4. I have worked in manufacturing for over 20 years. I have held positions such as
manager, engineer, technician, machinist, quality control inspector, and
shipping/receiving clerk. I have managed salaried and hourly employees, and I know
how to distribute company resources. As an engineer, I have created protocols, and I
have put them in place for employees to follow when they run into different situations.
In my quality position, I learned about customer requirements. Working in the shop as
a machinist and a shipping/receiving clerk, I understand how shop floor employees
think and what motivates them. I understand how manufacturing works, and I know
how to put systems in place to make a profitable business.
My experience and what I bring to the table.
10. This is my proposal.
With my experience and knowledge of manufacturing, I have put a plan together to bring the Ford Motor Company out of bankruptcy.
I plan to make Ford the most profitable automotive manufacturer in the world.
1. We need to take power away from the United Auto Workers' (UAW) union.
There was a day when the union served a purpose. In the 1930s, the (UAW) protected the workers, but now the union hinders
progress. I have worked for companies with unions and companies without unions. Because of the union, automobile prices are sky-
high. It handcuffs management, and it also handcuffs the workers. For instance, managers are not allowed to touch the machinery
because of union rules. Likewise, if an employee is working in their area and their light bulb goes out they can not change it even if it
is an easy change. The worker would have to wait for an electrician or another worker who is certified to change it.
2. With the union out of the way, employees could do things like changing light bulbs and sweeping up trash in their areas without
getting in trouble.
3. Qualified employees could be trained to run multiple machines. Often in automotive manufacturing facilities, employees are just
running one machine when some machines are running for eight or more hours, leaving the employee nothing to do.
4. With the union out of the way, managers with shop floor experience can run machines or train people to run a machine if someone
does not show up to work.
11. Ford is a great company. Henry Ford built this company from nothing.
He would be extremely disappointed with the state of the company
today. Our job is to turn this situation around and right the ship for the
company to grow to new heights. With all of the resources we have
here at Ford, we can make things right. It is not only our job to do it,
but we must do it for our country.
