groups were using one source of diamonds to pay for practically their whole organization. ("Diamondfacts.org") Blood diamonds are mined in many African countries. One of these countries is Angola. Angola has seen a lot of conflict over and with these diamonds. From 1975 to 2002, Angola had many civil wars in which rebel forces used these diamonds to pay for ammunition or weapons. Another one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Brief Note On Good News For Trail Pounders ! Not far from Ebbetts Pass in Alpine County, sapphire– blue Highland Lakes nest in a sub–alpine flat within Carson–Iceberg Wilderness at 8,600 feet elevation. Flanked by Hiram and Folger Peaks, the lakes are located six miles off Highway 4 via a lumpy dirt road. Surprisingly, though the scenery in this neck of the woods is utterly spectacular, it is very lightly visited. Truth is, the 161,000–acre wilderness bordering Ebbetts Pass sees fewer people than any area in the entire Sierra Nevada. Good news for trail pounders! One explanation for a lonely landscape is the scarcity of lakes. But, there are plenty of streams; the East Fork Carson River among them is a trout–filled beauty. If you are jonesing for trails that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That said, this wilderness shows more evidence of volcanism than any other part of the Sierra south of the Lassen region. Highland Lakes offer a smorgasbord of recreation for outdoor enthusiasts. Kayaking or canoeing on one of the lakes is bliss in this scenic, peaceful environment. Additionally, a trail from the easternmost lake crosses big beautiful Gardner Meadow and leads to petite Asa Lake and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail. A trail from the top of the campground across from the western lake leads to a jaunt up Folger Peak, a non–technical hike. Across from the same lake, hikers can pick up an unofficial use trail to the base of Hiram Peak. Hiram Peak is also a non–technical trek, although along a stretch of ridgeline near the top, acrophobes will get the willies and should stop. Views from the rather exposed section are nearly as panoramic as from the summit. A stroll around the lakes is possible, too. Try your luck catching a trout or two for your supper. How about taking a swim? Of course, there's always relaxing in camp with a good book or catching 40 winks. In my view, Highland Lakes' environs are a fine place to introduce kids to wilderness activities, especially the short hike to Asa Lake. Here is how to get there. The signed Highland Lakes junction (8N01) is one mile west of Ebbetts Pass on Highway 4. The forest route is not recommended for trailers and big rigs. Follow the road for about ... • 7. President Roosevelt's National Parks And Preservation... As President Mckinley condition stabilized, post being shot, Vice–President Theodore Roosevelt embarked to view the vastness of nature in the less developed west. His trip was cut short, as he got word that Mckinley's condition had turned for the worse. Mckinley was pronounced dead September 14, 1901; subsequently, Roosevelt was sworn into the presidency, along with his progressive views. Although this was not the start of the conservation and preservation movements, extended from the late 19th through the early 20th century, it was a major step for the movement as Roosevelt had empathy for activists and nature. The combination of a movement and a president who was willing to move resulted in five national parks and 18 national monuments being established by the end of Roosevelt's presidency. After the establishment of these parks, the lands were to be preserved by federal government, but the political and economical agendas of those opposed to the conservation and preservation movements still endangered the pristine land. The fact that it took a president to get assassinated, before any serious legislative help came to aid the conservation and preservation movements. If the movement came in a more populated group, which could agree on how save the environment around us, then it wouldn't have taken this mishap to get the ball rolling. The battle for Hetch Hetchy highlighted the different views within the movement, all in favor of environmental protection. Years later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Summary Of A NovelThe Bite Of The Mango Mariatu Kamara and Susan McClelland's co–written non–fictional novel, The Bite of the Mango is a page–turning adventure through the mind of a young girl who struggles with many physical and emotional challenges in her daily life as a poor village girl in Sierra Leone. Mariatu Kamara is an eleven–year–old girl who has learned how to live without her hands. In result of being a victim and survivor of a rebel attack, Mariatu is now a double amputee and has made many lifestyle changes to work around her disability. Mariatu Kamara is very brave, determined, successful individual who stands as a role model for many individuals of all ages. She lives in a small village called Magborou of Sierra Leone with her loving aunt, uncle, and many of her cousins. Mariatu's grandmother had always told her, "Whenever you dream of palm oil...blood will spill by the end of the day" (Kamara et al. 25). Thinking back to this day, Mariatu believes she could have warned and saved the fellow villagers from the horrific rebel attack, as she had encountered one of those dreams the night before the rebels invaded the village. Knowing her grandmother could have "cast a spell to make the demons go away" (Kamara et al. 204). It causes Mariatu to think back to the day she told her aunt Marie about her dream and wishes she would have listened to her earlier. Yosemite Valley is located in the Sierra Nevada around one hundred eighty miles away from San Francisco, California. This magnificent, tucked away site was not discovered until the 1850s. Yosemite was not called a national park until 1890, but had been protected by the state since 1864. While it was one of the first lands to be protected it was not the first national park and because this land was protected so early on, it is thought that this process influenced or even sparked the idea of a national park to preserve sites in the United States. It was in Yosemite Valley and surrounding area thatAnsel Adams started to recognize his passion for photography in the 1920s and more importantly his passion for conservation. Ansel Adams used his photography to capture striking images of landscape in order for tourist to see how important it was to preserve the land as it was found. Adams love for photography is a curious combination of the interest of both his parents, Charles Hitchcock Adams and Olive Bray Adams. Charles Adams started to study astronomy at the University of California in Berkeley yet was unable to finish because of problems in his family's business. He often shared his love for astronomy and science with Ansel; together they shared an interest for stargazing. Olive Adams played the piano frequently when home schooling Ansel at a young age. • 11. Nature : Conservation And Conservation Americans began to worry about their connection with nature when cities gained popularity and frontier closed. In the late 1800's, Americans began to take notice the land they relied on for resources was beginning to show signs of overuse (Roosevelt, Theodore). The two most prominent activists for the conservation and preservation of American soil were Gifford Pinchot and John Muir. These two men both fought for regulation on how the land was used, but disputed over what this use looked like. Pinchot believed in conservation which meant using the natural resources to serve the needs of Americans for the longest time (Warren, 201). On the other side of the movement, Muir believed that man should leave nature untouched and left in its purist form.(Muir 40) Conservation and preservation impacted not only the land but, also on the people who lived on the land. The conservation and preservation movement benefited whites of upper and middle class who were able to earn a profit, explore, and utilize the nature that was being conserved/preserved. Consequently, the conservation and preservation movements created greater hardship for those who relied on nature's resources to survive, including, but not limited to the working class of Ely, Minnesota and the Indians in Yosemite National Park. Ely, Minnesota is a prime example of how the conservation and preservation movement created a greater divide between the upper and lower classes. The elites of Ely greatly benefited from the ... • 13. The Role Of Private Military Contractors ( Pmcs ) Thesis: The role of private military contractors (PMCs) has expanded tremendously since the end of the Cold War when western governments began the process of trimming their bloated military forces. As privatization commenced, governments began to rely upon a new kind of contractor that sold not only hardware but also manpower and expertise. Even as conventional military forces declined, the need for highly capable, professional soldiers remained pressing, especially in conflict prone areas around the world. PMCs filled these gaps, providing military assistance, advice, and security services to governments, companies, and NGOs. However, the role of these companies, and the legal framework surrounding them remains up for debate, and recent cases of misconduct with deadly consequences only muddy the waters further. The question remains: do PMCs serve to help or hurt human rights in areas where they are deployed? In this paper, I will argue that PMCs do have a critical role in the modern battlefield as providers of logistical, training, and security services, but their use in offensive actions or assistance with so called "black operations" should be circumscribed to the point of nonexistence. I will analyze two cases studies where PMCSs were deployed: Iraq and Sierra Leone to determine the positive and negative ramifications of their deployment. PMCs have upheld human rights in the vast majority of areas where they have been deployed, and it has not been shown that they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the course of history, several authoritarian leaders have risen to power and maintained their acquired power through physical, violent means. Two authoritarian leaders that have transformed their acquired power into dictatorial rights are Fidel Castro of Cuba and Augusto Pinochet of Chile. Interestingly, Castro and Pinochet differed in their ideals about the ideal structure of governments. While Castro advocated for a socialist, Marxist, anti–imperialist Cuba, Pinochet favored a anti–Marxist, anti–socialist, capitalist Chile. Despite their differing ideals, both shared several similarities in their efforts to establish and maintain their power. Both individuals rose to power in a similar manner: a sort of coup d'Г©tat. Both individuals maintained power through positive and negative means. Castro and Pinochet introduced several economic reforms that mostly benefited the people of Cuba and Chile. While these economic reforms allowed for the financial freedom of many Cubans and Chileans, the dictatorial rulers politically repressed the residents of Cuba and Chile. Ebola Virus Outbreak Of West Africa Imagine being isolated from your friends and family, suffering from an illness that feels as though something is burning through your body, while watching people around you dying of the same illness and wondering when it will be your turn to proverbially "kick the bucket". For many survivors of the Ebola disease, this situation would be far too familiar. In March 2014, the Ebola virus outbreak began in West Africa, mainly in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. According to a recent figure from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been a total of 28616 Ebola cases and 11310 deaths from Ebola in these three countries (2014). There were many unpalatable symptoms of the disease, such as "fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, widespread bleeding, diarrhea and other physical symptoms leading to high mortality" (Van Bortel). If one is lucky enough to survive this virus, however, there are just as many negative results of the virus as there were symptoms. Many West African survivors have to deal with their new negative image, negative lasting health effects, or a decrease in financial stability due to their inability to work or find work after they recover. Now that the West African Ebola epidemic is over, (Liberia) there remains the task of assimilating the survivors back into their societies. Moreover, the best solution to counteract the effects of the Ebola virus on survivors is to expand upon the Ebola–survivor–support organizations already in place. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Film Blood Diamond By Edward Zwick In the film Blood Diamond, the director Edward Zwick uses the opening and closing scenes to show the socio–political effects of western consumerism in an underdeveloped society, in particular the Conflict Diamond trade and its effects, he uses this to highlight the idea of the 'boy being the diamond' within the film. Consumerism is seen to be the cause of death and destruction in the once beautiful landscape of Africa with portrait shots of mountains and beautiful sunsets. In both scenes the director uses camera shots, sounds and overall mis–en–scene/editing to create these themes/ideas. The socio–political thriller brings chaos and brutality to the forefront of what is a little known conflict trade. While the movie is full with dynamic characters the real "star" that is brought to light is the diamond, of which many audience members could be adorned in, making the realistic side of the film more obvious. The movie aims in this way to leave to audience with the question "Is there Blood on my hands?" In the first scene Zwick uses camera angles and dialogue/sound to emotionally grab the viewers and to shock/intrigue them. The scene opens with a fire lit match, showing a poor family, everything is quiet and settled in their home front until a group of rebels storm their small village and take Solomon captive. Against the background once portrayed as serene, a man has his hands amputated and is subsequently killed by the rebels. The scene also contains cross cuts from the ... The smaller rivers in Cuba are known worldwide for their huge, trophy sized fish. More than 3,000 species of flowers and tropical fruits prosper on the island, especially palm trees (including the Royal Palm), mahogany plants, ebony, cottonwood, tobacco, and papaya trees, The eastern part of Cuba is known for its dense forests, and the ceiba (Cuba's national tree). Cuba is home to more than 300 species of birds, and more than 700 species of fish and crustaceans. Its land animals include crocodiles, lizards, salamanders, turtles and snakes. There are two species of indigenous rats found on the island: the Jutia and the Solenodon. The Jutia is the largest land mammal in Cuba, and can grow to as long as 60 centimeters. Recently, pollution and excess hunting has become a problem facing the survival of wildlife in Cuba. Also, diseases such as Blue Mold Fungus and the Swine Flu are being brought onto the island from foreign countries, killing crops and animals. A significant amount of natural resources are found on the island, including nickel, chrome, copper, iron and manganese. The mines located in Cuba are all property of the government, and certain reserves (such as salt, petroleum and sulfur) are already exploited. Several small microclimates, regions that have ... • 30. Reflection Paper On Ohio State Fair Ohio State Fair Everyone remembers something about their childhood. We all remember one specific day or event. We remember something or someone about our childhood. We remember our school winter breaks, our long hot summer days and more. The perfect time to reflect though is in the summer. Individuals have enough time to sacrifice in order to venture to their past. For children, summer is permanent freedom for three months while for adults it is filled with memory lane. Last summer, I was at the Ohio State Fair. It was a beautiful, sunny day. The wind was blowing and out of the corner of my eye, I recognized a longtime friend from secondary school. We embraced each other in friendship. I introduced him to my two beautiful children. He was with his two children also. When I asked what he was doing there, he announced he had only come from Kentucky to attend the Ohio State Fair. After the introductions, we decided to stay together as a group. It was a happy time and we talked about our relationships. I told him about my beautiful wife of eight years. My friend could not say the same. He had experienced a divorce with the mother of his children. We took a time to look at the different animals, which then made us reflect back to Sierra Leone. At this moment, I remembered had it not been for summer I would not have had enough time to process such a thought. We watched our children ride roller coasters and simultaneously conversed about life and back home. All the children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

IntroductionвЃ Female genital mutilation (FGM), female cutting and circumcision are all synonyms for procedures involving partial or total removal of the external genitalia and other injury to the genital organs for non–medical reasons.(WHO 2008)вЃ It is widely practiced in 29 countries. Worldwide more than 125 million girls and women deal with the consequences and every year 3 million girls are circumcised.(UNICEF 2013)вЃ Sierra Leone, located in West–Africa, is one of the countries where FGM is practiced (textbox 1). Here, prevalence of FGM is about 90%. Types I and II (table 1) are most prevalent, accounting together for about 75%.(DHS 2013)вЃ FGM occurs in all 16 ethnic groups in Sierra Leone, in highest amount in the Temne and... It has an important place in the initiation rite of girls turning into women, around the age of puberty. It also gives membership to a secret society led by women and called Bondo in the North and in Freetown and Sande in the South (figure 1).(UNHCR 2007)вЃ вЃ вЃ So far, most interventions have not been effective, probably because FGM is rooted deeply in culture and complex causes make it hard to intervene. The objective of this literature review is to analyze which determinants influence FGM in Sierra Leone in order to inform local Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs). This can help to implement effective interventions. 2. Methods2.1 Search strategy A search was conducted using Popline, Pubmed, the World Health Organization, UNHCR and the UNICEF website (table 2). After applying in– and exclusion criteria (table 3) and reference screening, 15 articles and reports were found useful. When referred in this paper to initiation or initiated girls or women, this means undergoing FGM. For several numbers there has been chosen to use the numbers from UNICEF because they used both the MICS 2010 and DHS 2008. When there were more recent numbers in DHS 2013, these were used. 2.2 Conceptual model The determinants for FGM will be described according to the conceptual model of Dahlgren ... • 32. Factors That Influence Rainfall in the United States Factors that Influence Rainfall in the United States A type of precipitation is rainfall and it develops when water vapor condenses into droplets in the atmosphere thus becoming too heavy to stay suspended in the air so gravity causes them to fall. The pattern or occurrence of rainfall in the United States or basically anywhere in the world depends on several factors such as ground elevation, wind directions, location within a continental mass, areas of low pressure, cool fronts, jet streams and even mountain ranges. For instance mountains have an influence on wind and wind is an important feature in rainfall, "The windward sides of mountainous islands in the trade wind regime are among the rainiest places on earth, where rains exceed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the pressure is 'high' it means that the air's pressure is higher than the pressure of the surrounding air in the area. A 'low' is where it is lower. This means that where the air is slowly descending the pressure is high and vice versa. So, as air descends, it warms, which inhibits the formation of clouds. This means that the air that descends in high pressure area has to get to high altitudes in some way which is why air actually rises in low pressure areas. Winds tend to blow into low pressure areas because are moves from higher pressure areas into lower pressure areas. When the wind moves into a low area the air moves up and eventually cools and rainfall comes about. Also the low pressure that causes the air to rise has to do with the Criolis Effect, which is the force caused by the Earth's spin that redirects moving air to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. According to meteorologist Tony Pann, who works with Coriolis Effect stated, "With the Coriolis effect, air circulates in patterns that depend on latitude. At the mid–latitudes of the USA, most weather systems move from west to east. However, systems tend to move from east to west near the poles and in the tropic" (Pann). The upslope flow is also related low pressure areas which is basically the result of air rising and cooling while being forced to ascend to higher terrain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Analysis Of Ansel Adams ' A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words A picture is worth a thousand words. This phrase has almost become cliched but it is a powerful statement that applies perfectly in photography. When good photographers observe a powerful scene that moves them, they will use their talents, skills, and techniques to translate that power in their photography. They can effectively allow their audience to feel the same power they did during their first observation. In turn, this communication of power often returns power to the original scene. This is true in photography that conveys everything from human rights violations to family history to nature. One photographer that took this journey with his art was Ansel Adams. At a very young age he felt a spiritual connection and inspiration with Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada country. He honed his talent and technique as a photographer to capture that power and inspiration so that it radiated from his final prints. As people observed his prints, they were moved and in turn provided power to protect the majesty of the wilderness that Ansel so loved. Adams was an only child to his parents and his father "molded into his son a direct expression of Emersonian ideals, raised above all to adore nature, the straightest path to the eternal." He struggled to fit in at school as he "was an odd, hyperactive child" who "grew emotionally unstable and cried easily." and was eventually homeschooled. • 34. Devils : National Monument Is Preserved And Protected By... Devils Postpile National Monument is in Madera County, Mammoth Lakes, California on Western side of the Sierra Nevada. In 1911 Devils Postpile National Monument was preserved and protected by the National Parks Services because of the two main geologic features present there that draw attention to this area. The Formation of the Columnar Basalt (Devils Postpile), which named the monument and the other feature being Rainbow Falls. Although Devils Postpile National Monument is relatively small, the 798 acres entices nearly thousands of visitors every year (Arnett et al. 367–368). This land is home to naturally occurring beauty, great hiking trails, diverse habitats, numerous geologic features and much more which is why Devils Postpile should be upgraded to National Park Status. The history behind Devils Postpile started with the Native American Indians about 7,500 years ago who were living on the Sierra Nevada's. The Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River was their main trade and was using the location for hunting. The forming of the geologic features go way back to starting with the beginning of North America millions of years ago. The land that is now known as Eastern California, was covered by a shallow sea. North America was slowly being pushed westward and oceanic crust was being pushed onto the side and being pulled underneath the continent. After continuous repetition, this accretionary wedge formed. This is when some of the crust pushes up onto the edge of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kimberlite mining would be able to place more control on smuggling and production than the current alluvial methods. However, capital outlays for the development of a kimberlite mining operation are extensive. Kimberlites host the most common type of commercial diamond deposits. Approximately 12% of all known kimberlites contain diamonds, while only 2% contain economic quantities. Muir spent many years of his life wandering around in the hills of Northern California, experiencing a phenomenon that can only be described as wanderlust. The term wanderlust describes an innate feeling or desire to travel. Just a few short weeks ago, I packed my bag and hopped on a plane bound for Spain, in an attempt to rekindle my own wanderlust. While no trip to any country is complete without sampling the regional food, the Camino allowed us to sample the local fare from a new town every single day. I thought this was such a fantastic aspect of the trip because it forced all of us to try various items and not simply eat the same old thing every day. Nearly every cafГЁ along the Camino served a pilgrim's dinner, which consisted of two entrees, bread, water and a dessert, which ends up being a substantial amount of food by the time all is said and done. The pilgrim's dinner varied greatly in quality, but not so much in menu choices, as many of the restaurants offered similar options. Towards the end of our Camino, we began to stray from the pilgrim's dinners and indulge in tapas, or small plates, which allowed us to sample everything from tortadas to octopus, However, one option that was never offered along the entire Camino adventure was free water at the dinner table. While water could be found in random locations scattered along the trail, the idea of filling up water glasses at the table with water from a faucet was totally foreign to the Spanish. When a group asks for water, the waiter brings bottled water to the table, which runs up the table's tab pretty quickly. Around the dinner table was also the location where I began to notice a striking difference between American and Spanish culture. Every time I was sitting at the table, listening to all the members of my group speaking so loudly you could hear them from across the room, I looked around at other patrons of the restaurant and noticed they weren't speaking nearly as loud. In fact, you could hardly hear any of them at all. After noticing this phenomenon the first few times, I began to realize exactly why Americans are often times perceived as being loud, rowdy and sort of obnoxious; and ... • 37. The Imprefections of the Societies in The Maze Runner,... Imagine a life where everything is perfect. Sadly this is not possible. Many societies that were thought to be perfect, like The Maze Runner, Nazi Germany, Sierra Leone, and Ancient Greece figured this out the hard way. Societies fall due to corrupt leaders, lack of supplies, and a faulty security system. Societies fall due to corrupt leaders which is a political problem. What lead to the fall of The Maze Runner was the fact that they had corrupt leaders. Their leaders all went off in some way or another. Alby was the first one to become corrupt. He burned the the papers which were the only chance the gladers had at escaping. He was sobbing and just couldn't handle it all. Gally was another person who underwent these changes. He claimed to "know" things about Thomas that others didnt. Another once great society known as Nazi Germany fell due to this reason as well. Hitler was a crazed man who can easily be classified as a corrupt leader. He did some crazy things that people today cant really explain. What we do know is he tried to trick people into thinking what he was doing was right. In a sick way, he was a fantastic leader. He could convince the whole society that blaming everything on this group of people was the right thing to do. Hitler basically convinced everyone that locking these people up was only for the sake of humanity, and things would be better after this.
