Corinthians 13 Vs 1-10 Analysis
Have you ever had God pull on your heart so much that you get up at 12:17 to get a good read of scripture well on this wonderful night in june I got
that call. I have been studying 1 corinthians 13 as I have felt God tug on my heart to do a public speaking competition using this chapter. I can tell you
as the past couple months have gone by I have read this chapter over and over and receive different things each time. Well I feel lead to write, write
about what I'm reading and studying. After all what's the point of studying the material if i'm not going to apply and share it. Well tonight I want to
break down a couple verses and do that night by night. Tonight I want to dig into versus 1–3 " If i speak in the tongues of men and of angles, ... Show

Or say a random stranger comes up and in a loving manner tells you home beautiful you look today do you believe them....We can say all that we want
to but simply without love it has no structure. It may have seemed like I just restated the versus and threw in an example well this versus cant get too
much straight forward. Versus two " And if i have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and I have all faith, so as to
remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." basically it's a continuation of verses 1 claiming you can have every power in the world and still
be nothing but with the help of a little love you can be a great thing so let's move to versus 3 "If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be
burned, but have not love, I am nothing." still is a continuation of versus 1 and 2 but her it states you can do all the actions and still those actions would
mean nothing without love. See a common thread here it all comes back to love. To even look at the big picture most of the bible somehow finds a way

I Peter 3:18 "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but

each time they sin. Such folks would be wrapped up in a network of patches. Jesus was put to death in the flesh for the sins of the world and made alive

The Importance Of The Gospel
To Paul the gospel is not just a message of salvation. To him it has life changing power. Through many of Paul's letters he has highlighted the
importance of the gospel. Using Romans, Galatians, and Corinthians, Paul has shown us that the gospel (a.k.a. Good News) is all centered around
Jesus. The gospel that Paul preached in Romans states that "the Good News is about his Son" (Romans 1:3). The gospel is part of the trinity (1:2–3),
and it is foretold in the scriptures. Paul states this in Romans 1:2 "God promised this Good News long ago...." Written for everyone, Jews and Gentiles
alike. His gospel is a calling to everyone, reminding us that we have the authority to tell "what God has done...." Calling everyone to salvation, service,
and a change in lifestyle to live like a Christian. He also preached that Christians need to live a life full of obedience. The gospel reveals that the Good
News is the "Power of God at work, saving who believes..." (1:16–17). Paul is able to have boldness because of the power of the message itself. Paul
teaches us in the first two chapters of his letter that his gospel is Christ Crucified. He reveals that God is the source of his gospel (1:11–12). Instead of
being taught a law–free gospel as others have been. God revealed the gospel to him, showing that the gospel does not consist of the old Jewish laws.
His gospel taught us that through faith we can receive the Holy Spirit. Then the Holy Spirit is able to work miracles because of our belief.

Corinthians 1 Colossian Religion
The Church We teach that all who place their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately placed by the Holy Spirit into one united spiritual Body, the church
(1 Corinthians 12:12–13), the bride of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:23–32; Revelation 19:7–8), of which Christ is the Head (Ephesians 1:22;
4:15; Colossians 1:18). We teach that the formation of the church, the Body of Christ, began on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1–21, 38–47) and will be
completed at the coming of Christ for His own at the rapture (1 Corinthians 15:51–52; 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18). We teach that the church is thus a
unique spiritual organism designed by Christ, made up of all born–again believers in this present age (Ephesians 2:11–3:6). The church is distinct from
Israel (1 Corinthians 10:32), a mystery not revealed until this age (Ephesians 3:1–6; 5:32). We teach that the establishment and continuity of local
churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:23, 27; 20:17, 28; Galatians 1:2; Philippians 1:1; 1 Thessalonians 1:1;
2 Thessalonians 1:1) and that the members of the one spiritual Body are directed to associate themselves together in local assemblies (1 Corinthians
11:18–20; Hebrews 10:25). We teach that the one supreme authority for the church is Christ (1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We teach that it is scriptural for true churches to cooperate with each other for the presentation and propagation of the faith. Each local church,
however, through its elders and their interpretation and application of Scripture, should be the sole judge of the measure and method of its cooperation.
The elders should determine all other matters of membership, policy, discipline, benevolence, and government as well (Acts 15:19–31; 20:28; 1

Critical Analysis Of Tess Of The DUrbervilles
Tess of the D'Urbervilles: A Critical Analysis
"If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal." This is the first
verse in 1 Corinthians 13, which starts the passage off talking about how important love is. In 1891, Thomas Hardy published his book, Tess of the
D'Urbervilles, in newspaper form and published it in book form in 1892. Hardy was born on June 2, 1840. With his family, he lived in Dorset, England.
In fact, the Dorset scenery is said to have inspired his novel. Because of the biblical allusions in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, it reveals that the way
characters reacted and behaved did not follow the examples set in 1 Corinthians 13, such as love, justice and judgment In Tess of the D'Urbervilles,
Tess is soon involved in something that goes against her will: Alec rapes her. In her society, this kind of situation meant that no man would have wanted
her. Unfortunately, it did not matter if she had been in the wrong place at the wrong time or had even picked an immoral career. With strict rules and
social customs, she would have had to encounter a really forgiving person if she had any chance at marriage. When something tragic happens to people,
they usually go talk to someone that will comfort them and tell them that everything is going to be okay. However, Tess's mom did not exactly show
that attitude towards her daughter. She would disturb her in saying things like, "Why did you

What We Talk About Love And 1 Corinthians
What is love?" People experience love in different ways. Everyone experiences love and people give. Love is the one thing that can overcome so many
of the difficult times that we are faced with in life. It can even turn all of the ugliness in the world into the most beautiful portrait we could ever have
the pleasure to behold. In What We Talk about When Talk about Love, characters experience love in different aspects and in 1 Corinthians 13 explains
that without love everything is nothing. This essay will argue what is love and it will compare portrayal of love in What We Talk about When Talk
about Love and 1 Corinthians 13.
What We Talk about When Talk about Love did demonstrate what love is. For example, in paragraph three it says "Mel thought real love was nothing
less than spiritual love." This support thesis statement because Mel doesn't believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instant, in lines 3 it says "If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing."
This supports thesis statement because If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love
others, I would have gained nothing. Also this supports thesis statement because if you gave everything away to other and didn't love others you gain
nothing. This defines what love is because without love you don't gain anything.
What We Talk About When We Talk About Love illustrates a good definition what love is. For example, in paragraph 57 it says "physical love, that
impulse that drives you to someone special, as well as love of the other person's being, his or her essence, as it were". This supports thesis statement
because he was talking about the physical characters of love and this supports thesis statement because they were talk about real love. This support
thesis statement because this shows a different type of love which is physical

Short Essay on Pneumatology: Spiritual Gifts

Short Essay on Pneumatology: Spiritual Gifts
Spiritual gifts are capacities given to believers in Christ or "useful functions for God" in spiritual service. The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23) is
produced in believers by the Spirit to sanctify them through the production of His character. Spiritual gifts are abilities used in service to God while
spiritual fruit involves the character of Christians. The Fruit of the Spirit, produced only by the indwelling of the Spirit, exhibits the spiritual maturity of
believers.
My personal definition of spiritual gifts is the following: Spiritual gifts are abilities given by God to every Christian for different types of service, each

1 Corinthians 13 Research Paper
One of the most common things that is celebrated is love. We have marriage ceremonies centered around our love for our partner; we have special days
such as Valentine's Day to show our appreciation for others; and we have songs about our loved ones. Almost all of the things we do are ways for
humans to dedicate their life to love. In the New International Version of the Bible love is stated about five hundred and fifty times. One of the most
memorable references of love in the Bible is one that is commonly read at sacred marriage ceremonies and is frequently quoted in captions on social
media. The verse mentioned is 1 Corinthians 13. In verses one through three of 1 Corinthians, it is said that without love we are worthless. For example,

Nash said that "the very qualities of love that he [Paul] enumerated stood in clear contrast to their [Corinthians] own behavior" (Nash 386). This
contrast can be true to this day as well with most people finding language and knowledge more important than love. Nash also believes that love is a
way not a gift and "the way of love transcends the pursuit of individual fulfillment and leads to true community" (Nash 386). The main point that Nash
was trying to get across what that "Paul showed a preference for verbs rather than adjectives" in order to enumerate "the point that love is not simply a
feeling; it is a lifestyle, love involves action" which "is defined by the cross of Christ" (Nash 386). The purpose of 1 Corinthians is for the audience to
take action with God because of the love the audience has for him. The audience is meant to be moved emotionally through love so they can act upon
that love for the better of the community. Love is the way to become fulfilled and can be done perfectly through

Taking a Look at the Pauline Epistles
The Pauline epistles are very crucial to the understanding of how a church and a Christian should act. Throughout all the letters, different subjects have
been touched creating almost a guide of "how to's". The farewell is especially important as noted in Second Corinthians 13 explains the depth of God's
love to the people and the wrath of doubtfulness. "since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking though me. He is not weak in dealing with
you, but is powerful among you" (13:3). With corrections in the beginning of the letter, or a defense towards Paul's teachings, shows the continuation of
the struggle of Corinth, yet they were doing better as spoken by Titus. Paul's final request towards the people of Corinth is found in his second letter (2
Corinthians). The last chapter however is similarly a conclusion, or overview of the letter. Although there are some differences throughout the
translations, Paul's final message/warning is evident and clear. The passage is split up into two or three sections, depending on the translation used.
Within the New King James Version (NKJ), the breakdown is evident by how the paragraphs are structured to set apart main ideas. Verses 1–4 are
thought of as the reminder of what's Paul's message entailed. No matter the translation Paul quotes Deuteronomy 19:15, "One witness shall not rise
against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established" (NKJ; 2

Agape Love Analysis
Paul states at the end of chapter 13, "the greatest of these is love". Love is a common word used in modern day society through many types of
expressions. It may describe the emotion towards an object of affection, or it may be used as an over dramatization of a liking one takes to a certain
type of food per–say. Its used to describe feelings toward a sexual relationship, or feelings towards family member, or friends. In the English language,
there is an almost limitless amount of uses for that one little word. Yet, in the time of this letter love as agape love was not a common terminology for
what Paul was expressing. Therefore this paper plans to touch on what exactly it means when a Roman Jewish man, growing up and proclaiming the
Gospel to a Hellenistic society in 57 AD claims that "the greatest of these(faith, hope, love) ...is love".
Background of the Passage Paul sent the letter to the Roman city of Corinth, a city known for its immorality. Though they had many gods and
goddesses, one of the main temples was dedicated to the goddess of love, Aphrodite, which in her temple had hundreds of temple prostitutes (pg. 5,
Kistemaker). Along with this temple, there were many other temples and religious centers, even Jewish synagogues, which were dispersed throughout
Corinth (pg. 3, Fee). It was a very diverse city filled with Jews, Greeks, slaves, free, prostitutes, ex–soldiers, etc. The church in Corinth was started by
Paul on his second missionary trip around 51–52 AD,

1 Corinthians 11-14 Analysis
In the text, 1 Corinthians 11–14, there are numerous problems Paul addresses regarding the church in Corinth. The first, in chapter 11, has to do with
whether or not women should wear head coverings. Secondly, Paul also provides instructions regarding how the Lord's Supper should be treated, for it
seems it was being done in an "unworthy manner" at the church in Corinth. In chapter 14 Paul gives specific instructions as to what function prophecy
and speaking in tongues should serve in the church. Lastly, at the end of chapter 14, Paul instructs the Corinthians to worship in a manner that is
orderly. Furthermore, sandwiched in between these critiques and instructions chapters 12 and 13 are found. At first glance the topics of chapters 12 and
13 might seem unrelated to the critique that is taking place, however at a closer look it appears their placement was ... Show more content on

As mentioned earlier, these chapters can seem like a random placement within the context. However, at a closer look it appears these chapters were not
a random thought, but intentionally placed. In chapter 12, Paul discusses spiritual gifts. Through this information on spiritual gifts he goes on to explain
how the members of the church are like a body. Each member is different, but each plays a crucial part in order for the body to function properly. This
example seems quite appropriate in light of all the divisions the church was experiencing. Chapter 12 ends with Paul saying, "And I will show you still
a more excellent way," referring to love. He then addresses this subject in the following chapter. Paul emphasizes that everything addressed, such as
prophecy, speaking in tongues, and knowledge will pass away, but love remains. If the Corinthians put into practice the characteristics of love that Paul
gives, their problems would likely lesson or subside. Love, as defined by Paul, has the capability of carrying the Corinthian church through its

{I} SECTION ONE:
{Essential Doctrine}
(A)THE HOLY SCRIPTURES
1] We teach that the Bible is God's divinely inspired written supernatural revelation of Himself and His ways and purposes in relation to His elect
children and mankind in his current Adamic condition of sin and depravity in need of redeemption. Therefore the inspired (i.e. the out breathed word of
Jehovah) was given to His chosen servants, in times past, in a progressive manner, by various methods direct communication, visions and dreams etc
(Heb.1:1–2 with Numbers 12:8, Genesis 15:1; Matthew 1:20). Henceforth, the sixty six books of the Bible constitute the plenary (inspired equally in all

God 's A Perfect Law Of Liberty
Further evidence can be found throughout the Bible to support that the "perfect" is referring to the New Testament. In James 1:25, God's word is
referred to as the "perfect law of liberty". The New Testament contains "all things that pertain to life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3), which shows that it is
perfect and complete. God's word is capable of making man "complete" or "perfect" (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Another context that is very similar to 1
Corinthians 13:8–13 is Ephesians 4:7–16, which helps demonstrate this even more clearly. This passage is clearly referring to spiritual gifts, as is seen
in verses seven and eight. Verse eleven specifies what the gifts were, and verse twelve shows the purpose of those gifts (to help guide the early church).
In verse thirteen, Paul reveals that these gifts were a temporary measure, and would last "till we all come to unity of the faith and of the knowledge of
the son of God" or, until the completion of the New Testament! The revelation and completion of the New Testament fits into this context just as it does
in 1 Corinthians 13:8–13. Earlier, it was noted that the method by which spiritual gifts were transferred necessitated that it would end. It also provides a
relatively accurate timeline of the end of spiritual gifts. Because the apostles were the only ones who could transfer miraculous powers, the number of
individuals that possessed these gifts would begin to decrease after the all apostles died until there were none left.

God Reflection
I love to attend this small men's bible study at this little diner just down the road from where I live. It astounds me that despite the diverse framework of
backgrounds and beliefs, all the men in this group share similar struggles with the flesh. Struggles with fear, anger, lust, doubtfulness, and pride.
Struggles that are immensely difficult yet remain elementary pursuits in our walk with God. These struggles even the apostles battled through.
Ironically, the testimonies of these gentlemen encapsulated my journey with God over this past week. My eagerness to have the perfect life with a
magnificent God–Mate and children was being held back by my innate nature of being naturally flawed. Let me reconfigure the past week with you.
Closing up last week, I started speaking to a fellow classmate of mine who seems simply divine. She loves God, loves the medical field, is adventurous,
and is beautiful. Check, check, check, and double check. I genuinely contemplated the thought, "She is my bride to be, God you are so good, I am just
humbled by your blessing in my life, and all thanks be to you." Yet as the week went on, I realized that I never consoled God in on this matter. So I
asked God, "Is she the one?" He said, "No, you are not ready?" This conversation went without end for three days after which on the first day God said
to take a three–day sabbatical from speaking to her or looking at anything that she was doing, just worship in the presence of the Lord. It really

Early Christian Practical Issues
Introduction
Around 51 AD, Paul was in the city of Corinth. This city was made up of many different people with very different ideas concerning God, cults, and
moral depravity. While in Corinth, Paul was approached by a woman named Chloe who described to him the misdeeds of dissention, immorality and
wrong doing in the city. Dismayed, Paul immediately addressed the issues in his letters to the Corinthians.

8:1–13) Paul found that some believers felt that by eating meat they had a weak conscience because it had been defiled by the idols (Krell, 1995). Paul
tried to show his followers that it was safe to eat with a clear conscience by eating meat himself. Through this lesson Paul was also trying to teach that
"love was more important than freedom (8:1–6) and that "knowledge can make us arrogant, but love edifies" (Krell, 1995). With these sayings Paul was
giving permission for people to put their pride aside, remember that there is no such thing as idols and that there is only one true and loving God"
(Krell, 1995).
9. The Problem of the Role Men and Women Should Have in Christ 's Church ~ (1 Cor. 11:1–17) When Paul first addressed the Corinthians he told
them to imitate him and to "hold firmly to traditions" (v.2). One of the traditions in Corinth was for women to have their head covered. This was a
cultural custom that Paul initially commends as a symbolic gesture (Kinchen, 2012). Paul also teaches that wives should submit to their husbands and
husbands submit to the Lord.
10. The Problem of Abusing the Lord 's Supper ~ (1 Cor. 11:20–34) Around the time of the Lord's Supper, the Church of Corinth was in a problematic
state and Paul was instructing that any "unrepentant" people should not partake in Passover.

Love, And Friendships
True friendship can be defined as the relationship between two or more friends that contains mutual trust and support. Ordinarily, a friend is someone
who knows a person almost better than his or her own self. Friendships are not about keeping secrets from one another, judgement, or competition; they
are not one–sided or jealous. The ability of acting as one's true self without fear of what others may presume is true friendship. Trust, happiness, care
for one another, and loving as though a person is part of his or her own family are the structural beginnings of friendships. In the past, I had had several
friendships come and go. Through these experiences, I have learned how to maintain a real, healthy relationship with friends. One outstanding example
of the true meaning of friendship is found in the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13: 4–7; it reads, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self–seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in
evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Trustworthiness and feeling comfortable with one
another is one important factor of healthy relationships. According to verse seven in 1 Corinthians, "It always protects, always trusts... " Without trust, a
friendship will crumble. One needs a place to pour out the deepest emotions and feelings a person may have and be

Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet And 1 Corinthians 13
Loyal, Lasting Love For centuries, both William Shakespeare's play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and the New Testament's 1 Corinthians 13 have
been considered some of the great works of literature on the subject of love. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare tells the greatest love
story of all time consistent with St. Paul's description of true love in 1 Corinthians 13. Romeo, the heartbroken Montague, and Juliet, the innocent
thirteen year–old daughter of the rival Capulet family, truly experience love at first sight when they meet at her family's ball. As they fall in love with
each other, they quickly realize there are many obstacles to overcome for their relationship to work. Paul begins his definition of love with the

love "doesn't keep a record / of wrongs that others do" (1 Cor 13:5) when she says,"Come cords–come, nurse. I'll to my wedding bed, And death, not
Romeo take my maidenhead." (3.3.149–150). By saying this, Juliet shows the strength of the love between herself and Romeo by demonstrating that
not even a murder of a family member could separate their passionate bond. Although Romeo and Juliet show the most examples of true love
throughout the drama, other prominent characters also show love that abides by the guidelines in 1 Corinthians 13. Benvolio, Romeo's good friend and
cousin, provides one example of a character besides Romeo and Juliet who embodies the Christian definition of love. For example, Benvolio shows his
that his love for Romeo "is always supportive, / loyal, hopeful, / and trusting" (1 Cor 13:7) when Romeo sheds tears over the loss of his beloved
Rosaline, by telling him to "examine other beauties" and exclaiming to him that "[He will] pay that doctrine or else die in

Section Of 1 Corinthians 12-13 In The Harpercollins Study...
The first section of the note on 1 Corinthians 12:12–13 in the HarperCollins Study Bible leads the reader to contemplate the issue of unity in the body
of Christ, the lack of which is arguably the origin of most, if not all of the issues facing the Corinthian church. The Christians in Corinth were
challenged with several internal problems, many of which could have been solved by the members seeking unity in their diversity. Paul introduces the
idea that the church should function as the body of Christ, valuing the abilities and roles that God chose for each member. The first part of the note
states, "Like certain other ancient writers, Paul regards the human body as illustrating the point that unity and diversity are not incompatible, applying

The Corinthians had a way of self–praise and boasting over their superior actions. They would speak in tongues and prophecy in public "not to benefit
others who are in attendance but, in Paul's view, simply to elevate themselves in the eyes of others" (Bart Ehrman, A Brief Introduction to the New
Testament, p. 228). In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul lists the variety of gifts that various members of the church possess, saying that the Spirit has assigned
each gift to each individual. Paul wants the Corinthians to understand that God has given the individuals in the community distinctive roles and gifts
that, when used appropriately, better the church as a whole. To emphasize the importance of unity in the church, Paul writes, "For just as the body is
one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ" (1 Cor 12:12). Paul shows how each
member of the church has imperative value, just as each part of the body is essential for it to work properly. The Corinthians' problem of boasting
would fade away as soon as they acknowledge that there is value in the diversity of the members of the church. God placed each person in the role that
He intends for them to fill and everyone must recognize His placement. Greater than all other gifts is the gift of love. Love is crucial because it builds
up the community and strengthens every believer, regardless of their differences. Paul stresses that the most excellent gift is love, writing "If I speak in
the tongues of mortals and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all
mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing" (1 Cor

1 Corinthians 13: 8-13 Outline
Main Idea and Outline In 1 Corinthians 13:8–13, Paul writes to make clear that love is the most excellent way, because it eternally endures. In extolling
the superiority of love, Paul compares love with several coveted spiritual gifts, prophecy, words of knowledge, and tongues, and demonstrates that the
gifts listed pale in comparison to love, because the gifts are incomplete and temporary, while love is both perfect and eternal. An outline of this passage
of Scripture follows: I. In comparison to spiritual gifts, love is temporally superior because it is eternal. (13:8) A. Love is superior to prophecy, which
will pass away. B. Love is superior to tongues, which will cease. C. Love is superior to knowledge which will pass away. II. Spiritual ... Show more

Specifically, Paul tells the Corinthians that the one Spirit has given different gifts to the various members of the body. After focusing on the
interdependence of the members of the body, Paul then abruptly transitions to discuss a more excellent way in chapter 13, which has given many
scholars rise to refer to this chapter as a digression or interpolation. However, chapter 13 is instead a necessary link in the flow Paul's argument from
chapter 12 to 14. After discussing spiritual gifts in chapter 12, Paul, in essence, challenges the Corinthians in chapter 13 by asking them: Is love
demonstrated in the exercise of your gifts? Rather than being a hymn in praise of love, chapter 13 is Paul's subtle call to the Corinthians to pursue love
and thereby address the real problem in their church. After firmly establishing the importance of love in every aspect of the Christian's life (including
worship), Paul then returns to his discussion of the spiritual gifts in chapter 14, with the unspoken assumption that even the exercise of spiritual gifts
must be grounded in

Denominationalism: The Practice Of Miracles
There are many erroneous doctrines and practices in denominationalism. One that is very popular is the practice of miracles. From self–proclaimed
prophets, to "faith healers", to people who claim to speak in tongues, the practice of "miracles" is widespread in modern religion. It is easy to
understand why such things would be so wildly popular. Man has always had a fascination with that which is incredible, amazing, and "impossible to
explain". However, when it comes to anything in religion, it does not matter what we like or what we feel is best; God's word is the only thing that
matters because it is the only authority in religion.
In light of this, it is important to establish to Biblical truth on the matter of miracles. One passage that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While no clear correlation can be drawn between Christ and spiritual gifts, the relation between spiritual gifts and the revelation of the New Testament
is clearly seen. The gifts of prophecy and miraculous knowledge were a partial, incomplete measure of what is found in the New Testament. Spiritual
gifts (such as tongues, prophecy, and miraculous knowledge) were the means by which God revealed His will in the first century, but these things were
just a partial measure. God's full, complete revelation is the New Testament. The early church was guided with the help of these spiritual gifts, but
today the church is guided solely by God's word! The New Testament accomplishes everything that spiritual gifts did, and more. Therefore, it is
perfectly logical to consider the New Testament to be the "perfect" in comparison to spiritual gifts as the

Biblical View Of 1 Corinthians 11-13
Biblical View of 1 Corinthians 11:11–12; 1 Corinthians 13:1–13; and, 2 Corinthians 6:2–4 The book of Corinthians was written by Paul to bring clarity
to the, at the time, judgmental church. The Corinthian church was known for bashing others for sexual immorality, and not showing the love that Jesus
Christ shared. Even Jesus left messages to the people that Christians will be identified by their love, which is one of the fruits of His spirit. This is still
an issue today in the church, because as a whole, they have failed to embrace the fruits of the spirit when immorality is present. Therefore, Paul wrote
the books of Corinthians to address the heart of Jesus Christ, so that the people would not stray. In addition, Paul addresses the ... Show more content

It is important that people allow God to fix what is broken in the world, because our ways are not the wisdom of God as times. Meaning, we can take
judgmental matters into our own hands, and a precious soul could be lost. God is love, peace, compassion, and patience. Therefore, to enforce what we
consider as judgment may not be the person needs to live a fulfilling life in God. However, Paul was entailing that God was grieved by how his people
were being handled by the Corinthian church, which called down repentance.
Conclusion
The Corinthian church is a great example of how we should always consult God on how to be disciples of God. Also, this chapter gives great details on
how God would want us to handle each other, even if we feel that they are not living according to God's standard. In addition, God's love covers "And
above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8). In conclusion, we must remember
that we are not God, and his ways are not our ways. Also, His thoughts are not our thoughts; therefore, our job is to share God's love and not condemn

The Trouble With Idol Meat 1 Corinthian Analysis
Paul instructs the Corinthians in several aspects and teaches them how to live their lives as Christians. The Corinthian church has several serious
problems that they either ignore or simply think their sin is ok. Paul holds them accountable in all that they are doing and reprimands them. He
illustrates that he will either come to them with a gentle spirit or the rod of discipline. One of the topics discussed is idol meat. But what's especially
interesting is that the Corinthians brought it up first rather than Paul. The Corinthians thought it was a serious issue and were genuinely troubled by
what the right course of action was. The article I chose to discuss is "The Trouble with Idol Meat: 1 Corinthians 8:1–13,"by Mike Graves. This article ...

The hermeneutical move can be described as a direct bridge connecting two different time periods. It's one single move that makes the connection
between ancient text and 2017. This is actually a very daunting task to accomplish for leaders in the church when they are doing so many different
activities throughout the week that is also expected of them. If you are going to bridge the gap between ancient text and today with an honest effort
Graves brings up the point that it might be better not to achieve the gap all at once. That is a lot of information to handle right away, and if you want to
understand all the details it might be better to take one little step at a time." Nancy Lammers suggests that preachers are more like gymnasts on a high
bar, swinging back and forth between text and today throughout the week. The preacher studies the ancient text, all the while mindful of what is going
on in the community and the larger world, all the while engaging in ancient text; back and forth our thoughts race throughout the week."(Graves, pg

effective in illustrating this point by arguing with common sense. Studying scripture in smaller sections and relating that to our world might be more

Short Essay The most controversial and discussed subject in the Holy Bible would be the subject of spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are "gifts of God
enabling the Christians to perform his or her...services in church" (Elwell, 2001, pg.1135). Spiritual gifts are given by God to help complete His work
here on earth and also glorify His name. When we are chosen to by God to receive these spiritual gifts, He expects us to use those gifts in fulfilling His
commission, building up the churches, and giving back to Him. That "gifts are given for the common good, that the church may receive edification" (1

In hopes of the devil not being able to disrupt or hear our prayers.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit blesses someone with his presence after they have been saved. It is a very emotional experience
in which the person 'feels' the presence of the Holy Spirit. A biblical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is in second chapter of Acts where the
disciples were sitting together in the upper room and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled
them. Speaking in tongues is one of the things that happens when the Holy Spirit has baptizes us; it shows the presence of God is with the person.
Speaking in tongues is not a necessary sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in my opinion, although it did happened to the disciples when they got
baptized with the Holy Spirit. The gift of speaking in tongues does not really mean that the Holy Spirit baptizes one. It truly is one of the gifts that the
Holy Spirit gives, but it is not the only gift that appears once someone has been baptized.
I believe that the "speaking in tongues" is valid still today because the bible speaks on it and doesn't state that we shouldn't speak in tongues. 1
Corinthians 14:5 states, "I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than who speaks with
tongues..." (New King James Version). Though this verse is a bit confusing for my understanding, the

What Is True Love Essay
If I ask you, "What is true love?" What would you say? What do you think true love is? When I was 12 years old, I thought I knew what true love was.
There was a boy in my 6th grade class who was super handsome. He was so handsome that almost every class in my grade had at least one or two girls
who had crush on him. Almost every day during break time, there were girls hanging out outside of our classroom. They just came to watch him. When
it was Christmas, his desk drawer would be filled with Christmas cards from girls. Not to mention his birthday. I still remember his birthday. That's a
day lots of girls in my old elementary school didn't want to miss. Of course, his desk drawer would be filled with birthday cards and gifts.
I liked him, too. And since he and I were in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But do I understand it now? Maybe still not. I am still working on it. All of us are still working on it. This is a life–long lesson. Almost every time when
I watch the news, I see people killing people because they think it's all about "love." When we "love" someone, we want to take control of him or her. If
this person doesn't make me happy, if this person doesn't meet my expectation, then I am going to give him or her a hard time. I want myself to be the
center of this person's world. This is not love, this is selfishness.
Then do we have true love, the perfect love? Yes, we do. It has been mentioned in the Bible. Here's what the Bible says about true love: "Love is
patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self–seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps
no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love
never fails." (1 Corinthians 13:4~8)

Apostle's Closing Admonitions
The Apostle's Closing Admonitions and Benediction (16:10–24)
E. Harrison (p. 275) summarizes the message of the Epistle in these words: The greatest single overall emphasis seems to be on the unity of the local
church as the body of Christ, which is brought out not only in connection with the discussion of the groups (i.e.; the factions within the church), but
also in relation to the Lord's Supper and spiritual gifts. A corollary is the sanctity of the church as members of Christ, both corporately and individually,
(note, especially, such passages as 1 Cor. 3:16–17 and 6:15–20.) We may add, it is in this Epistle that the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul most
eloquently sets forth the supremacy of love as "the most excellent way," which the Christian is called to follow (1 Cor. 12:31b–13:13
The Mystery Surrounding the Missing Letters
The References to Two Other Letters
Sometime after his initial visit to Corinth, probably while he was ministering in Ephesus, Paul wrote a letter to the church, a letter to which he alludes
in 1 Cor. 5:9, "I wrote to you in my epistle not to have any company with fornicators." As D. Guthrie points out (p. 426), the gist of the contents of that
previous letter may be inferred from 1 Cor. 5:9–13.
The apostle had evidently issued a warning to the Corinthians to maintain a clear separation from those persons who continued to exhibit the pagan
lifestyle that was characteristic of Corinth. (As we have seen, the city was renowned for its

The Books Of Matthew And 1 Corinthians
Hermeneutical – Matthew and 1 Corinthians The books of Matthew and 1 Corinthians are mainly focused around love and what that is supposed to
look like through Christ. Starting with Matthew, it begins by walking us through the birth of Jesus and all of the events that took place during and after.
It also talks about his baptism and specifically that John the baptist was who performed it. After everything about Jesus' early life is introduced, it jumps
straight into his preaching. Chapter four of Matthew is where it really begins to talk about Jesus' work. Not only does it introduce us to his preaching
styles, but it also quickly introduces Satin who seems to follow Jesus around for a while attempting to cause problems. Matthew chapter four tells you
right off the bat what is about to take place. The first verse says, "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil."(NIV
Matthew 4:1). At this point, Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights, and the first temptation form the devil was food. He says, "...If you are the
Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."(NIV Matthew 4:3). Jesus of course rejects his temptation and the many more that followed. After these
events took place, Jesus leaves to begin his preaching. In doing so, he also chooses his disciples while walking along the Sea of Galilee. Jesus took his
disciples with him through Galilee and began his preaching there. He healed the sick and suffering, and also performed

Innate Sin of Selfishness
In the Confessions and the First Letter to the Corinthians, the respective authors delve into the nature of sin and prescribe solutions to problem of evil
so that Christians can understand the existence of evil. Human nature defined by both Paul and Augustine is the pattern drawn from actions that humans
without a stimulus. For Paul, the importance of love, and condemnation of the idea that all is permitted reveal his view of human nature. Augustine's
analysis of infancy and of his own sexual urges leads to a similar view of human nature. Both Paul and Augustine view the nature of humans as being
selfish while striving towards satisfying one's own physical needs. Paul rebukes the Corinthians based on rumors that they have interpreted his message
as all actions are permitted. Paul quotes the Corinthians saying, " "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for
me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food"–and God will destroy both one and the other.
The body is not meant for immorality" (1 Corinthians 6:12–13). The conclusion to draw from Paul's rebuttal is that the default actions that the
Corinthians took after Paul left were those that were to satisfy their physical needs. Paul mentions that gluttony has struck the Corinthians and that
gluttony in its very nature results in a physical satisfaction of being full. Although, not only were the Corinthians satiating themselves,

Essay on Pneumatology: Spiritual Gifts With a passion for theology and the word of God, it brings me great joy when asked to explain my beliefs.
While some aspects of our faith are a little simpler to explain than others, one that is continuously debated is that of spiritual gifts. Because of a
presented opportunity from a curious friend, I found it fitting to dive into the topic that is currently being debated at his home church. In Acts 2:1–4,
Paul recounts Pentecost as the ultimate outpouring of the Holy Spirit to all believers, indwelling and granting them with spiritual gifts. Ephesians 4:11–

Paul urges in 1 Corinthians 14:39–40 that speaking in tongues should not be forbidden, and be done in order. Brand, Draper and England add in their
commentary, "There is no compelling reason to believe that 'ecstatic utterance' is the same thing as the Biblical gift of tongues." (1606). There exists no
restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18–19), however should not be used in public places without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1
Corinthians 14:28. This would compromise the edifying design for unbelievers. Much controversy has been raised over 1 Corinthians 13 and what is
said to be "valid". Those negating the validity of speaking in tongues typically use 1 Corinthians 13:8–10 as the basis for their argument. However, the
verse is comparing eternal with temporal things. This is Paul's way of emphasizing peace in abiding things (like faith, hope and love) versus division
for the sake of the tongues controversy to the church (Smith). Verse 10 also brings about the discussion of what Paul refers to as "perfect". Even though,
those belonging to the Negative School argue "that which is perfect" is to be the full canon of the Bible, there is nothing that suggests that the Holy
Spirit will stop moving through this gift. When moving down to verse 12, it speaks of the time that the bride of Christ shall come "face to face" with her
groom. Because Jesus is the personification of perfection, I believe this "perfect

I really think the Apostle Paul, was quite right when he said, in his book the Epistle to the Romans, in the 12th chapter, that it all starts to and I quote,
"be transformed by the renewing of your mind".
How do we renew our minds? By living out love? In the 13th chapter of the First Epistle to the Corinthians, also written by Paul the Apostle, is written
a great summary of how love looks like.

In Judy Brady's "I Want A Wife" essay, love is satirized as more of an arrangement rather than genuine affection. Love is seen as selfish, rude, and
limiting. Brady uses hyperbole to exaggerate the position of what a stereotypical male ego (in the 1970s) thinks a wife should be and the unfairness of a
wife's role. Selfish diction is used to emphasize the husband's chauvinistic ideas of what a wife should be like: "I want a wife who will not bother me
with rambling complaints about a wife's duties. But I want a wife who will listen to me when I feel the need to explain..." Brady's purpose is to help
women realize the inequalities in gender roles and encourage them to push for more equal standards. Brady formats her essay by building rapport to

Love is described as "patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast...it does not dishonor others, it is not self–seeking." In "I Want A Wife,"
love is seen as the opposite of how it is presented in 1 Corinthians 13. The original intended audience for 1 Corinthians 13 were the Corinthians. The
author uses paralipsis to show the Corinthians that their conduct had, in many respects, been a contrast to the behavior of love shown in 1 Corinthians
13. Nowadays, 1 Corinthians 13 is well–known among Christians and non–Christians. "Love is patient, love is kind" can be seen in many song lyrics
and wedding vows. It is also taught in church to encourage Christians to live with a loving heart. 1 Corinthians 13 is one of the most well–known bible

2. Tess, a spiritual (ized) woman
Neither the narrator nor Angel criticizes her murder of Alec. Although she is no more a virgin
than being guilty, those men draw close to her. In this time, masculine point of view does not
allow the female character Tess to treat herself like a flesh–and–blood woman. As a result of that,
the author fails to describe realistically the heroine.
The narrator vindicates Tess, treating the murder case as one by the woman done to the man
full of lust. Her mentality is shown in terms of Christianity and the Bible, or, it can be expressed,
in other words, as "divinity" or "dignity." Tess is true to Angelʼs love till her last moment, and the
narrator expresses her pure love to Angel, comparing it to the attitude shown in the Bible:

love nothing. If anyone is to ask her what she wants to do, she will always reply "nothing". This is best exemplified by her dialogue extracted from the
film –
"Now I have only one thing left to do: nothing." Sound has a presence of nothingness. And we realize this in the several scenes of Julie swimming in
the pool. We can tell that she uses the recurrent plunges into water to dip into the state of nothingness, where she will just submerge herself totally like
she is drowning herself (Coates, 1996). The reverse of nothingness is, of course, love. In the final sequence, where Julie finally comprehends her
purpose in living on, the music Patrice and Julie has composed is played, and it features a solo soprano singing Saint Paul's 1 Corinthians 13 in Greek.
It says in this passage that – "If I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing."
We can tell therefore, that Kieslowski challenges these two emotion extremes, linking them at the same time by showing their interdependence, while
swinging Julie from one end of her emotional rollercoaster to another. Liberty
But Bleu's relationship to the concept of liberty is deeply ironic here, since Kieslowski, as we shall see, regards absolute freedom and love as opposites.
Julie's awakening comes

The Holy Gift : The Spiritual Gifts Of The Holy Spirit
"GIFT–GIVING"
GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
INTRODUCTION
The Holy Spirit, the third person of God, is the dynamic agent that both leads us toward Christ and transforms us through and in him. Upon a believer's
conversion and regeneration , the Holy Spirit continues to work; the Spirit dwells actively in Christians doing many facets of work like empowering,
illumining, teaching, reproving, interceding, sanctifying, and bestowing gifts . Often the overlooked work of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual gifts he
entrusts to believers are important for the growth of both the believer and Christ's bride, the church. God's desire is for us to be informed about the gifts
his Spirit gives (1 Corinthians 12:1), and it is our obligation and should be our desire to understand the giving of, the exercise of and the purpose in
spiritual gifts. This paper endeavors to present a synopsis of this subject.
GIFTS DEFINED
Spiritual gifts should loosely be defined as "God–given" abilities supplied by the Holy Spirit as prescribed and purposed by the Father (Acts 2:38). 1
Corinthians 12:7 assures believers: "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy
Spirit] for the common good", and James 1:17 encourages Christians: "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above;". Christians
therefore have been bestowed with special, supernatural, God–ordained and Holy Spirit supplied abilities (gifts) at their conversion that are intended to
be used for the work of the Lord in producing fruit (John 5:16). Identifying a believer's God–given gifts is subsequent for their continued growth and
effectiveness in Christ.
GIFTS IDENTIFIED
Key passages that identify spiritual gifts are Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. The following list is likely not exhaustive, but is
representative of many gifts the Holy Spirit has revealed in the Word. Romans 12 speaks about exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy, prophecy,
service, and teaching. 1 Corinthians addresses administration, apostleship, discernment, faith, healing, helping, knowledge, miracles, prophecy,
teaching, tongues, interpretation, and wisdom. Ephesians 4 discusses apostleship, evangelism, pastoring,

Resurrection Of Jesus Christ Research Paper
The resurrection of Jesus Christ
I do believe they was an resurrection of Jesus Christ, they are several scripture of the Bible that reveal the resurrection of Jesus Christ and these
scripture are Matthew 28:1–20; Mark 16:1–20; Luke 24:1–53; and John 20:1–21:25. Also the resurrection was taken place in the book Acts (Acts 1:1–
11). From these passages you can gain several substantiations that Jesus Christ was resurrect from the death. First is the melodramatic change in the
disciples. They went from a group of men frightened and in hiding to strong, courageous witnesses sharing the gospel throughout the world. The
apostle Paul. What changed him from being a persecutor of the church into an apostle for the church? It was when the risen Christ appeared to him on
the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1–6). A third convincing proof is the empty tomb. If Christ were not raised, then where is His body? The disciples and
others saw the tomb where He was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A key passage on Christ's resurrection is 1 Corinthians 15. In this chapter, the apostle Paul explains why it is crucial to understand and believe in
Christ's resurrection. The resurrection is important for the following reasons: 1) If Christ was not raised from the dead, believers will not be either (1
Corinthians 15:12–15). 2) If Christ was not raised from the dead, His sacrifice for sin was not sufficient (1 Corinthians 15:16–19). Jesus' resurrection
proved that His death was accepted by God as the atonement for our sins. If He had simply died and stayed dead, that would indicate His sacrifice was
not sufficient. As a result, believers would not be forgiven for their sins, and they would remain dead after they die (1 Corinthians 15:16–19). There
would be no such thing as eternal life (John 3:16). "But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep" (1

Explain Why My Religion Does Not Control Me
My religion does not control me. The authors E.L. Doctorow, Rushdie, and Paul who wrote in part of Corinthian all have written that debate against one
another. Doctorow is an American author is well known for historical writing and wrote about how America is not full of infidels. Rushdie is an atheist
who had a bounty on his head from the Islamic state for years; he is known for his writing against religion. Paul wrote the first epistle of Corinthian,
which was directed towards the, "the church of God," in Corinth, Greece; he wrote about how love has do with the individual not God. These authors
contradict each other's claim: Doctorow disproves Rushdie's claim with religion causes freedom to restricted and people being close– mined; ... Show

Doctorow claims the people of the United States want religion because it is an escape from society's issues. In addition, the word infidels' means one
who doubts or rejects central trends of one's religion, but this word is used more towards Christianity and Islam. However, the United States is made of
many different religions that people look over, such as: The Shakers, Swendenborgians, and Adventists. Due to the religious freedom in America the
nation is filled with a variety of praying, singing and studying that are practiced by millions. Because of these varieties, many religions developed in the
U.S such as: Mormonism, Christian Science and Native American Anthropomorphism. It's not about the United States being full of infidels it's about
how the United States decided to keep religion and politics separate. A lot of what Doctorow mentions goes against what Rushdie ideas of religion are.
Rushdie mentions in a sarcastic way that victors of war can't be close minded because they have God on their side. Basically, saying that those who
believe in God tend to be close minded. In addition, Rushdie things freedom is restricted by religious rule. Doctorow argues that a country that has
freedom of religion gives people the freedom to believe and not believe in anything they want; without the pressure of religious control. On the other
hand, having freedom of religion in a country allows people to have an open– mind by accepting

How Did Paul Become An Apostle
Paul did not become an apostle in the same manner as did the rest of the apostles. He is first encountered as Saul at the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7.
Acts 8:3 says, "But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house; and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison."
Acts 9, however, tells of his dramatic conversion after seeing Jesus while on the road to Damascus. In Acts 9:15, the Lord said to Ananias regarding
Saul, "He is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel." Acts 22:14–15 records that the Lord,
speaking through Ananias said to Paul, "The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear an
utterance from His mouth. For you will be a witness for Him to all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1 Corinthians 15:9 he wrote, "For I am the least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God." He
went on to express his thankfulness in v. 10: "For by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even
more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me." He further exhibits his humility in 2 Corinthians 3:5: "Not that we are adequate in
ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.
Probably the greatest proof of Paul's apostleship and authority is found in 2 Peter 3:15–16. There Peter refers to Paul as "our beloved brother." He states
that Paul wrote "according to the wisdom given

  • 1. Corinthians 13 Vs 1-10 Analysis Have you ever had God pull on your heart so much that you get up at 12:17 to get a good read of scripture well on this wonderful night in june I got that call. I have been studying 1 corinthians 13 as I have felt God tug on my heart to do a public speaking competition using this chapter. I can tell you as the past couple months have gone by I have read this chapter over and over and receive different things each time. Well I feel lead to write, write about what I'm reading and studying. After all what's the point of studying the material if i'm not going to apply and share it. Well tonight I want to break down a couple verses and do that night by night. Tonight I want to dig into versus 1–3 " If i speak in the tongues of men and of angles, ... It may have seemed like I just restated the versus and threw in an example well this versus cant get too much straight forward. Versus two " And if i have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." basically it's a continuation of verses 1 claiming you can have every power in the world and still be nothing but with the help of a little love you can be a great thing so let's move to versus 3 "If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I am nothing." still is a continuation of versus 1 and 2 but her it states you can do all the actions and still those actions would mean nothing without love. • 5. The Importance Of The Gospel To Paul the gospel is not just a message of salvation. To him it has life changing power. Through many of Paul's letters he has highlighted the importance of the gospel. Using Romans, Galatians, and Corinthians, Paul has shown us that the gospel (a.k.a. Good News) is all centered around Jesus. The gospel that Paul preached in Romans states that "the Good News is about his Son" (Romans 1:3). The gospel is part of the trinity (1:2–3), and it is foretold in the scriptures. Paul states this in Romans 1:2 "God promised this Good News long ago...." Written for everyone, Jews and Gentiles alike. His gospel is a calling to everyone, reminding us that we have the authority to tell "what God has done...." Calling everyone to salvation, service, and a change in lifestyle to live like a Christian. He also preached that Christians need to live a life full of obedience. The gospel reveals that the Good News is the "Power of God at work, saving who believes..." (1:16–17). Paul is able to have boldness because of the power of the message itself. Paul teaches us in the first two chapters of his letter that his gospel is Christ Crucified. He reveals that God is the source of his gospel (1:11–12). Instead of being taught a law–free gospel as others have been. God revealed the gospel to him, showing that the gospel does not consist of the old Jewish laws. His gospel taught us that through faith we can receive the Holy Spirit. Then the Holy Spirit is able to work miracles because of our belief. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Corinthians 1 Colossian Religion The Church We teach that all who place their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately placed by the Holy Spirit into one united spiritual Body, the church (1 Corinthians 12:12–13), the bride of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:23–32; Revelation 19:7–8), of which Christ is the Head (Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; Colossians 1:18). We teach that the formation of the church, the Body of Christ, began on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1–21, 38–47) and will be completed at the coming of Christ for His own at the rapture (1 Corinthians 15:51–52; 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18). We teach that the church is thus a unique spiritual organism designed by Christ, made up of all born–again believers in this present age (Ephesians 2:11–3:6). The church is distinct from Israel (1 Corinthians 10:32), a mystery not revealed until this age (Ephesians 3:1–6; 5:32). We teach that the establishment and continuity of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:23, 27; 20:17, 28; Galatians 1:2; Philippians 1:1; 1 Thessalonians 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:1) and that the members of the one spiritual Body are directed to associate themselves together in local assemblies (1 Corinthians 11:18–20; Hebrews 10:25). Critical Analysis Of Tess Of The DUrbervilles Tess of the D'Urbervilles: A Critical Analysis "If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal." This is the first verse in 1 Corinthians 13, which starts the passage off talking about how important love is. In 1891, Thomas Hardy published his book, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, in newspaper form and published it in book form in 1892. Hardy was born on June 2, 1840. With his family, he lived in Dorset, England. In fact, the Dorset scenery is said to have inspired his novel. Because of the biblical allusions in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, it reveals that the way characters reacted and behaved did not follow the examples set in 1 Corinthians 13, such as love, justice and judgment In Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Tess is soon involved in something that goes against her will: Alec rapes her. In her society, this kind of situation meant that no man would have wanted her. Unfortunately, it did not matter if she had been in the wrong place at the wrong time or had even picked an immoral career. With strict rules and social customs, she would have had to encounter a really forgiving person if she had any chance at marriage. When something tragic happens to people, they usually go talk to someone that will comfort them and tell them that everything is going to be okay. However, Tess's mom did not exactly show that attitude towards her daughter. She would disturb her in saying things like, "Why did you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. What We Talk About Love And 1 Corinthians What is love?" People experience love in different ways. Everyone experiences love and people give. Love is the one thing that can overcome so many of the difficult times that we are faced with in life. It can even turn all of the ugliness in the world into the most beautiful portrait we could ever have the pleasure to behold. In What We Talk about When Talk about Love, characters experience love in different aspects and in 1 Corinthians 13 explains that without love everything is nothing. This essay will argue what is love and it will compare portrayal of love in What We Talk about When Talk about Love and 1 Corinthians 13. Also this supports thesis statement because if you gave everything away to other and didn't love others you gain nothing. This defines what love is because without love you don't gain anything. What We Talk About When We Talk About Love illustrates a good definition what love is. For example, in paragraph 57 it says "physical love, that impulse that drives you to someone special, as well as love of the other person's being, his or her essence, as it were". Short Essay on Pneumatology: Spiritual Gifts Joshua Lytle THEO201_B24_201120 Short Essay #3 Short Essay on Pneumatology: Spiritual Gifts Spiritual gifts are capacities given to believers in Christ or "useful functions for God" in spiritual service. The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23) is produced in believers by the Spirit to sanctify them through the production of His character. Spiritual gifts are abilities used in service to God while spiritual fruit involves the character of Christians. The Fruit of the Spirit, produced only by the indwelling of the Spirit, exhibits the spiritual maturity of believers. • 17. 1 Corinthians 13 Research Paper One of the most common things that is celebrated is love. We have marriage ceremonies centered around our love for our partner; we have special days such as Valentine's Day to show our appreciation for others; and we have songs about our loved ones. Almost all of the things we do are ways for humans to dedicate their life to love. In the New International Version of the Bible love is stated about five hundred and fifty times. One of the most memorable references of love in the Bible is one that is commonly read at sacred marriage ceremonies and is frequently quoted in captions on social media. The verse mentioned is 1 Corinthians 13. In verses one through three of 1 Corinthians, it is said that without love we are worthless. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nash said that "the very qualities of love that he [Paul] enumerated stood in clear contrast to their [Corinthians] own behavior" (Nash 386). This contrast can be true to this day as well with most people finding language and knowledge more important than love. Nash also believes that love is a way not a gift and "the way of love transcends the pursuit of individual fulfillment and leads to true community" (Nash 386). The main point that Nash was trying to get across what that "Paul showed a preference for verbs rather than adjectives" in order to enumerate "the point that love is not simply a feeling; it is a lifestyle, love involves action" which "is defined by the cross of Christ" (Nash 386). The purpose of 1 Corinthians is for the audience to take action with God because of the love the audience has for him. The audience is meant to be moved emotionally through love so they can act upon that love for the better of the community. Love is the way to become fulfilled and can be done perfectly through ... • 19. Taking a Look at the Pauline Epistles The Pauline epistles are very crucial to the understanding of how a church and a Christian should act. Throughout all the letters, different subjects have been touched creating almost a guide of "how to's". The farewell is especially important as noted in Second Corinthians 13 explains the depth of God's love to the people and the wrath of doubtfulness. "since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking though me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you" (13:3). With corrections in the beginning of the letter, or a defense towards Paul's teachings, shows the continuation of the struggle of Corinth, yet they were doing better as spoken by Titus. Paul's final request towards the people of Corinth is found in his second letter (2 Corinthians). The last chapter however is similarly a conclusion, or overview of the letter. Although there are some differences throughout the translations, Paul's final message/warning is evident and clear. The passage is split up into two or three sections, depending on the translation used. Within the New King James Version (NKJ), the breakdown is evident by how the paragraphs are structured to set apart main ideas. Verses 1–4 are thought of as the reminder of what's Paul's message entailed. No matter the translation Paul quotes Deuteronomy 19:15, "One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established" (NKJ; 2 ... • 21. Agape Love Analysis Paul states at the end of chapter 13, "the greatest of these is love". Love is a common word used in modern day society through many types of expressions. It may describe the emotion towards an object of affection, or it may be used as an over dramatization of a liking one takes to a certain type of food per–say. Its used to describe feelings toward a sexual relationship, or feelings towards family member, or friends. In the English language, there is an almost limitless amount of uses for that one little word. Yet, in the time of this letter love as agape love was not a common terminology for what Paul was expressing. Therefore this paper plans to touch on what exactly it means when a Roman Jewish man, growing up and proclaiming the Gospel to a Hellenistic society in 57 AD claims that "the greatest of these(faith, hope, love) ...is love". Background of the Passage Paul sent the letter to the Roman city of Corinth, a city known for its immorality. Though they had many gods and goddesses, one of the main temples was dedicated to the goddess of love, Aphrodite, which in her temple had hundreds of temple prostitutes (pg. 5, Kistemaker). Along with this temple, there were many other temples and religious centers, even Jewish synagogues, which were dispersed throughout Corinth (pg. 3, Fee). It was a very diverse city filled with Jews, Greeks, slaves, free, prostitutes, ex–soldiers, etc. The church in Corinth was started by Paul on his second missionary trip around 51–52 AD, ... • 23. 1 Corinthians 11-14 Analysis In the text, 1 Corinthians 11–14, there are numerous problems Paul addresses regarding the church in Corinth. The first, in chapter 11, has to do with whether or not women should wear head coverings. Secondly, Paul also provides instructions regarding how the Lord's Supper should be treated, for it seems it was being done in an "unworthy manner" at the church in Corinth. In chapter 14 Paul gives specific instructions as to what function prophecy and speaking in tongues should serve in the church. Lastly, at the end of chapter 14, Paul instructs the Corinthians to worship in a manner that is orderly. Furthermore, sandwiched in between these critiques and instructions chapters 12 and 13 are found. At first glance the topics of chapters 12 and 13 might seem unrelated to the critique that is taking place, however at a closer look it appears their placement was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned earlier, these chapters can seem like a random placement within the context. However, at a closer look it appears these chapters were not a random thought, but intentionally placed. In chapter 12, Paul discusses spiritual gifts. Through this information on spiritual gifts he goes on to explain how the members of the church are like a body. Each member is different, but each plays a crucial part in order for the body to function properly. This example seems quite appropriate in light of all the divisions the church was experiencing. Chapter 12 ends with Paul saying, "And I will show you still a more excellent way," referring to love. He then addresses this subject in the following chapter. Paul emphasizes that everything addressed, such as prophecy, speaking in tongues, and knowledge will pass away, but love remains. If the Corinthians put into practice the characteristics of love that Paul gives, their problems would likely lesson or subside. Biblical Worldview Essay {I} SECTION ONE: {Essential Doctrine} (A)THE HOLY SCRIPTURES 1] We teach that the Bible is God's divinely inspired written supernatural revelation of Himself and His ways and purposes in relation to His elect children and mankind in his current Adamic condition of sin and depravity in need of redeemption. Therefore the inspired (i.e. the out breathed word of Jehovah) was given to His chosen servants, in times past, in a progressive manner, by various methods direct communication, visions and dreams etc (Heb.1:1–2 with Numbers 12:8, Genesis 15:1; Matthew 1:20). • 27. God 's A Perfect Law Of Liberty Further evidence can be found throughout the Bible to support that the "perfect" is referring to the New Testament. In James 1:25, God's word is referred to as the "perfect law of liberty". The New Testament contains "all things that pertain to life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3), which shows that it is perfect and complete. God's word is capable of making man "complete" or "perfect" (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Another context that is very similar to 1 Corinthians 13:8–13 is Ephesians 4:7–16, which helps demonstrate this even more clearly. This passage is clearly referring to spiritual gifts, as is seen in verses seven and eight. Verse eleven specifies what the gifts were, and verse twelve shows the purpose of those gifts (to help guide the early church). In verse thirteen, Paul reveals that these gifts were a temporary measure, and would last "till we all come to unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the son of God" or, until the completion of the New Testament! The revelation and completion of the New Testament fits into this context just as it does in 1 Corinthians 13:8–13. Earlier, it was noted that the method by which spiritual gifts were transferred necessitated that it would end. It also provides a relatively accurate timeline of the end of spiritual gifts. Because the apostles were the only ones who could transfer miraculous powers, the number of individuals that possessed these gifts would begin to decrease after the all apostles died until there were none left. ... • 29. God Reflection I love to attend this small men's bible study at this little diner just down the road from where I live. It astounds me that despite the diverse framework of backgrounds and beliefs, all the men in this group share similar struggles with the flesh. My eagerness to have the perfect life with a magnificent God–Mate and children was being held back by my innate nature of being naturally flawed. Let me reconfigure the past week with you. Closing up last week, I started speaking to a fellow classmate of mine who seems simply divine. She loves God, loves the medical field, is adventurous, and is beautiful. Check, check, check, and double check. I genuinely contemplated the thought, "She is my bride to be, God you are so good, I am just humbled by your blessing in my life, and all thanks be to you." Yet as the week went on, I realized that I never consoled God in on this matter. So I asked God, "Is she the one?" He said, "No, you are not ready?" This conversation went without end for three days after which on the first day God said to take a three–day sabbatical from speaking to her or looking at anything that she was doing, just worship in the presence of the Lord. This city was made up of many different people with very different ideas concerning God, cults, and moral depravity. While in Corinth, Paul was approached by a woman named Chloe who described to him the misdeeds of dissention, immorality and wrong doing in the city. Paul tried to show his followers that it was safe to eat with a clear conscience by eating meat himself. Through this lesson Paul was also trying to teach that "love was more important than freedom (8:1–6) and that "knowledge can make us arrogant, but love edifies" (Krell, 1995). With these sayings Paul was giving permission for people to put their pride aside, remember that there is no such thing as idols and that there is only one true and loving God" (Krell, 1995). 9. • 33. Love, And Friendships True friendship can be defined as the relationship between two or more friends that contains mutual trust and support. Ordinarily, a friend is someone who knows a person almost better than his or her own self. Friendships are not about keeping secrets from one another, judgement, or competition; they are not one–sided or jealous. The ability of acting as one's true self without fear of what others may presume is true friendship. Trust, happiness, care for one another, and loving as though a person is part of his or her own family are the structural beginnings of friendships. In the past, I had had several friendships come and go. Through these experiences, I have learned how to maintain a real, healthy relationship with friends. One outstanding example of the true meaning of friendship is found in the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13: 4–7; it reads, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self–seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (2.2.37–39). After Romeo slaughters Tybalt, Juliet's cousin and friend, Juliet shows that her love "doesn't keep a record / of wrongs that others do" (1 Cor 13:5) when she says,"Come cords–come, nurse. I'll to my wedding bed, And death, not Romeo take my maidenhead." (3.3.149–150). By saying this, Juliet shows the strength of the love between herself and Romeo by demonstrating that not even a murder of a family member could separate their passionate bond. Although Romeo and Juliet show the most examples of true love throughout the drama, other prominent characters also show love that abides by the guidelines in 1 Corinthians 13. Benvolio, Romeo's good friend and cousin, provides one example of a character besides Romeo and Juliet who embodies the Christian definition of love. For example, Benvolio shows his that his love for Romeo "is always supportive, / loyal, hopeful, / and trusting" (1 Cor 13:7) when Romeo sheds tears over the loss of his beloved Rosaline, by telling him to "examine other beauties" and exclaiming to him that "[He will] pay that doctrine or else die in ... • 37. Section Of 1 Corinthians 12-13 In The Harpercollins Study... The first section of the note on 1 Corinthians 12:12–13 in the HarperCollins Study Bible leads the reader to contemplate the issue of unity in the body of Christ, the lack of which is arguably the origin of most, if not all of the issues facing the Corinthian church. The Christians in Corinth were challenged with several internal problems, many of which could have been solved by the members seeking unity in their diversity. Paul introduces the idea that the church should function as the body of Christ, valuing the abilities and roles that God chose for each member. The first part of the note states, "Like certain other ancient writers, Paul regards the human body as illustrating the point that unity and diversity are not incompatible, applying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Corinthians had a way of self–praise and boasting over their superior actions. They would speak in tongues and prophecy in public "not to benefit others who are in attendance but, in Paul's view, simply to elevate themselves in the eyes of others" (Bart Ehrman, A Brief Introduction to the New Testament, p. 228). In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul lists the variety of gifts that various members of the church possess, saying that the Spirit has assigned each gift to each individual. Paul wants the Corinthians to understand that God has given the individuals in the community distinctive roles and gifts that, when used appropriately, better the church as a whole. To emphasize the importance of unity in the church, Paul writes, "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ" (1 Cor 12:12). Paul shows how each member of the church has imperative value, just as each part of the body is essential for it to work properly. The Corinthians' problem of boasting would fade away as soon as they acknowledge that there is value in the diversity of the members of the church. God placed each person in the role that He intends for them to fill and everyone must recognize His placement. Greater than all other gifts is the gift of love. Love is crucial because it builds up the community and strengthens every believer, regardless of their differences. Paul stresses that the most excellent gift is love, writing "If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing" (1 Cor ... • 39. 1 Corinthians 13: 8-13 Outline Main Idea and Outline In 1 Corinthians 13:8–13, Paul writes to make clear that love is the most excellent way, because it eternally endures. In extolling the superiority of love, Paul compares love with several coveted spiritual gifts, prophecy, words of knowledge, and tongues, and demonstrates that the gifts listed pale in comparison to love, because the gifts are incomplete and temporary, while love is both perfect and eternal. An outline of this passage of Scripture follows: I. In comparison to spiritual gifts, love is temporally superior because it is eternal. (13:8) A. Love is superior to prophecy, which will pass away. B. Love is superior to tongues, which will cease. C. Love is superior to knowledge which will pass away. II. Spiritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, Paul tells the Corinthians that the one Spirit has given different gifts to the various members of the body. After focusing on the interdependence of the members of the body, Paul then abruptly transitions to discuss a more excellent way in chapter 13, which has given many scholars rise to refer to this chapter as a digression or interpolation. However, chapter 13 is instead a necessary link in the flow Paul's argument from chapter 12 to 14. After discussing spiritual gifts in chapter 12, Paul, in essence, challenges the Corinthians in chapter 13 by asking them: Is love demonstrated in the exercise of your gifts? Rather than being a hymn in praise of love, chapter 13 is Paul's subtle call to the Corinthians to pursue love and thereby address the real problem in their church. After firmly establishing the importance of love in every aspect of the Christian's life (including worship), Paul then returns to his discussion of the spiritual gifts in chapter 14, with the unspoken assumption that even the exercise of spiritual gifts must be grounded in ... • 41. Denominationalism: The Practice Of Miracles There are many erroneous doctrines and practices in denominationalism. One that is very popular is the practice of miracles. From self–proclaimed prophets, to "faith healers", to people who claim to speak in tongues, the practice of "miracles" is widespread in modern religion. It is easy to understand why such things would be so wildly popular. Man has always had a fascination with that which is incredible, amazing, and "impossible to explain". However, when it comes to anything in religion, it does not matter what we like or what we feel is best; God's word is the only thing that matters because it is the only authority in religion. In light of this, it is important to establish to Biblical truth on the matter of miracles. One passage that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While no clear correlation can be drawn between Christ and spiritual gifts, the relation between spiritual gifts and the revelation of the New Testament is clearly seen. The gifts of prophecy and miraculous knowledge were a partial, incomplete measure of what is found in the New Testament. Spiritual gifts (such as tongues, prophecy, and miraculous knowledge) were the means by which God revealed His will in the first century, but these things were just a partial measure. God's full, complete revelation is the New Testament. The early church was guided with the help of these spiritual gifts, but today the church is guided solely by God's word! The New Testament accomplishes everything that spiritual gifts did, and more. Biblical View Of 1 Corinthians 11-13 Biblical View of 1 Corinthians 11:11–12; 1 Corinthians 13:1–13; and, 2 Corinthians 6:2–4 The book of Corinthians was written by Paul to bring clarity to the, at the time, judgmental church. The Corinthian church was known for bashing others for sexual immorality, and not showing the love that Jesus Christ shared. Even Jesus left messages to the people that Christians will be identified by their love, which is one of the fruits of His spirit. This is still an issue today in the church, because as a whole, they have failed to embrace the fruits of the spirit when immorality is present. Therefore, Paul wrote the books of Corinthians to address the heart of Jesus Christ, so that the people would not stray. In addition, Paul addresses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important that people allow God to fix what is broken in the world, because our ways are not the wisdom of God as times. Meaning, we can take judgmental matters into our own hands, and a precious soul could be lost. God is love, peace, compassion, and patience. Therefore, to enforce what we consider as judgment may not be the person needs to live a fulfilling life in God. However, Paul was entailing that God was grieved by how his people were being handled by the Corinthian church, which called down repentance. Conclusion The Corinthian church is a great example of how we should always consult God on how to be disciples of God. Also, this chapter gives great details on how God would want us to handle each other, even if we feel that they are not living according to God's standard. In addition, God's love covers "And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8). The Corinthian church has several serious problems that they either ignore or simply think their sin is ok. Paul holds them accountable in all that they are doing and reprimands them. He illustrates that he will either come to them with a gentle spirit or the rod of discipline. One of the topics discussed is idol meat. But what's especially interesting is that the Corinthians brought it up first rather than Paul. This is actually a very daunting task to accomplish for leaders in the church when they are doing so many different activities throughout the week that is also expected of them. If you are going to bridge the gap between ancient text and today with an honest effort Graves brings up the point that it might be better not to achieve the gap all at once. In hopes of the devil not being able to disrupt or hear our prayers. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit blesses someone with his presence after they have been saved. It is a very emotional experience in which the person 'feels' the presence of the Holy Spirit. A biblical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is in second chapter of Acts where the disciples were sitting together in the upper room and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Speaking in tongues is one of the things that happens when the Holy Spirit has baptizes us; it shows the presence of God is with the person. Speaking in tongues is not a necessary sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in my opinion, although it did happened to the disciples when they got baptized with the Holy Spirit. The gift of speaking in tongues does not really mean that the Holy Spirit baptizes one. It truly is one of the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives, but it is not the only gift that appears once someone has been baptized. I believe that the "speaking in tongues" is valid still today because the bible speaks on it and doesn't state that we shouldn't speak in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:5 states, "I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than who speaks with tongues..." There was a boy in my 6th grade class who was super handsome. He was so handsome that almost every class in my grade had at least one or two girls who had crush on him. Almost every day during break time, there were girls hanging out outside of our classroom. They just came to watch him. When it was Christmas, his desk drawer would be filled with Christmas cards from girls. Not to mention his birthday. I still remember his birthday. If this person doesn't make me happy, if this person doesn't meet my expectation, then I am going to give him or her a hard time. I want myself to be the center of this person's world. This is not love, this is selfishness. Then do we have true love, the perfect love? Yes, we do. It has been mentioned in the Bible. Here's what the Bible says about true love: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self–seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Harrison (p. 275) summarizes the message of the Epistle in these words: The greatest single overall emphasis seems to be on the unity of the local church as the body of Christ, which is brought out not only in connection with the discussion of the groups (i.e.; the factions within the church), but also in relation to the Lord's Supper and spiritual gifts. A corollary is the sanctity of the church as members of Christ, both corporately and individually, (note, especially, such passages as 1 Cor. 3:16–17 and 6:15–20.) We may add, it is in this Epistle that the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul most eloquently sets forth the supremacy of love as "the most excellent way," which the Christian is called to follow (1 Cor. 12:31b–13:13 The Mystery Surrounding the Missing Letters The References to Two Other Letters Sometime after his initial visit to Corinth, probably while he was ministering in Ephesus, Paul wrote a letter to the church, a letter to which he alludes in 1 Cor. 5:9, "I wrote to you in my epistle not to have any company with fornicators." As D. Guthrie points out (p. 426), the gist of the contents of that previous letter may be inferred from 1 Cor. 5:9–13. The Books Of Matthew And 1 Corinthians Hermeneutical – Matthew and 1 Corinthians The books of Matthew and 1 Corinthians are mainly focused around love and what that is supposed to look like through Christ. Starting with Matthew, it begins by walking us through the birth of Jesus and all of the events that took place during and after. It also talks about his baptism and specifically that John the baptist was who performed it. After everything about Jesus' early life is introduced, it jumps straight into his preaching. Chapter four of Matthew is where it really begins to talk about Jesus' work. Not only does it introduce us to his preaching styles, but it also quickly introduces Satin who seems to follow Jesus around for a while attempting to cause problems. Matthew chapter four tells you right off the bat what is about to take place. The first verse says, "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil."(NIV Matthew 4:1). At this point, Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights, and the first temptation form the devil was food. He says, "...If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."(NIV Matthew 4:3). Jesus of course rejects his temptation and the many more that followed. After these events took place, Jesus leaves to begin his preaching. In doing so, he also chooses his disciples while walking along the Sea of Galilee. • 59. Innate Sin of Selfishness In the Confessions and the First Letter to the Corinthians, the respective authors delve into the nature of sin and prescribe solutions to problem of evil so that Christians can understand the existence of evil. Human nature defined by both Paul and Augustine is the pattern drawn from actions that humans without a stimulus. For Paul, the importance of love, and condemnation of the idea that all is permitted reveal his view of human nature. Augustine's analysis of infancy and of his own sexual urges leads to a similar view of human nature. Both Paul and Augustine view the nature of humans as being selfish while striving towards satisfying one's own physical needs. Paul rebukes the Corinthians based on rumors that they have interpreted his message as all actions are permitted. Paul quotes the Corinthians saying, " "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food"–and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality" (1 Corinthians 6:12–13). The conclusion to draw from Paul's rebuttal is that the default actions that the Corinthians took after Paul left were those that were to satisfy their physical needs. Paul mentions that gluttony has struck the Corinthians and that gluttony in its very nature results in a physical satisfaction of being full. Paul urges in 1 Corinthians 14:39–40 that speaking in tongues should not be forbidden, and be done in order. Brand, Draper and England add in their commentary, "There is no compelling reason to believe that 'ecstatic utterance' is the same thing as the Biblical gift of tongues." (1606). There exists no restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18–19), however should not be used in public places without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:28. This would compromise the edifying design for unbelievers. Much controversy has been raised over 1 Corinthians 13 and what is said to be "valid". Those negating the validity of speaking in tongues typically use 1 Corinthians 13:8–10 as the basis for their argument. However, the verse is comparing eternal with temporal things. This is Paul's way of emphasizing peace in abiding things (like faith, hope and love) versus division for the sake of the tongues controversy to the church (Smith). Verse 10 also brings about the discussion of what Paul refers to as "perfect". Even though, those belonging to the Negative School argue "that which is perfect" is to be the full canon of the Bible, there is nothing that suggests that the Holy Spirit will stop moving through this gift. • 69. Analysis of the Film Bleu: Relevance of Bleu To France Themes Love or nothing In Bleu, the director makes use of Julie's grief to plunge her into a state of nothingness. She wants to feel nothing, remember nothing, do nothing, and love nothing. If anyone is to ask her what she wants to do, she will always reply "nothing". This is best exemplified by her dialogue extracted from the film – "Now I have only one thing left to do: nothing." Sound has a presence of nothingness. And we realize this in the several scenes of Julie swimming in the pool. We can tell that she uses the recurrent plunges into water to dip into the state of nothingness, where she will just submerge herself totally like she is drowning herself (Coates, 1996). The reverse of nothingness is, of course, love. In the final sequence, where Julie finally comprehends her purpose in living on, the music Patrice and Julie has composed is played, and it features a solo soprano singing Saint Paul's 1 Corinthians 13 in Greek. It says in this passage that – "If I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing." We can tell therefore, that Kieslowski challenges these two emotion extremes, linking them at the same time by showing their interdependence, while swinging Julie from one end of her emotional rollercoaster to another. Liberty But Bleu's relationship to the concept of liberty is deeply ironic here, since Kieslowski, as we shall see, regards absolute freedom and love as opposites. Julie's awakening comes ... The Holy Gift : The Spiritual Gifts Of The Holy Spirit "GIFT–GIVING" GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT INTRODUCTION The Holy Spirit, the third person of God, is the dynamic agent that both leads us toward Christ and transforms us through and in him. Upon a believer's conversion and regeneration , the Holy Spirit continues to work; the Spirit dwells actively in Christians doing many facets of work like empowering, illumining, teaching, reproving, interceding, sanctifying, and bestowing gifts . Often the overlooked work of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual gifts he entrusts to believers are important for the growth of both the believer and Christ's bride, the church. God's desire is for us to be informed about the gifts his Spirit gives (1 Corinthians 12:1), and it is our obligation and should be our desire to understand the giving of, the exercise of and the purpose in spiritual gifts. This paper endeavors to present a synopsis of this subject. GIFTS DEFINED Spiritual gifts should loosely be defined as "God–given" abilities supplied by the Holy Spirit as prescribed and purposed by the Father (Acts 2:38). 1 Corinthians 12:7 assures believers: "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good", and James 1:17 encourages Christians: "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above;". Christians therefore have been bestowed with special, supernatural, God–ordained and Holy Spirit supplied abilities (gifts) at their conversion that are intended to be used for the work of the Lord in producing fruit (John 5:16). Identifying a believer's God–given gifts is subsequent for their continued growth and effectiveness in Christ. GIFTS IDENTIFIED Key passages that identify spiritual gifts are Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. The following list is likely not exhaustive, but is representative of many gifts the Holy Spirit has revealed in the Word. Romans 12 speaks about exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy, prophecy, service, and teaching. 1 Corinthians addresses administration, apostleship, discernment, faith, healing, helping, knowledge, miracles, prophecy, teaching, tongues, interpretation, and wisdom. Ephesians 4 discusses apostleship, evangelism, pastoring, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Resurrection Of Jesus Christ Research Paper The resurrection of Jesus Christ I do believe they was an resurrection of Jesus Christ, they are several scripture of the Bible that reveal the resurrection of Jesus Christ and these scripture are Matthew 28:1–20; Mark 16:1–20; Luke 24:1–53; and John 20:1–21:25. Also the resurrection was taken place in the book Acts (Acts 1:1– 11). From these passages you can gain several substantiations that Jesus Christ was resurrect from the death. First is the melodramatic change in the disciples. They went from a group of men frightened and in hiding to strong, courageous witnesses sharing the gospel throughout the world. The apostle Paul. What changed him from being a persecutor of the church into an apostle for the church? It was when the risen Christ appeared to him on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1–6). A third convincing proof is the empty tomb. If Christ were not raised, then where is His body? The disciples and others saw the tomb where He was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A key passage on Christ's resurrection is 1 Corinthians 15. In this chapter, the apostle Paul explains why it is crucial to understand and believe in Christ's resurrection. The resurrection is important for the following reasons: 1) If Christ was not raised from the dead, believers will not be either (1 Corinthians 15:12–15). 2) If Christ was not raised from the dead, His sacrifice for sin was not sufficient (1 Corinthians 15:16–19). Jesus' resurrection proved that His death was accepted by God as the atonement for our sins. If He had simply died and stayed dead, that would indicate His sacrifice was not sufficient. As a result, believers would not be forgiven for their sins, and they would remain dead after they die (1 Corinthians 15:16–19). There would be no such thing as eternal life (John 3:16). "But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep" (1 Corinthians 15:20 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Explain Why My Religion Does Not Control Me My religion does not control me. The authors E.L. Doctorow, Rushdie, and Paul who wrote in part of Corinthian all have written that debate against one another. Doctorow is an American author is well known for historical writing and wrote about how America is not full of infidels. Rushdie is an atheist who had a bounty on his head from the Islamic state for years; he is known for his writing against religion. Paul wrote the first epistle of Corinthian, which was directed towards the, "the church of God," in Corinth, Greece; he wrote about how love has do with the individual not God. These authors contradict each other's claim: Doctorow disproves Rushdie's claim with religion causes freedom to restricted and people being close– mined; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doctorow claims the people of the United States want religion because it is an escape from society's issues. In addition, the word infidels' means one who doubts or rejects central trends of one's religion, but this word is used more towards Christianity and Islam. However, the United States is made of many different religions that people look over, such as: The Shakers, Swendenborgians, and Adventists. Due to the religious freedom in America the nation is filled with a variety of praying, singing and studying that are practiced by millions. Because of these varieties, many religions developed in the U.S such as: Mormonism, Christian Science and Native American Anthropomorphism. It's not about the United States being full of infidels it's about how the United States decided to keep religion and politics separate. A lot of what Doctorow mentions goes against what Rushdie ideas of religion are. Rushdie mentions in a sarcastic way that victors of war can't be close minded because they have God on their side. Basically, saying that those who believe in God tend to be close minded. In addition, Rushdie things freedom is restricted by religious rule. Doctorow argues that a country that has freedom of religion gives people the freedom to believe and not believe in anything they want; without the pressure of religious control. On the other hand, having freedom of religion in a country allows people to have an open– mind by accepting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. How Did Paul Become An Apostle Paul did not become an apostle in the same manner as did the rest of the apostles. He is first encountered as Saul at the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7. Acts 8:3 says, "But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house; and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison." Acts 9, however, tells of his dramatic conversion after seeing Jesus while on the road to Damascus. In Acts 9:15, the Lord said to Ananias regarding Saul, "He is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel." Acts 22:14–15 records that the Lord, speaking through Ananias said to Paul, "The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear an utterance from His mouth. For you will be a witness for Him to all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1 Corinthians 15:9 he wrote, "For I am the least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God." He went on to express his thankfulness in v. 10: "For by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me." He further exhibits his humility in 2 Corinthians 3:5: "Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God. Probably the greatest proof of Paul's apostleship and authority is found in 2 Peter 3:15–16. There Peter refers to Paul as "our beloved brother."
