Fetus Development
Genetics is the study of heredity and the different inherited characteristics (Dictinonary.com). All
humans are made up of cells. Each cell contains chromosomes. Chromosomes are genetic material
that determine many things about a person. For example, their height, hair color, eye color, sex, and
personality traits. Deoxyribonucleic acid is in charge of the transmission of genetic materials. A
single, cell develops into the large organs that is a human newborn infant in 266 days (Infant and
Early Childhood Development). Prenatal development is the process of growth, differentiation,
development, and maturation between fertilization and birth (Dictionary of Medical Terms).

The human body develops from a single cell produced from the joining of the male and female sex
cells. This joining marks the beginning of the prenatal period. There are three stages. The first stage
is the pre–embryonic stage. The first two weeks of development, which is a period of cell division
and initial differentiation. The second stage is the embryonic stage. Which lasts from the third to the
eighth week of development. The third stage is the fetal period. Which is the maturation of tissues
and organs and rapid growth of the body (Prenatal

The Abortion Of The Fetus
I am going to argue that its is right to claim that, even if a fetus is a person, abortion is still
permissible when one's risk in health/stability/happiness is threatened. I believe that any woman,
who houses the fetus inside her body for estimated nine months have the right and the choice to
abortion when it is for one's health, stability and happiness for both the mother and the unborn fetus.
Thomson's argument is entitled as "Defense to Abortion". I agree to Thomson and her argument
when it comes to aborting a fetus, even if a fetus is a person. Yes, it has it's own DNA, and it's own
life but when it threatens the "house" that it stays in, which in this case would be the
woman/mother's womb, I believe the abortion of the fetus, is permissible. Thomson states "it cannot
be seriously thought to be murder if the mother performs an abortion on herself to save her life."
(Thomson, Defense on Abortion, pg6) Thomson gives an example of a violinist being plugged into
another human, using their blood in high hopes of survival by that person's kidneys extracting the
poison from the violinist's blood. The person never agreed to do such, being that it was decided by
the Society of Music Lovers; but did not go against it by detaching himself from the violinist
knowing that it can cause death. This explains that there are events where we don't have much of a
freedom of choice when there is a conscious person/life involved meaning, when there is a
conscious life in our hands,

Zygote Vs Fetus
The first premise states that a fetus is an early stage in becoming a human. It all starts with
conception. When the sperm meets the egg, the combination is called a zygote. The zygote contains
all of the genetic information (DNA) needed to become a baby. Half the DNA comes from the
mother's egg and half from the father's sperm. The zygote then travels down the fallopian tube, in
which, it forms a ball of cells called a blastocyst. The blastocyst is composed of an inner group of
cells with an outer shell. The inner group of cells will become the embryo which is what will
develop into a fetus. The fetus is the stage of development up until birth. Of course, after birth you
have an infant, then a toddler, then a preschooler, then middle childhood, teenagers, and lastly
adulthood. All of which came to be from a mere zygote. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every single human being body parts all share the same genetic code. If the mother and unborn child
were not different people, the fetus's cells would have the same genetic code as the mothers. If a
man kills a pregnant woman, he is convicted on two counts of murder. It is illegal to execute a
pregnant woman on death row because the child is a separate human being (International Covenant
on Civil and Political Rights: Article 6.5). As you can see, a Fetus is its own human Being. Premise
three tells us that all humans have the right to life. According to Appendix A: Universal Declaration
of Human Rights," Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of person. "(Article 3)

Essay On How To Abort A Fetus
There are many methods used to abort a fetus. Some are quite gruesome, while others are less
intrusive. The D&C (Dilation & Curettage) is occasionally used up to the twelfth week. The cervix
is dilated and a cruet is inserted into the uterus. The baby's body is then cut into pieces and removed
by suction. The uterine wall is then scraped, removing the placenta to empty the entire uterus. A
D&E (Dilation & Evacuation) can be performed up to eighteen weeks. The uterus is entered with a
forceps which grabs and twists the baby's body to dismember it. Sometimes the head needs to be
crushed in order to remove it. Another form of abortion is the Hysterotomy which can be used in the
last three months of pregnancy. The mother's stomach is cut open, much like a "C ... Show more

If it is born still alive, it is uncared for and left to die. The next type of abortion is called
Prostaglandin. This procedure can be used during the second half of the pregnancy. A compound is
injected into the muscle of the uterus, much like a hormone, which causes intense contractions and
pushes out the baby. The contractions are so severe, that many babies are crushed to death. Again, if
the baby is born still alive, they are then left to die. The RU–486 used in the seventh week of
pregnancy is a synthetic steroid that blocks the hormone Progesterone. Once given the RU–486, the
woman then takes a second drug, Prostaglandin, used to induce labor and expel the dead baby. There
is another abortion drug named "Ella" that works the same way as the RU–486. The final abortion
procedure is that of "Suction Abortion." After the cervix is dilated, a tube with a serrated tip is
inserted into the woman's uterus. A suction, twenty nine times more powerful than a household
vacuum cleaner, tears the baby's body apart and sucks it through the hose into a container. This is the
usual method used in the United States during the first twelve weeks of

Fetus Removal Pros And Cons
The subject of fetus removal will dependably be begging to be proven wrong on whether it is
ethically, lawfully, ormedically the correct thing to do. In the mid 70's the situation of Roe v. Wade

have a fetus removal amid their first trimester and it was viewed as moral in light of the fact that it

Fetus Lead Contamination
My company has consistently tried to reduce lead exposure to its employee's. In fact, they are the
ones that initiated programs to decrease the lead exposure to its workers. Whenever employees
receive a doctor's report stating that his or her lead blood levels are high, they would be transferred
out with benefits. It's been proven that lead is toxic and can have ill effects on an unborn child, and
these effects may not manifest themselves immediately at birth. In addition to that, lead levels that
may be safe for a fully–grown adult are still toxic to a developing infant fetus. The policy
established in 1977 did not result in protecting women and their children from excess lead levels.

In any realm of the world, it is always better to be safe than sorry. The decision made should be that
the company change it policy and implement the one that requires "complete exclusions of women
with childbearing capacity from high lead exposure positions."According to the law book,
Consequentialism deals with the ethics and morality of the consequence of actions instead of the
actual actions themselves, so in other words, lying itself is not unethical, but the results of lying may
indeed be unethical. While it may not be fair or necessarily ethical to exclude women from those
toxic environments, the end result of the policy change would be ethical because it would prevent
the lead from ever having the chance of affecting the potential unplanned child. The potential
unborn child is the most affected from the policy change and stands to gain the most out of it; by
implementing the policy, it would give the children of any unplanned pregnancies the opportunity to
live a normal life without any defects due to the absence of toxic lead levels. The end result of a
healthy baby justifies the means of potential unethical exclusion of women from a toxic even if they
want to environment. In order to enforce and monitor the policy, any potential eligible women who
wish to work in the toxic lead environment would be subject to a medical examination in order to

Fetus Removal Literature Review
Literature review
Bailey, citing Professor Ray Dolan of University College, London, writes in a meeting "that feelings
impact our choices constantly". It is additionally concurred that the mental component of premature
birth can't be disregarded on the grounds that fetus removal is, without question, a critical life
occasion causing high mental worry at the time. Argent proposes that fetus removal may include
sentiments of blame, disgrace and lament. However others dissent, recommending that the
experience of abortion is sincerely kind in spite of affirmation in a similar article that "fetus removal
speaks to a standout amongst the most argumentative political, social and good issues of the day".
The literature regarding this matter draws on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writing encompassing this subject contains numerous predispositions. Some emerge from the
ideological perspectives or suspicions of the creators and some emerge as a result of poor strategy.
Some writing is one–sided toward the desire for extreme negative responses of women who have
encountered fetus removal and a few writers are exceptionally incredulous of this. These creators
feature the improper speculation of conclusions from these examinations and propose they are "of
constrained logical legitimacy and educate small concerning the experience of by far most of
abortion patients". There is considerably less recorded data with respect to the potential constructive
outcomes that fetus removal may convey to the women or the impacts on women when abortion is
denied, a special case being the paper by Dagg (1991). The writing has a tendency to recommend
that ladies who don't encounter trouble following premature birth may encounter more positive
feelings, for example, alleviation, fulfillment and a feeling of coming back to ordinariness. Post–
abortion feelings differ incredibly amongst women, and

Abortion And The Legal Rights Of The Fetus
One of many questions being debated today is Abortion and the moral legal rights of the fetus.
Usually debates about abortion focus on politics and the law. Some believe that the law shouldn't
legislate morality, but all good law is based upon moral values. Behind the debates are more
fundamental ethical questions which aren't always given the specific attention they deserve, like
debating the legal status of the fetus. Is the point of conception considered life of the fetus and does
that fetus have rights? Many consider the point of conception as the first stage in human
development. From a political perspective the first and most fundamental human right is the right to
live. If this is so then the fertilized egg would not only have the right to life, but should have the
right to develop like any other person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Teratogenic Effects Of Alcohol On Fetus
Effects of Alcohol on Fetus
Teratogen Defined. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is known to have teratogenic effects.
Teratogen means that a particular agent is known to cause abnormalities on a developing embryo.
The teratogenic effect the alcohol will have on the embryo is highly dependent on dose and
frequency of consumption. As stated in the medical journal, Alcohol Abuse In Women, "Exposure to
heavy drinking (over 48–60 gr. ethanol/day) may cause fetal alcohol syndrome; exposure to
moderately high drinking, between 24–48 gr. ethanol/day which may result mostly in "alcohol
effects...." (Ornoy, Ergaz 2010). Aside, from developing Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), the
developing fetus is at risk of also developing Alcohol–Related Neurodevelopmental ... Show more

These three Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders may have mild to severe effects on the fetus. Fetal
Alcohol Syndrome, is known for the physical abnormalities it causes. Children with Fetal Alcohol
Syndrome have abnormal facial features, such as a smooth ridge between the nose and upper lip,
small head size, shorter than average height and low body weight. FAS also causes problems in the
central nervous system and may cause a wide range of behavioral issues (CDC,2015). Alcohol–
Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder has properties that may not be readily visible right after birth.
The reason being that the disorder is based on the effects it has on the child intellectually and
behaviorally. These effects are prominently seen when the child is older. These children have
difficulties with math, memory, attention, judgment, and impulse control (CDC, 2015). The last
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder that will be discussed is Alcohol–Related Birth Defects (ARBD).
The defects associated with this disorder are problems with the heart, kidneys, bones and hearing.
Other consequences of alcohol consumption while pregnant include spontaneous abortion, sleep and
sucking problems as a baby, and death. All of these consequences can be easily prevented if a
mother chooses to abstain from drinking while she is pregnant.

Response Essay I Was Once a Fetus: That Is Why Abortion Is Wrong
First, Pruss asserts that abortion is wrong because killing a fetus is human. According to his article,
the fetus isn't different from anybody. I agree with Pruss about abortion is wrong because the fetus
has right to live. Moreover, a human fetus is simply of a human being at an earlier stage in
development than I and you are nothing suggests that it is anything other than a human. A human
fetuses are human, before and after birth. So because it is human, killing it is just as wrong as killing
a fully developed, adult human being. Pruss is an associate professor of philosophy at Baylor
University, states that, "each individual person develops from a fetus" (70). That's absolutely correct.
And, of course, it equally applies to all human life.
In addition to his thought that killing a fetus is wrong and a crime, Pruss confirms that killing a fetus
is a crime with a victim. I cannot refuse life until the age of 3 months. I'm surprised how some
people cannot understand that life starts before the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fetus Brain Development
Due to modern medicine, there are many ways that pregnant women can now see how their fetus is
growing inside them. The woman's egg travels down the fallopian tube entering the uterus. It is
fertilized by the sperm and its home for the next nine months. There is a long process before the
baby arrives into the mother's arms. This is the beginning of conception and the development of the
baby.
The first trimester begins with the conception that leads to the sperm reaching to the egg within a
day. The fertilized egg is to await in the uterus wall where the placenta also starts to form. Web MD
states in that moment the genetic makeup of the fetus and even the sex is already set in motion. By
the fourth week of fertilization, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the twenty–eighth week, the baby is the size of an eggplant. The baby is growing into its
wrinkled skin and is increasing its body fat. It will be able to have its sensory receptors formed
throughout a couple of weeks ahead. The cartilage will transform into bones during this trimester.
The brain development will increase throughout the last weeks as the baby will be able to dream.
Throughout the thirty–two week margin, your baby will weigh around four pounds according to
WebMD. From there on till birth the baby will gain about half a pound each of the weeks remaining.
At the thirty–six week margin, the baby's organs are maturing and are able to release bowel
movements. The following week (37–39 weeks) the will define a "term" baby, this allows the
doctors to know if the baby is born before the term it is an early term or afterward a late–term. By
the full term (39 weeks) the baby's organs will develop such as the brain and lungs. The due date is
usually forty weeks after you have conceived, many women do not have an exact date of
conception, so it is probably nota late delivery for the baby. The birth process after the last trimester
is waiting for your water to break and birth

Abortion Is The Destruction Of A Fetus
In this essay, I will discuss my position on abortion, how it has changed, and how it compares to
others' more established positions. Before I can begin this, however, I must first discuss the terms
that will be used and their definitions. For the purposes of this essay an abortion is the destruction of
a fetus at any point in development. A fetus constitutes a fertilized egg. At the moment the egg and
sperm converge, the product is entitled a fetus. Prior to this course, my opinion on abortion was
firm, but underdeveloped. I had a position that stated abortion to be immoral but acceptable in some
cases. By this, I meant that it was always wrong, but could be understood in some cases, and thus,
somehow, less of a wrongness. I see now the major issues with this argument and will use this essay
to better clarify my position, and I will find myself aligning very closely with the views of Don
Marquis, as portrayed by his article entitled "An Argument that Abortion is Wrong." I will expound
upon these views as they are shared by mine, but will also cite portions from writings by Judith
Thomson and Mary Anne Warren. I find that my position was developed by using terms and ideas
from these three authors, but I will also discuss how their writings and views conflict with mine. My
position has been altered by new knowledge, and new incorporation of different circumstances.
Prior to this class, I had an opinion that abortion was wrong, but it was okay if the mother was raped

The Birth Of The Fetus Essay
Woman all over the world who are expecting a baby handle the life changing journey in diverse
ways. Some are single first time mothers who are striving to find a way to make their predicament
work, a few are surrogates who are carrying a baby for a family who are unable to conceive on their
own, and many are families who are trying to broaden their current household. No matter what the
reasoning is behind the conception of the infant, there is always the mystery of how much the fetus
really absorbs as they are progressing within the womb. Studies all over the globe have been
administered to uncover how much they obtain. Proving whether or not an infant will react the same
way or indifferently outside of the womb when being presented with the same stimuli. These types
of studies help exemplify what an infant actually retains outside of utero , and if all the classical
music and endless conversations to the womb actually played a vital role in the advancement of the
fetus' learning capabilities. Between the second and third trimester it is vital for the baby to continue
to grow as much as possible. If the baby were to arrive after 24 weeks, it would be able to survive,
but it would have to remain the NICU. During the six months, the eyelids finally open after being
sealed during the entire pregnancy. Also the fetus has developed taste buds, eyebrows, eyelashes,
and a grasping motion. It is during the seventh month period, also known as the fetal stage, that the

Fetus Should Not Have Rights
The fetus cannot possibly have rights because the fetus cannot be determine as a complete human
and no statics can back up 100% when human life begins without a doubt. We all assume we know
but we don't. It's our own opinion; therefore, we cannot determine the laws and rights on our opinion
but we can determine it on the fact that the mother is a human begin and has lived up the life.
Besides the fetus depends on the mother at all time during the pregnancy and after birth. The mother
is the one who is going to have to feed the child, clothes the child and change the child's diapers.
The child could not possibly do all of those things by itself; therefore, the child depends 100% at all

why should the woman be remind every single day of what happened due to having the child. Not to

knows what if the innocent child was to grow up and become its father the rapist or incest and repeat
history, are pro–life supporters willing to take that risk and let that happen to someone else because
that one would be on them. Yes it is the state's reasonability to protect the rights of its citizens but
the fetus is unborn therefore it cannot possibly be a citizen. Abortion is legal because the
government wants to protect the rights of the woman and let them have a safe procedure instead of
putting them at risk. Sure abortion is murder but that isn't for pro–life to determine what should

Abortion Is A Fetus A Living Human
Is a developing fetus a living human? Is a fetus not considered a human until the second trimester?
Does poverty, rape and disability justify an abortion? Is the abortion dilemma truly black and white?
Abortion is one of the most common medical procedures performed in the United States each year.
Nearly one in four of all pregnancies end in abortion equalling 42% of all yearly deaths around the
world. For pro–life supporters, they say that life begins at conception; the instant when a sperm cell
unites with a egg cell. For pro–choice supporters, they say at birth, a baby is a living human. At
conception, they know it is something but they don't consider it a human life. Since 1973, the

because of abortion. How should society respond to the huge increase in the amount of abortions
over the past few years? Society needs to make a big change and make abortions illegal. People
think it is acceptable to kill someone who doesn't even have a say yet. People think it is acceptable
to put their rights before two other individuals. Why though? Why take what seems like the 'easy
way out' all the time? Society is showing people that it is okay to kill unborn fetuses. Society
certainly needs an effective way of preventing abortions. But in the end, the fact that abortion has
been legalized in America since 1973, shows that right now our problem is only going to get bigger

Alcohol Effect On Fetus Essay
The Effects Alcohol Can Do to your Fetus
Psychoactive drugs can not only act on the nervous system, but it can also change your moods and
modify perceptions (Santrock). Psychoactive drugs can range from consuming caffeine products to
taking methamphetamine; but alcohol can be devastating on the mother's offspring. Alcohol can
cause abnormalities, disabilities, and deformities to the fetus when the mother consumes a heavy
amount of alcohol. Any form of alcohol can leave a bad affect on the fetus, but it will not get better
throughout the child's life. Before getting into detail, the first major factor apart of this problem is
FASD. The textbook definition of FASD is," Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is a cluster of
abnormalities and problems that appears in the offspring of mothers who drink alcohol heavily
during pregnancy"(Santrock). This disorder causes some abnormal facial and body characteristics

physical, behavioral, and intellectual disabilities ("Alcohol"). Studies show that drinking 1 or 2
servings of alcohol a week will damage the fetus's development of the brain. Although, drinking
small servings a week will not cause FASD. According to the National Institutes of Care and Health

Rights Of A Fetus Essay
Rights of a Fetus Essay Every life is valuable, whether the life is growing inside of the womb or
outside of the womb. There are many controversies regarding the subject of the rights of a fetus.
Some believe that because the fetus it not yet in this world and has not yet taken its first breath, it
has no rights. Others believe that right at conception, the fetus has human rights. I believe that God
made all of us unique individuals right at fertilization and even as a tiny new form of life, we were
all human beings which possess human rights. A fetus is its own being and should have its own
human rights.
Fetus Rights through Gestation The argument still stands today whether a fetus is its own person in

In the germinal period which includes the creation of the fertilized egg, called a zygote, cell
division, and the attachment of the zygote to the uterine wall (Santrock, J., 2008). To me, I believe
that the germinal period is the only prenatal stage that you would not completely consider the fetus
as a human being because, though it is a living organism, it shows no indication of being a human.
Once in the embryonic period and fetal period, I believe the fetus should have complete human
rights. The embryonic stage is the stage when the embryo begins to develop organs which are the
first characteristics of a human being. This is why I would consider the embryo to be a human and
having human rights from two weeks till birth. According to the law (in most states), it is said that
women may not have an abortion after twenty–three weeks and at twenty–three weeks a child is able
to live outside of the womb. I have learned this because my, now 3 year old niece, was born at
twenty–three weeks and is a perfectly healthy child today with no problems. This means that a fetus
can be aborted when viable to live outside of the womb. Regrettably, though, the seeming clarity of
the viability rule

Why Is It Wrong To Kill A Fetus?
Since 1988, Canada has had no laws that regulate abortion, and it is totally legal. This needs to
change, it goes against everything in the charter of rights.
First off, it is a proven scientific fact that a fetus in the mother's womb is in fact a living human
being. So when you abort this living being not only are you committing murder but you are violating
the Charter under legal rights section 7 which states: 'everyone has the right to life'.
By saying that, it is okay to kill a human fetus, you are saying it is not a person and therefore has no
rights, which is not the case. Even if you believe that a fetus isn't a true person, it is a living being.
In our society, even though animals and pets are not humans, they have immense worth because they
are living. So why should it be any different for a fetus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But because the baby is still inside the womb, it is deemed morally ok? That just doesn't make sense.
Due to the Canadian government not acknowledging killing the fetus in the womb as murder, it is

'Every individual is equal before and under the law, and has the right to equal protection, without
discrimination based on: Disability, race, ethnicity, colour, religion, sex or AGE.
Canadians are discriminating against these babies because they have not been born yet! Which isn't
okay.

Warren's Theory Of A Fetus Essay
According to Warren, a fetus is not considered a person. She argues that there are two senses of
human: the biological sense and the moral sense. She states that a fetus is not a human in the moral
sense of things. She argues that a fetus, whatever stage of its development, satisfies none of the
basic criteria of personhood, and is not enough like a person to be granted even some of the same
rights on the basis of this resemblance. Warren states that a fetus's potential personhood is not a
threat to the morality of abortion since the rights of potential people are invariably overridden in any
conflict with the moral rights of actual people. She argues that in order for a person to be a member
of a moral community there are five traits that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Warren has the reader think of a space explorer falling into the hands of an alien culture scientist
who is trying to replicate hundreds of humans by breaking the body of the space explorer and using
his genetic code. If executed correctly, the newly created society would have the potential to have all
of the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the original space explorer – classifying them as a person.
These newly created men would be potential persons. However, the space explorer has the choice to
escape – taking the potential of these people away – as the explorer has his own right to life that
outweighs the right of the potential lives since they are only potential and not persons, leaving them
no right. The space explorer obtains no moral obligation to sacrifice his life, or stay in captivity for
even a day, for the creating of any number of potential people. Warren wants one to understand that
the right to life of one person outweighs the right to life of any number of potential people. Although
a fetus is a potential person, Warren still holds that abortion is acceptable in all situations. As we
saw through Warren's space explorer example, the rights of the women will always outweigh the
right of the fetus because the women is a person and a fetus is only a potential person. Because the
fetus is a potential person, it has no right to life and not allowing

Pregnancy
"The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple
pies were made in the interiors of stars. We are made of starstuff." This quote from Carl Sagan
explains the complexity of the miracle of life. According to the World Health Organization,
pregnancy is the nine months or so for which a woman carries a developing embryo and fetus in her
womb. The combination of forty–six chromosomes, twenty–three from the father, and twenty–three
from the mother, give the push to the domino effect of constructing a human being from scratch. In

unborn offspring of a mammal, but in this case its an unborn human baby more than eight weeks
after conception. The fetal stage of development is taken as beginning at the gestational age of
eleven weeks, nine weeks after fertilization. The term "fetus" implies that an embryo has developed
to the point of being recognizable as a human being. The fetus is about 30 millimeter in length from
crown to rump, and weighs about 8 grams. This point is usually taken to the ninth week after
fertilization. A fetus is also identified by the existence of all the major body organs, they will not yet

After the Roe v. Wade decision that a fetus does not qualify as a person or human being under
criminal homicide statues, Legislatures began to pass feticide statutes (When is Death of a Fetus a

How A Fetus Changes Into A Baby
In this chapter it talks about the development of how a fetus changes into a baby. The first part of the
chapter starts out by talking about how the zygote divides into the two cells. With another 36 hours
the zygote becomes 32 cells. This time period of conception is call germinal stage. In the first few
days in the germinal stage the cell mass takes the form of a fluid–filled ball called a blastocyst. The
dividing cells cell moves through the fallopian tube, then they go throw to the uterus. This chapter
also talks about how although humans are not chickens their babies are formed in the same way.
Like in a chickens egg the yoke develops into a baby chicken, and in a human the embryo becomes
a fetus. Then the chapter starts to talk about the different things bleeding while being pregnant can
mean. Although a majority of people believe that if a woman bleeds while pregnant mans that she
has had a miscarriage, it can mean many of different things. Miscarriages can be caused by many
different things, and can cause many different types of problems. Such as a high risk of having
anxiety and it also puts relationships at a higher percentage of ending. One third of percent end in a
miscarriage. Miscarriages happed within the first three months of pregnancy. Woman who are over
the age of thirty are more likely to have a miscarriage. Miscarriages can be cause from many things
such as chromosomal problems, substance use, or hormonal problems. The next thing that this

Is Abortion A Fetus?
In our world there are many controversial topics. Now some of these topics are only a phase and last
only a few months, if not just a few weeks. However, one topic that seems to be the controversy of
the century is abortion. For this particular topic people are very opinionated and are not afraid to
share exactly how they feel. There are two sides of the spectrum when talking about abortion. There
is prolife or prochoice. Prolife are those who believe that a fetus should not be aborted. While
prochoice are those who feel that it is the mother's right to choose to birth the fetus or not. No one
ever really stops to think what would the fetus want. Some people would not even consider this a
viable option. This is because there are some who believe a fetus, unborn child, should not have
rights. Then there are those who believe that a fetus should and does have rights. While both sides
may have strong feelings towards their beliefs nothing can be accounted for without proper research
into the rights that a fetus currently has, the fetuses development and senses and the rights that
should be available to them. When considering a fetus's life the mother is always the one making the
decisions. She gets to choose whether or not this fetus will live or die. However, just because the
fetus isn't born yet doesn't mean that it doesn't have hands, feet, arms, legs and all the other parts
that humans have. This leaves us with the question, what about the fetus? Does the fetus have

Fetus Personhood
Over 1.3 million women make the decision to abort every year as a result of an accident or incident,
and all done with the mindset that either the fetus is not a human or the baby's life does not matter
(Every Child a Wanted Child). The rates are ever increasing as more women go to abortion clinics to
erase the unwanted. Many lives could be saved if women recognized fetuses as human beings.
Using four simple proofs, one can clearly determine the fetus inside the woman's womb holds the
title of a human being, and therefore, entitled to human rights making abortion an unacceptable
murder.
Does a fetus' size affect their personhood? It does not, yet human adults have decided that a person's
value is based on size. This shows that we believe fetuses have less of a right to life than an already
born human because they are smaller. A child is smaller than an ... Show more content on

A fetus is less developed than a human baby, that much we can all agree on. Development changes
as humans age, therefore, a toddler is less developed than an adult. Then, if a fetus can be ended,
could not a toddler be also? For neither are fully developed human beings.
Following that, one must determine whether the fetus' environment really determines whether or not
it is a human. One may say, the fetus is clearly not human until it is born. To that, I would ask, does
location really change a human's personhood? Afterall, humans live in all different locations. A fetus
is not human merely because it is inside of the mother.
Next, we must look at the fetus' degree of dependency. An argument commonly made is that the
fetus could not be human as it is completely dependent upon the mother for survival. However, what
they will not say is that along with the unborn, newborn and toddlers also depend on mother for
survival. Leaving the three alone without any parental care would result in

Abortion problem in Texas
Did you know that out of the 50 states, Texas is ranked number 4 in total abortions performed
according to AGI Data (Texas). Abortion is defined as "removal of the embryo or fetus from the
uterus in order to end a pregnancy" (Dictionary.com). To end an innocent child's life using rather
horrific procedures is not only unethical for the doctor to execute, but morally wrong. There are lots
of questions surrounding the topic of abortion and some of those include: Is a developing fetus a
human being in its early stages? What effects does abortion have on people afterwards? Is killing a
fetus considered murder? What about abortion in rape cases? Although the number of abortions is
high, that number has definitely been going down every year.
We really don't know exactly when a fetus starts living, but according to the facts the baby's heart
beat starts at 3 weeks after development in the womb. At 6 weeks movement of arms and legs
begins. Also at 6 weeks brain waves can be measured. At 20 weeks the baby is viable. This is where
people think differently. Some people believe that life begins on day one and some like to believe
the facts and don't consider the fetus a being. Suppose you have 50 drinks and one is poisonous.
Would you take a chance at drinking one of them? Most would say no because they wouldn't want to

a fair chance to people with any type of retardation. Whether it be a fetus that will be born with only

places designated to care for such babies like this. I think the woman should have her "retarded"

First off, I am pro–choice for abortions performed by mothers that were impregnated against their

fourth points are somewhat related: third – I am against using abortion as a sole form of birth
control; and fourth – I am not against the use of "morning after" pills to help prevent a pregnancy
from taking place. And my fifth and final point made in this paper, is that I am against having an
abortion to avoid giving birth to some sort of a deformed baby. When taking all of my points into

gray when it comes to abortion. In some cases I

Is It Moral To End The Life Of A Fetus
Abortion is one of the most debated issues in society today. For now avoid the question of legality
and ask the moral question. Is it moral to end the life of a human fetus? Does the fetus have any
rights and any value? Science tells us that you have human life at the moment of conception. Keith
L. Moore and T.V.N. Persaud write "A zygote is the beginning of a new human being." A human
being begins at fertilization, the process by which a male sperm and the female egg combine to form
a single cell called a zygote. Pro–choice advocates say that a fetus has no rights because it is not a
person. If this is the case that doesn't mean a fetus has no value or rights. Dogs, giraffes, lions, even
chickens are all living beings, not people, yet they have rights and value. A living being doesn't have
to be a human in order to have value and rights.
Another argument pro–choice advocates make is the rights of the mother, that she has the right to
end her fetus's life for whatever reason she deems necessary. This is only moral if we believe that
the fetus has no worth. We can agree that most people think that a fetus has infinite worth if the
mother wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women use the common argument, "My body, my choice." Now that is completely correct.
However the fetus is not her body, it is in her body. It is a separate body from her own, that's why
the mother doesn't die when you kill the fetus. The fetus has its own heart and brain. Keith Moore
writes, "By the time a baby is eighteen to twenty–five days old...the heart is already beating. At
forty–five days after conception, you can pick up electroencephalographic waves from the baby's
developing brain. At eight weeks, there is a brain." The fetus is its own separate body. No one ever
asks, "How's your body?" when referring to the fetus. People ask, "How's the baby?" Therefore it is
not the woman's body and the argument, "My body, my choice." is

Pregnancy And The Birth Of A Fetus
Since 1955, ultrasounds have been performed on pregnant women to search for imperfections and
abnormalities during gestation. 1 These ultrasound machines use non ionizing sound waves to
produce images of the growing fetus. When they 're used in moderation and for diagnostic purposes
only, they 're considered safe. However, different studies have shown that there are possible harmful
affects that can come from obstetric sonography that directly affect the fetus when they 're
improperly used. There are a variety of types of ultrasounds that an expecting woman can receive
throughout the duration of a pregnancy. All of these types of ultrasounds use sound waves and have
the same goal in tracking the gestational age of a fetus, growth and development, placental location,
to detect irregularities that may occur throughout a woman 's pregnancy, and to monitor amniotic
fluid volume levels. 1 Obstetric sonography can affect a fetus by creating mechanical vibrations,
heat, and air bubbles in the fluids of the baby 's body. When women receive ultrasounds for medical
use, they are performed by trained technologists, supervised by doctors, and the principle of
ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) is applied during the exams. After the development of
ultrasounds, people started to use them for entertainment purposes and to have a souvenir picture of
the baby.2 These unnecessary exams were administered by "untrained, unlicensed technicians, and
often without a doctor 's
supervision."3

The Morality Of The Abortion Of A Fetus
Introduction: In this essay, the morality of the abortion of a fetus will be discussed in a drama
involving a married couple named Deb and Derek (Smolkin, Bourgeois & Findler, 2010). For
clarification purposes, we must first define the topic of this discussion; abortion is defined as the act
in which a female voluntarily terminates her pregnancy where this act is legally permitted (Warren,
1973). Deb who is 16 weeks pregnant discovers that the fetus she is carrying will most likely be
born mentally challenged (Smolkin et al., 2010). As the drama unfolds, the couple ponders the
negative impact this child will have on their business, marriage as well as the quality of life that
their child will experience if it is carried to term (Smolkin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Marquis concludes that abortion deprives a fetus of its potential life and ultimately results in the
greatest loss one can comprehend: life (1989). It is important to note that there are many arguments
regarding what constitutes a person, or when in development a fetus attains personhood; however, in
Deb's case we will consider the 16–week–old fetus in the drama to be a person.
Targeted Objections to Anti–Abortion: When finding objections to how one considers abortion to be
morally impermissible, it is clear to see that one can target flaws in the argument that if one is
satisfied with themselves being terminated during their mother's pregnancy then they must provide
that courtesy to an unborn fetus. Although objections to this example are hard to come by for the
person experiencing what constitutes a "good life", it is easy to consider scenarios in which we
could potentially exist in, and decide whether we would be satisfied with a future that is less than
desirable (Hare, 1975). From the latter, it seems logical to argue the potential value of one's
satisfaction with future with the potential of one's dissatisfaction of the future due to unforeseen
circumstances. When considering the many undesirable potential

In the video titled Fetus at 12 weeks, in which I observed, it is really hard to tell how big the fetus is

important in normal development.
The fetus may develop at a different rate and different skills than another fetus, it is important that
they reach certain milestones. If the fetus is advancing at a normal schedule we can come to the
conclusion that the fetus is healthy and will not have difficulties. For instance, fetus' can suck their

Researcher from New York University, psychiatrist Dolores Malaspina, found that women who were

detrimental to the fetus's brain. Low income families and countries are at a higher risk for perinatal
common mental disorder (Rylander, et al par.33). Research that has been put to rest is that the fetus
is completely protected from the outside world, such as the affects of air, water, alcohol and second
hand smoke. The child has an increased chance of being directly fed all these toxins from the mother
in which the amniotic fluid is a link to both. This is a crucial time for mother and child, being that

that it is after four months/seventeen weeks of her pregnancy that Jessica went to hospital.

Rarely were the rights of the prospective mother, much less the prospective child, taken into
consideration. Although generally legal, the morality of abortion, birth control and child
abandonment (as a form of infanticide) was sometimes discussed. Then, as now, these discussions
often concerned the nature of man, the existence of a soul, the beginning of life, and the beginning
of human personhood. If a fetus is a person, it is a person in very special circumstances – it exists
entirely within the body of another much larger person and usually cannot be the object of direct
action by another person. The position Marco and her wife is not that clear from the available case
study. But the position of Aunt Maria is very clear. She holds the view or the theory that of the "pro–
life" movement. Here the emphasize is on the right of the embryo or fetus to gestate to term and be
born. She is very clear about the status of the fetus as it is human life and that is to be protected by
all means. The fetus has the right to be germinated and to be born and grow in to its maturity.
Nobody has the right to terminate a life that God has created.

When medications must be consumed, it is important for the consumer to understand the possible
risks for the fetus. When referring to Teratogens, and medications specifically, timing is everything.
Typically when a doctor is prescribing a pregnant woman medication, he will look at the stage of
development the fetus is in. This is very important because, early on in a pregnancy, the fetus is

Fetus Development

  • 1. Fetus Development Genetics is the study of heredity and the different inherited characteristics (Dictinonary.com). All humans are made up of cells. Each cell contains chromosomes. Chromosomes are genetic material that determine many things about a person. For example, their height, hair color, eye color, sex, and personality traits. Deoxyribonucleic acid is in charge of the transmission of genetic materials. A single, cell develops into the large organs that is a human newborn infant in 266 days (Infant and Early Childhood Development). Prenatal development is the process of growth, differentiation, development, and maturation between fertilization and birth (Dictionary of Medical Terms). A human has 23 pairs of chromosomes. The developing fetus gets half ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The human body develops from a single cell produced from the joining of the male and female sex cells. This joining marks the beginning of the prenatal period. There are three stages. The first stage is the pre–embryonic stage. The first two weeks of development, which is a period of cell division and initial differentiation. The second stage is the embryonic stage. Which lasts from the third to the eighth week of development. The third stage is the fetal period. Which is the maturation of tissues and organs and rapid growth of the body (Prenatal ... • 3. The Abortion Of The Fetus I am going to argue that its is right to claim that, even if a fetus is a person, abortion is still permissible when one's risk in health/stability/happiness is threatened. I believe that any woman, who houses the fetus inside her body for estimated nine months have the right and the choice to abortion when it is for one's health, stability and happiness for both the mother and the unborn fetus. Thomson's argument is entitled as "Defense to Abortion". I agree to Thomson and her argument when it comes to aborting a fetus, even if a fetus is a person. Yes, it has it's own DNA, and it's own life but when it threatens the "house" that it stays in, which in this case would be the woman/mother's womb, I believe the abortion of the fetus, is permissible. Thomson states "it cannot be seriously thought to be murder if the mother performs an abortion on herself to save her life." (Thomson, Defense on Abortion, pg6) Thomson gives an example of a violinist being plugged into another human, using their blood in high hopes of survival by that person's kidneys extracting the poison from the violinist's blood. The person never agreed to do such, being that it was decided by the Society of Music Lovers; but did not go against it by detaching himself from the violinist knowing that it can cause death. This explains that there are events where we don't have much of a freedom of choice when there is a conscious person/life involved meaning, when there is a conscious life in our hands, ... • 5. Zygote Vs Fetus The first premise states that a fetus is an early stage in becoming a human. It all starts with conception. When the sperm meets the egg, the combination is called a zygote. The zygote contains all of the genetic information (DNA) needed to become a baby. Half the DNA comes from the mother's egg and half from the father's sperm. The zygote then travels down the fallopian tube, in which, it forms a ball of cells called a blastocyst. The blastocyst is composed of an inner group of cells with an outer shell. The inner group of cells will become the embryo which is what will develop into a fetus. The fetus is the stage of development up until birth. Of course, after birth you have an infant, then a toddler, then a preschooler, then middle childhood, teenagers, and lastly adulthood. All of which came to be from a mere zygote. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every single human being body parts all share the same genetic code. If the mother and unborn child were not different people, the fetus's cells would have the same genetic code as the mothers. If a man kills a pregnant woman, he is convicted on two counts of murder. It is illegal to execute a pregnant woman on death row because the child is a separate human being (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Article 6.5). As you can see, a Fetus is its own human Being. Premise three tells us that all humans have the right to life. According to Appendix A: Universal Declaration of Human Rights," Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of person. "(Article 3) Being a zygote/blastocyst/embryo/fetus doesn't make it any less human than what it could be in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay On How To Abort A Fetus There are many methods used to abort a fetus. Some are quite gruesome, while others are less intrusive. The D&C (Dilation & Curettage) is occasionally used up to the twelfth week. The cervix is dilated and a cruet is inserted into the uterus. The baby's body is then cut into pieces and removed by suction. The uterine wall is then scraped, removing the placenta to empty the entire uterus. A D&E (Dilation & Evacuation) can be performed up to eighteen weeks. The uterus is entered with a forceps which grabs and twists the baby's body to dismember it. Sometimes the head needs to be crushed in order to remove it. Another form of abortion is the Hysterotomy which can be used in the last three months of pregnancy. The mother's stomach is cut open, much like a "C ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If it is born still alive, it is uncared for and left to die. The next type of abortion is called Prostaglandin. This procedure can be used during the second half of the pregnancy. A compound is injected into the muscle of the uterus, much like a hormone, which causes intense contractions and pushes out the baby. The contractions are so severe, that many babies are crushed to death. Again, if the baby is born still alive, they are then left to die. The RU–486 used in the seventh week of pregnancy is a synthetic steroid that blocks the hormone Progesterone. Once given the RU–486, the woman then takes a second drug, Prostaglandin, used to induce labor and expel the dead baby. There is another abortion drug named "Ella" that works the same way as the RU–486. The final abortion procedure is that of "Suction Abortion." After the cervix is dilated, a tube with a serrated tip is inserted into the woman's uterus. A suction, twenty nine times more powerful than a household vacuum cleaner, tears the baby's body apart and sucks it through the hose into a container. This is the usual method used in the United States during the first twelve weeks of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, they are the ones that initiated programs to decrease the lead exposure to its workers. Whenever employees receive a doctor's report stating that his or her lead blood levels are high, they would be transferred out with benefits. It's been proven that lead is toxic and can have ill effects on an unborn child, and these effects may not manifest themselves immediately at birth. In addition to that, lead levels that may be safe for a fully–grown adult are still toxic to a developing infant fetus. The policy established in 1977 did not result in protecting women and their children from excess lead levels. During the beginning stages of conception, the ill effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In any realm of the world, it is always better to be safe than sorry. The decision made should be that the company change it policy and implement the one that requires "complete exclusions of women with childbearing capacity from high lead exposure positions."According to the law book, Consequentialism deals with the ethics and morality of the consequence of actions instead of the actual actions themselves, so in other words, lying itself is not unethical, but the results of lying may indeed be unethical. While it may not be fair or necessarily ethical to exclude women from those toxic environments, the end result of the policy change would be ethical because it would prevent the lead from ever having the chance of affecting the potential unplanned child. The potential unborn child is the most affected from the policy change and stands to gain the most out of it; by implementing the policy, it would give the children of any unplanned pregnancies the opportunity to live a normal life without any defects due to the absence of toxic lead levels. The end result of a healthy baby justifies the means of potential unethical exclusion of women from a toxic even if they want to environment. It is additionally concurred that the mental component of premature birth can't be disregarded on the grounds that fetus removal is, without question, a critical life occasion causing high mental worry at the time. Argent proposes that fetus removal may include sentiments of blame, disgrace and lament. Some emerge from the ideological perspectives or suspicions of the creators and some emerge as a result of poor strategy. Some writing is one–sided toward the desire for extreme negative responses of women who have encountered fetus removal and a few writers are exceptionally incredulous of this. These creators feature the improper speculation of conclusions from these examinations and propose they are "of constrained logical legitimacy and educate small concerning the experience of by far most of abortion patients". There is considerably less recorded data with respect to the potential constructive outcomes that fetus removal may convey to the women or the impacts on women when abortion is denied, a special case being the paper by Dagg (1991). • 15. Abortion And The Legal Rights Of The Fetus One of many questions being debated today is Abortion and the moral legal rights of the fetus. Usually debates about abortion focus on politics and the law. Some believe that the law shouldn't legislate morality, but all good law is based upon moral values. Behind the debates are more fundamental ethical questions which aren't always given the specific attention they deserve, like debating the legal status of the fetus. Is the point of conception considered life of the fetus and does that fetus have rights? Many consider the point of conception as the first stage in human development. From a political perspective the first and most fundamental human right is the right to live. If this is so then the fertilized egg would not only have the right to life, but should have the right to develop like any other person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 17. Teratogenic Effects Of Alcohol On Fetus Effects of Alcohol on Fetus Teratogen Defined. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is known to have teratogenic effects. Teratogen means that a particular agent is known to cause abnormalities on a developing embryo. The teratogenic effect the alcohol will have on the embryo is highly dependent on dose and frequency of consumption. As stated in the medical journal, Alcohol Abuse In Women, "Exposure to heavy drinking (over 48–60 gr. ethanol/day) may cause fetal alcohol syndrome; exposure to moderately high drinking, between 24–48 gr. ethanol/day which may result mostly in "alcohol effects...." Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, is known for the physical abnormalities it causes. Children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome have abnormal facial features, such as a smooth ridge between the nose and upper lip, small head size, shorter than average height and low body weight. FAS also causes problems in the central nervous system and may cause a wide range of behavioral issues (CDC,2015). Alcohol– Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder has properties that may not be readily visible right after birth. The reason being that the disorder is based on the effects it has on the child intellectually and behaviorally. These effects are prominently seen when the child is older. These children have difficulties with math, memory, attention, judgment, and impulse control (CDC, 2015). The last Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder that will be discussed is Alcohol–Related Birth Defects (ARBD). The defects associated with this disorder are problems with the heart, kidneys, bones and hearing. Other consequences of alcohol consumption while pregnant include spontaneous abortion, sleep and sucking problems as a baby, and death. All of these consequences can be easily prevented if a mother chooses to abstain from drinking while she is pregnant. References Ornoy, A. , & Ergaz, Z. (2013). • 19. To Kill A Fetus Pruss Analysis Rita Shamahsta Chris Corte February, 21, 2016 Response Essay I Was Once a Fetus: That Is Why Abortion Is Wrong First, Pruss asserts that abortion is wrong because killing a fetus is human. According to his article, the fetus isn't different from anybody. I agree with Pruss about abortion is wrong because the fetus has right to live. Moreover, a human fetus is simply of a human being at an earlier stage in development than I and you are nothing suggests that it is anything other than a human. A human fetuses are human, before and after birth. So because it is human, killing it is just as wrong as killing a fully developed, adult human being. Pruss is an associate professor of philosophy at Baylor University, states that, "each individual person develops from a fetus" (70). That's absolutely correct. And, of course, it equally applies to all human life. In addition to his thought that killing a fetus is wrong and a crime, Pruss confirms that killing a fetus is a crime with a victim. • 21. Fetus Brain Development Due to modern medicine, there are many ways that pregnant women can now see how their fetus is growing inside them. The woman's egg travels down the fallopian tube entering the uterus. It is fertilized by the sperm and its home for the next nine months. There is a long process before the baby arrives into the mother's arms. This is the beginning of conception and the development of the baby. The first trimester begins with the conception that leads to the sperm reaching to the egg within a day. The fertilized egg is to await in the uterus wall where the placenta also starts to form. • 23. Abortion Is The Destruction Of A Fetus In this essay, I will discuss my position on abortion, how it has changed, and how it compares to others' more established positions. Before I can begin this, however, I must first discuss the terms that will be used and their definitions. For the purposes of this essay an abortion is the destruction of a fetus at any point in development. A fetus constitutes a fertilized egg. At the moment the egg and sperm converge, the product is entitled a fetus. Prior to this course, my opinion on abortion was firm, but underdeveloped. I had a position that stated abortion to be immoral but acceptable in some cases. By this, I meant that it was always wrong, but could be understood in some cases, and thus, somehow, less of a wrongness. I see now the major issues with this argument and will use this essay to better clarify my position, and I will find myself aligning very closely with the views of Don Marquis, as portrayed by his article entitled "An Argument that Abortion is Wrong." I will expound upon these views as they are shared by mine, but will also cite portions from writings by Judith Thomson and Mary Anne Warren. I find that my position was developed by using terms and ideas from these three authors, but I will also discuss how their writings and views conflict with mine. My position has been altered by new knowledge, and new incorporation of different circumstances. Prior to this class, I had an opinion that abortion was wrong, but it was okay if the mother was raped or if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Birth Of The Fetus Essay Woman all over the world who are expecting a baby handle the life changing journey in diverse ways. Some are single first time mothers who are striving to find a way to make their predicament work, a few are surrogates who are carrying a baby for a family who are unable to conceive on their own, and many are families who are trying to broaden their current household. No matter what the reasoning is behind the conception of the infant, there is always the mystery of how much the fetus really absorbs as they are progressing within the womb. Studies all over the globe have been administered to uncover how much they obtain. Proving whether or not an infant will react the same way or indifferently outside of the womb when being presented with the same stimuli. These types of studies help exemplify what an infant actually retains outside of utero , and if all the classical music and endless conversations to the womb actually played a vital role in the advancement of the fetus' learning capabilities. Between the second and third trimester it is vital for the baby to continue to grow as much as possible. If the baby were to arrive after 24 weeks, it would be able to survive, but it would have to remain the NICU. During the six months, the eyelids finally open after being sealed during the entire pregnancy. Also the fetus has developed taste buds, eyebrows, eyelashes, and a grasping motion. Is the abortion dilemma truly black and white? Abortion is one of the most common medical procedures performed in the United States each year. Nearly one in four of all pregnancies end in abortion equalling 42% of all yearly deaths around the world. For pro–life supporters, they say that life begins at conception; the instant when a sperm cell unites with a egg cell. For pro–choice supporters, they say at birth, a baby is a living human. How should society respond to the huge increase in the amount of abortions over the past few years? Society needs to make a big change and make abortions illegal. People think it is acceptable to kill someone who doesn't even have a say yet. People think it is acceptable to put their rights before two other individuals. Why though? Why take what seems like the 'easy way out' all the time? Society is showing people that it is okay to kill unborn fetuses. Society certainly needs an effective way of preventing abortions. Alcohol Effect On Fetus Essay The Effects Alcohol Can Do to your Fetus Psychoactive drugs can not only act on the nervous system, but it can also change your moods and modify perceptions (Santrock). Psychoactive drugs can range from consuming caffeine products to taking methamphetamine; but alcohol can be devastating on the mother's offspring. Alcohol can cause abnormalities, disabilities, and deformities to the fetus when the mother consumes a heavy amount of alcohol. Any form of alcohol can leave a bad affect on the fetus, but it will not get better throughout the child's life. Before getting into detail, the first major factor apart of this problem is FASD. The textbook definition of FASD is," Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is a cluster of abnormalities and problems that appears in the offspring of mothers who drink alcohol heavily during pregnancy"(Santrock). There are many controversies regarding the subject of the rights of a fetus. Some believe that because the fetus it not yet in this world and has not yet taken its first breath, it has no rights. Others believe that right at conception, the fetus has human rights. I believe that God made all of us unique individuals right at fertilization and even as a tiny new form of life, we were all human beings which possess human rights. To me, I believe that the germinal period is the only prenatal stage that you would not completely consider the fetus as a human being because, though it is a living organism, it shows no indication of being a human. Once in the embryonic period and fetal period, I believe the fetus should have complete human rights. The embryonic stage is the stage when the embryo begins to develop organs which are the first characteristics of a human being. This is why I would consider the embryo to be a human and having human rights from two weeks till birth. According to the law (in most states), it is said that women may not have an abortion after twenty–three weeks and at twenty–three weeks a child is able to live outside of the womb. I have learned this because my, now 3 year old niece, was born at twenty–three weeks and is a perfectly healthy child today with no problems. This means that a fetus can be aborted when viable to live outside of the womb. Regrettably, though, the seeming clarity of the viability rule ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Why Is It Wrong To Kill A Fetus? Since 1988, Canada has had no laws that regulate abortion, and it is totally legal. This needs to change, it goes against everything in the charter of rights. First off, it is a proven scientific fact that a fetus in the mother's womb is in fact a living human being. So when you abort this living being not only are you committing murder but you are violating the Charter under legal rights section 7 which states: 'everyone has the right to life'. By saying that, it is okay to kill a human fetus, you are saying it is not a person and therefore has no rights, which is not the case. Even if you believe that a fetus isn't a true person, it is a living being. In our society, even though animals and pets are not humans, they have immense worth because they are living. She states that a fetus is not a human in the moral sense of things. She argues that a fetus, whatever stage of its development, satisfies none of the basic criteria of personhood, and is not enough like a person to be granted even some of the same rights on the basis of this resemblance. Warren states that a fetus's potential personhood is not a threat to the morality of abortion since the rights of potential people are invariably overridden in any conflict with the moral rights of actual people. Warren has the reader think of a space explorer falling into the hands of an alien culture scientist who is trying to replicate hundreds of humans by breaking the body of the space explorer and using his genetic code. If executed correctly, the newly created society would have the potential to have all of the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the original space explorer – classifying them as a person. These newly created men would be potential persons. However, the space explorer has the choice to escape – taking the potential of these people away – as the explorer has his own right to life that outweighs the right of the potential lives since they are only potential and not persons, leaving them no right. The space explorer obtains no moral obligation to sacrifice his life, or stay in captivity for even a day, for the creating of any number of potential people. Warren wants one to understand that the right to life of one person outweighs the right to life of any number of potential people. Although a fetus is a potential person, Warren still holds that abortion is acceptable in all situations. As we saw through Warren's space explorer example, the rights of the women will always outweigh the right of the fetus because the women is a person and a fetus is only a potential person. • 48. How A Fetus Changes Into A Baby In this chapter it talks about the development of how a fetus changes into a baby. The first part of the chapter starts out by talking about how the zygote divides into the two cells. With another 36 hours the zygote becomes 32 cells. This time period of conception is call germinal stage. In the first few days in the germinal stage the cell mass takes the form of a fluid–filled ball called a blastocyst. The dividing cells cell moves through the fallopian tube, then they go throw to the uterus. This chapter also talks about how although humans are not chickens their babies are formed in the same way. Like in a chickens egg the yoke develops into a baby chicken, and in a human the embryo becomes a fetus. Then the chapter starts to talk about the different things bleeding while being pregnant can mean. Although a majority of people believe that if a woman bleeds while pregnant mans that she has had a miscarriage, it can mean many of different things. • 50. Is Abortion A Fetus? In our world there are many controversial topics. Now some of these topics are only a phase and last only a few months, if not just a few weeks. However, one topic that seems to be the controversy of the century is abortion. For this particular topic people are very opinionated and are not afraid to share exactly how they feel. There are two sides of the spectrum when talking about abortion. There is prolife or prochoice. Prolife are those who believe that a fetus should not be aborted. While prochoice are those who feel that it is the mother's right to choose to birth the fetus or not. No one ever really stops to think what would the fetus want. Some people would not even consider this a viable option. This is because there are some who believe a fetus, unborn child, should not have rights. Then there are those who believe that a fetus should and does have rights. While both sides may have strong feelings towards their beliefs nothing can be accounted for without proper research into the rights that a fetus currently has, the fetuses development and senses and the rights that should be available to them. When considering a fetus's life the mother is always the one making the decisions. She gets to choose whether or not this fetus will live or die. The rates are ever increasing as more women go to abortion clinics to erase the unwanted. Many lives could be saved if women recognized fetuses as human beings. Using four simple proofs, one can clearly determine the fetus inside the woman's womb holds the title of a human being, and therefore, entitled to human rights making abortion an unacceptable murder. Following that, one must determine whether the fetus' environment really determines whether or not it is a human. One may say, the fetus is clearly not human until it is born. To that, I would ask, does location really change a human's personhood? Afterall, humans live in all different locations. A fetus is not human merely because it is inside of the mother. Next, we must look at the fetus' degree of dependency. An argument commonly made is that the fetus could not be human as it is completely dependent upon the mother for survival. • 56. Abortion : Is Killing A Fetus? Dima Potts Professor Terrell Government 2306 24 November 2014 Abortion problem in Texas Did you know that out of the 50 states, Texas is ranked number 4 in total abortions performed according to AGI Data (Texas). Abortion is defined as "removal of the embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy" (Dictionary.com). To end an innocent child's life using rather horrific procedures is not only unethical for the doctor to execute, but morally wrong. There are lots of questions surrounding the topic of abortion and some of those include: Is a developing fetus a human being in its early stages? What effects does abortion have on people afterwards? Is killing a fetus considered murder? What about abortion in rape cases? Although the number of abortions is high, that number has definitely been going down every year. We really don't know exactly when a fetus starts living, but according to the facts the baby's heart beat starts at 3 weeks after development in the womb. At 6 weeks movement of arms and legs begins. Also at 6 weeks brain waves can be measured. At 20 weeks the baby is viable. This is where people think differently. Some people believe that life begins on day one and some like to believe the facts and don't consider the fetus a being. Suppose you have 50 drinks and one is poisonous. • 60. Is It Moral To End The Life Of A Fetus Abortion is one of the most debated issues in society today. For now avoid the question of legality and ask the moral question. Is it moral to end the life of a human fetus? Does the fetus have any rights and any value? Science tells us that you have human life at the moment of conception. Keith L. Moore and T.V.N. Persaud write "A zygote is the beginning of a new human being." A human being begins at fertilization, the process by which a male sperm and the female egg combine to form a single cell called a zygote. Pro–choice advocates say that a fetus has no rights because it is not a person. If this is the case that doesn't mean a fetus has no value or rights. Dogs, giraffes, lions, even chickens are all living beings, not people, yet they have rights and value. A living being doesn't have to be a human in order to have value and rights. Another argument pro–choice advocates make is the rights of the mother, that she has the right to end her fetus's life for whatever reason she deems necessary. This is only moral if we believe that the fetus has no worth. We can agree that most people think that a fetus has infinite worth if the mother wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pregnancy And The Birth Of A Fetus Since 1955, ultrasounds have been performed on pregnant women to search for imperfections and abnormalities during gestation. 1 These ultrasound machines use non ionizing sound waves to produce images of the growing fetus. When they 're used in moderation and for diagnostic purposes only, they 're considered safe. However, different studies have shown that there are possible harmful affects that can come from obstetric sonography that directly affect the fetus when they 're improperly used. There are a variety of types of ultrasounds that an expecting woman can receive throughout the duration of a pregnancy. All of these types of ultrasounds use sound waves and have the same goal in tracking the gestational age of a fetus, growth and development, placental location, to detect irregularities that may occur throughout a woman 's pregnancy, and to monitor amniotic fluid volume levels. 1 Obstetric sonography can affect a fetus by creating mechanical vibrations, heat, and air bubbles in the fluids of the baby 's body. When women receive ultrasounds for medical use, they are performed by trained technologists, supervised by doctors, and the principle of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) is applied during the exams. After the development of ultrasounds, people started to use them for entertainment purposes and to have a souvenir picture of the baby.2 These unnecessary exams were administered by "untrained, unlicensed technicians, and often without a doctor 's supervision."3 ... • 64. Summary: The Most Gestated Fetus The moment I see it, I am just flabbergasted. This is the most gestated fetus, the closest thing to a baby I have ever seen," O'Donnell said. "She is like, 'OK, I want to show you something.' She has one of her instruments and she just taps the heart and it starts beating. I am sitting here just looking at this fetus and its heart is beating and I don't know what to think." "I don't know if that constitutes if it is technically dead or it's alive. It had a face. It wasn't completely torn up, and its nose was very pronounced, and it had eyelids, and its mouth was pronounced," O'Donnell continued. "Since the fetus was still intact, she said, 'OK, this is a really good fetus and it looks like we can procure a lot from it. We are going to procure a brain.' So, the moment I hear that, it means we are going to have to cut the head open." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "She gave me the scissors and told me that I have to cut down the middle of the face and I can't even, like, describe what that feels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. The Morality Of The Abortion Of A Fetus Introduction: In this essay, the morality of the abortion of a fetus will be discussed in a drama involving a married couple named Deb and Derek (Smolkin, Bourgeois & Findler, 2010). For clarification purposes, we must first define the topic of this discussion; abortion is defined as the act in which a female voluntarily terminates her pregnancy where this act is legally permitted (Warren, 1973). Deb who is 16 weeks pregnant discovers that the fetus she is carrying will most likely be born mentally challenged (Smolkin et al., 2010). As the drama unfolds, the couple ponders the negative impact this child will have on their business, marriage as well as the quality of life that their child will experience if it is carried to term (Smolkin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marquis concludes that abortion deprives a fetus of its potential life and ultimately results in the greatest loss one can comprehend: life (1989). It is important to note that there are many arguments regarding what constitutes a person, or when in development a fetus attains personhood; however, in Deb's case we will consider the 16–week–old fetus in the drama to be a person. Targeted Objections to Anti–Abortion: When finding objections to how one considers abortion to be morally impermissible, it is clear to see that one can target flaws in the argument that if one is satisfied with themselves being terminated during their mother's pregnancy then they must provide that courtesy to an unborn fetus. Although objections to this example are hard to come by for the person experiencing what constitutes a "good life", it is easy to consider scenarios in which we could potentially exist in, and decide whether we would be satisfied with a future that is less than desirable (Hare, 1975). From the latter, it seems logical to argue the potential value of one's satisfaction with future with the potential of one's dissatisfaction of the future due to unforeseen circumstances. When considering the many undesirable potential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Abort A Fetus Research Paper I believe that it is not right to abort a fetus. I believe that abortion is a sin. However, God gives each and every one of us freedom, who am I to judge if someone decide to exercise their freedom. For example someone who has been raped and become pregnant, I cannot judge that person if she decides to abort the fetus. Personally, I may be able to love that child unconditionally, but on the other hand that child may serve as a reminder of that particular traumatized experience which may be an unhealthy life to that mother to be. As a social worker and with God help, I can only be a succor to that particular woman and hope for the best. I believe that God created a man and a helper call woman and blessed them. • 70. Research Paper On Fetus In the video titled Fetus at 12 weeks, in which I observed, it is really hard to tell how big the fetus is but it is the size of a plum. Which is only a few inches long. The fetus has only begun to use reflexes really well. The fetus is actively squirming in the beginning. Though the mother will unlikely feel the fetus move at this time for at least a few more weeks. The fetus is moving well developed arms and legs which mimics a child running outside the womb and putting hands and fingers to his/her face. We note that fetal activity is an early sign of milestones to come. These milestones are important in normal development. The fetus may develop at a different rate and different skills than another fetus, it is important that they reach certain milestones. If the fetus is advancing at a normal schedule we can come to the conclusion that the fetus is healthy and will not have difficulties. For instance, fetus' can suck their thumb in the womb. This is important for the fetus once he/she is born to receive nourishment. The child will eventually be able to chew and swallow close to the end of the year of the child's first year out of the womb. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 72. Food Effects On The Fetus which has a direct link to the fetus's own stress and feelings (Paul 6–7). With that being said society and government have a different view and feel the need to push guilt on expecting mother's because " already food has been moralized by the fear of gaining weight" (Paul 20–21). Of all things that could be bad for the fetus, food specifically promotes a decrease in fear in the fetus as well as an increase in joy. The magical food that creates this wonderful euphoria is chocolate. Aside from positively affecting the fetus it has been shown to lower preeclampsia or a condition concerning increased blood pressure (Paul 40). Along with what the mother eats she must also worry about working. From the 1960's to today the average women working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researcher from New York University, psychiatrist Dolores Malaspina, found that women who were pregnant during the Arab–Israel Six Day War gave birth to offspring who were significantly more likely to develop schizophrenia as young adults. Stress alone on the mother can be extremely detrimental to the fetus's brain. Low income families and countries are at a higher risk for perinatal common mental disorder (Rylander, et al par.33). Research that has been put to rest is that the fetus is completely protected from the outside world, such as the affects of air, water, alcohol and second hand smoke. The child has an increased chance of being directly fed all these toxins from the mother in which the amniotic fluid is a link to both. This is a crucial time for mother and child, being that the defenses of both are at risk (Paul 8). A phenomenal woman by the name of Margaret Spinelli has developed a treatment of therapy for the specific needs of pregnant women, concerning the family, friends and relationships you have in your life. "Relationships, both past and present, assume a special importance when a woman is pregnant" (Paul 164). • 74. Fetus Brain Development Meth Usage and Fetus Brain Development A common teratogen that causes problems in pregnancy is the use of methamphetamine, a stimulant that affects a person's central nervous system, by the potential father or mother. Research on methamphetamine abuse among pregnant women is in progress and has been for several years, but the exact effects of prenatal exposure to this drug are still actually limited. It is common for a child of a mother who used meth during pregnancy to have brain development problems. The National Institute on Drug Abuse(NIDA), (2013) informs us that there have been only small samples of pregnant women researched for only using methamphetamine, therefore, the results are limited to knowing that "neurobehavioral problems such ... • 76. Age Of The Fetus Essay Introduction The first and foremost thing here in this case study is that the age of the fetus is not clear at all as it is told that Jessica finds herself pregnant six months before moving to their private quarters. Later it is told that four months later that they went to the clinic. So there is a natural doubt when did Jessica and Marco go to hospital for the tests? I proceed in this paper with an assumption that it is after four months/seventeen weeks of her pregnancy that Jessica went to hospital. The Theory / Theories The case is that of fetus abnormality where the fetus is seen in the scan as deformed or specifically without arms and also a possibility of having Down syndrome. It is true that the parents don't want such a child in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rarely were the rights of the prospective mother, much less the prospective child, taken into consideration. Although generally legal, the morality of abortion, birth control and child abandonment (as a form of infanticide) was sometimes discussed. Then, as now, these discussions often concerned the nature of man, the existence of a soul, the beginning of life, and the beginning of human personhood. If a fetus is a person, it is a person in very special circumstances – it exists entirely within the body of another much larger person and usually cannot be the object of direct action by another person. The position Marco and her wife is not that clear from the available case study. But the position of Aunt Maria is very clear. She holds the view or the theory that of the "pro– life" movement. Here the emphasize is on the right of the embryo or fetus to gestate to term and be born. She is very clear about the status of the fetus as it is human life and that is to be protected by all means. The fetus has the right to be germinated and to be born and grow in to its maturity. Nobody has the right to terminate a life that God has created. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Pregnancy: Effects On The Fetus: Article Analysis The article I found most interesting was, Prescribing in pregnancy: Effects on the fetus. This article focused on Teratogens, specifically medications, and how they can impact an unborn fetus. The article made it clear that completely avoiding medications during pregnancy is not always possible. When medications must be consumed, it is important for the consumer to understand the possible risks for the fetus. When referring to Teratogens, and medications specifically, timing is everything. Typically when a doctor is prescribing a pregnant woman medication, he will look at the stage of development the fetus is in. This is very important because, early on in a pregnancy, the fetus is more susceptible to the negative effects of teratogens. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
