2. Open Access och jag
- en kärleksrelation
JUTTA HAIDER, @JUTTAHAIDER
3. Open Access har blivit vuxen, vuxen
nog att tåla konstruktiv kritik.
4. Vetenskap såsom den beskrevs i
litteraturen om open access var inte
samma sak som jag upplevde som
forskare.
5. Vetenskap och forskning har många olika
former beroende vem som talar och alla
är viktiga, ingen ska ha
tolkningsföreträde.
6. Två diskurser kring vetenskaplig
kommunikation
• En epistemisk diskurs
– Om hur forskningspublikationer kommunicerar ett
innehåll, ett instrument för att sprida
forskningsresultat.
– Här befinner sig oftast biblioteken.
• En praktikdiskurs
– Om hur man ”gör” vetenskap, och hur
forskningspublikationer utgör en del i ett
meriteringssystem som skapar status och tillhörighet.
– Här befinner sig oftast forskarna.
7. Två förståelser av vetenskap
(och open access)
• En linjär utvecklingsoptimistisk förståelse
(on the shoulder of giants)
• En praktikorienterad förståelse (hur görs
forskning)
8. Många ”gör” vetenskap: vetenskapsmän
och –kvinnor, men också bibliotekarier,
lärare, journalister, studenter, finansiärer,
administratörer, utvärderare osv.
Beroende på vems perspektiv ser
”vetenskap” olika ut.
9. The public good they make possible is the world-wide
electronic distribution of the peer-reviewed journal
literature and completely free and unrestricted access to
it by all scientists, scholars, teachers, students, and
other curious minds. Removing access barriers to this
literature will accelerate research, enrich education,
share the learning of the rich with the poor and the poor
with the rich, make this literature as useful as it can be,
and lay the foundation for uniting humanity in a
common intellectual conversation and quest for
knowledge.
Budapest Open Access Initative 2002
10. We define open access as a comprehensive
source of human knowledge and cultural
heritage that has been approved by the
scientific community.
Berlin Declaration 2003
11. For the first time ever, the Internet now offers the
chance to constitute a global and interactive
representation of human knowledge, including
cultural heritage and the guarantee of worldwide
access.
(Berlin 2003)
12. An old tradition and a new technology have
converged to make possible an unprecedented public
good. The old tradition is the willingness of scientists
and scholars to publish the fruits of their research in
scholarly journals without payment, for the sake of
inquiry and knowledge. The new technology is the
internet. /.../ Removing access barriers to this
literature will accelerate research, enrich education,
share the learning of the rich with the poor and the
poor with the rich, make this literature as useful as it
can be, and lay the foundation for uniting humanity in
a common intellectual conversation and quest for
knowledge.
(Budapest 2002)
13. Fourth, we must embark on a bold new program
for making the benefits of our scientific
advances and industrial progress available for
the improvement and growth of
underdeveloped areas. More than half the
people of the world are living in conditions
approaching misery. Their economic life is
primitive and stagnant. Their food is
inadequate. They are victims of disease. Their
poverty is a handicap and a threat both to them
and to more prosperous areas. For the first time
in history, humanity possesses the knowledge
and skill to relieve the suffering of these people.
(Truman, 1949)
14. open access fortsätter i en tradition av att tala
om framsteg, vetenskap och teknik, en diskurs
som ger hopp, men som fungerar så bra som
den gör främst för att den skjuter allting i en
framtid som aldrig nås – desiring machine
15. Open access – science as usual.
Open access har flyttat närmare administration,
utvärdering och traditionella förlag.
16. Mistrusting Open Access
• Undersöker reaktionerna på s k Bohannan-fallet
– Om vetenskapens villkor
– Om peer-review
– Ett system som är i kris
• Open Access som en möjlighet att diskutera forskningens
villkor
