Life Is The Following Dream
The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams. (Oprah Winfrey) Following
dream is described as the biggest and hardest adventure, and if people work hard, they can reach the
dream. But is it really the truth?People can take the first twenty years of life to chase dream,
however, life if limited, people should do what they need to do at certain age. When people get to 30
years old, having steady jobs is more important than following dream.
People always say that hard working makes people success and there are always examples of how
some people reverse their destinies and become successful. In the book The Alchemist, Santiago, a
young boy follows his passion and find his treasure. During Santiago's journey, he encounters
difficulties, danger and challenges. But he never gives up, so as expected, he is successful. In reality,
Harrison Ford did not start his career until his thirties. J.K. Rowling started writing novels at the age
of 31, and now is the most famous female writer. And Ang Lee, who was a jobless house husband,
but started being a director when he was 31. All the inspirational stories teach people that people
need to have dream, it is never too late and if people work hard enough, he will reach his dream.
However, these stories do not tell people how much they need to sacrifice and how little chance they
become successful.
People in their 30s should not follow dreams because there is no time. The normal retirement age in
the United States is 65 years old, which means, after the year of 65, people cannot really do much.
And normally, people start working after college which is about 22 to 24 years old. So there is only
43 years left. 43 years is almost half of a person's life, so there is no time for people to waste. And
not only one's own time, as well as his family and friends. When people step in the age of 30, or
even earlier, they start to form their own families. And start to take more responsibilities. Being
married and then having children takes a lot of time and attention. Most people need to go home
right after their works are done, because family is the core of everything. In common, people get
children at the age of 25.2, therefore, when a person is 30, his/her

Nikola Tesla Accomplishments
The world has had countless phenomenal scientists who have revolutionized some aspect of the
world. Many of these have been brilliant people driven by their love for the world or by their pure
curiosity or by their great intellect, but perhaps none are as intriguing or interesting as Nikola Tesla.
Fitting the stereotypical "mad scientist" persona, Tesla was one of history's most important inventors
and one of the most bizarre yet imaginative geniuses to ever exist. Born in 1856 in a town called
Smiljan located in the then–Austro–Hungarian Empire to a priest and an inventor of household
products, Tesla entered the world on peculiar circumstances: during a lightning storm. According to
legend, the midwife who was helping his mother with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He could not stand pearls and would refuse to women wearing them, yet he liked crystals. His deep
dislike for human hair caused him to only touch it "at the point of a revolver." He had a strange love
for the number 3 and all of its multiples and an excessive hygiene habits. His workaholic personality
led him to sleep an average of 2 to 3 hours a night, for the rest of his time was spent working on his
projects and ideas. He was constantly in debt but lived a lavish life until his death in the Waldorf
Astoria hotel in New York, which is where he was living under credit at the time. Near the end of his
life, he grew very fond of pigeons and would spend hours feeding them in the parks of New York.
Of his favorite pigeon, a white one with little spots of gray on its wings, he said, "I loved her as a
man loves a woman, and she loved me....As long as I had her, there was a purpose to my life."
Which also brings about another interesting fact: throughout his life, he was never involved in a
single relationship, for he believed women were distractions. He once said, "I do not think you can
name many great inventions that have been made by married men." But at the same time, he
believed women would eventually become intellectually superior to men and become the dominant
force in the world. He said, "the dormant faculties of her brain will be stimulated to an activity that
will be all the

Who Is Henry Ford?
Henry Ford was an American industrialist, he was the founder of the Ford Motor Company. He was
born on July 30, 1863 and died on April 7, 1947 due to a Cerebral Hemorrhage at age 83 in Fair
Lane. Cerebral Hemorrhage is also known as Brain Hemorrhage, it is an emergency condition in
which ruptured blood vessel causes bleeding inside the brain. Although Henry Ford did not invent
the automobile or the assembly line, he developed and manufactured the first automobile the many
middle class Americans could afford.
Earlier in life, Henry Ford was born on a farm in Greenfield Township, Michigan. His father was

However, the automobiles produced were of a lower quality and higher price than Ford wanted.
Ultimately, the company was not successful and was dissolved in January 1901.
But with the big help of C. Harold Wills, Ford designed, built, and he successfully raced a 26–
horsepower automobile in October 1901. It was a big success for him. With this success, Murphy
and other stockholders in the Detroit Automobile Company formed the Henry Ford Company on
November 30, 1901, with Ford as chief engineer. In 1902, Murphy brought in Henry M. Leland as a
consultant; Ford then left the company bearing his name. With Ford gone, Murphy renamed the
company the Cadillac Automobile Company. He teaming up with former racing cyclist Tom Cooper,
Ford also produced the 80+ horsepower racer which Barney Oldfield was to drive to victory in a
race in October 1902. Ford received the backing of an old acquaintance, Alexander Y. Malcomson, a
Detroit–area coal dealer. They formed a partnership, Ford and Malcomson, Ltd. to manufacture
automobiles. Ford then went to work designing an inexpensive automobile, and the duo leased a
factory and contracted with a machine shop and it was owned by John and Horace E. Dodge to
supply over $160,000 in parts. Sales were very slow, and a crisis arose when the Dodge brothers

electricity. In 1880, Charles Francis Brush and his Brush Electric Light Company installed carbon
arc lights along Broadway from 14th Street to 34th Street. Fed from a small generating station at
25th Street, the electric arc lights went into regular service on December 20, 1880. When the
Brooklyn Bridge opened on May 24, 1883, it was lighted by seventy arc lamps operated by another
competitor, the United States Illuminating Company. By 1886, some 1,500 arc lights had been
installed in Manhattan. In 1887, H.H. Westinghouse (a younger brother of George Westinghouse)
and his associates incorporated the Safety Electric Light and Power Company (later called the
United Electric Light and Power Company) to generate and distribute alternating current power in
New York. Other electric companies were created to serve nearby areas outside of Manhattan.
Across the East River, the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Brooklyn was incorporated in
1887 and was soon competing with Kings County Electric Light. By 1900, there were more than 30
companies generating and distributing electricity throughout the boroughs of New York City and in

The Monument Of The Statue Of Liberty
Entry 1. The Statue of Liberty
In 1865 when the American Civil War was close to the end, a French historian Edouard de
Laboulaye suggested that France should create and give to the United States a statue that would
symbolize the nation's success in building a viable democracy. However, because of the lock of
money, the work on the statue didn't start until the end of 1875. The creator of the statue is the
French sculptor Frederic–Auguste Bartholdi who created the statue out of sheets of hammered
copper and Alexandre–Gustave Eiffel, the creator of Eiffel Tower created the statue's steel frame.
The female form represented by the sculpture is based on Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty.

Not many people can say that he or she has truly changed the course of human history. Without the
efforts of Henry Ford, the entire world's demeanor would be heavily altered. The modern day
accessibility to transportation has shaped the lifestyle of the average human by allowing greater
access to life outside of his or her locality. During his time period, all of the things we find normal
were new and, to some, unbecoming. Henry Ford revolutionized American life in the nineteenth and

From a young age until the end of his life, Ford always had a fascination with machines. He was
fascinated to such a degree that his mother would give him old knitting needles and corest stays in
order to make tools (Curcio 5). Ford used these make shift tools for various projects he concocted.
His most prominent activity was fixing watches of his friends and family. At the young age of
thirteen, Ford's mother died from fatal complications of childbirth. This tragedy changed the course
of young Ford's life, considering his mother aided his fascinations and even taught him to read
before he enrolled in school (Curcio 5). Later that year, Ford had an encounter with a moving steam
engine that developed his fascination of machinery (CURCIO X). Both of these events led him to
move to Detroit when he was sixteen to pursue his passion. Ford's early influence in Detroit
provided him with the foundations for what would become an illustrious career. Since he was not a

Contemporary Education: A Need to Modify Educational Standards to Support the Learning
Requirements of Introverted and Extroverted Students Equally. Many societies have been trained to
listen and relate to the louder voice, and respond to dominant behavior demonstrated by an
individual; often named a leader. Humans possess the innate ability to respond to the output stimulus
of their environment, specifically other people; therefore, the greater the stimulus, the greater
reaction. Humans tend to associate dominant behaviors with authority figures or leaders. This model
of organized human behavior often leaves the quiet individuals in a crowd unheard; their thoughts

Contemporary educational systems derived from the late 19th century advocate learning practices
and environments that support the success of extroverted students, while disregarding the
significance of the independent learning proficiencies and methods of introverted students. Carl

its parameters that he labeled as "complexes" ("Carl Gustav Jung"). In 1916, Jung published his

Disabilites: Curses or Blessings?
Imagine living an entire, dreadful life where every item in every single glare was black and white.
Or every sprint a person takes leaves the individual breathless. Or picture an innocent, young child
who cannot talk or utilize other major abilities like most of the other kids can. These are just few of
the many possible scenarios anyone in the U.S., or even the rest of the world, can have. These
scenarios so to speak are disabilities. According to

Smith (2001) compared the influential power of the telegraph and more modern inventions, stating
that "The same phenomena is easily seen in the relatively recent proliferation of computers and
electronic communication technology" (p. 279). By the 1850s, predictions regarding the impact of
the new medium abounded, including statements about how it would make countries further
connected, how it would change politics and business and how it would make newspapers obsolete.
All of the same statements were later made in the 1990s, when people were astonished at the
potential of the Internet. Whatever expectations and predictions people had about the telegraph, they
were right about one thing: the telegraph would be consequential over the course of history. The
introduction of the telegraph had an influence in communications on a large global scale, and altered
both diplomacy and society. To sum up the impact the telegraph had on the financial realm of the
world, "While a British tramp freighter steamed from Calcutta to New York, a broker in London was

also instantaneously conveyed by the same network of communications" (Buckler, et al., 2006). The

John Rolfe 's Impact On America
Period 2: John Rolfe: John Rolfe influenced America in many ways both economically and socially.
Rolfe was known as the person who first successfully cultivated tobacco as a export crop and the
first to marry a native American, Pocahontas. He was born on May 6, 1585 by his parents john Rolfe

as harsh which grabbed the interest of the Virginia company even though Spain had declared a death

Tesla Vs. Edison: The War Of The Currents
Tesla Vs. Edison: The War of The Currents In the mid 1800s, two men were born who would later
impact the field of electricity in a powerful way. These two men were known as Thomas Edison and
Nikola Tesla. Tesla and Edison would eventually cross paths and cause what is known in history as
"The War of the Currents". Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 and is best known for
being an American inventor and businessman. Edison only attended three months of official
schooling before his teacher called him "addled". After this, his mother home schooled him. Thomas
Edison began his inventive career in Newark, New Jersey with the automatic repeater. In 1879,
Edison devised a commercially viable light bulb. Later that year, he patented a system for electricity
distribution. Then in 1880, he founded one of his fourteen companies, Edison Illuminating
Company. On September 4, 1882, Edison switched on his Pearl Street Station, which provided 110
volts of direct current to fifty–nine customers in lower Manhattan ("Thomas Edison"). Later on,
Edison founded General Electric. In 1884, Thomas Edison met Nikola Tesla. Nikola ... Show more

Tesla claims that Edison promised him what is equal to one million dollars today for his work. After
Tesla completed the work, he inquired about the money from Edison. Edison laughed it off and said
that Tesla did not understand American humor, and Tesla immediately resigned. Tesla founded the
Tesla Electric Light Company, where he founded his patents for the alternating current generators,
wires, transformers, and a 100 horsepower alternating current motor. Tesla sold all of his patents to
Westinghouse for a sum of one million dollars. Before marveling at the works of Tesla and the
alternating current and the works of Edison on the direct current, the story of the War of the Currents

Light Bulbs : The Invention That Changed The World
Light bulbs: The Invention that Changed the World In our contemporary American society, we tend
to take for granted the incredible inventions that surround us daily. From the inventions of cell
phones to hybrid cars, new innovations shape our daily lives. One important invention transformed
the American lifestyle and increased productivity: Light bulbs. In 1879, Thomas Alva Edison
developed an incandescent light bulb that used platinum filaments, which was later replaced in 1880
with a carbonized bamboo to increase burn time. Before the invention of incandescent light bulbs,
gas lighting was widely used and posed a severe threat to consumers. Majority lamps were not even
used in homes because of the many deaths and injuries that were reported due to dangerous gasses
found in the gas lamps. This prompted Edison to find a more affordable and safer lighting method.
The incandescent light bulbs had a significant economic impact which improved the productivity in
America for centuries. "Edison consciously modeled his plans for an electric lighting system on the
gas light technology. Instead of gas–making plants, he designed generators" (National Museum of
American History). Edison was not the first person to try to invent an incandescent light bulb,
however he designed a light bulb using carbon–based, high–resistance filament. The Edison
Innovation Foundation states, "It was not until several months after the patent was granted that
Edison and his team discovered that a

The Invention Of The Electric Light Bulb
Can you ever imagine a world without light bulb? Before light bulb was created, the night can only
be lit by the moon and stars. People working and traveling after sunset could only use candles or oil
lamps, which caused many inconveniences. Without any bright light, moving inside your own house
even seemed dangerous. However, things changed after the ambitious inventors brought their bright
idea, which was to light the world, to life. The invention and the commercialization of light bulb not
only changed the way people live, but also became a technological breakthrough for future energy
use in our daily lives. The electric light bulb has been called the most important invention ever since
the discovery of fire. Before eighteenth centuries, there are limited sources of light. The most
common artificial light sources for people to use were only candles, oil lamps, and fire. These light
sources not only emitted very weak lights, but also produced smokes and awful orders, which made
people impossible to work productively after sundown. Many houses at that time period were made
of timbers, therefore, having fire or open flame inside the house was hazardous. Once a house
caught on fire, the entire neighborhood would be in danger, since there was no running water inside
the buildings. Darkness was the epitome of evil. When the sun went down and darkness spread
through, the night became the realm of crime. The darkness worked as the perfect cover for thief,
murderer, and rapist.

Born in 1847, Thomas Alva Edison went from humble beginnings to becoming one of the greatest
businessmen and inventors of all time. Many people know about Edison because of his astounding
invention of the light bulb. It evolved the lifestyles of many humans living at the time by allowing
there to be accessible light whenever needed. However, Edison not only created the light bulb, but
ended up with over 1,000 patents for all of his inventions. As a child, he came from humble
beginnings, being the last of seven to be born into the family of Samuel and Nancy Edison. Thomas

appliances that helped with home and farm responsibilities, such as a mechanical eggbeater. Young
Nikola was schooled at home during his early years and later attended a school in Carlstadt, Croatia.
He soon developed advanced skills such as doing calculus integrals in his head. He very deeply
wanted to attend college and become an engineer, but his father wanted him to join the priesthood.

to improve the DC plants in New York. Months later, Tesla was finished. However, Edison
explained that the proposed $50,000 had been made in jest and said "When you become a full–
fledged American you will appreciate an American joke." Tesla resigned. During this time word had
begun to travel that "a foreigner of unusual talent was digging ditches to stay alive"(www.pbs.org).
Investors began to contact Tesla offering him money to improve the current method of arc lightning.
This was enough for the European to form the Tesla Electric Light Company. Tesla was able to
make the improvements he promised, but all the money made went to the investors and all he got
were stock certificates. Later, Mr. A.K. Brown of the Western Union Company invested in Tesla's
AC motor idea. A little ways down the street from Thomas Edison's office, Tesla established a small
laboratory where he began to work on his motor. The product turned out just exactly as he imagined
it while he was working for the telephone company, and soon after the AC generator became the
future of power and replaced Edison's DC plants. Tesla's patents for AC were so novel that they

Why Don 't Colleges Help With The Transition?
When students with learning disabilities decided to go to College, high school teachers and
administators are excited and ready to help that student transtition to College. Why don't Colleges
help with the transition? At TMCC they do their best to help, but at other Colleges they don't. Three
ways Colleges can help include making sure students understand their right, testing students
knowledge in knowing their academic strengths and ask students who took a Collge course to
expalin how they felt about it. For a student with a learning disability or really any disability they
should know their rights under Section 504. In high school, students are use to their parents fighting
for their rights. College is completly different, you have to fight for your own rights. Majority of the
time students with LD who have decided to go to college have not learned their rights. I was lucky
enough to know at least some of it. IN 2011 the U.S department of Education office for civil rights
stated " As a student with a disability, you need to be well informed about your rights and
responsiblites as well as the responisblites post secondary schools have towards you." The Section
504 Act states that it is agianst the law for adminstaors and teachers to discrimate those with
disabilites in the education setting. With knowing the rights one has under the section 504 law,
students can understand that if they feel like they are getting poor treatment to go and fight for their
rights. Throughout

How Did Nikola Tesla Changed America's History
There are some famous inventors that I think have changed America's history because of their

Elijah McCoy inventing the lubricator for steam engines.
Nikola Tesla was originally from Croatia but then moved to the United States in 1884. He there
created the first ever Air Conditioner motor in New York also where he met Thomas Edison his
future rival. One day Nikola Tesla was walking somewhere with sand and then his idea popped into
his head. He was thinking about a brushless Air Conditioner making the first sketches of its rotating
electromagnets in the sand. During 1887 and 1888 Nikola Tesla's work caught the attention of

becoming certified as a mechanical engineer. Although due to racial barriers Elijah McCoy was
unable to find work as an engineer in the United States. The skilled professional positions were not

McCoy accepted the position of a fireman and oiler for the Michigan Central Railroad. That was the
line of work that he developed his first major inventions. After studying the inefficiencies inherent
in the existing system of oiling axles, Elijah McCoy invented a lubricating cup that distributed oil
evenly over the engine's moving parts. Elijah McCoy continued to refine his devices, receiving
nearly 60 patents over the course of his life. Although most of his inventions dealt with lubrication
systems, he also developed designs for an ironing board, a lawn sprinkler, and other machines. In

John D. Rockefeller Vs. Thomas Edison
John D. Rockefeller Versus Thomas Edison In 1863, John D. Rockefeller (1839–1937) entered the
oil business in Cleveland, Ohio and became one of the world's wealthiest men by being the founder
of the Standard Oil Company. Standard Oil was a major source of income in the late 1800's, taking
up a large percentage of the United States refineries. It eventually became the largest oil refinery in
the world. But in 1911, U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the company was not legal due to violations
of laws. The Standard Oil Company was classified as a monopoly because it was the only supplier
of oil, and there were not any substitutes for this good. Just as Rockefeller created and founded the
Standard Oil Co., Thomas Edison created thousands inventions that have greatly helped the United
States and other countries all around the world. Edison (1847–1931) was a well known inventor and
businessman. One of the most well known inventions by Edison was the incandescent light bulb,
which produces light by heating a wire with electricity. He also created the movie camera,
phonograph and vote recorder which are just to name a few of the thousands of patents Edison had
on his inventions. Rockefeller was born in Richford, New York and went to high school at

Thomas Edison Contributions
Where would we be today without Thomas Alva Edison? How would our life be different? Thomas
Edison probably did more than any other man to influence the industrial civilization in the world we
live in today. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life in the United States. Let us
explore the life and contributions of Thomas Edison.
Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847, in Milan, Ohio in a humble brick house that still
stands today. Edison was pulled from public school at the age of twelve and taught by his mother at
home. At eleven years old, he had a chemical lab in the cellar of his parent's home, and at age twelve
took a job as a newspaper boy on a train. He had a chemical lab in a section of a baggage car and ran
a printing press where he made copies of the local newspaper. He also bought and sold fresh fruit
and vegetables along the train route. As you can tell, Thomas Edison showed a work ethic and
knowledge of business transactions that was unusual for a boy of his age. While working at the train
yard, Thomas Edison saved a little boy who had fallen in the path of a freight car. The boy's father
was the station agent. As a show of thankfulness to Edison, he taught Edison telegraphy. Edison had
been interested in electricity, but telegraphy made him even more interested, and that led him to his
studies and experiments that resulted in some of the world's greatest inventions.
In 1868 Edison filed his first patented invention, the electrical vote

What These Eyes Have Seen Analysis
The term, honor, transcends all languages including classical Latin and modern English with its
spelling and basic definition. Honor is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as high respect or
esteem. The concept of honor dates back to the peaceful samurai of feudal Japan and the chivalrous
knights of medieval Europe. A samurai or a knight would either honor or dishonor himself and his
family based on his actions in battle. Their motivation to be honorable focused more on the
individual and their family and less on their kingdom. Even though the branches of the United States
military each have their own code of honor, all branches believe that honor is about doing the right
thing personally and professionally in a manner so as not to disrespect ... Show more content on

Evan Thomas, author of "What These Eyes Have Seen", summarizes John McCain's naval
experience as a P.O.W. for over five years. "On his 23rd mission over North Vietnam, on Oct. 26,
1967, he was flying through heavy flak over Hanoi, dodging SAM missiles that looked "like flying
telephone poles," when he heard a "beep" signaling that a SAM had locked on to his plane." The
SAM blew off the right wing of his plane; McCain broke both arms and his right leg by ejecting
himself from the plane. McCain was brought to shore by a North Vietnamese guard who beat him
and took him to a prison camp in Hanoi where he would stay for five years. McCain could have
been released sooner because he was a legislator's son but he refused to be released before his
P.O.W comrades (Thomas); his decision shows that even in the toughest situations, honor means
doing the right thing by others. McCain demonstrated that making the choice to put others before
oneself is a righteous decision when striving to be an honorable man. However, my interpretation of
honor differs from the military's definition. My definition of honor means truthfulness in one's work,
determination through the hiccups of life, and selflessness in the eyes of others. In her article,
"College Cheating: Success Above Honor," Carla Rivera states that exams at Stanford aren't
proctored, and students are expected to police themselves and report students they see committing
violations. According to the article, Provost John Etchemendy from Stanford University reported
"recent allegations may involve as many as 20% of the students in one large, introductory course."
Cheating on exams exemplifies a lack of truthfulness in work. Another aspect of my definition of
honor is being able to persevere through

Thomas Edison Biography
Thomas Edison
I chose to research American inventor Thomas Alva Edison. Born on February 11, 1847 to middle–
class parents in Milan, Ohio, Thomas Edison was labeled as a unique and remarkable individual
with a curious passion for knowledge even as a child. Edison was taken out of school at age seven
when his teacher had run out of patience with the child's relentless questioning, constant need for
attention, and what would now most likely be considered ADHD. His beloved mother, Nancy, began
teaching Tom the "three R's and the Bible", and was convinced his unusual behavior was largely
because of his extraordinary intelligence (Guthridge 23). After his parents introduced him to the

While walking down the street one day, Edison noticed through a window that a brokerage firm
manager was in panic from what looked like a "critical stock ticker had broken down" (Israel 175).
Pushing his way through the crowd to the manager, Thomas took seconds to fix the unfamiliar
machine. His actions astonished the manager, who immediately gave Edison a high paying job in the
firm to do future maintenance on all machines. This incident became a major event in Edison's life
because he felt like he was "suddenly delivered out of abject poverty and into prosperity" (Israel
177).
It was during the next three years that Edison's line of major inventions really took off. In 1874, he
received enough money from selling an "electrical engineering firm that he opened his first
complete testing and development lab in New Jersey" (Israel 186). Edison developed the carbon
transmitter in 1876, which allowed the recently invented telephone to be "audible enough for
practical use" (Bellis). A year later, he developed the first phonograph. Shortly after, Edison was
mad at himself that Alexander Graham Bell had completed the telephone before him, because he
was close to finishing the product himself. However, Edison did develop a carbon transmitter which
innovated the telephone and created its massive expansion. Edison's disappointment in himself for

improvising the entire component in the light bulb so it can be more useful. Edison invented the
incandescent light bulb made up of carbonized plant fiber for the filament. Incandescent light bulb is
an electric light that produces light with the wire on the middle heated to a high temperature until it
can glow. The light bulb first created had too much energy and not suitable for home use. Edison
wanted to make a more efficient light bulb that is suitable for home use. At first, Edison uses a
platinum filament in the bulb. The light bulb work but it can only stand for about three–and–a–half
hours. Edison then planned to use the tungsten, but he couldn't do it because lack of tools needed.
One day when he was sitting in his lab, Edison thought of to use a carbon filament. The light bulb
works and it can stay longer, thirteen–and–a–half hours. Since that time, Edison kept on
experimenting and experimenting about the materials used for the filament. He then tried the

autobiography, Tesla's father, Milutin Tesla, has taught Tesla to read other people's minds and to
memorize easily. These factors were extremely beneficial throughout his whole life, assisting him
not only in his studies, but Tesla's work as

Life Is The Following Dream

  • 1. Life Is The Following Dream The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams. (Oprah Winfrey) Following dream is described as the biggest and hardest adventure, and if people work hard, they can reach the dream. But is it really the truth?People can take the first twenty years of life to chase dream, however, life if limited, people should do what they need to do at certain age. When people get to 30 years old, having steady jobs is more important than following dream. People always say that hard working makes people success and there are always examples of how some people reverse their destinies and become successful. In the book The Alchemist, Santiago, a young boy follows his passion and find his treasure. During Santiago's journey, he encounters difficulties, danger and challenges. But he never gives up, so as expected, he is successful. In reality, Harrison Ford did not start his career until his thirties. J.K. Rowling started writing novels at the age of 31, and now is the most famous female writer. And Ang Lee, who was a jobless house husband, but started being a director when he was 31. All the inspirational stories teach people that people need to have dream, it is never too late and if people work hard enough, he will reach his dream. However, these stories do not tell people how much they need to sacrifice and how little chance they become successful. People in their 30s should not follow dreams because there is no time. The normal retirement age in the United States is 65 years old, which means, after the year of 65, people cannot really do much. And normally, people start working after college which is about 22 to 24 years old. So there is only 43 years left. 43 years is almost half of a person's life, so there is no time for people to waste. And not only one's own time, as well as his family and friends. When people step in the age of 30, or even earlier, they start to form their own families. And start to take more responsibilities. Being married and then having children takes a lot of time and attention. Most people need to go home right after their works are done, because family is the core of everything. In common, people get children at the age of 25.2, therefore, when a person is 30, his/her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Nikola Tesla Accomplishments The world has had countless phenomenal scientists who have revolutionized some aspect of the world. Many of these have been brilliant people driven by their love for the world or by their pure curiosity or by their great intellect, but perhaps none are as intriguing or interesting as Nikola Tesla. Fitting the stereotypical "mad scientist" persona, Tesla was one of history's most important inventors and one of the most bizarre yet imaginative geniuses to ever exist. Born in 1856 in a town called Smiljan located in the then–Austro–Hungarian Empire to a priest and an inventor of household products, Tesla entered the world on peculiar circumstances: during a lightning storm. According to legend, the midwife who was helping his mother with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He could not stand pearls and would refuse to women wearing them, yet he liked crystals. His deep dislike for human hair caused him to only touch it "at the point of a revolver." He had a strange love for the number 3 and all of its multiples and an excessive hygiene habits. His workaholic personality led him to sleep an average of 2 to 3 hours a night, for the rest of his time was spent working on his projects and ideas. He was constantly in debt but lived a lavish life until his death in the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, which is where he was living under credit at the time. Near the end of his life, he grew very fond of pigeons and would spend hours feeding them in the parks of New York. Of his favorite pigeon, a white one with little spots of gray on its wings, he said, "I loved her as a man loves a woman, and she loved me....As long as I had her, there was a purpose to my life." Which also brings about another interesting fact: throughout his life, he was never involved in a single relationship, for he believed women were distractions. He once said, "I do not think you can name many great inventions that have been made by married men." But at the same time, he believed women would eventually become intellectually superior to men and become the dominant force in the world. He said, "the dormant faculties of her brain will be stimulated to an activity that will be all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the Brooklyn Bridge opened on May 24, 1883, it was lighted by seventy arc lamps operated by another competitor, the United States Illuminating Company. Light Bulbs : The Invention That Changed The World Light bulbs: The Invention that Changed the World In our contemporary American society, we tend to take for granted the incredible inventions that surround us daily. From the inventions of cell phones to hybrid cars, new innovations shape our daily lives. One important invention transformed the American lifestyle and increased productivity: Light bulbs. In 1879, Thomas Alva Edison developed an incandescent light bulb that used platinum filaments, which was later replaced in 1880 with a carbonized bamboo to increase burn time. Before the invention of incandescent light bulbs, gas lighting was widely used and posed a severe threat to consumers. Majority lamps were not even used in homes because of the many deaths and injuries that were reported due to dangerous gasses found in the gas lamps. This prompted Edison to find a more affordable and safer lighting method. The incandescent light bulbs had a significant economic impact which improved the productivity in America for centuries. "Edison consciously modeled his plans for an electric lighting system on the gas light technology. Instead of gas–making plants, he designed generators" (National Museum of American History). Edison was not the first person to try to invent an incandescent light bulb, however he designed a light bulb using carbon–based, high–resistance filament. People working and traveling after sunset could only use candles or oil lamps, which caused many inconveniences. Without any bright light, moving inside your own house even seemed dangerous. However, things changed after the ambitious inventors brought their bright idea, which was to light the world, to life. The invention and the commercialization of light bulb not only changed the way people live, but also became a technological breakthrough for future energy use in our daily lives. The electric light bulb has been called the most important invention ever since the discovery of fire. Before eighteenth centuries, there are limited sources of light. The most common artificial light sources for people to use were only candles, oil lamps, and fire. These light sources not only emitted very weak lights, but also produced smokes and awful orders, which made people impossible to work productively after sundown. Many houses at that time period were made of timbers, therefore, having fire or open flame inside the house was hazardous. Once a house caught on fire, the entire neighborhood would be in danger, since there was no running water inside the buildings. Darkness was the epitome of evil. When the sun went down and darkness spread through, the night became the realm of crime. The darkness worked as the perfect cover for thief, murderer, and rapist. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three ways Colleges can help include making sure students understand their right, testing students knowledge in knowing their academic strengths and ask students who took a Collge course to expalin how they felt about it. For a student with a learning disability or really any disability they should know their rights under Section 504. In high school, students are use to their parents fighting for their rights. The Standard Oil Company was classified as a monopoly because it was the only supplier of oil, and there were not any substitutes for this good. Just as Rockefeller created and founded the Standard Oil Co., Thomas Edison created thousands inventions that have greatly helped the United States and other countries all around the world. Edison (1847–1931) was a well known inventor and businessman. One of the most well known inventions by Edison was the incandescent light bulb, which produces light by heating a wire with electricity. He also created the movie camera, phonograph and vote recorder which are just to name a few of the thousands of patents Edison had on his inventions. Rockefeller was born in Richford, New York and went to high school at Cleveland Central High School, where he studied bookkeeping. He went on to working as an office clerk at the age of 16. Likewise, Edison began working at the young age of 12 where he sold newspapers. He eventually went on to publishing his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was the very first jukebox to come onto the market. The jukebox has cylinders to read the music and play it through the can spinning on a type of wire to give the right frequency to come out the speakers. There are a few songs to choose from, because the jukebox can only carry up to four to five cylinders. Audio advancing in the 1900's. Through the really early 1900's there was improvements on the jukebox cylinders and improvements on the phonograms: "1912 – Edison introduced celluloid blue Amberol cylinders that played for 4 minutes. When played with a diamond stylus, the new cylinder had low surface noise that resulted in higher acoustic quality than flat discs."(Audio Engineering Society," 2005). • 33. Thomas Edison Contributions Where would we be today without Thomas Alva Edison? How would our life be different? Thomas Edison probably did more than any other man to influence the industrial civilization in the world we live in today. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life in the United States. Let us explore the life and contributions of Thomas Edison. Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847, in Milan, Ohio in a humble brick house that still stands today. Edison was pulled from public school at the age of twelve and taught by his mother at home. At eleven years old, he had a chemical lab in the cellar of his parent's home, and at age twelve took a job as a newspaper boy on a train. He had a chemical lab in a section of a baggage car and ran a printing press where he made copies of the local newspaper. He also bought and sold fresh fruit and vegetables along the train route. As you can tell, Thomas Edison showed a work ethic and knowledge of business transactions that was unusual for a boy of his age. While working at the train yard, Thomas Edison saved a little boy who had fallen in the path of a freight car. The boy's father was the station agent. As a show of thankfulness to Edison, he taught Edison telegraphy. Edison had been interested in electricity, but telegraphy made him even more interested, and that led him to his studies and experiments that resulted in some of the world's greatest inventions. In 1868 Edison filed his first patented invention, the electrical vote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. College Admissions Essay: My Life In New Jersey I was raised in Edison township, New Jersey; a rural area formerly known as Raritan township. This was until the act of the New Jersey Legislature came into motion around the late 1800's. The act altered the name from Raritan to Edison in honor of Thomas Edison; because his main laboratory was located at a park now called Menlo park. In 2006 Edison was ranked second on the top of "best places to live "magazine articles. I was fortunate enough that all five of my cousins lived within a 20–mile radius of me, this really helped us to become closer. My family supported me a lot throughout my running career. During my senior year, I was undefeated in the state of New Jersey and third in the nation. But even prior to that, my family made sure they attended as many events of mine as possible. • 35. What These Eyes Have Seen Analysis The term, honor, transcends all languages including classical Latin and modern English with its spelling and basic definition. Honor is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as high respect or esteem. The concept of honor dates back to the peaceful samurai of feudal Japan and the chivalrous knights of medieval Europe. A samurai or a knight would either honor or dishonor himself and his family based on his actions in battle. Their motivation to be honorable focused more on the individual and their family and less on their kingdom. Even though the branches of the United States military each have their own code of honor, all branches believe that honor is about doing the right thing personally and professionally in a manner so as not to disrespect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evan Thomas, author of "What These Eyes Have Seen", summarizes John McCain's naval experience as a P.O.W. for over five years. "On his 23rd mission over North Vietnam, on Oct. 26, 1967, he was flying through heavy flak over Hanoi, dodging SAM missiles that looked "like flying telephone poles," when he heard a "beep" signaling that a SAM had locked on to his plane." The SAM blew off the right wing of his plane; McCain broke both arms and his right leg by ejecting himself from the plane. McCain was brought to shore by a North Vietnamese guard who beat him and took him to a prison camp in Hanoi where he would stay for five years. McCain could have been released sooner because he was a legislator's son but he refused to be released before his P.O.W comrades (Thomas); his decision shows that even in the toughest situations, honor means doing the right thing by others. McCain demonstrated that making the choice to put others before oneself is a righteous decision when striving to be an honorable man. However, my interpretation of honor differs from the military's definition. My definition of honor means truthfulness in one's work, determination through the hiccups of life, and selflessness in the eyes of others. In her article, "College Cheating: Success Above Honor," Carla Rivera states that exams at Stanford aren't proctored, and students are expected to police themselves and report students they see committing violations. According to the article, Provost John Etchemendy from Stanford University reported "recent allegations may involve as many as 20% of the students in one large, introductory course." Cheating on exams exemplifies a lack of truthfulness in work. Another aspect of my definition of honor is being able to persevere through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Thomas Edison Biography Thomas Edison I chose to research American inventor Thomas Alva Edison. Born on February 11, 1847 to middle– class parents in Milan, Ohio, Thomas Edison was labeled as a unique and remarkable individual with a curious passion for knowledge even as a child. Edison was taken out of school at age seven when his teacher had run out of patience with the child's relentless questioning, constant need for attention, and what would now most likely be considered ADHD. His beloved mother, Nancy, began teaching Tom the "three R's and the Bible", and was convinced his unusual behavior was largely because of his extraordinary intelligence (Guthridge 23). After his parents introduced him to the multiple resources of their local library, Thomas began to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While walking down the street one day, Edison noticed through a window that a brokerage firm manager was in panic from what looked like a "critical stock ticker had broken down" (Israel 175). Pushing his way through the crowd to the manager, Thomas took seconds to fix the unfamiliar machine. His actions astonished the manager, who immediately gave Edison a high paying job in the firm to do future maintenance on all machines. This incident became a major event in Edison's life because he felt like he was "suddenly delivered out of abject poverty and into prosperity" (Israel 177). It was during the next three years that Edison's line of major inventions really took off. In 1874, he received enough money from selling an "electrical engineering firm that he opened his first complete testing and development lab in New Jersey" (Israel 186). Edison developed the carbon transmitter in 1876, which allowed the recently invented telephone to be "audible enough for practical use" (Bellis). A year later, he developed the first phonograph. Shortly after, Edison was mad at himself that Alexander Graham Bell had completed the telephone before him, because he was close to finishing the product himself. However, Edison did develop a carbon transmitter which innovated the telephone and created its massive expansion. Edison's disappointment in himself for being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edison invented the incandescent light bulb made up of carbonized plant fiber for the filament. Incandescent light bulb is an electric light that produces light with the wire on the middle heated to a high temperature until it can glow. The light bulb first created had too much energy and not suitable for home use. Edison wanted to make a more efficient light bulb that is suitable for home use. At first, Edison uses a platinum filament in the bulb. The light bulb work but it can only stand for about three–and–a–half hours. Edison then planned to use the tungsten, but he couldn't do it because lack of tools needed. One day when he was sitting in his lab, Edison thought of to use a carbon filament. The light bulb works and it can stay longer, thirteen–and–a–half hours. Since that time, Edison kept on experimenting and experimenting about the materials used for the filament. He then tried the filament with the carbonized plant fiber as the filament. As experiment goes by, the amount of time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
