6. Evaluating Idea through six hat thinking
White Hat(Focusing on Data)
According to 2006 Government survey, 62 million tones of waste generated in our country
Chennai generate 0.71 kg of garbage per person in a day. Our campus generate average of
250 kg to 270 kg of waste (Wet+Dry) and divided by 3600 employee generate on average
0.075gm of waste per person.
The purchasing cost of goods and usage is high and we can reduce by bringing an
awareness to the employees.
According to solid waste management (SWM) rule, 2016. Institutional Generators and
other few industries have been directly made responsible for segregation and sorting the
waste and manage partnership with local bodies.
In our office premises we generate
4500 – 4800 Kg of food waste for a month
7500 – 8000 kg of dry waste only in restroom for a month
1500 kg of sanitary waste only in restroom for a month
7. Red Hat ( React Emotionally)
There is no complete adherence to the waste management policy by all the
employees
More systematic and colleagues feel bit uncomfortable in change
management
More awareness session for colleagues on waste management
Takes more time and self interest from colleagues to follow the systems
Waste management cannot be successful without the employee’s support
It will be effective when we individually feel the responsibility of making
environment clean
Stringent integrated and strategic waste prevention framework to effectively
address wastage related issues
8. Black Hat(Negative Thinking)
Employee’s not interested
New method and feel distance to place waste in dustbins because the
dustbins will be reduced in work stations
If the procedures are not followed by the employees, waste will be stacked in
our premises and it may leads to unhealthy environment
If Wet, dry and sanitary waste are mixed together. The vendor will find
difficulty to segregate it and it may not recycled
Expensive
Market demand in skilled labor
9. Yellow Hat (Optimistic, positive)
Colleague feel they are in healthy environment
Proud to be the part of creating a healthy environment
The weight of the food waste will be reduced by bringing awareness about the
waste management and the cost we spent for this routine activity
Reduce, Reuse & Recycle will effectively bring down the cost saving directly
and indirectly
10. Green Hat (Creativity, Ideas & Lateral
thinking)
To develop the interest from our colleagues we can enforce the importance of
our environment and can place the dustbins in attractive models
Do’s & Don’t posters
Can bring healthy competition in all floors by recognizing the cleanest floor of
the month or quarter
A Barter system can be implemented by giving our dry waste to the vendor
11. Blue Hat (Control & Organization
thinking)
Bringing a waste management vendor in a contract to do the waste
management
Make a plan to meet the vendor and work out on budget
Each floor is 22000 Sq Ft and we need 6 dustbins in each floor
