Dear Nadia,
How have you been? Last weekend, I go to visit an old folks’ home with my
classmates. The visit was indeed a eye-opener. When I talked to the elderly
people there, I realised that many of them were abandon by their children.
Some of us were sent there because their children feel that they were
troublesome. Others moved into the home voluntarily because their children
were to busy with work and had no time to care for them. What saddens me
the most is that they hardly get visits from their children. Some of the elder
people I talked to actually say that they feel happier living in the home
because they have friends from whom they can talk to. After listening to their
stories, I realised the important of caring for my grandparents. I have been
too busy with my own life to makes time for them. Now, I am going to spend
more time with my grandparents. In fact, I plan to visit them this Sunday.
Would you like to join me? Let me know. Bye!
Your friend,
Naomi

SECTION B
Read the following text.Then, answer questions (a) – (j).
The school holidays are here! My family and I want to go on a family vacation. My parents
love exotic holiday destinations. This time, they plan to visit Cambodia. They want to go to
Angkor Wat as it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We’ve checked out a few tour packages. There are so many to choose from. There’s a six-day
tour to Angkor Wat and Ho Chi Minh offered by Lotus Travel and Tours. At RM1,649 per
person, the tour includes visits to Angkor Wat and Tonle Sap Floating Village. There is a
boat cruise to visit the village. We get to see floating markets, floating houses and floating
schools of Cambodian fishermen. That sounds interesting but my younger sister isn’t too
keen on it.
I’m excited about the Ho Chi Minh City tour. The tour highlight is the Chu Chi Tunnel,
which is a network of tunnels located in the Chu Chi district of Ho Chi Minh City. We can
also shop at Vietnam’s famous Ban Thanh market. My mum will enjoy it!
We can choose from three departure dates – 17 November, 25 November and 16 December.
There’s also another 4-day tour to Ho Chi Minh City which costs RM1,249 per person.
However, we won’t get to see Angkor Wat. I’ll let my mum and dad decide, I’m so confused
now.

Read the letter from Khairil to Hairi below
Dear Hairi,
It is indeed nice to hear from you again. How are you in Australia? I hope you are doing well.
I am fine over here except that I am busy preparing for my mid-term examination which is
just around the corner.
In your letter which I received a fortnight ago, you asked me for tips on how to
manage your money. I know that living expenses in Australia are definitely higher than in
Malaysia.
Well, I am not an expert on money management but I hope these tips will be helpful. To
begin with, you need to set a budget. This is a good way to control your spending. Doing so
will help you spend your money wisely. Besides that, learn to spend within your means.
Never overspend your allowance.
Other than that, remember to buy what you need, and not what you want. So, you
should prioritise your spending. Set aside money for the essential things first such as food,
stationery and transportation. Look out for the best deals before you make any purchases.
Avoid shopping at malls which are generally more expensive. Shop at flea markets or at thrift
shops which offer better deals. Perhaps you can also try to get good deals at second-hand
shops too.
I know father has given you a credit card, but try not to use it unless you really need
to. You may not realise how much you would have spent if you use a credit card as you don’t
see money coming out of your wallet. So refrain from using it. Oh yes, another way to
manage your money is to frequent shops that reward customer loyalty. The proprietor may
give you a discount for the item you want to purchase.
Last but not least, remember the golden rule – by managing your money well, you
will be disciplined and will not borrow money.
I hope these tips are useful and will help you. Take care and should you need any
help, do write again.
Your brother,
Khairil.
