tutu" (Walls 6). The actress who played Jeannette Wall appeared to be older than 3 years old. The
introduction of the film started with Jeannette asking her mother to cook for her. Her mother refused
with the excuse of "Would you rather have me create art that will last forever or make a meal that
will last a hour"(Destin Daniel Cretton "The Glass Castle"). Of course Rosemary chose to create her
masterpiece or else the film wouldn't have the iconic scene of Jeannette burning when she's making
hot dogs on her own. In the film they missed a minor detail of Juju, the black mutt. Jeannette feeds
the dog a hot dog in the novel in which causes her dress to catch fire. The movie portrays her as
getting too close to the flame in which causes her tutu to catch fire. The similarity in both the novel
and the film is the actress is hungry which causes her to boil the hot dogs in the first place. The
mother is irresponsible and decided to keep painting instead of cooking for her daughter. Rosemary

For those who have not watched the film District 9, here is a quick summary of the movie. In 1982,
aliens arrive on Earth, not to conquer or give aid, but to find refuge from their dying planet.
Separated from humans in a South African area called District 9, the aliens are managed by Multi–
National United, which is not concerned with the aliens' welfare but will do anything to master their
advanced technology. When a company field agent Wikus contracts a mysterious virus that begins to
alter his DNA, there is only one place he can hide: District 9. The film was directed by Neill
Blomkamp and starred Sharlto Copley(Wikus). It begins as a documentary style investigation and
then as the film continues it becomes more conventional and character driven following Wikus and

In Crystal Skin is a documentary film about a young girl (Maria Alejandra) who suffers every day
from a rare skin disease. As she tries to carry on the life of a regular school girl, her illness fights
back leaving her in constant conflict with her mother, who's only wish is for her daughter to have a
normal life. Her life is captured in Michaela O'Brien's 18 minute short, as we watch her go from a
vivacious 11 year old girl, flirting and laughing at school, to a sick immobilized child unable to stop
crying.
O'Brien's choice to make this film a documentary gives the audience a chance to see up close events
as they happen, as well as give Maria and her family a voice. Though there are no crazy camera
shots or planned movements, this only adds to the simplicity of the film. While some make take this
story and re–write it to be more dramatic or even make it a biographical film, they would lose what

This film looks at the life of Oscar Grant in the hours leading up to his death. This film takes on
more of the racial issues of today's society as well as the growing divide between residents and
police. This movie was shot in Oakland, California as well as the BART station where Oscar Grant
was killed. While the film only follows Oscar Grant, the film hits on many of the key racial issues
African–Americans face today. The first thing that I noticed was how the film portrayed the city of
Oakland. In the film Oscar spent most of his time in the ghetto of Oakland, with the only portion of
the movie in which he wasn't was when he was in San Francisco. This was particularly irritating to
me being that I am from Oakland as well. While a great deal of Oakland is run–down there are many
nice parts of Oakland that the film left out in which Oscar was apart of. This pushes the stereotype
that African–Americans are "ghetto," or up to no good. This stereotype was even further pushed
when Oscar was blaring Rap music from his car as he was meeting his friend at Bay View (Scene by
the water). While much of the film portrayed Oscar to be a recovering low life, I did find the
director did an amazing job at ensuring that it was noted Oscar was a loving father. I believe the film
does create a bigger divide between residents and police. I will state I have a personal bias in this
case as my Aunt is a mutual friend to the cop involved in the shooting. Yet, while this movie was
great, the film used the highly publicized Trayvon Martin shooting to promote the film. The
Weinstein Co. also set up the "I am __" campaigned aimed at encouraging people to share their

A a result of my keen interest in my Media Studies Course I have chosen to look for a poem that
highlights the positive and negative viewpoints on different issues surrounding the film industry.

The film is modified from the 1986 book, Wiseguys that traces Henry's rise and fall in New York's
mob scene. Henry evolves into the mobster life quickly and feels like he's on top of the world. After
all, he gets married, starts a family, and becomes quite successful in his chosen line of work. With

Certain charecters are depicted differently between the two films. In Cold Blood focused on

effectively stand in his shoes, making the events more personal. Consequently, Harrowell effectively
