1) Student absenteeism is a major concern in U.S. schools, with approximately 10% of students missing 10% or more of school days each year. 2) Missing just 10% of the school year can lead to academic trouble and prevent students from graduating. In Michigan, absenteeism rates are as high as 29% for black students. 3) Students who are frequently absent, even just a couple days a month, miss opportunities to learn key skills and are at risk for poor academic performance, low self-esteem, depression, and dropping out of high school.
