2. What plagiarism is ?
Harvard website, points the idea that plagiarism is, the act of taking,
copying and using other persons work taking the credit for it without
“adequately crediting the source of the work” 1
But when we think on the word plagiarism, do we really know what it
means?, why do we call plagiarism to the act of taking someone else
work and using as ours.

3. Plagiarism - Origin
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the origin of plagiarism comes from
the latin “Plagium” and “Plagiarius”, which translated to English means
kidnapping, or kidnapper, and kidnapper, means abductor.2
So…
Plagiarism is the act of abduction of ideas.

4. How to avoid plagiarism
There are few techniques to avoid plagiarism, In this presentation I
will be using few techiniques that I found in Harvard college website
(this techniques can be found in the guide to using sources page of
the Harvard website.) 3

5. Understanding what you are doing
Before start writing about something, we need to have a good
understanding of the subject we are trying to write about. 3

6. Plan ahead
Once we have a good understanding of what we are writing about,
it is important to plan ahead what we will be integrating in our
context, so therefore we avoid copying ideas from other people
work. 3

7. Avoid reading other classmates
work
If we read a classmates work, we will be getting inspiration from it, at
the same time we will be copying his ideas and putting in our words,
but the right way to do it avoiding other people inspiration is
avoiding any type of sources that could feed and influence our
ideas. 3
