ANALYZE THE LEARNER
General: 4th grade, 18 students (9 girls, 9 boys), 7 Caucasian, 4
African American, 4 Latino, 3 Asian.
Learning Competencies: Students should learn basic concepts of
the 5 Food Groups.
Learning Styles: Most of the students are visual and physical
learners while some are auditory.
OBJECTIVE
Students will identify and demonstrate knowledge of the 5 Food
Groups, through the use of videos, games, readings, and creating
logs by the end of the week with 100% accuracy.
DAY BY DAY
1 – Introduction and Class Discussion of the Food Groups.
2 – Watch the Food Groups Are Rockin Tonight Read-Along, Sing Along
Video and have students play the 5 food groups matching card game in
small groups.
3 – Read the article Understanding The Key Messages Of the Five Food
Groups and have students write a half page response explaining what they
read.
4- Play Red Light Green Light and Beanbag Toss.
5- Students will create their own food diary that includes what they eat for
breakfast, lunch, and dinner and how many servings of each of the 5 food
groups per day.
USE OF TECHNOLOGY
• Smartboard and computer for the video and make sure beforehand that
both are working properly.
• Make sure to have the matching cards game ready for students after the
video.
• Make sure to have the article ready for students at the beginning of
class.
• Prepare the room to play Red Light Green Light and Beanbag Toss.
• Make sure to have the paper ready at the beginning of class for students
to make their health logs.
