2. SIMPLE COVERS Magazines such as Q, offer special edition covers to subscribers which feature a more basic layout so the cover is much more focused on the picture. ALT. uses a very basic cover design to attract the target audience because the results gathered from a survey for the target audience showed that a dominant picture on the cover is a preferred feature of their favorite magazines. ALT. has a simple layout so that the focus is on the picture but also there is information about inside of the magazine such as featured bands in order to attract non subscribers.
3. LOTS OF CONTENT The contents page is right at the beginning of the magazine and it displays all of the content available in the magazine clearly. This attracts people to buy the magazine because they can easily pick it up in a shop and see all the things featured in the magazine. This puts ALT. at an advantage over magazines like NME which do not have a contents that stands out or is easy to find. Also, at the top there is a personal letter which directly addresses the reader which makes them feel involved and catered for so they will want to buy the magazine.
4. INTERVIEWS WITH UP AND COMING BANDS The survey also showed that the target audience wants to know about their favourite bands and want to see interviews, so ALT. offers lots of quality interviews with up and coming bands and also exclusive pictures. Having a main feature double page spread makes the audience want to buy the magazine because they feel like they are getting their moneys worth.
