- Phil Hazard puts together a half-bushel of Macintosh apples for a customer at Sunday's Savor and Sample Fest. Like most of the food available at the event, Hazard's apples, in numerous varieties, were produced in Columbia County -- in this case, in a town of Leeds orchard.
- Natalie Kittelson, 7, chugs a pint of Sassy Cow chocolate milk at Sundays' Savor and Samplle Fest.
- All this produce, and then some, came from the Plahnt Farm near Fall River -- one of several exhibitors who showcased foods grown in or near Columbia County at Sunday's Savor and Sample Fest.
- Even though it's her 5-year-old brother, Benjamin, who harbors ambitions to become a dairy farmer, 7-year-old Natalie Kittelson of Johnson Creek builds her own miniature herd of Holsteins at a children's activity table, part of the Savor and Sample Fest.
- Atticus Jaskunas, 18 months, of Columbus, gets a little help from his father, Jeremy Jaskunas, as he paints a miniature pumpkin at Sunday's Savor and Sample Fest. The paint that didn't end up on the pumpkin covered his hands.
- A wagonload of visitors returns from a tour of the Rob and Jamie Baerwolf's conventional dairy herd -- one of the herds (the other is an organic herd) that supply the milk for the Sassy Cow bottling operation that the Baerwolf brothers operate in southern Columbia County.
- The decadent flavor of Sassy Cow dark cherry chocolate ice cream fills the lips and tongue of Wayne Schumann of Sun Prairie at Sunday's Savor and Sample Fest, a showcase of foods produced in or near Columbia County, held Sunday at the Sassy Cow Creamery near Columbus.
- Chef Earl Gesling, who buys his beef from John Priske of rural Fall River, creates a chipotle braised beef short rib on a corn meal johnny cake, topped with sweet corn and wildflower honey salsa.
- A poster from the Wisconsin Farmers Union illustrates how little of a consumer's food dollars end up in a farmer's pocket. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau also had a booth at Sunday's Savor and Sample Fest.
