How Did Technology Change American Society
Throughout all of human history, advances in technology have sparked changes in society. From the
stone tools of the early humans to today's smartphones, technology has influenced history and
helped shape the world to its current form. One historical period that featured significant advances
in technology was the Industrial Revolution, which occurred in the 18th and 19th centuries. During
this time,
Three technological advances of the Industrial Revolution that profoundly transformed American
society were the cotton gin, which made cotton the center of the Southern economy but also
solidified the South's dependence on slavery, the factory system, which established an industrial
economy in the North, and the railroad, which connected the nation. ... Show more content on

Before the Industrial Revolution, products were manufactured using the domestic system, so called
because it took place in homes or in small workshops on a small scale (Trueman). Every home was
responsible for a certain step of the production process and passed its materials onto the next house
when it was finished. This system was sufficient at first, but as the population grew and demand
increased for manufactured goods, its inadequacies became exposed. The most significant flaw was
that the domestic system lacked efficiency–too much time was lost when transferring materials from
home to home. Another weakness of the system was that it required considerable human labor,
limiting production rates. Both problems were first solved in America by Samuel Slater, an English
immigrant who brought his knowledge of British textile manufacturing to the United States (Benson
11). With the help of textile firm owner Moses Brown, Slater built a water–powered cotton mill in
Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1793. Using a waterwheel, the mill harnessed the energy of the
Blackstone River to power the carding machines, roving machines, and water frames that together
spun cleaned cotton fibers into yarn (12). Slater hired children, and later on young women, families,
and newly arrived immigrants, to operate the mill machinery (45). By doing so, he created one of
the first American factories, which were

Communication Technologies: A Dangers To American Democracy
Being an adept of advanced modern technologies, I disagree with the author about considering
communication technologies a danger to American democracy. Accepting or not, we live in a fast
developing world where digital technologies have become essential in order to ensure a better life.
Accordingly, e–voting represents an accommodation of the society to the digital world and makes
citizen more responsible for their actions. By pressing the button on the digital screen to express a
political preference, the citizen assumes responsibilities. Therefore, citizens have to press the button
that indicates their political preferences and nothing else. Citizens should not overthink computer
security since the government has enough resources to ensure

How Has Technology Changed American Culture
Technology is such a big part of our lives now so we can already say that the next generation will
depend on technology because it is already such a big part of the world that it with consume the
world. Society needs to open their eyes and see how much technology has changed America's
culture and daily life. Electronic technology has already changed and been a big part of every area
of society in just the last five years. Technology is changing family life, jobs, society, community,
and even life in general. Technological change leads to more social changes. At first during the
Industrial revolution a lot people packed up and moved so that they could go find work in the

It affects about 80% of people's daily lives. From being the greatest at videogames or the funniest
person on YouTube they have all consumed you and also how you live in your daily life. Our
generation of teenagers/young adults are becoming more and more lazy and dependent on
technology so there is no telling how much more lazy the next generation will be. I think technology
has made our generation of teens more ignorant, greedy, and lazy. As my parents always say "well
when I was a kid we didn't have all those little fancy cell phones, televisions with 1000 channels or
high–tech computers back then all we had was a bike, ball, and our imagination." And I'll just roll
my eyes even though I know for a fact that each generation is just fading more and more and
depending on technology way too much. I wouldn't be surprised if soon, people made chairs that
will hover around to get a drink from the fridge or to take you to and from the rooms in the house so
they don't have to get up and walk to do simple tasks. Technology is taking over our world and no
one is realizing this. Computers and cell phones are good tools for everyone to use, but it doesn't
need to be used for every little thing. Technology can be useful it many ways like curing cancer or
school work. It should be used is as a tool or for helpful reasons, and should not be used for laziness
or ignorance. Overall technology has a huge impact on our lives and the lives of our future

Technology Has Hindered The American Society

Technology has Hindered the American Society Technology has become an important part of the
American lifestyle. Everything from work to school involves technology in some way, shape, or
form. For example, computers have made gathering and transferring information much simpler and
accessible. This is a benefit to society because people are able to become better educated in a
convenient fashion. Convenience has always been one of the main goals that technology has tried to
accomplish. All major inventions, from automobiles to the internet, were created to make life more
convenient and easier for people. Whereas automobiles made it easier for people to travel long
distances in short amounts of time, the Internet has made gathering information, doing business, and
learning much more convenient. Although convenience is a major benefit that technology gives us,
there are also negative effects on society as a result of new inventions. Not all technology is
beneficial, many new technologies have had a negative impact on our youth. Therefore, technology
has hindered the American society because it has made people more self–centered, encouraged
laziness in American youth, and made establishing relationships much more difficult.
Technology has hindered the American society by making people more self–centered, selfish, and
boastful. One of the ways that people are more self–centered is through social media. 7 Deadly

With nearly one billion users on Twitter it is clear that technology is becoming an integral part of
our communications with one another. Throughout the years people have been able to further
communicate with people from across the world. Where it would have taken days to travel
somewhere in the past, we can now travel to the same place in mere hours. Through the click of a
button you can send a message that thousands of people may be able to see without even having to
leave your bedroom, yet these people aren't royalty like they would have had to of been in the past,

People automatically assume that a news organization's bias is strictly a bad thing, while this does
seem like a bad thing, the bias is negated by the sheer quantity of news sites that you can easily
visit, this may take some additional time, but it doesn't have to take a long time, while you're stuck
in traffic you can just pull out your smartphone and look at some news sites. If you find that one site
has too much of a bias that doesn't mean that you should just ignore that site completely, instead you
should look for the same news story on a different site that has a different perspective, instead of
just looking at the media from one point of view, look at both the left and right point of view. This
bias allows for a look into how both sides see an argument, while one side may see something as a
good thing, another side may see it as a bad thing. This allows you to get into the mind of the news
stations and their reporters. While you're watching the news always maintain a level of skepticism
about what the news station is saying. Skepticism is key to watching the news in any environment,

How Has Digital Technology Changed American Culture
American society continues to evolve due to the increase use of digital technology and social media.
The outcomes of these changes have influenced culture in both positive and negative ways. In fact,
they have transformed the norms, behaviors, and values that Americans possess. This has altered the
way relationships are shaped, individual identities are made, and how society conducts business.
Digital technology has revolutionized the way people communicate on a day to day basis as well as
how they portray their self–image. American culture has been reformed through the means of a
screen.
Digital communication has impacted the relationships amongst family, friends, and colleagues,
which has formed new roles and rules that people uphold. It is now normal for everyone to have
access to the internet through some form of computer or mobile phone. Having access to these techs
can allow families to stay in contact with each other over longer distances (Hertlein, 2012). For
instance, deployed military members can stay in contact with loved ones through social media and
video chat. In the past, phone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Zemmels, 2012) noted "Many of the cultural changes in the last 50 years revolve around "doing
things as a family," which has become synonymous with media time" (para. 40). Family activities
are modernized by streaming movies or music, playing video games, and monitoring social media.
More importantly, most media based electronics are operated in bedrooms instead of living rooms
(Zemmels, 2012). Interacting with family and friends is no longer achieved by leaving the home.
Digital media allows people the opportunity to interact through sharing photos, videos, and
messaging. Trends like shopping and paying bills online may take away the opportunity of families
spending time with each other outside their home. Repercussions from these changes may close
businesses and damage family

The Role Of Technology In American Culture
Technology plays a prominent role in today's society. In fact, an apparent characteristic of American
culture appears to be its reliance on technology, which is supported by the frequency of which
average Americans use electronic devices. Smart phones, for example, are commonly used for a
variety of purposes, such as: functioning as an alarm clock, to check emails, to send messages and
make phone calls, to observe traffic in their area, to view weather, even to do tasks at work. Several
people argue that this reliance on technology should be viewed negatively due to its impacts on
society. It is often believed that, while preoccupied with their devices, people neglect social
interaction or are taught to be indolent. However, alternative views ... Show more content on

In the mid–1400's, people collected novels and spent hours reading in their libraries (Unwin). The
same effect occurred with the printing of the newspaper in the late 1600's (Breig), and again with
the development of stationary and portable gaming systems in the mid–1900's (Kudler). Causes of
social issues change with each generation. Therefore, it is imperative to understand that future
generations will be brought up in a different world than the last had. With each new generation,
there will be new technology, different issues, and dissimilar methods of upbringing, however none
of this is should be viewed negatively; this change throughout time indicates progression of society
towards sophistication and worldliness. Although it may appear as though the youngest generation is
excessively reliant on technology, they and future generations will learn to use technology in
moderation as past generations have. Moreover, it is ironic to blame technology for the lack of
social interaction in this day and age when social media is such a popular concept; particularly,
when social media is in the form of an app and can be accessed at any moment from a smart phone.

Essay On The Impact Of Technology On American Society
Impacts of Technology on American Society
The American current growth rate in technology is so high as a result of the advancement taking
place each day. Taking the credit for this progress is the extensive research programs conducted by
researchers at universities, business, and non–profit organizations (Lin and David 5). Currently, the
human life and technology are inseparable, where the American society has a cyclical co–
dependence on technology. Apparently, the technological advancement and expansion impact
differently on the American society, where these impacts can either be positive or negative bringing
about a platform for an argument.
Technology has improved communication and interaction. According to Lin and David, the
introduction of electronic medias such as television, the Internet, radios, social media, among others
has improved the way people exchange ideas, which has developed the American society (39). In
most of the nations, televisions and radios are used to air the concerns of the general public where
the programmers organize live forums enabling the community to contribute through the use of
mobile phones or text services such as Facebook or Twitter. Again, during the political elections,
most of the leaders use the Internet, television or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Narcissism refers to too much interest in one's appearance or oneself sometimes seen on the social
platforms. These platforms are used by most the Americans to show their narcissistic attributes. The
narcissism effect ends up destroying the moral behaviors of our kids (Lin and David 183).
Compared to the preceding kids, the current batch of children born and growing in America is
different. Nowadays, children cannot imagine living a life without all these electronic gadgets and
computer. Apparently, this blends them to the exposure of sexual immorality, as they visit those sites

What Is The Impact Of Technology On American Culture
Since the rise of the digital age, technology has revolutionized transportation, education, and
communication all around the globe. Third world countries now have the ability to treat diseases
and educate their students using the internet. Technology allows us to better use our food,
knowledge, and transportation. But not all of this development increases our ability to grow. In the
colonial times of America, before technology became so prevalent, people knew the value of hard
work and determination. Even when situations provided difficult outcomes, the settlers knew that
they had to work in order to survive. Nowadays, we can cook food in a microwave, receive
information instantly, and travel halfway across the globe in a few hours. If people from the twenty–
first century switched places with the early American settlers, very few of today's technological
giants would survive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This need might have brought about the English proverb "Necessity is the mother of invention"
(The Phrase Finder). Without this basic need for food and shelter, the settlers might have been
content with just using the recourses given to them. Today, people view life without fast–food,
internet, and transportation as an impossible nightmare. In order for the settlers to travel to their
workplace, they had to walk or ride a horse along a muddy dirt road. Their mail system consisted of
horses and ships that often took weeks and months to deliver. Today's society has made us believe
that only technology can finish a job. Stock brokers can only watch millions of dollars slip away
when the internet crashed and many cashiers do not know how to solve simple math when the
register does not mark a discount. We have become so brainwashed into using technology to do our
work for us that we do not know how to complete simple tasks such as solve math equations or

Wisconsin representative Mark Pocan once said "We know that to compete for the jobs of the 21st
century and thrive in a global economy, we need a growing, skilled and educated workforce,

degrees have half the unemployment rate of those with a high school degree." Mark Pocan
recognizes that the majority of unskilled jobs could soon be replaced by machines and robots. He
was urging the people to focus their job paths on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Technology Has Impacted The Lifestyle Of Americans
Over the years, technology has become a great advancement that has led us towards a new way to
live our life. We can see that the use of technology has increased as time has passed. Kids as young
as 4 years old are exposed to technology such as tablets in order to entertain them. Not only has
technology created a way to entertain people, but has also created a way to motivate others, become
a convenient tool for those with a limited amount of time and a reliable source for other things. We
have become more dependent on technology because of the different ways it can be used such as on
the go or right at home. The truth is that technology has positively impacted the lifestyle of
Americans.
As of today, many well–known companies are changing the workplace and including technology in
the worker 's life as a way to motivate them. According to the article, "Perks and Recreation" by
Megan Garber, she states that the company Evernote has brought in a vending machine that
"dispenses, instead of candy, computer accessories".(28) These exclusive perks can be seen as a way
to maintain its employees working hard because they recognize that they cannot get these rewards
anywhere else. This vending machine is also very useful to the workers because if they ever need
something, such as a charger, they can easily access this device to get it. Wouldn 't you be content

How Are Museum Curators Incorporating New Technology Into...

I202 Final Assignment

Research Question:
How are museum curators incorporating new technology into exhibits to enhance participation from
a younger generations of Americans?
Background:
According to an article written by the Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Alliance and
Collaboratory museums across the United States are feeling more and more inclined to move toward
interactive exhibits. In order to do so, they are beginning to incorporate technologies into a visitor's
experience (Future). Therefore, this incorporation of technology and experience is directly related to
the study of social informatics.
Traditionally, research for museum exhibits has come from the fields of cognitive and behavioural
sciences to look at the pull that visitor's may feel towards a certain exhibit and how well the visitor
was able to obtain knowledge from the exhibit (Lehn). Now, social informatics, the interdisciplinary
study of the relationship between information technology and society, is also being used within the
museum culture in order to understand how much better a visitor experience can be when done with
technology. It also, however, raises the question of best for whom? The largest selection of patrons
to museums generally are from the baby boomer generation with younger generations of Americans
being the smallest section of museum participators. How can technology encourage the young
without alienating the old?

Technology Affecting American Culture
Technology has been a large part of American culture for the last 200 years and continues to grow
more each year. This has made a large impact on our everyday lives and how we interact with one
another. The U.S. alone sends over 6 billion texts each day! (Textrequest). This takes away quality
time engaging with friends and family. Phones and other devices have taken over our way of
communicating, thus affecting our relationships with others. First, technology is causing people to
be socially isolated. Americans' social isolation has tripled between 1985 and 2004 a study shows
(LiveScience). For example, many people would go and hang out with their friends, if it weren't for
their phones and other devices distracting them. In any restaurant ... Show more content on

For example, most people just text each other if they want to communicate instead of meeting them
face–to–face. We recently had a friend who went to orientation at a college, and the dean said "The
largest problem with today's students is that they are bad at talking face–to–face." In America,
people text twice as much as they call (textrequest). This can cause many people to have a difficult
time fully understanding others and interpreting their emotions. According to fastcodesign, during
an experiment in 2005 people were asked to send 10 messages, either sarcastic or serious, to a
recipient. They believed the person receiving the messages would easily tell if the sender was
serious or sarcastic. To their disbelief, the receiver identified the correct emotion only 56% of the
time. After this, they repeated the experiment, but with voice recordings. This time the recipient
could tell the emotion 73% of the time. This proves how important it is to talk to someone in person
over messaging to fully understand their mood. Many people become annoyed when doing an
activity with another person who is on their phone the entire time. Since most people text rather than
talk face–to–face today, this is a major contributor to poor communication

Positive And Negative Effects Of Technology On American...
Technological advancements in recent decades have drastically affected many aspects of American
society; our government is no exception. With a rapidly growing population, it is imperative that we
maximize the efficiency of government organizations, while also being mindful of financial
burdens. Technology is allowing government organizations to make relevant information more
readily available to American citizens, which can reduce the amount of one–on–one time each
customer requires with a government employee. The use of the Internet, I believe, has made the
most significant change to how we are able to deal with government organizations. Many tasks that
used to require mailing letters or meeting someone in person can now be accomplished online.
Despite the various positive impacts technology has had on government organizations, there are
unfortunately some negative aspects that require attention as well; for example, security concerns.
More money must be allocated for cyber security advancements as people learn how to take
advantage of modern technology. We've seen in the recent Wiki Leaks hacks during the 2016
Presidential Election that hacking can dramatically affect situations within the United States. The
Obama Administration formed the Internet Policy Task Force to investigate privacy concerns,

Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski" (Source 4). Before the advancement of

deeper level the topic. However, now people are browsing the topic without understanding what
they are really researching. In source 8, a boy is surrounded by books and he is on his computer. He

Technology in the American Classroom
Technology has dramatically influenced our modern day culture in several ways; we now operate
completely different compared to the past. In fact, it can be shown in many tasks that we very rarely
complete a simple operation without the use of technology. For example, washing dishes, heating
food, doing our homework, and even communication are all examples of how technology has
evolved simple tasks. Even furthermore, technology has changed the way education has been taught
and received in American classrooms. However, technology was not always so highly advanced in
American schools. In fact, a classroom in the 1950's had little to no technology; one would find
blackboards, chalk, handouts, and quite possibly a film–strip projectors. However, even the
"advancement" of a film–strip projector required much work, due to the fact that many teachers
were obligated to travel great distances to retrieve a film–strip for the projector (Cuban, Larry). On
the contrary, things have significantly changed in the 21st century American classroom. In fact, it
would be quite common to see laptops, televisions, and other cutting–edge technology in a
significant amount of public schools. Although, the evolution of technology within the classroom
has created several conflicting ideas and opinions, technology is continuing to increase in
classrooms every day. In fact, technology has drastically changed the American classroom since the

I always hate when singers talk about how they had to sell out when they signed to a major label. If
they want to be an 'artist' they should sign to an indie. Major labels spend millions in promotion and
they do what it takes to recoup that money. They know what sells and until someone is a superstar,
they do not call the shots. If singers don't like it then they should stay singing in their local coffee
shop. it's not a 9 to 5 job. you work long hours, you come in and work in the morning then go to
shows at night that last until early the following morning. Then you get out of bed and do it again.
And you don't just go to shows. You must talk to as many people in the room as possible and make

The idea that no matter where you start in life you have opportunity to work hard and gain

almost dying if not already totally dead concept. Something seen only in fairy tales and movies and
not really so much in real life. In these days and times it seems as though it does not matter how
hard you work, but rather the people you know, that decide whether you will have the opportunity to

Native American Technology
From the moment of birth to the day we die, technology engulfs our lives in every possible way.
Technology is becoming entrenched in our modern life and is changing how we engage each other
throughout our days. Seven years ago, a young girl was born three months premature, weighing only
three pounds nine ounces. She was taken directly to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and
stayed there for the next five months. After her stay in the NICU, she was able to be brought home
where she needed to be connected to a special device to monitor her vitals. Although this is only the
beginning, her life will be filled with the wonders of new technology. My sister, Elisabeth Marie

The original due date for this unborn child was not until three months from this night, however, the
doctors had the situation under control. When my mom went into labor prematurely, they had the
ability to perform a Cesarean section and give birth to my little sister. This was only the beginning
of the adventure for three pounds one ounce Elisabeth Marie Ballard. The first stop on her journey
was the NICU to be placed in an incubator to be kept warm and monitored for developmental
problems. During the first weeks of her life, she was fed breast milk through a tube that ran from her
nose to her stomach. After two months in the NICU incubator, she was finally gained enough weight
to go home. This exciting moment did come with a few strings attached. Her weight and vitals still
needed to be monitored, so the hospital sent home a machine that allowed them to receive all of her
vitals in real time. Her size and prematurity have never stopped her from leading a regular life.
Thanks to the technology advancements in the medical field, my sister survived her prematurity and
is now leading the life of an annoying six–year–old sibling. Libby, as we call her, transcended the
process of natural selection and childhood mortality, and her life is a miracle. The credit can be

American technology has become an enormous influence in each other's life. Everybody uses their

world uses social media to contact their family members and friends around the world. Most
Americans in today's society are just too lazy to go to the library and do it themselves. Now we have

Technology Effects On American Culture
American culture is being remodeled by the technology around us. Television, radio, and the
internet were once great mediums for news and knowledge, now the focus is almost entirely
centered around entertainment. Technological expansion has been a marvel of human
accomplishment, but we seem to use it for all the wrong reasons. Technology is constantly
advancing and easing everyday life, but are we actually hurting ourselves?
Every year our children are being more and more absorbed in technology and we have little control
over what they see and hear. Think back to the days when all we had were books. There are
definitely books that children should not read, but most do so much for us educationally. Books
taught children to read and write.

Innovations have affected people in several aspects from their thoughts and actions to their interest.
Technology has been beneficial for society by making every day human task easier and making
things like communication and transportation more efficient and convenient. However, technology
can also be detrimental when it surpasses boundaries that should not be broken .In the novel,
technology continues to play a key role in American society both negatively and positively. In 2030,
there's a market for artificial people with various purposes. "The fake business in general has
become huge: fake protection, fake friends, friend life, and fake love. It was getting so good that the
word "virtual" was virtually dropped. If someone said he was going to Tahiti for a week, the first
question was usually, "The real one?"(Brooks 5) The fake people were used to make a house look
like it was occupied to deter burglars. The market also included fake children "...who were as real as
pets. They didn't grow; you could buy them at age five and they would stay that way" (Brooks 6).
There is a con that comes with every technology that is introduced in America. Humans are
becoming dependent on technology, they look to solve problem by retrieving information instead of
relying on knowledge they already have. Today's society is becoming dependent on the knowledge
needed to find information instead of the knowledge acquired by previously finding information.

The Negative Effects Of Technology On American Culture
Technology is moving forward today because people are developing new machines which have
advanced technology. Technology will help human beings to create or get closer to the future, and it
can help in so many ways. Also, technology is making people smarter than before because
technology has brought today new programs, new creations, and different ways to think due to the
new advanced technology. Technology will always help the people because that is the way the world
moves forward to the future. However, there are people who do not know how to use technology, so
the question remains: is technology a negative influence in America culture? Today people should
learn how to use technology because is not a negative influence in America culture. Sometimes
technology can be a negative influence due to the way people use it and they can affect the America
Culture.
First, technology is making the society smarter due to new machines; furthermore, technology has
impacted in the America culture which is great. The influenced that technology has in America
culture is good because it will change the way people think and develop new ideas in the future, so
it can affect the American culture in good ways. For example, people will get educated due to new
advanced technology because machines or programs will always be there to help human beings.
Actually, computer and machines have the ability to think faster than humans being, so according to
Thompson, "The computer would bring the lightning fast" because computers or machines have a
database ready to think really fast (344). Every time human beings develop new innovations people
worry about that the life is not going to be the same because technology will change their people's
lives because according to Thompson, the machine's way of "thinking" is fundamentally unhuman"
(243). In addition, when machines get better than the human beings, there will be great help from
computers or machines. The America culture can be affect by the technology because new
machines, but it will never have some negative influences. Technology will improve American
culture in good ways because technology will help people in so many ways as thinking, developing
new ideas, and new creations.

The Role Of Technology In The Modern American Household
Over the past 30 years, technology has made great strides towards becoming a fundamental part of
our everyday lives; and for millions of parents and their children, it already is. The modern
American household is catered towards the technologically inclined– computers, tablets, gaming
systems, and smart TVs have become commonplace in many homes. Not only do they serve their
practical purpose, but devices such as these also offer many opportunites for children and toddlers to
learn, play, and experience things they'd previously been unable to. Many might challenge ideas
such as this without outdated statistics or conservative mindsets, but the truth of the matter is, the
technological era has arrived; and our children need to learn how to live in it.
With the growing population of middle class households that have access to internet and cable,
educational programming has seen a burst in activity and popularity. Families that were otherwise
unable to access educational TV and games before are now able to do so, and their children have the
opportunity to learn and play as they never have before. Increased exposure to such educational
mediums has allowed for households with young children to experience types of knowledge and

The European Impact on Native American Technology Essay
The European Impact on Native American Technology
When European exploration led to the populating of the Americas, it was described as the event
with one of the greatest ecological impacts in history. The force behind this impact was the mass
movement of people and their behavior's toward their "New World". It only stands to reason that a
clash would occur with the natives of these lands. One of the areas with the greatest conflict was the
field of technology.
Scientifically, when the cultures of 15th century Europe and the natives in the Americas are
concerned, the two are fairly alike. In Europe,a great deal of work was done in astronomy. Of course

Consequently, there was no real understanding of the human body and how it functioned. At this
period in time, such remedies as using leeches for blood–lettings were common practice in
Europe(McGovern, 75).
This is one area which contrasts greatly with the native cultures. The Indians of the Americas were
far ahead of the Europeans of their time. Because of the closeness and respect for nature, many
natural cures were used. The Aztecs had even gone as far as surgery to remove organs and even
work on the brain. The Indians also took much better care of themselves pysically. This was done by
a better diet and exercise. In some cultures a type of martial arts was taught beginning in
adolesence, to keep in shape both mentally and pysically. Despite all of these advancements, they
were powerless to the new and unfamilliar European diseases.
Another area in which the Indians thrived was that of agriculture and their understanding of the
earth. Europeans had little knowledge of agriculture, or chose not to use what they did have. Europe
was in a state of agricultural depression. Most of the soil was completely exhausted due to overuse
and general mistreatment of the land. Both activities which continued in America.

In any event, most 16 year olds will get a car and it will effect that family.
Before children are old enough to drive, parents have to take them everywhere. When people are as
busy as they are today, time in the car is some extra time you have to bond with your family. Parents
drive their children to school and sporting events, pick them up from practice, take them to the
doctor, and even to their friend's house. When the child can do that on their own, there is just that
much less time spent together. I believe there is a set time when this "bonding" will stop.
I can remember when I got my car on my 16th birthday. It was right after my birthday and I had just
started my first real job. I didn't have a car before that, but on my first day of work I came home to
the Dodge Neon sitting in my driveway. I was so happy to have my own car, but it was expected. I
didn't know of any of my friends that didn't have at least something to drive. I wouldn't doubt if my
parents, along with others, felt pressured to make sure their child had a car. In today's society, we are
judged by materialistic goods. A child can't be accepted at school unless they have a certain poise
about them that shows they have enough money to be considered well off. A car is not only needed
for transportation today, but also for acceptance. Families feel pressured to have the best, not only
the parents cars, but also their child's. Another "musthave" is a television.

Technology has changed the way we do things because it gives us information that we did not have

In fact, a classroom in the 1950's had little to no technology; one would find
blackboards, chalk, handouts, and quite possibly a film–strip projector. However, even the
"advancement" of a film–strip projector required much work, due to the fact that many teachers
were obligated to travel great distances to retrieve a film–strip for the projector (Cuban, Larry). On
the contrary, things have significantly changed in the 21st century American classroom. In truth, it is
extremely common to see laptops, televisions, and other cutting–edge technology in a significant
amount of today's public schools. Although the evolution of technology within the classroom has
created several conflicting ideas and opinions, technology is actually continuing to increase in
classrooms every day and does not seem to decrease any time soon. Unsurprisingly, technology has

Has Technology Made Americans Lazy?
Technology has become a significant attachment in our lives. According to an article titled "U.S.
Smartphone Use in 2015" by Aaron Smith, he states "nearly two–thirds of Americans own a
smartphone, and 19% of Americans relied to some degree on a smartphone for accessing online
services and information and for staying connected to the world around them." Even with all of the
wonderful advancements in technology, one question that seems to arise is: has technology made
Americans lazy? One of the purposes of technology is to make people's lives simpler but could it
actually make our lives less active? By observing the type of people we have become, the evidence
or effects that occur from using technology, and future consequences, an answer might be obtained.
Americans use technology every single day whether it be for business or leisure purposes. Because
of this daily usage Americans' reliance on technology increases exceedingly each day. Even though
a machine may be able to complete a task twice as fast as a human, banking upon a machine is a
very foolhardy decision. Not only does it yield torpid employees; but in the case the machine
happens to break down, there is a high probability the employees will be inexperienced and have
trivial knowledge on how to take on the position of the apparatus thus resulting in a massive
decrease in production within that establishment. We have also become inactive people. In an article

What can we do to adapt to the inevitable technological takeover? To start, we can invest in
education and adult learning programs. According to the World Economic Forum ,"Around 65% of

training is crucial" (Kottasova). Since computing power doubles every two years it is difficult to

we are investing in education and training for the American worker" (Masunaga). Additionally,

How Does Technology Affect The American Workforce
Technological advancements are affecting work and the American workforce. One of the ways that
technological changes are affecting work and the American workforce is by causing some
occupations to be eliminated, while some researchers believe that technology generates jobs and
increases them. Clerical types of work are one of the professions greatly affected because of word
processing. Other companies affected by technology include telephone, railroads, printing industry,
retail, hotel management, libraries, and other service type jobs. Robotics is another form of
technology that is causing workers to lose jobs such as welders, and productions painters in the car
business. 90,000 jobs were developed in robotics but 300,000 workers lost jobs. New technologies
affect workers need for training and more education. For instance, employees need to gain new
skills constantly to keep up with the ever–changing technical world of work. Last, even though
computer–engineering jobs are supposed to be one of the quickest expanding jobs, the total number
of jobs available will be low in the future (Hodson & Sullivan, 2012).

How Did Technology Change American Society

  • 1. How Did Technology Change American Society Throughout all of human history, advances in technology have sparked changes in society. From the stone tools of the early humans to today's smartphones, technology has influenced history and helped shape the world to its current form. One historical period that featured significant advances in technology was the Industrial Revolution, which occurred in the 18th and 19th centuries. During this time, Three technological advances of the Industrial Revolution that profoundly transformed American society were the cotton gin, which made cotton the center of the Southern economy but also solidified the South's dependence on slavery, the factory system, which established an industrial economy in the North, and the railroad, which connected the nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the Industrial Revolution, products were manufactured using the domestic system, so called because it took place in homes or in small workshops on a small scale (Trueman). Every home was responsible for a certain step of the production process and passed its materials onto the next house when it was finished. This system was sufficient at first, but as the population grew and demand increased for manufactured goods, its inadequacies became exposed. The most significant flaw was that the domestic system lacked efficiency–too much time was lost when transferring materials from home to home. Another weakness of the system was that it required considerable human labor, limiting production rates. Both problems were first solved in America by Samuel Slater, an English immigrant who brought his knowledge of British textile manufacturing to the United States (Benson 11). With the help of textile firm owner Moses Brown, Slater built a water–powered cotton mill in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1793. Using a waterwheel, the mill harnessed the energy of the Blackstone River to power the carding machines, roving machines, and water frames that together spun cleaned cotton fibers into yarn (12). Slater hired children, and later on young women, families, and newly arrived immigrants, to operate the mill machinery (45). By doing so, he created one of the first American factories, which were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Communication Technologies: A Dangers To American Democracy Being an adept of advanced modern technologies, I disagree with the author about considering communication technologies a danger to American democracy. Accepting or not, we live in a fast developing world where digital technologies have become essential in order to ensure a better life. Accordingly, e–voting represents an accommodation of the society to the digital world and makes citizen more responsible for their actions. By pressing the button on the digital screen to express a political preference, the citizen assumes responsibilities. Therefore, citizens have to press the button that indicates their political preferences and nothing else. How Has Technology Changed American Culture Technology is such a big part of our lives now so we can already say that the next generation will depend on technology because it is already such a big part of the world that it with consume the world. Society needs to open their eyes and see how much technology has changed America's culture and daily life. Electronic technology has already changed and been a big part of every area of society in just the last five years. Technology is changing family life, jobs, society, community, and even life in general. Technological change leads to more social changes. From being the greatest at videogames or the funniest person on YouTube they have all consumed you and also how you live in your daily life. Our generation of teenagers/young adults are becoming more and more lazy and dependent on technology so there is no telling how much more lazy the next generation will be. I think technology has made our generation of teens more ignorant, greedy, and lazy. As my parents always say "well when I was a kid we didn't have all those little fancy cell phones, televisions with 1000 channels or high–tech computers back then all we had was a bike, ball, and our imagination." And I'll just roll my eyes even though I know for a fact that each generation is just fading more and more and depending on technology way too much. I wouldn't be surprised if soon, people made chairs that will hover around to get a drink from the fridge or to take you to and from the rooms in the house so they don't have to get up and walk to do simple tasks. Technology is taking over our world and no one is realizing this. Computers and cell phones are good tools for everyone to use, but it doesn't need to be used for every little thing. Technology can be useful it many ways like curing cancer or school work. It should be used is as a tool or for helpful reasons, and should not be used for laziness or ignorance. • 5. Technology Has Hindered The American Society Armineh Geragossian Professor M. Basalla ESL 151 November 29, 2016 Technology has Hindered the American Society Technology has become an important part of the American lifestyle. Everything from work to school involves technology in some way, shape, or form. For example, computers have made gathering and transferring information much simpler and accessible. This is a benefit to society because people are able to become better educated in a convenient fashion. Convenience has always been one of the main goals that technology has tried to accomplish. All major inventions, from automobiles to the internet, were created to make life more convenient and easier for people. Whereas automobiles made it easier for people to travel long distances in short amounts of time, the Internet has made gathering information, doing business, and learning much more convenient. Although convenience is a major benefit that technology gives us, there are also negative effects on society as a result of new inventions. Not all technology is beneficial, many new technologies have had a negative impact on our youth. Therefore, technology has hindered the American society because it has made people more self–centered, encouraged laziness in American youth, and made establishing relationships much more difficult. Technology has hindered the American society by making people more self–centered, selfish, and boastful. One of the ways that people are more self–centered is through social media. 7 Deadly ... Throughout the years people have been able to further communicate with people from across the world. Where it would have taken days to travel somewhere in the past, we can now travel to the same place in mere hours. Through the click of a button you can send a message that thousands of people may be able to see without even having to leave your bedroom, yet these people aren't royalty like they would have had to of been in the past, these people can simply go to the public library and make a post. People automatically assume that a news organization's bias is strictly a bad thing, while this does seem like a bad thing, the bias is negated by the sheer quantity of news sites that you can easily visit, this may take some additional time, but it doesn't have to take a long time, while you're stuck in traffic you can just pull out your smartphone and look at some news sites. If you find that one site has too much of a bias that doesn't mean that you should just ignore that site completely, instead you should look for the same news story on a different site that has a different perspective, instead of just looking at the media from one point of view, look at both the left and right point of view. This bias allows for a look into how both sides see an argument, while one side may see something as a good thing, another side may see it as a bad thing. This allows you to get into the mind of the news stations and their reporters. While you're watching the news always maintain a level of skepticism about what the news station is saying. • 7. How Has Digital Technology Changed American Culture American society continues to evolve due to the increase use of digital technology and social media. The outcomes of these changes have influenced culture in both positive and negative ways. In fact, they have transformed the norms, behaviors, and values that Americans possess. This has altered the way relationships are shaped, individual identities are made, and how society conducts business. Digital technology has revolutionized the way people communicate on a day to day basis as well as how they portray their self–image. American culture has been reformed through the means of a screen. Digital communication has impacted the relationships amongst family, friends, and colleagues, which has formed new roles and rules that people uphold. It is now normal for everyone to have access to the internet through some form of computer or mobile phone. Having access to these techs can allow families to stay in contact with each other over longer distances (Hertlein, 2012). More importantly, most media based electronics are operated in bedrooms instead of living rooms (Zemmels, 2012). Interacting with family and friends is no longer achieved by leaving the home. • 8. The Role Of Technology In American Culture Technology plays a prominent role in today's society. In fact, an apparent characteristic of American culture appears to be its reliance on technology, which is supported by the frequency of which average Americans use electronic devices. Smart phones, for example, are commonly used for a variety of purposes, such as: functioning as an alarm clock, to check emails, to send messages and make phone calls, to observe traffic in their area, to view weather, even to do tasks at work. Several people argue that this reliance on technology should be viewed negatively due to its impacts on society. It is often believed that, while preoccupied with their devices, people neglect social interaction or are taught to be indolent. However, alternative views ... The same effect occurred with the printing of the newspaper in the late 1600's (Breig), and again with the development of stationary and portable gaming systems in the mid–1900's (Kudler). Causes of social issues change with each generation. Therefore, it is imperative to understand that future generations will be brought up in a different world than the last had. With each new generation, there will be new technology, different issues, and dissimilar methods of upbringing, however none of this is should be viewed negatively; this change throughout time indicates progression of society towards sophistication and worldliness. Although it may appear as though the youngest generation is excessively reliant on technology, they and future generations will learn to use technology in moderation as past generations have. Moreover, it is ironic to blame technology for the lack of social interaction in this day and age when social media is such a popular concept; particularly, when social media is in the form of an app and can be accessed at any moment from a smart phone. Taking the credit for this progress is the extensive research programs conducted by researchers at universities, business, and non–profit organizations (Lin and David 5). Currently, the human life and technology are inseparable, where the American society has a cyclical co– dependence on technology. Third world countries now have the ability to treat diseases and educate their students using the internet. Technology allows us to better use our food, knowledge, and transportation. But not all of this development increases our ability to grow. In the colonial times of America, before technology became so prevalent, people knew the value of hard work and determination. Even when situations provided difficult outcomes, the settlers knew that they had to work in order to survive. In America, people text twice as much as they call (textrequest). This can cause many people to have a difficult time fully understanding others and interpreting their emotions. According to fastcodesign, during an experiment in 2005 people were asked to send 10 messages, either sarcastic or serious, to a recipient. After this, they repeated the experiment, but with voice recordings. This time the recipient could tell the emotion 73% of the time. This proves how important it is to talk to someone in person over messaging to fully understand their mood. There are many forces and pressures that help to shape the American family that we all see, as well as, are a part of today. In any event, most 16 year olds will get a car and it will effect that family. Before children are old enough to drive, parents have to take them everywhere. When people are as busy as they are today, time in the car is some extra time you have to bond with your family. Parents drive their children to school and sporting events, pick them up from practice, take them to the doctor, and even to their friend's house. When the child can do that on their own, there is just that much less time spent together. I believe there is a set time when this "bonding" will stop. I can remember when I got my car on my 16th birthday. It was right after my birthday and I had just started my first real job. I didn't have a car before that, but on my first day of work I came home to the Dodge Neon sitting in my driveway. I was so happy to have my own car, but it was expected. I didn't know of any of my friends that didn't have at least something to drive. I wouldn't doubt if my parents, along with others, felt pressured to make sure their child had a car. In today's society, we are judged by materialistic goods. A child can't be accepted at school unless they have a certain poise about them that shows they have enough money to be considered well off. A car is not only needed for transportation today, but also for acceptance. Families feel pressured to have the best, not only the parents cars, but also their child's. Even with all of the wonderful advancements in technology, one question that seems to arise is: has technology made Americans lazy? One of the purposes of technology is to make people's lives simpler but could it actually make our lives less active? By observing the type of people we have become, the evidence or effects that occur from using technology, and future consequences, an answer might be obtained. Even though a machine may be able to complete a task twice as fast as a human, banking upon a machine is a very foolhardy decision. Not only does it yield torpid employees; but in the case the machine happens to break down, there is a high probability the employees will be inexperienced and have trivial knowledge on how to take on the position of the apparatus thus resulting in a massive decrease in production within that establishment.
