The latest outbreak of Ebola is one of the largest epidemics in history. Starting in West Africa, it has spread to neighboring countries such as Guinea,
Liberia and Sierra Leone, causing numerous fatalities (Darrel, 2014). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has identified five different strains of the
Ebola virus–Zaire, Sudan, Reston, Bundibugyo and Tai–with Zaire and Sudan cited as being the most harmful strains with 68% and 53% average
death rate respectively (Darell, 2014). The first strain of Ebola was discovered in 1976, in the Dominican Republic of Congo, and was contained until
the recent mutations of different strains (Felscher, 2013). There is evidence that experimental drug, ZMapp, has helped treat Ebola infected individuals
(Parshley,2014). Although ZMapp can be an expensive drug to produce, Ebola patients should be allowed to get access to this because it can help
control their prognosis and mortality rate.

Ebola is a global concern primarily because the disease is deadly, and scientists and researchers have very minimal information about the newer strains

When the Union Pacific Railroad starts building, it is in 1862, in the middle of the Civil War. There was a lack of labor since most people went to
fight. Because of the lack of workers, during the whole Civil War, only forty miles of track were laid from Omaha by the Union Pacific. However,
when the Civil War ended in 1865, the construction went much faster. The U.P. employed Irish immigrants and Civil War veterans to build the
railroad. The workers laid 1,087 miles of track between Omaha, NE and Utah. The Central Pacific Railroad had much less land to cover, but they had to
build through the harsh Sierra Nevada mountains. The workers were mostly Chinese immigrants that came to California from the Gold Rush of 1849.

Americans began to worry about their connection with nature when cities gained popularity and frontier closed. In the late 1800's, Americans began to
take notice the land they relied on for resources was beginning to show signs of overuse (Roosevelt, Theodore). The two most prominent activists for
the conservation and preservation of American soil were Gifford Pinchot and John Muir. These two men both fought for regulation on how the land was

Thesis: The role of private military contractors (PMCs) has expanded tremendously since the end of the Cold War when western governments began the
process of trimming their bloated military forces. As privatization commenced, governments began to rely upon a new kind of contractor that sold not
only hardware but also manpower and expertise. Even as conventional military forces declined, the need for highly capable, professional soldiers
remained pressing, especially in conflict prone areas around the world. PMCs filled these gaps, providing military assistance, advice, and security
services to governments, companies, and NGOs. However, the role of these companies, and the legal framework surrounding them remains up for
debate, and recent cases of misconduct with deadly consequences only muddy the waters further. The question remains: do PMCs serve to help or
hurt human rights in areas where they are deployed? In this paper, I will argue that PMCs do have a critical role in the modern battlefield as
providers of logistical, training, and security services, but their use in offensive actions or assistance with so called "black operations" should be
circumscribed to the point of nonexistence. I will analyze two cases studies where PMCSs were deployed: Iraq and Sierra Leone to determine the

Imagine being isolated from your friends and family, suffering from an illness that feels as though something is burning through your body, while
watching people around you dying of the same illness and wondering when it will be your turn to proverbially "kick the bucket". For many survivors
of the Ebola disease, this situation would be far too familiar. In March 2014, the Ebola virus outbreak began in West Africa, mainly in Sierra Leone,
Liberia, and Guinea. According to a recent figure from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been a total of 28616
Ebola cases and 11310 deaths from Ebola in these three countries (2014). There were many unpalatable symptoms of the disease, such as "fever,
headache, joint and muscle pain, widespread bleeding, diarrhea and other physical symptoms leading to high mortality" (Van Bortel). If one is lucky
enough to survive this virus, however, there are just as many negative results of the virus as there were symptoms. Many West African survivors have
to deal with their new negative image, negative lasting health effects, or a decrease in financial stability due to their inability to work or find work
after they recover. Now that the West African Ebola epidemic is over, (Liberia) there remains the task of assimilating the survivors back into their
societies. Moreover, the best solution to counteract the effects of the Ebola virus on survivors is to expand upon the Ebola–survivor–support
organizations already in place.

Imagine living in a country, where the average life expectancy for men and women in the year 2017 is 49 years old. Imagine living in a country
where electricity is one of the hardest things to obtain. Imagine living in a country with over 60% of the country's population living below the poverty
line. Imagine living in a country that has suffered greatly through civil wars, epidemics, and environmental climate disasters. Just imagine being from
a country that is rich in the world's most precious minerals but still classified as a third world country. What country is that you ask? Its Sierra Leone
of course, named the 11th poorest country in the world located in West Africa. A country who has been going through economic, political, and social
challenges for over two decades now.
July 09 2004, I was about eight years old, excited to travel on a plane for the first time in my life and finally getting to visit what my parents called
"Sweet Salone." I didn't know what to expect when I got to Sierra Leone. I thought it would look just like America but boy was I wrong. As we
arrived I saw nothing but bushes, trees and little houses made out of sticks, and aluminum. I was a bit confused as to what was going on but was hard
to see because it was dark. Once we got to Freetown everything started to change, I started seeing better buildings, stores and restaurants and was a
little bit more courage about being there. As we roamed the streets during the day, that's when I really got to see the good and the bad of the country.
What struck to me the most about the country was the way the hospital buildings were and how they were ran.
Almost every hospitals building is old, run down, no air condition, and have many broken windows. The hospital barely has enough hospital beds for
patients, and very few stable equipment for doctors to use and very little to no sanitation. The lack of experienced doctors and nurses makes it hard for
patients to get treated for long term care and sometimes short term care. As I visited the hospitals I just couldn't believe my eyes, although I was only

While no trip to any country is complete without sampling the regional food, the Camino allowed us to sample the local fare from a new town
every single day. I thought this was such a fantastic aspect of the trip because it forced all of us to try various items and not simply eat the same
old thing every day. Nearly every cafГЁ along the Camino served a pilgrim's dinner, which consisted of two entrees, bread, water and a dessert,
which ends up being a substantial amount of food by the time all is said and done. The pilgrim's dinner varied greatly in quality, but not so much
in menu choices, as many of the restaurants offered similar options. Towards the end of our Camino, we began to stray from the pilgrim's dinners
and indulge in tapas, or small plates, which allowed us to sample everything from tortadas to octopus, However, one option that was never offered
along the entire Camino adventure was free water at the dinner table. While water could be found in random locations scattered along the trail, the
idea of filling up water glasses at the table with water from a faucet was totally foreign to the Spanish. When a group asks for water, the waiter
brings bottled water to the table, which runs up the table's tab pretty quickly. Around the dinner table was also the location where I began to notice a
striking difference between American and Spanish culture. Every time I was sitting at the table, listening to all the members of my group speaking so
loudly you could hear them from across the room, I looked around at other patrons of the restaurant and noticed they weren't speaking nearly as loud.
