• The system’s target group is college students who live in the dorms
at Yonsei International Campus (YIC). Among them the main target
is students who want to meet new friends that share the same
hobbies.

• Supported by the Yonsei Residential College, Guess Who? Is a
location-based smartphone app that pairs up YIC students based
on common interests. First, students will download the app and
register as users by entering their Yonsei portal ID and password.
Then they will take a survey about their basic information (name,
gender, age, RC/non-RC, hobbies). After submitting, students will
be paired up based on common interests, and they will start a
game to try and find out their partner’s identity.

• Each week the user and their partner will be given missions based
on different locations in Songdo, ranging from YIC to Haekyung
and the public parks. The user will go around each place taking
photos of the places they visit and will send them to their partner.
They will also receive photos from their partner that are cut in half
and will guess the places in the photos. They can also ask the app
map for directional hints to the place. If they visit the correct place,
the GPS will send the second half of the photo so the user can see
the full picture and the place will be recorded on the map.

• Each time the user finds their partner’s photo before their partner
does, they will receive one point. The player with the most points at
the end of the week will be rewarded with a hint about their
partner’s identity. Based on these hints, the user will guess their
partner’s name. If they guess incorrectly, they can keep playing the
game to gather more hints. If they guess correctly, they win the
game and receive their partner’s contact as well as a reward they
can use with their partner, such as movie tickets. The user can then
contact their partner to set up a date and enjoy their reward
together, becoming closer friends as a result.

• What problems will the system solve?
• When students first enter college, most of them become closest to
other students in the same major and have little chances to meet
other people. Therefore, it can be hard to find other friends with the
same interests that they can hang out with. Guess Who? can
provide the chance for students to meet new friends by connecting
them through its game. It can also provide a period when students
can get to know each other indirectly before actually meeting,
which can make the start of the friendship less awkward.

• What is the design vision and emotional impact goals?
• Besides making friends, another goal of Guess Who? is to create a
fun detective-like experience for YIC students. Elements like
physically tracking down places in the partner’s photos and
guessing their partner’s name can add excitement to the game.
Also, the app design is meant to be appealing to college students,
especially freshmen who are the majority of YIC students. Bright
colors and a modern flat UI design were used for this purpose.
Through the design vision and emotional impact, Guess Who? can
provide a unique and entertaining way of making friends.
