Pekin Municipal Airport Bridge Case Study
All these strategies developed trust between Mr. Clayton and his staff accomplished his projects
through collaboration and cooperation. When performing his duties, he guided himself by Mark
Twain's principle, which says, "if you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything." Further
Mr. Clayton stated that he used collaborative approach as a manager and identified himself as a
transformational leader.
Leadership style components as identified by me and related to readings.
According to the circumstances that were prevailing when Mr. Clayton became the Airport Manager,
due to the financial constraints (due economic issues and budget impasse), I consider Mr. Clayton as

Clayton stated that there are no people of color and women on his staff at Pekin Municipal Airport.
Furthermore, he pointed out that there are no people of color and women in the airport board, but
they are certainly there on other Boards/Committees throughout the City. The airport does not have
a diversity program/initiative; however, the City Human Resource Officer did provide self–training
information on the subject. Even though the airport does not have a diversity policy, the airport
participates in Federal/State capital improvement programs with diversity policies built in (e.g. DBE
program). For example, he participated in diversity education/training as a city employee through
community programs. Asked whether the airport prepares/trains new staff to work with people of
color and women, he said the airport does not provide such training. Furthermore, he pointed out
that the airport does not have a policy or program meant to retain people of color and women. Other
city divisions seem to have a decent mix of diversity. As a Millennial, Mr. Clayton pointed out that
sometimes it was difficult dealing with the city policymakers because of age difference, however,
they sometimes gave him a seat at the table to air his

The Debt Ceiling: Why it Hurts America Essay
The Debt Ceiling: Why it Hurts America In 1917, the United States Congress applied the concept of
a "debt ceiling". Prior to 1917, Congress had to directly authorize the amount of each borrowing.
The debt ceiling was put in place to provide more flexibility to finance the US involvement in World
War I. After the application of the debt ceiling, the United States Treasury could borrow any amount
needed as long as it keeps the total at or below the authorized ceiling. I believe a debt ceiling is a
very necessary component of American politics as long as it is used correctly; however, it has been
abused by frequent increases, and should be monitored more effectively. On August 2nd, 2011, the
date estimated by the Department of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our government did not make the right move, and we will all see the consequences of it in the long
run. Instead of raising the debt ceiling to around $15.4 Trillion dollars, Mr. Obama should have
placed at least the same amount of spending cuts as the proposed raised debt ceiling, if not more.
The debt ceiling debate really comes down to your individual view on fiscal economics. If a person
follows the general conservative view they recognize the fact that a government can only spend as
much as it takes in. A liberal point of view would see a country's spending as a necessary part of
keeping a functioning society, and that debt is a side affect of this process. If a country continues to
build insurmountable debt, an individual or business is less likely to invest in that country's bonds or
economy in general because they may worry about whether they will be able to cash out and get
their money. This depreciation in investor confidence could eventually lead to a drop in the country's
credit rating from the major financial institutions. A drop in credit rating for a country's bonds shows
an overall lack of stability for that country. A decrease in investments in bonds and stocks for a
country can hurt GDP and eventually send the country into a recession due to the governments
inability to run efficiently. Although some people may be liberal in all political issues

Community Health Status Assessment ( Chsa )
The Community Health Status Assessment (CHSA) is one phase of MAPP process. It identifies how
healthy the residents in Champaign's County Illinois are, and what is the current health status of the
community. CHSA also detects the quality of life of the population within the community (National
Association of County & City Health Officials, 2014). From data of this phase of MAPP process,
Champaign County Illinois could understand where they are in comparison to the State of Illinois
and the nation. CHSA data includes death rates, birth rates, the top–ranked communicable disease in
this region, behavioral risk factors, violent and injury crimes rates, and other social determinants
may affect the health of the people in the community (National Association of County & City Health
Officials, 2014). Definition of health as in this assessment is taken from the World Health
Organization; a state of complete mental, physical and social wellbeing and doesn't mean disease
free or disability and the indicators have analyzed here support this philosophy (Carole Community
Health Needs Assessments, 2014). Interpretation of the indicators proposed by Medicine Institute in
the county, through comparison them with data from other communities and the data from the nation

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Spoon River '
Small town life is in many places. You may not see it, but its everywhere. Newport, Vermont is an
example of small town life. Newport has one small hospital, one church, no mall, many small shops,
and one small movie theater. The small town life written in on the epitaphs in Edger Lee Masters
Spoon River Anthology accurately reflects small town life in Newport, Vermont.
Edgar Lee Masters was a poet and a novelist. He was born on August 23,1868 in Garnett, Kansas.
His parents are Hardin Wallace Masters and Emma J. Dexter. Masters grew up on his grandmother?s
farm in Illinois. After growing up on his grandmother?s farm, he became a lawyer in Chicago. He
died March 5,1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Spoon River Anthology is made up of 244 epitaph poems. The epitaphs are fictional people
from a fictional town. The poems are written in free–verse. Free–verse is when a poet uses no
pattern to the poem.
When Masters started the Spoon River Anthology, he ?began to contribute his Spoon River epitaphs
to Reedy?s Mirror in the spring of 1914.? (Flanagan, John 21) Before this Masters never received
recognition for his work. In 1915 the Spoon River Anthology was published . It ?captured him into
fame and began a critical discussion of his poetry witch raged unabated for several decades.?
(Flanagan 21)
After this Edger Lee Masters became almost immediately a towering figure in the New American
poetry. People were writing articles in various periodicals entitled Masters and

Argumentative Synthesis Of President Obama

Argumentative Synthesis
President Barack Hussein Obama was the forty fourth president elected into office in 2008 and the
first United States president, under the constitution, of African descent. He has worked his way up
from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate then officially sworn in as president on January 20,
2009. Considering his background in politics, logically, he should be a responsible, trustworthy
candidate for president yet that does not stand for his mentality of how to run a country. He has
portrayed himself as a person of significance by supporting the same sex marriage law, preventing
the unnecessary travel of oil and petroleum, and fighting for paid leave for company employees;
nevertheless, he has caused grief to appear in the families of war participants. Conversely, pre
presidency, Obama promised to end the war of American troops fighting in Afghanistan in the year
2014, he promised to direct revenues from oil drills to increase coastal protection, he also promised
to become a person who unites the American people; however, has this so called "president" kept
any of those promises or have they long been abandoned? As Barack Obama 's second term comes
to an end, it is apparent that Obama is one of the most hypocritical presidents in American history.
On Friday, November 6, 2015, President Obama refused an agreement with a Canadian oil company
about building the Keystone XL oil

Current State of the Union; Analysis of a Political...
When describing the current state of the USA, very little positive language would be used. The more
standard response would be one including an overall negative, and debt describing language. As
seen in Barrack Obama's 2014 State of the Union Address, the president of our nation seemed to
completely disregard the actual "state" of the union by simply stating that, "The state of the union is
sound". This short, vague, and contradicting statement seemed to be blow up the anemic
progressions our nation has made during Obamas presidency. It is safe to say that the description of
a "sound" nation did not make a connection with many Americans. It left people with more of a
sense of confusion to what the actual situation stands to be. That situation, the current state of our
union, would more appropriately be described as upsetting. Especially when being described by the
current president of over five years who promised to better our nation. Gary McCoy's drawing
depicts the not so serious response to Barack Obama's humorous statement to the current state of the
union, and poses the argument that his remarks no longer send a sense of promise and hope, but
more of something to just roll your eyes at. In the cartoon, President Barack Obama is presented in a
stereotypical and degrading way. He is drawn to have a very prominent round nose, and much
emphasis is placed on his very "large ears". With this, he is also depicted with a tiny head,
potentially hinting at a small brain. In

Being A Tough Climb By Adam Lambert
Adam Lambert says, "Being different is always going to be a tough climb." What do the stories from
the Pixar people tell us about what it is like to be a kid and be on that "tough climb?" Pixar people is
trying to tell us that being different is okay and if you stay true, strong, and loyal to yourself and you
will create happiness and self esteem within yourself. They explained how being gay and coming
out was extremely difficult but no matter how hard things may seem things will get better if you
start thinking about the future and not just the things that are happening now. Everyone in life goes
through some type of struggles in life and there is always someone in the world that is experiencing
the same things that you are What can we do to help the kids who are "different," for whatever
reason? How can we help them feel less alone? We can talk to them and tell them that being
different is what makes them who they are. I would also explain to them that being strong and
realizing that not everyone in the world accepts people who are different but then there are those
who do. That is why they must befriend people who are similar to them and accepts them for who
they are. Because changing themselves for the sake of others will not contribute to their happiness. I
think that letting kids know that are loved and that you there for them when things are difficult in
life gives them the feeling of support. And this is what a child needs in order to stay strong and think
positive.

Women During The Civil War
There were many famous names from the Civil War, some of the more notable names were: Ulysses
S. Grant, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, and George Custer. These names are synonymous with great
generals who fought great battles during the war, but what about Sarah Emma Edmonds, Clara
Burton, Dorthea Dix, Rose O'Neal Greenhow, and Loreta Janeta Velazquez? These names are not as
known as their male counterparts, but these ladies of the Civil War Era did their part to aide their
respective sides in the war. What these and other women did during the civil war may not seem as
important, but without their skills, knowledge, and actions some of the great battles might have gone
the other way. The Civil War marked a turning point for women and their ... Show more content on

Illinois and The North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was passed in 1993 under President Clinton
but purposed under President H.W. Bush. The agreement was first discussed in June of 1991 and
included the United States, Canada, and Mexico. NAFTA sought to create a trading bloc, which
through free trade and the elimination of tariffs would see economic growth. While all of the
countries sought to benefit from NAFTA the United States and Mexico sought to gain the most,
while each in different ways. The United States would enjoy increased investment opportunities and
greater trade through a new growing market in Mexico. Mexico on the other ... Show more content

Because of this divide NAFTA was often thought of in short–term effect on the constituents
employment rather then the long–term possibilities. This can be seen through the difference in the
votes of the Senators, both of whom voted in favor of NAFTA while the Representatives were
divided. Curiously the majority of the opposition came from Democratic Representatives from
Chicago, which provide the best perspective into the opposition of NAFTA.
While all of the Republicans representing Illinois voted in favor of NAFTA, not all Democrats voted
along party lines, with both senators voting in support. This will provide the best insight into the
principles behind their choices and how they were benefitting their voters. Congresswomen Evans
of Rock Island openly comments about how she is greatly opposed NAFTA saying "The good–
paying jobs that are the basis of our industrial might . . . would be severely undermined " (Hazard,
1993). Representative Thomas Ewing of Pontiac sees things a little differently, believing that if the
tariffs are removed and there is greater exportation, naturally there will be more jobs and
employment. Ewing however acknowledges the influence that the Labor Unions have saying, ""If
labor 's right, we shouldn 't have NAFTA." Ewing voted for NAFTA, ultimately deciding that the
overall gains would outweigh some of the job loss (Hazard, 1993). One

Essay on New Albany Shale
Illinois Basin Structure
The Illinois Basin lies across Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, and it has a oval like structural
depression in southeastern Illinois. The Illinois Basin is classified as an intracratonic basin (Bois and
Pelet 1982). The Illinois Basin began as a rift complex which eventually failed, the New Madrid
fault is associated with this rifting (Hasenmueller and Comer 1994). The depositional thickness of
the New Albany Shale was strongly affected by the regional down–warping in southeastern Illinois
(Lineback 1980). The Illinois basin is separated from the Michigan basin by the Kankakee arch,
which is located primarily in Indiana (Nelson 1995). To the South East lies the Cincinnati arch

Race Relations Speech
On January 10th, 2017, Barack Obama – the 44th President of the United States – gave his farewell
speech in the nontraditional city of Chicago, Illinois. Out of the many brilliant quotes drawn from
his speech, one really catered to a phenomena sweeping the nation at this very moment in time: race
relations. On that brisk Tuesday evening, Obama claimed that "...race relations are better today. All
of us have more work to do in the area of race relations. Hearts must change to stop discrimination."
As a country, we have made substantial progress and are at a good point in terms of race relations;
however, there is still much ground to cover to fulfill the dreams of American heroes like Obama or
Martin Luther King Jr.: peace and equality. Race relations in America have not been – and may not
ever be – as ideal as we desire, but if we seek to mobilize and continue fighting, equality may finally
come into the framework of America.
The issue of racial superiority/inferiority began nearly 400 years ago; in the year 1619, the first
African American indentured servant was brought to what is now America. Even after slavery was
abolished; with legislation – The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and The Voting Rights Act of 1965 – and
Supreme Court rulings – Brown v. Board of Education (1954) – passed to help African–Americans
appreciate the many rights they'd deserved, it would appear that America was moving toward an era
of unprecedented progressiveness ("African American History Timeline"). Finally, with the election
of Barack Obama, it seemed that the goal of the African American community had finally been
achieved: after years of persistent oppression, we finally have representation at the highest power.
While this seemed to be the case with his initial election, we slowly came to see that Obama's
representation may not have been as effective as we anticipated.
With the election of Barack Hussein Obama, our nation's first African–American president, a sense
of liberation swept across the African–American community, as they finally have someone in power
who can genuinely speak about issues plaguing their subpopulation. Hopes were high for Obama;
quite frankly, "colored parents everywhere were [finally] able to tell their

Reality Is A Hard Trail
Reality is a hard trail that everyone in the world has to face. Reality comes with many aspects that
are constantly changing and that can be confusing or scary to many people. Coming to terms with
reality is difficult sometimes but, no one must shy from aspects of reality for that reason. If they
were to shy away and hide themselves from knowledge or experience then they will never be able to
overcome their conflictions with the issue. In order to grow, people have to properly come to
understand and face harsh realities. There are no safe spaces or trigger warnings in most places of
the world. That's the lesson that the incoming students of University of Chicago, whom may expect
the inclusion of 'trigger warning' and 'safe spaces' into the education system, need to understand. A
safe space is an area located anywhere, where anyone can escape from things they find harmful,
such as controversial topics or different ideals. They are also able to fully express themselves,
without having to worry about being uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe. A trigger warning is an
essentially a warning that the presented content through verbal or visual means, may be considered
disturbing or upsetting to many. Some students of Chicago University may think that their school is
in need of these concepts in order to protect themselves however the University has rejected the idea
in a letter they sent, on the basis that it could prove harmful to their academic freedom. The

elections and collective action. Super PACs are a new kind of committee that operates politically. As
reported by opensecrets.org, Super PACs acquire any amount of donated money in a phenomenon
that aggregates towards a fund "to advocate for or against political candidates and must report their
donors to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly or quarterly basis". They are not allowed

Interested in learning about what takes place behind the scenes of a Super PAC? Well, here is the
story of the Presidential election of 2012 from my perspective: as a Director of IT operations of the
"Priorities USAAction" Super PAC.
The Priorities USAAction Super PAC is the largest liberal Super PAC. We raised $79,050,419
during Obama's campaign for re–election. We spent most of the money opposing the Republican
candidate Mitt Romney in 2012. The position of Director of IT operations was a huge step in my
career path, having just gotten out of an internship and right out of college. I was psyched to have
been given such a great opportunity, and I was not going to let the Super PAC down. I worked long
and hard with the rest of the Super Pac to produce advertisements for television stations, and worked
with several social media outlets in order to advertise for President Barack Obama and against Mitt
Romney
Some say that Super PACs are immoral and unjust; however, Super PACs abide by the First
Amendment. In the Supreme court case "Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission", it was
decided that the government is not legally allowed to prohibit the expenditures for political
campaigns; as long as they are not corrupt and are not lying to the general public or affluent
attributes about where the money is really going i.e. their own pockets or towards another or
opposing fund. It is fair since candidates are not

Dorothea Dix: The One who Pursued Her Life-Long Dreams
Dorothea Dix, The One Who Pursued Her Life–Long Dreams
Do you know what Dorothea Dix did to make this world a better place? Dorothea Dix assured the
lives of the Union Army and the mentally ill, through hard–work and overcoming obstacles. As a
kind and thoughtful person, Dix reserved a portion of her life towards the mentally ill. With time,
another door opened leading her to another accomplishment, being Superintendent of Nurses. As
superintendent, Dix chose and trained many nursed to assist her and take their job as seriously as she
did.Over a course of time, Dorothea Dix showed that women could fulfill the duty of many difficult
tasks.
Dorothea Dix's journey started when she use to teach Sunday school in prisons. That's when she
realized how prisoners were being treated and she wanted to change that. She was dissappointed at
how harshly and abusively the prisoners were being cared for. What she did not think was fair was
that prisoners were actually mentally ill and were in prison and not in asylums. She pushed and
pushed for improvements for getting them out of prison and placing them in hospitals. She ended up
building hospitals for the ill in 32 out of all 50 states, which was a great amount. After spending
many years improving the lives of the prisoners, she went to serve as a nurse in the Civil War. Once
the war was finished, she went straight back to solving issues for the mentally ill. She contined to

The Issue Of A Constitutional Convention
Danny Chasteen and Susan Rick thought that they had finally gotten their big break when they won
$250,000 from the Illinois lottery. But, because the Illinois budget had not passed, they received
nothing but a cold promise. No, the lottery situation is not the most pressing problem facing our
government, it is merely a trivial outgrowth of a bigger problem: political gridlock in the state
legislature. A large majority of the citizens of Illinois are exasperated with the government, and they
have the right to be, but a Constitutional Convention is not going to fix any of our problems. Every
state has its own dilemmas, and these issues can be solved through the everyday political process. A
Constitutional Convention is simply not necessary, when the Constitution itself is not what is
holding back the Illinois State government.
What could possibly be the purpose of a Constitutional Convention? Is it to change provisions on
the state budget, income tax, or even school funding? All of these subjects can be focused on
individually, and changed through the already present amendment procedures. In fact most of the
Constitution itself can be changed through this existing political process. The Constitution is a living
breathing document that is meant to change as its environment changes, which is the specific
purpose of amendments. Each provision should be dealt with individually, so as to bring more
attention to that specific problem. For instance, school budgeting or pension reform

High School Sports Module Analysis
Do you ever, as an athlete, parent, or fan of Iowa high school sports, want to watch the state high
school sporting events? Because it is well known that the northwest corner of Iowa tends to field the
better sports teams and athletes of the state, typically there is usually quite a few teams representing
the area during the state tournament. When a local team or athlete makes it to state, a group of
people will either go and watch in person, or try to see if the event is being broadcasted on
television. Often the people that can't make the trip to watch in person, like local people, family
members, or even high school athletes themselves, will check if it is on television (Byers 1). Starting

That's a question I'm sure many people had over the football, wrestling, and basketball state
tournament championships. I'll go into more detail about the CSN Chicago deal with the help of my
interview with Scott Byers. In order to watch the channel CSN Chicago, you need to either live in
the area that your local cable company offers it, or have Dish Network or DirecTV. Like I said
earlier, about 90% of the area that does offer the channel is in the eastern part of Iowa. So if you live
on the western side, and don't have either Dish Network or DirecTV, you are basically out of luck.
The local cable companies could get CSN Chicago into their package but with Northwest Iowa so
far away from Chicago, almost none in this area do. It makes sense not to get the channel only if you
want it to watch IHSAA state events. Scott Byers asked the head of the local cable company in
Sioux Center about it and he said picking up CSN Chicago for three years would cost his company
well over a million dollars. Instead of people on the Eastern side of Iowa, the Northwest Iowa
people get to watch Fox Sports North which shows the Minnesota teams like the Twins and
Timberwolves. Next, people might wonder if this really has to go on for the full three years. Well, I
found that answer too in my interview. Scott said, "Most contracts can be broken, but it becomes a
legal matter at that point and will cost whatever the lawyers come up with in negotiations.

Mr. Bush also achieved many of his domestic policy goals; one of the goals is tax breaks that mostly
benefited the richest Americans. Later on, President Obama has expended the executive power in a
lot of ways, largely at the power of legislative branch, for worse and better. He has refused to
execute the long–established U.S. immigration laws throughout his presidency. For example, there
are a lot of captured illegal aliens, who were awaiting deportation. However, President Obama
stopped these deportations and ordered the U.S. border patrol to release the illegal aliens in violation
of law and without explanation. Moreover, President Obama 's unconstitutional attack on Second

religious freedom and Christians by issuing a mandate that all health insurance plans must include
coverage for abortion–inducing drugs. This has unconstitutional assault on the protections for

The Worst Flood Of The Mississippi River Basin
In 1993, the Midwest experienced the worst flood in American history affecting ten states in the
Upper Mississippi River basin. The flooding lasted from late spring to fall, killing fifty–two people
and damaging a 100,000 homes and businesses. The cause of the flooding was a heavy winter with
lots of snow and a spring season full of rain, which saturated the soil. Instead, of a hot summer, the
rain kept coming and the Upper Mississippi River Basin received three and a half times its normal
rain. Since it continuously rained, the water levels kept rising and many of the levees broke. The
water levels stayed high for weeks destroying towns and agriculture all throughout the Midwest.
One of the main issues leading up to the flood of 1993 was the failed communication and
partnership between local, state, and federal governments. The federal government is in charge of
floodplain management instead of the local and state government, which prevents local governments
becoming involved. This form of management flaw became revealed by the amount of damage the
flood made. The reason the damage was so devastating and so many people lost their homes and
businesses is because the federal government failed to understand the Executive Order of 1977 and
permitted building in the flood plains. Some examples of the EO being understood are "a low–
income housing project funded by HUD and a federally funded state prison within floodplains, and a
proposed construction of a federal weather

Leader Persuasion
How persuasive can one be, how much power can one achieve with words? Successful leaders of
different time periods and different categories possess the ability to use words effectively to lead
through the power of persuasion. Whether in a Business, political, or religious leadership positions,
successful leaders utilize and capitalize on the needs and wants of their followers through persuasive
word choice High level persons are persuasive; they have to be. Powerful speakers such as Adolf
Hitler, Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Barack Obama all have something in common; they all

King appealed to his followers through personalization, utilizing words such as self–sufficient,
independent, and unique. He appealed to one's self–perception and identity. Brain based research has
shown that this type of personalization through the use of the word "you" activates attention in the
brain where individuals make judgements about themselves and others related to personal qualities.
King made people want to posses the same personal qualities. With a further analysis of Martin
Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream speech", which was delivered in front of the Lincoln Memorial. In
the second paragraph King starts off with "Five score years ago..." referring to Lincoln's famous
Gettysburg Address which began "Four score and seven years ago". King uses a technique called
"anaphora" which is the process of repeating words at the beginning of neighboring clauses. When
repeating words it sets a pattern, with further repetition it emphasizes the pattern even more which
increases the rhetorical effect. Emphasis through repetition makes phrases more memorable, and, by
extension, make King's story more memorable. Another thing King did was to repeat the key theme,
King's most frequent word he used was "freedom" which was said twenty times. This would make
sense because freedom is the primary theme of the speech. Through out King's speech he says "we"
thirty times so the people listening would feel as

The 2016 General Election : Personal Analysis Of The 2016...
My first week on the campaign (early September), I received instruction on petition data entry. I was
also trained to use VoteBuilder, which is software that streamlined voter outreach. Unfortunately,
this first week on the campaign was cut short because of a disagreement between Biss and his then
running mate, Carlos Ramirez Rosa. The campaign could no longer collect petition signatures until
Biss selected a new running mate, so the staff was given the rest of the week off. This created some
division between supporters, similar to that observed during the 2016 General Election in regards to
the Bernie/Hillary voters. I did not run into many people familiar with the situation here in Macomb,
however I preferred to inform them myself as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is what I chose to do when collecting signatures in Macomb. I was able to talk to a WIU staff
member about Big Ag, which was an easy segway into talking about the campaign. I was surprised
by the number of people I was able to reach just by treating them as people. It would have been
really easy to dismiss those who voted for a candidate I dislike. However, there is plenty of common
ground between the average Americans. Clinton's neglect of rural voters and rural issues played a
part in the loss of the 2016 General Election, notably losing the Midwestern states of Iowa and
Ohio. Pat Quinn's gubernatorial loss in 2014 was by a close margin, only three counties different
than his win in 2010 (Illinois Board of Elections). So, it's clear that Illinois' gubernatorial candidates
have to win more than just Cook County (and the same applies to the Democratic primary, of
course). I knew that my challenge was different than the Organizing Fellows in the Chicago area,
but campaigning from the Quad Cities to Springfield (and in between!) isn't any less valuable. An
important part of being a field organizer in such a large area was social media. So crucial that the
Biss campaign provided an entire training session on the use of social media for outreach. I was put

The Financial Responsibility Of Higher Education
Two years ago, I comfortable raced through the last months of my High School career. However,
apart from imperatively aiming my attention over my studies, I unwittingly turned the rest of my
focus on fiddling matters, which haplessly settled into habits. Instead of reading a book, I settled for
a movie; instead of improving my tennis abilities, I watched others improve theirs; instead of taking
a full night's sleep, I harped my guitar's strings through the night.
As a longed spring often passes, graduation swiftly came and just as swiftly went. I began McHenry
County College with my head raised egotistically high, breezing by the first few weeks of my
courses. I, however, came to learn of the financial responsibility of higher education. With an older
brother transferring to the financially demanding Loyola University in Chicago, I decided to take
my less expensive tuition of my parents' shoulders.
I quickly searched for a job, and soon landed one at Covidien (which has recently merged with
Medtronic). Covidien, a factory–based medical device manufacturer, became my first job. In the
light of my new position, I was faced with many challenges. First, Covidien required labor–
intensive work, work that I had never experienced before, work that nearly broke me my first week.
Second, at that time Covidien only required tenders for their 12–hour night crew, working 36 hours
one week and 48 hours the next. The third and most painstaking task I decided to face was to

Bus Service Is The Most Common Vision
Bus service is the most common vision that comes to mind when one thinks about Urban Public
transportation. The Bloomington– Normal area uses Connect Transit, which has multiple buses and
routes throughout the area. Although the Connect Transit system is very helpful for most students,
allowing us to go to the mall with friends, visit target for food and 'needed' items, or visiting the
downtown, it can also prove to be extremely difficult and stressful for people who would have to
rely everyday on it. After riding the bus for more than an hour, making two transfers along the way
and visiting multiple neighborhoods, I came to realize why a stigma regarding public transportation
exists. "Public transit situates is so that we are given license to accept what's right in front of us, but
will likely arouse our desire to compare our narrative to someone else's, to give ourselves
permission to speculate upon a person's private space, or life, with no fear of recourse or
punishment" (Wilson, 2012). In order to view the barriers that low– income people face on a daily
basis when it comes to riding the bus, I rode the available public transportation, allowing for
detailed observation.
I arrived at the Normal Uptown Station at 4:50, prepared to take the Orange H bus through Normal,
to Eastland mall. I knew that the bus would be arriving at 55 minutes past the hour, so I looked up

Republicans presidential nominees while Donald Trump was running against Ted Cruz. No matter
how the Republican Presidential primary unfolds from here all the party operatives are after him.
Since March, Donald Trump has been the only candidate that was on a path to winning the majority

Harvard Law School, promising to return to these same streets. After being elected the first African–
American president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama could have turned his academic success
into a six–figure job with a prestigious law firm.
Instead he chose to keep his promise. He returned to Chicago in 1991 where he joined a small civil

Obama's Foreign Policy on China Essay
President Barack Obama and his administration's foreign policy toward China can be summed up in
one word: conciliatory. Conciliatory is not in the form of any weakness or appeasement, but rather
the realization that in the 21st century global market, China is a main player on the world stage.
Obama's foreign policies are a departure from the previous administration. George Bush's unilateral
foreign policies were deemed domineering, even belligerent. From an international standpoint, Anti–
American sentiments were at an all–time high during Iraqi War driven years. In America, the
domestic stance after 9/11 saw this as an extension of patriotism and commitment. Nowadays, both

This is a double–edge sword that does not have an easy solution so I understand both sides and that
no country is living in a vacuum. There are a quite a bit of complexities and consequences to
consider and I believe there will be a mutual success in this issue. Concerning Human Capital, the
Obama Administration has also pressed hard to improve the human rights issues in China in terms of
economic policies to benefit workers and their family situations. Historically, having the highest
population at a staggering figure of over $1.3 billion people, the human labor supply is more than
available at any given moment. Thus, United States especially has outsourced countless
manufacturing companies and jobs to China. This reality the President clearly stated will not change

the United States has laws to deal with this issues so the criticism is being put in a way not to

America Imagine The World Without Her Essay
There are many documentaries about America, one particular documentary has been written by Mr.
Dinesh D'Souza, and it is called: "America: Imagine the World Without Her." His inclination in
favor of conservative sparks a variety of opinions in America society that shows indignity, empathy,
and awareness in the audience. Although I disagree that the Affordable Care Plan as a masterpiece of
extortion for the American people.
It is clear that Mr. Danish D'Souza bias is against the government in the documentary "America
Imagine the World Without Her." First, he linked Saul Alinsky with President Barack Obama in
regard of the Obama Care plan; Saul Alinsky was a Jewish American community organizer and
writer who was a radical from the left ideology. Mr. D'Souza argued that Saul Alinsky had three
strategies "Polarization, Demonization, and Deception" which the President Barack Obama used in
the "Affordable Care Act," and he pointed out that "Affordable Care Act" is a masterpiece of
extortion and distortion; to be specific, he added "Obama gives the impression that he is colluding
with us against the insurance companies, but in reality, he is colluding with the insurance companies
against us." Basically means that the President Barack Obama is conspiring with the insurance
companies to make profit and force Americans to buy insurance. He claimed that Obama is forcing
American to buy insurance they do not want to buy.

President Abraham Lincoln and Walt Whitman
President Abraham Lincoln, admired by Walt Whitman, blossomed in "Whitman's writing and in
American mythology"(Eiselein) for his leadership and nobility. Whitman hoped for a rugged,
healthy, who knew what real, physical work was, to be the "[r]edeemer [p]resident of [t]hese
[s]tates"(Whitman). His hopes came true "as in a dream"(Whitman) when "four years later, just such
a beard–faced boatman"(Goodheart) entered the White House. Walt Whitman discovered the
"comprehensive, all–directing soul he had long been seeking"(Reynolds) in Abraham Lincoln's life.
Therefore Whitman, a patriotic American, would see Lincoln's death as not only a grave tragedy but
also a "promise [of] ultimate purgation and unification for America."(Reynolds).
Dedicating countless hours to the war and politics before President Lincoln's death, Whitman
strained to restore the Union as a whole. Feeling obligated to participate in the war effort, Whitman
secured a government position making "regular visit[s] [to] soldiers in war hospitals"(Constantkis).
Whitman also participated in the Free Soil Party, a rising opposition to the progression and spread of
slavery, and wrote political commentaries in his effort to strengthen the Union. These undertakings
not only aided the Union, but also brought Whitman closer to his idol, Lincoln, who also wanted to
preserve the Union. Devastated by the assassination of President Lincoln, Walt Whitman wrote "O

Pekin Municipal Airport Bridge Case Study

  • 1. Pekin Municipal Airport Bridge Case Study All these strategies developed trust between Mr. Clayton and his staff accomplished his projects through collaboration and cooperation. When performing his duties, he guided himself by Mark Twain's principle, which says, "if you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything." Further Mr. Clayton stated that he used collaborative approach as a manager and identified himself as a transformational leader. Leadership style components as identified by me and related to readings. According to the circumstances that were prevailing when Mr. Clayton became the Airport Manager, due to the financial constraints (due economic issues and budget impasse), I consider Mr. Clayton as an adaptive leader. Implementing so many technical issues that necessitated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clayton stated that there are no people of color and women on his staff at Pekin Municipal Airport. Furthermore, he pointed out that there are no people of color and women in the airport board, but they are certainly there on other Boards/Committees throughout the City. The airport does not have a diversity program/initiative; however, the City Human Resource Officer did provide self–training information on the subject. Even though the airport does not have a diversity policy, the airport participates in Federal/State capital improvement programs with diversity policies built in (e.g. DBE program). For example, he participated in diversity education/training as a city employee through community programs. Asked whether the airport prepares/trains new staff to work with people of color and women, he said the airport does not provide such training. Furthermore, he pointed out that the airport does not have a policy or program meant to retain people of color and women. Other city divisions seem to have a decent mix of diversity. As a Millennial, Mr. Clayton pointed out that sometimes it was difficult dealing with the city policymakers because of age difference, however, they sometimes gave him a seat at the table to air his ... • 5. The Debt Ceiling: Why it Hurts America Essay The Debt Ceiling: Why it Hurts America In 1917, the United States Congress applied the concept of a "debt ceiling". Prior to 1917, Congress had to directly authorize the amount of each borrowing. The debt ceiling was put in place to provide more flexibility to finance the US involvement in World War I. After the application of the debt ceiling, the United States Treasury could borrow any amount needed as long as it keeps the total at or below the authorized ceiling. I believe a debt ceiling is a very necessary component of American politics as long as it is used correctly; however, it has been abused by frequent increases, and should be monitored more effectively. On August 2nd, 2011, the date estimated by the Department of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our government did not make the right move, and we will all see the consequences of it in the long run. Instead of raising the debt ceiling to around $15.4 Trillion dollars, Mr. Obama should have placed at least the same amount of spending cuts as the proposed raised debt ceiling, if not more. The debt ceiling debate really comes down to your individual view on fiscal economics. If a person follows the general conservative view they recognize the fact that a government can only spend as much as it takes in. A liberal point of view would see a country's spending as a necessary part of keeping a functioning society, and that debt is a side affect of this process. If a country continues to build insurmountable debt, an individual or business is less likely to invest in that country's bonds or economy in general because they may worry about whether they will be able to cash out and get their money. This depreciation in investor confidence could eventually lead to a drop in the country's credit rating from the major financial institutions. A drop in credit rating for a country's bonds shows an overall lack of stability for that country. A decrease in investments in bonds and stocks for a country can hurt GDP and eventually send the country into a recession due to the governments inability to run efficiently. Although some people may be liberal in all political issues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Community Health Status Assessment ( Chsa ) The Community Health Status Assessment (CHSA) is one phase of MAPP process. It identifies how healthy the residents in Champaign's County Illinois are, and what is the current health status of the community. CHSA also detects the quality of life of the population within the community (National Association of County & City Health Officials, 2014). From data of this phase of MAPP process, Champaign County Illinois could understand where they are in comparison to the State of Illinois and the nation. CHSA data includes death rates, birth rates, the top–ranked communicable disease in this region, behavioral risk factors, violent and injury crimes rates, and other social determinants may affect the health of the people in the community (National Association of County & City Health Officials, 2014). Definition of health as in this assessment is taken from the World Health Organization; a state of complete mental, physical and social wellbeing and doesn't mean disease free or disability and the indicators have analyzed here support this philosophy (Carole Community Health Needs Assessments, 2014). Interpretation of the indicators proposed by Medicine Institute in the county, through comparison them with data from other communities and the data from the nation all can help knowledge the health issues that require focusing on within Champaign County. • 13. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Spoon River ' Small town life is in many places. You may not see it, but its everywhere. Newport, Vermont is an example of small town life. Newport has one small hospital, one church, no mall, many small shops, and one small movie theater. The small town life written in on the epitaphs in Edger Lee Masters Spoon River Anthology accurately reflects small town life in Newport, Vermont. Edgar Lee Masters was a poet and a novelist. He was born on August 23,1868 in Garnett, Kansas. His parents are Hardin Wallace Masters and Emma J. Dexter. Masters grew up on his grandmother?s farm in Illinois. After growing up on his grandmother?s farm, he became a lawyer in Chicago. He died March 5,1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Spoon River Anthology is made up of 244 epitaph poems. The epitaphs are fictional people from a fictional town. The poems are written in free–verse. Free–verse is when a poet uses no pattern to the poem. When Masters started the Spoon River Anthology, he ?began to contribute his Spoon River epitaphs to Reedy?s Mirror in the spring of 1914.? (Flanagan, John 21) Before this Masters never received recognition for his work. In 1915 the Spoon River Anthology was published . It ?captured him into fame and began a critical discussion of his poetry witch raged unabated for several decades.? (Flanagan 21) After this Edger Lee Masters became almost immediately a towering figure in the New American poetry. People were writing articles in various periodicals entitled Masters and ... • 17. Argumentative Synthesis Of President Obama Gaibrielle Ruggs Mrs. Yessick ENG 101 16 November 2015 Argumentative Synthesis President Barack Hussein Obama was the forty fourth president elected into office in 2008 and the first United States president, under the constitution, of African descent. He has worked his way up from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate then officially sworn in as president on January 20, 2009. Considering his background in politics, logically, he should be a responsible, trustworthy candidate for president yet that does not stand for his mentality of how to run a country. He has portrayed himself as a person of significance by supporting the same sex marriage law, preventing the unnecessary travel of oil and petroleum, and fighting for paid leave for company employees; nevertheless, he has caused grief to appear in the families of war participants. Conversely, pre presidency, Obama promised to end the war of American troops fighting in Afghanistan in the year 2014, he promised to direct revenues from oil drills to increase coastal protection, he also promised to become a person who unites the American people; however, has this so called "president" kept any of those promises or have they long been abandoned? As Barack Obama 's second term comes to an end, it is apparent that Obama is one of the most hypocritical presidents in American history. On Friday, November 6, 2015, President Obama refused an agreement with a Canadian oil company about building the Keystone XL oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Current State of the Union; Analysis of a Political... When describing the current state of the USA, very little positive language would be used. The more standard response would be one including an overall negative, and debt describing language. As seen in Barrack Obama's 2014 State of the Union Address, the president of our nation seemed to completely disregard the actual "state" of the union by simply stating that, "The state of the union is sound". This short, vague, and contradicting statement seemed to be blow up the anemic progressions our nation has made during Obamas presidency. It is safe to say that the description of a "sound" nation did not make a connection with many Americans. It left people with more of a sense of confusion to what the actual situation stands to be. That situation, the current state of our union, would more appropriately be described as upsetting. Especially when being described by the current president of over five years who promised to better our nation. Gary McCoy's drawing depicts the not so serious response to Barack Obama's humorous statement to the current state of the union, and poses the argument that his remarks no longer send a sense of promise and hope, but more of something to just roll your eyes at. In the cartoon, President Barack Obama is presented in a stereotypical and degrading way. He is drawn to have a very prominent round nose, and much emphasis is placed on his very "large ears". With this, he is also depicted with a tiny head, potentially hinting at a small brain. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Being A Tough Climb By Adam Lambert Adam Lambert says, "Being different is always going to be a tough climb." What do the stories from the Pixar people tell us about what it is like to be a kid and be on that "tough climb?" Pixar people is trying to tell us that being different is okay and if you stay true, strong, and loyal to yourself and you will create happiness and self esteem within yourself. They explained how being gay and coming out was extremely difficult but no matter how hard things may seem things will get better if you start thinking about the future and not just the things that are happening now. Everyone in life goes through some type of struggles in life and there is always someone in the world that is experiencing the same things that you are What can we do to help the kids who are "different," for whatever reason? How can we help them feel less alone? We can talk to them and tell them that being different is what makes them who they are. I would also explain to them that being strong and realizing that not everyone in the world accepts people who are different but then there are those who do. That is why they must befriend people who are similar to them and accepts them for who they are. Because changing themselves for the sake of others will not contribute to their happiness. I think that letting kids know that are loved and that you there for them when things are difficult in life gives them the feeling of support. And this is what a child needs in order to stay strong and think positive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These names are synonymous with great generals who fought great battles during the war, but what about Sarah Emma Edmonds, Clara Burton, Dorthea Dix, Rose O'Neal Greenhow, and Loreta Janeta Velazquez? These names are not as known as their male counterparts, but these ladies of the Civil War Era did their part to aide their respective sides in the war. What these and other women did during the civil war may not seem as important, but without their skills, knowledge, and actions some of the great battles might have gone the other way. The North American Free Trade Agreement Patrick Kenney A43713662 EC 440 Writing Assignment Illinois and The North American Free Trade Agreement The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was passed in 1993 under President Clinton but purposed under President H.W. Bush. The agreement was first discussed in June of 1991 and included the United States, Canada, and Mexico. NAFTA sought to create a trading bloc, which through free trade and the elimination of tariffs would see economic growth. While all of the countries sought to benefit from NAFTA the United States and Mexico sought to gain the most, while each in different ways. Because of this divide NAFTA was often thought of in short–term effect on the constituents employment rather then the long–term possibilities. This can be seen through the difference in the votes of the Senators, both of whom voted in favor of NAFTA while the Representatives were divided. Curiously the majority of the opposition came from Democratic Representatives from Chicago, which provide the best perspective into the opposition of NAFTA. While all of the Republicans representing Illinois voted in favor of NAFTA, not all Democrats voted along party lines, with both senators voting in support. This will provide the best insight into the principles behind their choices and how they were benefitting their voters. Congresswomen Evans of Rock Island openly comments about how she is greatly opposed NAFTA saying "The good– paying jobs that are the basis of our industrial might . . . would be severely undermined " (Hazard, 1993). Representative Thomas Ewing of Pontiac sees things a little differently, believing that if the tariffs are removed and there is greater exportation, naturally there will be more jobs and employment. Ewing however acknowledges the influence that the Labor Unions have saying, ""If labor 's right, we shouldn 't have NAFTA." Ewing voted for NAFTA, ultimately deciding that the overall gains would outweigh some of the job loss (Hazard, 1993). One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Illinois Basin is classified as an intracratonic basin (Bois and Pelet 1982). The Illinois Basin began as a rift complex which eventually failed, the New Madrid fault is associated with this rifting (Hasenmueller and Comer 1994). The depositional thickness of the New Albany Shale was strongly affected by the regional down–warping in southeastern Illinois (Lineback 1980). • 46. Race Relations Speech On January 10th, 2017, Barack Obama – the 44th President of the United States – gave his farewell speech in the nontraditional city of Chicago, Illinois. Out of the many brilliant quotes drawn from his speech, one really catered to a phenomena sweeping the nation at this very moment in time: race relations. On that brisk Tuesday evening, Obama claimed that "...race relations are better today. All of us have more work to do in the area of race relations. Hearts must change to stop discrimination." As a country, we have made substantial progress and are at a good point in terms of race relations; however, there is still much ground to cover to fulfill the dreams of American heroes like Obama or Martin Luther King Jr.: peace and equality. Race relations in America have not been – and may not ever be – as ideal as we desire, but if we seek to mobilize and continue fighting, equality may finally come into the framework of America. The issue of racial superiority/inferiority began nearly 400 years ago; in the year 1619, the first African American indentured servant was brought to what is now America. Even after slavery was abolished; with legislation – The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and The Voting Rights Act of 1965 – and Supreme Court rulings – Brown v. Board of Education (1954) – passed to help African–Americans appreciate the many rights they'd deserved, it would appear that America was moving toward an era of unprecedented progressiveness ("African American History Timeline"). Finally, with the election of Barack Obama, it seemed that the goal of the African American community had finally been achieved: after years of persistent oppression, we finally have representation at the highest power. While this seemed to be the case with his initial election, we slowly came to see that Obama's representation may not have been as effective as we anticipated. With the election of Barack Hussein Obama, our nation's first African–American president, a sense of liberation swept across the African–American community, as they finally have someone in power who can genuinely speak about issues plaguing their subpopulation. Hopes were high for Obama; quite frankly, "colored parents everywhere were [finally] able to tell their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reality comes with many aspects that are constantly changing and that can be confusing or scary to many people. Coming to terms with reality is difficult sometimes but, no one must shy from aspects of reality for that reason. If they were to shy away and hide themselves from knowledge or experience then they will never be able to overcome their conflictions with the issue. In order to grow, people have to properly come to understand and face harsh realities. There are no safe spaces or trigger warnings in most places of the world. That's the lesson that the incoming students of University of Chicago, whom may expect the inclusion of 'trigger warning' and 'safe spaces' into the education system, need to understand. A safe space is an area located anywhere, where anyone can escape from things they find harmful, such as controversial topics or different ideals. They are also able to fully express themselves, without having to worry about being uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe. A trigger warning is an essentially a warning that the presented content through verbal or visual means, may be considered disturbing or upsetting to many. Some students of Chicago University may think that their school is in need of these concepts in order to protect themselves however the University has rejected the idea in a letter they sent, on the basis that it could prove harmful to their academic freedom. Brianna Goodman Proliferated in 2010, Super PACs have played an immensely influential role in the outcomes of elections and collective action. Super PACs are a new kind of committee that operates politically. As reported by opensecrets.org, Super PACs acquire any amount of donated money in a phenomenon that aggregates towards a fund "to advocate for or against political candidates and must report their donors to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly or quarterly basis". Well, here is the story of the Presidential election of 2012 from my perspective: as a Director of IT operations of the "Priorities USAAction" Super PAC. The Priorities USAAction Super PAC is the largest liberal Super PAC. We raised $79,050,419 during Obama's campaign for re–election. We spent most of the money opposing the Republican candidate Mitt Romney in 2012. The position of Director of IT operations was a huge step in my career path, having just gotten out of an internship and right out of college. I was psyched to have been given such a great opportunity, and I was not going to let the Super PAC down. Federal Election Commission", it was decided that the government is not legally allowed to prohibit the expenditures for political campaigns; as long as they are not corrupt and are not lying to the general public or affluent attributes about where the money is really going i.e. their own pockets or towards another or opposing fund. • 58. Dorothea Dix: The One who Pursued Her Life-Long Dreams Dorothea Dix, The One Who Pursued Her Life–Long Dreams Do you know what Dorothea Dix did to make this world a better place? Dorothea Dix assured the lives of the Union Army and the mentally ill, through hard–work and overcoming obstacles. As a kind and thoughtful person, Dix reserved a portion of her life towards the mentally ill. With time, another door opened leading her to another accomplishment, being Superintendent of Nurses. As superintendent, Dix chose and trained many nursed to assist her and take their job as seriously as she did.Over a course of time, Dorothea Dix showed that women could fulfill the duty of many difficult tasks. Dorothea Dix's journey started when she use to teach Sunday school in prisons. That's when she realized how prisoners were being treated and she wanted to change that. She was dissappointed at how harshly and abusively the prisoners were being cared for. What she did not think was fair was that prisoners were actually mentally ill and were in prison and not in asylums. She pushed and pushed for improvements for getting them out of prison and placing them in hospitals. She ended up building hospitals for the ill in 32 out of all 50 states, which was a great amount. After spending many years improving the lives of the prisoners, she went to serve as a nurse in the Civil War. Once the war was finished, she went straight back to solving issues for the mentally ill. She contined to help her community until she passed away. Her passing was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. The Issue Of A Constitutional Convention Danny Chasteen and Susan Rick thought that they had finally gotten their big break when they won $250,000 from the Illinois lottery. But, because the Illinois budget had not passed, they received nothing but a cold promise. No, the lottery situation is not the most pressing problem facing our government, it is merely a trivial outgrowth of a bigger problem: political gridlock in the state legislature. A large majority of the citizens of Illinois are exasperated with the government, and they have the right to be, but a Constitutional Convention is not going to fix any of our problems. Every state has its own dilemmas, and these issues can be solved through the everyday political process. A Constitutional Convention is simply not necessary, when the Constitution itself is not what is holding back the Illinois State government. What could possibly be the purpose of a Constitutional Convention? Is it to change provisions on the state budget, income tax, or even school funding? All of these subjects can be focused on individually, and changed through the already present amendment procedures. In fact most of the Constitution itself can be changed through this existing political process. The Constitution is a living breathing document that is meant to change as its environment changes, which is the specific purpose of amendments. Each provision should be dealt with individually, so as to bring more attention to that specific problem. For instance, school budgeting or pension reform ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because it is well known that the northwest corner of Iowa tends to field the better sports teams and athletes of the state, typically there is usually quite a few teams representing the area during the state tournament. When a local team or athlete makes it to state, a group of people will either go and watch in person, or try to see if the event is being broadcasted on television. Often the people that can't make the trip to watch in person, like local people, family members, or even high school athletes themselves, will check if it is on television (Byers 1). That's a question I'm sure many people had over the football, wrestling, and basketball state tournament championships. I'll go into more detail about the CSN Chicago deal with the help of my interview with Scott Byers. In order to watch the channel CSN Chicago, you need to either live in the area that your local cable company offers it, or have Dish Network or DirecTV. Like I said earlier, about 90% of the area that does offer the channel is in the eastern part of Iowa. So if you live on the western side, and don't have either Dish Network or DirecTV, you are basically out of luck. The local cable companies could get CSN Chicago into their package but with Northwest Iowa so far away from Chicago, almost none in this area do. It makes sense not to get the channel only if you want it to watch IHSAA state events. Scott Byers asked the head of the local cable company in Sioux Center about it and he said picking up CSN Chicago for three years would cost his company well over a million dollars. Instead of people on the Eastern side of Iowa, the Northwest Iowa people get to watch Fox Sports North which shows the Minnesota teams like the Twins and Timberwolves. Next, people might wonder if this really has to go on for the full three years. Well, I found that answer too in my interview. Scott said, "Most contracts can be broken, but it becomes a legal matter at that point and will cost whatever the lawyers come up with in negotiations. Generally, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 82. The Worst Flood Of The Mississippi River Basin In 1993, the Midwest experienced the worst flood in American history affecting ten states in the Upper Mississippi River basin. The flooding lasted from late spring to fall, killing fifty–two people and damaging a 100,000 homes and businesses. The cause of the flooding was a heavy winter with lots of snow and a spring season full of rain, which saturated the soil. Instead, of a hot summer, the rain kept coming and the Upper Mississippi River Basin received three and a half times its normal rain. Since it continuously rained, the water levels kept rising and many of the levees broke. The water levels stayed high for weeks destroying towns and agriculture all throughout the Midwest. One of the main issues leading up to the flood of 1993 was the failed communication and partnership between local, state, and federal governments. The federal government is in charge of floodplain management instead of the local and state government, which prevents local governments becoming involved. This form of management flaw became revealed by the amount of damage the flood made. The reason the damage was so devastating and so many people lost their homes and businesses is because the federal government failed to understand the Executive Order of 1977 and permitted building in the flood plains. Some examples of the EO being understood are "a low– income housing project funded by HUD and a federally funded state prison within floodplains, and a proposed construction of a federal weather ... King appealed to his followers through personalization, utilizing words such as self–sufficient, independent, and unique. He appealed to one's self–perception and identity. Brain based research has shown that this type of personalization through the use of the word "you" activates attention in the brain where individuals make judgements about themselves and others related to personal qualities. King made people want to posses the same personal qualities. With a further analysis of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream speech", which was delivered in front of the Lincoln Memorial. In the second paragraph King starts off with "Five score years ago..." referring to Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address which began "Four score and seven years ago". King uses a technique called "anaphora" which is the process of repeating words at the beginning of neighboring clauses. When repeating words it sets a pattern, with further repetition it emphasizes the pattern even more which increases the rhetorical effect. Emphasis through repetition makes phrases more memorable, and, by extension, make King's story more memorable. Another thing King did was to repeat the key theme, King's most frequent word he used was "freedom" which was said twenty times. This would make sense because freedom is the primary theme of the speech. Through out King's speech he says "we" thirty times so the people listening would feel as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, this first week on the campaign was cut short because of a disagreement between Biss and his then running mate, Carlos Ramirez Rosa. The campaign could no longer collect petition signatures until Biss selected a new running mate, so the staff was given the rest of the week off. That is what I chose to do when collecting signatures in Macomb. I was able to talk to a WIU staff member about Big Ag, which was an easy segway into talking about the campaign. I was surprised by the number of people I was able to reach just by treating them as people. It would have been really easy to dismiss those who voted for a candidate I dislike. However, there is plenty of common ground between the average Americans. Clinton's neglect of rural voters and rural issues played a part in the loss of the 2016 General Election, notably losing the Midwestern states of Iowa and Ohio. Pat Quinn's gubernatorial loss in 2014 was by a close margin, only three counties different than his win in 2010 (Illinois Board of Elections). So, it's clear that Illinois' gubernatorial candidates have to win more than just Cook County (and the same applies to the Democratic primary, of course). I knew that my challenge was different than the Organizing Fellows in the Chicago area, but campaigning from the Quad Cities to Springfield (and in between!) isn't any less valuable. Although the Connect Transit system is very helpful for most students, allowing us to go to the mall with friends, visit target for food and 'needed' items, or visiting the downtown, it can also prove to be extremely difficult and stressful for people who would have to rely everyday on it. After riding the bus for more than an hour, making two transfers along the way and visiting multiple neighborhoods, I came to realize why a stigma regarding public transportation exists. "Public transit situates is so that we are given license to accept what's right in front of us, but will likely arouse our desire to compare our narrative to someone else's, to give ourselves permission to speculate upon a person's private space, or life, with no fear of recourse or punishment" (Wilson, 2012). • 140. Obama's Foreign Policy on China Essay President Barack Obama and his administration's foreign policy toward China can be summed up in one word: conciliatory. Conciliatory is not in the form of any weakness or appeasement, but rather the realization that in the 21st century global market, China is a main player on the world stage. Obama's foreign policies are a departure from the previous administration. George Bush's unilateral foreign policies were deemed domineering, even belligerent. From an international standpoint, Anti– American sentiments were at an all–time high during Iraqi War driven years. In America, the domestic stance after 9/11 saw this as an extension of patriotism and commitment. Nowadays, both domestically and internationally, many pundits would argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a double–edge sword that does not have an easy solution so I understand both sides and that no country is living in a vacuum. There are a quite a bit of complexities and consequences to consider and I believe there will be a mutual success in this issue. Concerning Human Capital, the Obama Administration has also pressed hard to improve the human rights issues in China in terms of economic policies to benefit workers and their family situations. Historically, having the highest population at a staggering figure of over $1.3 billion people, the human labor supply is more than available at any given moment. Thus, United States especially has outsourced countless manufacturing companies and jobs to China. This reality the President clearly stated will not change anytime in the future so this must be an accepted reality. (Ivaneishvili 2012) So, the Obama administration has sharply criticized China for their lack of enforcement and laws to deal with such violations. But, this criticism as the State Department states applies to the United States as well, but the United States has laws to deal with this issues so the criticism is being put in a way not to outfight offend Chinese policies but to encourage an increase in the priority of the Chinese government to follow up actions to remedy the situation (Berg 2012). The State Department also applauded China for the actions that China already has taken to ensure better working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 152. President Abraham Lincoln and Walt Whitman President Abraham Lincoln, admired by Walt Whitman, blossomed in "Whitman's writing and in American mythology"(Eiselein) for his leadership and nobility. Whitman hoped for a rugged, healthy, who knew what real, physical work was, to be the "[r]edeemer [p]resident of [t]hese [s]tates"(Whitman). His hopes came true "as in a dream"(Whitman) when "four years later, just such a beard–faced boatman"(Goodheart) entered the White House. Walt Whitman discovered the "comprehensive, all–directing soul he had long been seeking"(Reynolds) in Abraham Lincoln's life. Therefore Whitman, a patriotic American, would see Lincoln's death as not only a grave tragedy but also a "promise [of] ultimate purgation and unification for America."(Reynolds). Dedicating countless hours to the war and politics before President Lincoln's death, Whitman strained to restore the Union as a whole. Feeling obligated to participate in the war effort, Whitman secured a government position making "regular visit[s] [to] soldiers in war hospitals"(Constantkis). Whitman also participated in the Free Soil Party, a rising opposition to the progression and spread of slavery, and wrote political commentaries in his effort to strengthen the Union. These undertakings not only aided the Union, but also brought Whitman closer to his idol, Lincoln, who also wanted to preserve the Union. Devastated by the assassination of President Lincoln, Walt Whitman wrote "O Captain! My Captain!," "This Dust Was Once the Man," and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
